Albums worthy of receiving their own TV Tropes article?

The list of music albums with their own article page on TV Tropes is growing. :)

I feel that the most important, famous and groundbreaking music albums that often pop up in "Best Albums of All Time" lists should all receive their own separate page.

I already added a lot (and I'm planning on creating several more), but there are some albums that I don't know enough about or not particularly interested in. Since I feel that a passionate review is better than a lackluster one I would rather let real fans of these artists, genres and/or albums create them.

Here they are. I redlighted them so that we can immediately see which ones have been created since this topic was launched. Raid your (parents') album collection and give these ones another spin for analysis while creating the article. Take your pick, and many thanks beforehand!

(NOTE: Since this thread started several albums have been added. To make more clear which albums are already there and which aren't I made a division)

Requested albums added since this thread started

Albums still under request

Personally I think only strongly defined concept albums have anything cohesive enough to warrant one; thus why most are rock operas and the like. As for P-Funk, they have a page as George Clinton.

A strong concept can help, but it's not necessary. Of course being well known and influential isn't really necessary, either. I wrote articles for Queen Of The Wave and runforyerlife—only one of them has a real concept, and I'm pretty sure I'm the only person on the wiki who gives a rip about either.

I didn't write any of that.

Concept albums will always be the easiest ones to write tropes for, since they have a theme or a story. Albums that aren't part of a huge concept or even lack lyrics might seem like a challenge, but we already have a bunch of these to prove that it's not impossible. Beergood managed to create an entire page full with tropes around the landmark jazz album Bitches Brew. I followed it up with Kind of Blue and Sketches of Spain.

It's not that hard. All you have to look for are tropes found in the song lyrics on that particular album, or the backstory circumstances in which the albums were recorded. The album pages also allow for more in-depth tropes for stuff that is too detailed to put in the article about the respective artists themselves. (Yes, including Parliament and Funkadelic)

Let's be honest here. Countless music magazines, books and documentaries have been devoted to talking about themes, lyrics and recording circumstances of legendary music albums. If they can find the words, we sure can too! cool

I say none. Musicians should get pages, not their work.

[up] Sorry, Klark, but I have to respectfully disagree with you on this.

About the list: Only one Elvis Costello album? This Year's Model, Armed Forces and Imperial Bedroom should definitely have articles, and that's just for starters. And The Rolling Stones' Aftermath and Beggars Banquet should be added to the list as well.

One more thing: Since there might be a lot of Self-Titled Albums added to the wiki, maybe we should have an Album/ namespace to distinguish them from the artists.

@ Quag 15: Coincidentally I created pages for two Björk albums, earlier today Post and Debut. That was the reason she wasn't listed. Some albums/artists I planned to do myself, but feel free to create one for Homogenic and Vespertine if you want. Kraftwerk was also on my list, but again, feel free to create one your own.

@ Mark Lungo: I don't know that much about Elvis Costello. And I agree there should be more Rolling Stones albums.

Well, I guess I should listen to Mr. Tambourine Man a couple dozen more times and help on its trope page.

[up][up]Thanks. They seem to be good pages.[tup] I'm only gonna do a couple of changes (namely, the songs tend to be put like "this" instead of like this around here).

When I get some time and finish other articles I'm working on, I'll get to them.

No, we don't have an entry for Desperado by The Eagles yet, nor do we have one for Hotel California.

All pretty good choices here. Also, I feel that In The Court Of The Crimson King, all Pink Floyd albums between Dark Side Of The Moon and The Wall, the key Yes records of the 70s (The Yes Album, Fragile and Tales From Topographic Oceans). Every Music/{[Opeth}} record from Still Life to Ghost Reveries and possibly beyond.

Also, to avoid anyone thinking I'm solely a Prog nerd, Never Mind The Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols, London Calling and Sandinista! need album pages IMO. Also, Pornography and Disintegration by The Cure at the very least.

Lastly, The Real Thing and Angel Dust, Nothing's Shocking and Ritual De Lo Habitual, Badmotorfinger and Superunknown, Dirt and possibly Ten, Vs. and Vitalogy by Pearl Jam.

Both film directors and movies can have pages here so I think it's perfectly fine for albums to have pages too, just like the musicians who made them.

Marquee Moon by Television really deserves a good article. Of course, Television themselves need more love...

As much as I like the support I've got the impression that my original intention isn't entirely clear to some. Suggesting new entries for albums that should get their own article is certainly welcome, but I actually made the list so that tropers who are bigger fans of those artists could create a page for these specific albums. cool

By the way, since I started this thread the following albums now have their own page:

Many thanks to the tropers who made these great additions possible! smile

@ Meta Four: Agreed whole-heartedly. Their page is woefully short. A band as influential as them needs a much longer page (Joy Division have a long one, for example, and I'd argue that Television wound up being as important as they did)... sad

For their influence on everything that has to do with any kind of teenage rock, Hybrid Theory and Meteora by Linkin Park should be included. If not Meteora, then at least Hybrid Theory.

@ Patachou - Your link for Joni Mitchell's "Blue" redirects to a Birthday Massacre music video. I'm not good in editing. Can someone correct it?

@ Tropeslave. Joni Mitchell link is fixed now. Thanks.

@ sharkcrap11: We've already had pages for Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols and London Calling for ages. The other albums you listed sound good and you appear to be a big fan. Could you create articles for them?

@ Quag15: I've added pages for Trans-Europe Express, The Man-Machine and Autobahn by Kraftwerk.

@ 0dd1: Thanks for creating the Albums list at the time.

@ Trust Ben and Willbyr: Thanks for creating pages for some albums of my list: Appetite for Destruction, Use Your Illusion and Here Come the Warm Jets.

@ Meta Four and Odd1: Just created a page for Marquee Moon by Television.
