  • 419 Scam: Tachibana receives an email message from an alleged high-ranking Nigerian official who promises him to double the amount of the money he lent to them; obviously, this turns out to be a scam, and Akamatsu and other people also fell for it. It is revealed that Hiiragi manipulated Tachibana, Akamatsu and others into getting scammed by sending them the scammer's email during their high school reunion as revenge for bullying him and not helping him from being bullied, respectively.
  • A-Cup Angst: Yuri laments not being as well-endowed as her stepmother Karin and half-sister Yuzuriha.
  • Abandoned Pet in a Box: Kuroki and his parents Yuri and Katsura find a box with a puppy in front of their house. It's later revealed that Akane left it at their house because she couldn't keep it at her apartment.
  • Abuse Mistake:
    • Tokusa accidentally hits Karin's face during a workout, causing her to get nosebleed. However, when the couple arrive at the hospital, a doctor, Tsutsuji, mistakes Tokusa for being a Domestic Abuser and proceeds to call the police on him. Fortunately, the misunderstanding gets cleared up when Karin is forced to explain to Tsutsuji and the police that she tried to kiss Tokusa before he accidentally hit her.
    • Azami crawls into Akamatsu's room at the internet cafe, but she accidentally hits her own head on his desk. When the employee of the cafe named Karin goes to check them, she completely misunderstood what happened and proceeds to call the police on Akamatsu for supposedly hitting her.
    • Karin tries to save Kuroki from Tsutsuji because she thinks he is a victim of Domestic Abuse because of a photo of him having scars on his face. However, the "scars" turn out to be halloween makeup set up by Tsutsuji to impress his friends. However, after the misunderstanding with Karin was cleared, Yuzuriha messages Tsutsuji and expresses interest in the photo and praises her because she enjoys seeing children physically suffer, exposing herself as an Abusive Mom to her son, Hiiragi. Terrified by Yuzuriha's true nature, Tsutsuji calls Karin to rescue him from Yuzuriha.
  • Academia Elitism:
    • Tachibana and his wife Azami look down on Tachibana's younger brother Tokusa for not going to college. When Tokusa starts his own company, they insist that he can't do it because he's a construction worker and only went to high school. When Tachibana decides to build his house on unstable land, Tokusa warns him not to do it. Despite the fact that Tokusa is a professional foundation builder, Tachibana scoffs at his warning simply because Tokusa is only a high school graduate. Just as Tokusa predicted, the house ends up destroyed due to an earthquake.
    • Hiiragi is a law student who attends a prestigious college, which he loves to brag about. He has a part-time job at a bar, which he slacks off at, under the excuse that an educated man like him isn't suited to doing physical labor and is more suited to intellectual tasks. When a group of Yakuza come into the bar, Hiiragi insults them. When they are about to beat him, he says that they'll regret beating him because he goes to Etra City Law School, and only manages to avoid a beating because the their superior calls them off. He ends up getting fired for his antics, and tries to get revenge by taking a bottle while ranting that his former coworkers and boss are "peasants" who should bow to him because he's an "elite at Etra Uni." Unfortunately for Hiiragi, he gets stopped by the Yakuza from before and gets beaten.
  • Accidental Hero: When Hiiragi walks into a convenience store with the intention of robbing it, Tokusa and Tachibana are so exhausted from getting rid of the roaches in the store, that they don't even notice the knife he's holding. They manage to scare him away accidentally by talking about how they took care of the roaches, with Hiiragi thinking they're talking about a person. Only then, do they notice the knife he left behind when Karin points it out.
  • Accidental Public Confession: When Azami calls out Akane and Yuzuriha for making false molestation charges, Akane responds by saying their attempt failed, then realizes that the rest of the class heard what she just said.
    Yuzuriha: Akane, you idiot!!
  • Accomplice by Inaction: Tachibana witnesses his son's bully being beaten up by someone else, however, he decides to not save him because he thinks it's a fitting punishment for him for bullying his son.
  • Adaptation Name Change: A variation; some episodes treat the character's names as their surnames, which results in scenarios where the male character's wives are referred to as Mrs. [name].
  • Adoption Diss: After Tsutsuji's parents died in a car accident, she was taken by her uncle Hiiragi and aunt Azami, however, they neglect her in favor of their son. Tsutsuji's suffering ends when her other uncle Kuroki decides to take her in after she told him about the abuses she went through.
  • Age-Gap Romance:
    • One episode features Karin being married to Katsura, who is significantly older than her.
    • Another episode features Karin as a high school teacher and Hiiragi as one of her students. They get married and have two kids by the end.
  • Age Lift: The characters' ages vary wildly from one story to the next, ranging from children to elders, depending on what role they're playing. Notably, Azami is the character whose age is the most consistent, with her being portrayed as an older woman in most of her appearances. This can be funny in the English dub since her usual voice actress gives her a default old woman voice and doesn't bother to change it in the rare cases she appears as someone younger.
  • Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: Several characters have done stupid things while drunk.
    • Akane flying sidekicks Hiiragi before beating up the other guys with her boyfriend Tachibana having to restrain her. Later on, she chases after Tokusa's friend group and manages to damage Kuroki's car.
    • Following an argument with his parents, Tachibana grabs a step-ladder so that he can climb into his friend Tokusa's room and sleep there. But because he was so drunk, he ended up climbing up to his roof and sleeping there instead.
    • After getting dumped by Hiiragi, Karin gets wasted with Yuzuriha. When Yuzuriha's younger brother walks into the room to see what's going on, Karin drunkenly hugs him and begs him to marry her.
    • After getting drunk with her friends, Yuzuriha tries to drink wine from her butt.
    • An example which unlike the previous ones is not Played for Laughs where a drunk Akamatsu tries to kick a pregnant Tsutsuji on the train.
    • An Inverted case where Akamatsu overhears and joins in on Karin's argument with Azami over stolen tickets. Despite being drunk, he somehow manages to be the reasonable one in the situation in contrast to Azami who is completely sober but refuses to take responsibility for her actions.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Akane starts liking delinquent-looking men because they saved her from a creep.
  • Always Identical Twins:
    • In this episode, Yuri appears as a pair of identical twins.
    • Averted in this episode as Akane and Yuzuriha are depicted as fraternal twins instead of identical twins.
  • Amnesiac Lover: Kuroki loses his memories relating to his wife, Yuri, due to being overworked for a year. Yuri tries to help Kuroki regain those lost memories, which rekindles their romance.
  • Amicable Exes: Hiiragi and Yuzuriha divorced when their children were only a year old. When both of them visit Akamatsu in the hospital, it's shown that they are still on good terms with each other.
  • Anachronism Stew: Occasionally there will be episodes set in the past but several characters will be using modern-day appliances.
    • The first section of this episode takes place ten years before the present day but Akamatsu and his younger brother Hiiragi are seen playing with Nintendo Switches which wouldn't be released until 2017.
    • Based on Tokusa's comments about him loving Dragon Quest as a kid but quitting after the third game, the majority of this episode takes place in either the late 80's or early 90's. However, Akane can be seen taking a picture of an explosion with a modern-day smart phone rather than a more time appropriate flip phone or Polaroid camera.
  • …And That Little Girl Was Me: Inverted in this story. Karin narrates the story about a social worker suspecting the motive of a couple adopting a girl, but she didn't realize that the little girl was her, until Yuri spells it out.
  • And There Was Much Rejoicing:
    • When Azami quits her job because of an incident during a wedding day and her boss scolding her for it, everyone in the workplace sighs in relief that she is finally gone.
    • After everyone in the party puts Akane in her place by calling her out of her ungratefulness toward Katsura for saving her life from drowning as well as her boyfriend breaking up with her for her attitude, she leaves the party in anger. The party went quiet for a moment before erupting into cheers.
  • Animal Wrongs Group: Azami thinks people chaining their dog outside their house is animal abuse. She later tries to free the dogs from their leash because she felt bad for them; however, the dogs immediately start chasing Azami.
  • Animated Actors: Every now and then it's suggested that this is what's going on behind the scenes, mainly in the anniversary episodes, but that doesn't really explain the child versions of the characters who sometimes appear. Nor the fact that occasionally multiple versions of the same characters at different ages will appear in the same story.
  • April Fools' Plot:
    • A video has Tachibana and Akamatsu playing a prank on April 1st by spreading rumors that a magazine will be limited edition and very valuable. They didn't bother to retract the rumor and got into a lot of trouble.
    • Azami attempts to use April Fool's Day as an excuse to get revenge against Akane for telling on her to their boss for taking expired food home with her despite it being against the rules of the convenience store they worked for. Her "prank" involved framing her for stealing money from the manager by slipping it into her bag and then revealing that she was the one who'd done so after he yelled at Akane and made her cry. Naturally, no one else thought this was a very good prank.
  • Arranged Marriage:
    • Yuri is arranged to get married with Akamatsu, who is 41-years old due to her family owing his family a favor. Yuri decides to become fat to make Akamatsu reject her for her appearance.
    • Azami arranges her niece Yuzuriha, who is 15-years old to get married with a 39-years old Tokusa so she can get a new way to leech off of money from them. Obviously, the marriage didn't go through as Tokusa opted to help Yuzuriha and her mother to escape from Azami's selfishness.
  • Aroused by Idiocy: Akamatsu cheats on and later divorces Karin to be with Akane because Karin isn't reliant on him in regards to household tasks, while Akane is. Karma soon bites him when Akane's wasteful spending and inability to do household chores cause him to regret his decision, and he's unable to divorce Akane without having to pay a huge settlement fee to Karin.
  • Aroused by Their Voice: While Katsura and Tsutsuji were gathering evidence of Tsutsuji's husband's affair, Katsura become infatuated with Yuri's voice from a recording of her, Karin, and Akane's conversation and asks her out after the affair is settled. More specifically, it wasn't just Yuri's voice but her snapping and verbally tearing Akane to shreds after the affair was discovered and Akane tried to blame her and Karin for not trying harder to stop her that made him fall for her.
  • Asshole Victim: While Yuzuriha does have the highest kill count out of all the characters, several of her victims weren't exactly good people.
    • Yuzuriha initially mistakes Kuroki for her abusive ex-boyfriend though fortunately she realizes that he isn't him. However, the ex eventually shows up at her lodge and she ends up killing him.
    • In this episode, Yuzuriha took on Akane's identitiy in order to get away from her abusive husband Hiiragi. Hiiragi eventually found her though as he had been stalking her and Yuzuriha killed him in self-defense.
    • For an example that doesn't involve murder, Yuzuriha stole millions of yen from her mother Azami and fled overseas after getting fed up with her unsympathetic attitude. Though Yuri acknowledges that she committed grand theft, no one particularly cares since Azami was such a colossal Jerkass and everyone grew up with her blaming them for every bad thing that ever happened to them.
    • Hiiragi gets beaten up by Tachibana for stealing his girlfriend Yuzuriha from him, except Hiiragi was told that Tachibana was abusing her and wanted to protect her from him. Even so, he put Akane into a situation where she'd be alone with a man he believed to be a domestic abuser and ended up dumping her to get back together with Yuzuriha anyway, so the Misplaced Retribution he receives doesn't invite much sympathy for him.
  • Attempted Homewrecker:
    • Akane is a Gold Digger who pursues Tokusa, who's dating Tsutsuji, under the assumption that Tokusa is rich. In order to get Tokusa to dump Tsutsuji, Akane sends what she thinks is evidence that Tsutsuji is a pornstar. However her plan backfires because Tokusa knows the pornstar and Tsutsuji are Identical Strangers due to research. To top it off, Tokusa isn't even rich, Akane just thinks he is due to a conversation she overheard.
    • Yuzuriha is Kuroki 's crazy ex-girlfriend who decides to crash his wedding. In order to try and steal him away, she shows up heavily pregnant and claims the baby is his in order to baby trap him. She's not actually pregnant, she just stuck a watermelon down her dress.
    • Akane is the daughter of Kuroki's manager Akamatsu, who becomes obsessed with him after meeting him at a company barbecue. Undeterred by the fact that he's already dating Karin, she tries everything from trying to convince him to cheat on Karin, lying about a pregnancy, getting her mother to try and bribe Karin to break up with Kuroki, and then finally one last ditch attempt to convince Kuroki to marry her. Poor Akamatsu gets transferred to the countryside to keep his crazy family away from Kuroki, despite being apologetic for their entitled attitudes.
  • Attempted Rape:
    • In this chapter, Yuri was about to be sexually assaulted by the loan shark Akamatsu to pay her mother's debts. However, Karin steps in and kicks him before he could actually harm Yuri.
    • Akane attempts to get a drunk Katsura to a love hotel under the guise of helping him. Fortunately, he manages to escape from her.
    • Hiiragi abducts Karin from her wedding and tries to force her to kiss him in front of a makeshift altar, with the scene framed to look like he intended to do worse (and probably would have had Kuroki not arrived sooner.) Unlike the previous examples, Hiiragi's actions are motivated moreso by delusional insanity rather than pure lust, as he's convinced that Karin still loves him and they're just acting out her fantasy.
    • Two men stop Akane on the street and attempt to abduct her with obviously sexual intentions.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: Kuroki starts going to work while crossdressing as Tsutsuji so that his coworker Akamatsu wouldn't hesitate to warn him if he messed up (Kuroki was the manager's nephew) and also because he genuinely enjoys doing so. Akamatsu does indeed find "Tsutsuji" very attractive.
  • Awful Truth:
    • Akamatsu discovered that his mother, Akane, wasn't the great mother he believed she was.
    • Kuroki soon finds out that his best friend, Hiiragi, wasn't as good of a person, let alone friend, as he believed. As well as his own hatred of him.
    • Akane discovers that the reason her mother Yuzuriha was so distant towards her was because her grandparents brainwashed Akane into spewing death threats at her when she was a little girl, and Yuzuriha never got over it.

     B
  • Babies Ever After: Too many stories end this way to cite any specific examples.
  • The Baby Trap:
    • Akamatsu falls into this while he was cheating on his fiancée, Yuri, with a hostess, Akane, with the latter saying she was pregnant with his baby, forcing him to marry her instead.
    • Yuzuriha drugs Tokusa inside her house in an attempt to make him think that he impregnated her. In reality, she was already pregnant with Hiiragi's baby. Fortunately, Tokusa was able to run away from Yuzuriha's scheme and also exposed her and Hiiragi to the campus and the latter's household.
    • Yuzuriha comes to Akamatsu's apartment and claims to be pregnant with his baby. However, the situation turns sour when Yuri and Akane are also present, forcing him to run away. While she is indeed pregnant, though it is revealed she lied about the baby being Akamatsu's.
  • Bad Review Threat: In this story, when Karin, Yuri, and Yuzuriha visit Akamatsu's organic cafe a second time, Karin notes that the cafe is empty despite being so crowded one week ago. When Yuzuriha shows her a 0.5-star review of the café, it turns out Akamatsu himself only let pretty moms get in without a reservation and he sexually harassed them after they breastfed their babies. To top it off, Yuzuriha plays a video on social media that shows him being an asshole to a mom whose baby puked on the table.
  • Bait-and-Switch: This had Karin try to figure out who of her in-laws didn't like her by telling each of them that she didn't like one thing and to instead give her another thing. Akane was told that Karin hates cake but likes Japanese sweets. The next time Karin is over for dinner, Akane brings out a cake... only to also give Karin her own separate dessert, explaining she only got cake because her family loves it so much.
  • Bait-and-Switch Character Intro: When Akane is presented with a ring that her soon to be husband Hiiragi picked out with his mother, she flips out and says that this wasn't the ring she wanted, making her seem like a Bridezilla. However, it's later revealed that she's actually a sweet person who got steamrolled by her future mother-in-law Azami all through the wedding planning process. Her outburst at the wedding was her being frustrated that she couldn't even choose what her wedding ring looked like.
  • Based on a True Story: All of the episodes are based on real-life stories.
  • Batman Gambit:
    • This video had Hiiragi plan one against Akamatsu for a past incident where the former harmed the latter's mother. After hearing about a ramen place that was known for gangs and scoping the place out himself, he intentionally took Akamatsu there and slipped one of his red hairs into the man's ramen when he wasn't looking. Akamatsu, who was infamously known for his temper over small things, flew into a rage, insulted the owner, and threw his bowl, which caused the gang members nearby to beat him senseless for insulting their boss.
    • One episode had Karin realize one of her in-laws didn't like her after being invited to a dinner where every dish served had eggs (which Karin previously stated her dislike for). So, she calls all of them individually and gives each a different claim that she dislikes something, knowing that the one who truly hates her wouldn't be able to resist using it against her.
  • Beach Episode:
    • A video has Karin try to enjoy a day at the beach but unfortunately all the antagonists disregard the lifeguard's warning about the waves being too rough to safely enter the water, and she has to rescue them.
    • Another video has Tachibana and Akamatsu go to the beach with Tachibana's sister Tsutsuji. Akamatsu disregarded Tsutsuji's warnings when he went for a swim and ended up nearly drowning but she was able to save him.
  • Bears Are Bad News: Tokusa encounters a bear cub and later its mother after finding his wandering daughter Yuri in the forest, who being a little girl, mistook them for dogs. While he manages to get himself and Yuri out of the situation unscathed, the whole experience left him with PTSD.
  • Beauty Breeds Laziness: Akane steals Akamatsu away from Karin by pretending to be a feminine Housewife, in order to get her hands Akamatsu's money. Once Akane and Akamatsu are married, she stops doing housework, reveals that the lunches she gave Akamatsu were cooked by her mother, and spends Akamatsu's money on expensive luxuries. Karin could tell right away that Akane was lazy, by looking at Akane's nails and expensive accessories, but didn't bother warning Akamatsu as punishment for his cheating.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: In some stories where the antagonist character of the story isn't really as bad as they initially seem, an act of kindness on the protagonist's part is enough to make them have a Heel Realization and change their ways. Other times this trope is the reason why characters like Hiiragi and Yuzuriha end up stalking the protagonist.
  • Becoming the Mask: Akamatsu initially only befriended Kuroki, and later his little sister Yuri, because he had a crush on their mother Yuzuriha and wanted to use his relationship with them to get closer to her. As the years go by however, Akamatsu and Kuroki genuinely become best friends while Yuri develops feelings for Akamatsu. When Akamatsu hears that Yuzuriha's boyfriend Katsura plans to propose to her, he plans to crash the dinner he plans to do so at, but Yuri also requests for Akamatsu to visit their house on the same night so she can tell him "something important". Akamatsu chooses Yuri. Cue Babies Ever After.
  • Bedroom Adultery Scene: Karin walks into her room to find out that her husband Akamatsu was having sex with his sister, Akane. It turns out that the lovebirds aren't really siblings, they are only using that as an excuse to have an affair whenever Karin is not home.
  • Best Friends-in-Law:
    • One story has Yuri and Tsutsuji as childhood friends who grow up to marry each other's older brothers. Tokusa is Yuri's older brother and Katsura is Tsutsuji's older brother.
    • Akamatsu and Kuroki become this after Akamatsu marries Kuroki's younger sister Yuri.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Yuri in certain episodes can snap if pushed too far. So can Katsura. Both can be pretty scary in their own ways when they snap.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Hiiragi appears to be a quiet person at Akamatsu's workplace; despite this, he does his job properly. One day, Hiiragi suddenly notices something weird when Akamatsu gets a complaint call from someone at late night, causing him to approach and prevent Tachibana from sending his money to someone purported to be his granddaughter. The incident causes his other co-workers to think highly of him for his heroic actions.
  • Big Brother Instinct:
    • Tokusa, after finding out that his fiancee Akane previously bullied his little sister Tsutsuji and planned on bullying her into being her slave once they're married, breaks up with her on the spot.
    • Hiiragi, after finding out that Azami falsely accused his little sister Tsutsuji of stealing money from the wallet she left behind at the restaurant his sister worked, vowed to make her pay. He eventually uses his skills as a detective to expose Azami for stealing money from her company, leading to her arrest.
    • Yuri stands up for her younger sister Tsutsuji when her mother-in-law Azami talked crap about her tea tasting as bad as Yuri's. And she did this while suffering morning sickness from being pregnant.
  • Big Eater:
    • Yuzuriha's overweight brother-in-law Hiiragi steals a lot of food from her fridge, he even stole the birthday cake that Yuzuriha made for Tsutsuji's son Katsura, leading her to plan something against him.
    • Yuri loves to eat food, especially sweets. She always wants to eat after seeing food imagery and her stomach constantly rumbles.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Hiiragi appeared to be a good boyfriend to Akane. However his sister Yuzuriha revealed that Hiiragi beats her, and had been divorced two times due to domestic abuse.
  • Biting the Handkerchief: Akane is seen biting a handkerchief after Hiiragi breaks up with her.
  • Bittersweet Ending: While Hiiragi manages to ruin Akamatsu's life, he takes no joy in his revenge as he still regrets not seeing his grandmother one last time.
  • Blaming the Cuckold:
    • When Akane gets caught cheating, she feels no remorse and claims that her affair was partially her husband Kuroki's fault for "not being enough of a man," much to the disgust of her parents, Kuroki, and her own children.
    • Akane claims that it's Yuri's fault that Akamatsu, Yuri's fiancee, was cheating on her with Akane for not giving Akamatsu enough attention. To make matters worse, she says this to Katsura, her own husband.
    • When Hiiragi is caught cheating by his wife Yuri, he claims that his affairs were her fault for not complimenting him enough.
    • Akamatsu blames Yuri for his cheating, claiming that it's her fault for not taking care of her appearance, conveniently forgetting the fact that Yuri doesn't have time to do so because in addition to being a housewife, she was also busy taking care of Akamatsu's parents, and Akamatsu refused to help her.
  • Blaming the Victim:
    • Azami believes everything that happens in life is the result of their own choices. She blames Yuri for almost getting molested, blames Tsutsuji for being bullied in high school, and blames Tachibana for getting into a car accident, even though he was hit by a car that ran a red light.
    • When Akane arrives late for work because she got molested on a train, Akamatsu blames her for wearing something inappropriate.
  • "Blind Idiot" Translation: Typos, grammar mistakes, and misuse of words galore. The voiceovers often correct the shoddy translation work in the comics themselves.
  • Blood from the Mouth: At first, the men thought Yuri was dying because she was coughing up blood in her mouth. However, the women in the company revealed that she has endometriosis in her lungs.
  • A Bloody Mess: Kuroki thinks that Yuzuriha has committed suicide in her bathtub, but it is revealed that the "blood" is actually wine because she wanted to have a wine bath, and she fell asleep afterwards.
  • Born in an Elevator: In this episode, Yuri's water breaks, and her family wasn't home to take her to the hospital. She eventually decided to drive there herself when the taxi was uselessly far away, but the baby was due too soon and gave birth inside of the car. A driver behind her, Tachibana, got irate and checked the car to complain to her until he sees her giving birth and calls for an ambulance.
  • Bouquet Toss:
    • When Akane the bride tosses the bouquet, Karin ended up grabbing it. However, Akane refuses the result and insults her, in which Karin returns the bouquet back to her. On the second toss, Karin's friend, Yuri, grabs it, which Akane also disapproves of. It then culminated in the girls passing the bouquet around, from Tsutsuji to Azami to the other background women, who all reveal that they never liked Akane. Eventually, it had to be given to a relative.
    • Another episode with Akane as the bride has her tossing the bouquet at Azami in an attempt to humiliate her for being single; however, she ends up kicking it instead because she believes receiving a bouquet from an arrogant person would bring bad luck.
  • Bribe Backfire: Hiiragi tries to bribe Karin by giving her a job and her salary doubled at his company so she wouldn't testify against his nephew Akamatsu for molesting Tsutsuji, a schoolgirl inside a train. She refuses his offer and testifies against Akamatsu in court, causing him to be charged and found guilty of what he did to Tsutsuji.
  • Brick Joke: When talking about how it's incredible it is that his son Kuroki is thinking about the family store at a young age, Tachibana also mentions that he himself acted pretty stupid at that age. During this scene, there is a panel featuring him and Karin as kids where he flips up her skirt. Later on in the episode, after Kuroki starts asking Karin on advice on how to become stronger, Tachibana mentions that Karin was always strong and there's a panel where child Karin is beating him up for the skirt flipping.
  • Bridezilla: There are a bunch.
    • This one had Akane, the bride, kicking out her brother, Kuroki, because he was too ugly and claim that he was dead.
    • A different wedding that had Akane as the bride, had her forcing her fiance, Hiiragi into debt to pay for a very lavish wedding but her attitude caused the wedding to be canceled mid wedding.
    • Yuzuriha tries to kill Hiiragi with a knife after he exposed her past misdeeds to everyone during their wedding, causing the police to get involved.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: Hiiragi wets his pants when a Yakuza gang confronts him and Akamatsu for forcing Kuroki to meet them.
  • Broken Pedestal:
    • Karin saw restaurant owner Akamatsu as a nice old man who cooked good food. But a bad phone call from him at work (with him not noticing that it was her) led her to find out that he wasn't as nice as he appeared to be. Not to mention his abuse of his wife. The final nail in the coffin: The good food Akamatsu cooked actually came from said abused wife, eliminating the one redeeming quality he had left.
    • In this episode, Kuroki looked up to his best friend Hiiragi before the latter died. However, Akamatsu and Tachibana reveal that Hiiragi was actually a bully who bullied many students in the past. To make things worse, he also stole Kuroki's crush before he could confess to her, and she was actually blackmailed into marrying him so he can get her money and abused her. When everything is revealed, Kuroki's friendship with Hiiragi shattered and he started to realize that he began to hate him as well.
    • Tsutsuji used to think Yuzuriha was perfect due to how quiet and elegant she seemed. This opinion of her changed however after Tsutsuji found out that not only does Yuzuriha physically abuse her son Hiiragi, but she actually enjoys doing so.
  • Brother–Sister Incest:
    • A video that had Akane be so mad that her brother Kuroki had a girlfriend and getting married that she crashed the wedding while wearing a wedding dress demanding that Kuroki don't marry. While Akane claimed that she didn't love Kuroki in a romantic way, she was very clingy to Kuroki after breaking up with her fiancé.
    • In another video, Karin's father Hiiragi is creepily obsessed with his sister to the point that Karin's mother divorced him and refused to let him anywhere near their daughter for 20 years because he began to act inappropriately towards her too due to her looking exactly like her aunt.
    • An episode that thankfully averts this. Akamatsu has a crush on Akane but she rejects him. Later on, he finds out that they are actually long lost siblings, making things extremely awkward between them for a while.
  • The Bully:
    • Akamatsu and Tachibana are a duo of bullies who pushed Kuroki onto a train to be "spirited away", fortunately, a train conductor was able to open the door for him before the train leaves. When Kuroki transferred to another school, Akamatsu and Tachibana switched their attention to Karin for standing up to him and started bullying her. On graduation day, Akamatsu and Tachibana steal Karin's diploma in an attempt to lure her into a train to be "spirited away". However, Akamatsu and Tachibana become confused after Karin doesn't follow them, nobody else is inside the train, being given weird looks by other bystanders, and the doors of the train eventually close, trapping them inside, causing them to beg Karin to help them. Karin then tells them they are going to be the ones to be "spirited away" and the train eventually leaves with them trapped inside, which is revealed to be an out-of-service train going back to the garage. Because of this incident, Akamatsu and Tachibana are scolded by their respective parents and Karin was given her diploma back.
    • Akane is this towards Yuzuriha just because her crush preferring someone like Yuzuriha over her, causing her and her friends to bully Yuzuriha for several times. Yuzuriha tries to tell a teacher about the bullying, but she gets ignored by her. Akane eventually crosses the line by burning Yuzuriha's school uniform, forcing her to take her shirt off in front of her classmates, Akane and her friends then continue to insult Yuzuriha for taking her shirt off in the classroom. He realized a while ago that he had a serious problem and began seeing a psychiatrist to treat his anger issues, and never told Karin about either because he didn't want to use either as an excuse for his behavior. Touched, Karin calls off the divorce and the two work together to help Tachibana get over his psychological wounds. Years later, Tachibana turns out a far more loving father to his own son Kuroki, and has none of it when his parents call again asking him to give Kuroki to them.
  • Cheater Gets Cheated On:
    • Because of how many times she's involved in affairs, this trope naturally happens a few times with Akane.

He turns out to be incredibly incompetent, staking out his house for two weeks and coming to all the wrong conclusions about his private lifenote . Unsurprisingly, the detective agency is revealed to have gone out of business in the epilogue.

  • Conspiracy Theorist: Hiiragi thinks his sister's crime for stealing Tsutsuji's money is a government conspiracy to make her break up with him, Tsutsuji dismisses his pathetic claim as an alien language.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: After a series of events lead to Yuri giving birth in her sister's car, Karin, who is a nurse at the hospital, informs Yuri that she could have just called an ambulance instead of trying to drive to the hospital herself while in labor.
  • Covers Always Lie: The thumbnail always splices together panels that weren't together originally and often alters dialogue in ways that are deliberately misleading. This partly serves as click-bait, but also serves to avoid spoiling the actual plot of the episode. Though the general rule of thumb is that anything in red text in the thumbnail is probably not something anyone actually said in the episode.

    • Yuri lived in a house consisting of four families that she considered as her own family, the big family was led by a woman who she thought was her grandmother, Azami. Yuri was the only one who went to school while the other children didn't. After Yuri told her teacher about her family, they broke apart and Yuri left her mother behind with her father and brother. It was later revealed that the "family" was actually a religious cult that discouraged education and none of them were biologically related to Yuri's family at all, and Azami was the leader of the cult. Yuri's mother also remained devoted to the cult even after Azami's death.
    • In one story, Yuzuriha finds out that her in-laws are followers of a shady cult, her daughter is eventually indoctrinated by them.
    • Akane, Azami, and Yuzuriha witnessed Karin saving a cat, they later come to her apartment believing she was a knight and chosen by God for her braveness, much to her annoyance. Irritated by Azami's behavior, Yuzuriha tells Azami's father about the cult she's following, causing him to teach her a lesson. Yuzuriha also manages to convince Akamatsu who also attempted to scam her into joining Azami's cult after losing his money and it eventually turns him into a devout follower of the cult.
    • Akane frequently visited Azami's house to extol the virtues of the cult she's a member of, which is led by Hiiragi. All seemed fine as Azami was the only one who didn't meet her with throwing eggs or insults. However, Akane learns of Hiiragi's true colors when she finds a beaten-bloody Akamatsu, whom he beat up with a baseball bat. While Hiiragi claimed it was for embezzlement, Akamatsu revealed that he and the cult's higher-ups were also in it for the money, which prompted Hiiragi to beat the poor sod to near death before hitting Akane as well. However, she runs away to Azami's house and the latter calls the cops on him.

It is revealed that Hiiragi actually tried to pin the blame on Tachibana for his affair by using his daughter to cover his tracks.
    • Karin decides to get a DNA test when a senile Akamatsu claimed that he was her father, instead of Tachibana. When the results came out, Katsura turns out to be Tachibana's only child, while Hiiragi turns out to be the product of Akane's affair with another man, and Karin turns out to be not biologically related to either of them because she was accidentally switched with another baby at birth.

The episode even ends with Hiiragi's character intro like it did for Kuroki at the beginning.
    • This story starts from Yuri's perspective about how she sees her emotionless husband Tachibana and son Kuroki who was bullied by Akamatsu until the latter was admitted into a hospital because he was attacked by someone else, causing her to worry if Tachibana was the culprit when he was questioned by the police. • Depending on the Artist:

When Akane heard of this, she immediately broke up with him before their wedding.

  • Distaff Counterpart: If you watch enough videos, one might notice that most of the girls can feel a bit like counterparts to the boys in their personalities and the roles they most frequently play. Or maybe the boys are Spear Counterparts to the girls. Some are more obvious than others, with the most obvious being Akane and Akamatsu, who both have the character Aka at the beginning of their names, and both sport the same shade of red hair, while Azami and Tachibana stand out for not having anyone in the cast they draw a direct parallel with. It also seems that the characters who parallel each other the most (Katsura and Yuri, Tokusa and Karin, Kuroki and Tsutsuji, Akane and Akamatsu, and Hiiragi and Yuzuriha) also end up being paired together romantically the most often.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Kuroki is distracted by Yuzuriha's beautiful appearance when he rides his scooter in the middle of rain. Unfortunately, the distraction causes him to crash into a truck because he didn't pay any attention to the road.

  • Downer Beginning
    • This episode begins with Akamatsu who is depressed due to being unemployed and feeling as though he can't trust anyone. From there, the viewer learn how he became like this from the first place. Back when he was a child, his parents would take every opportunity they could to compare him to his older brother Hiiragi who would also talk down to him. While he was able to forget about his home life when he was hanging out with his best friend Tachibana, the latter eventually had to move away after the two of them got into middle school. Then several years later, Akamatsu decides to visit his then girlfriend's apartment only to find out that she was cheating on him with his older brother. Enraged that Hiiragi was once again gloating at him, Akamatsu beats up his brother, cuts ties with his family and quits his job so he doesn't have to see his ex anymore.

    • This episode begins with Tsutsuji being harassed by her in-laws (verbally by Azami and sexually by Akamatsu) with her husband Hiiragi doing nothing about it and even enabling them. Eventually things come to a head when Akamatsu tries to force himself into the bathroom, fully intending to have his way with her while she's taking a shower and she ends up running away.
  • Downer Ending: This story. Kuroki dies of the same illness that took his father Tachibana's life over a decade earlier, and there's no indication that his mother Yuzuriha suffered any consequences for cheating on his dad and putting the family in debt.
  • Driven to Suicide: This happens in a few stories. Every time another character will manage to drag whoever was driven to that point back from the edge before they can carry it out.
  • Dysfunctional Family:
    • Hiiragi's family is riddled with problems: drowning in debt, his parents are part of a shady cult, a shut-in older brother and an older sister who ran away to get away from these problems.
    • Karin's family have a lot of problems: Her father, Tachibana is an alcoholic, short-tempered Domestic Abuser. Her mother, Akane, is a hysterical woman who refuses to take care of her children and the house. Her older brother, Hiiragi, is a narcissist jobless man who often plays around with different women. Averted for her younger brother, Katsura, since he is the other Only Sane Man in the house along with her.

  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference:
    • An early Japanese video has a different hair-styled Karin rather than black hair. There is also a red-haired Katsura in the same episode.
    • Etra-chan's design in the outro of earlier Japanese episodes is rather different from her current design, which is also used for the English outros. Interestingly, her old design still remains as her channel icon.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • The earliest videos in the Japanese channel do not feature the cyclical cast, until this video first used the cast and has been stuck with it since. It's rather telling that the English channel skipped towards the episodes featuring the main cast.
    • In the very first English dubbed video, all the characters are voiced by a woman, and Yuzuriha is called Takahashi.
    • One earlier video casted Katsura as the antagonist, an anomaly nowadays since the protagonist actors are near-universally portrayed as good in every story. You'd expect Hiiragi or less commonly Akamatsu or Tachibana to play the role of a Stalker with a Crush in later videos.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending:
    • One episode had Azami deal with an abusive marriage, terrible in-laws, and years of grief over her stillborn daughter. By the end, she manages to get a divorce, sue her ex and his family for a hefty sum, and gain a daughter thru her daughter-in-law.
    • Akamatsu had to endure unloving parents who treated him as The Unfavorite since childhood, a Big Brother Bully who constantly looked down on him, his girlfriend Akane cheating on him with said brother, and temporarily becoming a NEET due to quitting his job to not see Akane anymore. However, he eventually reconnects with his childhood friend Tachibana who hears out his troubles and then offers him a job at his company. Akamatsu then regains his trust in others, becomes more positive, and is implied to end up with Yuri at the end. It should also be noted that by this point in time, he has managed to cut ties with his toxic family.
  • Easily Forgiven: An example that's Played for Laughs. After Akamatsu's family embarrasses Akane by speaking different languages in order to teach her a lesson on respecting cultures, she runs off angrily. Hiiragi then reveals that the reason he brought her to the family reunion in the first place was to get revenge on her for his brother. The family then yells at him for dragging them into this mess. However, Hiiragi was fully expecting this to happen, so he brings out some expensive sake and sure enough, is instantly forgiven.
  • Embarrassing Nickname:
    • In this story, Tokusa gets the nickname "Rich Landowner," because of an incident when Akane misinterpreted "jinushi" for "owning several lands," instead of "having hemorrhoids."
    • The name Acchan was attributed to Tsutsuji at high school. Her boyfriend/husband Akamatsu initially nicknamed her "Azalea," which is the flower that Tsutsuji's name means in English, before shortening it to Acchan. This freaks her out when Karin and Tokusa refer to the nickname as the name of Akamatsu's nonexistent mistress.

    • While Akamatsu and Tachibana may be in prison for their crimes, they mention that they only target adults. After learning that Hiiragi is in prison for messing with kids, they make it their goal to make his stint there a living hell and extend his prison sentence as they feel as though four years clearly isn't enough time for him to suffer.
  • Everybody Did It: When Yuri discovers a few of her rings missing, she remembered inviting Yuzuriha, Akane, and Azami in her house before the rings were missing, which she and her husband Katsura hatched a plan to catch the suspect. When she called the three about the ring's whereabouts, they not only feign ignorance of the missing rings, but also accused each other of the theft. Yuri then invites them back into her house to find the rings, which they all "found" the rings that "appeared" to be misplaced. Through hidden surveillance cameras, Yuri and Katsura learn that all three of them stole her rings in the first place, which results in their arrest.
  • Everybody Has Lots of Sex: Mostly the antagonists, but practically every character has slept with every other character of the opposite sex at least twice each, be it just for fun or to conceive the many, many children they've had together over the show's Negative Continuity.
  • Everyone Has Standards: While Akamatsu and most of his coworkers hate Hiiragi due to how arrogant he is, they are all horrified when it seems like his arm was blown off.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: Akane's dog Momo is usually friendly towards new people but is scared to interact with Hiiragi. As it turns out, the reason why Hiiragi approached Akane that day was so that he could take Momo away from her and eat the dog once he got home. She makes it clear that she wants to "meet" with Akane, but not "forgive" her.
    • When Akamatsu and Yuri divorced because he cheated on her with Azami, Yuri loses custody of the house she designed with the only consolation being any possession but the safe holding their savings. Yuri complies, in which she orders the house demolished and takes everything but the safe, which was emptied before Akamatsu and Azami return home.
    • When Akane found out there was no inheritance for her despite being told otherwise, her brothers Katsura and Tachibana tell her that their father Tokusa spent all his money on an expensive retirement house. However, the latter one tells her that despite this, Tokusa did leave her everything as he promised, and by everything he meant all his remaining debts.
    • When Tachibana and his family refused to move out of Katsura's house for multiple times, Katsura decides to let them to stay there as much as they want. However, a few days later, several people from a moving company start moving everything from the house, causing Tachibana to complain to Katsura, but he makes it clear that they can stay in his house, as long as they pay the rent, because he and his own family has already moved to a new house.

So, they give Hiiragi his house back. Exactly the way it was before they moved in.
