  • Gag Censor: In this episode, there is a scene where a naked Akamatsu jumps out of Akane's apartment to hide from her husband, and he lands on Yuri. His dick is also censored by Etra-chan herself during the parts where he isn't depicted as a chibi.
  • Gambling Ruins Lives: Akamatsu and Kuroki are cousins who have a Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling-like dynamic; the plot starts with Akamatsu trying to scam the hardworking and financially responsible Kuroki by claiming he needs the money. The reason why Akamatsu needs money is because he lost his money playing pachinko. When Kuroki exposes Akamatsu's scheme to Akamatsu's parents, Akamatsu tries to murder Kuroki for "making him look bad," which fails thanks to Karin's boxing skills. When Akamatsu's parents force him to get a job at a factory he complains about how hard factory work is. All-in-all, Akamatsu is portrayed as a lazy, immature, self-pitying loser who gambles because he's too lazy to work for money.
  • Gaslighting:
    • Akamatsu attempts this on a young Tsutsuji when he leaves the house with Yuri and comes back with Yuzuriha. When Tsutsuji asks him about it, the couple tells her that Yuzuriha is her mom while denying Yuri's existence. Even when she told it to her grandparents, Hiiragi and Azami, they also told her the same answer. Eventually, Tsutsuji started believing it until she asked Yuzuriha to make her a pudding, whose bad taste reminded her that Yuzuriha wasn't her real mom. Years later, when she confronted Akamatsu with the family register, he finally admitted to it. Moreover, he revealed his affair with Yuzuriha and therefore kicked Yuri out of the house for being sickly so he could marry the former. Enraged by the truth, Tsutsuji stormed out of the house.
    • To get revenge on Azami for abusing her, her husband and her siblings in law, Yuzuriha comes up with a plan where they all try to convince Azami that Yuzuriha has been dead for two months. This makes Azami believe that she saw the former's ghost. Their neighbors get in the act as well as they also don't like Azami. Eventually, Azami can't take it anymore and moves away.
  • Get Out!:
    • When Hiiragi and Azami show up to congratulate Karin and Kuroki for having a "real" baby and mock Tsutsuji for being adopted, Karin splashes water in their faces and throws a bunch of objects at them, telling them to get out.
    • When Tsutsuji's parents show up at her house, they tell her that her sister, Yuzuriha, ended up in juvie as a result of being so spoiled. They reveal that they constantly praised her and ignored Tsutsuji to mold her into the "perfect human". They then ask to raise her daughter so they can try the same thing again. Tsutsuji refuses and tells them to leave.
Tsutsuji: Go home, please. You'll never have my daughter! Never show your faces again!
    • While the girls grew tired of Azami's stinginess, Azami's intent of not only giving Akane an empty envelope but also throwing the receptionist under the bus is the last straw for Tsutsuji, so she stops her car and orders Azami to get out. When Azami refuses to leave, Yuzuriha throws her handbag out of the car to make her leave.
    • Katsura kicks Akane out of his house for cheating on him with Akamatsu twice.
Katsura: This is the second time!! I can't trust you anymore! Get out!!
    • Katsura angrily yells at his wife Yuzuriha to get out of his house for giving birth to a child conceived out of her affair with their former neighbor, Tachibana.
Katsura: Get out, you whore! Do you have any idea how I feel?!
  • Gold Digger:
    • Akane is often cast in this role.
    • Yuzuriha tries to get Kuroki's non-existent fortune by marrying him while he was still in a coma.
    • In this story Yuzuriha starts off as one, being born in a dirt-poor family. This is a subversion, however, as she focused on working hard on her studies in addition to her beauty. When Yuzuriha put her sights on Tokusa for being rich, she realizes over time that she genuinely likes him.
    • Yuzuriha, who rejected and belittled Tokusa in middle school for being short, tries to get his attention after finding out that he became rich during a middle school reunion. Tokusa quickly rejects and tells her that he is going to marry Tsutsuji and he regrets having a crush on her back then.
    • Hiiragi is a male example, he leeches off of Karin by giving everything that she gave to him to his favorite hostess. He later breaks up with Karin when she refuses to lend him $20,000.
    • Yuzuriha only accepts Hiiragi's marriage proposal because he works in a company with a good salary. After they get married, Yuzuriha forces Hiiragi to change himself for the better. In the end, he manages to meet her expectations and they both are now Happily Married.
    • Yuzuriha only dates Hiiragi because he earns a lot of money as a doctor, he also doesn't mind despite being bullied by her in the past. It turns out Hiiragi has been manipulating her into marrying him so he can expose her past misdeeds to everyone during their wedding.
  • Good All Along:
    • It's common for certain stories to rely on the regular antagonist characters' reputations from their antagonist roles to make it seem as if they're up to their usual antics at first, only for it to either turn out someone else is the antagonist this time and they're innocent, or the antagonist had a sympathetic Freudian Excuse this time for their behavior and turns good by the end.
    • In this episode Tsutsuji sees her mother-in-law, Azami as someone who's cold and somewhat odd around her, doing things like waiting outside of the shower room when she takes a shower. It later turns out she does truly care about her, and a lot of her odd behaviors have reasons behind them, such as patrolling the shower room because Azami's father-in-law is a massive pervert who has watched Azami as she bathed.
    • This episode has Azami and her dog chasing and yelling at Tsutsuji when she's walking home from school. It's later revealed that she was trying to protect her from Hiiragi.
    • In the middle of night, Akane sees two delinquent-looking guys, Akamatsu and Tachibana. She tries to avoid them, but they begin to follow her, causing her to be spooked and run away from them. It turns out they are actually trying to save Akane from Hiiragi, a pervert, who stalked and showed his naked body to her.
    • Tokusa sees a group of bikers consisting of Akamatsu, Tachibana, and Hiiragi in front of a convenience store, spooked by their presence, he decides to drive away after buying a drink from a vending machine nearby. However, Tokusa notices that he is being chased by Akamatsu and Tachibana and tries to evade them, unfortunately, they eventually catch up to him. It turns out the reason they were chasing Tokusa was because they wanted to give him the free drink he forgot to pick from the vending machine.
    • Kuroki hangs out with a bad crowd that consists of the antagonists (Akane, Akamatsu and Tachibana) to rebel against his older brother, Hiiragi. When Kuroki gets sick at the beach, his friends immediately help him, cementing them as Kuroki's true friends.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: In this episode, Akane is jealous of Tsutsuji because she lives as a rich housewife, prompting her to borrow $10,000 under Tsutsuji's name behind her back. She eventually ends up getting arrested and her husband divorces her.

     H
  • Happily Adopted:
    • Tsutsuji gets adopted by her uncle Kuroki and aunt Karin after they find out that she was neglected by the family of Hiiragi, her other uncle. After the couple adopted Tsutsuji, they're met with criticisms and false rumors, despite this, they still care about her. When Hiiragi and his wife Azami mock Tsutsuji for being adopted after Karin gave birth to her child, Karin responds by kicking the couple out by throwing several things at them, which affirms Karin and Kuroki's love for Tsutsuji.
    • Tachibana's father Katsura re-married Yuri, who also brought her daughter Yuzuriha with her into their house. However, Katsura passed away in his sleep, leaving Yuri to raise both Yuzuriha and Tachibana, adopting him into her family. Four years later, Yuri re-married Tokusa who brought his son Kuroki with him. Yuzuriha and Kuroki adapted to the new family quickly, however, Tachibana didn't feel the same way due to the fact that he was not blood-related to either of them. Despite this, the family keeps treating Tachibana like their own and Tokusa also promises to cover Tachibana's tuition fees to study at the Etra Institute of Technology University so he could do what Katsura couldn't.
    • Akane was given a job and a place to stay by Kuroki and his parents at his guest house after escaping from her physically abusive father, Tachibana. After the summer season is over, Akane decides to quit her job and leave the house, though Kuroki encourages her to stay whenever she likes. However, Tachibana manages to find them, and Kuroki lets himself be beaten up by Tachibana to save Akane from him. Fortunately, a police officer, Karin, caught Tachibana beating Kuroki, with her father Akamatsu recording the beating, causing Tachibana to be arrested for assault. After the incident, Akane decides to stay at Kuroki's guest house, he also adopts her as his daughter, and she is now married to Katsura, and they have a son together.
    • Tachibana is adopted by Tokusa after Akane left them both. After Tokusa died protecting him from a speeding car, Kuroki and Yuzuriha adopt him. Things go well until they have a child of their own. Azami then remarks about Tachibana not being their own son and therefore worthless. After the boy overheard this, things start to go downhill from there. Fortunately, Kuroki and Tachibana are able to reconcile with each other a few years later.
    • Akane kidnapped Karin from her biological parents, Hiiragi and Yuzuriha, to get back at Hiiragi for cheating on her with Yuzuriha. Even though that Karin is not blood-related to her, she still raises and treats her like her own daughter, and Karin also wants to stay with her after knowing the truth about her biological mother.
    • Akamatsu was adopted by Tachibana and Karin after his mother Tsutsuji died giving birth to him, and his father Hiiragi was paralyzed in a truck accident, rendering him unable to care for Akamatsu. He only learns this after Tachibana died from cancer and he grew to dislike Hiiragi for what he perceived to be an insensitive joke when Tachibana lost his arm a few years prior. They make amends when Akamatsu learns the truth, but he still regards Tachibana and Karin as his parents.
    • Tsutsuji was adopted by Yuri and Katsura after her parents passed away. Despite there is no blood relation between the couple and Tsutsuji, they still treat her like her own daughter, but she ends up getting bullied by her classmate Akane for being adopted.
  • Harmful to Minors:
    • In most episodes involving children growing up in abusive homes, the children are either beaten by their parent (or parents) or witnessed one of their parents, usually the mother, being beaten.
    • When Tachibana was a boy, he witnessed his mother sleeping with another man, with the man resembling Tachibana himself. He blocked the memory upon being caught and threatened by Yuzuriha until he crashes into a truck in his adulthood and unlocks that memory.
    • After Akane picked up Karin and Yuzuriha from prep school, the two impatiently left the car to look for their mom, only to see her kissing their teacher, Hiiragi. They expose it to their father, Kuroki, who divorces Akane and sues both her and Hiiragi.
    • Akane ends up getting kidnapped by Akamatsu and Hiiragi and then gets a knife placed near her throat. She later witnesses her mother point a gun at said kidnappers and threaten to shoot them.
  • Haunted House:
    • Karin and her husband Kuroki live in an apartment that is supposedly haunted by a ghost who committed suicide inside the apartment. However, Azami wants them to move out because of how cheap the apartment is. Karin and Kuroki then started taking several photos of the presence of ghosts inside the apartment in an attempt to make Azami stop harassing them, unfortunately, she doesn't believe any of their "ghost sighting" photos. Eventually, Karin tells Azami that she and her husband will be moving out next year, and believing this, she stops harassing them. Next year, Azami and her husband Hiiragi then move into the cheap apartment after Karin and Kuroki moved out. However, she starts to regret her decision to move. Later that night, Azami experiences sleep paralysis, and the ghostnote appears with a noose around his neck, causing her to be terrified of the ghost's presence. Because of this, she and her husband eventually moved out of that apartment and the ghost decides to follow her as well.
    • Karin moves into an apartment that was cheap because someone committed suicide there. However, she hears several footsteps coming from upstairs and also notices several intruders in front of her door, suspecting them to be the culprit of these footsteps, this causes her to inform her landlord about it. The police were then called to investigate the place because the landlord noticed several footprints on the second floor. The police eventually caught the intruders, though they turn out to be kids hanging out because they have no time to play because they were persuaded by their parents to study. The landlord then tells Karin that the kids never went upstairs, and she also informs her that there is not even a room above her, causing her to move out, with a ghost hiding inside her bag.

By the time he catches up, he finds that Ho has bitten the hand of a man, Tachibana, for seemingly no reason, which really shocks him. Kuroki worries at first that Tachibana might try to have the dog put down for biting him, but then the parents of Tsutsuji, a neighborhood girl who likes to play with Ho, arrive and explain what happened. Tsutsuji had been walking home from school when Tachibana attempted to kidnap her. Ho had heard Tsutsuji's aborted attempt to cry for help and ran to save her, biting his hand and forcing him to let go of her. She'd then run away frightened, which was why she wasn't there when Kuroki caught up.

The old man's son helps the two annul the marriage, allowing them to be together.

He grew fat and hopeless, until he saves his childhood friend, Karin, from his unstable mother. With his mother's arrest and Karin's support, he decides to take control of his own life and shed his lifestyle.
    • Katsura seems to become one, after failing to get into the company he wanted to join and quitting his part-time jobs, but it turns out that he'd been studying and planning to join a different company to get better qualifications to try again and quit his part-time jobs because he'd saved enough money to tide him over for a while. He'd managed to finally get accepted into a company and was already planning to move out of his parents' house when Tokusa came to check up on him.
    • Akane and Azami became shut-ins because of their own reason. In Akane's case, she was rejected by her crush and was called a "pig" by him, as for Azami's, she was bullied by other girls because of her weight.

  • Insane Troll Logic: Hiiragi is convinced that he and Akamatsu are in a gay love affair. What made him come to this conclusion? Akamatsu told him that his relationship with Karin isn't as passionate as it was four years ago, which Hiiragi interpreted as him saying that he's not in love with her anymore and wants to date him instead. Then when Akamatsu starts planning a late honeymoon to the Maldives with Karin, Hiiragi took that as him toying with his feelings instead of realizing that he misread the situation. Akamatsu and Katsura can't muster a response because of how nonsensical his line of thinking is.
  • Insult to Rocks:
    • When Azami refused to admit her wrongdoing to her boss a few days after an incident during Akane's wedding day, Tsutsuji finds her logic absurd and alien, while apologizing to the aliens for the comparison.
    • When Tokusa asks his boss, Kuroki, why he hired Hiiragi, who barely does any work, Kuroki says that he needed the help, then says that he would hire a cat if it could carry plates. Tokusa then says that a cat would be a hundred times more useful than Hiiragi, only for Tsutsuji to say that's insulting to the cat.
  • Irrational Hatred: Karin tries to introduce her fiance Tachibana to her family, but it all crashes and burns as no amount of evidence to the contrary can convince her judgmental mother Azami and her possessive brother Hiiragi that Tachibana isn't a despicable low-life that Karin needs to dump immediately. They're still ruminating on it a decade later, choosing to instead not speak to Karin or her family rather than admit any wrongdoing. Karin's father Akamatsu, however, is much more reasonable.
  • The Irredeemable Exception: The episode called Some people change, others don't... features Tachibana, Akamatsu, and Hiiragi as a trio of delinquents who drink and smoke. Hiiragi convinces the other two to start shoplifting. Tachibana eventually feels guilty and gets himself a job to make an honest living and Akamatsu follows his example. Hiiragi is the only one who feels no remorse for his actions and grows up to be a criminal while Tachibana and Akamatsu successfully turn their lives around.
  • Irony:
    • Akamatsu, the biggest horndog of the cast, is the only antagonist not involved in the orgy in this episode.
    • During an argument with Azami over stolen tickets, Akamatsu manages to have more common sense than her despite being drunk.

     J
  • Joke and Receive: Akane jokingly tells Yuzuriha that she should be aware of her mother-in-law, Azami, fearing that she will show her true colors to Yuzuriha after marrying Hiiragi. She turns out to be right.

     K
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: One episode Akane becomes a celebrity despite her being a massively untouchable bully to everyone in her middle school, including pretending what she did to other people was done to her instead. Cue Azami, enraged by her lies, made a forum post exposing her. Dozens of old classmates then follow suit and go as far as to even target her father, who's a scummy businessman himself. By the end of it, Akane ends up getting fired from her agency, and her father's company goes bankrupt.
  • Karmic Shunning:
    • Akane selfishly abandoned her husband, Kuroki, and child, Tsutsuji for another man, leaving a letter to her family telling them that she wants nothing to do with them anymore. A year latter, Akane returns, having broken up with her old boyfriend, and asking Karin to help her contact with Kuroki, having been disowned by both her biological parents and in-laws and having to stay at a manga cafe. However, not only does Karin refuse to tell Akane where Kuroki went, she also informs Akane that Kuroki has found a new wife and that he and Tsutsuji want nothing to do with the woman who abandoned them.
    • Tachibana cheats on his fiancee, Yuri, with Yuri's sister, Akane, who has gotten pregnant with Tachibana's baby. Yuri and Akane's parents decide to switch Yuri with Akane, which causes Yuri and her younger brother Katsura to disown them. During the wedding, Tachibana's mom slaps Tachibana and Akane for what they did, and most of the wedding guests leave when they see that Yuri was replaced, with the few that stayed also leaving when they learned why. Tachibana, Akane and her parents get disowned by the rest their relatives and friends and are neighborhood laughingstocks, with Tachibana even having to quit his job due to his coworkers hating him. Even worse, because the company had several connections, Tachibana can't find another job.
    • Akamatsu divorces his wife, Karin and abandons his daughter Tsutsuji, because the woman he cheated with, Akane(who is also Karin's sister), is pregnant with a boy. Despite how horrible their actions were, they have the audacity to ask Karin and Tsutsuji to attend their wedding, which they refuse. During the day of the wedding, literally no one who was invited came, as everyone they invited knew about the circumstances of their marriage, and no one wanted to celebrate the birth of their son either. Even Akamatsu's parents hate him, with his father leaving behind all of his assets to Tsutsuji, and his mother disowning him when he tries to confront her about the inheritance.
  • Karmic STD: In this story, Akamatsu slept with Akane after the latter told him that Karin worked at a bathhouse (thanks to Tsutsuji's poor wording). After realizing Karin actually worked in a public bath and the fact that Akane used to be a prostitute, he ends up contracting herpes.

     L
  • Laborious Laziness: Azami and Akane are so lazy, that they put more effort into forcing Hiiragi to work multiple part-time jobs and coming up with excuses of why they can't work themselves. When Hiiragi starts working at Karin's family farm, they come all the way over to force him to come back and give them his money instead of just getting a job themselves.
Tokusa: Geez... If they had the energy to come all the way over here, I'm sure they would be able to find a job.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Akamatsu lampshades the title of the series when he returns home.
Akamatsu: Etra-chan saw that I'm home!
  • Language Barrier:
    • In this episode, as part of Azami's scheme to make Akane stop coming to Yuzuriha's house, she gets her husband John to pretend to be the tenant of the house who can only speak English, when he answers the door for Akane, she is unable to understand anything he says.
    • Yuri and Akane try to help John after seeing him unsuccessfully trying to ask people for help due to his inability to speak Japanese.
  • Laziness Callout:
    • Azami is envious of Yuri because of the CEO's praise of her. In order to make Yuri look bad, Azami decides to spread rumors about Yuri; the CEO doesn't buy Azami's lies for a second, and chews her out for harassing other people rather than do her own job.
    • Akamatsu and Akane's wedding was a disaster because he tried to copy off of Katsura's wedding without doing any research and only spent a month planning it. When Akamatsu tries to blame Katsura for his poor decisions, Katsura counters by pointing out how he should have done more research and spent more time planning out his wedding.
  • Lazy Bum: Akamatsu quits his job in an attempt to become a pro gamer; however, he does nothing but laze around at Tsutsuji's house. Annoyed by Akamatsu's behavior, Tsutsuji challenges Akamatsu in a fighting game. After winning several matches against Akamatsu, Tsutsuji calls him out for his laziness and decides to end their relationship. Several years after the breakup, Akamatsu takes Tsutsuji's advice and now works as a truck driver.
  • Lethal Negligence:
    • Akamatsu is a Lazy Husband who is on thin ice with his wife, Yuzuriha, for cheating on her on top on his neglect of household chores and care for his son, Kuroki. One day, when Akamatsu is out with Kuroki, he leaves him roaming in the streets in order to go drinking and cheating with a hostess. Yuzuriha and her parents are naturally horrified that Kuroki was lost, and angered at Akamatsu for abandoning him. Worse, Akamatsu tries to "justify" himself by claiming that it was fine since Japan is a safe country and that the woman he was cheating with was at fault for making him cheat. Naturally, neither Yuzuriha nor her parents buy his excuses, causing him to get divorced and disowned.
    • Akane was an extremely neglectful mother who would take advantage of her husband's long work hours to party with men all day, leaving her own children alone. In addition, she was too lazy to clean the house, meaning her children lived in filth, and she would sometimes lock her own children out of the house, even during winter, when she had a man over. One day, she abandoned her kids, who were adopted by their much kinder uncle and wife. Years later, after her kids have grown up, she decides to come see them again...because she needs money. Her kids tell her off and abandon her as payback.
  • Littlest Cancer Patient: The episode A mother is determined to do anything for her 5-year-old daughter who's terminally ill, but... centers around Yuri getting cancer at five years old and her mother Azami trying to save her. She later gets put on hospice to live out the remainder of her days.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Akamatsu was the only person at his workplace who was initially unaware that his coworker Tsutsuji was actually a crossdressing Kuroki.
  • Loony Fan: Several of Hiiragi's fangirls start leaving gifts at Kuroki and Akamatsu's apartment because they think that Hiiragi lives there because he shares the same surname with the brothers. Later, one of the fangirls, Yuzuriha, tries to break into the apartment to have Hiiragi killed after the news of his relationship with a fellow idol was announced, while also unaware that he doesn't live there. Fortunately, Yuzuriha ends up getting arrested by the police for her trouble.
  • Loophole Abuse: When Tsutsuji divorces Akamatsu for cheating and embezzlement, his parents slander her by twisting the reasoning around and threatens her with silence. She keeps the promise by faxing the divorce paper to her in-law's company's clients, printing multiple copies of the paper then throwing them on a windy day to spread it throughout the neighborhood, and not justify her reason to anyone asking, which she coldly repeats to her in-laws of how she should keep her mouth shut.
  • Lost in Translation: One story involves Hiiragi acting really snobby towards coworkers who use certain words in his hearing. The problem is that in the original Japanese version of the episode, his issue was specifically that he has a low opinion of people who use English loan words for anything that already has an equivalent word in Japanese. The English dub doesn't properly convey this very well, making his attitude make little sense to any English speaker watching the episode.
  • Love at First Punch: Tachibana fell in love with Yuzuriha after she ran over him with her motorcycle during a gang fight. The two of them later get married and have a daughter together.
  • Love Interest vs. Lust Interest:
    • Akane often plays the role of the Lust Interest in stories where she acts as an antagonist; Akane typically desires men for shallow reasons like money, looks, or the thrill of stealing away another woman's man, while her rivals choose men for deeper reasons. Akane, while typically portrayed as very attractive, usually has a very unlikable personality, relying on sex appeal and feminine charm to woo men, while her less attractive rivals are able to win men with their more likable personalities. In stories where Akane ends up stealing away her rival's man, the relationship tends to go sour quickly due to their superficial personalities, with either Akane and/or her man discovering the hard way that a person who'll cheat with them would also cheat on them; by contrast, Akane's rivals tend to enjoy much more fulfilling relationship due to their willingness to be loyal to one another.
    • Yuzuriha and Tsutsuji are the Lust and Love Interest for Tokusa respectively; back in middle school, Yuziriha rejected and made fun of Tokusa for being short and having a babyface, while Tsutsuji, who received similar treatment for being tall was interested in him because of his kind-hearted personality. During the class reunion, Yuziriha tries flirting with Tokusa when she sees that he's handsome and rich. When Tokusa rejects her and reveals that he's engaged to Tsutsuji, Yuzuriha is confused that he'd choose a less attractive girl over her, showing that she's the same shallow girl she was in high school.
  • Love Letter Lunacy:
  • Loving Bully: Tachibana used to pick on Tsutsuji back in elementary school because he had a crush on her. In high school, he no longer bullies her and later saves her from Akamatsu but is still too scared to tell her how he feels.
  • Lust Makes You Dumb:
