  • Malicious Slander:
    • Akamatsu spreads false rumors about Tsutsuji as retaliation for not only rejecting him but also reporting him for sexual harassment. Both Tsutsuji and Yuzuriha stage a confession from him and expose it to the manager, resulting in clearing Tsutsuji's name and getting Akamatsu fired and divorced.
    • In this story, Akane plants lolicon porn in Kuroki's room to falsely accuse him of fetishizing Yuzuriha, because Yuzuriha likes her uncle more than her own mother. None of his family wants to hear his perspective, and nobody believes in Yuzuriha's defense. Kuroki eventually vindicates himself, but since the irreparable damage is already done, he never wants to see his family again for gullibly believing Akane and accusing him.
  • Mama Bear:
    • This story features Akane of all people as one. When she found out that her daughter Yuri was bullied by Azami and Yuzuriha, she pulls no punches in being ready to call the principal of her school out for not doing anything, even screaming at the former of the two bullies when she tried to get Yuri to forgive her.
    • Yuzuriha's response to Akane getting kidnapped? Point a gun at said kidnappers and threaten to shoot them if they don't give her daughter back.
    • Karin flying sidekicks Yuzuriha after the latter attempts to kidnap her son.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Hiiragi is a heroic example, he tricks Akamatsu and Azami into selling their assets and then abandons them with their money afterward because he knew that they only want to adopt him so they can turn him into their money tree.
  • Massively Numbered Siblings: Tachibana and Yuri had five children together, which spells trouble for them when Tachibana's brother Akamatsu calls requesting to adopt one of them so they can inherit his house.
  • Meaningful Background Event: When Akane starts insulting and cussing at Hiiragi, Akamatsu can be seen in the background filming her on his phone. Later on in the episode, the video gets uploaded on social media where her friends Karin and Yuzuriha see it. After learning about her true nature, they cut ties with her.
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor: The antagonists are actually nice people behind the scenes in the first anniversary video.
  • Meet Cute:
    • After making her way down from a shrine, Yuri accidently trips on one of the stairs begins to fall when Katsura catches her. The two of them eventually become a couple which gives her friend Akane the idea to try and invoke this in the hopes of getting a boyfriend as well. However, Akane ends up injuring herself instead when she tries to pull it off as Hiiragi ends up ignoring her. Later on in the episode, this trope is finally Played Straight for Akane when she is in the hospital and almost touches hands with Akamatsu after they reach for the same pudding cup.
    • Kuroki and Karin met when the latter's car gets stuck in the snow during a snowstorm and the former helps her out.
    • Parodied here in this episode. Akamatsu is running late for school, has a slice of toast in his mouth and even has bubbly shojo manga eyes. During his rush to get to school, he ends up bumping into someone. However, instead of it being a cute guy, it turns out to be the gym teacher Tachibana who yells at him for being late.
  • Meet The Inlaws: Akamatsu in one episode was meeting his 17-year-old daughter's boyfriend who was 25-year-old. Akamatsu was just ready to defend Yuri.
  • Miles Gloriosus: When Tsutsuji panicked while getting robbed at gunpoint and let the robber get away, Hiiragi brags about how much better he would have handled the situation. However when the same robber came back, and did the same thing to Hiiragi, he crawled up into a fetal position and was so traumatized that he quit his job.
  • Misplaced Retribution: In this episode, Hiiragi took his stress out on a middle-school aged Akamatsu by beating him up, because he was rejected from various universities. When questioned by the police, Hiiragi states that he could attack anyone on sight to relieve his stress.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: Has it's own page.
  • Mistaken for Dog: In this story, a toddler Yuri wandered through the forest and pointed her arriving father Tokusa to a "big doggy", which turned out to be a bear cub. Years after the incident, Yuri still mistook the bears for dogs, to which her mother Karin tells her the truth while Tokusa had a mental breakdown upon being reminded of it.
  • Mistaken for Dying: Yuzuriha notices that Azami and Yuri are trying to feed her a lot of food, because they think that she's dying of an illness after seeing her losing most of her weight. It turns out Akane was lying to Azami and Yuri about Yuzuriha dying because she was jealous of her huge weight loss.
  • Mistaken for Gay:
    • Tokusa ate the last piece of Kuroki's fried chicken, which caused the latter to pull a prank on the former as revenge. Kuroki baked some cupcakes and slipped them inside Tokusa's desk on Valentine's Day. Tokusa became nervous when he found out since the school they studied in was an all-boys school. After a while, Kuroki told Tokusa about the prank and demanded he apologizes for eating his fried chicken, Tokusa then asked him to make more cupcakes for him. The next day, Kuroki discovered that his classmates spread a rumor about him and Tokusa being a gay couple.
    • Akamatsu's co-workers think he was in a relationship with Hiiragi despite the fact that he was married to Karin. He was then called by his boss Katsura regarding the situation, he reveals that Hiiragi was telling him about Akamatsu being his boyfriend and he was playing with his feelings. Akamatsu and Katsura confront Hiiragi about his lies, as it turns out, he genuinely thought he and Akamatsu were dating. He became upset that Akamatsu went on vacation with his wife instead of him and he also slapped his hand when he attempted to molest him inside a crowded train.
  • Mistaken for Junkie: In this episode, people gossips about Akamatsu teaching several children about a specific type of grassnote after they told their parents about him. However, he actually taught them about dangerous grass that can be found on the ground so they wouldn't get sick when they put them in their mouth.
  • Mistaken for Murderer:
    • Tsutsuji gets a call from her husband Tokusa to come down to their apartment's parking lot to help him carry something large which is covered by a tarp, one of the apartment's tenants, Karin, witnesses them, thinking they have killed somebody, she then decides to call the police on them. The police arrive at Tokusa and Tsutsuji's apartment and see them having their clothes covered with blood, causing them to enter and investigate where the blood comes from. The "dead body" turns out to be a large dead tuna fish and they were merely cutting the fish apart, causing them to be covered with blood.
    • After breaking up with Akane for cheating on him with Akamatsu twice, Katsura develops an interest in rifles. However, Akane and Akamatsu think that he is going to kill them after rumors about him having a rifle spread, with Katsura himself being clueless about the situation.
  • Mistaken for Pedophile:
    • Karin witnesses her friend Tsutsuji usually coming out crying from the guidance room with a teacher, Kuroki. When she notices both of them entering the guidance room, she assumes that Kuroki was molesting Tsutsuji and takes a photo of them together with her camera without thinking twice. Kuroki reveals the reason Tsutsuji often went with him to the guidance room because her parents physically abused her at home, causing her to cry many times and he was there to console her and report the abuses to the child services.
    • After Kuroki tells his parents all about his encounter with Hiiragi and how he had offered to take him to the back of the store because he had a surprise, they immediately forbid him from going back there, saying that it's dangerous. Even after Kuroki convinces him to come with him to the store, Akamatsu still finds Hiiragi suspicious and tries to make sure the old man doesn't try any funny business with his son. Thankfully, the surprise Hiiragi was talking about was a bunch of Omein Gazer Etra merchandise and he had wanted to show it to Kuroki as they were both fans of the show.
  • Mistaken for Romance: Akane and Azami think Yuri is going out with a handsome guy named Hiiragi, they then hide her belongings from her to spite her. However, Yuri reveals that Hiiragi is gay and her actual boyfriend is Katsura.
  • Mistaken for Suicidal: Yuri thinks that Tachibana is going to commit suicide by jumping off a building, causing her to rush to the rooftop to save him. However, Tachibana turns out to be a burglar who was trapped on the rooftop and the money he stole was blew away by a strong wind, causing him to try to catch them back. To add insult to the injury, the money that Tachibana stole turns out to be fake money for children.
  • Mistaken for Undead:
    • Yuri is mistaken for a ghost who committed suicide after losing her child, she would always push a stroller with a doll on it at the local park and insist that the doll is her child to people who wanted to point the doll out. In reality, she was just exhausted from housework and walking her first daughter Tsutsuji with her favorite doll to her nursery school with the stroller while also pregnant with her second daughter Karin. Since the school doesn't allow dolls, she had to return home while pushing the stroller with the doll on it, and the bystanders who noticed her were terrified of her presence, which caused the whole urban legend about her.
    • Tsutsuji gets mistaken for a child spirit haunting a cottage run by Hiiragi and Azami. Turns out she's the child of the two owners and Hiiragi's forcing her to hide from people to cover up his abuse.
    • Akamatsu gets mistaken for a ghost by Tachibana and Akane, who broke into his apartment thinking it was haunted. The couple tries to have Akamatsu arrested; however, they end up being the ones getting arrested by the police for trespassing into his apartment.
  • Mistaken Identity:
    • Tsutsuji cosplays as her English teacher, Ms. Yuzuriha, for a high school festival. This causes Azami to mistake her for Yuzuriha and attack her for having an affair with her husband. She immediately regrets it when she realizes she mistakenly the wrong person and later apologizes.
    • Akane mistakes Yuzuriha for her son's girlfriend and confronts her for scamming her son. Luckily, the misunderstanding is cleared up and the true culprit, Azami, is arrested for marriage fraud.
    • Yuzuriha mistakes Akamatsu for her boyfriend, thinking that she is his affair partner. Fortunately, Yuzuriha's actual boyfriend named Todomatsu shows up, which clears up the misunderstanding because both Akamatsu and Todomatsu look almost identical to each other.
  • Mood Whiplash: In this episode, following a fairly chilling scene where Tokusa finds out that Azami placed several surveillance devices in his apartment and the extent of which she has been spying on him, there is a scene where he goes down to the police station where much to his embarrassment, officers Akamatsu and Tachibana find footage of him about to watch porn. What doesn't help is that Tachibana cheerfully mentions that he likes office lady porn as well.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Tachibana is filled with self-loathing due to an incident in the past where his sister Tsutsuji was molested because he didn't walk her home from school. He's given an opportunity to atone when his "friends" Akamatsu and Hiiragi try to kidnap and rape a middle-school aged Karin.

     N
  • Naked Apron: Azami orders and apron online to help prepare her for pregnancy. Akamatsu comes to the conclusion that she intends to wear it naked after searching online wondering why she ordered it. It's later revealed that the apron was for carrying different fruits and vegetables in order to practice the feeling of being pregnant.
  • Naked People Are Funny:
    • A naked Akamatsu jumps from a window of an apartment to hide from his lover's husband, he accidentally lands on Yuri, causing her to be rushed into a hospital.
    • Kuroki caught his neighbor Hiiragi, who was trying to steal his underwear after coming out from his bathroom, prompting an awkward conversation when the police come with Hiiragi still being naked.
    • Hiiragi stalks and shows his naked body to Akane, much to her horror.
  • Negative Continuity: Due to the nature of the series, each story is completely self-contained.
  • Nephewism: After being abandoned by their parents, Tokusa and Tsutsuji live with their aunt and uncle, who loves them like they were their own children.
  • Nepotism: Akamatsu was only hired because he is Akane's relative's son. He is late to work and always has his coworkers Tokusa, Katsura, and Kuroki do his work for him. Akane threatened to cut their salaries if they didn't wake him up in time. Tokusa hatched a plan to wake him up with several alarm clocks from the other workers. However, this caused Akamatsu to report his coworkers which led to their salaries being cut. Having had enough, they quit the company and transferred to Tachibana's company. Akane's company crumbled and was bought out by another company. Akamatsu tried to apply to Tachibana's company, but Yuri threw out his application.
  • Never Win the Lottery:
    • In this story, Akamatsu wins the lottery and spends the money for himself and his mistress while abusing his wife, Yuri. He eventually tries to reconcile with Yuri after his mistress stole all of the lottery money.
    • In this story, Yuri learns that her parents won the lottery and were using the money to refurbish the house. This led Akamatsu, her classmate from middle school who she has been distant since graduation, to ask her out for her parent's money. When she rejects him, he didn't take it well and it escalates into harassment until her boyfriend threatens him.
    • In this story, Azami wins the lottery and she begins bragging about it to her friends and coworkers. Unsurprisingly, she loses the money through overspending on luxurious things and her partner stealing the rest and her car through marriage fraud.
  • Nice Character, Mean Actor: To Etra-chan's horror in the first Anniversary video. She fears that the Protagonists are this as she sees them act differently from their normal characters such as Tokusa forcing himself onto Yuzuriha. In contrast to the Antagonists, where Akamatsu defends her. Fortunately, it turns out to just be a prank.
  • No Antagonist: Some stories feature the misadventures of several characters with no antagonists involved.
  • No Full Name Given: Due to how malleable their relationships tend to be from one story to the next, the characters are only known by their given names. This does make it a bit awkward in English when referring to married couples as a family unit and they're called "the Akamatsus" or "Mr. and Mrs. Akamatsu" for example.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Kuroki tries to tell Azami that her skirt was unzipped, but instead of thanking him for pointing it out, she accuses him of being a pervert, causing the other classmates to stay away from him. One day, a teacher, Karin tells her students that she had the same experience in the past when Katsura pointed out that her skirt was unzipped and she thanked him for it, making Azami realize what she did was already crossing the line and decide to apologize to Kuroki.
  • Nosebleed
  • The Nose Knows:
    • Tsutsuji's acute sense of smell make her sensitive towards certain people. She realizes that she can sense deathly omen by the scent, since she recognized it from her deceased father, a dead rat, and the recently-hospitalized Karin. The omen comes true when she passes by Tachibana, who is going to be hit by a car.
    • Katsura has an incredible sense of smell, and he can know people's activities just from smelling them. He nearly caused his parents to divorce, when he smelled perfume on his father Tachibana. He decided to hide this ability until he entered college, when he smelled something on Hiiragi which made him suspicious of him. It later turned out that Hiiragi was possessing cannabis and was arrested by the police.
  • Non-Idle Rich: Katsura works part-time at a convenience store despite owning several lands and is rich. He does it so that he can have something to do and show his daughter a good example.
  • Nosy Neighbor:
    • Hiiragi is annoyed by his two-timing neighbor Akamatsu who often has his girlfriends coming over, making him unable to sleep properly in the process. Hiiragi decides to get back at Akamatsu by informing both of his girlfriends by putting a fake warning paper with the photo of a girlfriend's car onto another girlfriend's car and vice versa, Akamatsu ends up getting dumped by his girlfriends and he also gets beaten up by one of his girlfriends, Yuzuriha, for cheating on her.
    • Yuri is unable to sleep because Hiiragi sings every night in an attempt to impress her, but he is an awful singer. Hiiragi's singing also causes Tsutsuji to move out early than she expected.
  • Not Blood Siblings: Yuri and Karin get adopted by Katsura and Tsutsuji, who have a son named Tokusa. Years later, Yuri and Tokusa end up getting married.
  • Not Good with Rejection: Akamatsu never got over Yuri rejecting him back in college and decides to get back at her years later by sending her an invitation to his and Akane's wedding, despite not having invited her. When Yuri asks why her name is not on the guest list, Akamatsu reveals that she was never invited and the invitation was fake. Unfortunately, this ends up backfiring on him as he gets scolded by Karin, Tokusa, Kuroki, his parents, and his future in-laws for what he did. In addition, Akane calls off the wedding and the marriage since she knows he would do the same thing to her if they ever got into a fight.

     O
  • Obfuscating Insanity: Hiiragi manages to save Tsutsuji from Akamatsu and Tachibana by taking out a knife and stabbing his own hand while laughing like a maniac. After they run away, he reveals it's just a trick knife and that he covered his hand in fake blood.
  • Obnoxious Entitled Housewife: Azami and Akane are often portrayed as entitled and conceited housewives who meddle in other affairs or bother others over the little things. Ironically, Karin is never a "Karen" in those scenarios.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: There are a lot of stories focusing on conflicts with the in-laws. Azami is the most likely antagonist to get this role and is all but guaranteed to be the obnoxious mother-in-law if she's the mother of the protagonist's husband. Akane is usually a sister-in-law instead but has had the role of mother of the protagonist's wife a few times. While Yuzuriha is the least likely female antagonist to get this role. As for the boys, Hiiragi is most likely to be a father-in-law, with Akamatsu being about evenly split in father-in-law vs brother-in-law roles, while Tachibana is the least common character in this antagonist role. But usually, if they are antagonistic as in-laws, they're second to the girls.
    • This episode involves an interesting case of the roles being swapped, with Azami being cast as the abused daughter-in-law and Akane as the obnoxious mother-in-law.
  • Obsessive Love Letter: Akane had love letters sent to her by an unknown stalker, over which she even lost the will to bully Tsutsuji. Things escalate when the stalker sends photos of her cheating on her fiance to the office, the man himself, and his parents, driving her to quit her job. In the end, the stalker turns out to be Yuzuriha, who did this to avenge a childhood friend of hers who took her own life over Akane's bullying in high school and because her coworker Tsutsuji's situation reminded her of said friend's.
  • Off-Model:
    • In this story, Akane is drawn with Azami's hair color.
    • In another story, Akamatsu is drawn with Hiiragi's hair and eye color.
    • Here, Karin's right leg clips through the desk she's standing behind.
    • Here, Akamatsu is wearing his usual outfit when he's storming into his house, but in the next shot is suddenly wearing a business-casual ensemble instead.
    • Yet another instance of Akamatsu, where his leg partially clips through the coffee table.
  • Oh, Crap!: Hiiragi has this expression when he is confronted by all three of his girlfriends: Akane, Yuzuriha, and Azami.
  • Old, Dark House: Akamatsu rents a cheap, old house because he wants to save money; however, the house is suspected to be haunted due to the weird smell coming from it and Akamatsu witnessed a long haired girl coming out of his closet in the middle of night. Tokusa feels something fishy about the place, so he has Tachibana to check the ceiling. The "ghost" turns out to be Yuzuriha, a stalker who keeps coming to the house even after she broke up with her ex-boyfriend, and the smell actually came from the food she brought over there. The whole incident causes Akamatsu to move out.
  • Older Than They Look:
    • Yuri appears to be similar to an elementary schooler, however, she is actually 23.
    • Yuri thinks that Hiiragi is a college student, however, Tokusa reveals that he is a 34-year-old office worker despite his younger look.
    • Azami looks like a younger woman despite being 45. Many people also mistake her son Tokusa for being her brother because of how beautiful she is.
  • Omniglot: Akane brags a lot about how great America is while looking down on Japanese culture after she went studying abroad there, this causes an old man Tokusa to speak German, French, Russian, and Mandarin Chinese to her asking why she looks down the Japanese culture. His grandson Hiiragi reveals that he was an intelligence agent during the World War II.
  • Once More, with Clarity:
    • This video started off with Kuroki explaining the situation with his short-tempered boss, Akamatsu, and how he got beaten up by several gang members after insulting their boss' ramen. It then switches to Hiiragi's POV, revealing the entire event was deliberately plotted out by Hiiragi as revenge for Akamatsu harming his mother years prior. Even his temporary transfer was part of the revenge.
    • This video starts from Yuri's perspective as she deals with her husband's apparent apathy to their son Kuroki's issues with a bully. Towards the end it switches to Tachibana's POV as various scenes from the episode are replayed from his perspective, showing how he really feels about the events unfolding around him.
  • One Dialogue, Two Conversations: Yuzuriha bought a huge stock of plant vitalizers after noticing one of her plants started to wilt. Azami barges in to leech off of her purchases and mistakes the vitalizers for aphrodisiacs. Yuzuriha goes along with it and gives her some as a prank.
  • One-Steve Limit:
    • Both Tsutsuji and Yuzuriha assume that Hiiragi is cheating on them. When Hiiragi returns home and finds both women in his apartment, neither he nor Yuzuriha recognize each other and dispel the suspicion. Yuzuriha's boyfriend, who is a completely different character from Hiiragi, merely shares the same name as Tsutsuji's husband.
    • Yuzuriha stalks Akamatsu and his wife, Karin, because she believes her boyfriend is inside the house. When the police apprehend her, she didn't recognize Akamatsu as her boyfriend, who is also named Akamatsu. Rather horrifying, the police report that the Akamatsu who "dumped" Yuzuriha never dated her. She has been delusional this whole time, rambling about this "Akamatsu" who may never exist, especially in the end, where she identifies Hiiragi for Akamatsu.
    • Azami thinks Karin won a vacation to Hawaii and tries to tag along with her, prompting Karin to tell her that the person who won the prize happens to have the same name as hers, but she dismisses it as a lie and continues to pester her about the non-existent vacation.
  • Only Cares About Inheritance:
    • Akane combines this trope with Psychological Projection; while at Tokusa's funeral, she sees her sister-in-law Tsutsuji crying, which Akane thinks is hilarious because she assumes that Tsutsuji was just fake crying out of a desire to get extra inheritance. Akane gets called out by Karin, as Tsutsuji visited Tokusa all the time. Akane's husband Katsura is infuriated when he finds out what she said, as unlike him and Tsutsuji, Akane never visited Tokusa, was late to the funeral, didn't go to the crematorium, and only wanted to take part in inheritance discussions. He even goes so far as to divorce her, as, in addition to the previous reasons, he also doesn't want Akane to get any of Tokusa's money. When Katsura asks Akane for a divorce, Akane demands half of the inheritance and claims that Katsura just wants to keep it all for himself.
    • Out of Katsura's four children, Kuroki was the only one who actually cared about him, while his other three children Akane, Azami, and Hiiragi only cared about his money and constantly mooched off of him. During Katsura's funeral, Kuroki is the only one who's sad about his father's death, while the other three immediately bring up the inheritance. Unfortunately for the three greedy siblings, Kuroki receives the bulk of the inheritance, as Katsura decided to subtract the amount of money his kids borrowed from him from their respective inheritances and donate it to charity. Kuroki's siblings have the audacity to ask Kuroki for his inheritance, but he refuses because they never cared about their father.
    • At Kuroki's funeral, his brother Tachibana, the Black Sheep of the family, shows up and immediately asks for some of the inheritance and the insurance money, even going so far as to pick a fight with Tokusa for trying to stop him. When Tachibana sees Karin, his niece-in-law, he offers to settle for half the money if she sleeps with him. Fortunately, Karin manages to stop Tachibana by having a Drinking Contest with him, which she easily wins due to her high alcohol tolerance. Later, it turns out that Tachibana needed the money because he was in debt to loan sharks, and he ends up being Killed Offscreen for not being able to pay them back.
  • Only in It for the Money: Kuroki was initially reluctant to do a long distance delivery; however, when Hiiragi offers him $500 to do the delivery, he gladly accepts it.
  • Only Sane Man:
    • Azami has to deal with her family (daughter in law included) trying to open a tin can box and is the only major character who's first instinct isn't to open it. She will also lampshade the other characters' weird obsession with it resulting in the latter doing a "Silly Me" Gesture.
    • Akamatsu has to deal with his wife and son's Irrational Hatred of his future son-in-law Tachibana, and finds their attempts at digging up dirt on him ridiculous. He's the only one in their family that Karin invites to the wedding and maintains contact with afterwards.
  • Opaque Nerd Glasses: Yuzuriha in addition to being chubby also wore thick glasses in high school.
  • Out-of-Context Eavesdropping:
    • Akane accuses Tsutsuji of being a pornstar in an attempt to make her boyfriend Tokusa break up with her due to Akane thinking he is rich and owns several lands. Tsutsuji's friend Karin reveals that Tsutsuji was overweight in high school and often mistaken for being that pornstar because they look alike, Tokusa also reveals that he isn't rich at all and has hemorrhoidsnote, the reveal causes Akane to run away crying. The whole incident started because Akane eavesdropped on Tsutsuji and Karin talking about Tokusa's hemorrhoids in the cafeteria and misinterpreted the context.
    • Yuzuriha "marries" Kuroki without him knowing because he was in a coma due to an accident, claiming he is the heir of a large company and owns a Porsche. Kuroki's parents Tokusa and Karin end up going to court against Yuzuriha. Hiiragi is then called by the judge and reveals the actual context about her claims; Kuroki is actually a farmer from the countryside, the "Porsche" is revealed to be a tractor named "Farm Road Porsche" and the "next company president" is actually a nickname for Kuroki because he was sharing vegetables his parents grew to poor students, including Hiiragi. The "marriage" ends up being nullified by the court's order. As it turns out, Yuzuriha lived next to Kuroki's apartment and eavesdropped on him talking on the phone with Hiiragi and she took the conversation between them completely out of context.
    • Akane and Yuri think that Tsutsuji was recommending adult magazines to her students when Akamatsu yelled, in reality, she was actually talking about young adult novels, which are books aimed at teenagers.
    • Hiiragi overhears Yuri reacting to a text from Katsura saying she loves him. Hiiragi thinks she was talking about him and sings love songs to her every night from his apartment room next door.
  • Outlaw Couple: Hiiragi and Yuzuriha are a married couple who target men for their money, the former serves as the cameraman who fabricates the evidence of adultery, while the latter seduces men into having sex with her. Kuroki later becomes the couple's next target, fortunately he doesn't fall to Yuzuriha's charmness, and they eventually gets arrested by the police.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Azami and Tokusa's daughter Yuri gets diagnosed with cancer and ends up passing away at the age of 5.

     P
  • Pædo Hunt:
    • In this story, someone under the username of "UK" posted predatory descriptions of Yuri on social media, much to her mother Tsutsuji's dismay. When Karin sent her a photo of the predator's house, it turned out to be Hiiragi in the TV screen's reflection. When Tokusa finally arrested him, it's also revealed he had tons of child porn in his computer.
    • Akamatsu cheats on Yuzuriha with Azami who is revealed to be a 17-year-old high schooler, exposing himself as someone who likes younger girls, despite the age gap.
    • Hiiragi lied about being a teenager so he can date Yuri, who is a high schooler, in reality, he is actually a married office worker. He eventually gets arrested for his actions.
    • Hiiragi and Akamatsu only want to become teachers because they are obsessed with young children. Moreover, Akamatsu originally wanted to become a middle school teacher, but Hiiragi managed to convince him to become an elementary school teacher because elementary schoolers are easier to manipulate than middle schoolers. The duo ends up getting expelled from college for their behavior and their dream to become teachers is completely destroyed.
    • Yuzuriha is shown to be obsessed with little kids, she also tries to kidnap a young Katsura because she can't hold herself back due to how cute he is.
  • Panty Thief: Akane stole Yuzuriha's expensive underwear because she felt envious of her for having many pairs of expensive underwear; however, when she tries to wear them, they don't fit her at all due to her weight, causing her to pass out and get rushed to the hospital.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Mr. John is the CEO of a company who goes undercover as General Manager. His only disguise is a fake mustache and glasses, and his alias is Mr. Jack. No one recognizes him until his mustache falls off and he removes his glasses.
  • Parental Favoritism: Hiiragi favors his daughter Akane over his son Tachibana. When Akane refuses a house Hiiragi offers to let her live in because it's old and decrepit, he decides to let Tachibana and his wife Yuri move into it to fix it up. Then once everything is finished, he kicks them out so Akane and her husband Akamatsu can move in instead. Tachibana is floored by this, since he always knew Hiiragi liked to spoil Akane, but didn't think he favored her to this degree.
  • Parental Marriage Veto: Azami doesn't approve of her son Akamatsu's fiance Yuzuriha because she has a prejudice against cityfolk, and when Akamatsu leaves overseas for a business trip, begins plotting to get rid of Yuzuriha. When Yuzuriha uncovers some antiques in an old family warehouse and convinces Azami to have them appraised, she decides to tell the village that Yuzuriha stole them and then blackmail her into giving up on her son and going home. Unfortunately for her, Akamatsu decides to come home early after hearing the news and discovers what really happened. Infuriated that she drove Yuzuriha away with her lies and prejudice, Akamatsu cuts ties with Azami and reunites with Yuzuriha.
  • Parental Substitute: A lot of stories involve the protagonist being a better parent to a child than the kid's actual parents.
    • Kuroki is neglected by his stepmother Akane, and his father does nothing to help. His stepbrothers Tachibana, Hiiragi, and Akamatsu, who were just as neglected by Akane as Kuroki was, decide to take matters into their own hands to make sure he has a happy childhood.

The one time Akamatsu played a cop though, he blew off a family whose daughter got kidnapped the moment he found out the kidnapper was her grandmother, deciding that this meant it didn't count as a kidnapping because it was a family member who took her, even though, statistically, the majority of kidnappings are perpetuated by relatives to begin with.

You're healthy, no illness to keep you from working, you just don't wanna work and I don't really care about the age difference but if you want me that badly, why don't you do something? Several years later, Akamatsu gets into trouble for hitting a student, but he thinks what he did to his students is some kind of Tough Love, but in reality, he is just a power-tripping bully.
  • Sanity Slippage: Akane cheated on her husband Kuroki with Akamatsu. When she tried to move in with him, she found out that he had a fiancee. This broke her heart and caused her to go insane. Since then, she began to hallucinate Kuroki everywhere demanding that she apologize. Her parents eventually hospitalized her.
  • Scenery Censor: Due to Hiiragi spending a sizable chunk of this episode naked, his privates are censored using either his hands, objects in Kuroki's apartment or speech bubbles.
  • School Bullying Is Harmless:
    • Yuzuriha tries to complain about Akane bullying her to a teacher, Azami. However, she ignores Yuzuriha and tells her to "fix" her attitude so Akane would stop bullying her. Unfortunately, the bullying escalates, and the school eventually expels Akane and fires Azami for ignoring the bullying.

They even try and steal the seats the couple were going to sit in for themselves and the two other women they were with. But in end when it turns out those seats were reserved but the ones Hiiragi and Yuri moved to after being chased away were not. It turns out that Hiiragi noticing this fact was why he didn't put up a fight when they tried to steal them.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • When Tokusa is called in by his crazy boss Hiiragi, he is asked to bear a child for his equally insane daughter. This causes Tokusa to gather his stuff and leave the company as quickly as possible. Shortly after, his coworkers also leave when Hiiragi tries to ask the same of them.
    • After a drunk Akane starts wreaking havoc in the izakaya and beating up most of the guys, Tokusa and his friends decide to book it out of there.
  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: In this episode, Yuzuriha believes in a superstition where one of the two women living in the same household will have a miscarriage. After she demands Karin to have an abortion because of the myth, she ended up having the miscarriage herself weeks later. Since she adamantly believes in the myth and that she was carrying heavy luggage during pregnancy, the miscarriage was likely self-inflicted. Yuzuriha continues to accuse Karin of her miscarriage until her mother-in-law scolds her.
  • Self-Harm:
  • Separated at Birth: Akamatsu has a crush on the most popular student in his school, Akane. As it turns out, they are actually twin siblings, with Akane being the oldest of the twins. Akamatsu and Akane were separated while they were one year old due to the divorce of their parents, their father Hiiragi took Akamatsu with him while their mother Yuzuriha took Akane with her. The reveal also makes Akamatsu stop having a crush on his sister.

  • Sexy Villains, Chaste Heroes: Akane and Yuzuriha are both depicted as incredibly attractive, particularly when they're casted as antagonists, while the Always Lawful Good Karin and Tsutsuji are more modest. Both groups have outliars in Azami, who is typically drawn as plain-looking and stuffy, and Yuri who is just as beautiful as Akane and Yuzuriha, but in a more cute way. On the male side the Pretty Boy Hiiragi and sharp-featured Akamatsu are contrasted with the nerdy Kuroki and generic Katsura. Again, both groups have exceptions in the brutish Tachibana and the borderline Bishōnen Tokusa.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: In this story, every girls who has a crush on Hiiragi race against each other to make their own scarf and gloves to impress him on the Valentine's Day. Furthermore, Azami, Akane and Yuzuriha even goes too far by sabotaging the other girls' presents. However, everyone's efforts turn out to for naught, because Hiiragi already received the present from another girl from a different school, plus he doesn't like girls who destroy other people's presents. Moreover, the trio also gets confronted by the other girls for destroying their presents.
  • Shallow Cannot Comprehend True Love:
    • Yuri is a beautiful woman married to the ugly Tachibana, whose brother Tokusa is an attractive man. Yuri is pregnant and Tokusa's wife Yuzuriha assumes that the child is Tokusa's. Her "logic" for this assumption? Since Tachibana is ugly and Tokusa isn't, the only reason why Yuri married Tachibana is to get close to Tokusa and either steal him from Yuzuriha or have his baby.
      • Karin and Akamatsu, Tachibana's parents, had similar experiences, with people assuming that the only reason why Karin would marry the ugly Akamatsu is money. Karin's response?
        Karin: What money!?
    • Back in middle school, Tokusa had a crush on Yuzuriha, who rejected and mocked him for his childlike appearance. Tokusa eventually moved on and started dating Tsutsuji, who was kind to him and was also bullied for being unusually tall. During the middle school reunion, Yuzuriha learns that Tokusa has become handsome and rich, and tries to seduce him, assuming he still has a crush on her. When Tokusa rejects her and reveals he's engaged to Tsutsuji, Yuzuriha is confused and asks how he could like a "useless tree", failing to understand that Tokusa chose Tsutsuji because of her personality rather than her looks.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Tokusa and Akamatsu go to the secret hot springs after hearing about it from Tachibana. Soon, Azami, Akane and Yuzuriha joined them naked. The girls were very shameless at showing their goods especially Akane, who flashes anybody who passes by her. This dismayed Akamatsu since he was expecting the girls to be embarrassed of their nudity.
  • Shaming the Mob: In this video, the cherry blossom trees in Kuroki and Yuzuriha's garden are continuously exploited by Azami and Akane as a tourist attraction, as part of their own soba restaurant. When trees start dying, the couple see no point in keeping them up and cut them down. Azami and Akane promptly respond by rallying a crowd of dissatisfied customers to their doorstep to complain and demand the trees are replanted. When Kuroki tries and fails to make the crowd see reason, Yuzuriha steps up to deliver a blistering "Reason You Suck" Speech; she points out that the restaurant owners never paid any contribution to the trees they feel so entitled to, and if they had to rely on them so much to support their business, then their restaurant was never that good to begin with. The crowd disperses right after that. In the aftermath, the neighbourhood association finds the couple were not at fault, Akane's reputation goes down the drain, and the restaurant goes out of business entirely.
  • Shipper with an Agenda: Tachibana and Azami want Tsutsuji to get married with Kuroki because they want to get his family's money. Fortunately, Tsutsuji quickly tells Kuroki's parents about it. They eventually reflect on their actions and let the marriage keep going on without malicious intents.
  • Ship Tease: Surprisingly little, since the core cast are all simply actors telling self-contained stories and we generally only see them out-of-character during anniversary specials. However, Etra-chan is prone to pairing some characters up more frequently than others...
    • Katsura and Yuri get paired up a lot. If Yuri's boyfriend is an antagonist, she'll usually get together with Katsura at the end.
    • As a side-effect to both of them being the go-to cast members for cheating partners, Akamatsu and Akane sleep together a lot.
    • You'll generally see Tachibana paired up with either Yuri or Yuzuriha in each story, regardless of alignment.
    • If there's an episode where Yuzuriha is Happily Married to someone, chances are it's Kuroki.
    • Etra-chan typically defaults to casting Hiiragi and Azami whenever the story requires an elderly couple. Especially if they're antagonists.
    • In this episode, it's implied for Akamatsu and Tsutsuji (AKA) Kuroki. Here, Akamatsu develops a crush on his new coworker. After some initial shock from finding out Tsutsuji's true identity, he is pretty open minded towards Kuroki crossdressing and seems grateful that the latter opened him up to the world of it. He also still blushes a lot around Kuroki when he's in his Tsutsuji persona. Kuroki also seems overjoyed that Akamatsu doesn't mind his hobby.
  • Shoe Slap: Yuzuriha, who is a city official, throws her heel at the fleeing Azami, who was running away when she was being apprehended for threatening to bomb the city hall.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Sibling Murder: In this story, Yuzuriha kills her own twin sister by pushing her into the river because she can't stand being The Un-Favourite by her mother Azami, who favors her sister more over her.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Yuzuriha acts like a proper lady to most people, especially her husband Kuroki. However, she's actually very harsh and uses a lot of profanities while alone with her sister Karin. While Yuzuriha was giving birth to her child, she was unable to keep the "proper lady" façade by shouting profanities at her husband and the nurses due to the pain, causing Kuroki to leave the delivery room for a while. Even after the accidental reveal, she was able to keep her cover as a proper lady.
  • Skewed Priorities:
    • Akane is more worried about being seen in the car with her narcissistic boss Hiiragi and the two of them being mistaken as a couple than dying.
    • Azami was more concerned about her car window being broken than the fact that her two-year-old son was trapped in a locked car on a hot summer day and could have died from heatstroke had he not been rescued.
  • Ski-Resort Episode: Tokusa goes to a ski resort with Kuroki and Yuri. There, they find Akamatsu and his friends behaving obnoxiously.

However when Yuri vomited, Karin rushed her to the hospital and Dr. Katsura found a residue of the sleeping pills in Yuri's system. Hiiragi was arrested and Karin moved with Yuri away from their house.
  • Spanner in the Works: Kuroki and Tachibana fear that a local dog thief might end up targeting their own respective dogs, and become cautious as a result. Sure enough, Akamatsu comes along to steal Kuroki's golden retriever, only to spot Akane in the yard trying to get her game back from him. He then switches targets to Tachibana's dog, but then Kuroki hears voices outside his house and storms out with a shout, which then alerts Tachibana and results in him catching Akamatsu red-handed. All because Akane decided to tease a dog on the way home from work.
  • Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace: This happens several times and it's never a good thing when it does. This story in particular is notable for parodying the more positive media portrayals of this set up, while showing it from the perspective of the groom being left at the altar. Akane and Hiiragi are not helped in this instance by the fact that they'd only met mere days prior to the wedding.
  • Spoiled Brat: Has several examples of that. The most common characters to be portrayed like this are Akane, Hiiragi and Akamatsu.
  • Springtime for Hitler: Azami forged letters from Tokusa begging for food and posted them all over the neighborhood, hoping his neighbors would be disgusted by his stinginess and turn on him. Unfortunately for her, Tokusa is very well-liked among the neighbors and instead his family spends several weeks receiving free food from them.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Hiiragi and Yuzuriha are often casted in this role when they appear as the main antagonist.
  • Stalker without a Crush:
    • Two notable instances, both with Akane as the stalker.
      • Here, she stalks Tsutsuji with the intention to kill her because she thinks her husband Akamatsu was having an affair with her. In reality, Tsutsuji was just Akamatsu's teammate in an online game.
      • Here, she became envious of her friend Yuri after the latter met her husband Katsura on an airplane, due to riding Economy class while Akane got upgraded to Business. This led to Akane believing that everything Yuri got afterwards should be hers, eventually escalating to stalking Yuri at her house to take pictures of her property and posting them on social media to declare as much.
    • Azami was stealing vegetables from Tachibana's stand and Tsutsuji just so happened to be in the area. This leads to the Azami believing that Tsutsuji witnessed her crime and she begins stalking the latter to make sure that she isn't reporting it to the police.
  • Starving Student: Desperate to eat some decent food before his next pay day, Akamatsu decides to lie about his age to attend an obviously sketchy freshman welcoming party. Then once he eats his fill, the staff won't let him leave. It turns out that the DJ hosting the event was supposed to be doing an interview at a larger one, only for it to get cancelled the day before. Unable to come up with something else to do for their timeslot, Hiiragi and his crew haphazardly threw together their own party and broadcasted that instead.
  • Stealing the Credit: Hiiragi took credits for Katsura's works and also transferred him to a branch office with false rumors being spread to the employees of said branch. When the branch employees realize that Hiiragi lied about Katsura stealing other people's credits, Hiiragi is exposed and ends up getting demoted with nobody willing to help him, while Katsura gets a promotion and pay raise.
  • Stock Shoujo Bullying Tactics: Yuzuriha finds her desk being vandalized by Akane, who is a bully to her. She decides teach Akane a lesson by swapping her desk with Akane's to make Akane look like she was one who got bullied. Their teacher Hiiragi is concerned by this as he used to be bullied when he was a kid and considers bullies to be rotten-hearted people. Since Hiiragi is Akane's favorite teacher, she stops bullying Yuzuriha.
  • Stolen Credit Backfire: Akane tries to steal the credit for what Karin did to save Azami when she suddenly collapsed in public. As it turns out, when Akane approached Azami and claimed she was the one who saved her life instead of Karin, Azami wastes no time saying she is going to sue Akane for making her boyfriend break up with her because he thought she took off her shirt in public. Azami eventually finds out about her lies and Akane is now in a lot of trouble for the mess she made.
  • Stress Vomit: In '"I've been having an affair with your husband. Wanna grab some coffee?"' Kuroki is so disgusted by Akane's shameless reveal of her affair with Akamatsu he is about to vomit, but his butler, Tokusa, hurries for a nearby vase for Kuroki to expel it all out without making a mess.
  • Stupid Crooks:
    • Akamatsu and Hiiragi attempt to steal Tachibana's car so that they can sell it. However, they did so in broad daylight on a busy street in a neighborhood without bothering to conceal their faces. Tachibana lampshades how lousy they are and even comments about how they wouldn't be able to sell it anyway as it isn't in any of their names.
    • Azami tries to murder Tsutsuji in broad daylight to prevent her from testifying about her crime... of stealing vegetables from Tachibana, who barely cared about the price people paid for them as long as they paid something.
  • "Success Through Sex" Accusation:
    • Azami is envious of Yuri for the CEO's praise of her. In order to make Yuri look bad, Azami decides to tell the CEO a bunch of lies about Yuri, even going so far as to claim that Yuri gained business deals by sleeping with clients. The CEO is infuriated by Azami's claims and rips her a new one for harassing people rather than doing her job.
    • Akamatsu is a sexist office worker who thinks that women can only achieve success by seducing men. He claims that Karin, his coworker, and Yuzuriha, his manager, are more successful than him because they sleep and/or flirt with their clients. Karin and Yuzuriha give him a tongue-lashing, stating that he needs to improve his own skills rather than bad-mouth people, and Akamatsu eventually turns his attitude around.
    • Akamatsu is a misogynist who accuses Karin, Yuzuriha, and Azami, who are all wealthy, of being prostitutes under the "logic" that the only way a woman can be rich without relying on a man is sex-work. In actuality, they're doctors.
  • Suicidal "Gotcha!": Tachibana has had enough of Hiiragi mistreating him and his employees and decides to jump out of the window. It was just a trick to see how he would react. He really just landed on some construction scaffolding underneath the window and made his way back into the office.
  • Super Gullible: Yuzuriha easily convinces Akane into thinking she's her real mother in an attempt to kidnap her. When Akane sees her trying the same trick on Tsutsuji, she believes that she and Tsutsuji are sisters who were separated at birth.
  • Supporting Protagonist/Non P.O.V. Protagonist: Some stories are told from the perspective of someone who plays a supporting role to the actual protagonist of the story, or only really observes the situation from the sidelines and may not even know the full story of what happened until the actual protagonist explains their side of things.
  • Surprise Incest: Akamatsu has a crush on Akane, but later, it's revealed she's his long-lost sister.
  • Surprisingly Happy Ending: Akamatsu three-times his girlfriend Yuri with Akane and Yuzuriha, the latter of whom shows up at his apartment claiming to be pregnant with his child. Fearing Yuri's imminent wrath, he flees to an internet cafe where he has an encounter with a crazed Azami that results in his arrest. However despite his infidelity, Yuri still testifies on his behalf and Azami's mother shows up as well, clearing up the misunderstanding. The experience scares Akamatsu straight and he cleans up his act, Yuri forgives him for his cheating and their relationship is far more stable, and Yuzuriha's child turned out to be someone else's, tying up that loose end too. Oh, and Akane was cheating on her husband Tachibana the whole time, because what else is new?
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome:
    • Akane decides to break up with Akamatsu, who had recently become a single father, after he proposed to her because while she did love him and would love to become his son Katsura's mother, she knew it would require her to give up on her goals and dreams. Akamatsu holds no ill will towards her for this, even apologizing for taking advantage of her kindness.
    • When Yuzuriha runs off with his little brother Katsura, Kuroki tries throwing the shurikens he made at her. However, his attack is ineffective not only because he's a small child but also because the shurikens are made out of paper so they don't even go that far.
  • Survivor Guilt: Tsutsuji feels guilty because Yuri had sacrificed herself to save Tsutsuji's life from being hit by a truck, costing her own life. Tsutsuji later returns the favor by saving Yuri's daughter Karin from being hit by a car, fortunately, she recovers from it.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Sometimes the antagonist's Humiliation Conga gets so severe that even their victim(s) feel sorry for them.

  • Tampering with Food and Drink:
    • Akane served her husband, Kuroki, extremely salty food and threw temper tantrums whenever he refused to eat it or left some on the plate. Obviously, Kuroki suffered kidney failure and had to be hospitalized. However, this didn't stop Akane from serving him salty food while he was hospitalized, only for the nurse, Karin, to stop her and forbid her from doing so, even asking her if she is trying to kill him. After musing on what Karin said to her and finding out about Akane's affair with his coworker, Akamatsu, he realized she did really want to kill him. After he tells Akane's parents about what happened, Akane angrily revealed that the reason she wanted to kill him was all because he put a little soy sauce on curry that she made over a year ago, telling him that she hated him since that day and he really should have died when he was in the hospital. Afterwards, Akane was scolded and disowned by her parents for what she had done and Kuroki immediately divorced her, with Akane being forced to pay him consolation money.
    • Akamatsu invited Yuri out for dinner one day and attempted to slip what he had been told was a powerful aphrodisiac into her drink. Fortunately, it didn't work. She didn't even notice her drink was tampered with and didn't realize what he'd tried to do until she saw him confessing to having done it and complaining about it not working on his social media account the next day. She screenshotted the posts and went straight to their boss, getting him fired.
  • Teacher/Student Romance:

Hiiragi getting angry at the thought of going on more affordable dates and allowing Karin to pay for her own things was the final straw, and she broke up with him.
    • Hiiragi crashes another one of Kuroki's weddings, this time with Akane. Unlike the first story however, Akane actually agrees and runs off with him, abandoning Kuroki at the altar. It turns out that Akane had met Hiiragi only a few days prior and decided he was her "true love", running away with him while leaving behind a letter that Akamatsu found hilariously cheesy, while Kuroki found it utterly embarrassing. Naturally, a guy willing to steal someone else's bride wasn't the faithful sort and within a year Hiiragi cheated on Akane and the two divorced.
  • Threat Backfire:
    • Akamatsu and Azami threaten to disown Tokusa if he and his wife Karin don't apologize to them for making them miss the former's mother's funeral, even though they've been ignoring their phone calls. Tokusa doesn't care about being disowned at all, since he disliked their attidude since the beginning.

  • Too Proud for Lowly Work: Hiiragi is an arrogant law student who loves to brag about his educational status. He slacks off at his part-time job, with his excuse being that an educated man like him isn't suited for physical labor and that his boss should assign him more intellectual tasks.
  • Training from Hell: Tachibana puts Hiiragi through some intense baseball training.
  • Trauma Button: In this episode, Karin's loud snoring accidentally triggered Tachibana's trauma when he witnessed his brother Katsura being attacked by a dog when they were kids, because her snoring reminds him of the dog's barking.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Katsura caught his wife Akane having an affair with his company boss, Akamatsu as they came out of a hotel. When he calls her out for it, she blames it on him for not being able to satisfy her. The next day, Akamatsu fires Katsura out of spite to humiliate him before Akane marries the former. Even when Tokusa tries to cheer him up, Katsura decides to commit suicide in front of a truck two weeks later. When Katsura wakes up at a hospital with his mother and best friend by his side, his expression becomes dead-eyed as he plots revenge against Akane and Akamatsu.
  • Troll: Akamatsu calls Tokusa in the middle of night to pick him and his friends up because they were involved in a car accident, he also tells him that the police should not be called because they would be arrested for being under the influence.
