District 5

     Districtwide Tropes
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: District Five's tribute colour following the Reclamation is silver.
  • Hand Signals: District Five residents often go deaf from machinery noise so their children learn sign language in school.
  • Total Party Kill: None of the pre-Reclamation District Five Victors are alive by their arc's end.
    • Jason dies sometime before the 75th Hunger Games.
    • Ivette and James both die during the 75th Hunger Games.
    • Samuel and Porter are presumed to be dead by the end of the Second Rebellion.
Jason Jennings (20th Hunger Games Victor)
  • Acid Attack: He steals a shared water bottle from the Careers, fills it up with acid from the acidic rainfall, and returns it to them. He also pours acid on his opponents' heads before finishing them off with a knife after luring him to his tree trap.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: According to the first novel (which is set during the 74th Games), the Games in which the victor was a boy who scored a 3 in training took place "a few years ago", which would most likely place him somewhere between Finnick (victor of the 65th Games) and Annie (victor of the 70th Games) in terms of when he won. Jason meets the criteria of being a male victor who scored a 3 in training, but his Games take place nearly five decades before these events are implied to have happened in canon.
  • Alliterative Name: Jason Jennings.
  • Angry, Angry Hippos: Jason's arena is full of hippo mutts which are described as "angry". Jason uses the hippos as bait to lure his opponents to his hiding place so he can kill them.
  • Children Forced to Kill: Fourteen when he entered his Hunger Games.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: With his final opponent being an emaciated twelve-year-old, it was easy for him to drown him in the finale.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: He's not seen for the rest of the series following his Hunger Games, but it's heavily implied that he mentored Samuel. The visual of the District Five reapings for the 75th Hunger Games has his name struck out, showing that he passed away after his Hunger Games.
  • Doomed by Canon: He's one of the sixteen victors who passes away before the 75th Hunger Games.
  • Guile Hero: Jason's strategy during his Hunger Games. He poisoned all four Careers before managing to lure an unspecified number of tributes to his hiding place using the hippos, before severely injuring and killing them.
  • In-Universe Nickname: He's known as "acid boy" following his Hunger Games.
  • Kill Tally: Five tributes - both District One tributes, both Two tributes, and District Seven boy (Twiggy). He also killed an unspecified number of tributes from his hippo trap.
  • O.C. Stand-in: In The Hunger Games, Katniss mentions a male Victor who scored a 3. The historian chronicling Jason's Hunger Games also mentions that he received a 3 as his training score, the lowest training score of any Victor.
Samuel von Altergott (32nd Hunger Games Victor)
  • Children Forced to Kill: Seventeen when he enters his Hunger Games.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Didn't struggle tracking down and killing his remaining opponents upon making it to the final three. Justified because he's the only tribute with a weapon.

  • Kill Tally: Six tributes - the entire career pack, a District Seven tribute (Dorcus), and a District Ten tribute (Baccali)
  • One Hit Poly Kill: Kills the entire career pack at once from throwing conductive rocks at their feet, which electrocuted them when struck by lighting.

  • Kill Tally: One tribute - District Six girl (Nebraska)
  • Mayincatec: Porter's arena takes place in "Incan trails", heavily implied to be a replica of the Machu Picchu.
  • O.C. Stand-in: She isn't mentioned in the books or the films, but has made an appearance on the now-defunct Capitol Couture website as a past Victor who received a broken neck from a spinal injury during the final showdown. Christian also uses her picture when chronicling her Hunger Games.
James Logan (49th Hunger Games Victor)
  • The Alcoholic: James becomes one after exiting the arena according to the historian narrating his Hunger Games.
  • Children Forced to Kill: Sixteen when he enters his first Hunger Games.
  • Bee-Bee Gun: James traps some of the arena's bees in a bag using a fruit peel as a bait, which he then shakes to agitate them and leave in front of unsuspecting tributes. James also creates a "wired box" that he throws at Rex during the finale.
  • Kill Tally: Nine confirmed kills - District Twelve girl (Agnes), District Two boy (Rex), and seven unnamed tributes.
  • O.C. Stand-in: He's the District Five male tribute of the 75th Hunger Games who's killed by Finnick at the start of the cornucopia bloodbath. Christian also uses a picture of his actor to depict him in the video.
Ivette Li (57th Hunger Games Victor)
  • Chekhov's Classroom: During training, she spends most of her time in the survival station so she can observe the other tributes' strengths and weaknesses without drawing attention to herself. It helps her in-arena because she recognized a crab as poisonous from her training.
  • Children Forced to Kill: Fifteen when she enters her first Hunger Games.
  • Giant Wall of Watery Doom: Both of her Hunger Games arenas feature tsunamis. She manages to survive the two tsunamis in her first Hunger Games, but doesn't survive the one during the 75th Hunger Games.
  • Kill Tally: Six confirmed kills - both District Two tributes (Pius and Hypatia), District Eleven boy (Pecan), District Twelve boy (Sergio), both District Four tributes (Carrie and Monroe)
  • O.C. Stand-in: She's the District Five female tribute of the 75th Hunger Games who drowns in the tidal wave. Christian also uses a picture of her actress, Ivette Li-Sanchez to depict her in the account.
  • Self-Poisoning Gambit: Ivette drinks some of the poisoned water to not look suspicious in front of the District Four tributes. She quickly excuses herself once she drinks it to purge the poison out of her.
  • Sneak Attack: Part of Ivette's strategy throughout the Hunger Games. She attacks her first three victims from behind, finishing them off through a stab to either the back of their neck or their head.
  • Tampering with Food and Drink: Ivette squeezes as much poisonous crab venom as she could into the District Four tributes' water bottle.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Ivette develops a severe aquaphobia after she leaves the arena. Justified because she dealt with two tsunamis during her time.
Linnet Laurier (82nd Hunger Games Victor)

  • Tuckerization: Linnet got her last name from Lauren "Laurier-Rose", a friend of Christian who has contributed heavily to the TOTHG fandom. Some of her known accomplishments include managing the TOTHG Discord server, creating Victory Tour posters for Christian's characters, and helping write the respective plots for the 82nd and 91st Hunger Games.

    • Solina has one direct kill (Nucleana) officially tied to her name. Three if Becquerelle and Nucleana's deaths count.

  • Spin-Offspring: Both Flux and Gravito are implied to be descendants of James Logan.
  • Static Stun Gun: Three of the identical-looking sticks are revealed to be tasers by Rubius. Solina uses one of them on Becquerelle and Mechano, while Flux tases himself in the head so he doesn't have to kill his twin brother, Gravito.

Justin Hix (61st Hunger Games Victor)
Madison Hawker (85th Hunger Games Victor)

  • Foreshadowing: During the 94th Hunger Games, Madison discovered that Asha has been giving Maryland morphling. She's told by the peacekeepers as a collective that there's nothing they can do as tributes are mentors' responsibilities. However, a peacekeeper quietly suggested that she could "return the favour". During the 95th Hunger Games,it was discovered that itching powder was placed on the bedsheets of all four District Seven tributes. • Urban Ruins: Tiffany's arena takes place in the ruins of the Empire State Building.
Casco Astriana (98th Hunger Games Victor)

  • Boulder Bludgeon: Clara's kills relied on stones for both beating and throwing.
  • Chainsaw Good:
    • The weapons featured in the duo's District Hunger Games are chainsaws that appear to run on unlimited (or at least a long-lasting) battery power. Tobe uses it as his weapon to earn his moniker of "The Chain Slayer".

  • Children Forced to Kill: Seventeen and thirteen respectively when they entered Hunger Games.
  • Eye Scream:
    • Clara throws a stone at Tobe's right eye during the final battle. Capitol medics can't decide if his eye is indeed damaged and his injuries cell for his row in the District Victors spreadsheet says "Possibly damaged".

  • In-Universe Nickname: Tobe and Clara are known as "The Chain Slayer" and "Stone Sister" respectively.

  • Children Forced to Kill: Seventeen when he enters his Hunger Games.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: He isn't mentioned again throughout most of the pre-Reclamation arc, although it's heavily implied that he mentored Bluebell to victory. The visual of the District Eleven reapings for the 75th Hunger Games confirms that he's still alive.
  • Kill Tally: At least four kills - District Ten boy (Sherlock) and three unnamed tributes part of the group massing together at the end of a tunnel corridor. He also killed an unspecified amount of tributes within the first five minutes.
Bluebell Janssen (21st Hunger Games Victor)
  • 100% Heroism Rating: Beloved in the Capitol that it saves her life thrice. First during the 75th Quarter Quell when Seeder is reaped over her; second after a group of fans hid her and her family in a bunker during the Second Rebellion; and third when the Reclaimers spare her after they take over Panem (although another reason is due to her advanced age).
  • Amusement Park of Doom: Bluebell's arena takes place in a theme park with collapsing rides and speedy jaguars.
  • Biopic:
    • A movie is made after her life after she passes away, titled, Legs Eleven.
    • Bluebell also starred in a President Snow film that was released around the time of the 75th Hunger Games, playing the role of his grandmother.
  • Children Forced to Kill: Seventeen when she enters her Hunger Games.
  • Improvised Weapon: Bluebell uses a roller coaster chain to whip Silico's eyes before pushing him off the roller coaster.

  • Murderous Thighs: Bluebell uses her legs when choking Quagmire to death during sex, making it one of the most iconic kills in the history of the Hunger Games.
  • Sole Survivor: Downplayed. She's the only Victor in her district who's alive by the end of the Reclamation arc. Justified because the Capitol pardoned her.
  • Passed in Their Sleep: This was how Bluebell passed away following the 83rd Hunger Games.
  • The Shut-In: Bluebell becomes this at the time of the 83rd Hunger Games. She relies on video chat to relay her message to both Easter and Pandorea before they enter the arena. Justified because she is in poor health and bedridden.
  • Silver Fox: The Capitol described to be this during the reapings for the 75th Hunger Games.
Narrator: "Almost all eyes were transfixed by Bluebell Creed (formerly Janssen), who stood amongst the crowd and even her fellow victors, in a long flowing blue dress with bluebells running through her hair. Even at the age of 71, she was still the definition of grace and beauty."
  • Talent Show: Bluebell participates in the Victor Extravaganza Talent Show during the 50th Hunger Games, where she performed a comedically choreographed song about her Hunger Games, complete with dancing Victors playing her opponents which she pretended to strangle.

  • Doomed by Canon: When Katniss and Peeta are watching the tapes of the living past Victors while preparing for the 3rd Quarter Quell, they notice the absence of his tape.

  • Kill Tally: Two confirmed kills - District Six boy (Lincoln) and District Two boy (Cirro)
  • Unknown Relative: Geranio chooses to withhold his daughter's name to the public, even though the Capitol wouldn't reap her due to her Capitolian heritage. Justified because Victors tend to be constantly in the spotlight.
  • Uptown Girl: Geranio later on marries a granddaughter of Bluebell Janssen, while he originally comes from a working class background after his parents were arrested.
Easter Rollix (83rd Hunger Games Victor)
  • The Alcoholic: He becomes one by the time of the 92nd Hunger Games, where Bloom can smell the whisky on his breath. Justified due to the stress of mentoring and watching children die.

  • Kill Tally: Three tributes - both District One tributes (Carat and Soliris) and her district partner Bloom.
  • Little Miss Badass: She manages to carry a log to make a piranha pit and kill two ‘’Careers’’ with it, make it to the final two along with her district partner, and kill him easily with an axe to his head.
  • Piranha Problem: The piranhas in the arena are aggressive enough to bite a tribute to death. Delphine takes advantage of their aggressiveness to corral them into a “pen” made from three logs and a few drops of her blood. The pit saves Delphine’s life after the District One tributes fall into it while trying to chase her.
  • Younger Mentor, Older Disciple: Delphine is sometimes assumed to be this between the 93rd and the 96th Hunger Games due to both her age of victory and the typical age of reaped tributes.

Christian: Unknown, but all presumed to be fine 😎
Lucy Gray Baird (10th Hunger Games Victor)
  • Adapted Out: The historian chronicling Lucy's Hunger Games did not mention Snow's involvement in helping Lucy win, instead saying that she sang to the snakes and that Reaper died from alleged poisoning. • Doomed by Canon: She disappears following her Hunger Games.
  • Kill Tally: Three confirmed tributes just like in the canon - Wovey, Treech, and Reaper.
