Class 1-A

    In General

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade:
    • The USJ incident proves a lot more traumatic for 1-A as a whole thanks to the presence of Argonaut and Paxton's robots. In addition to said robots leaving a good chunk of the class covered in scars from being cut, many of the students had to witness the robots massacring the League's mooks first hand, some even trying and failing to save some of them. Add on the injuries dealt to Kaina and Snipe, Denki losing an eye, and Anan's death, and the class is left heavily traumatized as a result. Nezu in turn decides to have all of the class receive mandatory therapy.
    • Following their encounter with Zaraba, the Heretic managed to leave its mark on all of their souls, damaging it to different extents, Izumi the least affected due to "One For All" protecting her soul, Ochaco the most since she was Zaraba's target. While the damage can be mitigated and the spread stopped by soothing the souls, they now all feel as if a part of them has been taken and forever lost to them now, and have the fear they felt while facing Zaraba etched into their very beings.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: In the aftermath of Zaraba's attack on them, which resulted in their souls getting damaged, they are all shown to be very resistant to getting afraid. This is best shown when Zorin uses her Quirk on them to train them; despite being subjected to horrific illusions meant to send them panicking, they all act nonchalant about the whole thing, leading Zorin to wonder what the hell happened to make them like this.
  • Dark Secret: Following their facing Zaraba controlling Flect Turn, its revealed many of them are hiding one, which Zaraba reveals to try and break apart their solidarity. While several of them are just their insecurities like Momo's fear she's only in UA cause of her parents money or Tenya thinking he'll never live up to Tensei, the others have some legitimate secrets hidden. Aside from Izumi's possessing One For All and having been Driven to Suicide, Durandal possessing a Quirk Emulator and being built by Paxton, and Ochaco being half-Sematick. Several of them are also retroactively shown to be inaccurate, like Denki's and Himiko's.:
    • Originally, Himiko's was just her issues with blood, instead her's is that she thought she killed her biological parents so she could drink their blood.
    • Hitoshi's is that, despite the claim that it was the fault of a Pro-Hero drunk driving, he is the reason his mother is stuck in a coma.
    • Neito's is that he on some level hates Izumi for getting a Quirk.
    • Denki's is that he thought he cheated on UA's written exam.
    • Tsuyu's is that she doesn't have to fight her urge to eat flesh, she does so because she hates that she likes to eat raw meat.
    • Hanta's is that he's the son of a psychopath and changed his name to distance himself from them.
    • Koji's is that his insect phobia stems more from being afraid of what the bugs tell him to do.
    • Kyoka's is that her Quirk has made her aware of everyone's secrets already.
    • Yui's is that she can use her Quirk on people, but doesn't after she ended up killing her parents using it.
    • Mina's is that her inability to confess to Eijiro is due to her not wanting to reveal her love for eating rotten meat.
    • Fumikage's is that his chuunibiyou behavior is meant to mask his shame for something from his past.
    • Eijiro's is that he's fully aware Mina is in love with him, but can't bring himself to tell her that he's gay.
    • Rikido's is that he's hypoglycemic thanks to his father, and that his issues with his Quirk stems from that since his mother had a similar Quirk but lacks his drawbacks, leading to Rikido hating his father.
    • Mei's is that she wishes her birth mother was still alive and considers Kaina a "fake" mother.
    • Chiharu's is that she, on some level, knows her father was a horrible person, but refuses to believe it.
  • Divided We Fall:
    • Heavily Downplayed overall. Zaraba revealed their dark secrets to each other with the intent of dividing the group so they'd stop interfering with his attempts at taking Ochaco's body. For the most part however, their bond remains as strong as ever, the group solidifying themselves as True Companions and refusing to turn their backs on one another, most evident after Ochaco reveals her being a Half-Human Hybrid to them, and they make clear they'd never abandon her. That being said, there is some minor tension, in that most of them aren't ready yet to reveal more about their secrets in full.
    • Played straight regarding Izumi and Hitoshi's friendship with Neito. Following the reveal of Neito secretly being The Resenter towards Izumi, there was some notable tension between him and Hitoshi, and when Neito tried to get his issues off his chest with them in private, thinking it could allow them to work through it and go back to normal, he accidentally causes Misery Poker and makes Izumi break down and reveal her suicide attempt. While he quickly realizes he screwed up, Hitoshi tells him to Get Out! before anything else, and while Izumi tells Hitoshi not to blame Neito, it's clear their friendship is all but shattered.
  • Intoxication Ensues: In order to soothe their souls after Zaraba's attack, they're subjected to a method that, while it heals them, leaves them as if they were high as a kite for about an hour. Mei has to be locked in a study room with only writing utensils, paper, and a single light due to being too hyper and wanting to invent things; Ochaco is left floating and vibing; Toru becomes visible for some reason; Rikido is found making something with way too much sugar on it; Minoru is bouncing around the room as if he were a pinball; Tsuyu is left sitting in the sink as if it were a bath; and Fumikage is found huddled in the corner talking in slang. And those are just the mild examples, as Eri later has to tell Inko that Izumi vibrated through a wall, and Kaina has to stop her from trying to fly into orbit using "Float", requiring Shota and Toshinori's help just to stop her from doing it again or vibrating through the floor.
  • Out of Focus: Played with. While the Snuggle Squad functions as the main characters of the fic, the other members of 1-A still get focus themselves, even if not to the same degree as the Snuggle Squad, such as Neito, Hitoshi, Denki, Kyoka, and Mina. That being said, some of the members are still left by the wayside, especially when compared to their canon depictions, namely Tenya, Eijiro, and Inasa.
  • Scars Are Forever: Following the USJ, half of 1-A end up getting scars across their body from facing an Avalon Strider Robot and being cut by their blades. Mina got one on her leg, Yui got one on her hand, Kyoka got one across her forearm, Eijiro and Tenya's bodies are littered with them, and Denki has one across the socket of the eye he lost.
    Neito Monoma — Phantom Thief
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/neito_monoma_anime.png
Click here to see him as Phantom Thief

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Thanks to having Izumi as a positive influence on him and being in Class 1-A this time, Neito is a lot kinder and supportive of others from the outset, something that was restricted to Hidden Depths in canon due to his hatred of 1-A overshadowing most of his character there. This gets downplayed with the reveal that he secretly hates Izumi on some level after she got her Quirk, falling in line with his canon resentment for those are naturally able to fit the role of a "main character" unlike himself, he just doesn't broadcast it like his canon self would, his attempt at Misery Poker even falling in line with how his canon self prodded at others insecurities to get a reaction out of them.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Following their first Modern Hero Art History class with Nemuri and his being unfazed by her behavior, many of his classmates ask Neito how he was Not Distracted by the Sexy when even Tenya was. Neito simply responds that he's not attracted to women, but doesn't elaborate further. He later clarifies when it looks like Pixie-Bob is trying to flirt with him that he is indeed gay.
  • Groin Attack: An unintentional victim of it. It's a Running Gag that, somehow, whenever Momo has a beanbag or something of the sort ready to fire, she will accidentally end up nailing Neito in the crotch, much to his frustration and Momo's frantic apologies.
  • Misery Poker: In a worked up state, Neito tries playing this with Izumi, saying he knew exactly what she went through since he was treated as if he was Quirkless too. This works Izumi up into such a rage that she lets slip all she suffered, including that she was Driven to Suicide, before breaking down in front of him. While he realized he fucked up, Hitoshi tells him to Get Out! before he can risk making things worse.
  • Not Distracted by the Sexy: On the first full day of classes, everyone in 1-A, even usually stiff Tenya, is heavily distracted during Nemuri's Modern Hero Art History class due to her appearance and demeanor. Neito is the only exception, and when Mina asks how he could be so calm during all that, he tells it's because he's not sexually attracted to women. He's likewise not as freaked out as everyone else when they learn Nemuri will be teaching them Sexual Education next week.
  • The Resenter: His Dark Secret that Zaraba reveals is that he, on some level, hates Izumi ever since she got a Quirk, falling in line with his canon characterization of resenting those that are naturally "main characters". Considering the amount of care he demonstrates for her in the present, it's clear he doesn't hate her entirely, demonstrating a large amount of concern and protectiveness towards her, but the idea she was being trained by several Pro-Heroes from the start while he was left The Underdog ended up causing him to resent her, made worse when he learned about One For All, to the point he even invoked Misery Poker and downplayed her own trauma by claiming he knew what it was like to be treated as if he was Quirkless.
    Hitoshi Shinso — Mindjack
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hitoshi.png
Click here to see him as Mindjack

  • Adaptation Name Change: Played with. In canon, Hitoshi doesn't have a Hero Name, as even after he secured a spot in the Hero Course, the war with the Paranormal Liberation Front occurred in the middle of his training, meaning he didn't have the luxury of picking one out in time for the second round of the war. Here, Hitoshi being in the Hero Course from the start means he can choose one, picking the name "Mindjack".
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: With Izumi being his first friend, not thinking his Quirk is "villainous", and making him realize he'd need more than just his Quirk if he wanted to pass the Entrance Exam, Hitoshi becomes much more friendly and mellow, if a bit snarky still.
  • Covert Pervert: Hitoshi secretly has a pin-up poster of Germany's Number 2 Hero "Sukkubus" on his door, admitting to having an "appreciation" for her Quirk making her a Cat Girl.
  • Incredibly Lame Pun: Following his Internship with Ms. Joke, Hitoshi has learned to weaponize these, making groan worthy puns, jokes, and cringe-level memes to trick people into reacting to him, allowing him to trap them in his Quirk. As one of his puns was enough to make even All Might groan, the rest of his class is rightfully terrified of him now.
    Hitoshi: Fear me.
Mina: He has become too strong for this world.
  • Parental Abandonment: Downplayed. The reason he's forced to stay in a foster home is that, while his parents are alive and love him, his father is a full time engineer for the JSDF, and his mother is in a coma, leaving him with no one to care for him.
    Tenya Iida — Reciprocator
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tenya_6.png
Click here to see him as Reciprocator

  • Adaptation Name Change: With Tensei still active as a Hero and retaining the name "Ingenium", Tenya chooses the name "Reactive Hero: Reciprocator".
  • Demoted to Extra: Downplayed. While he's still part of Class 1-A and has somewhat of a presence, his overall role is greatly diminished compared to canon. His clearing up any misunderstandings with Izumi earlier than canon combined with Izumi already having friends before going to UA means the two aren't as close as in canon (not even being in her friend group), the break-in by the press goes a lot differently meaning Izumi is never incentivized to give up her representative position to him, he doesn't make it to the third round of the Sports Festival, and Tensei isn't crippled by Stain meaning he has no reason to go on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge in Hosu.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Played for Laughs, as Pringles of all things clog his engines. While this wouldn't be an issue normally since he could just ignore them, he has a bit of an addiction towards them, having eaten three cans worth while out shopping for snacks for Izumi's belated birthday party.
Tenya: I am a weak man, Rikido!
    Rikido: For Pringles?
Tsu: Didn’t you say that Pringles can mess up your engines?
Tenya: That they can! Doesn’t stop me from eating them!
    Eijiro Kirishima — Red Riot
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eijiro.png
Click here to see him as Red Riot

  • Adaptational Sexuality: In canon, his sexuality is unspecified, but he receives a decent amount of Ship Tease with Mina, and his relationship with Bakugo could easily be seen as being Ship Tease too. Here, his Dark Secret revealed by Zaraba is that he's gay, but is aware of Mina being in love with him but can't bring himself to tell her that. With it out in the open, he later admits via the class chat that he's in a relationship with Tetsutetsu.
  • Demoted to Extra: A good amount of Eijiro's focus in canon before the Shie Hassakai arc was based on his being the closest thing Katsuki had to a "friend" in the class. With Katsuki being in 1-B this time, and not really being close to Izumi yet, he doesn't get that much focus here, not helped by his losing the tiebreaker match against Tetsutetsu here.
  • Honor Before Reason: Eijiro believes in fighting the "manly" way, charging headfirst with his strength and taking hits head on, while hating the idea of using stealth. This screws him over during the Final Exams however, as Yawara Chatora/Tiger is able to dodge all his attacks with his "Pliabody" Quirk. While he could have still passed had he dragged Rikido with him to the gate and escaped, his stubborn refusal to do so out of considering it cowardly just results in him failing the exam.
  • Straight Gay: With his constant talk of things being "manly" and Hot-Blooded demeanor, it came as a surprise to others, Mina in particular since she was crushing on him, that he's actually gay. As he put it himself, he just never had any attraction to girls.
    Mina Ashido — Venus
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mina_ashido_full_body_school_uniform_4.png
Click here to see her as Venus

  • Adaptation Name Change: After her initial choice of "Alien Queen" is shot down, Mina goes with Ochaco's suggestion of "Acid Hero: Venus" instead of her canon choice "Pinkie".
  • Adaptation Species Change: In canon, she's a pure blood human, with her appearance owed to a Mutation Quirk. Here, she's a Half-Human Hybrid, her appearance owed to her being an albino "Fensia", a race of moth women and carrion eaters from the same planet as the Cardrians.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Mina occasionally shows hints of being bisexual, remarking how cute Izumi and Ochaco are together only to admit she's more interested in boys, having a crush on Eijiro, but being just as Distracted by the Sexy as the Snuggle Squad when seeing Ochaco and Izumi's new costumes. She drops the ambiguous part when she admits to Eijiro she is bisexual and polyamorous.
  • Cannot Spit It Out:
    • Despite her crush on Eijiro, she can't bring herself to tell him, largely due to fear of his reaction for her love of eating rotten flesh.
    • Subverted regarding Izumi and Ochaco. While she does find them attractive and is entirely open to being in a polyamorous relationship, she can already tell the entire "Snuggle Squad" is a polycule waiting to happen, and already has 10 members in it, so she has no desire to force her way into it when they're already developed feelings for each other, even if they don't realize it.
  • Doorstep Baby: She admits to the rest of the class that she doesn't know her biological parents, but was found wrapped in a blanket made from leather. Human leather, which authorities believe to have been made from the skin of her biological father. These details remind Izumi about the various species from the same planet as the Cardrians, and when she goes to check her notebook on it, Mina catches her and quickly learns she might in fact be a Fensia Half-Human Hybrid, something Melissa confirms after she properly meets Mina, her mother likely being from the small colony some Fensia set up in Japan, though Melissa notes the idea of a Fensia ever willingly giving up their child when they are normally mama bears is unusual.
  • Freakiness Shame: Her Dark Secret is that she loves to eat rotten human flesh, but is ashamed of revealing it to others after being treated poorly at the care home she was left at. When she decides to explain to everyone about it further, she explains its not a dietary requirement or anything, she's just drawn to the smell and taste, and while the Ashido's were accepting of her, she still hid it from others out of fear of being ostracized. Melissa explains its because Fensia, her biological race, are carrion eaters/scavengers.
  • Incompatible Orientation: While she's in love with Eijiro even if she can't admit it, her chances with him are zero due to him being gay.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Subverted. According to Melissa, she's supposed to have two sets of arms as a result of her Fensia heritage, but for some reason is lacking them. Melissa theorizes she may be an Uneven Hybrid, her human DNA outweighing her Fensia DNA, resulting in her being born with only a single pair of arms.
    Denki Kaminari — Chargebolt
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/denki_8.png
Click here to see him as Chargebolt

  • Cheaters Never Prosper: Subverted. Denki thought he cheated on the written portion of the UA Entrance Exam to get in, and no one found out until Zaraba exposed his Dark Secret. Turns out, Nezu knew all along, and he didn't punish Denki because he didn't actually cheat. Denki had thought he paid someone to use an intelligence boosting Quirk on him, but it actually just boosted his confidence, so his answers were entirely his own.
  • Disabled in the Adaptation: Denki ends up losing an eye following the USJ, necessitating he get an artificial eye and take some time off so that his body doesn't reject it.
  • Eye Scream: Denki has his right eye cut out by an Avalon Strider Robot at the USJ, necessitating it be replaced with an artificial eye.
  • Heroic Lineage: Denki comes from a family of heroes here, his mother being the hero "Thundershock", his first cousin being Germany's Number 1 "Blitz", and his second cousin being a leading member of Germany's "Millennium Academy".
    Kyoka Jiro — Earphone Jack
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kyoka_0.png
Click here to see her as Earphone Jack

  • Deadpan Snarker: She's just as snarky as ever, her first person perspective even demonstrating she's snarky with herself.
  • Demoted to Extra: Played with. In the original version of the fic, Kyoka was made into the unwilling host of Kuin Hachisuka, the two entering a symbiotic relationship and Kyoka retaining full control of her body, but having lost an eye in the process. While this did seem to be setup for increased focus on her, META2012 admitted they couldn't figure out where to take the plot thread from there. Part of the rewrite in turn had that detail removed, leaving Kyoka at her original level of relevance, while Kuin Hachisuka found a different host, implied to be Chikuchi Tokeige.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: Her jacks are hyper sensitive to sound, meaning, even if she doesn't mean to most of the time, she can overhear people talking from a great distance. While this can be helpful for hearing conversations from a distance like pre-fight banter during the Sports Festival, it can also lead to cases of Too Much Information, such as her overhearing Bunny's "relationships" with Nemuri, Yu, and Konako. Her Dark Secret actually ties into this, as Zaraba reveals that, because of her jacks, she already knew most of her classmates own secrets.
  • Freudian Slip: She's the one who lets slip to the class chat that she and Denki had a Relationship Upgrade, namely after learning Gran Torino would be teaching the Heroics Class the day he was to come back from sick leave, and asking Kaina to not let Gran Torino hurt her boyfriend too much.
  • It's All My Fault: She blames herself for Denki losing an eye due to having pushed him into the villains to act as a human taser like canon, leaving him close enough to the Avalon Strider Robot to slice out his eye.
    Inasa Yoarashi — Gale Force
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/inasayoarashi.png
As Gale Force

  • Adapted Out: Since he's not attending Shiketsu here, his costume lacks the schools cap.
  • Ascended Extra: Downplayed. Due to the Todoroki subplot being Adapted Out, Inasa lacked a reason to turn down his recommendation to UA, taking the spot Shoto canonically had. However, he is still one of the students in 1-A with the least focus.
  • Hot-Blooded: Inasa is very energetic and excitable, to the point he regularly greets people by bowing so low and fast that his head crashes into the ground, not even caring about the blood flowing down his head. He does it so often Momo quickly prepared pillows to be thrown down where his head would connect with the ground so he'll stop hurting himself, and started doing this shortly after meeting him.
Fumikage Tokoyami & Dark Shadow — Tsukuyomi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fumikageanddarkshadow.png
Click here to see them as Tsukuyomi

Tropes pertaining to both:

  • Mysterious Past: Both of them are somehow familiar with Camie prior to attending UA. Neither are exactly enthused when they realize she's in their sister class, as while they consider her nice, she can be exhausting.
  • Odd Friendship: Both have managed to strike up friendships with those most wouldn't expect them to.
    • Following their teaming up for the Sports Festival, Fumikage has begun to hang out with Inasa more often, whereas Inasa a Hot-Blooded Boisterous Bruiser, Fumikage is a brooding loner.
    • Dark Shadow quickly struck up a friendship with Durandal who, at the time, was a sociopathic Robot Dog who cared for little outside of Izumi and those she cared about.

Tropes exclusive to Dark Shadow:

  • Gender Flip: Downplayed. Canonically, Dark Shadow is genderless, being a Living Shadow and all, but is identified with male pronouns.* Here, Dark Shadow is explicitly considered female.
  • Honorary True Companion: While not actually a student of Class 1-A, she's considered just as much a member as Fumikage thanks to being his Quirk, even having her own account in the group chat and regularly seeking acknowledgement from the others.
  • Troll: Dark Shadow loves to screw with others, whether it be Fumikage regarding memes or repeating things ad nauseum, or scaring the shit out of people during training exercises.
    Yui Kodai — Rule
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yui_kodai_anime.png
Click here to see her as Rule

  • Fangirl: She's a massive fan of Tokusatsu style shows, and ignores most media that doesn't fall under that umbrella, much to Ochaco's dismay upon learning she's never seen Star Wars. It takes Hitoshi telling her they made a Tokusatsu version of the original trilogy for her to be interested in seeing it.
  • Shrinking Violet: Yui doesn't talk that much, largely due to being cripplingly shy and afraid of talking to others. She's much more talkative in the girl's chat, where she admits to nearly having a panic attack just from the thought of talking to her crush Hitoshi.
    Koji Koda — Anima
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/koji_koda_full_body_uniform.png
Click here to see him as Anima

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: In canon, Koji's issue with insects was simply entomophobia, and something he was able to work towards dealing with during the Final Exams. Here, his fear of insects stem from his being able to understand them with his Quirk, and being terrified at what they try telling him to do.
  • Adaptational Badass: He is elevated to a Bruiser with a Soft Center, being the one to deliver the finishing blow to the Avalon Strider Robot at the USJ, and making it to the second match of the third round by beating Tsuyu.
    Hanta Sero — Cellophane
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hanta_sero_full_body_uniform_9.png
Click here to see him as Cellophane

  • Adaptational Name Change: In canon, "Hanta Sero" is by all accounts his real name. Here, its revealed via Zaraba that it's only an alias, and that he changed his original name so as to distance himself from his psychopathic parent.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Before his Identity Breakdown, Hanta was the one largely tasked with keeping Minoru in line with the girls, typically via threatening to tape his mouth shut. He was also the only one to even show the barest of concern about Minoru's depression following said Identity Breakdown.
  • Fanboy: His Asian styled room is given Adaptation Expansion here by showing he's a major fanboy of traditional Asian décor and swords, including having a Wakizashi in his room that he ends up going into great detail about when Kyoka mistakes it for a Katana. Izumi outright compares it to how she fangirls about heroes.
  • Only Sane by Comparison: He can be just as eccentric as the rest of his classmates, but more often than not he's the one playing the Straight Man to their antics and the one questioning things going on.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: During a practice match, Hanta comes across Izumi scissoring Momo with her thighs, Hanta initially all set to come to Momo's aid. Then he sees Izumi sporting a Slasher Smile highly reminiscent of Mirko, and proceeds to bolt.
    Minoru Mineta — Grape Juice
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minoru_30.png
Click here to see him as Grape Juice

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Played with. At first, he was a lot like his canon characterization, being a massive pervert with no filter. During the Sports Festival however, he suffers an Identity Breakdown upon realizing how much the girls hate him and how his behavior isn't as innocuous as he thought. This prompts him to start seeking therapy with Hound Dog, learn how to control his impulses and keep his perversion to himself, and apologize to the girls and in turn be given a chance at being a better person.
  • Adapted Out: Played with. At first, Minoru's costume did have the bowl-esq accessory, but Minoru decided to remove it following his Internship, partly due to everyone else saying it looked like a diaper.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: When Zaraba attacks and immobilizes the class at the joint training camp, Minoru is the only one he fails to reveal a Dark Secret about due to his past behavior already being his worst. As a result, Minoru, despite nearly crapping his pants, tells him off for being too cowardly to probe deeper into his mind, the rest of the class astonished that he's able to stand up to the stuff of nightmares like that, Denki even name dropping the trope.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Subverted. Minoru liked to think he had standards that separated him from the average pervert. Following his Identity Breakdown however, he came to realize he only ever had one standard, not lusting after married women, and that he didn't even follow that standard since he still enjoyed "private time" with pictures of married Pros like Ms. Joke and Uwabami. Said realization just ends up furthering his breakdown and all but gives him flat out depression.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Deconstructed. The guys tolerate him at best, but the girls absolutely hate his guts, most evident with Momo and Tsuyu, largely due to his open perversion and lack of boundaries making them uncomfortable. During the Sports Festival, he overhears Izumi, Ochaco, and Tsuyu admit just how much they despise him and wish he'd either be kicked out or just drop out. Minoru was genuinely unaware of how his behavior affected them, thinking it was innocuous, and is left so depressed by this and the idea his class hates him that he forfeits his match with Izumi immediately so he can suffer an Identity Breakdown in private. This just makes everyone think he was a Dirty Coward who should have dropped out of the Sports Festival before the finals so someone else could take his spot, most of them not really caring about why he was acting weird and more just pissed they didn't get to watch Izumi punt him into a wall, and it just makes him feel Tsuyu was right about him being useless. Minoru is left sullen overall, and considers seeking therapy with Hound Dog. Even after the Sports Festival, the only thought his classmates spare for him is confusion over his sudden forfeit, and bemusement over the fact he wasn't involved in the attempt to trick the girls to dress like cheerleaders. After he apologizes to them and makes clear he is trying to improve as a person, they're willing to forgive him and hope he does better, even if still not fully liking him.
  • Not Me This Time: When the girls are nearly tricked into putting on cheerleader outfits by who they think is Nemuri, Tsuyu immediately guesses Minoru is behind it, saying so to other girls while not realizing he's literally at the table next to them. He actually wasn't, two of Chiharu's classmates in the Management Course were, having stolen the blueprints to Hitoshi's Persona Chords and used it to replicate Nemuri's voice. Tsuyu was actually shocked to find out Minoru wasn't even involved, while Minoru privately expresses hurt over the girls thinking he'd stoop to suck an act.
  • Reformed, but Not Tamed: While he's making efforts to not make the girls uncomfortable with his behavior and gain some standards, his mind is still very perverted, he's just doing better at keeping his perversion to himself now. This becomes a plot point when 1-A is attacked by Zaraba, as while everyone else has their dark secrets revealed by him in an effort to break them, there's nothing he can say about Minoru, since not only does everyone already know how perverted Minoru is, not even Zaraba wants to dig further into his mind, something Minoru exploits while taunting him long enough to make him lose his composure and slip up.
    Toru Hagakure — Invisible Girl
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/toru_hagakure_full_body_uniform_0.png
Click here to see her as Invisible Girl
Click here to see her after Chapter 81

  • Adaptation Name Change: Implied. While Toru does still pick "Invisible Girl" as a Hero Name, it's made clear through its only a temporary name, as she is questioning herself over just who she wants to be as a Hero and doesn't want to be defined by her Quirk, giving the implication she'll eventually change it.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: In canon, Toru doesn't really display any overt signs of having issues with her Quirk, at best only remarking how her Quirk isn't something that lets her "stand out" during events like the Sports Festival. Here, she has immense insecurities over her Quirk leaving her constantly overlooked by others, and hates the idea of being defined solely by her Quirk.
  • Attention Whore: A sympathetic case. Toru has many insecurities over her Quirk permanently making her invisible, and hates the fact she's overlooked by practically everyone and can't even tell what she looks like. It's because of this she wants to be a "Limelight Hero", someone who is constantly in the spotlight and is highly popular, so that she won't be overlooked anymore. Shinigami however deconstructs this, as while she does feel sympathy for Toru's reasoning, she points out that would be a terrible choice for her since being in the spotlight would mean people know about her Quirk, when said Quirk is one more suited for being an Underground Hero, and Toru doing otherwise would be liable to get her killed.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: She has many insecurities regarding her Quirk, to the point she considers herself Blessed with Suck over it, and wants more than anything to be seen for who she is outside of her Quirk. Thanks to Izumi, she is able to better understand the applications of her Quirk and learns how to turn it off and on... it just requires suffering an Izumi brand identity crisis that leaves her staring off into space for a bit.
  • Blessed with Suck: How she views her Quirk, "Invisibility". Not only can she not see her own face due to being born with the Quirk and it being permanently active, she's extremely insecure over the fact most people end up overlooking her unless she's making an active effort to be noticed, lamenting how the only people in her class who can "see" her without question are Izumi, Ochaco, and Eri, before remarking Eri likely only notices her due to her telepathy, with similar reasoning, unbeknownst to her, applying to Ochaco. It's to the point that she breaks down when Shinigami criticizes her desire to be a "Limelight Hero" while saying it would be more practical for her to be an Underground Hero, as she more than anything does not want to be defined by her Quirk.
    Rikido Sato — Sugarman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rikido_sato_full_body_uniform_8.png
Click here to see him as Sugarman

  • Adaptational Badass: Played with. Initially, his Quirk seems to be identical to canon, Weaksauce Weakness included. His Dark Secret however is that he has hypoglycemia from his father, and that his mother's Quirk is nigh-identical to his own just without the weakness, implying his weakness isn't actually tied to his Quirk, but a general reaction to low blood sugar, making his Quirk technically stronger than canon.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: His Quirk, "Sugar Rush", causes his mental faculties to be reduced after prolonged use, leaving him The Load and too tired to think. It's later implied via his Dark Secret that this is actually a result of hypoglycemia that he inherited from his dad, as his mom has a nearly identical Quirk to his, but without the sugar crash effects.

Class 1-B

    In General

  • Hero of Another Story: They've had their own misadventures independent of 1-A, even if significantly more mundane than facing Villains, such as Shoto taking one of the spare rooms for her conspiracy theories before Shota found her, or Katsuki needing to be the Team Mom for the Bakusquad whenever they get involved in antics.
  • Minor Major Character: Much like with canon, by all accounts they should be equals with 1-A in terms of standing, but thanks to 1-A being the focus of the central narrative, and most of their friendships with their sister class being either minor or kept to the background, the students of 1-B end up feeling much less important as a result. This is particularly noticeable with Katsuki and Shoto, who were the deuteragonist and one of the rotating protagonists in canon respectively, but here are much less important narratively, the former at best getting the occasional focus moment, and even then only due to his importance to Izumi's trauma and her character arc, while the latter's character arc has been entirely Adapted Out due to Endeavor's crimes being exposed years earlier than canon.
    Shoto Todoroki — Freezerburn

  • Adaptation Name Change: Instead of simply using their name like in canon, Shoto opts to use the name "Freezerburn" here.
  • Demoted to Extra: Whereas Shoto was one of the rotating protagonists in canon, the Todoroki subplot being Adapted Out here leaves her largely out of the main narrative.
  • Gender Flip: Shoto was born female here.
  • Noodle Incident: According to Shota, Shoto actually commandeered one of the spare rooms and filled it with tons of things pertaining to her conspiracies. What they were about is unknown, but Shota is overall done with conspiracy theories as a result of dealing with her.
    Itsuka Kendo — Battle Fist
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/itsuka_kendo_anime.png
Click here to see her Battle Fist

  • Bare-Fisted Monk: She's a martial artist in terms of fighting, which compliments her Quirk "Big Fist" quite well.
  • Cool Big Sis: She still acts as one for Class 1-B as a whole, but is even more effective due to Neito not being in Class 1-B in the fic, meaning his influence is entirely absent, and 1-B has a much more amicable relationship with 1-A from the outset. She likewise is able to pick up on how negatively 1-A was affected by the USJ, with Katsuki noting she's a lot better at picking up on people's emotions than anyone else in the class.
  • Minor Major Character: She's one of the leading figures in 1-B alongside Katsuki, but her presence in the fic is minimal due to her not having any real connection to any of the primary cast, occasionally getting a cameo or mentions of her talking with Izumi and Momo offscreen due to their position as Class Representatives. Her largest presence so far has been at her shared internship with Chiharu under Uwabami, which is still minor in the grand scheme.
  • Noodle Incident: Togaru apparently shredded her costume during training once when he was feeling particularly "stab happy", almost stripping her naked in the process.
    Ibara Shiozaki — Vine
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ibara_shiozaki_anime.png
Click here to see her as Vine

  • Covert Pervert: Much to the surprise of Kyoka, Minoru, and Shihai, she of all people asked Minoru to send her a picture of Mt. Lady's ass after he said she sat on him, right after she tried chastising him for being a pervert. She later explains to Minoru that said perversion is a side effect of her being affected by Mutator, one that she tries to conceal normally, and allows the two to bond over as a result of Minoru looking for ways to restrain his own impulses.
  • Not So Above It All: While she normally tries to keep her patience and act pious, if she gets annoyed she ends up entering "Crusader Mode", her doing so in the chat being accompanied by her playing "In The Name of God" by Deus Vult and becoming much hammier.
  • Nuclear Mutant: Like Tsuyu, Ibara was present the day of Mutator's attack at the edge of his radius, causing her to be affected by his gas. Physically, Ibara's vines are now resistant to things like acid and fire now at the expense of physical strength, and she has the telltale green veins that she conceals with makeup. Mentally however is another story, as she now suffers increased bouts of hormonal activity that she tries desperately to restrain.
    Pony Tsunotori — Rocketti
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pony_tsunotori_anime.png
Click here to see her as Rocketti

  • Language Barrier: She retains her canon issues with Japanese thanks to being an American Transfer Student, making it hard for her to communicate with her classmates. The girls of 1-B actually bemoan Izumi not being in their class since she can speak English and in turn talk with Pony easily.

Bakusquad

    In General

  • Honorary True Companion: Chiharu has practically been adopted into the group following Bakugo's getting them to talk things out with their parent, to the point Camie adds them to the group chat, and the rest of the group says "Mom" adopted another one.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Katsuki being in 1-B means his canon "Bakusquad", comprised of Eijiro Kirishima, Denki Kaminari, Hanta Sero, and Mina Ashido, doesn't exist here. Instead, he ends up forming an alternate group by time of the Sports Festival comprised of Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu, Togaru Kamakiri, Yosetsu Awase, and Camie Utsushimi. With the exception of Togaru, each member fills a similar niche in terms of personality for the Bakusquad, Tetsutetsu for Eijiro, Yosetsu for Hanta, and Camie for Mina.
  • Warts and All: Following Katsuki's admitting to the rest of the "Bakusquad" his past, they all admit to having lost a lot of their respect for him, especially since several of them had been bullying victims themselves. That being said, Togaru and Tetsutetsu immediately make clear they're willing to give Katsuki the benefit of the doubt and remain friends with him, with Yosetsu joining them after admitting he's done dumb shit in the past too and shouldn't crucify Katsuki for his past. Camie was the only holdout, being uncharacteristically quiet the entire time and not indicating whether or not she can accept him, but she managed to accept him herself following her witnessing his changed behavior while taking to Chiharu.
    Katsuki Bakugo — King Explosion
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bakugo.png
Click here to see him as King Explosion

  • Adaptation Name Change: Rather than his canon choice of "Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight", Katsuki uses a name derived from his original choice of "King Explosion Murder": "King Explosion".
  • Adapted Out: Katsuki's costume lacks the gauntlets he used to store his sweat in canon, as part of his probation requires he have an explosives license after gaining the trust of the UA staff that he's continuing to improve his moral character, and won't be able to even apply for a license until his second year.
  • Can't Catch Up: A variant. Something Katsuki realizes about himself after seeking therapy and anger management is that he doesn't have what it takes to surpass All Might. Not because he isn't strong enough, but because he doesn't have the right moral character to. He knows full well that the past ten years of bullying are something he can't erase and will forever haunt him, and that someone wanting to surpass All Might would need to have compassion, selflessness, and genuine kindness to do so, all things Katsuki is lacking in. And while Katsuki is making strides at being a better person, he knows full well he'll never reach the level needed to be in the same category as All Might, that his career will be forever tainted by the fact he nearly drove Izumi to suicide, and that all he can hope to do is keep trying to change and be better than who he once was. He'll never be the Number 1 Hero, but he can at least try to be a Hero.
  • Demoted to Extra: Downplayed. Canonically, Katsuki was the deuteragonist of the series, receiving the second largest amount of focus and considered one of the two "inspirations" of 1-A alongside Izuku. Thanks to being in 1-B here instead, he doesn't get nearly as much focus compared to canon, albeit he does get the occasional focus moment for himself, and is the student in 1-B with the most prominence in the fic.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Katsuki was an abusive bully to Izumi for the better part of a decade, but he never wanted her to actually die, his Suicide Dare being a joke in poor taste. So when she actually tries to kill herself and an investigation results in a good chunk of Aldera's staff being arrested, Katsuki ends up seeking therapy and comes to thoroughly regret everything he did to Izumi, hating himself and striving to change for the better.
  • Missed Him by That Much: Downplayed. Following his seeking therapy and anger management, Katsuki has come to immensely regret the past ten years of his life, in particular his treatment of Izumi. This has caused him to devote himself wholeheartedly to bettering himself as a person and Hero, and wants nothing more than to apologize to Izumi for everything. However, both he and the narrative know that it isn't the right time yet, as while he is trying to change, Izumi doesn't know that and still considers him her tormentor that she hates, with her own experiences coloring the perceptions of her friends, specifically Ochaco, Hitoshi, and Neito. So whenever Katsuki seems positioned to finally interact with Izumi again and apologize to her, either his own self-loathing causes him to back out of it, or one of Izumi's friends, rightfully fearing just seeing Katsuki would cause Izumi to suffer a breakdown, intercepts him and stops Izumi from realizing he was anywhere near her. A prime example being the fact that, unbeknownst to either of them, both were taking therapy under Dr. Isa, who was making substantial progress with the two by time of the UA Entrance Exam and could accidentally lead to an encounter between the two should both happen to meet at his office, only for Dr. Isa to "die" and his office be destroyed, necessitating both seek new therapists and neither realizing they were both patients of the same man.
  • Noodle Incident: Katsuki mentions being terrified of facing mushrooms as a result of training, specifically one being grown in his throat, suggesting he faced Kinoko Komori in training at some point.
  • Not Me This Time: When Chiharu first detonates one of her layered mines, the explosion that goes off is comparable to a small hydrogen bomb, and can be heard all over campus. It also causes Class 1-B to immediately suspect Katsuki is responsible, causing him to vehemently deny any involvement.
The sound of which echoed across the entire campus and caused a certain explosive Pomeranian to defend himself by saying “That wasn’t me!” when his entire class turned to look at him.
  • Reformed, but Not Tamed: Katsuki has been making a marked improvement as a result of seeking therapy and anger management, but it's still an uphill battle. He has to carry around a stressball at all times to make sure he doesn't let his Hair-Trigger Temper flare, he has to consciously remind himself not to yell at anything annoying him as well as remember other peoples names, and he's still a Sir Swearsalot. The staff of UA factored this into their decision on which classes to put Izumi and him in, wisely deciding to keep them separated both to avoid triggering Izumi, and to make sure Katsuki doesn't backslid on his improvement.
  • Team Mom: Much to his embarrassment, he's pretty much stuck with this role in the group, being the one who "needs to keep the kids in line" as he puts it. Considering the antics the rest of them admit to doing, like Yosetsu welding himself to the fridge, Togaru destroying Itsuka's costume when he was "stab happy", and Tetsutetsu repeatedly throwing himself off a building thinking it will improve his Quirk after watching Eijiro do it, he's not exactly wrong.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: When he finds out Chiharu didn't tell their parents about their decision to enroll in the Hero Course, he is absolutely livid, forcing himself to keep calm as he chews them out over the danger their line of work entails, and how worried it could make their parents. He doesn't renege when Chiharu informs him of her strained relationship with Chitose and Akito being dead, seeing it as more reason for Chiharu to at least talk to Chitose, since he knows her mother wouldn't want to lose her too after already losing her father.
    Camie Utsushimi — Maboromicamie
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/camieutsushimi.png
As Maboromicamie

  • Adapted Out: Since she's not attending Shiketsu here, her costume lacks the schools cap.
  • Age Lift: She was canonically a second year in Shiketsu, making her a year older than the UA students. Here, she's a first year and Katsuki's classmate, making her the same age as him.
  • The Ditz: She's an airhead with a poor memory, causing her to easily forget things she just learned and not think things through.
  • Jive Turkey: She still peppers her speech with various slang terms like "lit", causing no end of confusion for anyone who overhears her.
  • Mysterious Past: Her background before UA is alluded to occassionally, but is largely vague. All that's known is that Fumikage knew her to an extent, and it's implied she was a victim of bullying.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Camie is normally rather ditzy and a Genki Girl, having a hard time not being upbeat. So it becomes concerning when she becomes uncharacteristically quiet upon learning Katsuki's past as a bully, and is the only one amidst the "Bakusquad" to not openly accept Katsuki Warts and All.
  • Squishy Wizard: Her Quirk, "Glamour", allows her to create illusions that could easily pass for the real thing, but are absolutely useless in terms of combat ability. While great for espionage and camouflage, Camie falls to use them efficiently due to her ditzy personality, such as when she made multiple copies of herself during her fight with Momo... but did nothing to actually disguise herself amidst them, allowing Momo to lay her out with a single punch.
    Togaru Kamakiri — Jack Mantis
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/togaru_kamakiri_anime_profile_6.png
Click here to see him as Jack Mantis

  • Blood Knight: He is, in his own words, "stab happy", and will gladly go nuts with his "Razor Sharp" Quirk if given the opportunity. He ended up shredding Itsuka's costume once as a result.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: His immediate move when facing Chiharu, who he knows has a Quirk that lets her set up a minefield, is to charge in headfirst like an idiot. This predictably gets him juggled by her nigh-infinite mines until he's too injured to continue. Both Katsuki and Shota remark how stupid it was for him to do that, the latter even noting a need to give him more lessons on tactics.
  • Not So Similar: Katsuki notes to himself how a lot of people often compare the two of them to one another, seeing them both as foul-tempered, aggressive, and violent, Katsuki noting however that's only a surface level comparison. Whereas Katsuki is analytical and simply has a dour disposition, Togaru is instinctive and reckless, Katsuki putting great thought and planning into when to use his explosions and how to increase maximum damage with minimal collateral, while Togaru charges in swinging without a second thought.
    Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu — Real Steel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tetsutetsu_tetsutetsu_anime.png
Click here to see him in Real Steel

  • Adaptational Sexuality: In canon, his sexuality is unspecified outside of his receiving Ship Tease with Itsuka. Here, he's in a relationship with Eijiro.
  • Ascended Extra: Highly downplayed. While he beats Eijiro in their tie breaker match during the Sports Festival, he is shortly after beaten offscreen by Momo in a Curb-Stomp Battle.
  • Insane Troll Logic: He somehow came to the conclusion that, because he and Eijiro are so similar, that he can try Eijiro's training methods himself to improve his Quirk. Except said method is throwing himself off the top of UA, something that can work for Eijiro since he's improving his hardness, not for Tetsutetsu however since his Quirk functions differently.
    Yosetsu Awase — Welder
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yosetsu_awase_anime.png
Click here to see him as Welder

  • Noodle Incident: He somehow managed to weld himself to the fridge twice, losing his underwear in the process.
  • Out of Focus: Of the Bakusquad, he tends to get the least amount of focus, only beaten by Tetsutetsu due to his presence in the Sports Festival.

Other Courses

    Yuga Aoyama (Unmarked Spoilers)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuga_aoyama_full_body_uniform_9.png

  • Adaptational Villainy: As a result of failing the Entrance Exam this time around and not receiving the Positive Friend Influence being in the Hero Course brought, he becomes a Green-Eyed Monster, convinced everyone else was sabotaging his efforts to get into the Hero Course via the Sports Festival, that Izumi was a Glory Seeker being given preferential treatment with her use of Durandal during the Entrance Exam, completely deluding himself into thinking everyone drove him into becoming All For One's spy full time, and planning revenge on the Hero Course while stirring resentment amidst the General Course.
  • The Corruptor: He manages to successfully tempt numerous General Education students, namely those that failed to join the Hero Course and those that resent them for whatever reason, into unknowingly joining the League of Villains with him, using them to drum up resentment against the Hero Course.
  • Demoted to Extra: Yuga failed the Entrance Exam entirely, but had fortunately applied to the General Course just in case, appearing during the Sports Festival leading his own team. He also retains his status as the UA Traitor, having undergone Adaptational Villainy due to lacking the Positive Friend Influence being in 1-A gave him.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Subverted. While he initially doesn't like the idea of killing All Might since his grudge is more against the institution of UA and the Hero Course than the Symbol of Peace, he willingly goes along with it and sees it as a necessary stepping stone towards his goal.
  • Hate Sink: Any redeeming qualities Yuga had in canon are gone, instead being a willing agent of the League of Villains all too willing to get his fellow students killed for the sake of his delusions about being denied what was "rightfully" his.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Played for Drama as it demonstrates how delusional he's becoming. He convinces himself that the Hero Course was outright sabotaging his effort to join them in the Sports Festival, and quickly grows to resent Izumi thinking she was given special treatment for having Durandal and looked over helping him in favor of two students who didn't need to join the Hero Course. Not only does he ignore however that Izumi was simply teaming up with her friends, but she doesn't even know him, nor did he even try to approach her.
  • It's All About Me: Yuga still has a large case of a narcissism here, but it's put in a much more unflattering light. Whereas his canon behavior was more meant to mask his feelings of guilt over being the UA Traitor and cover up his low self-esteem, his ego here has fully dominated him, convincing himself he has to "sparkle" no matter what, and whenever he fails he looks to blame anyone but himself, deluding himself into being the victim of a narrative entirely of his own making.
  • The Mole: Yuga retains his canon status as the UA Traitor reporting to All For One, albeit a much more willing one as a result of a Point of Divergence leading to Adaptational Villainy.
  • Never My Fault: Yuga displays some impressive levels of mental gymnastics regarding his hatred for the Hero Course following the Sports Festival. Despite his Quirk making him more suited to being the front horse during the Cavalry Battle, he insisted on being the rider in his group, which predictably resulted in his team being eliminated. When later sitting in the bathroom with stomach cramps, he convinces himself that he did everything right, his team however sabotaged him, deliberately let their headbands be stolen while moving too slow, and had done so because they didn't want him to join the Hero Course with them.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: Deconstructed. Yuga didn't want to be a Villain originally, having his canon motivation of wanting to be a Hero but being indebted to All For One. After he failed the Entrance Exam here and didn't make it to the third round of the Sports Festival however, he decides to embrace his role as the UA Traitor, and slowly begins looking for other General Course students with similar resentment for the Hero Course that he can recruit into the League. However, his reasoning for embracing villainy is entirely of his own delusions, as he has convinced himself that the Hero Course were outright sabotaging his efforts and simply didn't want him to join them, demonizing them in his head to the point that his image of them is nothing like the real versions, and using that to justify his turn to villainy, when it's really his resentment and own moral failings driving him.
    Sadao Atsushi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c_chara_main83_1.png

  • Adaptational Heroism: Thanks to seeking therapy with Dr. Isa, Sadao never goes on to become "Mustard", instead becoming a General Course student at UA.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: No one noticed him approach when the intermission for the Sports Festival occurred, so when he finally speaks up after Hanta, Denki, and Kyoka lament not forming a team with him for the Cavalry Battle instead of Yuga, he ends up scaring the crap out of Kyoka, prompting him to reveal he was there the entire time.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Canonically, Mustard's civilian name is unknown. As he never actually becomes Mustard here though, he is given the name "Sadao Atsushi".
    Chikuchi Togeike
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chikuchi_togeike.png

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: In canon, she shared Tsutsutaka's resentment for Class 1-A's notoriety, joining him in grumbling about it which Katsuki overhears. Here, she's one of the few General Course students to not have any issue with the Hero Course, regularly conversing with them and making clear she dislikes how the rest of the General Course treats them.
  • Eye Scream: She loses her left eye after getting caught in the crossfire of a villain attack when off campus. As Izumi briefly feels "Danger Sense" go off when she passed her, and the mention of bees flying around campus, it's implied she actually lost her eye due to Kuin Hachisuka burrowing into and taking residence inside her eye socket.
    Tsutsutaka Agoyamato
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tsutsutaka_agoyamato_anime.png

  • Adaptational Jerkass: In canon, while he resented Class 1-A for their notoriety and being targets of the League of Villains, it never amounted to anything other than grumbling, and both he and Chikuchi publicly apologized after seeing their performance for the Culture Festival. Here, his disdain for them reaches Irrational Hatred levels, to the point Chikuchi tries taking him to task for it, only for it to go in one ear and out the other. Becomes Adaptational Villainy once he decides to take up Yuga's offer at taking 1-A "down a peg".
  • Irrational Hatred: His hatred for 1-A is practically all consuming, using Insane Troll Logic to justify it and blaming them for things completely beyond their control, such as Chikuchi losing an eye despite them being nowhere near her when it happened. Chikuchi tries reading him the riot act for his behavior, but it just goes in one ear and out the other.

Staff

    Principal Nezu
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/principal_3.png

  • Pragmatic Hero: Nezu is very much aware that sometimes, in order to ensure innocents are saved and lives are protected, bending the rules is necessary. While never to the extent of the corruption of the HPSC, Nezu is willing to employ more shady methods if he feels there is greater benefit than risk to them, such as allowing Izumi to keep Durandal as an emotional support animal/support item despite his being one of Paxton's robots, and enrolling the de-aged Chizome Akaguro/Hero Killer Stain into his Villain Rehabilitation program thanks to his being one of the few to have fought Argonaut and survived. Nezu and Horoguramu likewise seem to be fully aware who the "Dreadnoughts" are, but are content to let them continue their actions despite only a third of their victims being confirmed villains, and are hoping the WHA don't encounter one, lest they go down a rabbit hole they can't even begin to fathom.
    Toshinori Yagi — All Might
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/all_might_hero_form_full_body_9.png
Click here to see his real self post-injury

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: In addition to being Quirkless, Toshinori was suicidal before he met Nana, with Nana saving him after he jumped and being the only one who believed in his dream. It's with cruel irony that Toshi laments that he failed to be to Izumi what Nana was to him when they first met, and calls himself out on the hypocrisy afterwards, telling Mirai that even had Izumi refused One For All, he'd have done everything in his power to help her become a hero anyway to atone for his failing her.
  • Aesop Amnesia: A retroactive case. Izumi wasn't the first time his Innocently Insensitive behavior hurt someone who looked up to and admired him. Melissa was, as he had shunned for years after she was turned into a Cardrian out of the mistaken belief she wasn't actually Melissa, but just a swarm of bugs wearing her corpse. And while he did pull his head out of his ass the first time and swore to be The Atoner for them afterwards... that didn't stop him from almost doing the same thing again with Izumi. Fortunately, it seems to have stuck following what happened to Izumi.
  • Didn't Think This Through: With his time limit growing shorter and shorter, and All For One still being an active threat that he intends to end once and for all, Toshinori decides to publicly announce his retirement, intending on saving the last of his strength for the battle with All For One, deliberately keeping everyone that would try to talk him out of it in the dark so they couldn't stop him. This has lasting consequences that he failed to account for. Japan had grown reliant on his presence, with his retirement emboldening Japan's Villain population, increasing the crime rate and resulting in numerous Pro-Heroes either dying, quitting, or being left exhausted, same for civilian and law enforcement in terms of casualties. Burnin, the new Number 1, is in no way ready or able to take his place in both her own eyes and the eyes of the public, causing the faith in Heroes to suffer. The increase in Villain attacks has had the students of UA suffer in particular, many of them, Izumi especially, suffering back to back attacks impacting their mental and physical health, two students nearly being kidnapped had Nezu not intervened. Numerous factions like the League and the HPSC have begun altering their plans to take more drastic actions due to their original plans being reliant on All Might's presence as Number 1, adding to the chaos. And UA's budget has been reduced to allow other schools like Shiketsu and Ketsubutsu to increase their own facilities in preparation for the much more hostile post-All Might world. While Toshinori only did so to be in as best condition he could to finally end All For One, his unexpected retirement just made things harder for everyone else, since they not only weren't ready for his retirement, he left open a position no one could ever take.
Toshinori: Unfortunately, there isn’t anyone who can measure up to me and maintain the mantle of symbol of peace. I'm not insulting Burnin or anything. She's a great hero with a fantastic work ethic. But, she isn’t me. She doesn't have the same presence as me.
Sorahiko: Such is the problem being the soul symbol of peace. Who replaces the symbol of peace when he retires?
  • Innocently Insensitive: As Durandal lampshades, Toshinori has a bad habit of being insensitive to emotionally unstable girls without meaning to. In addition to his poor choice of words to Izumi nearly causing her to kill herself, he shunned Melissa for years due to considering her just a swarm of bugs pretending to be her after she became a Cardrian. Both cases have him kicking himself for being an emotionally dense dumbass, and trying to be The Atoner for them after the fact.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: In the past, Toshinori didn't have that great of an opinion of his adopted niece Melissa, considering her not actually his niece, but just a swarm of bugs wearing her skin, having been heavily against David making the deal that converted her into a Cardrian. At some point before the story, he decided to finally get his "head out of [his] own arse" and accepted Melissa for who she is, considering his old behavior an Old Shame.
  • Secret-Keeper: In addition to the existing secret of One For All, he is completely aware as to what Ochaco really is, but is keeping mum bout it out of respect for their privacy and knowing it's something they need to reveal themselves.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Toshinori tends to have only good intentions behind his actions, but he doesn't do anything by halves, going by what is all accounts overboard on everything he does. In particular:
    • Like canon, his intent behind shooting down Izumi's dreams of being a Hero was meant to be for her own good, since he knew of the dangers and didn't want to see a Quirkless girl get killed. He failed to realize just how emotionally fragile she was though, with his blunt and harsh words hurting Izumi worse than Izuku was hurt in canon, causing her to jump off the ledge, and would've died had Dr. Isa Tsuneyo not been there to save her.
    • Following the concerns that All For One is more than likely still alive, that he's likely only got a few more years as All Might left before he retires, the ever present threat of Avalon's agents resurfacing, and aliens making their presence more well known on Earth, Toshinori is adamant that the next generation of Heroes is more than prepared now rather than later. This causes him to create a revised plan for the joint training camp between the first year UA and second year Seiai Hero Courses that will make the students go "Plus Ultra", and instructs Kaina, Shota, Yomako, and Suzune to use it instead of their original plan, while getting Number 6 Hero Daidoji to go along with it and be Izumi's personal trainer afterwards. All this does is put the students through such a horrible experience, they're left physically and emotionally exhausted afterwards, to the point the teachers have to scrap the rest of the days plans when they realize the students can't even move. Izumi meanwhile has a panic attack after Ryuko/Pixie-Bob nearly throws them all off the cliff, only avoiding injury due to Ochaco protecting her and levitating them both before it could happen, both now having lost trust in their teachers and hating Ryuko. The four teachers understandably decide to throw the rest of his plan out, in particular the idea of making Izumi train with Daidoji so that it isn't just a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown for Izumi, and Kaina intends on having words with Toshinori afterwards.
    Vice-Principal Horoguramu

  • Hard Light: Her Quirk, "Hard Light", lets her create holograms wherever she pleases. Said holograms have some level of tangibility to them, as Nezu occasionally rides on her shoulder.
  • Number Two: As the Vice-Principal of UA, she works directly under Nezu, and is largely one of the few people he is candid with regarding his concerns.
  • Original Character: She is a character designed for this story.
  • Sadist: One of the things that she and Nezu have in common and bond over: a shared love for tormenting people for sadistic glee.
  • The Unseen: No one actually knows what the real Horoguramu looks like, as she only ever appears via her holograms. She likes to claim it's because she's an actual alien VTuber, but as Shota explains to the Wild, Wild Pussycats, it's actually because she's a Shrinking Violet who never leaves her room.
    Kaina Tsutsumi — Lady Nagant
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kainatsutsumi.png

  • Adaptation Personality Change: Thanks to not being stuck in Tartarus for years, along with falling in love and starting a family, Kaina is a lot more mellow and openly kindhearted.
  • Ascended Extra: She acts as Class 1-A's homeroom teacher here instead of Shota, making her a permanent fixture of the cast much earlier.
  • Not So Above It All: After admitting that "Lady Nagant" wasn't actually her choice for a Hero Name, Kaina admits she wanted her Hero Name to be "Raifu", derived from "Rifle Waifu". Off the clock she's also sickeningly sweet with Snipe, and an enthusiastic mother to Mei, Teshima, and Kimito.
  • Secret-Keeper: She's long since known about the existence of "One For All", largely due to Toshinori giving her a box containing various items, including a tape explaining everything to her, the night they went to kill All For One, said box even including a strand of Toshinori's hair on the off chance he died that night, so that Kaina could become the Ninth wielder. Toshinori himself actually forgot about it, thinking he told Kaina not to open that box unless he died that night, and destroy it otherwise. The stress of everything going on that night likewise caused her to forget learning about it, hence her not realizing Izumi was the Ninth now, legitimately thinking she was just a late bloomer.
  • Unexpected Successor: Invoked and averted. On the night they were all set to kill All For One, Toshinori decided that, should he die during the confrontation, Kaina would be the Ninth wielder, even though they had only met shortly before then. Toshinori's rationale was that she was the only one who knew of All For One's existence that wouldn't either be on the battlefield with him, and too far away for the transfer to occur, along with the idea All For One wouldn't think to suspect her of having it because they only just met. Since Toshinori survived that night however, this never had to come to pass.
    Shota Aizawa — Eraserhead
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aizawa_7.png

  • Abled in the Adaptation: Due to not being at the USJ this time, Shota never suffers damage to his optic nerves, leaving his Quirk at it's original power.
  • Demoted to Extra: Downplayed. While he's the teacher of 1-B here rather than 1-A, meaning he doesn't appear as often as in canon, he still has a recurring presence whenever the two classes interact, is one of the staff Nezu calls on the most outside of Horoguramu, commentates for the Sports Festival, and briefly looks after Eri until Durandal can replicate his Quirk.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Shota may be a Sink or Swim Mentor with a habit of using expulsions as a scare tactic, but he readily admits that his style of teaching is not what Izumi needs after all she's been through, and more than likely would just make things worse for the poor girl. So he has no issue saying so when deciding which homerooms the students should be in, admitting Kaina is better fitting for Izumi while he takes Katsuki. He later admits to himself that while it was for the best that Kaina be 1-A's teacher, he secretly wishes he could have been their teacher, as while Kaina is a good teacher, he feels he could have brought out even more of their potential much earlier, Izumi in particular.
  • Secret-Keeper: He's made aware of the existence of "One For All" after Zaraba attacks the joint training camp, and the method to heal everyone's souls causes Izumi to reveal her other Quirks to him. She decides to go through with telling him everything out of the concern "Erasure" is now lethal to her after "One For All" absorbed her soul to save her from Zaraba.
    Nemuri Kayama — Midnight
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nemurikayama.png

  • Actually, I Am Him: Turns out the writer behind most of the known Midnight smutfics, "MidnightLover", is Nemuri herself. The revelation comes as a massive shock to Shuichi since he, loathe as he is to admit it, was a reader of said fics.
  • Adaptational Badass: She is in possession of a nano-core like Momo, implied to be a result of facing Dr. Necro.
  • Babies Make Everything Better: More like kids, but Nemuri decides to adopt after learning Gurren proposed to Yoko, figuring she'll never find a man to take Gurren's place but still wants to experience being a mother. So, she adopts a pair of siblings from Nabu Island who lost their father in a villain attack: the Shimano siblings, Katsuma and Mahoro.
  • Heartbreak and Ice Cream: Like many other women, she was devastated when Gurren and Yoko announced they were getting married, and just being reminded of it causes her to pull out a tub of ice cream and start wolfing it down.
  • Noodle Incident: An intern apparently tried filling a sexual harassment suit against UA because of her, though the charges were entirely fabricated since all she ever said to him was "nice suit". Nezu still laughs over how foolish the guy was to think he could con UA.
    Anan Kurose — Thirteen
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/no_13.png

  • Death by Adaptation: She's impaled in the head by Argonaut at the USJ, being killed instantly.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Argonaut throws a spear right through her helmet, impaling her head and killing her instantly.
  • Loved by All:
    • Anan was highly liked amidst both the UA staff and the Rescue Hero community, so her death ends up greatly affecting both, Sekijiro initially lashing out at Nezu when he believed Nezu was too quick in looking for a replacement, and Shino taking the position as UA's new Rescue Specialist partly out of respect for her late friend.
    • The general student body loved her too, but this causes issues amidst the first year General Course students, several of them harassing Class 1-A out of the belief they were responsible for her death, either ignorant or just uncaring of the class' own grieving over her death.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: Played with. She only really has one class with 1-A before her death, but she was Ochaco's personal idol since she was a child, based many aspects of her Hero identity on her, and looked forward to learning under her. Her death in turn highly impacts Ochaco, making her violently protective of those she cares about so that she doesn't risk losing them too, and causing her to reevaluate her beliefs as a Hero rather than just copy Anan.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: She only lives long enough to appear in the USJ Arc, but her death prompts several big changes to the setting. For one thing, it prompts Nezu to hire the Wild, Wild Pussycats as full time teachers due to needing Shino as a new Rescue Specialist, but it also instills in Ochaco and Nezu, as well as reinforces in Durandal, a deep hatred for Argonaut and desire to kill him for killing Anan, results in Nejire being made aware of Durandal being made by Paxton and possessing the Quirk Emulator, causes Ochaco to become violently protective of those she cares about and reevaluate her desires in being a Hero, and is part of the trauma that brings the Snuggle Squad together.
  • Surprisingly Sudden Death: Her death comes rather abruptly. She, Nejire, Durandal, and Horoguramu had just succeeded in restraining Kurogiri, and were all set to go locate and help the students deal with the League's mooks. It's then that Argonaut reveals himself by destroying two of the UA robots Horoguramu was controlling, then impales Anan through her helmet by throwing his spear, all happening within a matter of In-Universe seconds.
  • Tragic Keepsake: When Argonaut impaled her helmet, some of her blood splashed on Durandal, causing his Quirk Emulator to make a copy of her "Black Hole" Quirk. While he can't use it, he refuses to delete it since it's all that's left of Anan after her death, and keeping it means she can live on in spirit.
    Snipe
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/snipe_anime.png

  • Out of Focus: Compared to his wife and adopted daughter, he doesn't get much in the way of focus, not even having his actual name known.
    Chizo Shuenji — Recovery Girl
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c_chara_main28_1.png

  • Fountain of Youth: After triggering Eri's trypanophobia, she gets blasted by Eri's Quirk and is deaged to about 30.
  • Not So Above It All: Recovery Girl is apparently a secret meme lord, as she managed to know the pre-Quirk Max0r memes Denki was referencing before receiving his new eye, and actually match him beat for beat.
    Sorahiko Torino — Gran Torino
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gran_7.png
Click here to see him after Chapter 39 (Spoilers)

  • Ascended Extra: Gran Torino meets Izumi much earlier after finding out about Toshinori choosing her as his successor, opting to have a more active role in her training, later becoming 1-A's substitute teacher after the USJ left Kaina in the hospital. He also personally begins training Ochaco and Chiharu at Izumi's request, and eventually returns to teaching full time, both because of his investment in 1-A, and because it would scare the crap out of Toshinori.
  • Fountain of Youth: He's caught in a blast from Eri's Quirk after Recovery Girl triggers her trypanophobia, deaging him to about 30 again.

Daycare

    Kantō Izu — Blossom

  • Ambiguously Human: There's something... odd about her. In addition to Eri hearing three kinds of voices from her with her telepathy, the third kind of voice is explicitly described as more like an animals than a persons. She also suffered a severe reaction when Zaraba unleashed an attack on those with psionic abilities, with blood pouring out her eyes and extremities, something not even the others affected suffered, and appears to be Long-Lived, as she ends up trying to contain Eri's Trigger-boosted "Rewind" and is only physically reduced to six years old, despite the surrounding area being rewound as far back as the Triassic period, which was over 200 million years ago.
  • Delicate and Sickly: Despite only looking like she's in her twenties, Kantō has very poor health, constantly coughing up a storm, occasionally with blood in it.
  • The Faceless: She always keeps her face hidden behind a black fox mask.
  • Friend to All Children: Not only is she in charge of UA's onsite daycare center, she also acts as UA's resident Quirk Counselor, making her someone very skilled at handling both little kids and teenagers.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Downplayed. She's normally very gentle and reserved, but she can be quick to lash out if someone pisses her off, even without meaning to. Shota has to remind himself of this after he tries suggesting she take some time off after Eri reverts her to a six year old.
Kantō: I will kick your arse till next year if you even so much as insist I take time off due to becoming younger. I will make Gran Torino kicking All Might's arse to the moon and back look like an adult scolding a child for breaking an expensive pot! I will fuck you up, boy!
  • Little Bit Beastly: She possesses a mutation giving her traits of a fox, particularly a pair of fox ears and several fluffy tails.
  • Mysterious Past: Not even Izumi knows much about her past despite being a hero fangirl.
  • Petal Power: Kantō's Quirk is "Sakura Embers", which allows her to manipulate black cherry blossom petals for a multitude of uses, particularly using them for Paper Cutting. She can likewise use them to surround herself and others in a storm of petals for transportation.
    Inko Midoriya
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/inko_update.png
Click here to see her after Chapter 21

  • Ambiguously Related: While she is formerly "Inko Akatani", she was only adopted into the Akatani family when she was little. The only things she mentions about her biological family is that she didn't know her mother much before she died, and had an older brother who she was separated from due to the foster system. It's implied as a result that Inko's biological family are Nana and Kotaro Shimura, making her "Inko Shimura" and Tenko Shimura/Tomura Shigaraki's biological aunt, as well as completely unaware her brother is both dead and the reason for Tenko's Start of Darkness.
  • Ascended Extra: Inko takes on a more proactive role here compared to canon thanks to being let in on the secret of One For All, involving herself in Izumi's training, acting as a Mama Bear to make sure she doesn't unjustly suffer anymore, and being the one to save Eri and Chizome from a Shie Hassakai member, leading to her moving into the 1-A dorms so she can act as Eri's guardian, effectively becoming the Den Mother, and later becoming a worker at the on-site Daycare.
  • Fountain of Youth: As she's saving Eri and Chizome from the Shie Hassaikai, she's hit with Eri's Quirk, making her roughly a decade younger, restoring her to her original height, and giving her a thinner physique.
  • Mama Bear: Following Izumi's failed attempt at suicide, Inko becomes fiercely protective of her daughter, and won't hesitate to threaten anyone who she even thinks might hurt her, typically threatening to use her Quirk, "Attraction of Small Objects", to tear off their testicles. Toshinori himself is on thin ice with her after she learned what he said to Izumi, and is only allowed to help Izumi and give her One For All because Inko at least knows Toshinori is trying to atone and wants to help Izumi. She even threatens Mirai point blank despite his being a Pro-Hero with the ability to arrest her, something that terrifies the man to no end and quickly gets rid of any lingering issue he was with Izumi. Said behavior later extends to Eri after first meeting her, seeing the chance to help her as My Greatest Second Chance and threatening to tear the balls off of the Yakuza member trying to capture Eri and kill Chizome, even using her Quirk on his penis to demonstrate she is not joking. It extends even further to all of the people occupying the 1-A dorms, becoming the den mother of the class, Izumi even admitting she should have seen this coming since Inko always wanted to care for more kids.
    Kota Izumi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c_chara_main80_1.png

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: With his parents still being alive, his canon relationships are all over the place.
    • Shino, instead of being his Parental Substitute, is just his loving aunt, and is only looking after him while the Water Hose Duo are in the hospital.
    • Without a need for his faith in heroes to be restored, his relationship with Izumi is pretty much non-existent, instead only knowing her as Eri's older sister.
    • While they have no connection in canon, he forms a connection with Eri here after meeting her at the daycare, with Eri being able to console him over his worry for his parents getting hurt, and Kota wanting to do his best to help Eri in any way he can.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: With his parents still being alive here, he lacks any of his initial animosity towards heroes, and is a lot more openly cheerful.
  • Secret-Keeper: He ends up accidentally learning about Ochaco, Himiko, Rolls, and Eri being half-alien after taking Eri to see his secret place on the mountain, they and Izumi and Durandal being unaware the spot they chose to talk about it being right next to Kota's secret place.
    Katsuma Kayama
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/katsuma_shimano_full_body_profile.png

  • Adaptation Name Change: He goes from his canonical name of Katsuma Shimano to "Katsuya Kayama" after he is adopted by Nemuri Kayama/Midnight.
    Mahoro Kayama
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mahoro_shimano_full_body_profile.png

  • Adaptation Name Change: She goes from her canonical name of Mahoro Shimano to "Mahoro Kayama" after she is adopted by Nemuri Kayama/Midnight.

Wild, Wild Pussycats

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pussycats.png

  • Ascended Extra: As a consequence of Anan Kurose/Thirteen's death at the USJ, UA is left in need of a new Rescue Specialist. As such, Shino is hired to be a teacher, with the rest of the team being hired with her.
  • Polyamory: Shino and Ryuko both appear to be aiming at forming one with Shuichi, hence their constantly flirting with him. While they did bet on who would get to him first, both have made clear their intent to both get with him via the staff chat, with Nemuri expressing interest in joining herself.
    Shino Sozaki — Mandalay
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mandalay.png

  • Adaptation Personality Change: Downplayed. Whereas she was the Only Sane Man of the group in canon, and for the most part still is here, she is just as flirtatious with Shuichi as Ryuko is. It's implied that, without having to act as a Parental Substitute for Kota, she is free to be a bit more relaxed.
  • Badass Normal: Her "Telepathy" Quirk doesn't offer her any combat prowess, but she's still able to fight hand to hand rather well, nearly causing Hitoshi and Yui to fail their final exam until Hitoshi broke out the lame cat puns. It likewise proves handy when the braindead Humarise members attack, since her telepathy is specifically from a Quirk rather than Outside Context Magic, meaning she isn't negatively impacted by Zaraba's psionic attack.
  • Shipper on Deck: More in terms of "puppy love", but she finds Kota and Eri together to be adorable.
  • Telepathy: She possesses this via her Quirk, "Telepath". It is not a result of Outside Context Magic however, but is explicitly a Quirk, meaning she is unscathed when Zaraba unleashes a psionic attack on those with psionic abilities.
    Ryuko Tsuchikawa — Pixie-Bob

  • All Women Are Lustful: She is constantly flirtatious with Shuichi once he starts interning with the Wild, Wild Pussycats.
    Tomoko Shiretoko — Ragdoll
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ragdoll_anime_profile.png

  • Abled in the Adaptation: With the League of Villains never attacking the training camp here, she's never kidnapped and doesn't have her "Search" Quirk stolen by All For One, allowing her to avoid being depowered.
  • Character Tics: It's noted she has a hard time sitting still, her constantly moving being her way of dealing with her pent up energy, a trait typically associated with those that have ADHD.
  • Disabled in the Adaptation: During Zaraba's attack on the training camp, one of the Humarise puppets sprays her in the face with something that causes her immense pain and damages her eyes. Afterwards, while she's recovering, it's noted she likely has permanent damage to her eyes now. When 1-A finally see her, the area around her eyes are covered in burn marks, and her eyes are noted to have lost some of their color, hinting at partial blindness.
  • Weak, but Skilled: She acts as an amazing sensor thanks to her "Search" Quirk letting her keep track of others, but she is very inept at actually fighting, focusing more on rescue work when with the other Pussycats. It's for this reason that she chose to be the opponent for Himiko and Toru during the Final Exams, thinking that, as stealth-oriented fighters, she'd have better odds if she could take away their stealth advantage. She didn't expect Himiko to flat out charge her though and get them both tangled in her ODM gear, allowing Toru to just slap the cuffs on her afterwards.
    Shuichi Iguchi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spinner_incognito.png

  • Adaptational Heroism: Thanks to receiving help from Dr. Isa, Shuichi never tries emulating Stain, instead becoming an intern for the Wild, Wild Pussycats, and later joining UA as a teaching assistant alongside them.
  • Beleaguered Assistant: While he's more their Intern than an actual assistant, Shuichi is pretty much stuck as this to the Wild, Wild Pussycats, largely due to half of them being single adult women who relentlessly flirt with him while having a bet over who will get to him first. When Izumi properly meets him for the first time, he's practically begging Izumi to help him before Ryuko drags him off, and Shino telepathically communicates her desire to marry him when telling Kantō how she isn't married yet. It gets worse once the group is hired to teach at UA, as he now has to deal with Nemuri, and ends up learning about Clair Voyance being a Covert Pervert.
Shuichi’s face hit the table. Why does this keep happening to him? Why does he keep ending up working for horny women? First, it was two-fourths of the Wild, Wild Pussycats, then it was UA with Midnight, and now it was Clair Voyance with this Dreadnought case.
  • Chick Magnet: In addition to already having to put up with Shino and Ryuko endlessly flirting with him, he finds himself constantly being surrounded by horny women, in particular Nemuri, Clair, and Suzune. He really doesn't like being this though, even fainting at one point when Shino telepathically offered to fuck him after he made the mistake of saying "Fuck me!"
  • Covert Pervert: Despite his issues with horny women, turns out he is familiar with the works of "MidnightLover", a smutfic writer who writes exclusively fics about the eponymous hero. When he learns that Nemuri is MidnightLover, he accidentally lets slip that he has read her work to the entire staff chat.
  • The Gunslinger: Following the Pussycat's joining UA, he begins taking up firearms training under Snipe, making sure to always have a service pistol on hand as a result.

Villain Rehabilitation Program

    In General

  • Adaptational Heroism: They're all Villains in canon, even if some are closer to Anti-Villain level. Here, thanks to being part of the program, they're either on their way to becoming or have successfully become Pro-Heroes.
  • Godzilla Threshold: A large part of the reason as to why Nezu started the program was to gather powerful allies on the likely chance that Japan would once again find itself threatened, whether by Paxton or another villain group entirely. Whilst most of the members of the program were petty or sympathetic villains who fully deserved a second chance, the recruitment of Dusty Ash and especially Stain is a great showcase of how much Nezu is willing to forgive to get more allies on his side.
  • Walking Spoiler: Their identities serve as this due to their canon roles.
Chizome Akaguro — Hero Killer Stain
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chizomeakaguro.png

  • Adaptational Heroism: Downplayed. While still somewhat of a Knight Templar, Chizome is shown to have a lot more standards than he did in canon, only killing heroes that were actually guilty and being willing to turn himself in once he had completed his mission, while disapproving of the "Children of Blood" whose actions more closely resemble his canon actions. His saving Eri and being hit with the Fountain of Youth in turn allows Nezu to recruit him to his Villain Rehabilitation program, giving him the chance to atone.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Stain was a remorseless Hero Killer, but he wasn't blind to the fact there are genuine heroes out there, and that he would eventually need to face justice for his crimes. To that end, he had hoped the corruption of the heroes he killed would be exposed post-mortem, and fully intended on turning himself in once he felt his mission was complete. He also vehemently disagrees with his "followers", the "Children of Blood", due to their zealous behavior even by his standards, content more on just declaring all heroes corrupt and murdering wantonly rather than only killing the actual corrupt ones like he did. He likewise abhors the treatment the Shie Hassaikai put Eri through, to the point he saved her from their torture and refuses to even consider killing her since she is just a child.
  • Fountain of Youth: As he's escaping with Eri, she accidentally uses her Quirk on him, leaving him roughly fifteen again, as well as restoring his nose.
  • Loophole Abuse: Due to his being hit with the Fountain of Youth and the anonymity he used when acting as Stain, no one outside of the UA Staff, Izumi, and Tsukauchi, believe that he's actually the famed Hero Killer. And since there's no physical evidence to suggest he is, and Tsukauchi's Quirk is inadmissible due to the "True Words" law, that leaves the teenager named "Chizome Akaguro" with only a single crime to his name: one count of vigilantism. Nezu exploits this to shift Chizome from the Villain Rehabilitation Program to the Vigilante Rehabilitation Program, in turn giving him the opportunity to take the Provisional License Exam and become a legitimate Hero Course Student.
    Bunny

  • Charm Person: While the exact details are unknown, Kyoka's internship with her allowed her to confirm that Bunny's Quirk is some kind of charm effect. She claims it's called "Seduction" and allows her to seduce anyone into obeying her, but Kyoka is able to pick up with her hearing that she actually asks "would you kindly" when she uses it, without opening her mouth, causing her to think she's using some form of ventriloquism. Stone Crusher, the villain she uses her Quirk on during her debut, likewise notes she somehow made him obey her, but was fully cognizant when it happened.
  • Friends with Benefits: Since becoming a Pro-Hero, she's entered several casual flings with other Pro's, specifically Nemuri, Yu, and Kanako.
  • O.C. Stand-in: "Bunny" is based on a villain wearing a Playboy Bunny outfit briefly seen amidst the villains confronting Momo, Kyoka, and Denki. Aside from her design though, her character is entirely original, being an ordinary thief who got swept in with other mooks over the notion of taking out All Might but otherwise in over her head, unable to back out under threat of being dusted by Tomura, and breaking down while being protected by Momo's group about her life being a series of bad decisions. Nezu proceeds to fake her death and enlists her in his Villain Rehabilitation program after learning she helped his students fight the Avalon Strider Robot, letting her reinvent herself as a hero in training, typically accompanying either Kantō or Nemuri.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Her real name is unknown, and she's only ever referred to as "Bunny", it later being made into her official Pro-Hero name.
    "Konako Kokuu"

Konako Haizono — Dusty Ash

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/konako_haizono_profile.png

  • Death Faked for You: Officially, "Dusty Ash" died during a prison riot while stuck in the medical wing a year before the main story, Giran even reporting such to Tomura when presenting the rest of the Volcano Thieves as potential recruits for the League of Villains. In truth, she's still alive, living under a new identity as UA's Librarian.
  • Disabled in the Adaptation: At some point, she lost her left leg due to friendly fire courtesy of Volcano, which left her holed up in the medical wing during the prison riot where she allegedly died. Presently, she has a prosthetic leg that she keeps a club hidden in.
  • Hero Killer: She purportedly crippled dozens of police officers and two Pro-Heroes during her career, but it's unclear how many causalities she has to her name. It's later explained that several of her victims were sidekicks of Endeavor's, and they were indeed killed.
  • No Honor Among Thieves: A sympathetic case. After Volcano ended up causing her to lose her leg and left her on her own during the prison riot thought to have taken her life, Konako saw no issue going for the sphere of solid gold he had hidden prior to their arrest and taking it for herself, proudly displaying it in her library. When Bunny asked her why exactly she had it, she said she had it both to spite the asshole, and to use as a potential retirement fund.
  • Noodle Incident: How Nezu managed to meet and recruit her is unsaid during the chapter she first physically appeared, particularly due to the fact that, beforehand, she was believed to have suffered Death by Adaptation based on what Giran said.
  • Out of Focus: In comparison to the other members of the Rehabilitation Program, Konako has yet to gain any significant focus in the story. Possibility justified in that she is the only one not training to be a hero.
  • Serious Business: Do not damage any of her books. If you do, she'll pull out a club from her prosthetic and beat the ass of whoever did so.
    Class 1-J Homeroom Teacher

Danjuro Tobita — Gentle Hero

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_c2198eb5067862dbc6b363a8aab93cde_1cb74362_1280.png

  • Meaningful Rename: Since he's no longer a "Criminal" and finally achieved his childhood dream, he changed his name from "Gentle Criminal" to "Gentle Hero".
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Danjuro finally gets to achieve his childhood dream of being an actual Hero courtesy of Nezu, as well as teaching the next generation how to better manage themselves.
    IT Department Head

Manami Aiba — La Brava

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bravaanime_3.png

  • The Cracker: Her hacking skills land her the position of both the head of UA's IT Department and the task of hacking into the systems of organizations Nezu and Horoguramu suspect of illicit activity and require evidence to arrest.
