The Cog of Niðavellir

In Book V of Fire Emblem Heroes, Askr is under attack from the forces of Niðavellir, a technologically advanced land whose royalty can ride and fight in mechanical mounts.

    Realm of Niðavellir in General
  • Animal Motifs: Boars, since their Gullinbursti is based on a boar in Norse Mythology.
  • Elite Mooks: From the Book V midpoint on (and cameo appearing in some Hero battles released around the time period), Steam Units are mechanical cavaliers that can either be Sword, Lance, or Axe. They also have a Sacred Seal that gives them the Canto (Rem) status too.
  • Eternal Engine: Niðavellir's entire realm (including its outdoor sections and even its castle) are full of industrial factories, complete with steam pipes, cogs, industrial soldiers, and and other mechanical machines. While the Forest of the Sage is a notable exception, it does still have video cameras visible in the background, and the sage Eitri herself is responsible for the nation's advanced technology.
  • Form-Fitting Wardrobe: They all tend to have their base outfit be a skintight bodysuit, either showing off their muscles or curves through the fabric. When Ike appears wearing an outfit from their realm, he ends up expressing frustration at having to wear something so restrictive.
  • Freaky Electronic Music: They have this as their theme, with Industrial beats included as well.
  • Gathering Steam: Inverted, ironically for the royal family of a Steampunk kingdom. Reginn and Ótr perform best at the beginning of the battle, but their combat abilities taper off as the battle goes on. Reginn's Seiðr Shell and Ótr's Brutal Shell allows them to charge it instantly at turn 1, but has a 3 special cooldown, meaning that they can deal great damage on their first attack but have to recharge their specials to activate it again, meaning that they have to go into more battles to charge it up and use it again, and Regular Reginn's Lyngheiðr and Ótr's Auto-Lofnheiðr having access to [Canto (3)] and Eitri's Grim Brokkr, New Year Fáfnir's Niðavellir Sprig and New Year Reginn's Niðavellir Lots having [Canto (2)] for the first 4 turns means that they can perform Hit-and-Run Tactics well, but are unable to do so after turn 4, meaning that if they don't want to get stranded and take hits from more foes than they can handle they have to act as early and quickly as possible.
  • Helmets Are Hardly Heroic: More of "Closed Cockpits are Hardly Heroic", but compared to the Gullinbursti of the generic soldiers of Niðavellir, the Gullinbursti of the royal family leave their cockpits open.
  • Hit-and-Run Tactics: The favored tactics of Niðavellir, with the Gullinbursti the dvergar ride in allows them to do this thanks to [Canto]. While the royal family have [Canto (3)] on their weapons to allow them to move 3 spaces after taking an action once per turn and Eitri and the seasonal variants of Fáfnir and Reginn have [Canto (2)] to do the same thing with only 2 spaces instead, both activating for the first 4 turns, the Steam units have [Canto (Rem.)] thanks to the Gullinbursti Sacred Seal they're equipped with to move spaces equal to the remainder of the spaces they did not use yet after taking an action once per turn.
  • Jack of All Stats: The Steam units have above average HP, Atk, Spd, and Def, but below average Res.
  • Magitek: Called "Seiðjárn" note , Niðavellir found a way to combine both magic and science and use it to their advantage.
  • Mini-Mecha: Called "Gullinbursti", these roughly man-sized boar-shaped suits of metal made for combat allows massive mobility and firepower to the dvergar, giving them the appearance of a centaur when they ride in them.
  • Our Dwarves Are All the Same: Subverted. The depiction of dwarves here is rather different to traditional dwarves. While the dvergar of Heroes are smaller than the average human, they seem to be based more on proportionate dwarves as opposed to the more common disproportionate dwarves, but the official Guidebook states that most of them are around the average height for humans. Unlike the common depiction of traditional dwarves, dvergar males lack absurdly long beards. In fact none of the known males have facial hair at all. The dvergar are also incredibly technologically advanced with access to Magitek, and live in a steampunk realm.
  • Servant Race: They were initially a servant race to the jötnar, until one dvergr used their craft to create great weapons for the dvergar to fight on equal footing against the jötnar, later gaining independence and naming the dvergr that liberated them king of Niðavellir.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: Subverted. While the dvergar are seemingly shorter than the average human and their Gullinbursti mecha being only slightly taller than the average man and have an entire Magitek-based society far above the other realms seen in Heroes, the official Guidebook officially states that at least the royal family are around the average height for humans, with the tallest of the royal family being Fáfnir at 6 feet tall, just an inch over Alfonse, and the shortest one being Reginn at 5 feet 4 inches, the same height as Sharena. Played Straight with Eitri, who stands just above 4 feet tall and is responsible for the development of many inventions in Niðavellir, even from the inception of Niðavellir and through her exploits with different bodies and names through the years.
  • Shoulders of Doom: Gullinbursti have large shoulders that serve as a storage unit for their mounted machine guns and missile launchers, and belong to a mostly hostile faction.
  • Steampunk: Niðavellir is an entire realm full of brass pipes, steam, and fog. Fittingly, they are also technologically more advanced than the other realms of Heroes.
  • Technologically Advanced Foe: They are technologically more advanced than the Order of Heroes, with access to machine guns and missiles on their Mini Mechas.

King of Desolation / Fresh Ambition
"Explain to me why I should care for someone so clearly worthless. Sisters be damned. If the Askrans dispose of her, that's one less piece of trash I need to deal with myself. Perhaps I should thank them for saving me the time and effort, hm?"

The king of Niðavellir and older brother of Reginn and Ótr, whom he adopted when the both of them were younger, he was once kind until a certain incident made him a cruel tyrant.

Voiced by: Kazuki Katō (Japanese), Griffin Puatu (English)
Artist: Kozaki Yusuke (regular), Niji Hayashi (Like Clockwork)
Class: Lance Cavalier (regular), Red Dagger Cavalry (Like Clockwork), Colorless Armoured Breath (Dragon)

  • Ace Custom: As king of Niðavellir, his Gullinbursti is different than the ones piloted by his adoptive siblings and his soldiers, as it is black with gold highlights, has an open cockpit, arms directly controlled by the pilot, purple caparisons with a gold Niðavellir insignia on each side worn on the back hips, a giant spike on each pauldron, and a bust with a gold fan crown above the cockpit.
  • Action Initiative:
    • His New Year variant's Niðavellir Sprig allows him to ignore skills that deny any of his follow-up attacks if he either initiates combat or is not adjacent to an ally.
    • His dragon form's Scalding Breath allows him to ignore skills that deny any of his follow-up attacks and guarantee the foe's follow-up attacks if the foe either initiates combat or has at least 75% HP at the start of combat.
  • Amnesiac Resonance: In his original world, he fought in a military of a small country where he rose up the ranks to provide to his family. When he was summoned into Zenith, he fought to become the king of Niðavellir to help out Ótr and Reginn who reminded him of his original family.
  • Anti-Debuff: His New Year variant has Rouse Atk/Def 4, where, in addition to granting him +6 Atk/Def at the start of his turn, also grants him the [Null Panic] status effect at the start of his turn if he is not adjacent to an ally, where it disables the coverting field stat buffs into field stat debuffs effect of the [Panic] status effect.
  • Arc Villain: He's the main antagonist of Book V. Zig-zagged as he's actually the pawn of Eitri, but he serves as the most persistent threat to Askr due to this.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Got his position by his own strength, and easily subdues the Order of Heroes in his first encounter with them, threatening to tear Sharena's eyes out and rip the Summoner's heart out with his bare hands to show to Alfonse.
  • Ax-Crazy: Fáfnir is completely off his rocker, best shown when he threatens to gouge Sharena's eyes out and rip out the Summoner's heart.
  • Bad Boss: Is willing to send his adoptive siblings to war, but doesn't care if they live or die. In fact, when he hears Reginn was "captured" by Askr, he is relieved, because to him that meant they would take care of her instead of him.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: In the "Like Clockwork" paralogue, Dagr and Nott tell him that Reginn wants to go to the shrine with him. Fafnir starts to ask why he would take her, then after Dagr interrupts by saying that he should accept a sibling's invitation to go to the shrine, he clarifies and says that he had no idea Reginn wanted to go with him.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Is very clearly this based on the trailer. As the Book V - The False Monarch cutscene reveals, the culprit pulling the strings would be Eitri.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Subverted. At first, it seems like Fáfnir the first Arc Villain to not be a green unit, being blue instead. Then later, it is revealed that he isn't the true villain of Book V. The real villain, Eitri, is a green mage.
  • Cain and Abel: He and Ótr are the Cains to Reginn's Abel.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Previous main villains attack the heroes of their own free will. Fáfnir, on the other hand, is just some schmuck who had the misfortune of being caught between Eitri's mad science and Ótr's obsessive desire for love, forcibly corrupting him.
  • Cool Crown: As king of Niðavellir, he wears a circlet named the Crown of the Dvergar that is in the shape of a dragon's silhouette, which grants the wearer strength to defend the realm. However, going by the Book V movie, it's implied to be a binding device that's brainwashing him into a cruel tyrant, although Eitri explains that the strength it gave Fáfnir is unprecedented, meaning that it gave Fáfnir more strength than the past kings, but most likely at the cost of his sanity. Book V Chapter 9 implies that it was also unprecedented because Fáfnir wasn't born in Niðavellir, which may add another variable on his increased strength compared to past dvergar kings.
  • Cooldown Manipulation:
    • His regular variant inflicts the Inverted variation with his Hreiðmarr, which he not only inflicts -1 special buildup on the foe per attack if he's not adjacent to an ally, he also inflicts the [Guard] status effect to the target and all foes within 2 spaces of the target after combat if he attacked.
    • His dragon form's Scalding Breath also inflicts the Inverted variation by allowing him to inflict -1 special buildup on the foe per attack during combat if he is not adjacent to an ally and the foe either initiates combat or has at least 75% HP at the start of combat.
    • His New Year variant inflict the Inverted variation with his Niðavellir Sprig by allowing him to inflict -1 special buildup on the foe per attack during combat if he either initiates combat or is is not adjacent to an ally.
  • Criminal Amnesiac: "Fáfnir" is actually a man from another world summoned by Eitri and her fake Breidablik. While he is the only one summoned who didn't go completely crazy, he still lost his memories, leading him to take over Niðavellir and eventually attack Askr in an unconscious attempt to return back to his homeworld.
  • Crown of Power: As king of Niðavellir, he wears the Crown of the Dvergar, which provides the wearer strength to allow the wearer to protect the realm from threats. However, Eitri notes that the strength the Crown of the Dvergar gives Fáfnir is unprecedented, meaning that it gave him more power than the previous kings of Niðavellir. Said Crown also can only be removed from the wearer either by the wearer's will or on their death.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: His New Year variant's Niðavellir Sprig has the standard effect of [Dagger 7], which inflicts -7 Def/Res to the target and all foes within 2 spaces of the target after combat if he attacked.
  • Dark Is Evil: His Gullinbursti, in addition to having a large spike on each shoulder and a bust on top of the cockpit, is colored black with purple accents compared to the brass-colored Gullinbursti owned by his siblings. And that's not going into his mechanical dragon form.
  • Deal with the Devil: At the end of Book V Chapter 8, he gets an offer from Loki to be free from his imprisonment in Askr in exchange for him doing something for her. Book V Chapter 9 reveals that Loki's offer was for him to invade Embla.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: He is fought without his invincibility Seal on Book V Chapter 8, but the story does not end after his capture, as Eitri was the one controlling Fáfnir and plans to destroy Askr's gates.
  • Draconic Abomination: In the Book V - The False Monarch movie Eitri forces him to transform into a mechanical dragon with six legs, multiple red eyes on its face and side that shoot lasers, exhaust pipes coming from its back, a large spike on each shoulder on the front two legs, and cogs coming from its spine like fins, being an unholy fusion of Fáfnir and his Ace Custom Gullinbursti. In Book V Chapter 11, his mechanical dragon form is fought as an armoured colourless dragon.
  • Dying as Yourself: Book V Chapter 12 has "Fáfnir's" last moments die not only as the once kind king and brother to Reginn and Ótr, but also the once lowly soldier that rose through the ranks to provide for his wife and daughter and give them a good life.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: Fáfnir's hair is dark and his skin is eerily pale, especially compared to his siblings (even if they are not related by blood).
  • Evil Counterpart: Chapter 9 reveals he is this to Kiran/The Summoner. Both were abducted from another world to serve their respective kingdoms, and have royal siblings as companions. The difference being that Fáfnir is an amnesiac summoned for conquest while Kiran was summoned to help defend Askr, and kept their sanity intact. Furthermore, Alfonse and Sharena love each other very much, while Ótr and Reginn have a much less healthy relationship.
  • Evil Laugh: He's fond of evil laughs to show his sadistic nature, highlighted when he defeats his foes in Book V Chapter 3.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: After Eitri fully corrupts him into a dragon, his character art changes his hairstyle from the neat slicked-back look he had previously to a more deranged and unkempt style.
  • Extra Eyes: His mechanical dragon form has more than a few dozen eyes, most of them being on his back, belly and sides.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: Fáfnir's mechanical dragon form has numerous eyes on its chin, back, and sides of Fáfnir.
  • Finishing Move: His finishing attack has him shoot down his foe with More Dakka and finish them off with a pair of missiles.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: When he assumes his mechanical dragon form, he possesses great power, his eyes are glowing, and he's incapable of being reasoned with.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: Once Eitri reveals that Fáfnir isn't really a native of Niðavellir and that she was the one who summoned him from another world in a failed experiment that ended up erasing his memories, his facial expressions show nothing but utter horror before she begins to use him.
  • Happily Married: Book V Chapter 12 reveals that "Fáfnir" had a wife and daughter and was a lowly soldier that was fighting for their sakes and happiness before he was summoned to Niðavellir.
  • The Heavy: Fáfnir is the one who invades the Kingdom of Askr. Though he isn't the true villain of the story.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: At the end of Chapter 10, he declares that he doesn't want to kill anymore. Unfortunately for him, he's become a liability to Eitri and Ótr still refuses to let go of him, so they transform him into a mindless dragon and set him off on a rampage.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: You can't damage him; all you can do is run away. Until Book V, Chapter 8 that is.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: He has blue eyes to highlight his cold and cruel nature. They become red when he's in his mechanical dragon form.
  • Identity Amnesia: Book V Chapter 12 reveals that his name is not "Fáfnir", but it is unrevealed on what his real name is.
  • Invincible Villain: His Niðavellir Axiom Sacred Seal makes him immune to all damage. The only time he does not have Niðavellir Axiom equipped is when he has his headache when he's near the Gate at Askr in Book V Chapter 8, where the Order of Heroes eventually defeats and captures him.
  • I Work Alone:
    • His regular variant's Hreiðmarr gives him +5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat and inflict -1 special buildup on the foe per attack, and after combat if he attacked he inflicts the [Guard] status effect to the target and all foes within 2 spaces of the target after combat if he's not adjacent to an ally. In his mechanical dragon form, his Scalding Breath only has the former effect, but still requires the solo condition.
    • His New Year variant's Niðavellir Sprig is a Downplayed example, where it grant him +5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat, ignores skills that deny any of his follow-up attacks, and inflicts -1 special buildup per attack on the foe during combat, all which activates if he either initiates combat or is not adjacent to an ally. He also learns Atk/Spd Solo 4 and Rouse Atk/Def 4, which plays this straight, as Atk/Spd Solo 4 grants him +7 Atk/Spd during combat, and Rouse Atk/Def grants him +6 Atk/Def and the [Null Panic] status effect at the start of his turn, both which activates if he is not adjacent to an ally.
  • Killed Off for Real: He dies at the end of Book V Chapter 12 at the hands of a Gramr-wielding Reginn, but not before he recovers his memories and personality before he was summoned to Niðavellir by Eitri.
  • Laughing Mad: He maniacally laughs when he defeats another country he invaded in Book V Chapter 3, and is an unstable individual.
  • Lightning Bruiser:
    • His regular variant has great Atk, Spd, and Def, and average HP, but poor Res. His mechanical dragon form on the other hand has fantastic Spd, great Atk, good HP and Def, and above average Res.
    • His New Year variant has outstanding Atk at 43, great Spd at 39, and average HP at 40 and Def at 31, but poor Res at 16.
  • Mechanical Abomination: In the Book V - The False Monarch cutscene, Eitri forces him to transform into some sort of mechanical dragon beast, which becomes an enemy unit to fight in Book V Chapter 11.
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: His mechanical dragon form has a large amount of fairly large teeth lining his entire mouth.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Much like Surtr in Book II, Fáfnir has an enemy-exclusive Sacred Seal, Niðavellir Axiom, which protects him from all damage that he would normally take. He eventually loses it though in Book V Chapter 8 and beyond, letting you defeat him like normal.
  • No Brows: He has no eyebrows, or if there are any, they're too thin to visibly see on him.
  • No-Sell: His dragon form's Scalding Breath allows him to ignore skills that deny any of his follow-up attacks and guarantee the foe's follow-up attacks if the foe either initiates combat or has at least 75% HP at the start of combat.
  • Older Than He Looks: He doesn't look dramatically older than his two siblings so it comes across as a shock to Reginn when it is revealed that he was previously married and had a daughter.
  • Power Glows: His regular variant's Hreiðmarr glows purple when he's using a skill.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "Struggle!"
    "Prove yourself!"
    "I will tame you!"
    "I AM king!"
    "DIE!" (Dragon)
    "DEATH, DEATH, DEATH..." (Dragon)
    "GRAAAAGH!" (Dragon)
    "AAAAAAAGH!" (Dragon)
  • Promoted to Playable: Downplayed, but he is playable with the release of his New Year variant before his regular variant in January 2022.
  • Purple Is Powerful: His Gullinbursti, Hreiðmarr, and outfit all have purple accents, giving him an aesthetic that wouldn't be out of place in the Kingdom of Nohr, and he's a powerful warrior who easily subdues the Order of Heroes.
  • Raised by Natives: Book V Chapter 9 implies that Fáfnir is not actually born in Niðavellir and was raised to be a dvergr of Niðavellir and later become the new King of Niðavellir after the death of the previous one. However, since the gates of the Tower of Niðavellir would only open if one is both born in Niðavellir and wears the Crown of the Dvergar, the latter condition was met and still did not open for Fáfnir, meaning that the former was not. Book V Chapter 10 confirms that he was not born in Niðavellir and was actually incompletely summoned by Eitri from another world.
  • Rags to Royalty: His bio states he went from a simple soldier to the king of Niðavellir. Book V Chapter 9 implies and Chapter 10 confirms that he was also not born in Niðavellir.
  • Recurring Element:
    • Similar to a few units from Book I and Surtr from Book II, Fáfnir possesses a seal that lets him No-Sell any attack, making his battle into a Hopeless Boss Fight.
    • In a more meta sense, he's a Might Makes Right Asskicking Leads to Leadership antagonist similar to Ashnard and Walhart. On a similar note, the fact that he was brainwashed by Eitri harkens back to "good guy becomes brainwashed and forced into evil" people similar to Hardin. He's also similar to Garon, as his mechanical dragon form not only resembles Garon's dragon form, Garon was also stated to be a good man but became a tyrant, literally losing his humanity as he assumes a more draconic or demonic form depending on the route.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: When he's forced to transform into a mechanical dragon by Eitri in the Book V - The False Monarch movie, his eyes glow bright red before his mechanical dragon form's many eyes also start glowing red.
  • Refused by the Call: Book V Chapter 9 reveals that he approached the tower of Niðavellir, but was unable to enter despite carrying the treasure needed to enter. Dagr and Nótt quickly realize that because of this, Fáfnir has no right to the throne and could cause an uproar in the kingdom if word got out.
  • Sadist: If his intentions of tearing Sharena's eyes out to feed them to her brother and ripping the Summoner's heart out with his bare hands when he defeats the Order of Heroes in Book V Chapter 3 are any indication, then he is certainly this.
  • Sanity Slippage: He used to be a kind man, but he lost his mind prior to Book V. A combination of his incomplete summoning and the crown he wears corrupting him is responsible.
  • Self-Made Man: It's stated that he wasn't originally royalty of his kingdom, but rose to the throne as a mere soldier who proved his strength in the war following the death of the old king and the country being thrown into chaos as a result. Book V Chapter 12 reveals that "Fáfnir" was this in his original world before he was summoned to Niðavellir, where he was once a soldier who fought every day to rise through the ranks to provide for his wife and daughter and give them a good life.
  • The Social Darwinist: As he gained his position through his own strength, he feels that the strong have the right to trample on and rule over the weak, and considers Alfonse a "self-righteous prig" when he challenges him on this because Alfonse was born into his position as Prince of Askr rather than earning it like Fáfnir did.
  • Slasher Smile: One of his facial expressions is a deranged smile.
  • Slouch of Villainy: In the Book V cover art, he sits with his legs widespread while wearing a Psychotic Smirk.
  • Spikes of Villainy: His Gullinbursti has a large spike on each shoulder, and Hreiðmarr's guard is rowed with spikes, both indicators that he's really not the friendliest sort. And that's not going into his mechanical dragon form.
  • Status Buff:
    • His regular variant's Hreiðmarr grants him +5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat if he is not adjacent to an ally.
    • His New Year variant's Niðavellir grants him +5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat if he either initiates combat or is not adjacent to an ally. He also has Atk/Spd Solo 4, where it grants him +7 Atk/Spd during combat if he is not adjacent to an ally, and Rouse Atk/Def 4, where it grants him +6 Atk/Def and the [Null Panic] status at the start of his turn if he is not adjacent to an ally.
  • Theme Naming:
    • Fáfnir is one of the dvergr sons of Hreiðmarr, and brother of Reginn, Ótr, Lyngheiðr and Lofnheiðr, who famously transformed into a dragon after becoming greedy by murdering his father and stealing the cursed ring Andvaranaut to find and hoard Andvari's gold.
    • Hreiðmarr is the dvergr king of Niðavellir, known as a sorcerer, and father of Fáfnir, Ótr, Reginn, Lyngheiðr and Lofnheiðr, who was killed by his sons Fáfnir and Reginn to gain the cursed ring Andvaranaut, with Fáfnir wanting all the gold by himself and transformed into a dragon to drive Reginn away.
  • Tragic Villain: Chapter 10 reveals that at his very core, Fáfnir was just a man who desperately just wants to go home, but the people who summoned him have no intention of ever letting him go, and Book V Chapter 12 reveals that he was Happily Married with a wife and daughter in his original world, but now no longer can go back to them as he dies by Reginn's hand.
  • Trapped in Another World: Book V Chapter 10 reveals that Eitri summoned him to Niðavellir with an inferior copy of the Breidablik, and thus was hit with amnesia and raised as King of Niðavellir, but he was later drawn to the Gates of Askr and didn't know why until he confronted Eitri, revealing that the reason he was drawn to the Gates was his desire to go home, with Eitri and Ótr refusing his desire to do so.
  • The Unreveal: In Book V, Chapter 12, once Fáfnir finally regains his memories, he says "My name is...", but his true name is never revealed.
  • Weak Against Magic: His regular and New Year variant has a low Res stat, so he's weak against magical attacks. Too bad he has the Niðavellir Axiom Sacred Seal equipped in Book V to make sure that he takes no damage, until Book V Chapter 8 where he no longer has it equipped. His mechanical dragon form, however, averts this by having above average Res on top of a Lightning Bruiser statline.

Bearing Hope / Bearing Dawn
"Rage has overpowered them, both Fáfnir and Ótr. I need to learn why. I need to fix it, so they don't suffer anymore—or bring more suffering to others. If I can do that, the wars will stop, and we can all live in peace! Right?"

The princess of Niðavellir, the younger sister of Fáfnir and Ótr, and a Mythic Hero of Astra. Defected to the Order of Heroes to stop her brothers from waging war on other nations.

Voiced by: Konomi Kohara (Japanese), Megan Shipman (English)
Artist: Kozaki Yusuke (regular), 8ichibi8 (Like Clockwork)
Class: Sword Cavalier (regular), Blue Cavalier (Like Clockwork)

  • Ace Custom: Book V Chapter 8 reveals that the Gullinbursti she and Ótr pilot are these, as compared to the generic ones they have open cockpits, arms directly controlled by the pilot, and are colored brass instead of dark grey.
  • Arc Heroine: She's the deuteragonist of Book V.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: Her Seiðr Shell, in addition to boosting her damage by 15, allows her to target the lower defensive stat of the foe when it activates.
  • Balance Buff: Her regular version in update 8.2.0 gave her Lyngheiðr a refine, where the refined version now also gives her +6 Atk/Spd and +4 Def/Res during combat, ignores any field stat debuffs she has on her Atk/Spd during combat and reduces damage taken from the foe's first attacks, including both attacks from effects that attack twice in one round, by 40% if she either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally, and the unique refine gives her +4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat, ignore skills that guarantees the foe's follow-up attack and prevent her follow-up attacks and deals damage equal to 20% of her Spd during combat, all which activates if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat, Seiðr Shell+ increases the damage dealt to 20 and also gives -3 special cooldown at the start of turn 4, and she received Panic Smoke 4.
  • Begin with a Finisher: Her Seiðr Shell(+) allows her to instantly charge it on turn 1, allowing her to instant activate it on one foe. Consequently, she needs to either enter combat again or rely on allies that provide Cooldown Manipulation outside of combat to charge it up again.
  • Big Brother Worship: Still looks up to her elder brothers Fáfnir and Ótr despite all that's happened, and hopes both will go back to how they used to be.
  • Birds of a Feather: Regular Reginn debuted alongside Duessel in the same banner together. Both of them dealt with the benevolent ruler of their nation suddenly ordering them to attack neighboring nations and forcing them to fight back to restore order.
  • Blunt "Yes": In Part 5 of Chapter 2.
Ótr: You ask me to join forces with our enemy and war against the mighty Niðavellir?
    Reginn: ...Yes! That's exactly right!
  • Cain and Abel: She's the Abel to Fáfnir and Ótr's Cains.
  • The Chosen One: Chapter 9 all but explicitly states her to be the true heir to the throne of Niðavellir, given how she was able to enter the Tower of Niðavellir without any issue, and the mysterious voice in her head tells her to "depose that heretic Fáfnir". Ótr confirms in Chapter 10 that she is the daughter of the previous King and Queen.
  • Cooldown Manipulation:
    • Her Seiðr Shell allows her to have -3 special cooldown at the start of turn 1, which means that she has Seiðr Shell ready to activate. Her regular version's Seiðr Shell+ also gives her -3 special cooldown at the start of turn 4, meaning that she can stay back a bit and not enter combat to charge it until turn 4 happens.
    • Her New Year variant's Niðavellir Lots grants her -3 special cooldown at the start of turn 4, which can also help her charge her Seiðr Shell again if she triggers it first before turn 4.
  • Cool Sword: Her regular variant's Lyngheiðr gives her +3 Spd, and between turn 1 and turn 4, she has access to [Canto (3)], which after attacking, using an assist skill, or destroying an enemy structure, she can move 3 spaces before ending her turn, but she cannot warp more than 3 spaces during this movement, the unrefined version gives her +6 Atk/Spd during combat and reduce damage from the foe's first attack by 30% if she initiates combat, the refined version gives her +6 Atk/Spd and +4 Def/Res during combat, ignore any field stat debuffs to her Atk/Spd during combat and reduces damage taken from the foe's first attacks, including both attacks from effects that attack twice in one round, by 40% if she either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally, and the unique refine gives her +4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat, ignore skills that guarantees the foe's follow-up attack and prevent her follow-up attacks and deals damage equal to 20% of her Spd during combat, all which activates if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: Her regular variant has access to Lull Spd/Def 3, which inflicts -3 Spd/Def on the foe as well as ignore any bonuses on those stats during combat. She also has Panic Smoke 4, where, in addition to inflicting -3 Atk/Spd/Def/Res and [Panic] on the foe and all foes within 2 spaces of that foe after combat, also gives the [Foe Penalty Doubler]note  status effect to herself and all allies in cardinal directions of her after combat.
  • Damage Reduction: Her regular variant's unrefined Lyngheiðr allows her to reduce damage from the foe's first attack by 30% if the user initiates combat, and the refined version reduces damage taken from the foe's first attacks, including both attacks from effects that attack twice in one round, by 40% if she either initiates combat or sis within 2 spaces of an ally.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Mentions to the Summoner that her and Ótr were orphaned prior to Fáfnir adopting them as his siblings, though she claims to have put the past behind her.
  • Defector from Decadence: Joins the Order of Heroes in response to her brother Fáfnir invading other realms.
  • Extra Turn:
    • Downplayed, but her regular variant's Lyngheiðr has access to [Canto (3)], which after attacking, using an assist skill, or destroying an enemy structure between turn 1 and turn 4, she can move 3 spaces before ending her turn, but she cannot warp more than 3 spaces during this movement and cannot use Canto again during the same turn.
    • Also downplayed with her New Year variant's Niðavellir Lots, which, while having [Canto (2)], functions the same as her Lyngheiðr.
  • Finishing Move: Her finishing attack and Seiðr Shell(+) special animation has her shoot down her foe with More Dakka and finish them off with a pair of missiles.
  • Form-Fitting Wardrobe: Even moreso than other characters from Niðavellir. Like them, she wears a black skintight bodysuit that ends up heavily accentuating her curves even with her being pretty slender.
  • Gender-Blender Name: "Regin" as told in Prose Edda was the adoptive dwarven father of Sigurd and the younger brother to Fáfnir and Ótr.
  • Glass Cannon: Her New Year variant has fantastic Spd at 40 and great Atk at 38, but below average HP at 37, and low Res at 24 and Def at 23.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After her defeat at the hands of Askr, she decides to join them after just attempting to conquer them.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: She's the heroine of Book V and wields swords, compared to the more villainous Ótr and Fáfnir wielding axes and lances respectively.
  • Historical Gender Flip: Reginn from Norse Mythology is a male dvergr blacksmith. In Heroes Reginn is a female dvergr who is also the princess of Niðavellir.
  • Hit-and-Run Tactics: Her regular version's Lyngheiðr and New Year variant's Niðavellir Lots allows her to move again after attacking, using an assist skill, or attacking a structure between turn 1 and turn 4 once per turn allows her to perform a hit-and-run on enemies. Notably, if she is under the AI's control, after she performs her action, she will use Canto to move away from the enemy at the end of her turn.
  • It's All My Fault: Blames herself for Nótt's Heroic Sacrifice, but Alfonse says that as warriors, any one of them could die at any time and Dagr points out it was Nótt's choice to make.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Her regular variant has fantastic Spd of 40, great Atk of 36, and average Def of 30, but below average HP of 38 and below average Res of 24. Her greatest strength lies in her ability to have a lot of firepower when initiating combat, thanks to her weapon's effects and Swift Sparrow 3, at the cost of becoming much more vulnerable when an enemy initiates instead, especially with magic attacks.
  • Male Gaze: Some shots in the Book V - The False Monarch cutscene emphasize her rear and legs as she runs towards the Mechanical Abomination that Fáfnir has become.
  • Mini-Mecha: Her Gullinbursti is in the shape of a brass-colored boar-shaped centaur, which gives her great mobility and strength.
  • No-Sell: The refined verion of her regular version's Lyngheiðr allows her to ignore any field stat debuffs she has on her Atk/Spd during combat if she either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally, and the unique refine has her ignore skill that guarantee the foe's follow-up attacks and deny any of the user's follow-up attacks if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat. She also has Lull Spd/Def 3, which, in addition to inflicting -3 Spd/Def on the foe during combat, also ignore any of the foe's field stat buffs on those stats during combat.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "This is it for you!"
    "I'm going to stop you!"
    "I don't think so!"
    "Just like Fáfnir..."
  • Prone to Tears: After she gets beaten twice, her first action is to break down in tears and ask her brother for forgiveness. Thankfully for her, Alfonse knew from the very beginning she was simply not into the idea of invading Askr. Actually, she's rather prone to crying, whether it's lamenting what went wrong with Ótr, reuniting with the Summoner, or the party comforting her that she isn't alone.
  • Secret Art: Her Seiðr Shell is a 3 cooldown special that allows her to have -3 special cooldown at the start of turn 1, and boosts her damage by 15 and targets the lower defensive stat of the foe when it activates. Her regular version also has Seiðr Shell+ exclusive to her, where it is a 3 cooldown special that allows her to have -3 special cooldown at the start of turns 1 and 4, and boosts her damage by 20 and targets the lower defensive stat of the foe when it activates.
  • Situational Damage Attack: The unique refine for her regular version's Lyngheiðr allows her to deal damage equal to 20% of her Spd during combat if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat, so the more Spd she has the more true damage she will deal.
  • Spy Catsuit: Out of all the dvergar, she has this look, as she's wearing a black bodysuit with only a handful of extra clothing added, compared to her brothers Fáfnir and Ótr.
  • Status Buff:
    • Her regular variant's unrefined Lyngheiðr gives her +6 Atk/Spd during combat if she initiates combat, the refined version gives +6 Atk/Spd and +4 Def/Res during combat if she either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally, and the unique refine gives her an additional +4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat. She also has Swift Sparrow 3, which grants +6 Atk and +7 Spd during combat if she initiates combat.
    • As a Mythic Hero of Astra, if an ally has an Astra Blessing during Astra season, she gives them +5 HP and +3 Atk if they're on the battlefield, which can be stacked with other Mythic Heroes of Astra, including copies of herself.
    • Her New Year variant's Niðavellir Lots gives her +6 Atk/Spd during combat if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat. She also has access to Swift Sparrow 3, where she gains +6 Atk and +7 Spd during combat if she initiates combat, and Cross Spur Atk, where she grants +5 Atk to all allies within cardinal directions of her during combat.
  • Status Effects: Her regular variant has Panic Smoke 4, where after combat she inflicts the target and any enemies within 2 spaces of them the [Panic] status, converting field stat bonuses into penalties.
  • Supreme Chef: She claims to be an excellent cook and is eager to show the Summoner her cooking skills.
  • Theme Naming:
    • Reginn is one of the dvergr sons of Hreiðmarr, and brother of Fáfnir, Ótr, Lyngheiðr, and Lofnheiðr, who became Sigurd's foster father and later repaired the sword Gramr for Sigurd to wield to slay Fáfnir.
    • Lyngheiðr is named after the sister of Reginn, one of two daughters of Hreiðmarr.
  • Tomboy Princess: Sharena describes her as the tomboyish younger sister of King Fáfnir of Niðavellir, complete with the required ponytail.
  • Visual Pun: A girl who uses a centaur-esque mecha has her hair done in a ponytail, and her short cape has a rope that goes behind and ends between her calves in a way similar to a horse's tail.
  • Weak Against Magic: Her regular variant's Res stat is her lowest, giving her a weakness to magic-based attacks.
  • Wrench Wench: Mentions having an interest in trying to understand what makes the machines in her home country tick.

Kingsbrother
"Reginn, you are my sister no longer. As of now, you are my enemy! You've forsaken your homeland, and for that, I will run you through without hesitation! Your only value to me now is as food for the dogs! And then... Then! Then I will be the only family our dear brother has left! HahahaHAHH!"

The prince of Niðavellir and the middle sibling of Fáfnir and Reginn. Worships his older brother Fáfnir, to the point that he would turn his blade against his sister. In late September 2021, he was released as a Mythic Hero of Anima.

  • Ace Custom: Book V Chapter 8 reveals that the Gullinbursti he and Reginn pilot are these, as compared to the generic ones they have open cockpits, arms directly controlled by the pilot, and are colored brass instead of dark grey.
  • Action Initiative:
    • His Lofnheiðr allows him to deny any of the foe's follow-up attacks if he either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally. Auto-Lofnheiðr grants him a follow-up attack instead under the same conditions.
    • His playable variant has Flow Refresh, which allows him to ignore skills that deny any of his follow-up attacks if he initiates combat.
  • Admiring the Abomination: During the Midpoint movie, after Fáfnir is forced by Eitri to transform into a machine dragon monster, instead of expressing shock and/or horror, Ótr is amazed, because he knows that Fáfnir is too far gone to ever consider leaving the kingdom behind.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: His Brutal Shell, in addition to granting -3 special cooldown at the start of turn 1, allows him to ignore 50% of his foe's defenses when it activates.
  • Begin with a Finisher: His Brutal Shell allows him to instantly charge it on turn 1, allowing him to instant activate it on one foe. Consequently, he needs to either enter combat again or rely on allies that provide Cooldown Manipulation outside of combat to charge it up again.
  • Big Brother Worship: Ótr looks up to his brother Fáfnir and would do anything for him. Exemplified when he first has doubts on confronting Reginn, but then he goes mad and chooses to side with his older brother, deeming her a traitor.
  • Cain and Abel: He and Fáfnir are the Cains to Reginn's Abel.
  • Cooldown Manipulation: His Brutal Shell grants him -3 special cooldown at the start of turn 1, which means that he has his Brutal Shell ready to activate.
  • Creepy Shadowed Undereyes: He has these to highlight his descent into madness and obsession with his brother Fáfnir.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff: His playable variant has Atk/Def Menace, where, in addition to granting him +6 Atk/Def at the start of his turn, allows him to inflict -6 Atk/Def on the nearest foe if there is a foe within 4 spaces of him.
  • The Dragon: He serves as one to Fáfnir. It's later revealed that he is actually Eitri's right hand man.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: He's dark haired, pale-skinned, and an antagonist with an unhealthy case of Big Brother Worship towards King Fáfnir. However, his skin is fair compared to Fáfnir, who is eerily pale.
  • Extra Turn: Downplayed, but his Lofnheiðr has access to [Canto (3)], which after attacking, using an assist skill, or destroying an enemy structure between turn 1 and turn 4, he can move 3 spaces before ending her turn, but he cannot warp more than 3 spaces during this movement and cannot use Canto again during the same turn.
  • Finishing Move: His finishing attack has him shoot down his foe with More Dakka and finish them off with a pair of missiles.
  • Foreshadowing: One of his info screen quotes is "Reginn should act more like royalty. Remind her, won't you?" Initially, it seems like he wants her to act like the king's adoptive sister, but it turns out that Reginn really is the princess.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: He has a scar on his left cheek and is very much on the evil side.
  • Heal Thyself: His playable variant has Flow Refresh, which allows him to recover 10 HP after combat if he initiates combat.
  • Hidden Disdain Reveal: Ótr never presented himself as someone who liked Reginn, but Chapter 11 reveals just how much he hates his sister. And by "sister", we mean cousin. Reginn is the legitimate heir to the throne who Ótr believes never lifted a finger to get what she wanted while Ótr himself was just someone who was born inside the castle walls who had to dive through trash to take care of both of them after his parents unintentionally helped with the coup against the royal family. He sees Fáfnir as being the only family he has for helping him out, and absolutely resents Reginn when she tries to kill the transformed Fáfnir.
  • Hit-and-Run Tactics: His (Auto-)Lofnheiðr allows him to move again after attacking, using an assist skill, or attacking a structure between turn 1 and turn 4 once per turn allows him to perform a hit-and-run on enemies, which his Lofnheiðr will under normal circumstances also allow one attack for him and his foes if he initiates thanks to his low Spd and his Lofnheiðr denying any enemy follow-up attacks, while his Auto-Lofnheiðr grants him a guaranteed follow-up attack if he initiates combat, at the cost of granting his foe a follow-up attack thanks to his low Spd.
  • Hidden Depths: Apparently, he turns out to have a fondness for sweets as one of his Castle quotes states.
"*ahem* ...Could you point me to the sweets vendor? You can come along if you wish."
  • Jerkass: Even apart from trying to kill his sister, he's a surly and unfriendly individual who doesn't care for anyone other than Fafnir, as his Info Screen and Level 40 dialogue indicates.
  • Karmic Death: At the end of Book V Chapter 11, Ótr, after having been soundly defeated, still tries to hug Fáfnir and affirm his loyalty — even though he's part of the reason Fáfnir is now a mechanical dragon abomination gone mad that is burning Niðavellir to the ground. Fáfnir finishes Ótr off without a second thought.
  • Killed Off for Real: At the end of Book V Chapter 11, after his defeat against Reginn, a crazed Fáfnir ends up killing him.
  • Laughing Mad: In Book V Chapter 2, he maniacally laughs at the idea of killing his sister Reginn if it means he will be the only sibling left for his brother Fáfnir.
  • Manipulative Bastard: In Book V Chapter 5, he manipulates Nótt's love for him in order to capture the Summoner and the sword Gramr, and uses her to hold off the Order of Heroes while he escapes and returns to Niðavellir with both in hand.
  • Mask of Sanity: He appears to be the calmer of the two brothers, appearing downright civil when something hasn't made him angry, but in truth it's the other way around. Fáfnir at least has the excuse of his madness being caused by an external source (the Dvergar crown) and having Laser-Guided Amnesia (by being summoned from another world). Ótr on the other hand is a legit maniac; all he wants is to remain by Fáfnir's side no matter what, even if that means letting Eitri turn Fáfnir into a monster that will destroy their kingdom and anything beyond, and blatantly refusing Fáfnir's desire to return to his own world.
  • Mighty Glacier: He has by default fantastic Atk at 41, great Def at 40, good Res at 35, average HP at 41, but poor Spd at 17.
  • Mini-Mecha: His Gullinbursti is in the shape of a centaur, which gives him great mobility and strength.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "You can't hide from me."
    "Quiet, scum!"
    "Enough, weakling!"
    "For Fáfnir!"
  • Promoted to Playable: He was released as a Mythic Hero in late September 2021, which was before Book V had finished, but after he is Killed Off for Real in Book V Chapter 11.
  • Redemption Promotion: His playable variant has more Def and Res, as well as access to Brutal Shell, over his enemy variant.
  • Secret Art: Brutal Shell, his unique Special on his playable variant. It has a charge of 3, grants him 3 charges at the start of the map (thus pre-charging it), and when it activates, ignores half of his foe's Def. This effect is in its entirety an upgraded, pre-charged Luna at the start of each map.
  • Spikes of Villainy: (Auto-)Lofnheiðr is partially covered in spikes, and its wielder happens to be a villain.
  • Status Buff: His playable version has Auto-Lofnheiðr, it grants him +6 Atk during combat if he either initiates combat or is within 2 spaces of an ally. He also has Atk/Def Menace, which grants him +6 Atk/Def at the start of his turn if he is within 4 spaces of a foe.
  • Sweet Tooth: One of Ótr's few redeeming qualities is that he loves sweets, according to some of his quotes.
  • Theme Naming:
    • Ótr is one of the dvergr sons of Hreiðmarr, and brother of Fáfnir, Reginn, Lyngheiðr, and Lofnheiðr, who often transformed into an otter, and was accidentally killed by Loki for his pelt while in that form.
    • Lofnheiðr is named after the sister of Ótr, one of two daughters of Hreiðmarr.
  • Unholy Matrimony: In Book V Chapter 5, he confesses to Nótt, the princess and next heir of Jötunheimr, that he intends to marry her, with Nótt returning the favor. Subverted in that Ótr exploits Nótt's love for him in order to manipulate her into giving him the Summoner and the sword Gramr and later on use her to hold off the Order of Heroes, with him later confessing to the Summoner that he never intends to marry Nótt at all, while Nótt herself actually knew that she was being manipulated, but still helped him out on the off chance that Ótr would actually return her feelings.
  • Yandere: Oh boy. He's just as bad as Freyja in this regard when it comes to Fáfnir. Throughout Book V, it becomes increasingly clear that Ótr's devotion to Fáfnir is very unhealthy, going so far as to gaslight him into not needing to remember his memories, and when Fáfnir does regain his memories and wishes to go home in Book V Chapter 10, Ótr makes it very clear that he will not let Fáfnir leave him, even if he lets Eitri turn him into a monster.

Youthful Sage
"Welcome, people of Askr. I am Eitri, a humble scholar. [...] Don't fret. His mood may be no better now, but I can't imagine it getting much worse. Without seiðjárn, Niðavellir would be nothing compared to what it is now. Fáfnir can't afford to punish me."

The forest sage of Niðavellir, who Reginn and the Order of Heroes search for in Book V to find a way to defeat Fáfnir. In late-November 2021, she was released a Legendary Hero of Fire.

Voiced by: Minami Takayama (Japanese), Lisa Reimold (English)
Artist: Kozaki Yusuke
Class: Green Flier

  • Achilles' Heel: Because she is classified as a flier, she is weak against bows and certain tomes.
  • Action Initiative: Her Grim Brokkr, in addition to inflicting -6 Atk/Res on the foe during combat, guarantees her a follow-up attack if she either initiates combat or is not adjacnent to an ally.
  • Arc Villain: The true one of Book V, having brainwashed Fáfnir to act upon her agenda.
  • Been There, Shaped History: Book V Chapter 13 reveals that Eitri has lived for thousands of years and was friends with the first King of Niðavellir, going under the identities Alfrik, Dvalinn, Billingr and Grer, who were famous inventors of Niðavellir as Chapter 12 reveals, while placing her essence in new bodies to extend her longevity, as well as being the one who created the Crown of the Dvergar to give the wearer and descendants of the first King of Niðavellir strength to defend the realm, while also making those not of the royal bloodline go insane, as Fáfnir can attest.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Technically. While she dies in battle against the Order of Heroes, in the end she gets what she wanted, as Reginn assuming the throne ensures that the legacy of Niðavellir's first king will live on. She gleefully lampshades this in the Book V finale movie. However, she probably didn't plan for Reginn to give some control of the kingdom to Dagr, which ends up with Niðavellir in the same situation it was when the first king took over, and which basically turns all of Eitri's plans as All for Nothing in a way. Even then, she says it was in her plans, but it's unclear how much of it is.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In Book V Chapter 3, she arrives to save the Order of Heroes from Fáfnir.
  • Body Surf: Book V Chapter 13 reveals that Eitri lived for a few thousand years old by transferring her essence into new bodies in order to prolong her longevity so that she could watch over Niðavellir long after the first King of Niðavellir passed away. This also means that the hooded man from the beginning of Book V was also her and explains why she is a young girl during the main events of Book V.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Eitri is the first character exclusive to Heroes since the end of Book II with the release of Hríd to be a Legendary Hero instead of a Mythic Hero.
  • Counter-Attack: Her playable version's Divine Recreation allows her to reduce damage taken from the foe's first attack by 30% and boost her next attack equal to the amount of damage reduced until the end of that battle if the foe has at least 50% HP at the start of combat.
  • Cute Is Evil: Sure, she looks like an adorable young girl, but she's quite the evil and twisted villain.
  • Cute Witch: She has this appearance, with her wearing a witch hat, her seemingly young appearance, and her being called a sage.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff:
    • Her Grim Brokkr, in addition to guaranteeing her a follow-up attack, has her inflict -6 Atk/Res on the foe during combat if she either initiates it or is not adjacent to an ally.
    • Her playable variant has Divine Recreation, where, in addition to granting her 30% damage reduced from the foe's first attack and adding that amount to her next attack until the end of battle, allows her to inflict -4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res on her foe during combat if they have at least 50% HP at the start of combat. She also has Atk/Res Rein, which allows her to inflict -4 Atk/Res on foes within 2 spaces of her during combat.
  • Damage Reduction: Her playable version has Divine Recreation, where, in addition to inflicting -4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res on her foe during combat, allows her to reduce damage taken from the foe's first attack by 30% if the foe has at least 50% HP at the start of combat.
  • Defector from Decadence: Turns her back on Fáfnir because he in her eyes has gone too far, referring to him as "an abomination". Of course, this doesn't stop her from creating her own nefarious schemes, and it's later revealed that she actually brainwashed Fáfnir.
  • Didn't Think This Through: While she has calculated everything for Niðavellir to return the true heir Reginn back to the throne and even had the foresight to see the possibility of Reginn going against her by having the Niðavellir Axiom to protect her from harm, ultimately Eitri didn't consider that Reginn would use Gramr against her to remove her invulnerability, resulting in Eitri's death at the end of Book V.
  • Dragon Ancestry: Alfonse asks if Eitri has this when she mentions her being a few thousand years old. She denies this but does say she learned from a dragon to achieve it.
  • Evil All Along: Chapter 6 reveals that Eitri wasn't actually on the Order of Heroes' side, and she was just playing them for fools, telling only half-truths to get what she truly wanted.
  • Exact Words: In her debut, she says that Fáfnir can't afford to punish her. That's because she's controlling him with the crown.
  • Expecting Someone Taller: Sharena in Book V Chapter 3 was expecting Eitri to be a male dvergr with a long beard, like a classical dwarf. She was later surprised that the little girl that rescued her and the Order of Heroes is Eitri herself.
  • Final Boss: She is the last enemy faced in Book V.
  • Foreshadowing: A subtle one, but in the Book V cover art, she is seen sitting behind Fáfnir. She's later revealed as the true villain of Book V while using Fáfnir as a pawn.
  • Girlish Pigtails: As revealed in the Book V finale video, her hairstyle is actually this, though it can really only be seen from behind.
  • Historical Gender Flip: Eitri from Norse Mythology is a male dvergr blacksmith. In Heroes Eitri is a female dvergr sage. Though the reveal she has undergone Body Surf does bring up the question if all her past bodies were female or some being male, and if so what her original body was.
  • I Work Alone:
    • Her Grim Brokkr is a downplayed example, as it allows her to inflict -6 Atk/Res on the foe during combat and guarantees her a follow-up attack if she either initaites it or is not adjacent to an ally.
    • Her playable variant has Atk/Res Solo 4, which grants her +7 Atk/Res during combat if she is not adjacent to an ally during combat.
  • Jack of All Stats: Her stats are fairly balanced, with great Atk at 41, average Def and Res at 30 and 31 respectively, and below average HP at 37 and Spd at 29.
  • Julius Beethoven da Vinci: In-universe. Book V Chapter 13 reveals that she once gone under the names Alfrik, Dvalinn, Billingr and Grer in the past, who all were famous inventors of Niðavellir, with her having a new name for every new body she goes through.
  • Kick the Dog: Her lv. 40 conversation has her mention being roped into a hide-and-seek game with a manakete, and then she proceeded to vanish and made them cry.
  • Lack of Empathy: When finally confronted about the countless lives she helped destroy due to Fáfnir's rampage, her simple and blunt reply is that they were a necessary sacrifice. Throughout this entire exchange and the battle that follows, her demeanor remains cold and calculating as ever; her love for her kingdom is the only reason she's not The Sociopath.
  • Loophole Abuse: The Forging Bonds event "Losing Control" reveals she attempted to get around how her knock-off Breidablik kept summoning Heroes that end up with their minds and souls broken from the process by summoning the titular four Heroes who were already mentally compromised and thus in theory wouldn't be affected. It worked...but their natural instability still leads them to either attacking each other or trying to attack her and Ótr.
  • Mad Scientist: She is trying to replicate Kiran's Breidablik to be able to summon heroes for the realm, but even knowing that doing a sudden test run against the Order of Heroes wouldn't show complete results, she still went ahead with it. The result ended up summoning heroes, albeit with their souls shattered, turning them into nothing but husks. The Askr trio is very much disgusted that she doesn't feel remorse for destroying innocent heroes' souls For Science!.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Eitri is the one who brainwashed Fáfnir into doing her bidding, and is the true villain of Book V.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Book V Chapter 13-2 has her be equipped with Niðavellir Axiom like Fáfnir before her to make her invulnerable against Reginn and the Order of Heroes. She later loses it when Reginn uses Gramr against her.
  • No Body Left Behind: When she dies at the end of Book V, her body is reduced to dust, likely due to her body being artificially produced to Body Surf into to prolong her longevity.
  • No Man Should Have This Power: Askr's Breidablik is something Eitri views as a terrible threat to Niðavellir, and should thus be stopped... though she makes this judgment without considering that Askr wouldn't want to invade Niðavellir with that power.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: In the Book V ending movie she points out that, yes, she did summon people as a means to an end... but so has the Summoner. She points out that they've summoned individuals ranging from kings, the dead, even gods and insinuates that they don't have much ground to criticize her for what she's done with the people she summoned.
  • Power Floats: She is seen levitating without the aid of a mount, and so she is classified as a flying unit.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: She only rescues the party from Fáfnir because him killing the Summoner would have been detrimental to her own plans. Book V Chapter 13 reveals that it was also to protect the true heir to the throne Reginn since she is the descendant of her friend the first King of Niðavellir.
  • Prehensile Hair: Uses her hair to hold her weapon, Grim Brokkr.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "How about..."
    "Let's try...this!"
    "How thoughtless."
"You shouldn't get in my way."
  • Promoted to Playable: She was released as a Legendary Hero in late November 2021, which was just after Book V has finished, and after her death in said Book.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Book V Chapter 13 reveals that Eitri has lived about a few thousand years, ever since the founding of Niðavellir, having Body Surfed through new bodies and going under new identities while doing so.
  • Redemption Promotion: Her playable variant has access to Divine Recreation over her enemy variant.
  • Secret Art: Her playable variant has Divine Recreation, where if the foe has at least 50% HP at the start of combat, she inflicts -4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res on the foe during combat, reduces damage taken from their first attack by 30% and boost her next attack equal to the amount of damage reduced until the end of that battle.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: Reginn describes her as a inventor, and unlike the other dvergar, her proportions are more in line with a standard dwarf.
  • Slasher Smile: Several, particularly after her true colors are revealed.
    • She gives a terrifying one at the end of the Midpoint movie that would make Dio Brando proud.
    • Her special art gives her a wide nasty grin that takes up a almost half of her face.
    • The finale movie has her giving more when she gives her speech of accomplishing her goals and how the Summoner is no different from her.
  • Status Buff:
    • Her playable variant has Atk/Res Solo 4, which grants her +7 Atk/Res during combat if she is not adjacent to an ally during combat.
    • If an ally has a Fire Blessing during Fire Season, she gives them +3 HP if they're on the battlefield, which can be stacked with other Legendary Heroes of Fire, including copies of herself.
  • Theme Naming: Eitri (sometimes called Sindri) is a dvergr and brother of Brokkr, whom the both of them together forged the golden boar Gullinbursti, the golden ring Draupnir, and the hammer Mjölnir.
  • Trap Master: Her area of the forest is filled with traps she made in order to dissuade intruders, with Sharena nearly meeting her end when she accidentally triggers a hidden spike pit trap.
  • Uncertain Doom: While she is slain at the end of Book V, this is just after the reveal that she frequently indulges in Body Surf. She may not be gone. The Book V finale movie just continues the mystery, as she's all alone in a foggy void illuminated by a sickly golden light and makes mention that she "can do [the Summoner] no harm in this state" despite being able to send a message to the Summoner and that she's "taking her leave".
  • Undying Loyalty: Despite the first king of Niðavellir being long dead, she has spent every of her thousands of years of life dutifully serving the kingdom they built and trying to secure its ultimate safety.
  • Utopia Justifies the Means: Eitri is unflappably loyal to the first king of Niðavellir, and their kingdom is their brainchild; she will not rest until Niðavellir becomes the peerless and mighty kingdom of Magitek they envisioned. This means she sees absolutely no problem with burning the currently usurped Niðavellir and most of its citizens to the ground for a fresh start, nor with involving other kingdoms in the tragedy.
  • Villain Has a Point:
    • When Reginn tells Eitri that all she wants is for Fáfnir and Ótr to come back to life, Eitri points out that she is with the Summoner. If she wants to see her brothers again, all she needs to do is ask them to do so. While she does acknowledge that they might be slightly different from the ones we know and everyone rejects her proposal, considering the fact that the player can quite easily summon those who have died, up and including Ótr, it is technically possible for Reginn to summon replacement brothers, even if the ones she knew are gone.
    • In the Book V ending movie Eitri calls out the Summoner's self-righteousness for criticizing her for summoning people for her experiments. She points out that the Summoner is essentially doing the same thing Eitri has, adding kings, the dead, and even gods to Askr's army. While the Summoner is far nicer about it, and the process isn't as potentially dangerous for the summoned heroes, Eitri's not wrong that they've been uprooting heroes from their lives just to have them fight someone else's war.
  • Villainous Friendship: Book V Chapter 13 reveals that Eitri is friends with Loki, whom the latter gave the former powers to defend and serve Niðavellir.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's very hard to bring up Eitri without talking about her involvement in the story of Book V.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: While Eitri did some horrible things, especially to "Fáfnir", ultimately she was very loyal and dedicated to Niðavellir since the first King of Niðavellir and friend died to illness and had to take care of it in his stead, and her goal was to free Niðavellir from "Fáfnir's" tyranny and make Reginn return as true heir to the throne.
  • Xanatos Gambit: Eitri's overall plan claims to be this. Whether Ótr and Fáfnir successfully conquer all of the Nine Realms and destroy the gates of Askr, Eitri herself lives or dies, or Reginn ascends the royal throne or not, Eitri claims she still wins, as she got what she wanted out of everything.
  • You Remind Me of X: Book V Chapter 13 has Eitri tell Reginn that she reminds her of the first King of Niðavellir, and as Eitri dies she states that Reginn even looks like him.
