Brodia, the Kingdom of Might

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f8f9060f_cfb2_4ad4_9f68_e7144c56c176.jpeg

Brodia is a militant nation founded in the north-west region of Elyos. It's a prosperous and mighty nation ruled by Morion the Conqueror who values pride and power. Frequently clashes with the neighbouring country of Elusia, home to followers of the Fell Dragon. They possess the ring of the Emblem Roy.

    Kingdom of Brodia in General
  • Death Mountain: The environment of Brodia mixes this with Forest of Perpetual Autumn, with its mountainous landscape and fall-colored trees. Diamant implies it was not the easiest place to build a civilization, noting in a support with Framme that it was only thanks to Lumera's assistance that Brodia was founded.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: In gameplay raising donation levels multiplies how much iron and steel you can gather after battles in Brodia more than any other region. In story, Brodia's mineral resources are so great that despite their lack of other resources they are actually able to prosper after the events of the game simply by switching their economy to one that focuses on exporting ore to other regions.
  • The Ghost: Diamant's and Alcryst's mother is said to still be alive, but she never appears in the game due to having been moved to a safe location during the war.
  • Rock Theme Naming: All of them are named after different types of gemstones:
    • Morion is synonymous for smoky quartz.
    • Diamant is named after diamonds.
    • Alcryst is an anagram of "crystal".
    • Jade and Lapis are named after the gemstones of the same names.
    • Amber is named after the mineral of the same name.
    • Citrinne's name is one letter off from citrine, which is typically associated with certain varieties of quartz.
    • Yunaka's name is derived from unakite while her original name, Larimar, is derived from the rare mineral larimar.
    • Saphir is named after the sapphire.
  • War for Fun and Profit: In Diamant's and Alfred's support, it's mentioned that Brodia's culture considers it honorable to gain things by force, and their people are known for their great ambition, and repeated mentions of how war profits Brodia indicates their economy largely revolves around war and invading other territories to take them over. This is perhaps also motivated by Brodia's relative lack of arable territory and other resources, making a peaceful future for Brodia all the harder to achieve. In Citrinne's supports with Diamant, she also mentions that many nobles have a vested interest in waging war, and will oppose Diamant's efforts to foster peace. Capitalizing on their rich ore supply ends up being vital to reforming Brodia's economy.

The king of Brodia, and Diamant and Alcryst's father.

  • Came Back Wrong: He is sacrificed by Hyacinth and turned into a Corrupted, forcing you to put him down.
  • Composite Character: He seems to combine the character traits of both Chrom's unseen father and King Sumeragi of Hoshido. The former being a Well-Intentioned Extremist that wages war against another country to keep an evil cult in check, but ultimately creates a mess that his children and their friends must clean up. The latter being a loving father and benevolent ruler with a taste for combat whose death stems from walking into an ambush set by the king of a rivaling kingdom and is later turned into an undead servant of the Big Bad. Even his two sons Diamant and Alcryst are very similar personality-wise to Sumeragi's sons Ryoma and Takumi respectively.
  • Create Your Own Villain: He constantly attempted to invade Elusia to keep them in check, and despite his good intentions this resulted in countless innocents being killed and strained the tensions between Brodia and Elusia to their breaking point. His actions have caused so much harm to the Elusians that Ivy and Hortensia only switch sides after he is killed.
  • Deconstruction: Morion would likely be The Heavy of any other Fire Emblem game, but Engage shows just why solving your problems with brute force is a terrible political strategy. Even when he's nominally on your side, his warmongering still causes more problems than it solves, and things only begin to change for the better once he gets himself killed.
  • Dumb Muscle: He's far more "battlefield strength" than brains. Hyacinth knew this, and easily baits him into a fatal trap by taking advantage of his bravado and refusal to back down from a fight.
  • Dying as Yourself: Before he dies he repeats Brodia's mantra one last time, showing that some small fragment of him was able to find peace.
  • Establishing Character Moment: He's first seen casually leaving his castle despite a known invasion threat, and tossing a vital MacGuffin to his son as if playing a game of catch, showing his dull mind for tactics or common sense.
  • Glad He's On Our Side: Alfred says this almost word-for-word when he first meets the guy.
  • Good Is Not Soft: He's a hearty, jovial fellow and a family man, but as Alfred states, his title of "The Conqueror" isn't just for show.
  • Good Parents: He clearly loves both of his sons dearly.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Despite Diamant's warnings, Morion still rushes into the battle against Elusia by himself with very little protection. He pays the ultimate price for it.
  • Pet the Dog: Talking to Céline after a training battle at Brodia Castle reveals that during her first visit to Brodia Castle as a child, she still fondly remembers King Morion giving the young princess headpats, aww!
  • Properly Paranoid: Played with. While he is ultimately proven completely right that the Fell Dragon worshippers really are dangerous and almost everyone quickly grows to regret following Sombron, it’s his attempts to be proactive and keep the Fell Dragon’s cult weak that lead to him becoming a common enemy for Elusia to rally against and his allies to harbour at least some distrust of him, and in the end, his actions are what contribute to enabling Sombron’s rise, which was exactly what he was trying to avoid.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: He has glowing red eyes as one of the Corrupted.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Despite his sons' warnings, he decides to enter the war with Elusia on the battlefield and clings to his kingdom's Honor Before Reason mentality to battle. Since his enemies do not share those same values, he walks right into their trap and gets himself killed.
  • Undignified Death: The poor man is turned into a twisted Corrupted who cannot speak or think, and his last words are only the Brodian creed, unable to give any last words to his sons.
  • Villain of Another Story: He's a warmongerer whose attacks on Elusia have killed many of their innocent civilians, but since he's opposed to the Fell Dragon he's not your problem and he dies before he gets a change to change that, one way or another.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: In contrast to his imposing appearance, Morion turns out to be quite a jovial and kind man, in contrast to his much more serious first son Diamant.
  • The World's Expert (on Getting Killed): Morion is described as demonlike on the battlefield and is renowned as a fighter, but he ultimately stands no chance against Hyacinth and a corrupted Emblem Lyn.

Click to see Alcryst in Fire Emblem Heroes

The second prince of Brodia and Diamant's younger brother. He's pessimistic and has low self-esteem, often devaluing himself by comparing himself to his incredible elder brother. On the other hand, he's sociable with the backbone demanded from royalty.

His personal skill, Get Behind Me!, gives Alcryst +3 Strength for one turn if an ally within two tiles near him is attacked.

  • Always Someone Better: He sees his older brother Diamant as this, and tends to put himself down by comparing himself to Diamant. Diamant seems to be aware of this, noting how Alcryst's lack of confidence is a huge weakness, and works to address this in their support conversations. Although said support conversations in some ways actually reinforce this, as Diamant defeats Alcryst in a marksmanship competition despite archery being the latter's specialty (and despite Alcryst's Dexterity being far better than Diamant's).
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: An entirely platonic example, but he gives one to Corrupted Morion:
"If some part of you is still in there... Just... Thank you for everything. I love you. I always will."
  • Apologizes a Lot: And we do mean a LOT. In his B-Support with Alear they notice him standing in an odd position to which Alcryst explains he is preparing to bow in case he needs to apologize for something. His Bond conversation with Edelgard ends up reminding her of Bernadetta.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: The class skill from his unique Tireur d'élite class, Luna, gives him a percentage chance based on his Dexterity stat to ignore half of his opponent's Defense or Resistance stat.
  • Badass Adorable: Try as he might denying being badass or adorable, he is nevertheless a humble and friendly young man who is always willing to protect his friends and loved ones with his deadly marksmanship.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The first few seconds of meeting him gives a cool and detached air as he firmly attacks and holds up Alear and company, giving the impression that he will be the resident Cold Sniper like Shamir and Takumi before him. After they properly introduce themselves he leaps into the air into a Pose of Supplication and all efforts to remain cold go up in smoke.
  • Beware the Nice Ones:
    • His personal skill, Get Behind Me, gives him 3 extra points of Strength for 1 turn if an ally within 2 spaces of him is attacked.
    • Alcryst is unusually fierce when it comes to people he loves. He refuses to back down from avenging his father after Morion is turned into a Corrupted, and if chosen to fight him, declares he will kill Morion so Diamant won't have to. He also displays much more visible anger compared to Diamant at Ivy for her role in their father's death.
  • Be Yourself: In his Support conversations with Hortensia, Alcryst asks her to teach him to be more confident. After two failed attempts in their C and B-Supports, their A-Support has Hortensia saying she accepts Alcryst exactly as he is, telling him he has great qualities of his own and that he doesn't need be more confident to have friends.
  • Big Brother Worship: He idolizes Diamant to an unhealthy degree, since his adulation of his big brother fuels his crippling inferiority complex.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: With his older brother. Diamant is one of the tallest members of the cast at 6'2", while Alcryst is one of the shortest male characters (only taller than Clanne and Jean, and tied with Rosado at 5'7").
  • Classy Cravat: Alcryst's default appearance has a large cravat, and he's the second prince of Brodia.
  • Composite Character:
    • He appears to be loosely based off Takumi, as a second son archer prince with notable inferiority issues, admiration for his noble sword-wielding older brother, a dour outlook on life, and initial hate towards a country sharing similarities with Nohr as a result of losing a parent to their machinations while carrying the timid and self-loathing personality traits of Bernadetta and Marianne.
    • Stat-wise, Alcryst is built like the Gordin archetype, a starting-game Archer who is mainly used for chip damage and often overshadowed by later Bow-users. He even has the same lack of confidence and self-worth Gordins like Midir and Wolt possess. Despite that, he actually joins at the time where most games would hand out their first Gordin replacement; the game's actual Gordin is Etie, and her focus on Strength incidentally resembles that of most Archers in Alcryst's Gordin-replacing role.
  • Cowardly Lion: Despite his timid and self-deprecating nature, his personal skill gives him a strength buff if a nearby ally is attacked. In story, this translates as him wanting to kill his Corrupted father to spare Diamant from doing the deed.
  • Critical Hit Class: Much of Alcryst's damage potential relies on proccing Luna, which ignores half of the target's Defense (or Resistance if he's using the Radiant Bow, magic-based Emblem weapons, or using Byleth's Vajra-Mushti on enemies with lower resistance than defense) before applying other damage modifiers or standard critical hits. Luna's chance to fire is directly based on Alcryst's Dexterity (plus 5% if he's using Chrom's S-rank Bond Ring), compared to the critical hit rate of most weapons being based on half the user's Dexterity and reduced by the target's Luck, so you're likely to see Luna trigger more often than you'll see him get a normal crit.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: Of the sibling worshippers of past Fire Emblem games. Alcryst looks up to his older brother Diamant so much that he deprecates himself, believing Diamant is the pinnacle of perfection while he himself is on the opposite end of the spectrum.
  • Demoted to Extra: Alcryst falls off of the main plot shortly after you lose the first six Emblem Rings to Sombron and Veyle, and escape from the Destinea Cathedral to Solm alongside getting Emblems Lyn and Lucina from Ivy. Therefore, he effectively loses his plot armor and can no longer contribute dialogue in cutscenes.
  • Dub Name Change: In Japanese, his name is Staluke, which sounds like an anagram of the Japanese pronunciation of the word "crystal". His English name, Alcryst, preserves this by having it be an anagram of the English word instead.
  • The Eeyore: Almost every interaction Alcryst has tends to have him constantly put himself down and just stay in the background. He's depressing enough that Hortensia ends up pitying him rather than teasing him with how pathetic he sounds.
  • Establishing Character Moment: He's first introduced shooting at Alfred and Alear, mistaking them for trespassers. After an annoyed Alear clarifies their identities as the prince of Firene and the Divine Dragon, Alcryst leaps into the air... straight into a Pose of Supplication while rapidly begging for their forgiveness, much to the two royals' shock.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: His character model features some shadowing around his eyes, contributing to his generally dreary look.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Inverted. Although "Alcryst" is a fantasy name, it is an anagram for "Crystal," which is traditionally a woman's name.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Alcryst's opinion of himself is incredibly low, and he almost never hesitates to show it.
  • Innocently Insensitive: In his support with Seadall he is initially confused as to why the latter would be forced to live on the streets after his parents' death. He also assumes a caravan life is a completely fun and carefree one before Seadall has to explain this is not really the case.
  • Invisible Parents: His and Diamant's mother never appears in person, but is apparently in a safe place for much of the game, as revealed by Alcryst's supports with Saphir.
  • Jerkass to One: While a Nice Guy for the most part, he's rather hostile to Ivy at first, due in part to blaming her for his father's death. He softens up after she apologizes in their C support, and the two work through their feelings of resentment toward their former enemies.
  • Nice Guy: Contrary to his frighteningly low opinion of himself, Alcryst is a kind and compassionate young man who sees the best in everyone and is fiercely loyal to his friends and family. His supports with his retainer Lapis involve her frustration with how Alcryst can’t see himself as the wonderful person he really is.
  • Odd Name Out: Downplayed. His name does fit into the Rock Theme Naming of his kingdom, but it somewhat stands out that it's the only one to be an anagram for a gemstone when the other Brodians' names are either derived from or directly after one.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "I will protect everyone!"
    "For Brodia!"
    "I won't miss!"
    "I hope this is enough..."
  • Plot Armor: In Classic mode, he won't die if his HP drops to 0, due to his story presence being necessary in certain cutscenes. However, unlike his older brother, Alcryst loses his plot armor from Chapter 11 onwards, and will die for real if he falls in battle.
  • Recurring Dreams: Like Céline, he suffers from nightmares in which his brother dies.
  • Recurring Element: Alcryst practically worships his older brother, not unlike past sibling worshippers like Lachesis and Priscilla.
  • Sheltered Aristocrat: To an extent. He does not understand why Seadall would be living on the streets after his parents died, believes caravan life is all fun and games, and compared to Diamant he initially shows a more ignorant view of Brodia's invasions of Elusia if his first encounter with Hortensia is anything to go by.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: While Alcryst is a rather shy person with low self-esteem, his older brother, Diamant, is the strong, proud crown prince popular amongst the people. This is actually emphasized by their personal classes, as Diamant's personal class Successeur has access to Sol while Alcryst's personal class Tieur d'élite has access to Luna.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Unlike Diamant, Alcryst isn't as trusting towards Ivy, and still holds a grudge against her for her role in his father's death, although the two of them do manage to become friends in their support chain.
  • Training from Hell: Implied. In his C Bond conversation with Lucina, he claims he was forced to undergo a strict training regimen as a child, describing it as "not a fun story".
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: In his A Support with Ivy, she tells him that he really does live up to his role as royalty. When he tries to contest this, she jokingly accuses him of questioning the judgement of the crown princess of Elusia.

Retainers and Others

    Amber

Birthday: 2/3

Class: Lance Knight > Paladin

Voiced by: Atsushi Tamaru (Japanese), Parker Way (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amberfe17portrait.png
Alpaca Master

A royal knight from Brodia, and one of Diamant's retainers. He's an endlessly bright and pure knight, with a passionate heart. A romanticist who loves the fables and legends of the world, but everything he does usually leads to trouble.

His personal skill, Aspiring Hero, gives Amber +20 Accuracy but reduces his Avoid by -10 if he initiates combat and no units are adjacent to him or his opponent.

  • Always Second Best: Amber feels this way towards Jade ever since losing to her in the finals of a tournament to decide who would be prince Diamant's retainer. While his skills still impressed Diamant and was made the Prince's second retainer anyway, support chain with Jade shows that he still has a complex about it.
  • Animal Lover: Just like Merrin, Amber is a huge fan of animals. However, there is one particular type of animal that he loves more than all of them: alpacas.
  • Badass Adorable: Amber is a formidable cavalier in his own right, and is also a very cheerful and exciteable dork who loves his alpacas.
  • Big "WHY?!": When taking heavy damage, getting inflicted with the broken status, or getting hit by an Engage attack, he may sometimes yell out "Whyyyy?!"
  • Butt-Monkey: He's the unwitting butt of jokes from Diamant and Jade in their support chain.
  • Chuunibyou: He’s a grown man who’s obsessed with myths and legends and is always going on about wanting to be a legendary hero.
  • Commonality Connection: With Panette. The two of them are both considered oddballs in their own right, so they find quite a bit to bond over.
  • Country Mouse: As his supports should make quite clear, Amber grew up at an alpaca ranch, which is why he has such a fondness for the animals. When he eventually became Diamant's retainer and eventually started fighting alongside Alear, he occasionally became homesick. That's why he calls out to the alpacas back at his home at night.
  • Curtains Match the Window: He has golden eyes and blonde hair to match.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Rare Male Example. Despite his high ambitions, he has an awful habit of tripping and falling at inopportune times.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Chapter 9 of the manga adaptation is primarily focused on Amber, going into full depth into his life from being a farmboy, to becoming Diamant's retainer.
  • Dork Knight: He's a very passionate knight, and is a major dork who loves alpacas.
  • Expy: Of Cynthia from Fire Emblem: Awakening. Just like her, Amber is an overly ambitious young soldier who dreams of being a legendary hero of justice. Some of his antics also bring Owain to mind, which was brought in his support with Chrom.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Gets along with various animals, in particular alpacas, and is often seen spending time at the farmyard on the Somniel.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Amber is mildly clumsy and quite guileless, captured in his low Dexterity, abysmal Resistance, and virtual inability to make good use of Magic. One Support with Diamant has him find a supposed truth serum, accidentally consume it, and blurt out everything on his mind in a hypnotic-like trance. Despite this, he's a strongly-determined individual, and this is captured in his physically-oriented stats.
  • Gender-Blender Name: In English-speaking countries, "Amber" is almost always a feminine name.
  • Glass Cannon: Amber is one of two playable characters (the other being Panette) who boasts the highest personal strength growth of the playable cast, which is complimented by a high base Strength of 15 at the time he joins and starting out with a Killer Lance and Iron Greatlance. However, his speed, defense and especially his resistance growths are much less impressive, putting him at the risk of either getting doubled by other enemies for high damage and being incapable of dodging efficiently, especially at the hands of spellcasters. His Personal Skill, which increases his Hit by 20 at the expense of losing 10 Avoid, emphasizes this by ensuring his attacks land for high damage at the expense of putting him at further risk of getting hit.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: He has golden hair and a very pure heart.
  • Irony: Amber loves alpacas and constantly talks about them, yet, for some reason, in a game with marmots and flamingos, the player cannot adopt an alpaca of their own, nor is there one to actually be seen in the entire game. The closest thing we get is that Amber is represented with an alpaca symbol on his page in the Ally Notebook.
  • Keet: He's a very cheerful and exciteable guy.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: His innate magic growth is a flat 0, making it impossible for him to naturally raise his Magic stat without items or class changing. A marginally better Resistance growth of 5 also means he's especially vulnerable to other mages.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "Nothing short of victory!"
    "I WILL be a hero!"
    "Hope this looks cool!"
    "My legend starts now!"
  • Red Baron: On a smaller scale, but according to the Ally Notebook, his hometown refers to him as the "alpaca hamlet miracle".
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Amber speaks fluent alpaca, and passes it on to the main character in their support chain.
  • You Remind Me of X: His bombastic but heroic nature reminds Chrom of his nephew, Owain.

    Jade

Birthday: 12/7

Class: Axe Armor > General

Voiced by: Marie Miyake (Japanese), Katelyn Gault (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jadefe17portrait.png

A royal knight from Brodia, and one of Diamant's retainers. She's very calm, and serious about her duties. Since she rarely talks, people think she's emotionless, but actually she can be cheerful and funny. When in danger, she meditates on the spot.

Her personal skill, Meditation, gives Jade +2 Resistance for one turn if she uses the Wait action instead of attacking or using items.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Jade says this if Alear gives Horse Manure as a gift to her.
Jade: I'll admit... this is funny. But I have no use for it.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Her casual attire consists of a buttoned up shirt with a tie and pants.
  • The Comically Serious: Her constant stern-faced expression only serves to make her comedic scenes even funnier, and being a comedy writer, those scenes come up a lot.
  • Curtains Match the Window: She's a blonde with yellow eyes to go along with it.
  • Helmets Are Hardly Heroic: Averted. She's one of the few Fire Emblem characters who actually wears a helmet. However, she loses it on any promotion. She additionally removes it temporarily in post-battle free-roaming if kept in her starting class.
  • Irony: Jade is a Perpetual Frowner who always seems to be upset about something, yet she's actually an author who writes comedy books.
  • Lady of War: She is quiet and composed, and fights with an air of elegance even in full armor.
  • Meditation Powerup: Downplayed. Her personal skill raises her Resistance if she waits instead of taking action, making her better protected against magic, but doesn't actually make her any stronger.
  • Not So Stoic: When the weirder sides of her personality (such as her love of comedy) come out, it can lead to some very bizarre scenes:
Rosado: Now, introduce yourself to me. Tell me who you are.
    Jade: Shucks-a-doodles, I'm jimmy-jammy Jade.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Jade comes after Louis and is a bit less specialized than him, with less reliable HP and Defense growths in exchange for marginally-better prospects in everything he's bad at. Her only major edge over him is her Magic growth, which lets her use the Hurricane Axe effectively against high-Defense foes, or change professions to become a Mage of unusual bulk.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Whether it be inside or outside of battle, Jade always seems to have the exact same stern expression on her face. This is repeatedly lampshaded by the other characters, as they ask Jade if something is wrong, even when she's perfectly fine. Ironic, considering that she is a comedy writer.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "Nothing short of victory!"
    "My turn!"
    "Your story ends here!"
    "The final blow!"
  • Red Baron: She used to be so infamous among bandits that they called her the "Iron Wall".
  • The Stoic: Her facial expression almost never changes and she maintains a consistent monotone, but she's just as warm and emotional as anyone else in the army.
  • Third-Person Person: An unusual example. In some of her lines she seems to quote a book of some kind, or possibly coming up with lines for her own works. In these quotes she talks about "the knight", clearly referring to herself.
Jade: "And so, the knight claimed victory."
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: She has a very long ponytail reminiscent of the crest of a knight's helmet, and she's among the more masculine of the cast, disliking fashion and spending most of her time training.
  • Warrior Poet: On top of being a Knight, she's also an accomplished book author. Some supports are about her looking for ideas for her next book, and her ally notebook pages say that she dislikes getting into writer's blocks.

    Lapis

Birthday: 5/25

Class: Sword Fighter > Swordmaster

Voiced by: Tomoyo Takayanagi (Japanese), Kimberly Woods (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lapisfe17portrait.png
Click to see Lapis in Fire Emblem Heroes

A royal knight from Brodia, and one of Alcryst's retainers. Despite her delicate appearance, she can exhibit unearthly strength. Her talent is knowing what kinds of grass are edible.

Her personal skill, Share Spoils, gives Lapis +10 Accuracy and Avoid but reduces her Critical chance by -10 while an ally is adjacent to her.

  • Badass Adorable: A young woman of slight build who serves as a royal bodyguard and wields a BFS.
  • Blatant Lies: Engages in this in some of her castle conversations in Heroes.
"*chomp* *chomp* Bitter, but not the worst weeds I've tasted. Should do in a pinch if we run out of... AAH! N-no, this isn't... I don't eat weeds!"
"Yeah, I had a typical middle-class childhood. Came from a prosperous town in Brodia... What? It's true!"
  • Bodyguard Crush: Lapis's conversations with Alcryst imply, and her A support conversation with Citrinne pretty much confirms, that her feelings for her prince Alcryst go beyond her duty as a retainer.
    "So brave..."
  • Composite Character: She is fittingly an amalgam Expy of Prince Takumi’s retainers: like Oboro, she has affection for her liege and is a passionate artistan (in this case for crafting devices instead of fashionable clothing); and like Hinata, she’s an impassioned, but easygoing and friendly swordfighter.
  • Curtains Match the Window: She has light pink eyes to go with her light pink hair.
  • Farm Girl: Although she's currently a retainer of Brodia's prince, Lapis was born and raised on a farm.
  • Fragile Speedster: Lapis' growths heavily push her towards this role in the vein of the classic Fire Emblem myrmidon. Lapis tends to lack hitting power and durability, but is exceptionally fast and evasive.
  • Foil: To Citrinne. Both of them are retainers to Alcryst who lack self-confidence due to their upbringings. However, while Citrinne is the wealthy daughter of a Brodian duke who was given her position due to family ties, enjoys lavishness, and lacks physical strength, Lapis is a country girl who earned her position by winning a tournament to provide for her struggling family, dislikes high society and luxury goods, and is said to have Super-Strength. In gameplay, Lapis is a physically-oriented Fragile Speedster while Citrinne is a magically-oriented Glass Cannon.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: In supports and her character bio, she is noted for having amazing physical strength. However, in gameplay, her starting strength and strength growth are both middling. Instead, it is her speed (her speed growth tied with three others for highest in the game at 55) that is most noteworthy.
  • Homemade Inventions: She's rather capable of creating a variety of trinkets, tools, and other items for others out of whatever materials she can find, though it only comes into play in her supports. She attempts to create an exercise device at Etie's request and makes a sparkly, snowman trinket for Anna and it's implied she's got the creativity to make even more.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: You certainly wouldn’t get the impression that she could take down bears by herself, but she's done that on more than one occasion.
  • Navel Outline: Like Chloé, she wears some type of skintight covering underneath her armor that makes her navel plainly visible underneath the clothing.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Lapis' subpar bases and the game's questionable decision to use her to tutorialize smash weapons—a weapon type she is very ill-suited for on account of her Fragile Speedster nature due to them being unable to follow up and allowing the enemy to hit first—as well to have her personal skill lower her chance to crit in favour of hitting and evading, lead many players to overlook her, compounded by characters with significantly higher bases and similar roles like Diamant and Kagetsu joining shortly afterwards. She can perform as well as anyone if given proper attention, particularly in roles that suit her growths (like swordmaster and griffin knight) or make up for what she lacks (wyvern knight patching up her strength growth and giving her a higher power weapon type in lances).
  • Penny Among Diamonds: Lapis feels out of place among her peers, since not only is her liege Alcryst a prince, but her fellow retainer Citrinne is a relative of the royal family and extremely wealthy. Because of that, she's ashamed of her humbler origins and tries to hide them.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "I will protect everyone!"
    "I won't waste this chance!"
"I'll cut you down to size!"
    "You're going down!"
  • Red Baron: In her solo ending, due to her spreading of potatoes to war-torn towns bringing her village prosperity, she is given the nickname "the Potato Goddess".
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: Her hair is pink, and she's a good-natured and kind girl.
  • Super-Strength: Although this doesn't apply to gameplay, Lapis is said to be incredibly strong physically.
  • Watering Down: She likes to dilute her milk as she was raised believing that it's bad for you to drink it whole. In a support with Boucheron, she says it should be one part milk to ten parts water. He is weirded out by her preference, while she is in disbelief that other people don't dilute it, and it catches Dimitri off guard in one of their Bond conversations.

Click to see Citrinne in Fire Emblem Heroes

A royal knight from Brodia, and one of Alcryst's retainers. Although she can appear haughty, she's kind-hearted and values her friends. She's the daughter of a relative of the royal family, and sometimes spoils others with her stupendous wealth.

Her personal skill, Generosity, gives adjacent allies the same amount of HP recovered when she uses a healing item.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Although a genuinely kindhearted person, Citrinne does not take any perceived threats towards her friends or country lightly. Her supports with Yunaka, for instance, display this pretty well. Upon noticing Yunaka asking about an upcoming assembly of Brodian nobles, Citrinne looks into Yunaka's background and figures out that she's a former assassin, at which point Citrinne blackmails Yunaka into revealing her full background and intentions. The "Nice Ones" part of this trope becomes very apparent in the A rank, however. After Yunaka reveals that she was only looking into the assembly to propose creating a service to help out disenfranchised kids, Citrinne is so overcome with sympathy that she immediately takes it upon herself to fund it with her own money.
  • Combat Medic: Her personal skill makes her a variant of one, since she can use healing items on herself to restore allies around her as well. She has to be injured (or at least below max HP) to use healing items, however, which somewhat limits its practicality.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Citrinne has excellent Mag and Res... and not much else. It is possible to keep her relevant until the endgame through abilities such as Dire Thunder, although she'll be a Glass Cannon at best. Citrinne agonizes over this, according to her silver Ally Notebook page, which implies she misses what she's good at for what she's not naturally gifted in.
  • Fiction 500:
    • She is incredibly wealthy, to the point of easily spending so much money, an average person can live on them their whole life. Her idea of a small thank-you gift is a private island (for Alear) or offering to buy a mountain or rent out a coast (for Eirika).
    • Citrinne is stated to be the party member who owns the most land in Brodia. Consider that the party includes Diamant, the crown prince and later ruler of Brodia, which says a lot about how rich Citrinne actually is.
  • Foil: To Lapis. Both of them are retainers to Alcryst who lack self-confidence due to their upbringings. However, while Lapis is a country girl who earned her position by winning a tournament to provide for her struggling family, dislikes high society and luxury goods, and is said to have Super-Strength, Citrinne is the wealthy daughter of a Brodian duke who was given her position due to family ties, enjoys lavishness, and lacks physical strength. In gameplay, Lapis is a physically-oriented Fragile Speedster while Citrinne is a magically-oriented Glass Cannon.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Perhaps a bit haughty on the surface, but Citrinne is a genuinely kindhearted person who wants the best for her friends and country.
  • Hidden Depths: Citrinne is one of the more intelligent and insightful characters on the roster, despite how she tends to seem. Many of her supports involve Citrinne ferreting out other characters' secrets to their surprise.
  • Jerkass Realization: In her A rank event with Yunaka, she realizes that she unfairly suspected Yunaka and apologizes, before giving Yunaka money to help the orphans of the war.
  • Lady of Black Magic: A haughty and sophisticated noblewoman who deals out plenty of magical damage in battle thanks to her high Magic.
  • Mighty Glacier: A magical version. Citrinne has monstrous stats on both offense and defense when it comes to magic, among the highest in the game, but is very slow.
  • My Country, Right or Wrong: In a support conversation with Yunaka, Citrinne says that she has zero qualms about being ruthless if it means protecting her country.
"Know this, Yunaka... to protect Brodia, I can and will act with a heart of cold steel. No mercy."
  • Nepotism: In Citrinne's supports with Chloé, she admits that she got her position as a retainer due to familial connections. Because of this, she often worries she's not up to the job, and constantly works on becoming stronger. When talking to her after battling in Destinea Cathedral, she refers to King Morion as "Uncle Morion", revealing just how close she is to the throne. Her B-Support page in the Ally notebook says her father is a grand duke and she is Diamant and Alcryst's cousin; implying she is outright royalty, not just nobility, though that depends on whether she is from Morion's side of the family, which is never specified.
  • Non-Idle Rich: Despite being rich to the point that she owns more land in Brodia than even Diamant, who's part of Brodia's noble direct family, and that she considers private islands reasonable gifts to give, she still works as retainer, and actively works for Brodia's wellbeing. Most notably shown in the Yunaka support; where she digs up Yunaka's past on her own, which no other character manages to do.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: She says that she and Lapis are the same, since they both see themselves as burdened by their hindrances- for Citrinne, it's her lack of physical strength, while for Lapis, it's her status as a commoner.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Much like her fellow retainer Lapis who joins at the same time, Citrinne is a potentially very powerful addition to the team who joins at an awkward time when she's likely to be overshadowed by characters who joined shortly before and will join shortly afterwards. That being said, there are ways to make the most of Citrinne having one of the best magic growths in the entire game.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    "I will protect everyone!"
    "Care to join me?"
"I have a gift for you!"
    "Allow me to dazzle you!"
  • Recurring Element: Aside from lacking any sort of suffering in her backstory, Citrinne resembles the Linde archetype in a gameplay sense, being both your second Mage and one focused on massive first strikes. Her chosen tome (Thunder) doubles down on this, preventing her from making a second strike at all.
  • Shipper on Deck: She seems to ship Lapis with Alcryst. After Lapis proposes that Alcryst chose the two of them to be his retainers because of their compatible personalities, Citrinne replies, "I know you're enamored with him, but Alcryst isn't that clever," much to Lapis's embarrassment.
  • Spoiled Sweet: She is both very wealthy and very generous with her friends, this being reflected in her personal skill Generosity where if she used a healing item then any adjacent ally will heal the same amount that she does. The idea likely being that she is able to afford enough copies of the single item used in her inventory to give to everyone around her, the extras paid for out of her own pocket.
  • Squishy Mage: She's a mage with very low physical defense, although she is extremely resilient against magical attacks.
  • Verbal Tic: Citrinne has a tendency to repeat herself three times when feeling insecure, most often seen in one of her level-up comments where she says, "I must, must, must keep improving."
  • You Called Me "X"; It Must Be Serious: While she, as Diamant and Alcryst's cousin, is close enough with them that she can simply call them by name, she temporarily starts using "Prince" on Diamant during her and Diamant's B support due to worrying that being overly familiar with the crown prince will cause people to suspect her of colluding with him. Diamant notices the change immediately, and gets her to switch back before long.

    Yunaka

Birthday: 7/28

Class: Thief

Voiced by: Fairouz Ai (Japanese), Laura Post (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yunakafe17portrait.png

A mysterious woman who Alear meets on their travels. She's cheerful and energetic and easily gets along with people she's just met thanks to her friendliness.

Her personal skill, Trained to Kill, gives Yunaka +15 Critical chance whenever she's on terrain that grants an Avoid bonus.

  • Badass Adorable: She's a very perky and friendly girl, and she happens to have a lot of experience as a dangerous assassin too.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Played with. Yunaka is actually an incredibly talented impressionist, but she's terrible at actual deception. Her introduction involves an act so bad she pretends to cry by saying "sniffle sniffle" out loud, and only gets away with it because she's talking to the incredibly naïve Alfred.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: She's extremely affable, if a bit careless with her speech. She's also a deadly Professional Killer. Those two statements do not contradict each other.
  • Blade Enthusiast: Don't mistake her lack of attachment to her past as a lack of attachment to her tools, the girl adores knives and daggers and collects noteworthy ones. Her supports with Merrin end up focusing on her trying to trade for a particularly resplendent one.
  • Bling of War: Her Memento reveals that at least some of the stars she wears are made of pure gold.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Etie seems to focus on Yunaka's large chest when she's "sizing her up" in their support, with Yunaka accusing her of getting too "touchy-feeling". This is more blatant in the original Japanese.
  • Commonality Connection: With Zelkov. The two of them manage to find quite a bit of common ground, given that they're both former assassins trying to put their pasts behind them. Neither of them are keen on actually talking about their pasts, but they bond over a mutual understanding of each other's situation.
  • Compulsive Liar: Struggles with this in various early supports and dialogue, and admits it's a bad habit of hers she is working to overcome, starting with the small pointless lies. In one wake-up event, she confesses to having recently gabbed at someone for an hour about her dog, despite the truth being that she's never owned a dog in her life and is more of a cat person. Justified due to her past and intense desire to become a new person that people will like.
  • Contralto of Strength: Her voice becomes noticeably deeper when she gets serious or scores a critical hit in battle, quite fitting for someone who is trained in the way of deadly assassins, contrasting the lighter voice she normally has. It's shown in some wake-up events and her S-support with Alear that this is actually her most natural tone of voice, the bubbly tone being an affectation she has to make an effort to use.
  • Critical Hit Class: Her personal skill, Trained To Kill, makes her adept at this fighting style, as she gains Crit+15 whenever she is in terrain that grants her an Avoid bonus such as Forest tiles and her base class is the covert unit Thief.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Yunaka has saturated maroon hair with eyes of the same color to match.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She was born in the Brodian Bluffs under the name Larimar, but she would be abandoned by her parents and taken in by a man who would raise her into an assassin. After many assassination contracts, the man would eventually fall deathly ill, and assign one last contract to Larimar: to assassinate him and be paid with what money he had from their work. He also would reveal the real reason he took her in, to raise her to succeed him in his work. Despite her scorn for him, Larimar also knew she wouldn't have survived if not for him, so she honors his request to put him down. After the deed was done, Larimar would change her name to Yunaka and move on and away from her cold upbringing.
  • Death Glare: She gives a brief, very chilling one to the enemy in her critical animation.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: The manga adaptation revealed that Yunaka actually dyed her hair red, possibly to further distance herself from her past life as as assassin. It used to be blonde and tied in pigtails when she was a child.
  • Foreshadowing: After chapter 16, Yunaka mentions that Solm is about as far from Brodia as you can get. Guess where she's shown in the credits.
  • Fragile Speedster: Yunaka has good Speed, but her Defense growth is tied with Pandreo's as the lowest in the game. Though given that Thief is a covert class, it's not too hard to get around this by relying on terrain avoid bonuses. Plus her Resistance growth is high enough that she can handle hits from mystic types that ignore terrain avoid bonuses.
  • Friend to All Children: Her support with Citrinne reveals that she was hoping to talk to Brodian officials in an assembly to help create a place for homeless and abandoned children to go to, not wanting them to suffer and go through the same pain that Yunaka herself went through. Citrinne is shocked and feels immensely guilty for misjudging her, and offers to help in any way she can.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Yunaka starts off with her knife skills being S rank and with a personal skill called "Trained to Kill," clear indicators that she used to be an assassin.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: If made to fight Micaiah in her paralogue, Yunaka claims she doesn't have it easy when combating mages. This is in spite of the fact that her resistance growth is on the higher end of the physically-aligned units, making her effective at tanking magical attacks with enough level ups.
  • Genki Girl: The girl's an energetic ray of sunshine wherever she goes. This however, appears to be a facade to hide her true nature as an assassin.
  • Got Me Doing It: Yunaka briefly copies Zelkov's verbal tic when he asks for an "*example*" of why she thinks he's also a former assassin.
Yunaka: Take your eyes, for example.
  • Leitmotif: Yunaka has her own leitmotif called "Hiya Papaya!", which is mostly used in Chapter 6, as well as many supports involving her. However, it also plays in other supports that don't involve her.
  • Lethal Chef: Yunaka is the only character capable of producing a G-Rank dish when cooking, which provides no stat boost or support points. Even her best dishes max out at C-Rank. Her support with Goldmary provides context: Yunaka's parents abandoned her so she became essentially a domestic slave for the person who took her in. Doing any kind of everyday chore causes her to flashback to those times so bad that she specically avoids doing them around other people in case she breaks down crying. It's probably not that she doesn't know how to cook, but rather that her PTSD reactions make it extremely difficult for her.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Although Yunaka is mostly quirky and cheerful, that completely goes away when she delivers her Crit Quotes, as her voice is much deeper and more serious-sounding.
    "Dropped your guard."
"Look what you made me do."
    "You're dead."
    "Time to finish the job."
  • Navel Outline: Her default outfit is so form-fitting that her belly button is visible on it.
  • Mage Killer: Her resistance growth (even without class growth rates factored in) is really decent for a physical unit, so with time, she can be one of your best options for putting enemy spellcasters out of commission.
  • Master of Disguise: She's quite skilled at impersonation, and apparently used this skill to get the drop on her targets as an assassin.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She wears a very Form-Fitting Wardrobe with prominent openings for her cleavage and her sides, plus she engages in a lot of acrobatics when she fights.
  • Mythology Gag: Yunaka is the first character who has access to Micaiah and her starting class is Thief—not unlike a certain longtime friend of Micaiah.
  • Not a Game: Due to her upbringing, Yunaka doesn't see real fighting as something to enjoy, and her C-support with Merrin has her scold the latter for trying to make a verbal spectacle out of their sparring match. She considers Merrin's habit of engaging in repartee with her opponent to be bad enough that she doesn't think Merrin can afford to indulge in it even in a sparring match.
Yunaka: Merrin, I know you think it's super stylish to pause for a monologue in the middle of a fight. But if you're going to do that, you might as well point to your kidneys and ask for a shanking. With me, the worst you get is a bump on the noggin. A real enemy would eviscerate you.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: She says all her critical lines in a much colder tone than her usual voice.
    "Dropped your guard."
"Look what you made me do."
    "You're dead."
    "Time to finish the job."
  • Parental Abandonment: She reveals in her Pact Ring convo with Alear and her Supports with Citrinne that her parents left her long ago, before she was even old enough to understand why.
  • Professional Killer: She was raised as an assassin in her youth, under her original name of Larimar, before leaving that life behind.
  • Sherlock Scan: In her supports with Zelkov, Yunaka is able to deduce that he's a former assassin like her from how he behaves.
Zelkov: Could you indulge me in an *example*?
Yunaka: Take your eyes, for *example.* They're ice cold. Calculating. Normal people don't go around evaluating what folks' lives are worth. That's an assassin thing. You're always probing for weaknesses too. Considering vectors of attack, right?
Zelkov: That is *not* what I...
Yunaka: Seriously, bud? You're doing it right now! Look at yourself. Tell me you're not poised to counter a knife thrust from my dominant hand. You're constantly positioning yourself to maximize your tactical advantage. Don't think I don't see it.
  • Ship Tease: With Seadall in their A Support. After being chosen for the lead role in Seadall's performance, Yunaka gets stage fright but calms down when Seadall holds her hand and tells her that he trusts her. Furthermore if you beat the game with both Yunaka and Seadall alive you see a CG during the credits showing that they kept doing their performance duo after the events of the game.
  • Shoot the Shaggy Dog: Invoked in her death quote:
"In the end..it's all the same. May as well have died all those years ago..."
  • Stepford Smiler: She generally puts up a very cheerful and bubbly façade, but it's fairly easy in various supports that she is partly faking it. It's an affectation to help her move away from her past as an assassin.
  • Stronger Than They Look: Etie tells Yunaka that despite the former's more visibly muscular physique, she might actually be stronger of the two due to her muscles being the natural result of training from a young age, as opposed to Etie just working out a lot.
  • Trauma Button: Due to her family's lack of money she was abandoned and effectively made a slave during her childhood, forced to handle all domestic chores by the person who took her in. Doing chores nowadays causes her to flash back to that time period so bad it can cause crying fits. For this reason, she avoids ever doing them around or with other people. However, during her support with Goldmary, she finds a way to mitigate this: if she pretends to be someone else while she works, she's too focused on her impression for the memories to creep in.
  • Tyke Bomb: She was an orphan who got adopted by an assassin who raised to be an assassin just like him.
  • Uncertain Doom: Her solo ending states that a few years after becoming a popular street performer post-war, she vanished without a trace. Did she perish, or start a new life somewhere far away? Historians are left with no idea as to the truth.
  • Vapor Wear: Her default outfit has two large windows on her hips that make it clear that she doesn't seem to wear any underwear.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Bonus points for being literal, happening on the map that introduces Fog of War. When asked to join the main party, she's completely stumped as to why they would ever do that when she just admitted to stealing a royal artifact to pawn it for cash. Alear and Alfred point out that she could have disappeared into the pitch-black night as soon as she got the ring back and no one would have been able to follow her, but instead she stayed with them until the end and willingly admitted to her crime.
  • Woman of a Thousand Voices: In-Universe, she has a very wide vocal range that allows her to do uncanny impressions of the other female characters.

    Saphir

Birthday: 1/17

Class: Warrior

Voiced by: Sachiko Okada (Japanese), Cassie Ewulu (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saphir_fe_engage.png

The captain of Brodia's Royal Guard.

Her personal skill, Will to Win, gives Saphir +20 Accuracy and Avoid while her HP is below 50%.

  • Cool Old Lady: She looks quite aged, but she's quite easygoing and friendly.
  • The Guards Must Be Crazy: A rare heroic example. Saphir is explicitly told to head the royal guard as she always does, but she restlessly heads out to Elusia while the party is gone, only for the party to bump into her right after she arrives.
  • Gutted Like a Fish: Although Saphir never actually does this to anyone, one of her Pre Mortem One Liners has her threaten the opponent that she will do so.
  • Hidden Depths: Even as an aged veteran, Saphir reveals in her supports with Diamant, Louis, and Lindon that she is still haunted by nightmares of her family and friends being killed in front of her and her hometown razed to the ground by Elusia when she was a child.
  • Late Character Syndrome: Saphir's excellent personal skill and starting class are often overshadowed by just how late she joins your party. She is one of the last characters you can recruit, and your last optional recruit at that. It's certainly possible that all of your other axe-users or archers might be worse (or dead) by the time you get her, but that's not an ideal scenario. At the very least, she's hard to miss on her recruitment map, and she can at least provide a Brave Axe, a Tomahawk, and an Elixir for someone else to use if you do recruit her.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: Her innate magic growth is a flat 0, making it impossible for her to naturally raise her Magic stat without items or class changing.
  • Recurring Dreams: Where she relives the moment when her parents and best friend were killed in an Elusian raid, as she admits in her B-Support with Louis.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
"I'll gut you like a fish!"
    "Out of my face!"
    "Worm food!"
    "Move!"
  • Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!: Downplayed. She's rather aged-looking, and while not overtly rude, doesn't see anything wrong with her blunt and informal manner of speech. Panette, who has cultivated a sophisticated facade for the sake of her role as retainer, gives Saphir etiquette lessons in their supports.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Saphir is very fond of seafood. One of her critical hit lines alludes to fish, the Ally Notebook says that she knows more about fish than any other ally, and Goldmary even challenges her to a seafood-cooking contest in her C-support.
  • Younger Than They Look: Maybe. She looks like a middle-aged woman, perhaps in her 50s, and has been a warrior for at least a couple of decades... but if datamining is to be believed, she's only 35.

    Count Lebright
A count from Brodia who hired Yunaka.
  • Canon Foreigner: He is a character created exclusively for the Manga, replacing Teronda from the original game.
  • Evil All Along: He's initially friendly towards Alear and his group, but the moment they head downstairs and witness what appears to be an underground cult, Lebright turns out to be an incredibly malicious person who worships Sombron.
