"Now, you have a choice. A choice between saving someone truly special to you, or saving a world. EVERY world if we're talking on a grander scale. Now, look, I'm not trying to force you to choose here. Nobody can. But what would you personally prioritise, if forced into it?"

Rated T by the ESRB.

Sonic: Into, Across and Beyond! is a Sonic the Hedgehog Film Fic by Pico Digital Studios over on Tumblr. It roughly retells the Spider-Man: Spider-Verse trilogy (alongside some other stories) with the crew of Sonic the Hedgehog and its various fanworks, mixing written posts and sprite mockups to tell the story.

The plot begins fairly similarly; after Sonic of the OMT universe bites it after killing Sonic.OMT, his Tails (dubbed "OMT!Tails") steps up to protect his world in his steed, battling some new foes and more with help from Sonic's alternate selves and various new faces from a now-opened multiverse. And as his journeys go on, he learns what it takes to be a hero within the Sonic multiverse, for better or worse.

Any spoilers on this page are based on the original scripts of the films, and any significant Meta Twists involved.

Tropes:

  • Adaptation Expansion:
    • Whilst the original Spider-Gang consisted of ten members, the Blur Gang consists of eighteen, including several roles that weren't initially filled in.
    • With the above, the "one last time" summaries for each hero are expanded upon for different characters, to the point that it's a full-blown Running Gag spanning multiple stories. Of these, Trip lacks her own summary.
    • Alongside the Shatterverse having developed into its own locale, several AU ideas by fellow Tumblr user Son1c were picked out to expand upon what Sonic Prime had given viewers, including new Shatterspace counterparts of Sonic, Shadow, Cream and several others, and even a brand-new Shatterspace utilising the Playing with Fire and An Ice Person tropes in its design.
  • Adaptational Alternate Ending: Compared to Across the Spider-Verse, Many More Heroes actually DOES end on a more positive note. Crimtake is successfully beaten by the teamwork of OMT!Tails and Superstars Amy, and Lost Memory Sonic gets ratted out for his ideals about canon events, ensuring OMT!Cream's death doesn't have to happen. That said, Crimtake's last-ditch effort to take the duo down with him causes OMT!Tails to be knocked into Dimension BL-2017, where he's met by a familiar face from that universe...
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: On top of the body count the original Spider-Verse canon events rack up from several of the cast losing some of those close to them, the radioactive spider is swapped out for various other means for Mobian heroes to get into their roles. And there's no saying they have to prepare for heroism by choice, either, which OMT!Tails, OMT!Mina, EX!Alice, Nitro and Antho got taught the harshest.
    • OMT!Tails is not only forced to take up his Sonic's mantle after his passing, but he's also forced to lose OMT!Sally at Richard's hands, which fills him with even more grief. And as if to make it worse, he feels the pressure to erase all trace of his existence as a possible last-ditch effort to fix everything, which is thankfully stopped.
  • Adaptational Badass: EX!Alice is already a force of nature in the universe she originates from, but combine that with her modified E4-R6:3 vehicle, and she can really tear up an enemy battlefield quickly.
  • Adaptational Context Change:
    • The general power outlet of a Spider-Person is altered for the Blur Gang and Quill Society characters; web-slinging is replaced with special enerbeam bracelets (save for OMT!Mina, who has web-slinging from the get-go), the Super-Senses attribute to another point on someone's body (like OMT!Tails's namesakes and OMT!Mina's hair), and the Wall Crawl is practiced in the same way as Sonic Frontiers, done by the user's sheer willpower alone instead of Spider DNA.
    • The Drill Sergeant Nasty section doesn't get as rough as it does in Into, and is simply more Played for Laughs. OMT!Tails departing (with Chuck by his side this time as company) is instead more out of worry for Uma and his close friends.
    • Played with with the "Will you adopt me?" gag. While it's still used in the same Played for Laughs context as intended for the Action Prologue, it's given a lot more weight when said by OMT!Cream towards Devy in More than One Universe, considering OMT!Vanilla is a goner now.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Whilst the appearance of Earth-42 Miles is canonically saved for the climax of Across the Spider-Verse as a Wham Shot for Beyond the Spider-Verse, in Many More Heroes, OMT!Tails instead stumbles across Moebius early on, accidentally getting a rival out of Anti-Miles before he returns home in time for when the true events start.
  • Adaptational Sympathy:
    • The Quill Society isn't as inherently awful as the Spider-Society's way of performing was. Almost all of the present characters involved are firmly on the side of good and mainly wish to keep an eye on the bad apples involved, with only Lost Memory Sonic, Turbo, Fiona and Metallix being the worst members.
    • Amy Rouge in this storyline is ultimately less of a charmer than usually depicted, instead choosing to keep out of the public consciousness due to her bad relationship with Toxinfect. She is fully trusting of both Errorverse Sonic and Nitro, though.
  • Adapted Out: Any of the major Ruder and Cruder content in Across the Spider-Verse and other content is cut out, due to most of the main cast being minors, with a small few being over 18 in general. Any of the NSFW implications for characters like Milly are also completely out of the window to keep the story fairly family-friendly, instead focusing on their personality attributes.
  • Alternate Continuity: Whilst the events of Funkinverse remain the same, some changes take place between them in the IAB! Shared Universe.
  • Alternate Tooniverse: There are a few universes in IAB! that class as a Tooniverse, be it being a Toon plain and simple (e.g., Mr. Needlemouse and AOSTH Sonic), being Animesque (Sonic X as a prime example), or in an old storybook-like artstyle in-universe (like Black Knight Amy's version of Camelot).
  • Alternate Universe:
    • Naturally the case when you have so many iterations of Sonic in one package. Though things do differ between dimensions, especially in MP-2021's case. As specific examples:
      • MP-2021's iteration of Chaos Cola is dubbed "Rola-Cola", and is dubbed "Crackin' Cola" in NM-1973.
      • YouTube is dubbed "SEGATube" in all SEGA universes.
      • G.U.N. and MeteorTech are dubbed "S.I.G.U." (or "South Island Guardian Units") and "Comet-Innovation" respectively in Dimension MP-2021.
      • In the same universe, Tumblr still goes by Tumblelogs.
      • OMT!Tails does not know what either SAGE or the SHC is, since he doesn't have either in his universe.
      • McDonald's and Burger King are dubbed "McLovely's" and "Burger Monarchy" respectively in MP-2021.
      • Pop culture in MP-2021 is vastly different in contrast to most worlds; for instance, there's a marble-run comedy starring Chris Pratt dubbed "Don't Lose Your Marbles", and Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Zootopia both got sequels.
      • Planet Hollywood is instead dubbed "Planet Staroak" in MP-2021, and is South Island's main film industry there.
      • The classic cartoons in the Errorverse went and expanded Toontown into a full-blown Toontopia full of pre-computer-drawn cartoon characters.
      • Fazbear Entertainment went under new management in the Errorverse, this time not covering up their past misdeeds.
      • The BBC goes under the name "GBC" (or "Global Broadcasting Corporation") in the Errorverse's bounds.
    • New Identity, New Life serves as one for Bently Forceloyed/Alt Benjamin, being mostly disconnected from the events in the rest of the saga.
  • Answer Cut: During the fourth chapter of One More Hero, CR!Sonic starts to ponder about how those back at his dimension are doing. With the post to go by, we discover it's absolute chaos back there, before it cuts back to CR!Sonic who shrugs it off.
  • April Fools' Day: On April Fools' Day 2024, a post was made to advertise a game adaptation of the story... which is quickly undercut by OMT!Tails, Crossover Realm Sonic and Sally, and D-Sides Mighty each commenting on the fact that it's not feasible for such a large-scale project working with a copyrighted property as inspiration. That said, however, The Reveal of a new antagonist (who's revealed to be dubbed "EggOmega" in the Green Mountain script post) at the very end of the post is played completely seriously and does not contain anything even remotely funny.
  • Arc Words: "Take that first step". In the context of IAB!, it's shown to be a key factor around many different areas of Character Development; the characters in question need to be willing to start their path to a brighter future.
    • This is the main point for OMT!Tails in One More Hero, and Nine shares this advice with him that he takes to heart for the rest of the story and beyond.
    • It also serves as a major driving force for CR!Sonic in the same story, allowing him to return to his dimension once more with a fresh mind and be ready to be with his Sally once more.
    • Milly has this as a major plot point for her side-story, with EV!Amy passing on this advice and encouraging her to find the love of her life that will make sure she's happy and content.
  • Ascended Extra: The gender swapped Sonic.OMT showcased on Mr. Pixel's Twitter is considered non-canon officially. Here, though, it serves as a driving force of OMT!Mina's plot.
  • The Bad Guy Wins:
    • While Amy.OMT was outsmarted successfully, she still got the last laugh by killing Sonic and Tails and driving OMT!Mina into a Friendless Background.
    • Lost Memory Sonic's version of Eggman ultimately got what he wanted by unleashing the Amnesiac Hero-turned-villain into the multiverse's bounds, hence why he's the one trying to enforce a variant of canon events.
  • Bookends: One More Hero kicks off with the "one last time" backstory explanation, courtesy of OMT!Sonic. In that same sense, another "one last time" explanation (this time for THE last time) is told from OMT!Tails after More than One Universe and My Last Trauma.
  • The Cameo:
    • During the explanation as to how Dimension FNF-NEW-2023 came to be, Nonsense is seen in one of the pictures, not too happy with Boyfriend and Girlfriend breaking into his house just to challenge him.
    • Likewise, while Nitro's explaining about his whole Alternate Universe conundrum, he brings up Exault amongst the EXEs that Nitro.DLL intervened with.
    • Red is seen in a couple of the mockups, usually accompanied by Hedgehog Lilac. His presence is explained as a result of SEGA buying out Rovio, and he later contributes in the big chase in Many More Heroes, hanging onto Hedgelac for dear life.
  • Cosmic Retcon: Two of these come into play at different times.
    • For the Friday Night Funkin' universe, Pico finding an unknown entity resembling Bowser caused the realm to reset, with various changes caused to the series of events.
    • For the Errorverse, a full-blown universal reset occurred, fixing various painful deaths whilst making the EV-2019 variant of Mobius more lively by splitting its Mr. Tinker and Dr. Eggman into separate people.
    • In the case of the Sonic Prime series, this is played with. On one hand, Prime Sonic was able to stop a case of History Repeats by stopping himself from smashing the Paradox Prism, therefore ensuring the events never happened in the canon universe. That said, since the Shatterverse is perfectly intact in Into, Across and Beyond!, none of the events there have been wiped clean, instead having the Shatterspaces be their own sub-universe and being allowed to expand from there.
  • Dark Fic: Downplayed, as while the story doesn't go out of its way to treat the source works' characters negatively, it's still a Film Fic of a story with major character deaths, a high projected body count, and the fact that the idea of canon events still sucks, with conflict arising from that titanic amount of misery being swept under the rug by Lost Memory Sonic.
  • Darker and Edgier: The Dangerous Domain side-story is this to its source of inspiration, the third episode of Friendly Enmity. Whilst that was also quite dark, especially with the show of Mr. Virtual being a Greater-Scope Villain for the series, it also had its share of comedic moments strewn throughout it. However, in Nitro.DLL's run, there's barely any sign of comedy all throughout, and considering who the Big Bad of the side-story is, the entire situation is treated seriously right until the escape sequence.
  • Death by Adaptation: OMT!Sonic and OMT!Sally, and LM!Silver fell victim to this through seeming canon events.
  • Decomposite Character: In a sense. While OMT!Tails AND Antho both technically fill in the role for Miles Morales in this AU, the Mobiverse's events more strongly align with how Into the Spider-Verse played out, with Antho's Sonic dying to Mammoth Mogul and passing on the responsibility of shutting down the super-collider to Antho before kicking the bucket.
  • Deconstruction:
    • Like Spider-Verse itself, the plot deconstructs the concept of being obliged to be Truer to the Text. Lost Memory Sonic's strict ideals of "canon events" - repetitive narratives from past works and stories - such as losing a loved one or encountering a Sonic.exe, and deliberately attempting to confine someone to those story beats in the belief that these tragedies are necessary to be a world's hero and keep the universe stable, can rob them of their agency to develop their own unique stories and the possibility of them being happier and healthier for it, which the Quill Society properly embodies. Needless to say, OMT!Tails rightfully points out that LM!Sonic's ideals, in-universe AND out, are incredibly screwed up.
    • OMT!Tails, as a whole, deconstructs the concept of recursive fanworks of Sonic.exe and how it affects those involved. Namely, due to being canonically branded as OMT's favourite victim (alongside always being the first target due to his brotherly bond with Sonic), he suffers the worst out of the victims, his Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory forcing him to remember every single death he sustained in all four games of the Sonic.EXE: One More Saga and getting consistent nightmares from it that he held onto for a year straight before Sally found out, whereas the other victims only remembered their most recent fates and weren't affected as badly.
      • Likewise, after One More Hero, it's shown that he sustained his fever from the overabundance of Chaos energy from the Chaos Emeralds in his mission to stop Eggman Nega, this being a deconstruction of the prospect of a Super Mode and who can properly sustain it, such as Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow and Silver. It's the aftermath of the story that makes him swear to never use the seven Emeralds collectively ever again, not even to give him a boost in helping others, due to how much younger his body is and how much less he can sustain this power for long without support like his nanomachine suit.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: When describing what Sark is detained for in Tekno's cast post, EV!Sonic seemed to state that he's in for "unspeakable war crimes that are truly unspeakable", likely to avoid mentioning any words that contradict the aforementioned Ruder and Cruder things being removed.
  • The Earth-Prime Theory: This is discussed in one of the posts between characters, the theory being that if Sonic Prime's universe was destroyed, all those it branched from would rot, and any that have their creations subverted are to undergo a Cessation of Existence. Of course, the version of Nitro at the scene questions the theory, considering the Shatterverse is perfectly intact in IAB!. The theory is ultimately debunked by the end of Tails of Trials, as the Greater-Scope Villain's attempted attack on the Prime universe does nothing to stop more universes from being created by the second. The worst the theory really did was wearing down several Sonics during an unseen EXE attack on the Prime universe.
  • Eldritch Location: Besides it coming with the warranty of being a Sonic.exe universe, Dimension EXE-2013, the home of the original, has a realistic background, which sharply contrasts with the rest of the pixelated art on display in the mockup that shows Sonic.EXE's reveal.
  • Film Fic: It's Spider-Verse, but having Sonic, his friends and enemies in the starring roles instead.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: Of the "Scripting" posts, "Canon Aversion Attempts" is the first one to have mockups shown from a top-down perspective (with maps from The Sims: Bustin' Out as the basis), as all mockups beforehand were in complete 2D planes.
  • Foreshadowing: In an early point of One More Hero, CR!Sonic is quick to assume that OMT!Robotnik is behind him winding up in the OMT universe, alongside the Paradox Prism. Of course, he is right on the money about the villain behind it being a Eggman, just not the one he was thinking of or the means of messing with the multiverse.
  • Gecko Ending:
    • It's confirmed that, before these events started, OMT was ultimately destroyed, though at the cost of Sonic's life, meaning everyone else can live a generally nice life again.
    • After trying to overpower Xenophanes hundreds of times, EX!Alice, along with Veronica and Caffrin, the latter of which pulled a Heel–Face Turn in her last moments, took down the monster once and for all, though it came at the cost of the Gamer Girl's life.
    • Subverted for the base Friday Night Funkin' universe; after Mario’s Madness, Boyfriend and Girlfriend are successfully killed by M, though this victory is spoiled by Pico unwittingly causing a full-blown Cosmic Retcon that rewrites a MASSIVE portion of the FNF universe to be different.
    • Due to Archie Sonic Online being canon here, several hanging plots were cleared up:
  • Holiday Nonupdate: On certain special holidays, posts are made to celebrate each occasion, none of which are generally considered canon to the main stories. As examples:
  • Hypocritical Humor: In one of the posts that well precedes any of the story's events, XE!Sonic actively stops Xenomorphic from making fun of Karilvatch and his part-angelic sister, though when he asks about Toxinfect, he himself makes fun of the monster, which X lampshades.
  • Immediate Sequel: Hog's involvement in the AU takes place right after the conclusion of his official story, albeit with him being warped into the Crossover Realm universe right at the last second.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Although the Amy counterpart seen during the One More Hero story isn't the one from the IDW comics, Surge still sees them all as the same anyway, giving her a reason to attack EX!Alice and attempt to outright kill her in the climax.
  • Insane Troll Logic: When encountering LM!Sonic, the Rocket Metal from Hues of Metal uses the idea of the hedgehog being an apparent stereotypical tourist to Australia (likely connected to Rocket's accent in the series) as a means of antagonising him.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: The prime focus of this film fic is combining several areas of Sonic's history and numerous fanworks into a single storyline.
  • Mercy Kill: In a bid to put an end to the Green Mountain curse and unlock the path to Dimension UNK-0013, OMT!Tails does this to the rotting Sonic (dubbed "End") to give it the peace it wanted for so long.
  • Meta Twist: Sonic.exe is treated as a canon event in IAB!, though there is a double twist to this point - encounters with EXEs are surprisingly rare, despite the high quantity of EXE fangames, and the first documented case in the Quill Society's logs is a universe that does not have such an encounter in the canon story.
  • Misery Builds Character: Like the original Spider-Verse, the dark side of the whole "canon event" theory is it implying that the stress of fighting and losing people always benefits a hero of a Sonic world in the long-run. Unsurprisingly, considering the Quill Society is on Adaptational Sympathy outright, both it and the Blur Gang comes into conflict with LM!Sonic, both factions knowing that it's completely unnecessary.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Like Sonic Villains, the universe strings are typically named in a letter-number fashion (AA-0000), the numbers usually corresponding to what year that part of the franchise, fanfic or fan-game released (or intended to). As an example, the universe of Sonic Superstars is dubbed Dimension MULTI-2023.
      • The dimension string for Sonic/Avalice Blitz is BL-2017, 2017 being the year when Freedom Planet 2 began development.
      • The dimension strings for Mr. Needlemouse and the Needlem0use continuity are NM-1973 and NM-1963 respectively. The former harkens to the days of classic cartoons, whilst the latter is based on the year everything went horribly wrong for Sarah.
      • The dimension string for Animator vs. Animation is simply "alans_pc", which is based on generic Windows PC names.
      • Dimension RE-2014's numbers harken to the release year of Sally.exe, the creepypasta that SONIC Lost Drive started off remaking from the ground-up.
      • UNK-0013 is the sole outlier, with the rule of 13 Is Unlucky not being a good sign for this universe thus far. The post scripting the end of the Green Mountain fight in Tails of Trials confirms this to be the dimension where Dr. EggOmega resides.
      • Dimension EXE-2013's number is not the year the original creepypasta story released (in 2011), but rather when the official game by MY5TCrimson came out.
    • Likewise, to tie in with Funkinverse, a few FNF universes also have their own special string numbers for their Earths. Discounting any already mentioned over on that work's page:
      • Earth-169 is for Friday Night Funkin': B-Side Remixes, with September 16th being the date when the Redux version of the mod released.
      • Earth-427 is for Friday Night Funkin' Minus, with April 27th 2023 being when Minus Love Letter came out.
      • Earth-21821 is the Friday Night Funkin': Neo universe. 21st August 2021 (in UK notation) is when the 3.0 update for the mod originally intended to release before being pushed back.invoked
      • Earth-22512 is for the world of Arrow Funk, the corresponding date (May 12th 2022) being when the mod was officially recognised by Phantom Arcade.
      • Judging by Cam's off-handed mention to Benjamin, Earth-103122 is the universe where Funkin' Corruption: REIMAGINED took place, October 31st 2022 being when the mod's full story update released publicly.
      • Benjamin's own universe number is Earth-111723, the date here being when the first ever post for IAB! came out on Tumblr.
      • And finally, the universe of Friday Night Funkin' - Childhood Memories is Earth-8814, with January 4th 1988 being when Nick Jr. first launched proper as a programming block.
    • During the action date sequence, Superstars Amy offhandedly mentions about a dimension that's a "popcorn factory themed around Sonic".
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: During the climax of More than One Universe's first half, OMT!Sally intervenes and helps defend OMT!Tails from Richard. During the fight, however, she endures a fatal attack and dies shortly after in Tails's arms. Later, when Tails attempts to murder Richard in a blind rage, he is stopped by CU!Sonic, who gets stabbed in the back by Richard for his efforts. He does get better, though.
  • No OSHA Compliance: Like its game of inspiration, LM!Sonic's dorm in the Quill Society headquarters would not pass a safety test, having loads of wires left around the floor and leaving major tripping hazards as a result.
  • Noodle Incident: At one point, there was a small incident where Blitz!Milla ended up almost mistaking Mobiverse Tails for her boyfriend.
  • Not His Sled: Lost Memory Sonic is not his original incarnation, but one where Eggman ultimately won and killed off Silver and Amy to drive him into a downward spiral. The same applies to Soft Boyfriend / Benjamin Fairest, whose counterparts here, in canon and in the Funkinverse continuity are separate.
  • Only Sane Man: During the "Hues of Trouble" sequence in Cosmic Discoveries, Metallix considers himself this amidst everyone else's antics (despite the fact that he's Not So Above It All at times in the series) whilst chasing down OMT!Tails and Melody to stop their escape. He even declares that he's Surrounded by Idiots before he starts giving chase.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • In the "Hues of Trouble" post, Metal Sonic realises something's horribly amiss when OMT!Tails starts slightly bleeding from the eyes (the earliest sign that he had been infected with the Chimera Virus which was otherwise dormant) and immediately considered getting him in for treatment, which thankfully happens once Tails returns to the Quill Society HQ.
    • In the climax of Cosmic Discoveries, OMT!Tails is cited to have threatened to unleash many EXEs into LM!Sonic's universe, up to and including OMT, the one entity that kickstarted his trip in the first place. The fact he's planning to do that when he never normally would speaks volumes of how the blur-turned-villain had gone way too far. Fortunately, Skye was there to help calm OMT!Tails down and change his Tranquil Fury approach up.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: Several of the character picks have had creative liberties taken with them due to limits being in place for both the presented sprite art and canon limitations. That, and to allow more creativity to come out of the project as a whole.
    • Because EX!Alice doesn't canonically have a robot counterpart like Peni Parker did, this necessitated creating a companion for her to make use of.
    • Some of the counterparts do not mirror their character positions perfectly due to these limitations. For instance, Plush Spider-Man is swapped out for Sunky and Tlels, two characters from a parody version of Sonic, and Peter Parkedcar, instead of being a sentient vehicle, is Carol and her motorbike.
    • Due to Crossover Realm Sonic having yet to start a family canonically, the spot filled for Peter B. Parker is split into two; one for the aforementioned blue blur, and the other for ChaosIIUniverse Sonic and his daughter. CR!Sonic does have a family of his own post-One More Hero, though, but they don't get as actively involved in these adventures to begin with.
    • There are two counterparts of Margo that have their own places in the storyline; Nine, who is on the side of OMT!Tails following his series' events, and a version of Nicole, who works alongside the Quill Society and aligns more with the scripting of Across, likely down to the Ship Tease Miles and Margo got between them.
    • Anything resembling Gwen's Peter / The Lizard would be very Out of Character for OMT!Mina's Sonic and/or Tails, with their deaths instead attributed to a version of OMT wearing a vessel based on Amy Rose.
  • Recursive Canon:
  • Recursive Fanfiction: Like projects such as Underverse before it, Into, Across and Beyond! is a crossover between several other Sonic the Hedgehog works (official AND fan-made).
  • Retcon: Due to the Archie Comics and Underground universes branching from the pre-Super Genesis Wave era, none of the post-SGW content (which includes the absence of Worlds Collide in the Archie Sonic Online continuity) ever happens.
  • Screen Name: Anyone who's in the Blur Gang or Quill Society (well, MOST people, anyway) have their own SEGANet accounts with screen names included.
  • Screw Destiny: This seems to be a running theme throughout Into, Across and Beyond!, hence the various deviations from the base scripts. For More than One Universe, OMT!Tails refuses to go through with erasing all memory of his companionships, hence allowing him to still enjoy the company of his friends, and Many More Heroes embodies this tenfold with the Quill Society, most of which aren't even inclined with the whole idea of "canon events".
    • The failed timelines seem destined for erasure by unknown forces, but many of their inhabitants were saved and escorted safely into the Omega Timeline/OMEGA Universe for a safe place to live.
    • Due to Pico unwittingly causing a Cosmic Retcon to the FNF universe, he ended up causing this, thus allowing Benjamin to survive Ultra M's fatal attack and work to stop him and rescue Grace from his clutches.
    • Likewise, the Cosmic Retcon for the Errorverse also caused this, averting several "canon events" linked to it, like the Start of Darkness that got Audrey cursed and Kyuzi's fated death.
  • Seen It All: Thanks to his world being a major foothold for Crossover content (mainly through mods), the Sonic Robo Blast 2 counterpart of Sonic isn't really fazed by an alternate version of his sidekick and a bootleg counterpart of himself coming into Greenflower Zone unannounced.
  • Shared Universe: Through the "X for Danger" post, it's implied that IAB! and Funkinverse are part of the same connected mass multiverse, alongside the original Spider-Man: Spider-Verse series also being cited as such via a "Not So Different" Remark from The X. This is ultimately confirmed via another post, which also accents the events of Funkinverse here as an Alternate Continuity.
  • Shipping Torpedo: Amongst the "canon events", there is one that limits the Sonic and Tails romantic interests down to Amy or Sally, and Cosmo, Cream or Zooey respectively, supposedly due to any attempts on their part to love another ending in disaster. This doesn't go down well with any Sonic or Tails who is in a truly stable relationship with someone who isn't one of the aforementioned characters.
  • Shoo Out the Clowns: Of the Into, Across and Beyond! stories, More than One Universe is the only one where Mr. Needlemouse is outright absent.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The whole layout of MP-2021 South Island after OMT's downfall is a wholesale nod to its design from in-progress fan RPG, Sonic and the Rings of Order.
    • During the Action Prologue, there is a small few.
    • The conversation that plays out between EV!Sonic and OMT!Ash in the Action Prologue is structured in the same manner as that from the Doctor Who 2005 Christmas Episode, with EV!Sonic employing the same near-Tranquil Fury tactic to make the G.U.N. soldiers stand down and buy him and OMT!Mina time to leave.
      • Likewise, in Many More Heroes, OMT!Tails calls out LM!Sonic in the same vein as the Doctor called out Eddie Connolly in "The Idiot's Lantern", this time around his abusive nature towards Fiona Fox.
    • The food and meal options presented in the Quill Society's cafĂ© include a mix of those from Subway (like the Tex Mexan Sandwich), alongside those introduced as part of the Sonic X IHop collaboration (like the Tails' 2x2x2 and Dr. Eggman's Benedict).
  • Spared by the Adaptation:
    • The entire OMT cast! At least, except for that universe's Sonic. Thanks to his efforts, those characters have been able to live a life free of OMT forcing them into endless loops of agonising death.
    • As the Mario's Madness and Vs. Sonic.exe locations are all cited to have become their own universes following the events of the Rivals' Madness concept, none of them or their characters are left bound as slaves to Ultra M or Xenophanes.
  • The Stations of the Canon: The trope is discussed in much the same way as the original Spider-Verse films, with the topic of canon events and that all of them, good or bad, must seemingly play out uninterrupted if they start happening, even if it means others end up dying. A good number of the cast don't even have all the criteria for the major "canon events", and the third criteria, which states that at least one Sonic.exe has to have terrorised a universe, sparks ire from those who never even encountered such entities (like LEGO Sonic or Blitz!Tails), those who are/have been EXEs themselves (Sarah, Sunky and RAW), and those that have bonded with an EXE as a friend or loved one (like EV!Sonic and Milly).
  • The Stinger: The post-credit scene of More than One Universe plays out like the one from Into did, only here, Lost Memory Sonic is forced to put up with the antics of OVA Sonic and quickly gets sidetracked from what he had planned. As seen in other posts, this Sonic, alongside his Knuckles and Sara, got hired into the Quill Society after this shenanigan.
  • Take That!:
    • The infamous kiss sequence is used as a stand-in for Earth-1610B Peter's "bully Maguire" phase.
    • One of the billboards pictured in Gust Planet Zone (that being the swap-in for the Spider-HQ) has a jumbled version of the Sonic Omens logo (the second word being scrambled backwards to "SNEMO"), along with text giving clear prods at the fangame's controversial overshadowing.
    • Turbo being a little bit more immature and The Friend Nobody Likes is meant to align with the criticism surrounding him in his introduction, dubbing him as a direct ripoff of Sonic due to not deviating as much from the original.
    • Sark is amongst various prisoners held by the Quill Society, and unlike most that are sent back to their dimensions, it's stated that the villain is outright erased off-screen, likely due to his controversial misdeeds in his game of origin.
    • Earth-67's counterpart is the universe of Sonic Underground. While not a jab on its own, it's the Sonic picked for this role that throws jabs at the series' base-breaking things.
    • CD!Sonic's repeat customer for therapy is a version of Sonic dubbed "Charlie", from the very poor-quality Sonic 2 1990 Lost Prototype game that's just a generic Sonic.exe game. As it happens, he's the ONLY Sonic the formerly-depressed hedgehog actually dislikes.
    • Dimension JC-231 is the universe of the original Sonic.exe creepypasta stories, including Sonic.exe Remake, and is frowned upon by all Quill Society members, including Lost Memory Sonic.
    • The ever-infamous Bench Tails (who Pico DS implores that you do NOT look up, so Take Our Word for It) is a wanted criminal that has been successfully killed in every universe where he had existed (of which there were only 20 appearances counted amidst the scope of the thousands of other dimensions).
    • AI-generated art is frowned upon a lot amongst the main characters in Dimension MP-2021, and as such, one of the side plots of One More Hero involves OMT!Tails sharing out a petition on CraftyCorn's behalf to outlaw it, the signatures being helped by his Blur Gang allies.
  • Take That, Audience!: In the post revealing about OMT!Tails's Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory and the trauma he endured because of it, OMT!Sonic, beyond the grave, appears in an act of Breaking the Fourth Wall to call out the constant practice of making Sonic.exe fan games that always have Tails suffering for it, especially in the dawn of One Last Round promising multiple routes that very clearly lead nowhere but to alternate deaths.
"If even one more version of my companions is forced to suffer at the hands of an EXE as of the day this post was made... you'd seriously better hope you can run WAY faster than I can."
  • Time Skip: Six months pass between One More Hero and More than One Universe, though it's confirmed in a post that the time flow of different universes varies from world to world. For some specific examples:
    • Dimension CR-2017 had six years pass, giving time for CR!Sonic's children to be born and grow.
    • Dimension PDH-2011 (not NS-2021, in this case) also had six months pass, like with MP-2021.
    • Dimension JA-1991 only had a month to go by, while the universe is still stuck in 1992.
    • It's left unknown just how much time had passed in Dimension NM-1973 before Into the Sonic-verse, due to the dimension running on Comic-Book Time.
    • and Dimension EX-2022 had 10 months pass before MtOU, giving EX!Alice time to make some new machines after E4 got destroyed back at MP-2021. She also fully relegated into a Genki Girl mindset after that point, the opposite effect that Peni went through between films.
  • Truer to the Text: Xenophanes is outright stated to have come from his own game in the real world and not a version of Mobius, which makes EX!Alice a standout character amongst the other hedgehogs, foxes and other such members of the Blur Gang.
  • Wham Shot: Throughout "Dangerous Domain", it's mentioned that Toxinfect is constantly keeping a seemingly random computer monitor sealed in one of his chambers. When Nitro.DLL and Roze try to investigate later on, it manages to break out all on its own and reveal itself as another Sonic.exe entity, known as SoniTOR.
  • Your Size May Vary: Because of the limitations in what sprites Pico DS is able to use and/or edit for Into, Across and Beyond!, not all characters in the sprite mockups (standout cases including Blitz!Tails, Sunky and Tlels) match up to their canon size scales.

"I never thought I'd be able to do any of this stuff. But I can! Anyone can wear the shoes of a hero! YOU could wear those shoes, too. If you didn't know that before, I hope you do now. 'Cause I'm Miles 'Tails' Prower! And I'm not the only hero out there, not by a long shot!"
