Old childhood memories await.
Art made by Amaya Mizumi

Friday Night Funkin' - Childhood Memories is a Friday Night Funkin' mod created by NotSoDevy and currently directed by Pico Digital Studios and BEC Enterprises, which has a focus on several childhood classics that many have grown up with over the years.

The mod follows young best friends, Evan and Holly, as they are pulled into the world of childhood classics by a lightning-induced accident with Holly's DVD player. Now the two need to go through many childhood memories to get back out to the real world.

The mod can be downloaded and played here and here for Psych Engine 0.6.3 and Restructure Engine.

This mod contains the following examples:

  • Adaptation Name Change: Boyfriend and Girlfriend are renamed "Evan" and "Holly" respectively.
  • Adapted Out: In the "Rocket Trip" section of the mod, June, Quincy and Annie are nowhere to be seen. This is explained in the cutscene before the song, though, in that the group was having a day off from adventure, and Leo was taking the time to practice some music alone before Evan and Holly arrived.
"Oh, sorry. Where are my manners? I'm Leo! I'm a leader of a group of friends of mine! Thing is, they're pretty busy elsewhere today, so I've been rehearsing here on my own... At least, until you showed up, heh."
    • For half of the secret songs, the original Boyfriend takes Evan's place as the playable character against the opponents.
    • For "Rot or Flourish", Boots is nowhere to be seen, meaning Dora's in the middle of the situation on her own with only Backpack at her aid.
  • Age Lift: While in canon, Boyfriend and Girlfriend are both 19 and legal adults, in Childhood Memories, Evan and Holly are 8 and 10 respectively to match up with the mod's overall theme.
  • Best Friend: Evan and Holly are this to one another, instead of being a couple due to their age.
  • Character Catchphrase: As per the norm for Team Umizoomi, Bot has "Great Gigabytes!" (mainly in surprise seeing Evan), and Milli has "Pattern... power!" when she's ready to sing with Evan.
  • The Cameo: During "Dried Up Hill", Tails/Alan can be seen behind Milli, though serves no major part in the song other than feeling horrified at the monster before him.
  • Content Warning: Due to all of the characters present in this mod being minors (even extending to Boyfriend/Evan and Girlfriend/Holly as mentioned above), the README file warns against any and ALL Rule 34 artwork of the characters.
  • Cover Version: "Rocket Trip" is a cover of the theme song from Little Einsteins.
    • "Dried Up Hill" and "Rot or Flourish" are both covers of "Black Sun" and "Darnell Wet Fart/Bold or Brash" (specifically a remixed/cover version) respectively.
  • Epic Fail: At the beginning of "Angles", Jack Black plans to show off an octagon... however, like the episode of origin, he outright forgot to bring an octagon with him, kickstarting the song's events.
"Here, let me show you! Oh no... Oh, man! I totally forgot to bring an octagon! This is embarrassing..."
  • Expy Coexistence:
    • In the Joke Week, Evan and the original Boyfriend briefly duel against each other.
    • For "Rot or Flourish", Amanda the Adventurer is up against her inspiration, Dora the Explorer herself.
  • Family-Unfriendly Death: Subverted for "Patterns (Tankman Mix)" in that, while Milli is killed at the end, it isn't in any gory fashion (save for some blood near her head), and Milli is just lying unconscious with "X"'s on her eyes. However, this is played straight if Milli loses "Dried Up Hill", in which Sonic.exe will eat her whole. Fortunately, no organs or blood are left behind.
  • Flipping the Bird: The drawer in the Phantasm cover does this in its left pose, with a glove quite akin to that of Mickey Mouse.
  • Friendly Enemy: In the main story, all of the opponents are nothing but really nice towards Evan and Holly, singing with him for some light-hearted fun rather than a mean goal. Even Face, who initially intimidates Evan, is an overly kind guy in general.
  • Game Over: The original Game Over sequence for Evan is swapped out for him sneezing and feeling a little downbeat about losing. He quickly regains his confidence if you choose to retry, of course.
  • Lighter and Softer: By a LONG shot compared to a lot of mods, and Friday Night Funkin' in general, due to the more lighthearted and nostalgic feeling the mod intends to show. A couple of the secret songs go in the opposite direction, however...
  • Nerf: "Elmo Phantasm", compared to the original version of the song, only has you having to deal with Elmo's notes instead of those for both him and the Drawer. The Drawer itself does all its notes on its own with its own strumline.
  • No Ending: As of the first release, there is currently no conclusion to Evan and Holly's story, the kids still trapped in the world of childhood shows.
  • No Plot? No Problem!: The simple synopsis of this mod is to duel against various characters from childhood content.
  • Pint-Sized Kid: Milli and Geo, as per their appearances in Team Umizoomi, to the point where they're both smaller than Evan himself. While not a kid himself, Bot also counts.
  • Promoted to Playable: Tankman in "Patterns (Tankman Mix)", Elmo in "Elmo Phantasm" and "Your Reality", and Milli in "Raw or Unraw" and "Dried Up Hill".
  • Retraux: Each of the songs have a logo to the side corresponding to what channel the original media was/is hosted on. For instance, "Rocket Trip" has the logo of Playhouse Disney at the bottom-left.
    • The interface "Patterns (Tankman Mix)" takes place in harkens back to the early days of YouTube, having its original design overlay what's going on.
    • The entirety of "Dried Up Hill" is in the art-style of Sonic the Hedgehog, from the sprites to the HUD and even the background. The chromatics of Sonic.exe and Milli are fittingly bitcrushed to match.
    • The playable version of "Umizoomi" (a cover version of "Watterson") uses the Nintendo DS aesthetic and character sprites for the crew, right down to the Limited Animation all three characters have in that game.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Tankman, as per his original web video and base Friday Night Funkin', loves to blurt out bad language at any opportunity. He does this at the end of "Patterns (Tankman Mix)" at Milli's expense, which comes across as a bit strange amidst all the other family-friendly content in the mod.
"Man... Are you tired of eating shit yet? *laughs*"
  • Stepford Smiler: Amanda spends the majority of "Rot or Flourish" smiling which, whilst masking the entity within, does mask how she's really feeling at that moment. She outright loses this smile after the entity tries to take control near the end of the cover, though.
  • Stylistic Suck: The drawer has this Played for Laughs, with its poses being equivalent to a PNG being moved about. Its "vocals" are also a bunch of funny sound effects, due to it not actually speaking at all in Elmo's World. "Angles" also has the character sprites just images from the show.
    • In terms of the secret songs, "Raw or Unraw" just has images for the characters, the Drip Elinor sprite in "HOLY FUCK" just jumps around and has no other sprites, and the sprites for raysipeladygaga in "Banned" mostly comprise of the same image of him holding a gun in different colors.
  • Trapped in TV Land: The basic premise of the mod is Evan and Holly being trapped in the world of childhood classics after a lightning strike damaged Evan's DVD player and dragged them in.
  • Unwinnable by Design: "Raw or Unraw"'s ending leads to Gordon Ramsay losing his temper, the resulting explosion causing a Non-Standard Game Over. As such, the song cannot be fully completed by normal means.
  • Version-Exclusive Content: As of the mod's initial release, while the Restructure engine build only has the songs from Childhood Volume 1 and "Elmo Phantasm", it's also the only version to have a cover of "Your Reality" from Doki Doki Takeover! Plus.
