Go To

Due to the Anyone Can Die nature of the show and quickly moving plots, only spoilers from the current/most recent season will be spoiled out to prevent entire pages of whited out text. These spoiler tags will be removed upon the debut of the following season, and the character bios will be updated then as well. Additionally, character portraits will be updated each half-season with the release of an official, complete set from AMC. If you have not seen the first ten seasons read at your own risk!

Satellite Outpost

    In General

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amc_612_saviors_compound2.png

A Savior outpost in an abandoned satellite relay station. This subgroup is the one that initially handles the Hilltop Colony and is the first to come into conflict with Rick's group, which results in their complete destruction. The outpost is subsequently reclaimed and repopulated by the Saviors under the command of Simon.

  • Badass Biker: A gang of them like to drive around on motorcycles. They get blown up by Daryl.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Bud's biker group tries this with the combination of Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham, all of whom are very lethal people. They get blown up for their attempt. Similarly, Paula's group tries to do this to Maggie and Carol. Their deaths are a lot more brutal and painful than Bud and his group's as a result.
  • Corporal Punishment: They punish rule-breaking by severing one of the guilty party's fingers. Michelle lost a finger for stealing gasoline.
  • Creepy Souvenir: One of them has a collage made of photographs of people with their heads crushed proudly displayed by his bed.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: With the destruction of the outpost and Primo's execution, the survivors of Alexandria and the Hilltop believe that Negan has been killed and the Saviors wiped out. They soon learn just how wrong they were. The Saviors reclaim the outpost but lose it again in Season 8.
  • Fat and Skinny: The two guards at the door.
  • Faux Affably Evil: To varying degrees. Bud and his gang feign kindness, but have every intention to kill Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham no matter what. Paula's group, meanwhile, is a lot more friendly to their captives (Maggie and Carol) and, until they rebel, are reasonable and willing to negotiate with Rick for their safe return.
  • High Times Future: They have their own marijuana growing room.
  • I Have Your Wife: They take Hilltop resident Craig hostage to force his brother Ethan to assassinate Gregory.
  • Kill It with Fire: The last stragglers from the outpost, a scout crew, get burned alive by Carol.
  • Make an Example of Them: When the Librarians started an uprising, they hanged one of them as an example. When they continued fighting, Simon had them wiped out. They later hang the Sole Survivor to serve as a cautionary example for Rick's group.
  • Moving the Goalposts: They decide that the Hilltop isn't giving them enough supplies anymore, so they kill two of them, kidnap another, and demand the head of their leader.
  • Quirky Miniboss Squad: The Mooks tend to be fairly eccentric, especially after Simon takes command.
  • Satellite Character: No pun intended. This trope applies to the Saviors who defected to AHK alongside Alden towards the end of Season 8. None of them get any Character Development, but usually they are seen immediately following whatever Alden says or does (in "Wrath", as soon as Alden announces he's staying with Tara, the other Saviors immediately appear behind him) to show that they have pulled their Heel–Face Turn.
  • Slain in Their Sleep: Many of the original group are killed in their sleep by Rick's group.
  • Starter Villain: This is the main Savior faction Rick’s group deals with in Season 6, from "Always Accountable" to "The Same Boat." It is not, as they believe, the only Savior group. Furthermore, they were quite easily beaten, as Rick's group was able to kill all of them without a single fatality. Simon, who later takes command of the outpost's new inhabitants, theorizes that they grew soft dealing with someone as compliant as Gregory.
  • Sucksessor: Inverted. While the original Saviors at the satellite outpost allowed the Hilltop to make regular supply drops off location, the new guys under Simon show up and lure in walkers in the middle of the night, then take half of Hilltop's stuff. Simon humiliates Gregory and walks off with his prized painting and scotch.
  • Trojan Horse: Unbeknownst to them, the truck they send from Hilltop to the Sanctuary contains both Carl, who kills two Saviors and almost takes out Negan himself and Jesus, who marks a trail to the Sanctuary.
  • Unknown Rival: They have absolutely no idea who the Alexandrians are, where they came from, or why they're attacking them.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Jesus mentions that when the Saviors first came to the Hilltop, they beat a sixteen year old boy to death just to let the community know who they were dealing with.

Pre-Destruction

    Bud

Bud

"If you have to eat shit, best not to nibble. Bite, chew, swallow, repeat. It goes quicker."

Portrayed By: Christopher Berry

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 6)

"Your property now belongs to Negan."

A Savior leads a small but heavily-armed biker gang.

  • Adaptation Dye-Job: His comic counterpart is blonde.
  • Asshole Victim: Killed by Daryl and nobody is crying.
  • Badass Biker: By virtue of leading a pack of Saviors on a bike.
  • Beard of Evil: Has a scruffy beard and is a violent Savior.
  • Bullying a Dragon: He may have Daryl, Sasha, and Abe outnumbered and outgunned, but they're not the helpless sheep he seems to think they are, let alone the rest of their group. Sure enough, Daryl overpowers one of his men and annihilates the group.
  • Character Death: Gets blown up by Daryl's rocket launcher.
  • Complexity Addiction: Molly's reaction to hearing how he was killed imply he's got this, as she scoffs that he probably put on a big show when confronting Daryl, Sasha and Abraham.
  • Death by Adaptation: In the comics, Rick and co. spared him so he can tell Negan that they don't need his "protection" and that they're not afraid of him, and he later appears among the crowd of Saviors when Negan kills Glenn. Here, Daryl blows him to bits along with his pals from the get go.
  • Decomposite Character: His comic role as the lead savior during Negan's first appearance goes to Simon on the show.
  • Dual Wielding: Wields two pistols at once.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He comes off as superficially charming, and cheerfully explains that he'll end Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham if they step out of line.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: He doesn't seem to have been very popular among the Saviors. Molly speaks dismissively of him after his death and Negan refers to his gang as "the dick brigade."
  • I Lied: Assures Abraham and Sasha that he won't kill them... until he thinks about it for a second and decides that he is going to. Fortunately, a rocket launcher-wielding Daryl has other ideas.
  • Jerkass: Thoroughly unpleasant and irritatingly smug.
  • Large Ham: Absolutely chews the scenery with every line that comes out of his mouth. Even his fellow Saviors, who are by no means a subtle group, consider him to be this, as Molly derisively (and correctly) assumes that he "put on a show."
  • Ludicrous Gibs: He and the rest of his gang are left in "pieces and puddles." The largest bit of him left is his head.
  • Middle-Management Mook: Seems to be one of Wade's top enforcers, as he leads his own small team.
  • Named by the Adaptation: He's a nameless Mook in the comics. Even on the show, he was credited as "Negan's Scout" and his name was only revealed during a Reddit AMA that his actor did.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Derogatorily refers to Abraham as a "ginger."
  • Smug Snake: Spends the majority of his first appearance rambling proudly about how Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham owe Negan everything they've got. Daryl ends up quickly taking care of him and his gang.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Blown apart with an RPG by Daryl.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Killed at the end of his first scene, which is spread across two episodes.

    Paula

Paula

"What are you so afraid of?"

Portrayed By: Alicia Witt

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 6)

"I'm still me, but better. I lost everything and it made me stronger."

The leader of a small team of Saviors that captures Carol and Maggie after everyone at their compound is killed.

  • And Then John Was a Zombie: She turns after being impaled and partially eaten, dying due to a nasty neck bite, and is put down by Maggie.
  • Asshole Victim: The only distress regarding her death comes from Carol, who has grown weary of killing, and her fellow Saviors.
  • Bad Boss: Leaves Donnie unconscious while he's still bleeding out from his wounds. This naturally leads to his death.
  • Badass Boast: Talks about how she stopped counting after her kills entered the double digits.
  • Bullying a Dragon: She and her comrades mock Carol and Maggie nonstop, and pay the ultimate price for it.
  • Canon Foreigner: She never appeared in the comics.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: First she is impaled on a pole by Carol, then a walker slowly eats her face off while she is still alive.
  • The Cynic: Due to her experiences in the zombie apocalypse, she has abandoned all trappings of morality or empathy, focusing on survival by any means.
  • Dark Action Girl: As much of a killer as Carol, just with zero morals.
  • Death Seeker: After the events of the episode, she seems to have become this. She taunts a gun-wielding Carol after she's been warned to run away, and tries to attack her.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Seems to cross it after, over the course of a single day, her home and everyone in it is destroyed and her closest friends are slaughtered by her captives.
  • Eaten Alive: A walker starts chowing down on her face after she gets impaled.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Or rather, did. She mentions having had a large family before the apocalypse that she loved.
  • Everybody's Dead, Dave: She and her three companions return to their home only to find that Rick's group have slaughtered everyone but Primo.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Mixed with Villain Has a Point. Paula disregards Carol and Maggie's entreaties that Rick is an honorable man and can be reasoned with, and instead decides he and their friends are simply waiting for an opportune moment to strike. She even flat out tells them that's what she would do.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Carol. Both started out as weak people, but over time developed into hardened killers. The difference is that Paula has lost any semblance of her humanity she once had and has no empathy or moral qualms whatsoever. Carol might have seen a possible future version of herself in Paula which combined with Morgan's words and killing Owen might have led to her decision to leave.
  • Evil Redhead: She's a redheaded unrepentant murderer.
  • Facial Horror: Gets half of her face devoured by a walker after she's impaled on rebar.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: She was a meek and put-upon secretary before the apocalypse, eventually becoming a hardened, nihilistic killer.
  • Hero of Another Story: Has a very fleshed-out backstory.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: She gets impaled on a metal bar by Carol.
  • Jerkass: Arrogant, aggressive, and snide.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: She mocks Maggie's choice to get pregnant in the apocalypse, given that the world is too dangerous for small children. In her defense, and given what we've seen of the defenseless Judith, she's really not wrong.
  • Karmic Death: She treated Carol like crap at every turn and bragged about not being afraid of death. Carol ends up causing her to die a painful death.
  • Kick the Dog: Mocks Carol and Maggie every chance she gets.
  • Kick The Son Of A Bitch: Refuses to help Donnie with his gunshot wound via Carol.
  • Middle-Management Mook: She leads a small team of Saviors and has some authority at the Satellite Outpost.
  • Mini-Boss: She's the primary antagonist of "The Same Boat."
  • Never Got to Say Goodbye: Due to the army taking over D.C. once the outbreak started, she was stuck with her boss rather than being able to return to her husband and four daughters, whom she loved very much.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Her decision to knock out Donnie and ignore the fact that he requires medical attention indirectly leads to his and Molly's deaths.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: She makes the sexist claim that "guys can't handle pain."
  • Redemption Rejection: Carol tries to get Paula to stand down due to a combination of not wanting to resort to violence and death, and seeing Paula as someone she could have been had she not met Rick and the others. Paula isn't buying it, and she dies for her resistance.
  • Smug Snake: She's so smug that she never once worries about the possibility that Carol and Maggie are smarter than they look.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Paula definitely should have been warier of Carol.
  • Villain Ball: She decides to make Rick's group wait for hours until deciding to make a hostage trade, completely ignoring the fact that Donnie is bleeding out from his wounds and requires medical attention from Primo. This indirectly leads to his and Molly's deaths.
  • Villain Has a Point: Maggie and Carol urge her to negotiate with Rick, but Paula (rather smartly, given what she happens to know at the time) decides she isn't about to trust a man who just slaughtered her entire community in their sleep to keep his word.
  • Villainous Friendship: She seems to get along well with Molly and Michelle.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: She dies in the only episode she appears in.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: She does have a valid moment of this when she points out that, from her point of view, Maggie and Carol's group simply showed up out of nowhere and killed off most everybody she knows.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Paula doesn't seem to care when she learns that Maggie is pregnant. She even makes fun of her for it, seeing it as a stupid decision in the wake of the apocalypse.

    Molly

Molly

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/molly.jpg
"I'm a dead woman walking."

Portrayed By: Jill Jane Clements

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 6)

"We are all Negan."

An elderly Savior who is part of Paula's team.

  • Adaptation Expansion: Only mentioned in the comics.
  • Affably Evil: She's still something of a Jerkass to Carol and Maggie but has a more jovial demeanor than her companions.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Her friends call her "Molls."
  • Evil Old Folks: Nasty and violent, despite being well into her sixties.
  • Faux Action Girl: She never really kills many enemies without her friends watching her back. When Maggie and Carol escape, she's the first one easily dispatched by them without even putting up a fight.
  • Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: She chain-smokes so much that she coughs up blood at one point and has no qualms about smoking in the presence of a pregnant woman.
  • Handicapped Badass: Despite having a crippling lung condition that even she admits she's dying from, it doesn't stop her from being able to kill walkers.
  • Hollywood Atheist: She has a rather low opinion of religious people.
  • Incurable Cough of Death: Thanks to her smoking habits.
  • Large Ham: Very over the top and memorable.
  • Never Mess with Granny: She takes down walkers with ease.
  • The Nicknamer: Calls Carol "little bird" and Maggie "Magnolia."
  • Pet the Dog: Offers Carol a cigarette to calm her down, and is overall friendly to her and Maggie despite them being on opposite sides. It's only once the two rebel and causes her to become infected that she wants them dead, which doesn't last long given that Maggie kills her.
  • Self-Deprecation: Much like Dale several seasons before, she admits that she likely won't last that long in the apocalypse given her age, as well as her condition.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: She ends up getting her head beaten to a pulp by Maggie.
  • Villainous Breakdown: She loses it after a reanimated Donnie bites her arm.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Killed in her first appearance.
  • Zombie Infectee: Gets bitten by the zombified Donnie before being beaten to death by Maggie.

    Michelle

"Don't draw this out, bitch."

Portrayed By: Jeananne Goossen

  • Boom, Headshot!: Courtesy of Carol.
  • Canon Foreigner: Never appeared in the comics.
  • Dark Action Girl: She's a female Savior footsoldier.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: She has a tattoo of her deceased father Frank's name.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Tells Molly to stop smoking around the pregnant Maggie, and overall seems to want to keep the baby safe until Maggie and Carol rebel.
  • Evil Counterpart: She's this to Maggie, right down to being a brunette woman whose name starts with the letter "M." Both had significant relationships with their fathers, who died during the zombie apocalypse. However, Maggie's relationship with her husband Glenn is very close and loving, while Michelle says her boyfriend was an asshole. Maggie's pregnancy is going fine at the time, while Michelle had a miscarriage.
  • Fingore: One of her pinky fingers was severed for stealing gas.
  • Friends with Benefits: She was in a mostly sexual relationship with one of the bikers who were blown up by Daryl.
  • Ice Queen: Has a cold and unimpressed demeanor.
  • Jerkass: Treats Maggie and Carol pretty badly.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When she slashes at Maggie's womb, she pauses long enough for Carol to get the drop on her.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite her treatment of the hostages, she briefly opens up to Maggie and acts like a real human being.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: She's killed in her first appearance.

  • The Medic: Has some medical skills.
  • Red Herring: After killing Primo, Rick believes that he actually killed Negan, and that the Saviors are history.
  • Too Dumb to Live: After Rick's group finish up annihilating the Saviors' outpost, Primo decides to ride out on a motorcycle to escape them instead of waiting patiently for the group to leave without noticing him. This is what gets him captured.
  • Undying Loyalty: Sacrifices his own life to protect Negan and the rest of the Saviors.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Killed in his second appearance.

    Wade

Wade

Portrayed By: Darin Cooper

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 6)

"You're gonna return what you took."

A Savior lieutenant who led the search for Dwight.

  • Canon Foreigner: Never appeared in the comics.
  • Deadpan Snarker: When Cam starts screaming in pain after getting his arm amputated, Wade's response is to flatly tell him to "walk it off."
  • The Faceless: Not literally, but his face isn't shown in his first appearance.
  • The Medic: He has enough medical knowledge to cleanly amputate an infected arm.
  • Middle-Management Mook: Seems to be a high-ranking member of the Saviors as he leads the hunt for Dwight, Sherry, and Tina.
  • Pet the Dog: After he rescues Cam from a zombie infection, he calls off the search for Dwight's group in order to bring him back for medical treatment.
  • The Stoic: Remains creepily calm even after amputating his friend's bitten arm.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: We don't know if he's among the Saviors that have been killed during the attacks on the Satelite Outpost. His name hasn't been mentioned since his first appearance.

  • Zombie Infectee: Briefly, though Wade manages to chop off the bitten arm quickly.

Played By: Brian Stapf

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 7)

A Savior who is a member of Simon's crew in the repopulated satellite outpost.

  • Asshole Victim: Killed by a zombified Sasha and no one is crying.
  • Beard of Evil: He has a beard and is a petty jerk.

  • Facial Horror: Gets his face eaten off by a reanimated Sasha.
  • Failed a Spot Check: He doesn't see Daryl and Maggie hiding out.
  • Grammar Nazi: Upbraids Enid for abbreviating "vegetables" to "veggies."
  • Jerkass: He's a complete asshole to Enid for no reason, taunting her even when she gives him supplies and throwing vegetables on the ground.
  • Mook Promotion: He first appears as a background Savior at the Sanctuary in "The Cell." He becomes more prominent when he transfers to the repopulated Satellite Outpost.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Saves Negan from being eaten by an undead Sasha, only to then fall over and be devoured by her himself.

    George

George

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/season_seven_george1.png
"Maybe it takes it down. Takes them out."

Played By: Brian F. Durkin

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 7)

"Nothing fancy. Guerrilla kind of stuff... As in warfare, idiot."

A Savior who is a member of Simon's crew in the repopulated satellite outpost.

  • Failed a Spot Check: Fails to notice a teenage boy with an assault rifle hiding in the back of the truck.
  • The Klutz: Jesus saws open a box, causing him to shatter the entire case of Gregory's scotch that Simon intended as a gift for Negan.
  • Mook: Just a lowly Savior footsoldier and truck driver.
  • Multiple Gunshot Death: Carl unloads five rounds into him.
  • Oh, Crap!: Has a moment of this right before Carl shoots him in the chest.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: He gets the teensiest bit of characterization during the scene in which he has a conversation with a Savior from the Sanctuary. He hints at a knowledge of military tactics, sympathy for Fat Joey, and some hope that the walkers will eventually get wiped out. He and his comrade get shot dead shortly afterwards.

    Dean

Dean

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/season_eight_dean.png

Portrayed By: Adam Fristoe

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 8)

"Aw, hell, look that. Well, that shit is ruined. Well, looks like that dumb bitch Maggie and her kid are just gonna die, anyway. Just like you two."

A Savior in the repopulated satellite outpost. During the allies' attack, he feigns to be an enslaved worker to avoid getting killed.

  • And Then John Was a Zombie: After being shot by Maggie he is delivered to the Sanctuary as a warning that Hilltop has taken several Saviors hostage. He reanimates in the box he is contained in and killed by Negan with a nail gun.
  • Asshole Victim: Executed by Maggie in retribution for his attempted murder of Jesus and Tara and Simon's murder of Neil. Only Jesus seems torn up about his death due to his Thou Shalt Not Kill mantra, and Maggie is only seen breaking down afterwards due to the horrors of the night she just had (which was reminiscent of the night she lost Glenn).
  • Evil Is Petty: After taking Jesus hostage, he ruins a bottle of prenatal meds Maggie needs just to Kick the Dog.
  • Karmic Death: After insulting Maggie and smashing a bottle of her medicine, he is executed by Maggie herself for the death of Neil.
  • Make an Example of Them: Maggie ruthlessly executes him in front of the other Savior hostages as retribution for Simon's murder of Neil, proving to them once and for all that unlike Gregory she is not one to be fucked with.
  • Tempting Fate: He insists that Maggie is merely "putting on a show", even as she holds him at gunpoint. She isn't.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: He feigns to be a worker whose family is held in the Sanctuary to avoid getting killed. He even pees himself to sell the lie. Jesus believes him and keeps Tara from killing him.

Portrayed By: Lane Miller

"We could've... We could've lived after. After this..."

A Savior in the repopulated satellite outpost.

  • Boom, Headshot!: Rick caps him in the head mid-sentence.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: Rick kills him shortly after he made it clear he truly wanted to join the AHK alliances and defect from the Saviors completely.
  • In the Back: After releasing Rick and Morgan and joining them to fend off a massive group of walkers, he gets a hatchet in the back and is later put down by Rick as he lays dying.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal/Heel–Face Turn: Unlike Jared, Reilly doesn't want to return to the Sanctuary due to Simon abandoning the Savior hostages to their fate. He accepts Rick's offer to be allowed to defect to the Hilltop, unaware that Rick is lying.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Reilly's first and only appearance was in "Still Gotta Mean Something". He, along with the other credited Saviors in this episode, was not credited nor did he appear in any other Season 8 episode featuring Alden and the other Savior hostages.
  • Token Good Teammate: He's one of the Saviors Alden argues is a good person that got dealt a bad hand, and pleads with Rick to be spared.

    Evan

Evan

  • Eaten Alive: He's eaten by walkers, who start with non-lethal bites.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal/Heel–Face Turn: Unlike Jared, Evan is dubious in returning to the Sanctuary due to Simon abandoning the Savior hostages to their fate. He accepts Rick's offer to be allowed to defect to the Hilltop, ignoring Rick is lying.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Evan's first and only appearance was in "Still Gotta Mean Something".

Chemical Plant Outpost

    In General
  • Hero Killer: They wipe out the entire Kingdom militia with the exception of Ezekiel, Carol, and Jerry.

    Gavin

    Jared

Jared

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jared.jpg

Portrayed By: Joshua Mikel

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 7-8)

A member of Gavin's team. He does nothing but antagonize the Kingdom during their tribute pick-ups, with Gavin turning a blind eye to it. He goes too far when he kills Benjamin to punish the Kingdom for coming up short on a tribute, enraging Gavin. He's later transferred to the satellite outpost, and is taken as a prisoner of war at Hilltop. Jared’s smug, unpleasant demeanor doesn’t wane in the slightest throughout his incarceration. When Henry accidentally frees the Saviors, he leads a crew out of Hilltop, intending to rejoin the Sanctuary. However, Jared finally meets his end at Morgan’s hands during a subsequent confrontation.

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: When Morgan traps him in a room full of walkers and grabs his shirt to keep him from escaping, he's left fearfully begging Morgan to let go of him. Morgan obliges only after the walkers are well into the process of eating him alive.
  • Animal Motifs: A rat, which is fitting given his greasy hair, his slimy demeanor, and nasty attitude. Benjamin even lampshades it at one point, muttering "rat-faced prick" under his breath when Jared starts acting up.
  • Arch-Enemy: He intentionally makes Richard from the Kingdom this. After Richard's death, Morgan takes his place.
  • Asshole Victim: If any of the Saviors truly deserved to die screaming in agony, it was the particularly sadistic, cruel, depraved and compassionless scumbag known as Jared. Fittingly, he does.
  • Ax-Crazy: Very depraved, sadistic and willing to instigate trouble for his own enjoyment.
  • Barbarian Longhair: His hair is long and greasy.
  • Beard of Evil: Has a long beard and loves to torment others.
  • The Bully: Probably the worst one among the Saviors, and he's not short of competition. He takes delight in physically and mentally abusing the people of the Kingdom and takes a special interest in making Richard's life miserable, victimizing him at every opportunity.
  • Bullying a Dragon: He picks fights with Richard and Morgan, two men who can easily kick his ass. Antagonizing Morgan one too many times eventually leads to his death.
  • Canon Foreigner: Never appeared in the comics.
  • Character Death: Morgan holds him against a gate and has him devoured by walkers in "Still Gotta Mean Something".
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Fitting as his death may have been, getting devoured by walkers while being held against a gate unable to escape or fight back isn't exactly a fun way to go out.
  • Dead Person Conversation: In "Wrath", he appears to Morgan in a hallucination with the wounds that killed him, still mocking him even in death.
  • Devoured by the Horde: Morgan traps him on the other side of a gate and leaves him to be eaten by a group of walkers.
  • Dirty Coward: Loves bullying and tormenting people when they have no chance to fight back. He loves to provoke and antagonize people, but quickly switches gears when someone threatens to kill him. He's also a sobbing, begging wreck of his former self when Morgan traps him in a cage with a group of walkers.
  • Dumb Muscle: Gavin outright calls him a total idiot, but only has him around to act as a heavy hitter.
  • Eaten Alive: Morgan ensures that his death is slow and painful.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Benjamin. Both are young soldiers working for their groups while trying to work their way up the ranks, but unlike Benjamin, Jared is always screwing up, defying his orders, and earns scorn from his leader while Benjamin has worked hard to become a legitimate fighter and is adored by his group members.
  • Evil Is Petty: He needlessly picks fights and instigates conflict simply because he can.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Becomes this way towards Morgan after he and his fellow Saviors surrender to Jesus and his militia, rather than being an outright Jerkass like previously.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Absolutely none of the Saviors, or even his supervisor Gavin, like being around him since he's always an unpleasant company.
  • Hate Sink: Of all the Savior foot soldiers we meet, Jared is, with the possible exception of "Rapey Davey" the most despicable and evil one and makes it abundantly clear in every scene he appears in what an irredeemable bastard he is.
  • I Will Punish Your Friend for Your Failure: In standard Savior fashion, he quickly realizes that Richard is completely fine with being killed, and so shoots Ben instead for the Kingdom being short on their tribute.
  • Jerkass: An arrogant, violent jackass who shows no redeeming qualities.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Jared is quick to realize that Rick and Morgan are out for blood when they come looking for the escaped Hilltop Saviors. He advises his cohorts to just kill the pair and call it a day, and their refusal to do so ends up getting them all killed.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: It took over an entire next season for Jared to get any sort of punishment for killing Benjamin. He does fortunately get it in time, and pretty good too.
  • Karmic Death: He's left to his fate by Morgan, the man he repeatedly antagonized and whose protege he murdered in cold blood.
  • Kick the Dog: Even though he could have easily given back his weapon, Jared takes Morgan's staff out of spite even after Morgan straight out apologizes to him. He also kills Benjamin despite being ordered to kill Richard.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: At first, he averts this trope - he's an unrepentant dick to Morgan even after being captured, taunting him for wearing Benjamin's armor, and gets off scot-free due to Jesus's intervention. Later, the trope is (fortunately) played straight with Maggie, who doesn't put up with his shit and is all-too-willing to butt him into unconsciousness with her rifle when he starts fucking around. Morgan later one-ups it by brutally killing him personally.
  • Loves the Sound of Screaming: When the Hilltop is overrun by walkers, Jared openly admits that the sound of people screaming is "music" to his ears. Fittingly, he dies in the next episode screaming in agony.
  • The Millstone: The only thing he seems to do for the Saviors is nearly screw up their stable relations trading with the Kingdom since he feels the need to screw with others.
  • Mook: Just a lowly Savior footsoldier.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Ezekiel originally turned down Rick's offer of an alliance between the Kingdom and Alexandria against Negan and the Saviors to avoid unnecessary deaths among his people. After Jared kills Ben, Ezekiel has a change of heart and leads a contingent of Kingdom fighters to Alexandria's aid in the season seven finale.
  • Oh, Crap!: His smug attitude and psychotic joy finally goes out the window when Morgan knocks him into a room full of walkers and closes the gate door while holding him against it to keep him from running, and Jared spends his last moments pleading for him to let go of him.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Really gives Negan a run for his money in this department since he immaturely loves to bully others and horse around, even when on the clock.
  • Reassigned to Antarctica: Gets transferred to the newly restaffed satellite outpost likely due to Gavin having grown sick of his jerkassery.
  • Sadist: Jared is one of only three Savior foot soldiers (the other two being David and Gunther) who seems to truly enjoy the pain and suffering of others. As mentioned above in the Loves the Sound of Screaming trope, he even describes the sound of people screaming in agony as "music to my ears."
  • Smug Snake: Taunts Richard because he knows the man can't do anything about it, and also repeatedly taunts and insults Morgan. The latter repeated action, as well as his murder of Benjamin, is what eventually gets him killed.
  • Stupid Evil: Even Gavin calls him an idiot.
  • Troll: Pretty much everything he does is intended to aggravate others.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Even though his life has been spared thanks to Jesus's insistence, he's constantly aggravating and insulting his captors, and rejects the food offered to him.
  • Villain Has a Point: When Rick and Morgan are captured by Jared and the other Saviors who managed to escape from the Hilltop, he is the first and only one to see through Rick's lie when he claims that they can come back with him and treat the injured Saviors. The same can't be said about his comrades...
  • Would Hurt a Child: He shoots and kills Benjamin, who was in his late teens.

"I'm Negan."

Portrayed By: Whitmer Thomas

Appearances: The Walking Dead (Season 8)

A Savior who attempts to kill Ezekiel.

  • Ambition Is Evil: He strives to move up into Negan's inner circle by taking Ezekiel hostage, thinking that he'll gain respect from his leader. All he gains is a gory death courtesy of Jerry.
  • Asshole Victim: Considering that he coldly mocks Ezekiel for failing an attack and leading his soldiers to their death with a smug grin on his face and even shooting one soldier dead right in front of him, absolutely nobody was sad to see him brutally murdered.
  • Ax-Crazy: A vicious and sinister murderer who takes pleasure in torturing victims emotionally and psychologically.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: He thinks that he's a threat capable enough of being a leader among the Saviors, but really he's just a lowly foot soldier.
  • Expy: He looks like a younger version of the comic-only character Thomas Richards, sharing quite a lot of his sadism and delusions as well.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: He wears glasses and is definitely one of the cruelest Saviors shown. Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick even referred to him as "creepy".
  • Gorn: His death by getting sliced in half by a battle ax is one of the goriest deaths in the series.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Jerry straight up bisects him with a giant axe.
  • Hate Sink: It's impossible to think he was written to be anything else except this. Even his actor, Whitmer Thomas, hoped for viewers to hate his character by the time he died.
  • It's All About Me: His sole motivation is to move up in the Savior ranks.
  • Kick the Dog: Coldly tells Ezekiel that he got his people killed by lying to them about being a king and dragging them out into the war. Later, once Ezekiel falls and is too weak to get back up, he stomps on his already injured leg.
  • Lack of Empathy: He mocks Ezekiel for losing so many of his men in the war and even dismisses his own battalion just to hold Ezekiel as a prize.
  • Mook: He's just a low-ranking foot-soldier in the Saviors, but he seeks to move up on the hierarchy.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: He seems to be based on infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, being a creepy, bespectacled, dirty-blonde-haired weirdo with psychopathic tendencies. Many YouTube commenters love pointing this out.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: Takes advantage of Ezekiel's moment of weakness to take him hostage and abandons his fellow soldiers to take the king to Negan as a prize personally.
  • Psychotic Smirk: He's always seen grinning with a creepy sneer on his face.
  • Sadist: Gunther is one of only three Savior foot soldiers (the other two being David and Jared) who seems to truly enjoy the pain and suffering of others.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: See Big Bad Wannabe right above.
  • Smug Snake: Most of his lines are about how Ezekiel is a failure while he's a smarter threat.
  • The Sociopath: He seems to dismiss the fact that many of his Savior cohorts are dead or in conflict in favor of taking Ezekiel as a prize to prove himself to Negan.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: He's killed by Jerry in his first appearance.

  • Mook: He's just a low-ranking foot-soldier serving under Yago.
  • One-Steve Limit: A subverted In-Universe example with another Savior called "Fat" Joey. After the latter dies, he simply becomes Joey.
Negan: Without Fat Joey....Skinny Joey is just...Joey.
  • Shoot the Hostage: He's on the receiving end of this, courtesy of Yago.
