Rain and Friends

    Falling Rain
Originally named Rayne, a modern man reincarnated into the body of an unnamed 12 year old slave. Coming to be known as Falling Rain, he needs to learn to quickly adapt to the dangerous and mystical world around him.
  • The Ace: He is seen as this not only due to his skills as a Martial Warrior, but also for his ability to lead, and knowledge of various subjects such as math and herbology.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Rain sometimes doesn't realize how amazing some of his feats really are to others because he keeps comparing himself to his family, friends, or rivals, whom he always seems to think are significantly more impressive.
  • All-Loving Hero: Rain loves his friends and family, and tries to help out those less fortunate than himself at every turn.
  • The Anti-Nihilist: This is his viewpoint for most of the story. In his own words in chapter 375:
“Go back to normal? Misery and despair is normal, at least for people like me. Maybe you’ve forgotten, being a peak Martial Expert and all, but we live in a world filled with pain and suffering. That hopeless resignation you’re feeling? It’s always been there, a dagger hanging above your head or a noose around your neck, and today, you were merely reminded of its existence. There’s no shaking it off, you find a level of despair you can tolerate and call that happiness, because that’s as good as it gets.” Shrugging, I add, “Soldier on or give up, simple as that.”
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He isn't kind or merciful to his enemies, especially defiled and slavers.
  • Broken Ace: Rain has progressed so far on the Martial Path so fast that it is unheard of for those who know his history. He also has a loving family, good friends, loyal subordinates and multiple women he loves who also love him back. Despite all of this, he has a deep-seated sadness and self-loathing that has always followed him and will seemingly never go away.
  • Chick Magnet: Has no less than three women betrothed or expecting to marry him.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Rain is infamous for his "appreciation of women", but he always sees them as people, not objects, even if they are slaves.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Rain can't seem to keep himself out of trouble when others are being hurt.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Many people have called him a fool, mainly because of his eccentric actions. Put him in a battle field however, and he'll kill or severely injure his opponents with little mercy.
  • Crystal Dragon Jesus: To those who call him "The Mother's Chosen Son".
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Rain is often distracted by beautiful women, much to embarrassment and chagrin of his family, and especially his fiancés.
  • Emotion Bomb: Rain has the ability to project his aura into a variety of emotions including love and affection.
  • A Father to His Men: Rain cares deeply for all those under his command.
  • Fearless Fool: This is how he looks like to others. Although he whines and complains a lot before fighting, once the battle starts, he charges forward with no hesitation and with a smile on his face.
  • Fish out of Water: Rain's ideals from his previous life clash with the less caring world he finds himself in.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: He goes from a slave that is already near death, to a fierce warrior that is both respected and feared, to the Legate.
  • Good Thing You Can Heal: Rain will even reattach his limbs in the middle of a fight, gaining him the title of "The Undying Savage".
  • Guile Hero: Rain is known by his friends and family for taking unorthodox methods to achieve victory or reach a goal.
  • Guilt Complex: When things go wrong, Rain always feels it's because he didn't do more, even when others point out that he either couldn't have done anything, or nothing he could've done would've made a significant difference.
  • The Heart: Rain is quite easily one of the most idealistic and moral people in the story, desiring to do good for others whenever possible, even if it would lead to a detriment to himself. This inspires others to act more altruistically than they would otherwise.
  • I Should Have Been Better: Rain constantly feels like he should be better than he already is, or done more than he already has, since he's a transmigrator, and that's what happens in stories involving transmigration. It gets mistaken as arrogance by some characters.
  • It Only Works Once: In Chapter 738, after he gets his Core shattered and Spiritual Weapons destroyed a second time, Rain demonstrates why that is useless by immediately restoring them using Heavenly Energy.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: Averted much to his chagrin, Rain aspires to be this wanting to manipulate Chi from afar to destroy his enemies.
  • Living MacGuffin: As the host of Blobby, he can purify defiled and demons alike.
  • Magnetic Hero: Everyone he takes into his retinue chooses to put faith in him, double so for his variety of pets that he attracts.
  • Making a Splash: Rain Awakened the Blessing of water. At first, he was only capable of making some harmless drops appear on his weapon or creating a bowl's worth of water in his mouth. After learning more on how to use it thanks to Blobby and Pong Pong, he is able to manipulate the water in the Azure Sea and Manifest his Natal Sea and use it in combat.
  • Mistaken for Gay: How Dastan views Rain after a series of misconceptions.
  • Mutual Envy: He has this with several of his friends.
  • Naïve Newcomer: Starts as this and still has shades as the world unfolds around him, particularly in etiquette.
  • Oxymoronic Being: It has been noted that Rain is this in a lot of ways: he loves to fight, but says he prefers peace and seems happier when there is no need for bloodshed; he always says pessimistic things, but is an idealist who tries to do what's right whenever possible; he says he's a Dirty Coward, but is always on the forefront of a battle, especially when he's protecting someone else.
  • The Paragon: He desires for people to gain knowledge, so that they take what the have learned and pass it on to the next generation, who will build up on that knowledge and pass it on themselves and so on.
  • Rags to Riches: He goes from a slave that has nothing, to a member of the Bekhai, to an Imperial.
  • Red Baron: Rain has several titles, including: The Undying Savage, The Mother's Chosen Son, and Protector and Attendant of the Divine Guardian Turtle. To the Defiled, he is known as the Devourer, for his ability to absorb Spectres into himself.
  • Slasher Smile: Rain is infamous for having a malicious grin that unnerves viewers while in combat. He himself is unaware that he does this.
  • Small Steps Hero: Rain wants to help people he can reach, even if it seems futile in the grand scheme of things.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Rain is often seen as a savage that can easily be outwitted. Those who know him are aware that he is actually quite intelligent, if somewhat naïve and ignorant, and know that he is just as good a planner as he is a warrior.
  • Supreme Chef: He learned cooking from his brother, and has proven to also be a very good cook.
  • Too Broken to Break: It's eventually revealed that Rain's ability to move and fight even when being affected by another being's Aura is due to the fact that he's already felt worse before as a slave, as well as the fact that his normal mental state is already pretty bleak to begin with.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Has had a few, but most notably when Blobby taught him how to shred opposing Auras with his own.
  • Unreliable Narrator: He is the main viewpoint in the story. Because of his misunderstanding of things, we only see a more unbiased view of what he does through other POVs.

  • Single-Target Sexuality: Mei Lin has eyes only for her precious Rainy. She has never shown any romantic or sexual interest in any other person.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Zig-zagged. She has been spoiled by both her father and Rain, and is prone to whining when they aren't around. However, she is not naïve and her first solution to something bothering them is to kill them, so long as doing so won't have any repercussions.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: After it's revealed that she's an Ancestral Beast, we learn that she's so young that she doesn't know how to consciously access most of her strength, and the amount she is able to muster is completely lacking in skill.

  • Unskilled, but Strong: Sumila has much more physical power than other people her age. This lets her steamroll opponents using brute force, but has also resulted in her technique suffering from lack of use.
