Caryatid National Knight Academy - Magic Division

Kazuki Hayashizaki

Abandoned and left at an orphanage as an infant, Kazuki was adopted into the prestigious Hayashizaki family for his talent in swordsmanship. Expecting to enroll in the Caryatid National Knight Academy's Sword Division, live his life as a swordsman, and bring honor to the Hayashizaki style of swordsmanship, he is deterred from his goal when he finds he has been granted an Enigma, a mark that signifies being chosen by a Diva despite being male. Upon completing the ceremony to officially form a contract with a Diva he finds himself contracted to Lemegeton, the Lesser Key of Solomon and the leader of the Ars Goetia. Lemegeton states to him that she intends to make him a Harem King, tasks him to build a harem, with the summoners of the Ars Goetia at minimum, to increase his power and influence to become King and unite the fragmented Japan. Failure to complete this task will result in Ars Goetia giving up and leaving Japan, resulting in a complete loss of military power and global influence, leaving them defenseless to external threats.

Due to his training under the Hayashizaki family, Kazuki is an immensely skilled Master Swordsman, capable of predicting his opponent’s movements and countering them with ease. Under his contract with Lemegeton, he is able to use the spells of any girl he has raised a sufficient positivity level with, giving him the potential to wield a large variety of magic well outside the normal range of ten spells a regular summoner can use.

• 11th-Hour Superpower:
  • The other ability to his King’s Authority: Power of Bonds (Conquest) is that through a Sacred First Kiss between him and a summoning magician he’ll be able to use all of their magic up to level 10 temporarily without having to build their positivity levels beforehand. The drawback is that he can only use this ability once per magician.
  • In the final volume, he receives power from Divas despite not having their contractors in his harem and he can use the level 10 spells of those Divas.
• Above the Influence: Once he begins to gain the affections and raise the positivity levels of various girls he finds himself having to restrict his desires to go any further than necessary with any of them for fear of losing self-control and sleeping with them, which would lead to an unfortunate accident because of the use of contraceptives being nullified by magic power. A fact that isn't helped that as the story progresses various girls gradually lose their inhibitions and become more sexual in their seductions in their private time. On a more serious note, Kazuki is consistently accused of and faced with the idea of utilizing his magic to manipulate the numerous girls that fall in love with him for power or his own purposes, to which he always disproves with his actions.
• All Up to You: In Volume 14, he faces off against Lucifer alone to win Ragnarok and stop his plans for good.
• All Your Powers Combined: If Kazuki raises another summoner’s positivity levels high enough he can use their diva spells. In addition, Kazuki can combine different Diva's spells for unique and powerful results.
• Awesome by Analysis: the fundamental technique of the Hayashizaki style is observation so you only have to see someone else's technique once to beat it.
• Back from the Dead: He is killed by Lucifer's unblockable Apocalypse spell, but is brought back to life thanks to Phenex's Revival spell.
• Badass Adorable: He's a good-tempered and kind-hearted young man who cares about everyone and is an unstoppable sentinel of justice against the forces of evil.
• Bare-Fisted Monk: Kazuki's mastery of the sword only underlies his equally formidable specialty in martial arts. This skill is especially inherent in Volumes 3 and 4 where he was banned from using his sword in lieu of his magic and unarmed combat and still manages to fight evenly with an armed Kanae and both Karin Katsura and Shizuka Hayashi simultaneously.
• Bathtub Bonding: In Volume 12, on the way to Atlantis, via the cruise ship, The Queen Kaguya, the girls that are his Battle Harem refuse to let him bathe alone. By this point, their intentions are hardly innocent.
• Babies Ever After: At the end of the series, He impregnates Mio and Kaguya.
• Battle Harem: Invoked. Kazuki is supposed to gather the (all female) summoners of the Ars Goetia (and optionally others) under his banner to fight an unknown threat and to keep the Ars Goetia allied with Japan.
• Beware the Nice Ones: Kazuki is a decent fellow most of the time. But if you ever cross him, he will be prepared to challenge you to a fight.
• Big Good: He eventually succeeds Kaguya Otonashi as Caryatid's Student Council President in Volume 5 and holds this position until the Grand Finale.
• Big Little Brother: He counts as one to Kanae, to the point where he and his family initially thought he was the older sibling.
• Blessed with Suck: Picture this. A beautiful goddess manifests in front of you, in public, naked, kisses you on the lips, calls you her king, and tasks you with building a harem of beautiful women who routinely wear clothes leaving little to the imagination, some of whom don't see anything wrong with being naked in front of you. In addition, she provides you with a magical artifact to help you figure out how to make them happy, and provides very practical advice to help them fall madly in love with you, while having no problem sharing. Sounds awesome, right? Here's the price. Just about everyone in the world with any kind of authority sees you as a mortal threat, as a direct result, and is constantly scheming to manipulate, exploit, or execute you, and if those people can't get to you directly, they have no problems going through the women you're romancing to get at you. You are almost constantly finding yourself in battle where you have to watch those girls get hurt, maybe watch them die. And the reason this beautiful goddess wanted you to build a harem? That harem is going to be your army to deal with some nebulous threat so terrible, the goddess specifically threw away her memories of it so she can't tell you, and have you running away screaming. Oh, and no matter how much those girls want to have sex with you, or how much you want to take them up on it, you Can't Have Sex, Ever because the pregnancy rate with a summoner is 100% and contraception is completely ineffective.
• Book Dumb: More like "Book Average".In Volume 7, Kazuki mentions that his academic skills are fairly average. Despite that, he proves to be a good strategist during the election tournament and during the war against Yamato.
• Character Development: He slowly becomes more accustomed to his harem situation, becoming more comfortable around the girls and more willing to initiate intimacy on his own (and purely for the sake of being intimate) rather than be lead along by Leme.
• Chivalrous Pervert: As Above the Influence as he is, he is still a growing fifteen year old teenager. He isn’t completely immune to any of the girls’s advances and regular comments on their seductive bodies when he gets the opportunity. As early as Volume 1 he hints to having a Meido fetish and doesn’t completely deny wanting to be part of the Ryuutaki sisters’s “sister sandwich”.
• Combined Energy Attack: The Power of Harmony, which he acquires as King of Japanese Mythology, allows him to gather and redistribute magical energy among his Battle Harem, allowing them to cast their higher-level spells. It also allows him to take it all into himself, and Itsuki explicitly compares this power to the Spirit Bomb.
• Conveniently an Orphan: If his memories can be believed, his mother Hibiki abandoned him at an orphanage.
• Cool Sword:
  • Dofou (Wind-Lit Path), Kazuki's nigh-unbreakable sword which was crafted with an alchemy technique that became a lost art in the current setting. Broken in battle with Ilyailiya.
  • Raikiri (Lightning Cutter), a Sacred Treasure that can resist and cut down lightning attacks.
  • The Ame-no-Murakamo, one of the three Sacred Treasures proving kingship of Japanese Mythology, which has various abilities.
  • Joyeux of love, was given to him by Lancelot just before she dies.
• Curb-Stomp Battle:
  • Kazuki curb-stomps Mio after the latter insults the Hayashizaki's style of swordsmanship in volume 1. Towards the end of the volume, he also easily beats Loki when Mio does her Heroic Sacrifice.
  • Thanks to a combination of 11th-Hour Superpower and Kasane, he manages to defeat Basileus aka Lucifer fairly easily.
• Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: His mother had to leave him at an orphanage because Loki and his contractor kept targeting her loved ones.
• Death Wail: His scream after witnessing Mio's Heroic Sacrifice at the end of Volume 1 is of anguish.
• Deliberate Injury Gambit:
  • During his duel with Ikousai in Volume 9, Kazuki turns off his defensive magic and bleeds on her Mizukagami no Tate mirror to disable its powers.
  • Similarly, he turns off his defensive magic when faced with Lucifer's unblockable Apocalypse spell, which disintegrates him. However, Phenex's Revival spell kicks in and brings him back to life.
• Depowered: Had his Ars Goetia kinship temporarily sealed by Jeremy on Clark's behest, making him lose his ability to use his Battle Harem's magic. Clark hadn't counted on Kazuki being simultaneously king of the Ars Goetia and Japanese Mythology, however, and he still retained the capability to gather and redistribute his harem's magical energy - or take it all into himself.
• The Dog Bites Back: He challenges Mio to a duel after she insults the Hayashizaki swordsmanship to his face.
• Doorstop Baby: He has memories of being one.
• Doting Parent: To Stella. He will do anything to make her happy. Including some things he shouldn't (like letting her gamble in a casino.)
• Dual Wielding: After Lancelot gives him Joyeux, he wields it alongside Ame-no-Murakumo via an improvised dual wielding style. This gets a Decon-Recon Switch because he's not as proficient in dual-wielding compared to using both hands, though he manages to master this style quickly in the heat of battle.
• Empowered Badass Normal: He begins the story as a Master Swordsman with skill better than that of his elder sister, who’s the strongest swordsman of the Sword Division, and such a proficient skill in Hayashizaki style Foresight that he can predict and counter magic spells after being casted in addition with only knowledge of the basic Status Buff spells that swordsman can normally use. Then he creates a contract with Lemegeton...
• The Exile: He goes into self-imposed exile for most of volume 3 due to his Frame-Up.
• Experienced Protagonist: By the beginning of the series, he is an expert at sword combat.
• Fragile Speedster: Mastery of the Hayashizaki style swordsmanship grants Kazuki a high degree of Foresight that, combined with his high agility, allow him to dodge and counter the most attacks directed at him. But he lacks proficiency in Resist and doesn’t have many means of defensive magic so once his defenses get breached he’ll often go down in a few powerful blows.
• Frame-Up: At the end of Volume 2, Kazuki is framed for attacking a knight and stealing a Sacred Treasure along with being accused of contracting with an illegal Diva outside of the Ars Goetia and being taken control by it. He is forced into hiding for the majority of Volume 3 until he can clear his name. However, it turns out that the accusations are from Headmaster Tsukikuro Otonashi, who seeks to transplant his Stigma and contract with Lemegeton to Kaguya to become the artificial King of Solomon under his control.
• From Zero to Hero: Downplayed considering he's an Experienced Protagonist. He goes from a respected swordsman to a powerful King of Japan.
• Gonk: He can use Enchant Aura to change his facial structure to look like Anpanman.
• Happily Adopted: By the Hayashizaki family for his physical talents. Despite the harsh training imposed onto him that made him a powerful swordsman, Kazuki notes he is grateful for being adopted into the family and that his adopted father loved him as much as he did his own child.
• Heroes Prefer Swords: Due to him having grown up with the Hayashizaki family in the Iaijutsu swordsmanship, he uses a sword as his weapon.
• Heroic Sacrifice: Kazuki dies while facing Lucifer's Apocalypse spell. However, it's subverted when he gets brought back to live due to Phenex's revival spell.
• Heroic Self-Deprecation: His primary reason why he's initially resistant to Leme's Harem Seeker tendencies is that because his mother abandoned him at an orphanage at such a young age he doesn’t feel he’s worthy of being loved.
• Honor Before Reason: In volume 2, he has a golden opportunity to seal Loki and capture Kaya alive. He doesn't take it because Kaya was a "comrade" at the time. Kaya laughs at him for it, but her PL increases, and she gives him a hint as to the key to defeating Beatrix as a reward.
• Iaijutsu Practitioner: Fast enough that his slashes take fractions of a millisecond to land.
• Insistent Terminology: Lampshaded by Miyabi when he claims his body is "pure" rather than admit to being a virgin.
• Lightning Bruiser: Several of the spells he gains from his harem (such as Beatrix, Hikaru, and Lotte) can be cast in succession to give him overwhelming power and speed.
• Magic Knight: More so than your average swordsman that possesses magic power, by his contract with Lemegeton Kazuki can supplement his already prodigious sword skill with a Diva’s magic for devastating results. He's not the only example in the series, but he has the most variety of spells to work with, including stackable physical enhancements.
• Magically Inept Fighter: At first, due to mainly practicing basic buff spells in favor of other spell types.
• Master Swordsman: A master of the Hayashizaki Iaijutsu swordsmanship at the young age of 15 and nearly slaughtered Loki with nothing but his sword and a little fire magic.
• Meaningful Name: Kazuki (一樹) means "one tree" in Japanese.
• Meido: His fetish. He also considers himself one when doing housework and cooking.
• Mentor Archetype: He trains both Hikaru and Kazuha to become better swordsmen at their own behest. For Hikaru, it is because she seeks to learn swordsmanship after seeing Kazuki’s skill at defeating Mio since as a Magic Division student, she too believed somewhere in her heart that summoning magic was superior to the sword. For Kazuha, she wished to become better to disprove her fellow Sword Division students's belief that she was hopeless in learning swordsmanship.
• Mentor Occupational Hazard: A subverted example occurs at the end of the series. After training Hikaru and Kazuha to become better swordsmen early on in the series, Kazuki dies in an effort to stop Lucifer, only to be revived a few minutes later.
• Missing Mom: His mother, Hibiki, abandoned him on the orphanage steps.
• Nice Guy: He is one of the nicest guys in the series. It allows him to have faith in his harem and his sister.
• Parental Abandonment: Hibiki abandoned him as a baby by placing him on the orphanage steps.
• Poor Communication Kills: His ring is supposed to help him avoid this with his harem, but this is still played straight concerning Kaya, who might not have contracted with Loki if they had stayed in touch.
• Power of Love:
  • As the contractor to Lemegeton, the chief god and leader of the Ars Goetia, Kazuki is granted the King's Authority: Power of Bonds (Conquest). This magic allows him to use all the powers of the girls he conquered with the help of the Ring of Solomon which is based on the strength of the bonds they share, not directly based on their romantic feelings towards him. While Kazuki points out that he can increase their positivity levels through friendship rather than romancing them, Lemegeton debases his argument by stating it’s harder to form friendships between the opposite sexes than it is to romance them. Liz Liza also states that while friendship and love are different things the relationship he has with the girls will become more intimate whether he initially planned on being just friends or not. He later accepts this fact by realizing that keeping the relationship at the level of friendship isn’t fair to any of the girls and instead resolves to make them as happy as he can.
  • Lemegeton’s earlier statement is later proven when Kazuki attempts to raise the positivity level towards Hikaru and realizes that her level cannot be raised any higher through a close friendship with which he changes his strategy and goes about building a romantic relationship with her.
• Power Perversion Potential: One of the sub-skills of his ability to track positivity is instant and clear feedback, in the form of a stream of tiny hearts, as to how effective his technique is during "intimate moments".
• Practical Taunt: While he's certainly a Nice Guy, he's willing to rile up his opponents to keep the battle in his favor.
• Pre-Climax Climax: In Volume 13, Kazuki finally has intercourse with Mio, Kaguya, Koyuki, Lotte, Hikaru, Kazuha and Kanae.
• Pretty Boy: He manages to strike a balance between being fairly muscular, yet handsome.
• Promoted to Parent: He more or less adopts a little girl, affectionately dubbed "Stella" that is rescued from a ghost ship Haunted Ground in Volume 10.
• Red Baron: Cyclops, due to his extremely proficient use in Foresight.
• Ring of Power: The Ring of Solomon, given to Kazuki by Lemegeton so he has an easier time romancing girls and gaining their powers. It has the ability to give a numerical value to how much a girl likes the wearer and shows whether a girl is warming up to or shying away from them by making a heart or skull symbol appear by the girl after any interaction. The more hearts that appear after an action shows the girl's affection rising while a skull appears from the opposite result.
• Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Kazuki undergoes one of these when Mio takes Loki's attack which was meant for him. He manages to inflict a serious injury on Loki before being put out of commission.
• Save the Villain: Played for laughs when he rescues Ikousai from the factions who are sore about their duel for kingship. He tries to pull her along by hand and then resorts to doing a princess carry, only for Ikousai to accuse him of sexual harassment.
• Sensor Character: It is revealed in Volume 3 that Kazuki can feel the presence of summoning magicians that possess a positivity level and generate a map through his Ring of Solomon that allows him to see their location. The higher the positivity level the more accurate he is able to sense them. The signal they emit weakens if they do not wish to be found and disappears if the person dies.
• Sex God: Instant feedback plus Awesome by Analysis plus zero Cool Down period before he is ready to go again equals really, really happy haremettes.
• Sheathe Your Sword: In his duel with Arthur, he only focuses on defense because he's too exhausted from fighting Ikousai and because convincing her to step down is the only way to prevent her from getting killed by her contract.
• Spam Attack: His Kasane technique slashes an enemy's barrier once to create a scar in it, and then instantly slash along that scar before it can recover. Sadly, it's too difficult to consistently pull off, especially against equally skilled martial artists. He uses it to defeat Lucifer in Volume 14 because the latter can No-Sell summon magic.
• Spell Blade: One of Ame-no-Murakamo's powers involve absorbing magic through enchantments, accentuating and enhancing the destructive capabilities. Moreover, these enchantments can stack allowing Kazuki's Battle Harem to support him through their multiple Elemental Powers.
• Student Council President: He becomes the first Chief Student Council President at Caryatid in volume 5.
• The Strategist: One of his strongest assets is his strategic thinking, coupled with his Foresight, allow Kazuki to plan strategies around his opponents’s thinking and abilities. When put in a team Kazuki always creates a strategy best fit for the scenario to obtain victory.
• Stronger Than They Look: Constantly. Everyone in the world, with the possible exception of Arthur from Britain and Clark Moore from North America thinks that this "mere teenager" can't possibly be worthy to be the King of the Ars Goetia. Of special note is Regina of Italia whom he was able to deadlock, until she decided to get serious because she had to admit that he's someone too strong to "play around against."
• Supreme Chef: In addition to being a powerful swordsman he is also known to be an excellent cook and his other means of increasing positivity levels, other than saving them from danger or helping them through their issues, is by feeding them his excellent cooking.
• Take Up My Sword: Hibiki, Kazuki's mother and the previous wielder of Ame-no-Murakamo and putative King of Japanese mythology, entrusts the sword and the claim to Kingship to him.
• Taking Up the Mantle: His upbringing and resulting strength of character led to Leme (formerly his mother's contracted Diva) choosing to contract with him, bestowing upon him the Kingship of the Ars Goetia (again, previously held by Hibiki).
• Tranquil Fury: While he's not mad that Clark outsmarted him in volume 11, when he learns that Clark brainwashed his most faithful followers to do it, and did so in a way that all but guarantees permanent neurological damage to their minds and bodies while laughing and boasting about it sends him into a murderous rage, but he remains perfectly calm in the process.
• Unconscious Objector: His swordsman training allows him to be in a near-constant state of battle readiness, whether he's awake or asleep. This doesn't allow him to easily notice non-hostile actions like being glomped from behind.
• Weak, but Skilled: His skill in swordsmanship, Foresight and multitude of spells at his disposal make him a terrifying opponent to face in combat but in comparison to his fellow summoning magicians Kazuki lags behind in magical ability. This is because his spell casting and overall power behind his spells are levels below the actual summoning magician he get copies it from due to the fact he doesn’t have a strong enough telepathic bond with the respective Diva whose magic he utilizes. In addition, he cannot use spells higher than a girl’s positivity level converts into, which leaves him with a minimum range of spells to use until he raises it. To compensate, Kazuki has to use his speed and swordsmanship to close the gap in ability with his opponents and become strategic in his spell casting to combine different spells to suit the need of the situation.
• Workaholic: He has such a strong work ethic that he simply cannot ignore household chores. If he's not ill, unconscious, or physically detained, he will make a bee-line for the kitchen, among other household chores, and considers being chased away "bullying." In fact, after fainting from over-training, the moment he wakes up, he has to be physically restrained to get enough rest, and he only relents because he saw Kaguya in a maid uniform. Downplayed in that he's okay with short breaks, especially if it means bonding with his haremettes, though he'll become anxious if his work-life balance is broken.

Mio Amasaki

A fellow first-year classmate of Kazuki and an A ranked student in the Caryatid National Knight Academy's Magic Division, Mio is a resident of the Witch’s House, a dormitory for the elite summoning magicians of the Academy. Her introduction in the story has her in odds with Kazuki, chiding him for being a swordsman despite being a member of the Magic Division. After provoking a duel with Kazuki by insulting the Hayashizaki swordsmanship to his face, she is handily delivered defeat at his hands and explains her previous attitude was Kazuki completely failed to recognize her and reveals she is his childhood friend from the Nanohana Institute, the orphanage where he grew up before being adopted by the Hayashizaki for his talent in swordsmanship whereas she was adopted for her talent in magic. After mending their relationship she quickly becomes the first to join his Battle Harem and her attraction to Kazuki translates into a high positivity level that grants several powerful abilities that serves as a great boon to Kazuki in the beginning of the story when he struggles to raise positivity levels of other girls.

Mio’s contracted Diva is Phenex, a member of the Ars Goetia who grants their user the power of fire and healing magic.

• The Ace: One of the first three people of her homeroom to form a contract and has enough aptitude with magic to be designated A-ranked within the academy and join the elite Witches' House.
• Babies Ever After: At the end of the series, she along with Kaguya become pregnant with Kazuki's children.
• Back from the Dead: Phenex's level 10 magic, Revive, denies someone's death and brings them back to life. Kazuki performs this magic on Mio when she dies in a Heroic Sacrifice towards the end of Volume 1.
• Badass Adorable: She's a cute young girl and a very competent fighter to boot.
• Childhood Friend Romance: Her love for Kazuki remained well after childhood until he remembers her and acknowledges her feelings to which her love is returned and their relationship evolves into a more romantic kind.
• Clingy Jealous Girl: Played Straight, and then downplayed as the cast gets used to the harem situation.
• Combat Medic: In addition to powerful offensive magic, Phenex also grants Mio rare and powerful healing magic.
• Defeat Means Friendship: Her initial cold demeanor towards Kazuki isn't rescinded until he defeats her in their duel and she confesses to her reasons for feeling bitter about being forgotten at which their relationship becomes progressively better afterward. In addition, while she was frustrated with losing to Kazuki, Lemegeton states that she secretly wanted Kazuki to win and prove himself.
• Defrosting Ice Queen: She starts off as a bitter girl who despises Kazuki for seemingly forgetting about her despite trying to reach out to him. When Kazuki reveals that he has never forgotten about her, Mio's positivity score dramatically increases to the point where she pulls a Heroic Sacrifice for Kazuki and starts calls him "Kazu-nii" once again.
• Died in Your Arms Tonight: At the end of volume 1, Mio dies in Kazuki's arms after pulling a Heroic Sacrifice for him. Thanks to Kazuki using Phenex's Revive magic, it doesn't last.
• Energy Weapon: Phenex’s level 6 magic, Israel Judgment, is a special that summons the avatar of Phenex behind the summoning magician’s back and fires concentrated flame and light in the form of a powerful laser.
• The Fashionista: She is known to have a great interest in fashion and as well as exceptional skill in designing clothes. Many of her outfits are handmade by her and other characters note that they go to her for clothing adjustments and fashion advice.
• Faux Action Girl: Mio is by no means a weak combatant but her defeats by Kazuki, Loki and Beatrix put a damper on her confidence in her fighting ability, making her acknowledge herself as this. That is, until it is gloriously averted when she takes out Beatrix almost entirely on her own in their rematch.
• Flight: Phenex’s level 5 magic, Blazing Wings, is a spell that grants the user the ability to fly by summoning wings of flame as well as utilizing the wings for offensive purposes.
• Friend to All Children: At the end of Volume 14, she becomes popular with children at the kindergarten classroom.
• The Gift: The level of spells attainable from one’s Diva is based on their affinity with said Diva and magical power, with most students achieving level 7-8 magic by the time of their graduation. By volume 3, Mio is already able to task level 5 magic, a feat that only took her one month.
• Girlish Pigtails: She usually wears her hair in twin tails.
• Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She's blond and one of the nicest girls you could ever hope to meet.
• Happily Adopted: During Mio's childhood, she was adopted by Chairman Amasaki from the Nanohana Institute.
• Heal It With Fire: Phenex's level 4 magic, Anti-Aging, is a healing magic that creates a small fire that accelerates natural recovery.
• Heroic Sacrifice: At the end of Volume 1, she takes Loki's Laevateinn slash to rescue Kazuki, with predictable results. Kazuki, saddened by her death, has to use Phenex's Revive magic in order to bring her back.
• Invocation:
  Mio: I know thy name... Thy name is Phenex... A poet and a Magician! The poetic bird that uses sweet words to play with truth, obey my command and displays thy power!

Kaguya’s contracted Diva is Asmodeus, a member of the Ars Goetia who grants their user a variety of abilities that include mental magic and Hellfire.

As an Elf, her body was gifted with a vast amount of magic power far above the average female that also distorted her appearance, giving her red eyes, long pointed ears and silver hair. Due to her appearance, she was persecuted by her friends, family, and society that caused her to close off her emotions. Her introduction in the story has her being cold and aloof to Kazuki, who eventually causes her to open up more due to his open feelings and lack of disgust towards her Elven status.

Koyuki’s contracted Diva is Vepar, a member of the Ars Goetia who grants their user the power of water and ice magic.

The runaway princess of the Dukedom of Seinmundo, a small country in Northern Europe that was formed around the time magic was first discovered. The Dukedom of Seimundo, although self-autonomous, is a puppet-state under the rule of Germany. Suffering from an illness since birth, she is approached by the weakened and amnesiac Prophet who negotiates an arrangement with Lotte to save her from the illness that’s soon to kill her in exchange for partial possession of her to regain his former power and to hide from his enemies. From creating a contract with Prophet, the parts of her body that were sick were overwritten and the illness disappears. Hearing word of her contract with Prophet the German government brands her an illegal magician for contracting with a Diva outside of the Norse mythology and tasks their elite soldiers to deliver her execution, forcing her to seek asylum in Japan as a refugee.

Lotte’s Diva is Prophet; who is later revealed to be Prometheus, a member of the Titans and the Greek mythology. Because Prometheus’s gift of fire gave humanity the means to build civilization, his magic grants his user the ability to wield futuristic weapons such as rail guns and jet packs.

• Defrosting Ice Queen: At first, Shinobu is so jealous of Kazuki because of the attention that Miyabi is getting from Kazuki. However, after Kazuki absolves Shinobu of her guilt and they rescue Miyabi in volume 8, Shinobu apologizes to him for her actions and joins Kazuki's harem.
• Despair Event Horizon: Shinobu goes through one in the backstory after Miyabi gets turned into an elf and ridiculed.
• Does Not Like Men: At first, Shinobu resents men because she thinks that they would steal Miyabi away. She eventually changes her tune during the second half of volume 8.
• Elemental Powers: Marchosias gives her both fire and ice, making her dual elemental spells difficult to defend against.
• Freudian Excuse: She and Miyabi were born identical twins, but only Miyabi gets transformed into an elf in their backstory. Shinobu has a major Heroic BSoD and is unable to register evidence that Miyabi is an elf, as well as being disillusioned with humanity.

• No Social Skills: A mild case at first, again due to her growing up with Miyabi being persecuted as an elf.
• Offscreen Moment of Awesome: In the epilogue, Kazuki mentions that she managed to wring him dry in their "sister sandwich."
• Real Men Eat Meat: A gender inversion. She really loves eating meat, which is why Kazuki prepared plenty of meat dishes for her in Volume 8.
• Stripperific: Deconstructed. She borrows Miyabi's exceptionally racy, and impractical, swimsuit to tease Kazuki. To nobody's surprise the inevitable Wardrobe Malfunction occurs which she then proceeds to exploit for all its worth.

Karin Katsura

An assassin from Yamato. Originally Shizuka's (brainwashed) subordinate, until she was thrown away and rescued by Kazuki. Winds up under "house arrest" with Kazuki being her caretaker.

• Bare-Fisted Monk: Specializes in a style that can damage and kill people while bypassing their defensive magic.
• The Dog Bites Back: She ends up capturing Shizuka at the end of volume 5.
• Emotionless Girl: She sees herself as a puppet and refused both breakfast and lunch because she "does not need it." By dinnertime, her body disagreed with that sentiment, and she found out what "cooking" means, much to her delight. (Though this does not trigger a PL increase.)
• Extreme Doormat: She might have been trying to steal the crown from Slaine Troyard. To wit, she has no idea what cooking is, as, prior to being rescued by Kazuki, she was forced to eat beans, bamboo and other shoots, raw, she recognizes what a shower is, but does not know how to bathe herself properly, or use the alchemical method, and was shocked when Kazuki prepared a bath for her with hot running water, implying her idea of being bathed was simply being showered with a hose, and when Kazuki made an off-hand comment referring to her as "picking up a troublesome pet," her positivity level increases reaching a setting of 41. For reference, Mio's key was reached at 60 and Koyuki's was reached by 75. She eventually Took a Level in Badass when Shizuka turns on her.
• Happiness in Slavery: Kazuki calling her a "pet" actually triggers a PL increase.
• Heel–Face Turn: She is introduced trying to assassinate Kazuki. After Shizuka turns on her, Karin becomes one of his strongest allies.
• I Just Want to Have Friends: The mere fact of being in Kazuki's team during volume 8 raises her PL, while she sings and dances about teamwork.

• Chekhov's Skill: Mibu's interest in being a confectioner comes into play during Kaguya's epilogue, where she bakes a birthday cake for the latter.
• Heel–Face Turn: They're later shown helping Japan fight Yamato.
• Hidden Depths: Turns out that Akira wanted to be a confectioner instead of a summoner, but was forced to go to the academy because of her Enigma.

• Cute Ghost Girl: She was completely butchered by Yamato when they defiled the shrines of the Shinto pantheon, after being dragged into Magic intoxication by Ikousai. Kazuki's contract with Amaterasu is the only hope she has of getting a body again.
• Dark and Troubled Past: Her life was not pleasant, before and after being butchered by Yamato. She did well in elementary and middle school, but by the time she reached high-school, she winds up completely deconstructing the Japanese over-achieving workaholic culture. Her performance started out behind her classmates causing her to be ridiculed which caused her to withdraw, which in turn caused her to fall further behind, bringing about more ridicule eventually turning to net games for social interaction without mockery, causing her to fall further behind until eventually her parents gave up and completely cut her off, destroying all her faith in herself, and that's when she was contracted by Amaterasu, who only wanted to be her friend.
• Hikikomori: Like her Diva, she's a complete shut in and is terrified of crowds of people.
• I Owe You My Life: Literally. Kazuki's powers as Solomon's king are the only reason she exists.
• Ms. Imagination: Amaterasu creates an artificial dimension for her soul where all her fantasies come true.
• The Rival: Though not entirely by choice. The relationship between Susanoo and Amaterasu causes their respective contractors to be antagonistic towards each other.

• Mage Killer: The Hayashizaki style is meant to counter mages and Kanae later develops a difficult technique, Shin’iki, that can cancel a summoner's chant, including short ones. Sadly, like Kazuki's Kasane, it's extremely difficult to consistently use in an actual fight without a lot of concentration. Contracting with Beleth allows her to use it in battle almost at will (failing only when her concentration gets really sloppy).
• The Magic Touch: She technically does not form a contract with Beleth in the same way as a Magika Stigma; Beleth instead possesses her sword Michikage, turning it into a Sacred Treasure. Activating the latter is analogous to the rest transforming into their Magic Dresses.
• Master Swordswoman: How much this trope applies varies. In Volume 9, she duels Kazuki and nearly wins until he uses Zekorbini, thanks to her new technique that can interrupt chanting. Unfortunately, she states that she can only concentrate enough to use it when fighting Kazuki and only Kazuki.
• Meaningful Name: Kanae (鼎) in Japanese means a three-legged kettle as well as a symbol of a king or other high authority.
• Rank Scales with Asskicking: She's a powerful swordswoman and the leader of Caryatid's Sword Division student council.
• Red Baron: Storm Cat, a combination of her cat-like tendencies and tremendous agility to attack from her opponent’s blind spots.
• Retired Badass: After Lucifer's defeat, Kanae retires from her life as a swordswoman.
• Shut Up, Hannibal!: Her response to Kohaku’s statement about changing the current era to one where swordsmen aren’t inferior to Magika Stigma is that she doesn’t actually care about her “great cause” because she isn’t fighting to change the status quo; she is simply fighting to take out her feelings of inferiority and aggression on those in the Magic Division under the convenient excuse of a greater cause. She tells her that the distance between the two divisions is closing due to the efforts of Kazuki and Kaguya but she ignores the truth because of her own pride. Her actions will undo the work the two have done, all for the sake of her desire to have the Magic Division submit to her. As a result, Kohaku finds that she is unable to deny her accusations.
• Student Council President: She is the leader of Caryatid's Sword Division until she gets beaten by Kohaku.

Torazo Yamada

A member of the Sword Division student council, Torazo is introduced as the third seat of the Sword Division, making him the third strongest student after Kanae Hayashizaki and Iori Kamizumi. Often seen around Kanae, Torazo becomes enlightened by Kazuki’s swordsmanship in the first volume, especially after his overwhelming victory in his duel with Mio Amasaki. After witnessing the duel he states to Kazuki that his performance made him see that the power of the sword isn’t inferior to that of summoning magic.

• Boring, but Practical: His signature move, "Torazo Smash", is simply a powerful swing of his sword with all of his strength and skill behind it but Kazuki states it is feared as the strongest attack within the Sword Division.
• Butt-Monkey: Despite his rank he seems to be a constant target of abuse by in the Sword Division. Especially from Kanae, who sees him as a nuisance and Kohaku, who doesn’t respect him for being weaker than her.
• Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Aside from all the constant abuse of him throughout the story Torazo was still the third seat of the Sword Division at one time, a position where your status is decided by strength within the entire division.
• Hyper-Competent Sidekick: Since he describes Kanae and Iori as being strong in battle but good-for-nothings he is left doing all of the practical work they skip out on doing.
• Red Is Heroic: He sports red hair.
• Unskilled, but Strong: Torazo lacks any special abilities like summoning magic, possess Sacred Treasures like Kohaku or special skills such as Foresight like the Hayashizaki siblings but still manages to be among the strongest members of the Sword Division.
• The Worf Effect: Of the few onscreen battles Torazo takes part in he is unfortunately used as a measuring stick to portray how strong someone is or has become. He is hopelessly overwhelmed in his mock battle against Hikaru to show her strength as the Vice President of the Magic Division, defeated by Kohaku to showcase Futsunushi no Kami’s blessing ability to enable someone the usage of a Sacred Treasure and defeated by Kazuha in the Chief Student Council election battle to show how far her training under Kazuki has made her into a better swordsman.

President Kohaku Hikita

A practitioner of the Shinkage style, Kohaku appears before Kazuki requesting him to marry her so she can unite the Hayashizaki and Shinkage sword styles to become the strongest sword style.

• Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: She initially looked down upon Kanae for using regular swords instead of Sacred Treasures, believing that she lives in the past and that the only way that swordsmen can hope to compete with a summoning magician is by using said Sacred Treasures.
• Asskicking Leads to Leadership: She manages to defeat Kanae and temporarily become the Student Council President of the Sword Division.
• Badass Boast: She gives one to Hikaru in her introduction when she tries to surprise attack her after she ignores her to speak to Kazuki.
  ”If a child tries to measure his strength against a tiger, he will die.”
• BFG: Her Sacred Treasure, Taroudachi, absorbs her magical power to grow several dozen times larger, capable of catching someone as agile as Kanae in one swing.
• Big Damn Heroes: Assists Koyuki in saving Kazuki, Lotte and Mio at the end of Volume 2 from Kaguya.
• Blow You Away: Her Sacred Treasure, Doutanuki, releases blades of wind whenever she swings the sword.
• Break the Haughty: Introduced as being arrogant and reliant on Sacred Treasures to bridge the gap in ability between summoning magicians and swordsmen Kohaku gets this throughout Volume 3. The first instance is from her match with Kanae, who overcame her vast arsenal with pure skill and would have defeated her if not for the intervention of Kohaku’s allies. The second instance is when Nyarlathotep's Quad Core Magicians overwhelm her and her team of Sacred Treasure wielding comrades, only to be saved by Kazuki and co., whose victory over the enemies demonstrate to Kohaku that her methodology is wrong.
• The Chains of Commanding: After becoming the Student Council President of the Sword Division, she realizes that the position is actually quite cumbersome, especially when dealing with demands from radical factions. As such, she doesn't mind being replaced in the election tournament to decide the Chief Student Council President.
• Empowered Badass Normal: When she uses her Sacred Treasures, she can actually surpass Kanae. She also got Futsunushi no Kami to help her comrades use them too. After being required to use normal swords during the tournament, she's still skilled enough to be a top contender in the Sword Division.
• An Ice Person: Her Sacred Treasure, Murasame, utilizes water in the atmosphere to launch blades of ice.
• Innocently Insensitive: A noticeable flaw in her attempts at courting Kazuki is the fact that she doesn’t seem to understand how rude asking someone to marry her as a means to end or how her plan to increase the status of swordsmen in society is based off on using Kazuki as a tool to get around the rules.
• Laser Blade: Her Sacred Treasure, Mikadzuki Munechika, is a sword whose slashes produce an arc of a crescent moon with each swing and reverses cause and effect, allowing her to never miss a target.
• Loophole Abuse: This yet another reason why she approaches Kazuki aside from her marriage proposal. Since Sword Division students cannot undergo quests without having at least one member being a Magic Division student she wishes to exploit the rule by having Kazuki join her party since he is not only a Magic Division student but also a very powerful swordsman in name and reputation. By using Kazuki she intends to rack up as much fame and accolades to increase the reputation of swordsmen in society.
• Supreme Chef: Kohaku has excellent culinary skills, enough for Kazuki to note how professional her workmanship is and see her as a rival in cooking.
• Wacky Marriage Proposal: She wishes to marry Kazuki to unite the Shinkage style and the Hayashizaki style to become the strongest sword style school in Japan. Unfortunately for her, not only does Kazuki believe in marrying someone you love he is also turned off by how she doesn’t seem to actually like him as a person but only seeks to use his status and power to accomplish her own goals.
• Walking Armory: She has seven Sacred Treasure swords.
• Well-Intentioned Extremist: She wants to increase the standing of the Sword Division and legalize the use of magic swords, but Kanae calls her out on being too aggressive towards the Magic Division, although she's nowhere near as radical as the Takasugi family. She gives up on this mindset when her policies become supported by Headmaster Amasaki through political means.

Kazuha Tsukahara

Diva: Futsunushi no Kami

A summoner in the Sword Division and a friend of Kohaku. In contrast to Kazuki, she's a genius summoner with mediocre sword skills.

• Blessed with Suck: She initially looks down upon her prodigious magic talents because she would much rather have said level of ability in her skill at the sword.
• Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: With Futsunushi no Kami. Lampshaded by the Diva himself.
• Boxing Lessons for Superman: She becomes far more competent with the sword after learning from Kazuki.
• Covert Pervert: Combined with Panty Thief. While in North America, Kazuki catches her sneaking into the laundry to steal his underwear and sniff it. Kazuki playfully retaliates by flipping her over, pulling off her panties and sniffing them, right in front of her.
  • While he did flip her and took her panties off, they weren't what he sniffed.
• Defeat Means Respect: Towards Kazuki. The friendship part takes a little longer due to her disapproval of his harem antics.
• Disintegrator Ray: Instinctively learns to do disintegration magic, one of the most difficult types of non-Diva-related magic, while in a fluster to erase physical evidence of Kazuki and her, ehem, "activities" in the 11th volume.
• Don't Call Me "Sir": Kohaku tends to call her “Mikohime”, much to her chagrin.
• Friend to All Children: At the end of Volume 14, she becomes popular with children at the kindergarten classroom.
• I Just Want to Have Friends: Lampshaded. She tries so hard to befriend people that she winds up repelling them instead. She was traumatized when Lotte befriended Itsuki first, claiming she's been NTR'ed.

• Necromancer: Futsunushi no Kami’s level 2 magic, Kenki Tensei, allows the user to summon the spirits of famous Japanese warriors with the same skills and abilities they possessed when they were alive. The downside is that the spirits do not possess magic power and they can only create up to three spirits at a time.
• Perverted Sniffing: On both ends. Kazuki catches her stealing his underwar from the laundry and sniffing it, so he flips her over, steals her panties off her and sniffs them right in front of her.
• Power Nullifier: Futsunushi no Kami’s level 3 magic, Futsu no Mitama, creates a copy of Futsunushi no Kami that possesses the power to cut magic power and purify evil.
• Reluctant Fanservice Girl: Starting in volume 6, she unwillingly finds herself under-clothed around Kazuki, repeatedly. The two of them end up being forced to dance naked, in front of each other, to free Amaterasu.
• Storm of Blades: Futsunushi no Kami’s level 5 magic, Tenku Batto Rengeho, summons a storm of Sacred Treasure katanas enhanced with many different elements that can be directed and fired at an enemy.

• Big Good: He becomes the headmaster of Caryatid National Knight Academy following Otonashi's death.
• Heel–Face Turn: He was introduced as being extremely antagonistic towards Kazuki. His opinion changed after seeing Kazuki's character first hand, and witnessing Kazuki save his (adopted) daughter's life, repeatedly.
• Heel Realization: When stabbed by Nyarlathotep, he realizes that his actions aren't doing the school or his adopted daughter any good, and he is being a jerk to Kazuki for no real reason.
• Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Courtesy of Nyarlathotep. He gets better, but it's close.
• Insane Troll Logic: At first. He is quick to blame Kazuki's very existence for the criminal actions of numerous antagonists. This changes once he encountered Nyarlathotep, and he fully investigates his own government's actions.
• Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He blames Kazuki for daring to reciprocate Mio and the criminal actions of numerous antagonists. Once he has his Heel Realization, he is willing to put all differences aside and become the headmaster after Nyarlathotep's death.
• Knight Templar Parent: He starts off as a jerk to Kazuki because the latter dared to try and reciprocate to a romantic relationship with Mio. Saving Mio's life repeatedly, and being instrumental in making her extremely happy, and vastly improving her magical abilities changes his attitude towards Kazuki.

• Abusive Parent: After his sons fail to defeat Kazuki, he allows them to be forcibly possessed by mad Divas.
• Alliterative Name: Takayoshi Takasugi
• Fantastic Racism: Towards anyone with a Stigma mark. He pretty much advocates enslaving the mage knights of the country, in all but name.
• Four Eyes, Zero Soul: He wears glasses and has a villainous personality.
• Lack of Empathy: He doesn't see anyone with a stigma mark as human, legal contractor or not.
• Lean and Mean: He's a thin man and is a villain.
• A Nazi by Any Other Name: His governing policies and those of his two sons were ripped right out of Mein Kampf. His whole family shouts about wiping out "the lesser beings" as part of their official Student Council campaigning.
• Never My Fault: Convinces himself, and his sons, that all their wrong doing is a direct result of the protagonists' actions.
• Obstructive Bureaucrat: He's directly responsible for the skewed tournament rules, not allowing Kazuki to have his sword, sabotaging the tournament to openly favor his sons, and allowing Shizuka, a member from a foreign, and hostile, country to participate in a fashion where she would have the best chances of murdering Kazuki.
• Put on a Bus to Hell: Takasugi is no longer a board chairman once Kazuki becomes Student Council President and is switched over to Yamato’s statesman.

The representative for Yamato. A truly unpleasant individual seeking to kill Kazuki.

• Bare-Fisted Monk: She fights using only her hands.
• Dirty Coward: Gloats when she has the upper hand, but when it looks like she's going to lose, she teleports away.
• Driven to Suicide: After losing to Karin and getting captured, she uses psychokinesis to kill herself.
• Evil Gloating: On every single appearance. She will happily abandon any pretext of being a "noble competitor" at the slightest excuse.
• Fatal Flaw: Her brainwashing of her followers and overconfidence is what leads to her committing suicide.
• Hoist by Her Own Petard: She gets captured by Karin after deeming her expendable.
• It's All About Me: Treats her brainwashed followers and her loyal subject, Karin (also brainwashed as well), as nothing more than pawns and meat-shields.
• My Death Is Just the Beginning: Hel uses the fact that she killed herself in the Knight Order's barracks to sneak in, using her authority, to then break Ikousai out.
• Not Too Dead to Save the Day: She manages to rescue Karin from China as a result of Hel's authority during the Atlantis arc.

• Affably Evil: She has a benevolent personality despite being a villain.
• Awesome by Analysis:
  • She manages to see through Kazuki's Kasane technique and uses psychokinesis to No-Sell it.
  • Kazuki improvises Midashi to parry magic attacks in the middle of their final duel. Just from seeing it once, she manages to copy this technique to deflect Kazuki's spells.
• Big Bad: The main antagonist of volumes 4-9.
• Cruel Mercy: She doesn't kill Fu Shi, but only so she can torment the young girl by taunting her with her stolen authority.
• Defeat Means Friendship: It took until the last volume, but she joins Kazuki's harem after losing in Atlantis.
• Evil Counterpart: To Kazuki. Both are descended from long, proud swordsmen families. Both take great pride in their skill and traditions. Both are "King" candidates for their respective pantheons. While Kazuki cherishes his companions, who are with him willingly, and does his best to make them happy, for their sake, Ikousai happily "recruits" people by forcefully having them possessed by Mad Diva, treats them like disposable tools, and causes them to stumble about without food or rest for extended periods of time, like an Artificial Zombie. This includes her authority to steal the authorities of kings that she defeats, which serves as a dark mirror to Kazuki's authority to use his haremette's spells. Finally, Ikousai is rather awkward towards members of the opposite sex, much like Kazuki in the first volume.
• Evil Redhead: She has red hair and is an antagonist to boot.
• From Nobody to Nightmare: Downplayed like Kazuki, since she's also had sword skills prior to contracting with a Diva. She and Nyarlathotep lampshade this trope when they discuss her previous life as an ordinary college student.
• Hidden Heart of Gold: She's a surprisingly good mother figure, and according to the narration, is the first character ever to give Hel the affection she so desperately needs.
• Hypocrite: At first, she mocks those possessed by Mad Divas, only to resort to being possessed by Susanoo in order to match Kazuki.
• It's All About Me: Willing to endanger Japan's population, native deities, and hand over territory to China or Loki, just to prove her sword style is "superior."
• Master Swordswoman: Like Kazuki, she uses a sword as her weapon. She's also able to see through many of the techniques of the Hayashizaki family and manages to copy one of them.
• The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: During the Atlantis war, she's really insistent that she and Kazuki fight each other to the death and that none of the other Kings can steal her kill.
• Unwanted Assistance: She yells at Son Shouryuu, claiming Kazuki as "her prey" and being highly offended when the latter attacks anyway. She later tries to refuse Kazuki's help when he has to save her from Loki's alliance.
• Victor Gains Loser's Powers: Her authority allows her to steal another king's authority if she lands the defeating blow. She uses this to take Fu Shi's authority in Volume 12.
• Villainous Valor: Backed off once she learned Kazuki was present by invitation of Amaterasu.
• War for Fun and Profit: All she ever talks or thinks about is plundering power from others, China, Loki, the other Shinto gods, whatever, and she's arrogant enough to think that she'll succeed, despite being soundly defeated, repeatedly.
• Weak, but Skilled: Like Kazuki, she starts out far weaker than the other kings, but can hold her own with her sword skills. She drops the weak part after stealing Fu Shi's authority.
• Worthy Opponent: While Kazuki heavily disagrees with her motivations, he admits that he respects her for also being a skilled Magic Knight.

Son Shouryuu

One of the first named antagonists summoners from China.

• Ax-Crazy: She goes absolutely nuts when fighting.
• Blood Knight: Really loves fighting and warfare. The stronger and more skilled his opponent, the better.
• Carry a Big Stick: He wields Son Goku's legendary extending staff.
• Enemy Mine: Subverted. Although he and his allies break free from Ikousai's control, they reject Kazuki's attempt to form a temporary alliance.
• Child Soldier: He looks like he's in middle school, and he fights for China on the front lines.
• Enfante Terrible: Despite being a child, he has an impressive kill count. Further, he calls his opponents "toys" that he's looking forward to "breaking."
• Undying Loyalty: Combined with Evil Virtues. He, Guan Yu's contractor, and several other Chinese knights resist Ikousai's control out of loyalty to Fu Shi.
• Unskilled, but Strong: Despite lacking any kind of martial arts ability or skill, he is often victorious due to the sheer amount of magical power he brings to bear.

The Chinese Empress: Fu Shi

Diva: Dragon of Heaven's Decree

Homeland: China

The child empress of China, chosen by a ritual where babies crawl over burning coals, with the survivor being granted the title. A practice still used in India today. She's had a stigma and a contract with the King of the Chinese pantheon since infancy.

• Above Good and Evil: She believes that she's the only one who can decide what's right or wrong, and people don't have the right to be angry at her when her actions harm them unless she gives them the priviledge.
• Affectionate Nickname: She allows Loki and Kaya to call her "Hiroko-chan."
• All Your Base Are Belong to Us: Justified. Her power level is directly proportional to how much territory she holds.
• A Child Shall Lead Them: Justified. The customs of her country granted her a stigma as an infant.
• Assimilation Plot: Her goal is to force all of humanity into a hive mind where everyone is equal and resources are evenly distributed.
• Blessed with Suck: She's implied to be the strongest king, but her Diva is so powerful that she can barely hold it back. And if she doesn't follow its agenda, it'll mentally torture her.
• Creepy Child: There is very little if anything child-like about her behavior.
• Fantastic Racism: Sees anyone and everyone that isn't a citizen of China as nothing more than "barbarians" that are only useful as slave labor, at best.
• Hive Mind: Downplayed and deconstructed. She can turn her army into a hive-mind with her in order to perfectly coordinate her attacks. However, she can't access their thoughts, which means all of them will act on her overly formulaic strategies instead of their own experience, meaning her army won't have any plan to fall back on when her own strategy is countered. She can also transfer her mind over to one her soldiers if she's defeated though she's defeated by Aisu Ikousai before she gets the chance.
• Knight Templar: Fused with Tautological Templar. She's so convinced that her goals are noble and just, that she believes her actions are noble and just, without exception. Anyone who dares call her out on it "deserves a thousand deaths."
• Laser-Guided Karma: Her faction planned to use Ikousai as a stepping stone to conquer Japan, only to try to kill her once she failed. In Volume 12, Ikousai uses Fu Shi as a stepping stone by defeating her and stealing her authority.
• Made of Iron: Thanks to her territory-based empowerment, it takes the efforts of nearly every faction to send her into magic intoxication.
• Mirror Character: From Regina. Both seek to bring about ecological balance, by conquering and enslaving people. Amusingly, she's less extreme about it, at least until her Assimilation Plot is revealed.
• Smug Super: Combined with Spoiled Brat. Being raised as the Chinese Empress, she's been led to believe that she's superior to everyone at everything, and takes the mere phrase "let's educate this child" as an unforgivable insult since she believes "education goes from superior people to inferior people." Ikousai is only too happy to show her how wrong she is.
• Suicidal Overconfidence: She believes she can defeat any opponent with ease and gets wildly enraged at any thought of retreat or withdrawal.
• Well-Intentioned Extremist: She makes the people of countries assimilated into her culture use up their magic labor to clean up the ecological damage caused by her predecessors in China, prior to when magic was activated by the Philosopher's stone. According to Rakushudo, this is viewed as mercy by both China and nations that are not "advanced magic countries." Later, Ryōzanpaku reveals that Chukadou plans on assimilating all humans into a hive mind for the sake of "peace and equality".
• The Worf Effect: During the Atlantis arc, her poor tactics leads to her falling into traps, taking unnecessary hits, and getting her powers stolen by Aisu Ikousai, just to show that an army battle royale can't be won with power alone.
• Unskilled, but Strong: Despite being the strongest King in terms of raw power, she's lacking as a tactician. Normally, this would be moot because her elite soldiers are very experienced in battle and manipulation, but they're not allowed to give her advice, since that would be talking down to her.
• We Have Reserves: When she turns her troops into the Red Nopperabou, they become a "colony" of herself, losing their identity, that she can kill to restore her magic power. This aspect of her authority is what ultimately does her in.

German Knights

Captain Beatrix Baumgard

Species: Human

Diva: Thor

Homeland: Germany

A soldier hailing from Germany, she is the captain of the Einherjar, a group cooperating with Japan to take down Loki since he is an enemy of Norse mythology, who has placed Germany under their patronage. Beatrix is also secretly tasked with assassinating Charlotte Lieben Frau, who has fled Germany for creating a contract with Prometheus, a Diva outside of Norse mythology. This objective places her at odds with Kazuki, who not only believes this to be an inhumane and unjust treatment but also has come to like Charlotte during the time he spent with her. After an arduous battle, Kazuki manages to defeat her and Beatrix becomes completely enamored with him, stating her desire to be with Kazuki as well as fight him to the death.

Beatrix’s contracted Diva is Thor, a member of the Norse mythology who grants their user the power of physical reinforcement and lightning magic.

• And Now You Must Marry Me: After temporarily turning against Japan in Volume 8, she plans on making sure Kazuki loses the contest for Japan's kingship so that he becomes an ordinary person, allowing her to take him back to Germany and marry him.
• The Berserker: As expected of the contractor of the warrior god, Thor. In her fight with Kaguya she shrugs off some of her most dangerous magic which include a hallucination of the damage done by her own attacks, an amplification of said damage and having all of her five senses severed. Her response to the damage is to become elated about being able feel the pain of her own blows and keep attacking.
• Blood Knight: She loves nothing more than a good fight and her intentions with Kazuki range from loving him to maiming him in a fight.
• Combat Sado Masochist: She not only loves dishing out pain, she's euphoric upon receiving it. By the time of the America civil war, Kazuki starts feeling jealous when Beatrix goes into this mode, happily enjoying the fight with Standing Bear.
• Dating Catwoman: She's included in Kazuki's positivity level readings despite her habit of switching between helping him and fighting him.
• Heroic Sacrifice: Beatrix takes Ilya's Zmey meant for Kazuki by the end of Volume 13. She gets better.
• Horrible Judge of Character: Although the information regarding human experimentation was brought to her by Eleonora, a highly trusted aide, de-facto declaring war on Japan, and to a lesser extent Kazuki, without bothering to verify said info was particularly foolish.
• Insult Backfire: Kazuki rudely suggesting naming a warship "The Barbarian Beatrix" causes her to blush with joy.
• Invocation:
  Beatrix: For the sake of soldiers desiring Valhalla, descend from Asgard and show those brave figures. I too will show the spirit of a hero. Oh Asgard’s gods of war... Right here to me.
• Lightning Bruiser: Especially when compared to Kazuki. Her magic enables her to be strong enough to overwhelm Kazuki in a blade exchange, so fast that Kaguya doesn’t have enough time to cast her magic and tough enough to tank some of the most debilitating magic seen in the series.
• Love at First Punch: After her defeat by Kazuki she falls madly in love with him.
• Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Beatrix’s Sacred Treasure, Svalinn, is a shield from the Norse mythology that provides her with an absolute resistance towards flames.
• Meaningful Name: Beatrix is Latin for "she who makes [anyone] happy".
• A Nazi by Any Other Name: Beatrix's usual dress reminds one of a typical Schutzstaffel uniform.
• The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Warns Kazuki to be aware that other countries/powers might be after him because she doesn't want someone else to kill him.
• Punched Across the Room: Decides to take out Mio first in their rematch thinking she’s an easy target because she triumphed over her in their last bout with her Svalinn. Mio shows the fruits of her effort by using Psychokinesis to manipulate oxygen to increase the power of her Israel Judgment and knocks Beatrix across the battlefield.
• Rank Scales with Asskicking: The Ace of Germany, one of their strongest warriors and also captain of the Einherjar, Beatrix isn’t someone to be trifled with. She is so powerful that she overwhelmed Kaguya, the strongest person of Caryatid National Knight Academy, for the majority of their fight and forced Kazuki to briefly ally himself with Kaya and a weakened Loki after she completely thrashes him in their first fight. Despite the added assistance he only barely manages to win by using Prometheus’s level 10 magic Olympia Forger and the recently acquired Raikiri. After Hrotsvit dies, Beatrix becomes King in her place and gains the Rune magic that her predecessor used.
• Shock and Awe: Her diva is Thor, the Norse god of thunder. This is to be expected.
• Spell Blade: Thor’s level 3 magic, Fjorgyn Megin, coats the user’s weapon in lightning.
• Super-Reflexes: Thor’s level 1 magic, Berserk, increases the user’s physical strength and reflexes. It also turns the user’s eyes red.
• Super-Strength: Thor’s level 2 magic, Megingjord, doubles the user’s physical strength.
• Taking the Bullet: Despite being in an Enemy Mine with him, Beatrix cares about Kazuki enough to tank powerful magic for him, as shown when she protects him from brainwashed summoners in Volume 5 and from Ilya's last ditch attack in Volume 13.
• This Cannot Be!: She looks on in utter fury and awe when she sees Kazuki casting multiple summoning magic, realizing that her opponent wasn’t just a mere skilled student but a King.
• Trademark Favorite Food: Given the chance she will grab anything remotely identifiable as "meat" and eat it with gusto, laughing like a madman, as shown during the buffet in volume 11.
• Unwitting Pawn: Loki tells her group about the previous headmaster's experiments, while conveniently omitting the fact that Kazuki already dealt with him, all in an attempt to set her off against Kazuki again.
• Yandere: She can't tell what she wants more, to force Kazuki to marry her, or to fight him to the death.

• Horrible Judge of Character: Taking information received from a highly suspicious source at face value purely because it aligns with your interests is the height of foolishness.
• Making a Splash: Capable of using water magic thanks to her Diva Aegir, the sea god of Norse Mythology, and is more skilled at it than Koyuki.
• More Dakka: One of her spells involves unleashing a torrent of water bullets.

• Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue Oni to Damian’s Red Oni.
• The Stoic: She’s never seen losing her composure and always speaks to a deadpan tone.
• Toxic Friend Influence: She tries to very hard to separate Kazuki and Beatrix, regardless if it means driving a wedge between Japan and Germany, all while claiming this is for Beatrix's own good.

• Dispel Magic: Hodur’s magic, Norngjord, allows her to negate binding magic such as Baal’s Horoscope Stasis, which can seal dragons.
• Gratuitous German: Combined with Precision F-Strike. Damian cusses out Hikaru in German.
• Flaming Sword: Hodur’s magic, Stories Flame, envelopes her blade in a fierce fire that can melt ice magic with ease.
• Improbable Aiming Skills: Hodur’s magic, Mistilteinn, ignores obstacles like wind magic and always accurately hits its mark.
• "Instant Death" Radius: Hodur’s magic, Mistilteinn II, creates a sword coated in a dark aura that is said to murder a god. The weapon is so powerful that it can evenly clash and draw with that of Baal’s level 8 magic Yagrush.
• Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red Oni to Eleonora's Blue Oni.
• Sir Swears Alot: Damian's language in the fight with Hikaru is... unpleasant.

King Hrotsvit Lesedrama

• Armor-Piercing Attack: Her Gungnir spear can ignore defensive magic if it hits the opponent's vital spots.
• Back from the Dead: After Lucifer's demise, she returns as a human.
• Blind Weaponmaster: She's blind, but is still one of the best close-range combatants in the series. In a melee only match with Kazuki, Hrotsvit uses her Disability Superpower to foresight all of his attacks until he turns off Enchant Aura and hits her with a harmless attack.
• Blood Knight: She enjoys battles as much as the rest of her country as shown when she decides to fight the Italian army by herself despite being near death, but she only picks fights that she thinks are winnable and pragmatic for her country.
• Despair Event Horizon: She and Odin are aware that Divas are empty beings and that the entire war is pointless. Her main for participating in Ragnarok is to satisfy her Blood Knight tendencies.
• Desperation Attack: Her Authority of the Lunatic King makes her stronger as her magic power is lowered. She combines this with Orto Rune and her own foresight to counteract the drawback.
• Eye Scream: At some point before the series, she loses both of her eyes.
• Hoist by Her Own Petard: Her overly "pragmatic" methods eventually causes her to make an enemy of Regina, who teams up with Loki's faction to kill her..
• Karmic Death: She is killed by the same subordinate who teams up with Loki to exact revenge
• Laser-Guided Karma: She betrays Regina and lets her get curbstomped by Loki, Ilya, and Fu Shi despite their alliance. As revenge, Regina teams up with Loki and helps him kill Hrotsvit in Atlantis.
• The Last Dance: After Regina manages to corner her and deplete most of her magic, Hrotsvit decides to go out taking out as much as Regina's army as possible while allowing her own army to regroup with Kazuki's.

• All Your Powers Combined: Again, this depends on other summoner's positivity levels with Kazuki. Interestingly, she can also gain the powers of non-Goetia divas that form an alliance with her.
• Ambiguously Brown: While she may have started out light-skinned, after her powers are sufficiently restored, she gets very tan.
• Become a Real Boy: She chose Kazuki as her contractor so she can fulfill her wish of becoming human.
• Bedmate Reveal: She loves sneaking into Kazuki's bed while he sleeps. In her child form, nobody saw an issue with this. In her adult form...
• Bishoujo Line: She gains a more mature body as Kazuki restores her powers.
• Deliberate Values Dissonance: Her harem trial flabbergasts most of the characters who know of it, but her original culture did allow polygamy, and Solomon did have a very large harem indeed.
• Fascinated By Humanity: She, and her pantheon, are all awestruck by humanity and want to be closer to people.
• The Gadfly: Once She's All Grown Up, she likes nothing more than teasing Kazuki and the girls of his harem.

The Norse god of mischief; the first antagonist of the story, who convinces a broken Kaya to form a contract with him so he may use her as vessel to sow chaos and discord throughout the world to enact Ragnarok, to achieve this endgame he offers his powers to various factions such as China, Yamato and Russia who oppose Japan. Loki gives off the vibe of a being of pure insanity but in reality he possesses a manipulative and analytical intellect, able to create allies from enemies and sow discord among his foes simply due to knowing how they would think or act given a situation.

• Berserk Button: Loki’s jovial and sneering manner completely crumbles when faced with Thor in Volume 2. Through Kaya he hysterically curses Odin and Heimdall, stating he’s going to kill them before coming after Thor himself.
• Card-Carrying Villain: While gloating about breaking Kaya, he actually requests a Nobel Prize for cruelty towards humans.
• Child by Rape: Combined with Forced Transformation. In the Magika universe, Loki was taken captive by the Ice Giants, magically turned into a mare, and forced to mate with an Ice Giant's steed. The resulting offspring is Sleipneir, Odin's warhorse.
• Cool Sword: His sword, Laevateinn, is a blade that fires a Sword Beam that cannot be evaded, strong enough to cut through defensive magic with ease and deal fatal damage in a single blow.
• Cruel Mercy: He wants Kazuki to survive the battle between kings just so the hero can live and suffer in his Social Darwinist dystopia.
• Deal with the Devil: Gave one to Kaya before the story began. She would certainly come out on the worse end. Further lampshaded by Ikousai in volume 8. She explicitly wonders if Yamato has been "selling their soul to a devil."
• Defeat Means Friendship: After losing in Ragnarok, he realizes that he actually likes Kazuki and later helps him in the final battle against Lucifer. It helps that Loki wants in on Leme's plan to turn Divas into humans, and became increasingly close with his human vessel Kaya over the series, who loves Kazuki herself.
• Dystopia Justifies the Means: He just wants to sow as much raw chaos as possible, damn the consequences.
• Enemy Mine: He rescues Kazuki and briefly teams up with him against Beatrix in Volume 2.
• Evil Versus Oblivion: His idea of chaos is total anarchy rather than the destruction of the universe. At the end of Volume 13, Kazuki tries to use this as the basis for an Enemy Mine against Typhon, though it isn't confirmed if Loki accepts.
• Face Death with Dignity: Averted with a murderous vengeance. This is the aspect of Norse mythology he hates most.
• For the Evulz: Kaya states that Loki didn’t completely erase her personality when he hijacked her body because he knows that the presence of Kaya under his control will unnerve and ridicule Kazuki, who was unable to save Kaya from Loki in their first encounter.
• Heel–Face Turn: He finally turns to the side of good after losing in Ragnarok to the point that he decides to help Kazuki kill Lucifer for good.
• Hero Killer: He accomplishes it in the very first volume by killing Mio. He and his previous contractor were also responsible for killing Hibiki, most of her loved ones, and the first incarnation of Japan's Knight Order save Liz Liza, though Hibiki managed to take the contractor down with her.
• Laser-Guided Karma: In the past he, and his crew wiped out everyone Hibiki, Kazuki's mother cared about, just For the Evulz. Hibiki would later come back and wipe out his companions eventually ending in a mutual kill to his previous host. Amazingly, Loki doesn't bear a grudge about this.
• Laughing Mad: There aren’t too many instances in the story where Loki isn’t cackling like a madman, either due to pure elation or to mock his opponents, such as Kazuki.
• Manipulative Bastard: He's rather good at convincing unrelated parties into forming an Enemy Mine with him, including the protagonist.
• Mutual Kill: His previous contractor and Kazuki's mother killed each other at the same time.
• Oxymoronic Being: Loki is full of internal contradictions, and not only fails to realize it, but gets rather cross when someone else does. He hates Face Death with Dignity among the rest of the Norse pantheon, yet finds it the most admirable trait in Kazuki. He is genuinely fond of Kaya, yet couldn't care less if she lives or dies. Highly values Hel's accomplishments, but can only praise her with empty platitudes. He is a control freak, but absolutely loathes life, or any activity like playing a game of shogi, that lacks chaos and unpredictability. For racial traits, he is both a Norse God and their most hated enemy, an Ice Giant.
• Sharp-Dressed Man: Loki wears a white suit in his human guise.
• Starter Villain: He serves as this for volume 1 and the entire series as a whole, being a god who attempts to cause chaos and achieve Ragnarok. Subverted in that he survives his first encounter with Kazuki and continues to antagonize him until he pulls a Heel–Face Turn towards the end of the series.
• Social Darwinist: His very take on "civilization" is nothing more than "survival of the fittest." Everything else is merely a repulsive charade destined to rot away. He has brainwashed Kaya into taking this world view.
• The Sociopath: While he's not clinically insane, he is utterly incapable of feeling positive emotions. As a result, he can only enjoy watching others struggle and suffer, can't show genuine affection, regardless if he wants to, and is unable to see anyone as anything other than a pawn, including himself. The one person he's fond of, Kaya, is merely a pet to him, and he ultimately does not care if she lives or dies. His own children are just pieces on a playing board, and what he likes most about Hel is that she spites him for it.
• Surrounded by Idiots: He doesn't think too highly of his children, Hel and Midgardsomr. Hel in particular is upset about not having his approval.
• This Cannot Be!: When Kazuki, with nothing more than a sword and Mio's Phenex powers, manages to actually wound him, and realizing that if Kazuki had his own sword instead of the one he borrowed, the wound would have been fatal.
• Transformation of the Possessed: Turns Kaya's body into a living host for himself.
• Underestimating Badassery: The ruling politicians of Yamato think he and Kaya are "just an ordinary illegal magician." They utterly refuse to acknowledge how much danger they're in by associating with him and "borrowing his power."
• Unskilled, but Strong: Despite having a BFS, he admits that he's not that good at using it, which is why he and Kaya use Kazuki to help deal with Beatrix.
• Unwitting Instigator of Doom: He manages to combine this with Hoist by His Own Petard. Toying around with Nyarlathotep by putting a fragment in Maya turns around and bites everyone in the ass as Nyarlathotep not only consumes and impersonates Maya immediately, but infects everybody Loki introduced Mary to by planting pieces of itself in each and every "illegal magician" among Loki's Einherijar, and China's Noperabu. This ultimately culminates in Nyarlathotep fusing with Regina to form Typhon, which wants to obliterate all creation.
• Villain Respect: Acknowledges Kazuki as "Solomon's King" before running away.
• Voluntary Shapeshifting: He can transform from a gigantic dragon in his true form to a human with silver-blue hair and green eyes.
• War for Fun and Profit: Subverted. He just likes to sow chaos for his own amusement. He doesn't care about winning or losing.
• We Will Meet Again: After being wounded by Kazuki in Volume 1, Loki vows that he will return to settle things with him.
• Wholesome Crossdresser: He and Thor did this back when they were friends. Interestingly, cross dressing is the first thing he thinks of when reminiscing about their past.
• Worthy Opponent: He considers Kazuki one, and actually relishes Kazuki's efforts to thwart his plans.
• Xanatos Gambit: Lampshaded. Loki always sets things up so they go his way, no matter what happens. He is elated that Kazuki, more often than not, realizes this and acts accordingly.

Thor

Species: Diva

Homeland: Germany

The Norse god of sky and thunder, who has a contract with Beatrix. While he grants powerful spells for his contractor, he only allows them to be used at close range.

• Blood Knight: So much that he requires his summoner to always fight at close range.
• Honor Before Reason: His spells can't be used unless the user is in close range combat, due to his Blood Knight ways.
• "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: When Kaya is defeated by Beatrix, Thor attempts to talk Loki into surrendering and making amends with the Norse gods, only for Loki to drop a Cluster F-Bomb and escape.
• Lightning Bruiser: He has at least two spells, Berserk and Megingjord, that can enhance his contractor's physical abilities to insane levels.
• Shock and Awe: Much like Baal, he can utilize electricity for physical enhancement(Berserk and Megingjord), though his offensive spells (Mjolnir) are more close ranged.
• We Used to Be Friends: With Loki, who has no intention of rekindling that friendship.

• Clingy Jealous Girl: To seriously unhealthy levels. She is so starved for Loki's affection that she will seek to kill anyone that she thinks is taking his attention away from her. She utterly fails to realize that Loki is utterly unable to give affection to anyone.
• Eyepatch of Power: She wears a patch over one eye, and she's very powerful.
• Humans Are Insects: She sees Kazuki and his harem as nothing more than a nuisance, at best.
• I Just Want to Be Loved: She is desperate to get love and affection, and she's more than willing to kill to get it.
• Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: She ultimately turns on Loki because she grows sick and tired of being nothing more than a tool for him. Loki actually cheers her on for it.
• Moral Myopia: All she wants is her father's affection, and she goes to get it by trying to prevent Kazuki's mother from giving her affection to him, and doesn't see anything wrong with her behavior. Ikousai, of all people, calls her out on it, at which point Hel breaks down and cries in her arms.
• Murder the Hypotenuse: There are elements of this in her attack on Kazuki. She tries to kill him, despite Loki's warnings, because she wants to eliminate what she sees as competition for her father's affection, unaware that he's utterly incapable of giving it.
• Necromancer: She can hijack the ghosts of the dead.
• Physical Goddess: As an "awakened Diva" she certainly is.
• Power Parasite: As the goddess of the dead she can control the powers and abilities over everyone who died, except those who died "honorably" by the standards of the Norse. This includes calling upon the powers of Diva from other pantheons, like the Ars Goetia.
• Tender Tears: After being rescued and realizing that Ikousai actually cares for her.
• This Cannot Be!: When Kazuki got over his Heroic BSoD and gained the upper hand against her.

A fellow former resident of the Nanohana Institute, the orphanage where Kazuki and Mio grew up before being adopted into the Hayashizaki and Amasaki families respectively; Kaya is introduced into the story having made an illegal contract with the evil Norse god Loki, who plans to plunge the world into chaos. She is initially shown to be possessed by Loki, who forcibly takes control of her body and later uses her body as a vessel to interact with the physical plane, she is later shown to have come to terms with Loki and joins him in his schemes to plunge the world into chaos with a misanthropic outlook on humanity.

Kaya’s contracted Diva is Loki, a member of the Norse mythology who grants her the power of several of abilities such as summoning weapons and accessories Loki has come across in the original myth along with summoning legendary dragons. Due to their symbiotic relationship Kaya can become a living host to Loki, a transformation that allows Loki to unleash the full extent of his powers without restraint, well over that of a regular magician.

• Ax-Crazy: Before Loki takes over her body Kaya was already heavily unhinged, constantly thinking about how much she loves Kazuki and Mio along with her desire to kill them because of that love. Although how much of that is due to Loki's influence is unclear, as she has shouted "give me back my mind" prior to Loki's full blown possession.
• Big "NO!": Kaya yells this before Loki forcibly takes control of her body.
• Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Kaya talks in a sweet and cutesy tone but every line she directs at Kazuki is filled with sarcasm and contempt.
• Dark and Troubled Past: The details regarding her past are vague but what is known is that the loss of Kazuki and Mio made her life miserable and an unknown event led to the deaths of everyone in the Nanohana Institute, which led her to creating an illegal contract with Loki.
• Demonic Possession: Her initial relationship with Loki was this, by which he would forcibly take control of her body with her having no recollection of what she was doing during that time. After transforming her body into a living host for him Kaya and Loki become comrades in his plan to cause chaos throughout the world and their relationship upgrades into a Symbiotic Possession, a darker version of the typical contract between summoning magician and Diva.
• Evil Feels Good: Tells Kazuki that while she was initially scared because Loki pushed her mind to the brink to more effectively steal her body, afterward she states that being overtaken by Loki feels quite good.
• Faux Affably Evil: Her pleasant personality hides an evil one.
• Forgotten Friend, New Foe: Played more straight than with Mio, Kazuki also fails to recognize Kaya at first and following her reunion with Kazuki she tries to murder him along with Mio and the rest of the students at the academy stating he abandoned her for more important people.
• Partial Transformation: She can transform parts of her body into Loki when using his magic.
• Reluctant Psycho: In the first volume, she shows discomfort in being possessed by Loki, but in the following volumes, she subverts this by accepting Loki's ideology.

Headmaster Tsukikuro Otonashi

Homeland: Yamato

The headmaster of the Caryatid National Knight Academy at the start of the story and father of Kaguya Otonashi, Tsukikuro Otonashi is introduced as one of Kazuki’s first obstacles after his contract with Lemegeton. In disbelief that the chief god of the Ars Goetia would choose a teenager as the King of Solomon, he places Kazuki under watch with the excuse that he needs to be monitored for potentially making an illegal contract with a Diva outside of the Ars Goetia. After Kazuki defeats Beatrix, his suspicions are confirmed and he rallies the other board members of the academy to deem Kazuki an illegal magician in order to conduct a dangerous procedure to transplant his Stigma from him in an effort to control the Ars Goetia.

• Abusive Parent: He didn't care about his son and only treated his daughter as an Unwitting Pawn at best. In fact, he imprinted and hypnotized his daughter Kaguya since infancy with the duty to be the strongest magician with the intentions of using that mental fortitude to incite growth in her magic power. Continues to hypnotize her after making her Student Council President of the Magic Division to have a strong pawn within the academy and forces her to push aside all emotion with logical judgment for his imprinted duty. His Evil Plan involves using his Stigmata Transplant operation to transfer Kazuki’s King’s Authority to Kaguya allowing him to have full control of the King of Solomon and the Ars Goetia. And while Tsukikuro didn't know it, he was nothing more than Nyarlathotep's pawn.
• Alas, Poor Villain: In-universe at least. Kaguya seems to be the only one who expresses any pity for him after he ends up in a coma. This is because he was a kind man before getting possessed by Nyarlathotep.

He is also more than willing to completely abandon all moral scruples in the process. In reality, he is only made to believe this is true, and he's actually going against his country's, family's, and his own interests in doing so because he's being "indoctrinated" by Nyarlathotep.
• Would Hurt a Child: One of the results of his experiments was artificially increasing the amount of magic a human being possessed. Since the birth of magic he began utilizing babies as test subjects and discontinued the project because the success rate was too low. The ones that were deemed a success are known to Japan as Elves such as Koyuki and Miyabi.

The only dark elf in the world, who was chosen by Kaya and Loki to be the new host for Nyarlathotep's fragment.

• Even Evil Has Standards: On the receiving end. Other journalists, including tabloid writers, absolutely loathe him because he does not hesitate to manufacture scandals of celebrities if there are none to be found.
• Fatal Flaw: His slandering of celebrities ends up causing the Knight Order to capture him.
• Hazy-Feel Turn: In Volume 12, he's helping Yumeno write more supportive articles about Kazuki, but it's unknown if he genuinely feels bad for his past slander, if he's helping because of the gravity of the situation, or if he's helping out of fear of the government.
• Irrational Hatred: He despises any and all celebrities with every fiber of his being, not because of anything they've done, but simply because they're famous, and he feels wholly justified in going after them.
• Jerkass: He is a malicious reporter who attempts to destroy the reputation of celebrities, including Kazuki.
• Knight Templar: He "knows" that all celebrities, without exception, are the physical embodiment of evil, thus making his attempts to "expose" them by writing scandalous articles that are, by his own admission, a fabric of lies, a just and noble endeavor. He very briefly wavers on doing the same to Kazuki after considering Kazuha's words, and the boy's young age, but then rationalized that regardless if Kazuki is innocent and noble now, he's inevitably going to become utterly despicable later, thus making it perfectly okay to preemptively "expose" him by writing a scandalous novel made entirely of lies for the express purpose of making the public of Japan utterly loathe him.
• Laser-Guided Karma: After trampling over the rights of numerous celebrities and printing scandalous slander to destroy their character and reputations, his rights get trampled in the first half of Volume 10, and his anger drops away instantly when he's reminded that Japan and China are at war and his printing that fallacy of an "article" would likely lead to his country's destruction. He still believes he did nothing wrong.
• Malicious Slander: If, despite hunting celebrities down like animals, and completely invading their lives fails to net him a hot scandal, he will outright manufacture one.
• Obliviously Evil: Sees nothing wrong with destroying people's lives by malicious slander purely because they're famous. In fact, he feels it's his righteous duty to do so.
• Only Known by Their Nickname: His name is not "Turtle Oota." It's just a stage name.
• Properly Paranoid: He correctly guessed that China, Russia and Loki would invade Japan.
• Put on a Prison Bus: He's preemtively captured by the Knight Order and put in "protective custody".
• Red Baron: He's known, disgustedly, as "Information Pyromaniac" by anyone in the journalism profession. Including to other tabloid writers.
• Smug Snake: The Knight Order knocks him down a peg or two when they capture him at the beginning of Volume 10.
• Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Wholly invested in his delusions that Kazuki is an utterly depraved individual, he writes a truly scathing, and maliciously slanderous article declaring that Kazuki has left the country to engage in scandalous debauchery, leading the China-Russia-Loki alliance to launch a full-scale invasion, and he sees nothing wrong with it. Or it would have, if the Knight Order didn't pre-emptively capture the self-righteous bastard and put him in "protective custody".
• Villain Has a Point: As he's taken away, Turtle keeps mumbling that "there's plenty of stuff the public doesn't know about." He happens to be Right for the Wrong Reasons.
• We Hardly Knew Ye: We get to know him in Volume 10 before the Knight Order captures him.
• Would Hurt a Child: Like his partner and photographer, Simo, he gets downright ecstatic dreaming up new and interesting fantastic lies to destroy the character and reputation of Kazuki, a 17-year-old, who did nothing wrong to him or anyone else, purely because he's famous. In fact, he spends all night typing up a "novel" based purely off a grainy picture with the intention of inflaming hatred towards Kazuki from the populace.

• Blue-and-Orange Morality: "Exposing" people in authority by writing scandalous stories, true or not, is "a reporter's justice."
• Entitled Bastard: He honestly thinks that one of Kazuki's duties as "King" is to be paraded around like a Panda at the Zoo and that he doesn't have the right to privacy, regardless of the very real foreign and domestic threats from other magical factions.
• Feeling Oppressed by Their Existence: He loathes people in authority. Seeing Kazuki become the "King of the Ars Goetia" drives him into a rage just thinking about it.
• Going for the Big Scoop: He is introduced breaking into a military base where the soldiers have both the orders and authority to kill intruders purely for the sake of getting a photograph that his partner in crime, "Oota," can use to justify writing a scandalous article, true or otherwise.
• Malicious Slander: He doesn't care if the scandals he writes about authorities are true or not. He just cares about how much money he'll make from selling newspapers.
• Only in It for the Money: All he cares about is selling newspapers. Facts be damned.
• Only Known by Their Nickname: Simo Heyhe Iijima is not his name, it's a code phrase.
• Paparazzi: There's a reason for his red baron. He takes photos of celebrities or important people and then "explains" them using stories his companion "Turtle" writes, true or otherwise. On his introduction, he's breaking into a military base with two accomplices, trying to snag a picture of Kazuki, and trying to find people antagonistic to Kazuki for the purposes of writing a "hit piece" on the teen protagonist.
• Red Baron: Known as "peeping photo specialist cameraman."
• Super-Senses: He uses magic to enhance his hearing and vision.
• The Unfettered: Such things as journalistic ethics, laws, and basic decency don't exist in his mind if it gets in the way of him getting a hot story.
• Ungrateful Bastard: Kazuki's accomplishments in the war with Yamato, and the threat of Loki, Russia, and China are all well known, well documented, and irrefutable. Yet, rather than being grateful that Yamato didn't burn his home down and conscript him into its army, he's killed, brutalized, or possessed by one of Loki's allied diva, or the fact that he's not being forced into a labor camp to clean up China's ecological damage until he drops, he's out to destroy Kazuki, just to sell newspapers.
• Would Hurt a Child: He gets euphoric on imagining ways he intends to destroy the character and reputation of Kazuki, a 17-year-old.
• Villain Has a Point: He's firmly convinced that all people in authority only care about their own security and well-being, and that is certainly true about most of the government officials that were showcased in earlier volumes. Doubly so for the politicians that became the government of Yamato. The fact that Kazuki is selflessly fighting for the welfare of the country as a whole without expecting or asking for a reward is completely inconceivable to him, and he snorts in disgust upon hearing it, despite all evidence pointing to Kazuki's virtues.

Anal Kirishima

A former member of the Knights Order, forced to retire after receiving a mental injury fighting Demon Beasts. She became a paparazzi after selling highly secret Knight Order information for money.

The only sentient Diva from the Cthulu Mythos, it is the true antagonist of Volume 3, corrupting Headmaster Otonashi and hijacking his plans for his own. His goal is to increase the power of the Cthulu Mythos and control Japan, and by extension, the Solomon’s Ars Goetia.

• Body Horror: Invokes this through Headmaster Otonashi, using his body to tear away the flesh and eyes of his face to reveal its own.
• Brown Note: Nyarlathotep's magic, Psycho Noise, creates an indescribably horrid sound that disrupts a summoning magicians casting and hinders the thought process.
• But for Me, It Was Tuesday: When Kaguya expresses a desire to avenge her father, Nyarlathotep's reaction is to think about how possessing and corrupting Mr. Otonashi was merely a "trivial" matter and that he's about to be killed over it.
• The Chessmaster: He did an elaborate Frame-Up by corrupting Headmaster Otonashi and tricking Kaguya and the student council into arresting Kazuki.
• The Corrupter: Nyarlathotep is the one who corrupted Headmaster Otonashi. He manages to do the same to all of Greek Mythology by possessing Regina, though he was converted into Typhon in the process.
• Crazy-Prepared: He left a fragment of himself to Kaya in case his main body is killed.
• Dark Is Evil: It's pitch black, and by its own admission, very evil indeed.
• Deader than Dead: The novel explicitly claims that his entire essence is completely destroyed, including in the Astrum, the collective consciousness of mankind. Subverted when a part of him still lives on in Maya, an elf under Kaya's custody.
• Disney Death: He's seemingly killed when Kazuki uses Diamond Dust against his own and finishes him off with Futsu-no-mitama, only for Kaya to later reveal that she kept a piece of him.
• Expy: He has a surprising number of similarities to Koro-sensei from Assassination Classroom. Including his manner of death.
• Fatal Flaw: Nyarlathotep's brainwashing and ambitions is what ultimately leads to his death.
• God of Evil: It claims to be one, and its intent to drive all of humanity into permanent madness is certainly not good.
• He Knows Too Much: States that the fate of any student that wandered too far into its underground lair was subjected to this and slaughter by his Quad Core magicians to keep its secret experiments hidden. He also inflicts this on Kazuki and co. after they themselves find out about the truth.
• Hijacked by Ganon: He pulls this this on Headmaster Otonashi by using his hypnotism of Kaguya to not only makes her the King of Solomon but also his new host body.
• I Know You Know I Know: It was well aware of being watched by Mio and Lotte in the dungeon under the school.
• Karmic Death: He's killed when Kazuki uses a level 10 spell from Koyuki, one of the girls he turned into an elf. Subverted when he separated a piece of himself as backup.
• Knight of Cerebus: The body count in the series was pretty low until this Eldritch Abomination showed up and revealed his horrifying experiments on elves, which are so bad that Kazuki can't save them without killing them, firmly cementing Magika as one of the darker harem stories.
• Manipulative Bastard: A dangerous antagonist in its own right, it prefers to manipulate, hypnotize, and brainwash people into doing its bidding and letting them think it's all their idea.
• Mind Manipulation: Nyarlathotep's magic, Sanity Down, hypnotizes and suppresses a target’s subconscious, putting them under his control.
• People Puppets: The end result of his "artificial elves" experiments.
• Playing with Syringes: While it didn't start the cruel experiments under the campus, it went out of its way to make them worse.
• Spell My Name With An S: Invoked. It gives numerous spellings and pronunciations for its own name, in-universe. It really doesn't care how you call it.
• The Starscream: Despite leaving a piece of himself with Loki and Kaya, he betrays them in Volume 13 and proceeds to launch his own designs for Ragnarok.
• Unwitting Pawn: Everything Nyarlathotep did at the start of the series was allowed to happen by Basileus.
• Walking Spoiler: You simply can't talk about the end of Volume 3 without talking about his involvement with Headmaster Otonashi and his machinations.
• Worf Had the Flu: Despite being a materialized Diva, who should be vastly stronger than anything the protagonists should be able to face at the point in the story, Koyuki notes that the lack of power behind the Cthulu Mythos weakens its power considerably, making it from an impossible enemy to one that can be defeated with relatively high difficulty.
• You Cannot Grasp the True Form: He attempts to invoke this. Thankfully, his powers were presumably weakened by lack of faith in the Cthulhu Mythos before it made his appearance.

Basileus Basileon (Lucifer)

The one who "awakened" magic and brought Divas to the world. Currently the "manager" of Ragnarok.

• Arch-Enemy: Kazuki certainly thinks so. Likewise, Basileus isn't too fond of the idea of Kazuki winning and refusing to assimilate humanity.
• Assimilation Plot: He is launching Ragnarok to produce one winner so that the whole world will be assimilated, if not rewritten, forcefully under one ideology, and he doesn't care which ideology it is as long as there is only one winner.
• Back from the Dead: At the end of volume 14, he is resurrected as a human, though he came back as an adult rather than a toddler.
• Bad Powers, Bad People: He's a powerful Diva with immense powers, which he can use to commit evil deeds.
• Big Bad: The definitive main antagonist of the series. Nyarlathotep and Ikousai were nothing more than pawns in his plans.
• Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: His politeness is to mask his sinister nature.
• Brought Down to Normal: In the epilogue of Volume 14, he makes an appearance as a normal human
• The Chessmaster: He's the one who set up the world of Magika and brought Divas to the world.
• Consummate Liar: As Lucifer, he's good at lying or at least hiding the truth. It gets to the point where the audience has trouble telling how sincere he is as a Knight Templar.
• Didn't See That Coming: He didn't consider that a guy with a harem would use Kasane and kill him.
• Disney Death: Even though he's seemingly killed by Kazuki, Lucifer manages to return as a human.
• Evil Brit: He's from Britain and is a villain to boot.
• Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: His arrogance blinds him to the idea that Kazuki would reject his totalitarian ideals.
• Evil Plan: He plans to use Ragnarok to assimilate the world under one ideology if there's a winner.
• Fatal Flaw: His over-confidence and actions to rid the world of humanity end up doing him in.
• Faux Affably Evil: He starts out rather quirky and polite by explaining his fashion sense to Kazuki, only to break a speaker for the hell of it. Afterwards, he tries to act friendly again while making it clear that he sees humans as nothing more than Unwitting Pawns.
• Final Boss: Towards the end of the series, he becomes the main threat to Japan and the last enemy Kazuki has to face.
• The Final Temptation: He gives only one chance for Kazuki to live in a world where everything will be assimilated. However, Kazuki realizes that it would play into Lucifer's hands, so he rejects the offer and wins Ragnarok.
• Graceful Loser: After returning as a human, he accepts going back to passively observing the world and congratulates Kazuki on winning with a human sword technique.
• Greater-Scope Villain: He is, by far, the biggest threat to Earth in the whole story.
• Half the Man He Used to Be: Kazuki cuts him in half with Kasane.
• Hoist by His Own Petard: Lucifer spends the series manipulating everything and planning an assimilation of humanity through using Ragnarok. When Kazuki Hayashizaki confronts him, it falls apart. He's tells him about what's best for humanity through Ragnarok. Kazuki, however, realizes that he would be playing into Lucifer's hands if he followed his lies. He wins Ragnarok and openly rejects his proposal, which infuriates Lucifer into attacking him. The kings put aside their differences and take the opportunity to help Kazuki kill him once and for all.
• Hope Spot: He acts like destroying Japan was his only means of defending himself against Kazuki, only to reveal that he can No-Sell attacks of divine origin.
• Humans Are Insects: He firmly launches a Take That! against the theory of evolution, making it clear that "humans came from monkeys" is just another mythology as far as he's concerned.
• It Amused Me: Combined with For the Evulz. He's launching Ragnarok, not caring who is the winner, as long as there is only one winner, purely for his own amusement. Though this becomes more ambiguous when he reveals that he intends to steal control no matter what.
• It's All About Me: Other people are just a means to an end for him.
• Karma Houdini Warranty: After years of getting away with bringing Divas to the world, he finally gets his comeuppance at the end of volume 14.
• Karmic Death: At the end of Volume 14, Lucifer's killed by Kazuki when he attempts to use Ragnarok to assimilate the world.
• Killer Game Master: Averted initially, since he's not allowed to directly harm anyone until his role as manager is over. Played straight in the final volume where he reveals he was going to claim victory in Ragnarok no matter which country wins.
• Knight Templar: It's ambiguous if he really believes his own claims about wanting the best for humanity. Ironically, he accuses all the other mythologies of being this trope.
• Lack of Empathy: By his own admission, he used "the philosopher's stone" as a placebo to awaken magic, knowing full well what would happen without caring about all the suffering to come, just so he could trigger Ragnarok.
• Light Is Not Good: Unsurprisingly, his true form as Lucifer is angelic.
• Made of Evil: Just one look convinces Kazuki of this. Volume 14 reveals that he's the Diva who represents humanity's despair towards the injustices and paradoxes of civilization.
• The Man Behind the Man: He's the one responsible for making the world of Magika the way it is, purely for the sake of launching Ragnarok.
• Manipulative Bastard: He's the puppetmaster behind the curtain, pulling the strings of all the characters in the series and it's evident throughout the series.
• Meaningful Name: Basileus is the Ancient Greek word for "ruler" and is the name for a Byzantine emperor, given Basileus's status as the Big Bad. His true name, Lucifer, means "bringer of light".
• Metaphorically True: Despite claiming to tell Kazuki the unvarnished truth, Kazuki could "smell lies" coming from him.
• Moral Myopia: Combined with Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist. He tries to claim he has the moral high ground over all mythologies and that he's an All-Loving Hero despite trying to destroy Japan just a few moments earlier.
• Names to Run Away from Really Fast: His real name brings to mind a certain Fallen Angel spent to live in Hell for eternity.
• Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Attacking Kazuki after the latter wins Ragnarok is what causes the other kings to use their spells help kill Basileus once and for all.
• No-Sell: He blocked Kazuki's iai with a wall of rainbow light. In the final battle, he's immune to summon magic in general, forcing Kazuki to rely on Kasane to win.
• Oh, Crap!: He has a moment of terror when Kazuki uses Kasane to cut him in half.
• One-Winged Angel: As Lucifer, his true form is an angel.
• Oxymoronic Being: By his own admission, he's both demon and angel, saint and sinner, Order and Chaos.
• Rules Lawyer: Ironically combined with Loophole Abuse. He made the rules of the "game" called Ragnarok, but put hidden loopholes in the system "for fairness."
• Satan: His description of himself is a perfect match for Lucifer, especially when he mentions Morning Star. The final volume confirms that he is Lucifer.
• Take That!: Combined with Biting-the-Hand Humor. Amusingly, in the middle of his Motive Rant, he actually mocks light novel tropes like Trapped in Another World and Battle Harem as shallow Wish-Fulfillment. He goes on to state that people's desire for these fantasies made them easy to tempt with the Philosopher's Stone.
• Utopia Justifies the Means: Subverted. At first, he argues that humanity needs mythology to stabilize their civilization, but he later admits that he doesn't care if Order or Chaos wins as long as humans are controlled by Divas. Zigzagged in that he never intended for anyone including the Chaos divas to win, since he plans on invalidating their victory to control humanity by himself.
• Villain Has a Point: Like Regina, he points out that humanity's political flaws and that even good people unknowingly benefit from the suffering of the less fortunate.
• Villainous Breakdown: Lucifer drops his Faux Affably Evil facade when Kazuki wins Ragnarok and rejects his Totalitarian Utilitarian ideals. Lucifer then proceeds to lose his composure as Kazuki overcomes his attacks during their final battle, especially when all the other kings put aside their differences to lend the protagonist their spells.

• Abduction Is Love: She kidnaps Lotte in order to "recruit" Prometheus back to the Roman pantheon.
• Animal Motif: Not only is her magical dress swan-themed. She can transform into one, and she's just as vicious as the real animal.
• Aristocrats Are Evil: Both she and Zeus share this. They think being equal partners with a summoner is a sickening disgrace, worse, they think it's their absolute right to rule those physically "inferior" to themselves.
• Asskicking Leads to Leadership: She doesn't think a country without a king that absolutely brutalizes the populace into worshiping him is worthy of existing.
• Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: She ends up killing Hrotsvit after the latter turns on her.
• Blue-and-Orange Morality: She believes in subjugating humanity for the sake of ensuring they don't destroy nature and themselves.
• The Dark Side Will Make You Forget: Fusing with Nyarlathotep causes her to go from an order-seeking Knight Templar to an Omnicidal Maniac.
• Despotism Justifies the Means: She comes to the conclusion that the only thing that matters is being in charge, the means to accomplish this goal don't matter in the slightest.
• Dirty Coward: For all her talk about physical and moral superiority, pride, bravado, elegance, and dignity, she prefers to hide behind her subordinates, wiping them out in waves, purely to protect herself, flees at the first sign of a real struggle, and attacks from ambush after using her allies as bait.
• Disproportionate Retribution: She's very quick to suggest execution as a response to any slight against her, including but not limited to being served bad food.
• Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Her seemingly sole redeeming quality that isn't related to her religion is her friendship with Vera.
• Even Evil Has Standards:
  • Played with, thanks to her Blue-and-Orange Morality. Her extreme views are in service of protecting nature, so she takes great offense at Ilyailiya's constant spamming of nuclear spells, which causes radiation poisoning.
  • Similarly, her religion compels her to give Hrotsvit a proper burial, despite hating the latter for betraying her.
• Everybody Loves Zeus: Averted with extreme prejudice. Thanks to Zeus's influence, Regina is the Knight Templar dictator of Italia and she's malicious enough to threaten to rape Lotte in her swan form.
• Faking the Dead: After losing to Loki's alliance and getting betrayed by Hrotsvit, Regina decides to enact this trope and have her second-in-command pretend to succeed her, with the intention of catching the other kings by surprise and killing them.
• Fantastic Racism: She believes anyone who doesn't have magic power deserves to be enslaved.
• Hijacking Cthulhu: An almost literal example. After letting Nyarlathotep possess her, she converts him into Typhon, a similar deity in Greek Mythology. This is also downplayed, since her sanity is pretty much destroyed by the fusion too.
• Humans Are Insects: Genuinely believes that the rest of the world exists only to serve and obey her. Everything else is a despicable fantasy.
• Hypocrite: One thing is certain. She can not stand the taste of her own medicine. When she finds herself on the wrong end of her Social Darwinism philosophy, she immediately throws her pride, courage, and what few virtues she has right out the window and employs the "despicable tricks of the weak" for which she condemns Kazuki and still declares herself the herald of righteousness. She further cements this by letting Nyarlathotep, a Chaos diva, possess her despite her usual opposition to Chaos in general.
• Knight Templar: Is absolutely disgusted with Japan, technology, and democracy, in general, and Kazuki, in particular, because the secular nature of the country and Kazuki don't mete up to her sense of aesthetics. While she might have a point about the downsides of technology and democracy, her alternative plan goes way too far in the other direction by treating humans as cattle.
• Moral Myopia: Calling the beliefs of everyone else a "fantasy?" That's just fine. Saying that "the will of god" determines who should rule and who is a slave a fantasy? This Is Unforgivable!.
• Nature Lover: A Knight Templar example of one.
• Never My Fault: Every nasty thing she's done? "All the will of god." She's quite pissed when Lotte calls her out on it.
• No-Sell: Her Resist skills are enough to keep Karin's anti-barrier techniques from scratching her
• Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: Of the Motive Decay variety. Losing to Loki's alliance, losing Vera, and getting cornered by Kazuki's alliance causes Regina to fuse with Nyarlathotep just to "win" the war, despite how doing so means she'll no longer be sane enough to accomplish her original goals.
• Pride: According to Arthur, Regina has the biggest ego of all of humanity. This is very likely considering her sheer desire to win converted Nyarlathotep into a similar Greek God.
• Social Darwinist: The only truth of the world is that the wealthy and powerful control and manage the weaker and powerless, everything else is a fantasy that deserves to be brutally struck down.
• Suicidal Cosmic Temper Tantrum: When it looks like victory for Italia is in doubt, or out of reach, she fuses with Nyarlathotep to create Typhon and try to destroy all of creation.
• Sunk Cost Fallacy: She throws away whatever few standards she has left because she thinks losing means betraying her fallen comrades, including Vera. This goes to the point where she willingly hands over Greek mythology to the Chaos side.

Although Lotte's magic shows that her mind is functioning properly, and she's recording new memories perfectly fine, what happened in her past is a complete mystery to everyone, including herself.
• Cheerful Child: She greatly enjoys being in the company of Kazuki's harem. She's surprisingly happy and upbeat considering the circumstances during which she was found and rescued.
• Children Are Innocent: In contrast to Hel, she's a sweet, sensitive, and very well-behaved child, the dream of any expecting parent.
• Dead All Along: She was already killed by the American Indian soldiers on the ship, but somehow managed to temporarily stay alive and uncorrupted through her will to live as a free person.
• Determinator: Her desire to live as neither a slave or part of the Great Spirit allows her to cheat death for some time and assert her identity after being absorbed into the Spirit.
• Disappears into Light: Once she gets her "battery" back, she remembers her past and disappears while thanking Kazuki and Kaguya for caring for her.
• Fridge Horror: In-universe. Kazuki shudders at the implications of a child without visible brain damage having literally no memory of her life prior to meeting him, including in the Astrum where forgotten memories reside, especially considering his experience with Yumeno.
• Happily Adopted: After Kaguya named her "Stella" she happily acknowledges Kaguya as "Momma" and Kazuki as "Papa." Nobody seems to mind.
• Hijacking Cthulhu: In a world where people are constantly in danger of being possessed by rogue divas, Stella stands out by enacting this trope on the chief diva of Indian Mythology.
• Meaningful Name: In-universe. "Stella" means star, and not only does she shine like one, but being guided by starlight is how they found her.
• Not Too Dead to Save the Day: Despite dying a second time, Stella saves Kazuki from Eimi's Mind Rape and allows him to use the Great Spirit's strongest spell.
• Sleep Cute: She's discovered sleeping peacefully once the Haunted Ground is defeated, blissfully unaware in the ship's hold. She was naturally horrified upon being awakened until she came aboard Kazuki's ship and realized she's in good hands.
• Sole Survivor: The Haunted Ground from which she was rescued was full of dead or dying slaves, too far gone for Mio's magic to aid. She's the only one found alive.
• The Power of Love: See the Not Too Dead to Save the Day entry above. Kazuki was able to use the Great Spirit's strongest spell without needing to take the "shortcut" with Stella due to her love for her Papa, her positivity level being maxed out at 200, the strongest in the series thus far. Note that this is supposedly beyond extremely difficult.

• Human Resources: It is strongly implied in volume 10 that he runs a facility that forcefully extracts people's magical ability to store into batteries that powers North America's technology and prosperity.
• Laughing Mad: While fighting with Kazuki and crew, he's laughing like a lunatic.
• More than Mind Control: He uses some form of hypnosis that allows him to simply take those he enslaves "willingly" without any resistance. Said slaves can walk for miles without complaining about fatigue or pain, nor collapsing from exhaustion. He's also on the receiving end of this tropes from his Diva since he admits that he committed his crimes out of a lust for power and identity.
• Politically Incorrect Villain: In a conversation with Clark, he admits part of his motivation was revenge on whites.
• Reluctant Psycho: He used to have some qualms about being possessed by a Chaos Diva, but like Kaya, his mind eventually fell too far to show any concern about his insanity.
• Slavery Is a Special Kind of Evil: He's a slave trader, selling "luxury" goods to the "American Indian" population in exchange for slaves, as well as taking slaves from those who can't pay their ever-growing taxes in "the land of the free."
• Unskilled, but Strong: He relies entirely on his mechanical armor to automatically move his body for melee combat. Once he loses his human shields, his auto-pilot method of fighting becomes useless against Kazuki.

• Anti-Villain: Played with. Clark feels more guilt over her actions than most of the other antagonists, who tend to be either Knight Templar kings or Ax-Crazy divas, to the point where she pulls a Heel–Face Turn. Plus, part of the reason she's resorting to such extreme methods is because she wants to save her sister, in contrast to the other kings who seem to have little reason for their ideology other than blindly following their divas' orders. On the flip-side, her brand of slavery is arguably one of the most horrific in comparison to other slave systems, if not the most horrific.
• Arc Villain Ensemble: The main antagonist of Volumes 10 and 11, alongside Eimi.
• Bad Boss: Despite her Heel–Face Turn she's still physically, verbally, and emotionally abusive to her loyal subordinates, especially if they bring unwelcome news, like the emergence of Atlantis.
• Bifauxnen: Thanks to her first name and appearance, one would have to read the novel to be sure of this trope.
• Big Damn Heroes: When Lucifer tries to sink Japan with a tsunami, she calls Japan's government to tell them that mages from all the countries are rushing in to save them.
• Cast from Money: While she's powerful when actually fighting, doing so will consume America's wealth, which is why she arranges for Kazuki's side to do most of the fighting against the Indians and only fights him when he's weakened by Jeremy.
• Death Seeker: She walks right into the tendrils/roots of "Medicine Wheel" after being defeated by Kazuki and seeing Eimi marching on Los Angeles. She was suitably cross when Jeremy perfomed a Heroic Sacrifice and Kazuki forced her to live.
• Enemy Mine: Kazuki teams up with her to take out the Indian side first, but plans to overthrow her later in order to stop America's slavery system.
• Heel–Face Turn: After Eimi's defeat, Clark officially forms an alliance with Japan and seems to have given up on her ruthless slavery system.
• Hypocrite: She wants to avenge Red's death at Kazuki's hands, despite the fact that she never bothered to save him from his insanity and subjected him a Fate Worse than Death because his experiments were convenient for her slave system.
• I Know You Know I Know: Both she and Kazuki know that neither of their agendas is a secret to the other, so they're forced to wait for an opportunity to betray each other. Clark manages to trick him first by hiding her brainwashed subordinates within the Indian chiefs and lying about the enemy's numbers, which causes Kazuki's side to wear themselves out more than her Numbers.
• Knight Templar Big Brother: Before Eimi became South America's king, Clark resorted to theft to pay for her tuition and hopefully improve her standing. Unfortunately, Clark's willingness to do anything for that goal only scared Eimi and caused her to join a death cult as a form of escapism. And this event only causes Clark to become a ruthless king in order to win the war against South America and free Eimi from Indian Mythology.
• One-Winged Angel: She transforms into something similar to a Demon Beast and gains the ability to control magnetism. Luckily for Kazuki, this doesn't last long because Clark can only maintain this form while discarding most of her humanity, which she failed to do because her opponent keeps provoking her by debating her ideology.
• Outgambitted: She manages to outwit Kazuki and create an opportunity for Jeremy to seal most of his powers. The only reason he wins against her is because he still had the help of Amaterasu's Power of Harmony and Japan's sacred treasures. Clark is then on the receiving end when Eimi reveals that she's not a Stationary Boss and proceeds to attack Las Vegas when both Clark and Kazuki are tired from fighting.
• Put on a Bus: Thanks to all the damage done to North America in Volume 11, she doesn't have the power or resources to participate in the Atlantis battle royale.
• Redemption Equals Life: She is forced to live to atone for her sins during the resolution of Volume 11.
• Reformed, but Not Tamed: She's still a Jerkass to her subordinates after her Heel–Face Turn.

• Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Played with. While most of her people listen to her "advice" because she's one of their most powerful summoners, her nation is a communal anarchy with no official government.
• Blue-and-Orange Morality: Views human lives no differently than the lives of any animal, wild or tame, and has outright banned the concept of personal property. Worse yet, children are considered communal property, not citizens, and should have no more filial duty to their parents than to any other adult in the tribe.
• Cannot Tell a Lie: She will answer any question posed to her honestly, hiding nothing. Still, be sure to confirm your conclusions because she's all too happy to let you come to the wrong conclusion if it serves her interests.
• Co-Dragons: She's one of several chiefs, all of whom show up to attack Las Vegas in Volume 11. Again, this is played with due to the way South America's society works.
• Fusion Dance: Combined with One-Winged Angel. She and the other chiefs fuse into a Demon Beast when Kazuki's side gains the upper hand. Unlike Clark, they have a much easier time maintaining the form due to viewing humans as no more special than other life, allowing them to abandon their humanity.
• Lack of Empathy: When it is pointed out that the sudden, wanton and indiscriminate destruction of all technology would result in countless deaths and untold suffering, her only response is that it is simply a matter of time until people and Nature come into balance again, on their own.
• Large and in Charge: Inverted. She's big and is a powerful chieftain in South America, but the king is the rather diminutive Eimi. Also played with due to her country's lack of linear hierarchy.
• Moral Myopia: Calls the people of North (West) America "Black Hearted" by having a slave system yet sees nothing wrong with having her people taken as slaves by that same system.
• Nature Lover: She's such an extreme Knight Templar in this that Regina of Italia looks reasonable by comparison.
• The Needs of the Many: Allows her tribe's children to be taken into slavery in exchange for the food and medicine that the rest of her people need. In addition, while she "offers" slaves captured from ships on the high-seas welcome into her tribe, she won't hesitate to kill them if there's not enough food to go around. Simply letting them go their own way is never an option.

• Arc Villain Ensemble: The main antagonist of Volumes 10 and 11, alongside Clark.
• Assimilation Plot: The Great Spirit assimilates everyone who dies and "returns to nature", in contrast to China's Dragon, who wants to turn humanity into a living hive mind.
• Assimilation Backfire: The Great Spirit absorbs Stella, who still has enough willpower to hijack the Spirit when Medicine Wheel tries to Mind Rape Kazuki. She then uses her 200 PL to allow Kazuki to use the Great Spirit's ultimate spell.
• Brought Down to Normal: According to the epilogue, the Great Spirit has been completely eliminated, causing Eimi to become a normal human again.
• Freudian Excuse: Seeing her older sister become obsessed with gaining power in society motivates her to end Social Darwinism by killing everyone.
• I Am Not Left-Handed: She tricks North America into thinking that she's immobile, and then attacks Las Vegas when their guard is down.
• Mercy Kill: Invoked. She believes death is the only way for humanity to escape from the current dog-eat-dog world.
• Mind Rape: When Kazuki and Arthur corner her, she forces both of them into an illusion where they're brutally mutilated and tortured until they give in to her ideology of death.
• Nature Is Not Nice: When she says she wants to return people to nature, what she means is that death is acceptable and encouraged because everyone will be assimilated into the Great Spirit. Not to mention that she can essentially turn Wakan Tanka into a mobile battle fortress.
• Start X to Stop X: Her goal is to end the persecution of the weak by sacrificing humanity to the Great Spirit, but abandoned Indian children seem to be the most frequent victims of her ideology. Her belief in "returning to nature" as a good thing means she sees nothing wrong with this.
• Stationary Boss: Subverted with extreme prejudice. The very forest she's attached to is both mobile and capable of leveling cities.
• When Trees Attack: She's stuck in a tree, so she gets around this by making the entire forest of Wakan Tanka (and random wildlife) around her move and attack.
