Main Characters
Lanterne de Fantasmagorie
Fantie for short. A lantern imbued with a soul, used to navigate the Labyrinth of Galleria with the aid of puppet soldiers.
- Dimensional Traveler: The spirit within the lantern is described as a being not as tied down to time and space as normal people are. It's this that makes Madame Marta realize that Fantie has been experiencing the story anachronistically, and how the spirit is "familiar" with Nachiroux's mother, who is implied to be Mezzaluca from ''Refrain''.
- Silent Snarker: Much like Tractie before it, it has its own unique expressions and reactions to situations which can be determined by the player.
Margeret “Eureka” de Soleil
Voiced by: Hiyori Kono (Japanese), Savanna Menzel (English)
A girl who arrives at Galleria Manor following a job request, acting as the main POV for the story.- Barrier Maiden: Her and Eureu were born at the same time, coincidentally at the exact same time Alluna and Astella split into individual worlds. Her death is what brings about the Discordance.
- Decoy Protagonist: Eureka is the point of view character during the first Alluna section of the game, which only lasts about a few hours before Nachiroux takes center stage in Astella.
- Driven to Suicide: In the original Alluna timeline during the revolution, which led to it's destruction from the Discordance. Later subverted when Marta!Nachi gives her the elixir of immortality prior to her attempt.
- Do Not Call Me "Paul": Prefers to be called Eureka rather than Margeret. Justified since it was her mother who gave her the idea for the nickname in the first place.
- "End of the World" Special: She and Nachiroux create a new utopian world called Uru in the game's epilogue where they both rule as goddesses.
- Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: Eureka is forced to do this combined with Fighting Your Friend to help The Nameless Witch regain her memories as Nachiroux.
- I Will Wait for You: She vows that she will search for Nachiroux after she goes missing upon Uru's completion however long it takes her. Whether she succeeded or not is open for interpretation.
- Meaningful Rename: The nickname "Eureka" comes from a compliment her mother gave her praising her piano playing prior to her parents divorcing.
Nachiroux Colbert
Voiced by: Rika Kinugawa (Japanese), Cat Thomas (English)
A witch who was found hiding inside Galleria Manor. She becomes the main protagonist in the Alstella portion of the game.- A Little Bit Beastly: Gains bird-like wings and talons upon her transformation into The Nameless Witch.
- All Crimes Are Equal: Nachiroux ends up being brought into the Moon Society as a Boxed Crook to be sent on a dangerous mission to Alluna. Her crime? Using harmless magic to produce a small fireworks show in her room. She had one predecessor in the same situation, Geaux. Their crime? An incredibly long list of offenses including being a serial rapist and murderer. Her "crime" was mostly just an excuse to make use of her given that, under most normal circumstances, only members of the World Tree Tribe have the ability to move between worlds.
- Crash in Through the Ceiling: How she and Eureka meet after being startled by a cat during a rather... uh.. ''private moment'' in the attic.
- Doorstop Baby: Or rather, bridge baby. Nina and her father find baby Nachiroux when investigating a falling star that fell nearby.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: Cecilia has been routinely erasing her memories to manipulate her.
- Locked into Strangeness: Her hair wasn't always red. When Nina first found her as a baby she was blonde, but their physical contact somehow caused her hair to instantly and permanently change.
- Orphan's Plot Trinket: Her spellbook written by "Pol". It was actually written by her biological mother and was addressed to "Polka", Nachiroux's assigned name at birth.
- Prematurely Grey-Haired: Her hair begins to gray when overexerting her magic in the story. It becomes fully gray once Cecilia completely erases her memories, and stays that way until her senior years.
- Sure, Let's Go with That: Her response after being discovered as a witch because she was riding a broom during her above crashing in.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: She vanishes after the creation of Uru, leaving her ultimate fate unknown.
- You Are Worth Hell: Everything she does is for the sake of getting money for her mother... and eventually, for the sake of protecting Eureka and Alluna. It's for this reason that Nachiroux chooses to stay behind in what becomes the Grand Cathedral so Eureka can live happily in the old world.
Madame Marta
Voiced by: Kyo Yaoya (Japanese), Shelley Calene-Black (English)
The witch employed by Count Bismont to search for the curio. She's actually the original Nachiroux- The Gadfly: Has a tendency to playfully tease Eureka and Bismont.
- The Hero Dies: After many, many hours and an entire lifetime spent with the original Nachiroux, her old age finally catches up with her and she passes after transferring her memories to the new Alluna's Nachiroux, finally happy with herself.
Pericot
Voiced by: Ayaka Takamura (Japanese), Juliet Simmons (English)
Madame Marta’s granddaughter, who Eureka meets shortly after arriving at Galleria Manor. She has poor manners and tends to headbutt people she doesn't like. She's actually a bisque doll animated through magic who assists Madame Marta.- A Pig Named "Porkchop": Gives Eureka's pet bird the name Chickenmeat, much to the poor bird's horror.
- Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Gets distracted very easily.
- But Now I Must Go: She chooses to depart with Cecilia at the end of the game. It's implied that she feels a kinship with her real mother, with Cecilia realizing the same.
- Please Wake Up: She doesn't quite understand the concept of death at first when Eureka's pet bird dies. She later gains some understanding and bursts into tears when Marta!Nachi "stops moving".
Citizens of Alluna
Count Bismont
Voiced by: Shuhei Iwase (Japanese), Blake Weir (English)
The owner of Galleria Manor who tasks Madame Marta and Eureka with retrieving the Curio D'Art from the Labyrinth.- Asshole Victim: After suffering Sanity Slippage out of jealousy from Marquis de Galleria favoring his wife's talent over his, he regularly beat her to the point of Murder-Suicide. As a final middle finger from her, his soul (or what's left of it) is transferred into multiple puppets resembling his former self.
- Badly Battered Babysitter: On the receiving end of this by Prince Hubert.
- Bad People Abuse Animals: Orders his staff to kill any and all cats on sight.
- Child Hater: Absolutely despises children as they damage artwork in his claims. He's also not a fan of Prince Hubert either for that matter.
- Crazy Jealous Guy: Falsely accuses Cecilia of having an affair with Marquis de Galleria in exchange for her artwork.
- Distracted by the Sexy: Has a brief one when Queen Luvalier flirts with him complete with Luminescent Blush.
- Fatal Flaw:
- Impatience. His impatience causes him to completely ignore information and warnings from Marta and those around him, especially regarding the Curios. At one point, Marta warns him not to touch one of the Curios which will render him infertile. Given he's a puppet, it probably wouldn't have done any lasting damage anyway.
- Greed. His desire to make money when he was alive drove him to attempt to murder his wife in a jealous rage when she proved to be the better artist, a trait he inherited in his new unlife in the form of collecting the Curios.
- Literal Split Personality: His Bismont and Bisto persona become two completely different individuals in the Uru epilogue.
- Mad Artist: Anger, jealousy and perfectionist anxiety made him spiral HARD into insanity and drove him to violence. He still retains this trait as his Uru!Bisto counterpart, but to a lesser degree.
- No-Sell: When Hubert demands Nachiroux prove she's a witch, she gives Bismont a youth potion like what she did with Luvalier. It has absolutely no effect on him since he's really a puppet.
- Was Once a Man: In life, he was a painter named Bisto Maldeur who worked for Marquis Galleria and Cecilia's husband.
Konyac
Voiced by:
- The Reveal: He isn't always actually Konyac, but rather Marc, Nachiroux's childhood friend and the younger brother of Coral-Sallie, a Moon Society witch, who possessed him to try and stop the Discordance in Alluna. Keen eyed players will be able to tell when he's Konyac and when he's Marc by the color of his eyes which seems to randomly shift between blue and brown on your first time through. Marc is in control when the eyes are blue.
Toba
Voiced by: Aido Okubo (Japanese), Christie Guidry (English)
The housekeeper of Galleria Manor.- Happily Married: To Konyac.
- Primal Scene: Gets caught in the act by Nachiroux and Eureka to the former's horror. Things get REALLY awkward when Eureka reveals that not only are the two okay with their intrusion, they have invited Eureka to join them on a few occasions.
- The Reveal: She isn't always actually Toba, but rather Coral-Sallie, a Moon Society witch and elder sister of Nachiroux's childhood friend Marc who possessed Toba to try and stop the Discordance in Alluna. Keen eyed players will be able to tell when she's Toba and when she's Coral-Sallie by the presence of pink earrings that seem to randomly appear and disappear on your first time through, which indicate the latter.
- Secret Relationship: She tries to keep her relationship with Konyac private from her coworkers and employer but they're not fooling anyone.
Patch
Voiced by: Megumi Kawano (Japanese), Brittney Karbowski (English)
A young boy who often sneaks around Galleria Manor with his friend Romal, causing trouble for Toba.- Bratty Half-Pint: Boy, is he ever. He has no qualms about giving Eureka and Nachiroux a hard time, making comments about their body and bullying poor Pericot and his friend Romal. Probably justified in that he's a war orphan.
- Happily Adopted: By Toba and Konyac in the game's epilogue.
- Pauper Patches: Wears a tattered pair of overalls.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red oni to Romal's blue oni.
- Toxic Friend Influence: Both the victim of this and the perpetrator. While Patch was no saint before, Hans' "Reason You Suck" Speech is what pushes the boy over the edge.
- Those Two Guys: With his friend Romal. The two are rarely seen apart.
Hubert
Voiced by:
- Defrosting the Ice Queen: He drops the prideful persona around Eureka in secret and comes out to her.
- Easy Sex Change: Gets his wish of having the body he always wanted thanks to Nachiroux's potion. It's also implied he was made biologically male by Goddess!Nachiroux and Eureka in the epilogue.
- Prince Charmless: He is a rude, arrogant little snot who mistreats almost everyone around him.
- Royal Brat: Good Lord. Throws tantrums when he doesn't get his way, coldly rejects Eureka's homemade cooking, threatens to rape and/or execute Eureka and Nachiroux if they don't do things exactly as he wishes, chronically belittles the both of them and roughly forces Bismont to play with him. He completely loses this personality trait and is a lot more humble in the epilogue.
- Trans Tribulations: He is biologically female who was Raised as the Opposite Gender by parents who really wanted a male heir. This has caused an immense amount of stress on the boy as he struggles with gender dysphoria and questioning his sexuality as well.
Queen-Consort Luvalier Est de Blanche
Voiced by:
- Age Insecurity: Is very sensitive about her age and is willing to do whatever it takes to restore her youth.
- Aristocrats Are Evil: She and her head maid Kay ate the corpse of a young noble boy they stumbled upon in a desperate attempt to restore their youth. When they didn't actually get any younger, Luvalier decided the problem was she hadn't eaten enough boys. When the truth comes out, the bloodied ghost of their first victim briefly appears to point at them, implying they've been cursed for the act.
- Christmas Cake: Her age and wrinkles is quite a sore spot for her as the king favors the younger, more beautiful princess Henrietta for position as queen. This envy has driven her to look for more... drastic measures to restore her youth.
- Cleavage Window: Her dress just barely exposes her assets to the world... Not that anyone ever comments on this, mind you.
- Fatal Flaw:
- Vanity. Her desire to be beautiful and one-up the competition to the throne drove her to cannibalism.
- Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The Foolish Sibling to Hans' Responsible Sibling in the Uru timeline.
- Fountain of Youth: Subverted. She didn't actually become a young woman; Marta just removed her wrinkles through magic.
- Irony: She becomes the sister of Hans, the very man who killed her, in the Uru timeline epilogue.
- Off with Her Head!: How she dies during the revolution. Her severed head is kept as a Creepy Souvenir by Hans.
- Scenery Censor: During a few scenes where she's naked, her breasts are barely covered by the fan she's holding and her Godiva Hair.
- Shameless Fanservice Girl: Casually flirts with Bismont, tries to hook her maid Kay up with a guard and expresses disappointment at the thought that Bismont likely doesn't wanna bed her.
- Sleeps in the Nude: Wears nothing but a corset to bed, which Kay gets rather flustered about.
- Small Role, Big Impact: All things considered, her presence doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of the story. However, the news of her eating a child hitting the city is what spurs the revolution into high gear, leading to the execution/suicide of Eureka and the creation of the Discordance in Alluna.
Citizens of Alstella
Nina Colbert
Voiced by: Fumino Hase (Japanese), Carli Mosier (English)
- Ambiguous Situation: In the Grand Finale Ending we never do get to see what became of her. Specifically, we don't know if Nachiroux respected her mother's wish to not "fix" her hideous appearance with magic or not when remaking the world as Uru, as Nina remains offscreen the entire time.
- Dead All Along: She has been dead for a while from ash-affliction during Nachiroux's time in Alluna and was replaced with a puppet of her by Ghilruda to spy on the girl. Cecilia takes advantage of this to trick Nachiroux into giving her the last Curio.
- Definitely Just a Cold: Nachiroux discovers a drawer full of positive ash-affliction tests her mother kept hidden from her much to her horror. Up until that point, Nina has been insisting she was just exhausted from work.
- Dying Declaration of Love: Gives a heartbreaking one to Nachiroux when her puppet form is destroyed.
- Gonk: Her rather homely features have her finding issues with getting a well-paying job and a man to marry. It also gives a lot of woe to Nachiroux, who was bullied for having an ugly mom and told she'd grow up to look like her.
- The Grotesque: Nina is just about the furthest you could be from anything called attractive, and there's no real end to the amount of crap she gets for it. Despite this, the woman is practically a saint who would do anything for her daughter including fighting the Moon Society over sending Nachiroux on a near suicide mission to Alluna and choosing to die rather than continue to be used by Cecilia in her attempts to manipulate Nachiroux.
- Incurable Cough of Death: Starts suffering this when she comes down with ash-affliction.
- Too Good for This Sinful Earth: Was nothing short of a kind and loving mother who tragically met her demise by ash-affliction. Her death left her adoptive daughter bitterly sobbing with Parting-Words Regret.
The Moon Society
Eureu
Voiced by: Hiyori Kono (Japanese), Savanna Menzel (English)
The leader of the Moon Society.- Deadpan Snarker: Has shades of this with Brutal Honesty.
- Emotional Regression: Mentally regresses to that of a small child when her memories are erased by Cecilia.
- Identical Stranger: To Eureka, to whom she is the counterpart of in Astella.
- Like Mother, Like Daughter: Her mother was an oracle like she was.
- Literal Split Personality: Becomes her own person in the epilogue.
- Really 700 Years Old: She looks like a child, but she's roughly 117 years old.
Kitcat
Voiced by: Aiko Okubo (Japanese), Elissa Cuellar (English)
- Animal Motifs: Cats, more specifically black ones. She has yellow slit-eyes resembling a cat's, lost her original body trying to save a black cat from being run over, tends to possess black cats and eventually comes to own a black cat herself in the Uru timeline.
- Bifauxnen: She's a very attractive young woman with a boyish haircut and nice suit.
- Body Surf: The secret behind her Resurrective Immortality. She has supposedly been doing this since CHILDHOOD if you believe Eureu's friend from the orphanage who was struck and killed by a horse carriage chasing after a black cat was her.
- Immortality Hurts: She is by no means 100% immortal, but she can still feel the pain of death.
- Literal Split Personality: Between her and the black cat she possessed in the epilogue. The cat is now her childhood pet named Christopher.
- The Nicknamer: Has a habit of giving nicknames to friends, coworkers and people she respects like "Maggie" for Eureu, "Roux" for Nachiroux, "Ghil" for Ghilruda, "Clariss" for Clarisstia and so on.
- Not Quite Dead: She is initially believed to have been Killed Off for Real by Ghilruda's manania soldiers only to reveal she has transferred her soul into the body of a black cat. Kitcat then reveals she learned this spell from a "certain someone", heavily implied to be Mezzaluca from ''Refrain''.
- Too Kinky to Torture: After she allows herself to be kidnapped to save Doris from masked soldiers, she seems a little too interested in their interrogation methods.
Clarisstia
Voiced by: Natsue Sasamoto (Japanese), Christina Kelly (English)
- Can't Hold Her Liquor: By her coworkers' admission, she has a tendency to immediately puke the moment she drowns a bottle.
- Dynamic Entry: Her appearance is always heralded by a large crackle of lightning.
- Red Baron: Her reputation as the "Witch of Ivory Thunder" is well-earned.
- Sink or Swim Mentor: She never takes in apprentices, but those she does are put through the Training from Hell. Nachiroux learns this the hard way.
- Shock and Awe: Has the power of lightning-based magic.
- Taking You with Me: Attempts this with Geux. It doesn't work.
Nelliru
Voiced by: Rika Momokawa (Japanese), Holly Segarra (English)
- Deadpan Snarker: Almost the entirety of her dialogue oozes with this.
- Mama Bear: Cares very deeply about her children and tries to get her Roaring Rampage of Revenge against Geux after he kills them. Unfortunately, it ends in her demise.
- Man on Fire: How she meets her end by Geux. The players are treated to the lovely sound of her anguished screams as she dies. Yeesh...
- Older Than They Look: She looks like a 14 year old girl, but she's actually a full-grown adult with three children.Nelliru: Also, you're speaking to me like I'm one of your school pals, but I'm 36 years old, I'll have you know.
- They Call Him "Sword": Her epithet is The Rusted Nail Witch after the nails she uses to fight with.
Ghilruda
Voiced by: Yurina Furukawa (Japanese), Olivia Swasey (English)
- Eyes Out of Sight: We never get to see Ghilruda's eyes, but they are presumably black if her clone Faus is any indication.
- Fatal Flaw: Narcissism. Her main goal in life is to amass a harem of herself to indulge in a selfcestuous lesbian orgy until the world comes to its end. She sells out the Moon Society, and by extension all of Alstella, to Cecilia in order to learn how to create a perfect clone of herself.
Mirage
Voiced by: Junko Masuda (Japanese), Christine Auten (English)
- Astral Projection: The Mirage we see is actually an astral projection sent to Alstella on behalf of Nachiroux's biological mother.
- Meaningful Name: Her physical body isn't here. She herself is essentially a mirage of sorts.
- Mr. Exposition: She explains the ins and out of the Society as well as the truth behind Nachiroux's biological mom.
- Parental Substitute: Kept a very close eye on Nachiroux in her real mom's absence and regularly sent messages back and forth to her.
Doris
Voiced by: Sana Hoshimori (Japanese), Natalie Rial (English)
- Baby Of The Bunch: The youngest witch in The Moon Society, being only a mere child.
- Death of a Child: Her death weighs heavily on the surviving witches of the Society.
- We Hardly Knew Ye: She gets very little screentime before being Killed Offscreen by Geux.
Myxomycete Lan
- Cruel and Unusual Death: Is violently raped and burned alive by Geux. Her corpse was so badly mangled, the only way anyone could tell it was her was crystallized mana in her entrails.
- The Ghost: She is only ever mentioned by name and is never seen on screen.
- Sacrificial Lamb: Barely gets so much of a passing mention before being Killed Offscreen.
- We Hardly Knew Ye: Survives only long enough to show just how dangerous Geux really is.
Bloody Scarlet
Voiced by:
- Blood Magic: Her method of attacking.
- Foregone Conclusion: Given Nachiroux, Kitcat and Eureu are among the sole surviving witches of the Moon Society after Ghilruda, Geux and Cecilia all but wipe them out in the Alstella timeline, it's safe to say she doesn't survive her attempt to take Ceci down with her.
- The Voice: We only ever hear her voice and she's never seen on screen.
- We Hardly Knew Ye: Gets Killed Offscreen by Cecilia.
Cecilia Kamie Tortelier
Voiced by: Mie Sonozaki (Japanese), Katelyn Barr (English)
A woman who strikes a deal with Nachiroux, giving her money in exchange for items with a high concentration of mana.- The Dark Side Will Make You Forget: In her case though, it's more so forgetting driving her to evil than the other way around. Sealing away memories relating to her miscarried children including the desire to make Galleria a tomb for them leaves her with nothing but a desire to destroy Alluna and Alstella as all that remained was her rage.
- Dimensional Traveler: A member of the World Tree Tribe, meaning she is allowed to travel between worlds freely. During one of these flights, a cradle smacked her in the face, sending her crashing into Alluna.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: Her primary form of magic. Usually used to cover her tracks and get out of situations, she can also use it in the middle of a fight to make her opponent forget what's going on in the first place.
- Love Makes You Evil: The grief of losing her unborn children drove her to erase her own memories in despair and forget her original goal of ensuring her children rest in peace.
- Mysterious Benefactor: A rather enigmatic woman who, as far as Nachiroux knows, is just looking to purchase Curios for large amounts of money that she desperately needs.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Says this almost word for word when she regains her repressed memories and realizes what her true goal was.
- Redemption Equals Death: Sacrifices herself to seal away the Discordance once and for all and points Eureka to an ally of hers to help save the world.
- Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: God, where to begin? Wakes up covered in blood and with amnesia in the forest of Galleria Manor, regularly beaten by her husband out of jealousy/drunken stupor who then tries to drown her in a lake in a Murder-Suicide, suffers multiple miscarriages and is forced to erase her memories of the trauma. The icing on the cake is that she fully intends to bring about The End of the World as We Know It and recreate it In Their Own Image.
Geaux Felmer
Voiced by: Satoshi Tsuruoka (Japanese), Joe Daniels (English)
A man from Alluna who was transformed into a donkey, transformed back thanks to one of the Curio d'Art. In reality, he is an infamous serial killer who was banished to Alluna by the Moon Society under the guise of doing a mission for them in exchange for his freedom.- Ambiguous Situation: Should the player confuse him during his boss fight, he will muse on the "King" of the World Tree Tribe and mention a grandchild. What it means for the lore of the setting when considering Nachiroux most likely being Mezzaluca and Neldo's daughter is anyone's guess.
- Chekhov's Gunman: That plain old donkey on Konyac's farm seems like a harmless joke character, right? Wrong!
- Forced Transformation: Was turned into a donkey by the Moon Society.
- Playing with Fire: His primary method of attack
- Would Hurt a Child: Brutally kills several children by Decapitation Presentation and makes several attempts on Nachiroux's life.
