Characters / Dragon Ball Multiverse Universe 16

Go To

The other universe that is getting the most focus, U16 is identical to U18 except for one key difference: Vegito stayed fused and defeated Majin Buu. With Vegito there, the Son and Briefs families became one, and Vegito would have Bra with Bulma. Fighters in this universe include Vegito note , Bra note , Pan note  and Goten & Trunks as Gotenks note . Gohan, Videl and Piccolo are spectators.

In General

  • Alternate Universe Reed Richards Is Awesome: Played with and then steadily deconstructed. At first it seems like U16 are better than U18 because they are normally more powerful and motivated than their counterparts, with U16!Bra being a fighter of rare power contrasting to U18 Bra who has no interest in training, Vegito being more powerful and invested in heroic actions across his universe than Goku or Vegeta, U16 Pan having unlocked Super Saiyan before her U18 counterpart and U16 Gohan being more willing to get physical in contrast to the U18 incarnation. This is deconstructed as it becomes clear over time that the U16 characters may be stronger than their U18 peers but many of them are suffering from ongoing problems that the U18 character's aren't.
  • Arc Hero: U16 is the first major "good guy" universe that U18 interacts with, and the one most obviously similar to them. Since U18 is mostly a bunch of Static Characters, it's U16 who gets most of the Character Development (both good and bad) in the story... and since U18 is the canon universe (and thus unwise to make look bad), it's U16 who is the most expendable: usually if somebody from one of the two universes has to die or get eliminated, odds are U16's version will be the one to go. (Or at least, the one who goes first.) So far, for better or worse all this means U16 usually gets the lion's share of the comic's emotional beats compared to U18 and a greater amount of screentime and plot importance.
  • Dysfunction Junction: As time goes on it's become increasingly clear that the group's relationship with each other is far from ideal and several characters such as Vegito and Son Bra have very dangerous issues boiling beneath the surface.
  • Foil: Might as well be called "The Foil Universe". Vegito is a foil to Goku and Vegeta, Son Bra contrasts with both Uub and Bra Briefs, the two Pans are similar in personality but not upbringing, and even the two Gohans have subtle but significant differences.
  • Trauma Conga Line: The events of DBM have not been friendly to U16. Pan dies when she goes up against Bojack leaving everyone upset, Vegito is taken out of the tournament after being shoved into an alternate dimension, Son Bra being manipulated into forgoing transformations against King Cold results in her nearly being beaten to death and when she manages to win her body is stolen by Ginyu. Come the Majin Rebellion, Gohan gets targeted by Perfect Cell which results in his and the U18 Videl dying and is then confronted by Majin Bra, which eventually pushes him past the Despair Event Horizon.

    Vegito

Vegito Briefs

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vegito.PNG
  • Abusive Parent: As shown in a flashback, Vegito acknowledges that one day Bra will surpass him, so he tells her before that day comes he will kill her. However, a later chapter makes it clear that he's only saying this because her already twisted personality caused her to cause a star to go supernova and destroying a planet (With Goten still on it), after unlocking Super Saiyan 2.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: While Vegito in canon is cocky, he still cares for his loved ones and is unambiguously on the side of good. Here, he's an Ax-Crazy Blood Knight where his heroism depends on his current mood.
  • Ax-Crazy: His behavior sometimes slips into mental instability, something the Novelization notes he is very worried by. One case being that when Gohan scolded him for not fighting according to the rules of the tournament, he proceeded to voice the urge to crush his skull.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Bardock has a vision of Vegito killing Gohan, and considering that Vegito is...unstable, there is definitely something wrong with him.
  • All There in the Manual: A lot about Vegito is revealed in other sources, such as the novelization, which explain that, in the past, he was thinking of threatening Pan just to make Gohan fight him.
  • Attention Whore: Probably bordering on It's All About Me, Vegito loves to show off and have the spotlight directly on him, and when it's taken off him, he flips the fuck out.
Vegito: People should listen to me when I speak!
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: Subverted. Vegito can survive the vacuum of space, but as immeasurably powerful as he is, even he needs to breathe eventually.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Vegito doesn't take losing well. He absolutely loses his shit when XXI beats him. Not surprising since he has never lost a fight since the day he was born or indeed been outright injured before the Multiverse tournament, he inherited both Goku and Vegeta's colossal Saiyan ego, and XXI did win using a very low trick that was more of a technicality.
    • Hurting or threatening Vegito's family is a strict no-no. When Captain Ginyu steals Bra's body and masquerades as his daughter, Vegito completely snaps and drags him over to Frieza's ship, swatting aside the Frost Demons, and threatens to make Ginyu Deader than Dead unless he reverses the bodyswap. When Ginyu refuses he proceeds to deliver a brutal beatdown in a visible rage.
  • Beyond the Impossible: When Vegito turns Super Saiyan 3, he generates so much power his density increases, causing him to be the new center of mass and for everything to gravitate towards him. This is noted by characters to not make much sense even In-Universe.
Trunks: Vegetto has generated so much power that his mass has increased! Scientifically, it's a bit far-fetched!
  • Big Eater: Even more than other Saiyans; Vegito's body, due to his high power-level, consumes enough energy that he needs to eat piles of Senzu Beans just to replenish the energy lost in one day. Usually a single Senzu Bean fills a person to the point where it's as if they've eaten 10 days' worth of food.
  • Blood Knight: So much. It's been 10 years since Vegito was born and he never had a real fight since Buu. Fighting is like eating for him and it's been 10 years, no wonder he was getting crazy after being disqualified.
  • Characterization Marches On: Initially Vegito was portrayed as the unambiguously heroic—if boredBig Good of Universe 16. His parenting of Bra was presented as positive, with him forgiving her for disobeying his orders in the space battle against Buu and nearly killing him (even thanking her for saving his life), and also actively working with her to curb her worse tendencies and praising her for her efforts. Even though Bardock's visions hinted at a future Face–Heel Turn, he didn't really show any darker tendencies besides occasional (and usually understandable) bouts of anger. Starting with his fight against U8 Ginyu in Bra's body, he suddenly becomes a much darker character, becoming more controlling and seeming only a hair's breadth away from snapping at any given moment. It's also retconned he is actually an abusive parent and that Bra's problems—originally coming either from her nature or trying to emulate the wrong things about her father—are a direct result of Vegito mishandling raising her.
  • Clothing Damage: In the special focusing on 6 year old Bra, Vegito's attempts to discipline her in the Time Chamber don't go so well, and he comes out with his clothes shredded.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype:
    • A hero with Blood Knight tendencies will cause harm if they can't find a way to satisfy those urges. Vegito displays some deeply worrying flashes of rage when denied a chance to fight and has considered doing morally questionable things in the past to get an enjoyable fight.
    • A Challenge Seeker hero with a Story-Breaker Power will eventually run out of worthy opponents to fight and feel Lonely at the Top; So Last Season doesn't always hold. Vegito is frustrated to the point of dangerous instability by the fact he has become the strongest thing in his universe by a large margin and there is nothing left that can actually challenge him, this results in him being a Blood Knight who draws out his fight with Broly to the point the Legendary Super Saiyan powers up enough to outright overpower Vegito and it's implied that him pressuring Bra is part of why she is such a ball of issues.
  • Deader than Dead: Claims that he can inflict this on Ginyu. In the Novelization, Ginyu mentally notes this was likely a bluff as even when Ginyu refused to do as Vegito demanded he never used the ability despite it being a handy solution to the current situation.
  • Deconstructed Trope: In Dragon Ball Canon Vegito was so overwhelming powerful that Super Buu with Gohan, Goten, Trunks and Piccolo absorbed didn't pose a threat to him, he also displayed overconfidence and Blood Knight tendencies (his taunting of Super Buu provoked him into a Suicidal Cosmic Temper Tantrum and Old Kai angrily remarked that Vegito was more than capable of destroying Super Buu outright but was prolonging the fight out of pleasure and a desire to punish Buu) Old Kai specially negatively remarks on these traits and attributes them to Vegeta's ongoing issues. Dragon Ball Multiverse explores how a character like Vegito would develop given both his overwhelming power and personality.
  • Dramatic Irony: When Babidi launches his coup, Vegito remains unconcerned, thinking that both Gohans and Bra will be able to resolve the situation. Little does he know that Bra will fall under Babidi's thrall and is by and far the biggest threat.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Make no mistake, Vegito is a Blood Knight who desires to find an opponent who could match his massive power and even contemplated threatening Gohan's family if it meant he could get Gohan to fight him. But even he has limits. When Bra had unlocked Super Saiyan 2 for the first time and winds up destroying an entire solar system in the process, Vegito states that he should have been proud that his daughter could be a Worthy Opponent, but because Bra is a dangerous threat to the entire universe because she couldn't control her power. Vegito had made a promise to the Supreme Kais that he would protect the universe, and he's willing to put aside his Blood Knight tendencies for this reason.
  • Flanderization: Initially he wasn't unlike Vegito from the original manga, but over the years his personality was deconstructed and exaggerated to the point he can come across as just a jerkass. During Goku's and Vegeta's fight, while most other characters are amazed at the new form Goku and Vegeta have achieved, Vegito calls them "little bastards", and once Goku wins, Vegito's thoughts show him just being jealous, insulting and belittling them, not wanting them to catch up to him, sounding very much like Cell saga Vegeta. Most noticeably even Cell, who in the original manga was far more prideful than Vegito, doesn't insult them and is thinking about how he can achieve that form.
Vegito: "How did those bastards manage that? They didn't have more opponents to motivate them than me. Less, actually! They're still infinitely weaker than me, but I can't let them catch up!"
  • Humanoid Abomination: Played with. The Supreme Kais call Vegito's very existence "blasphemy" due to the magic that created him never having been meant to be used that way. He also is so powerful as to have an outright Story-Breaker Power and is basically regarded as a Physical God in his universe.
  • Hypocrite: When Vegito loses to XXI by ring out, he complained about XXI's magic being a cheap trick to keep him out of the stadium. Thing is, Vegito beat Universe 20 Broly the same way by blasting him out of the ring for 30 seconds. Vegito knows he would have lost fair and square, otherwise he wouldn't have used that tactic on Broly. But now someone did the same thing to him, the rules are stupid? Although, Vegito had an honest fight with Broly first, and Broly was potentially a danger to the audience, whereas XXI just teleported Vegito out as his opening move. Gohan points out that if the match had been a life or death battle XXI could realistically have gone on to murder everyone and blow up the Earth before Vegito returned, so claiming XXI won because of the tournament rules only rings pretty hollow.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Played with, in the U16 novelization Vegito is repulsed and disgusted with himself for even thinking of threatening Pan to make Gohan give him a good fight, he absolutely sees it as wrong and refuses to act on the impulse but when he comes to point of considering to talk to Old Kai about what's wrong with him he downplays how bad the impulse really was and insists that he can control himself. In the present time he's still having such impulses and they may be getting worse.
  • Implacable Man: After having a 3-chapter battle with Broly ending with an attack that drains nearly 3/4 of whatever was left of his strength, Vegito uses Instant Transmission to pursue Zen Buu for a chapter-long battle... in space... while defending an incapacitated Broly.
  • Invincible Hero: Vegetto is easily the strongest person in his whole universe. No one can challenge him... and as the fusion of two Blood Knights, he hates it. It's even stated in his universe's special that while he's still a good guy, he isn't as pure as he once was because of it.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's a borderline Ax-Crazy Psychopathic Manchild at his worst, but he does truly love his family. Unfortunately, he's very poor at actually showing it, which leads to Bra having a truckload of issues.
  • The Kirk: The Ego of a U16 Freudian Trio that includes Gohan as the Superego and Bra as the Id. Vegito is better-disciplined, more principled, and friendlier than Bra but has temper issues and darker urges that Gohan lacks. As of late it seems he and Bra are swapping roles.
  • Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards: While Vegito is by and far the most powerful contender in the tournament (besides Broly) in terms of physical might, he ultimately lags behind Gast and Buu. The former is a Kung-Fu Wizard who knows spells that can prevent Vegito from accessing his Super Saiyan forms while the latter is a Reality Warper who can bring back the dead on a whim. Vegito himself acknowledges this, much to his anger and frustration.
    • It's becoming more and more of a trend: XXI is able to use a spell to deal with him in the tournament, and then I'k'l easily freezes him with his technique and seemingly shatters his body with little effort, despite him being leagues weaker than most of the fighters there.
  • Meaningful Name: Due to Vegito's hunger predicament, the Kais selected an unknown, underdeveloped world in which to mass produce Senzu Bean plants (as Earth's soil wasn't rich enough to grow such a large amount). When Vegito arrived on the planet, he named it "Last Hope", because the planet was his last hope to avoid starving to death.
  • Might Makes Right: Not to the point of Prince Vegeta's "the weak don't deserve to live" mentality, but he's still of the belief that since he's the most powerful, he has the final say on everything.
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: Piccolo is stunned to see him injured during his fight with Broly and even more so when he realizes Vegito has never been hurt since he was created.
  • Odd Friendship: Vegito and Android 18 are apparently close friends. According to Syl Lys who wrote the U16 novel, this was a trait gained from Vegeta, who, during a group reunion between the Cell and Buu Sagas, developed a relationship of mutual respect and understanding with the Android. Like Vegito, 18 feels both out of place, and quite frankly, bored. It is also 18 who convinces Vegito to accept the responsibilities he had inherited from Goku and Vegeta, particularly regarding their families.
  • Papa Wolf: Vegito becomes terrifyingly menacing if his family gets threatened. When Ginyu steals Bra's body, Vegito threatens to destroy Ginyu's immortal soul should he not return Bra's body.
  • Parents as People: Vegito certainly won't be winning father of the year awards anytime soon. Though he means well, he's shown to be an absolutely horrible father to Bra. He doesn't often try to rein in her anger and would rather leave it to Gohan to calm her down, and whenever he actually does try he would end up throwing a tantrum himself and give up whenever she didn't listen. It's little wonder why Bra turned out the way she is, and obviously it's because of him.
  • Physical God: He's Nigh-Invulnerable and possibly the strongest character in the tournament, more of a god than the literal gods like the Kaioshins. He was even treated like a real god when he visited other planets, causing armies to bow down to him in fear.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Multiverse gives us a look into the long term effects of what happens when you combine Goku's childish personality with Vegeta's aggression and pride, and make that person the strongest in the universe; he becomes a powerful, fighting-crazed lunatic who only wants to fight strong opponents and sees himself as the ultimate authority in any situation, with a fuse that's even shorter than Vegeta's. To note, when Gohan stopped him from fighting outside the rules of the tournament and he was left to himself, he said Gohan made him mad enough that he wanted to crush his skull, even though Vegito knew perfectly well that Gohan was right. Word of God (on this site's very forum, no less) openly states that Vegito's personality is at least partly due to the Vegeta half lacking the character development that U18's Vegeta received at the end of the original series (development that Vegeta displays during and right after his match with Trunks). Vegito may have Goku's goodness and self-control, but he still has the evil and issues that Vegeta never properly got over.
  • Power Up Let Down: Even Vegito's ungodly power comes with a drawback; he cannot maintain Super Saiyan 3 for more than 15 seconds, due to the way it drains his energy, he's become so strong, it depletes just that fast.
Vegito: Absolutely. I would not be able to hold it for more than ten seconds. My power is so great that the time is accelerated. When I was Goku, I could easily take ten or twenty minutes in Super Saiyan 3. Especially when I was dead, as my body didn't have to worry about the strain as much. Level 3 transformation is not like the other two. It's like channeling all that power into the force of a single blow. The power of the Level Three I used on Broly might be a hundred times more powerful than that which Goku of the Universe 18 would have been capable of, but in comparison it would have been a much shorter blow.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: If he's with Gohan, he's the red to Gohan's blue. If he's with Bra, he's the blue to his daughter's red, though this may be reversing as of late.
  • Reluctant Psycho: He's got some very disturbing Ax-Crazy tendencies under the surface that have even tried to push him to hurt his own family to satisfy his need for a fight, like kidnapping Pan to try and push Gohan into going Papa Wolf on him. He's aware that he's not entirely well and is not happy about it and tries to suppress this side of him as best as he can.
  • Skewed Priorities: During the Majin rebellion when most of the contestants including him were teleported away, Vegito wants to get back, because he's "missing out on all the action" rather than any genuine concern for his family.
  • Story-Breaker Power: Deconstructed; Vegito knows he's OP, and is frustrated no-one's on his level. He's relieved when he fights Broly, someone finally on his level to the point of stretching out the fight to long. Vegito's only defeated by an equally broken tactic, and even then it's only by a technicality.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Him deciding to go SSJ3 against Ginyu in Bra's body, who can only reach SSJ2, is weaker than Vegito in every same transformation, so SSJ2 Vegito would already be enough to comfortably win the fight.
  • Tranquil Fury:
    • The only true emotion that can be described from Vegito's face is controlled but pure, white-hot rage as he describes in bit by bit detail to Ginyu, who's taken over Bra's body, that if he does not bring her back he would obliterate his soul.
    • He has another moment of this in the novelization. When an intergalactic crime boss makes the very grave error of attacking his family while he's off-world, Vegito and the Kais make a plan to deal with him. Later, when said crime boss is at his home with his family and protected by his guards, Vegito proceeds to vanish everyone in the area except him, and then sits at his table and reads his newspaper while drinking a cup of tea, before calmly threatening him with a Slasher Smile that if he doesn't renounce his criminal activities and start making his planet a better place as well as leaving his family, then very bad things will start happening to him and his family in return.
  • Troll: Enjoys getting on Cell's nerves in regards to his Cell Jrs, asking why Cell has two children after they got revived, and later telling Cell to try not to kill any of them when he goes in his apartment.
  • Warrior Prince: As he's the fused form of Goku and Vegeta, technically, has inherited Vegeta's royal title, making him "Prince Vegito". It is unknown, however, if like Vegeta, he takes pride in or even preserves this.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: In the novelization, he's on the receiving end by U18 Vegeta of all people. After all the unconverted contestants were teleported away so as not to interfere in Babidi's coup, Vegito confidently reassures that there's nothing to worry about saying that Babidi is no threat. Vegeta angrily calls Vegito out on his blasé attitude, pointing out that not everyone is invincible as Vegito is. They, including Vegito's own family, are thus in grave danger.
  • World's Strongest Man: In terms of raw power, possibly even the multiverse's strongest man. And Vegito is very much aware of it. However...
  • The Worf Effect: ...Vegito being so strong—far beyond Goku—means anyone who can beat him must be a big deal. This means Vegito ends up the go-to jobber of the story, losing to XXI, along with Gast and I'K'L, to show how formidable they are. Vegito failing to defeat U4 Buu (despite technically being stronger) is taken as proof the latter is invincible.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Vegito, in the past, due to his frustration at the lack of any challenge, once thought of threatening Pan, his own granddaughter, to make Gohan fight him. He was more than a little disgusted with himself for the thought.
  • You Remind Me of X: Played for drama. In the U16 Novelization Vegito describes his thought of threatening Pan to provoke a serious fight out of Gohan as eerily similar to the kind of thing Perfect Cell would have come up with. He's suitably disgusted by this.
    Bra

Son Bra

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bra.PNG
  • Adaptational Nice Guy:
    • Zigzagged. While still a trash-talking Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy, the novelization fleshes her out as a more sympathetic character compared to her comic counterpart. Though in one instance, the novelization also reveals Pan doesn't forfeit against Bojack out of fear Bra will make fun of her—an implication nowhere to be seen within the comic.
    • While she gets Majinised by Babidi in both the comic and the novelisation, the latter at least shows her trying to fight Babidi's control at various points, something doesn't happen in the comic until her U18 counterpart gives her "The Reason You Suck" Speech. In addition greater emphasis is put on how Babidi got to her, via playing on her inner turmoil over Ginyu hjacking her body and the pyschic damage from the Hatichayk screams.
  • Agony of the Feet: Shoots her own foot when she gets carbonite on it.
  • Age Lift: In canon Dragon Ball she's younger than Pan, in Multiverse she's older by at least 2 years.
  • Alternate Universe Reed Richards Is Awesome: U18 Bra's canonical power is unclear because she is not interested in training to be a fighter. U16 Bra is said to be even stronger than Mystic Gohan. Not too surprising considering her father is Vegito. Deconstructed in-universe over time as it becomes increasingly clear that U18!Bra is happy and stable in a way that U16 Bra really isn't. U18 Bra outright becomes her new role model after the Majin Rebellion as part of U16 Bra realising she needs to change for the better..
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Her defining trait. As the daughter of Vegito, she was born with massive potential, to the point where her father is the only person in her universe that has been confirmed who we know can beat her. Because of this, and because her father does little to curb her bad behavior, she is an extremely arrogant ball of issues. Best shown at the start of her fight with Cold, she accepts the handicap of not transforming into a Super Saiyan to have a more interesting fight, dismissing Gohan's reminder that she's no longer doing this for fun. However, as it turns out, she did have a backup plan: she carries senzu beans in her glove, allowing her to recover should Cold prove to be too strong.
    • Notably post Majin Rebellion she's dropped this attitude treating Gast with absolute respect as a dangerous opponent and ultimately admitting that even if she could beat him she shouldn't as he'd be a better match for XXI than she would.
  • Art Evolution: As originally drawn by Gogeta Jr., Bra was quite skinny. For the third round, Asura gave Bra softer, more Bulma-like facial features and a noticeably shapelier figure. From the Majin Rebellion and beyond, Bra was redesigned yet again, this time to be less curvy and more muscular (with defined abdominals even in her base state) and a more modest sports bra that doesn't show any cleavage.
  • Asshole Victim: When she gets body-jacked by Ginyu and left to die in his bifurcated body. Considering how she acts, many fans saw it as being very, well-deserved.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Bra's Super Saiyan 2 form is normally this, as it brings her to a level above Mystic Gohan but transforming into it drives her into a blind rage that makes her a threat to anyone/everyone in range. Averted when she goes Majin and can actually keep a focused mind, mastering the form.
  • Ax-Crazy: After she goes Majin, Bra reveals herself to be even more nightmarishly kill-crazy and sociopathic than her half-father ever was under the same circumstances.
  • Badass Adorable: In one of the specials, a 6-year-old Bra was already capable of turning Super Saiyan and rivaling the power of Gohan and Gotenks.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Pan being killed by Bojack is something she was deeply unhappy about. Zangya taunting her about it set her off like an atomic bomb.
    • Being called worthless. When U18 Bra calls her this after a Drunk on the Dark Side rant where she claimed she was Number One and had complete control over her power, her Death Glare reaction shows that the remark hit home, and HARD, right in her insecurities.
    • We get to see in a flashback the first time she unlocked SSJ2. The trigger was her being considered irrelevant in comparison to her father Vegito by some boosted mercenary warriors who could manhandle her with their combined might.
  • Beyond Redemption: Her brother Gohan bitterly remarking that she has "done enough" and trying to kill her with a Kamehameha after she kills Nedwook with no remorse, implies he sees her as something like this now. Subverted later on, as he forgives her once the Rebellion is over, or at least refuses to hold grudges.
  • Blood Knight: Just like her father, she loves combat. This gets increased to frightening levels once she becomes a Majin.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Revealed to be under Babidi's control at the end of chapter 68. And later chapters confirm the effect is more or less total.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: She wasn't what you would call a sweet kid when she was younger, though she did have her moments with Pan and Gohan. In fact, Vegito outright called her a brat when he tried to train her in the Time Chamber; after a little over two days in there, he storms out saying that she doesn't listen and actively made things harder.
  • Break the Haughty: Her confidence takes a hit after Ginyu takes over her body and she has to be rescued by Vegito.
    • Her stint as a Majin and the fallout from that proves as a serious Break the Haughty experience for her. She's sincerely horrified and reduced to a crying self loathing mess when the scope of what she did as a Majin hits. Then Vegitto the father she looks up to descends into a terrifying rage upon learning of her actions and does his best to beat her to death, seeing her as Beyond Redemption, and has to be forcibly stopped by others from going through with it. While she is comforted by Gohan and others being willing to accept she wasn't in her right mind during the Majin Rebellion - not holding a grudge, the reality that Pan, who Bra saw as a Morality Pet, is traumatized by what Majin!Bra did and very much does hold a grudge viscerally bothers Bra.
  • Breakout Character: For a character whose first real appearance in-comic was in an unassuming little panel sandwiched under Vegito's speech bubble, Bra has become perhaps the most prominent character of the entire story, with the most screentime, special chapters, and mini-comics, as well as the single most prominent character arc. She's had the most and longest fights of any character, including the climactic battle of the story's currently largest arc, and on top of all this she has her own spin-off comic, Chibi Son Bra Did Her Best. Small wonder many consider her the de facto protagonist of the series.
  • Broken Ace: She's the second most powerful being in her universe, but she has just as many issues as her father.
  • Broken Pedestal:
    • Vegito's willingness to dismiss her as a lost cause who must be killed for getting controlled without second thought leaves a mark. She openly states she will no longer follow in his tracks, though this is mostly because she found a better role model.
    • She herself is on the receiving end by Pan who refuses to speak to her even after the Majin mark is removed and later bitter brings up one of Majin!Bra's kills before a fight, this being a result of what Bra did to Gohan. Bra is genuinely hurt by Pan's loss of faith/newfound animosity given that Pan is one of the people she openly cares about.
  • Character Development: Shows this at looooong last after she breaks out of her mind control. She rejects the Blood Knight quest of being the strongest and starts taking her much weaker yet much saner U18 counterpart as a new role model.
    • In her fight against Gast, this is reflected by the fact she has kept her hair loose, and her features quite obviously show much less cockiness or confidence. She also shows visible guilt when being prodded about her more ruthless actions by Pan, when before she would have deflected with snark. This culminates in her being willing to bow out of the Tournament as she can now accept that Gast, as both a veteran magic user and ki fighter, would have better odds against XXI than she would.
  • Characterization Marches On:
    • A major complaint made against Bra is how her characterization in later chapters is inconsistent with her earlier portrayals. She starts as a typical Smug Super much like your typical Saiyan, and while she was shown to have a darker side, she does show genuine remorse whenever she loses control and ends up harming her loved ones. However, the second round onwards shows her to be significantly more malicious, trash-talking everyone around her even if they did nothing to deserve it.
    • Also, flashbacks show that she's subconsciously afraid of her father, especially after he threatened to kill her should she lose control yet in earlier chapters, she has no problem constantly insulting him in front of his face.
  • Combat Pragmatist: For all her talk of her power, she has no qualms fighting dirty when on the losing end such as using senzu beans.
  • Cool Big Sis: As much of a jerkass she is to everyone else, she does act kindly like a big sister to her niece Pan. Zigzagged in the novelization, where the only reason Pan doesn't forfeit her fight with Bojack even in the face of imminent death is because she's afraid Bra will make fun of her.
  • Clothing Damage: Her fight with King Cold left her clothes torn and burnt, and getting dangerously close to exposing something, this trend continues with her later fights.
  • Dark Action Girl: As Babidi's last resort, Majin Bra wrecks pretty much anyone who tries to fight her all while having the time of her life.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype:
    • Of the Child Prodigy who was born with huge power and potential, much like her half-siblings Gohan, Goten, and main timeline Trunks. Bra as a child had the power of a Super Saiyan but none of the experience necessary to know how use that power safely. This results in her nearly blowing up the Earth during a fight by accident and making her incredibly hard to discipline.
    • With her transformation into a Majin, Bra becomes one of Token Evil Teammate and Good is Not Nice characters. She has for most of her life been on the good guys' side but she justifies that it was a matter of peer pressure, "fear of being judged" and Vegito being around to keep her in line. When Babidi's magic affects her and Vegito isn't around, she slips into full-blown villainy quite easily.
    • She pretty much has ultimate power, being only second to Gohan and Vegito, and had never faced the true threat or weight of death at least until Vegito announced he would kill her before she grows stronger than him. Also, she always had access to the Reset Button of the Dragon Balls in some capacity, meaning she could always clean up after her mistakes. Vegito even ordered her to fix the destruction she caused as a Super Saiyan 2 with the Dragon Balls. She therefore has no personal understanding of death as a permanent Bad Thing, or of permanent and drastic changes since every time someone could fix the problem, which probably explains why she cuts loose as bad as she does. She is left a crying, whimpering mess when being confronted with Vegito giving her a death sentence, with an implicit lack of a resurrection afterwards.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Her expression after King Cold switch bodies with her says it all. Like everyone else, she had no clue that Ginyu was really King Cold the entire time.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Hates being called "Bra", and wishes to be referred to as "Son Bra" as she considers herself part of the Son family.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: A technique she reveals during her fight with Cold.
  • The Dragon: To Babidi after she gets Brainwashed and Crazy.
  • Driven to Suicide: In the alternate universe story "You Can't Go Home Again", faced with the people she killed not being to get resurrected Bra attempts to stab her own heart after breaking out of Babidi's mind-control.
  • Drunk on the Dark Side: After falling to the Majin spell. Comes complete with a full hangover when she realizes what she's done and what it means for herself.
  • Easily Forgiven: Played with after the Majin Rebellion is over, the Kaioshins officially pardon all Babidi's slaves, including Bra, on grounds of being mind-controlled. In the aftermath, Bra apologizes to Gohan for killing him, but he is just glad that his sister is back to normal. Basically, Bra's brothers do not hold her brutal actions while brainwashed against her. On the other hand this attitude is not universal Vegito is not willing to trust her again and outright tried to kill her over her stint as a Majin, Videl is somewhat still wary of her and Pan will not even listen to her apologies and is in fact deeply angry at Bra.]]
  • Enfante Terrible: She nearly blows up the planet when she was a kid during a temper tantrum. Her reaction, when admonished for that, was to treat it like a slap on the wrist. Comes to a logical conclusion when she cuts loose as a Super Saiyan 2 and destroys a solar system and everyone living in it. She doesn't understand why Vegito basically gave her a death sentence.
  • Extra Parent Conception: In a sense; her father is a fusion of two people.
  • Expy:
    • To Azula of Avatar the Last Airbender fame. An Action Girl who was a Child Prodigy with Enfante Terrible moments in her youth, wants to please a flawed father figure and has a complicated relationship with her older more moral brother. Both are very powerful and skilled with an all consuming focus on being the best fighter they can be.
    • Several people in the comic's comments section have compared Majin Bra to Infinite Crisis era Superboy Prime, being an overwhelmingly powerful (to the point of being an Outside-Context Problem) former hero who goes on a terrifying rampage and slaughters people left and right after being corrupted by another villain. The fact Majin Bra expresses mocking contempt for her weaker but nicer U18 counterpart who she ends up contrasted with only helps this, as Superboy Prime displayed similar opinions towards and ended up facing off against his mainstream Superboy counterpart. Ironically much Superboy Prime she comes to regard her rampage with shame and has to deal with the damage sinking to that level has done to her families view of her.
  • Flash Step: Of both the "teleportation" and "burst of super speed" varieties.
  • Foil:
    • To U18 Uub. Both are students of their universes' greatest hero and have been trained to be said hero's successor. Both came into being as a result of the Z-Fighters' final confrontation with Majin Buu (Uub is the purified reincarnation of Kid Buu, while Bra is the child of the fusion to defeat Buu) and both want their teacher's approval. While Uub is a Nice Guy with a good relationship with the people in his universe (and particularly Goku), U16 Bra is a jerkass with a strained relationship with most of her family (particularly Vegito). Additionally, Bra has a Superpowered Evil Side in the form of SS2 while Uub is specifically noted in the novelization to not have any such darkness inside him. Lastly, Uub wants nothing to do with Babidi and expresses contempt for the wizard, while Bra ultimately falls prey to Badidi's Majin Spell and seems to enjoy the result.
  • Foreshadowing: Her Superpowered Evil Side, belligerent attitude, the Troubling Unchildlike Behavior shown in her Special and how Ginyu manages to control her tremendous power because she is not pure of heart. All of these things foreshadow Babidi being able to take her over because she has some very nasty issues below her education as one of the good guys.
  • Freudian Excuse: A lot of her issues can be attributed to Vegito's "parenting" skills. He never tried to properly raise her outside of just training her, and would quickly give up whenever he failed to discipline her during her temper tantrums. He also tends to place rather unrealistic expectations on her when it comes to protecting the universe, which only drives her insecurities even further. Chapter 75 reveals that Vegito's may have been significantly worse than just neglectful with a flashback showing him threatening to kill Bra before she can grow stronger then him. It turns out he had a modicum of a justification to be as pissed as he was when we see the full context of the events though the approach was still a drastic one. But....
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: As her U18 counterpart points out, her less than ideal upbringing does not justify how much of a colossal jackass and mass-murdering slave of Babidi she is, with U18!Bra angrily calling out U16!Bra for trying to excuse her actions in such a way. A later chapter shows that Vegito's threat, while extremely callous with her, was still spot on: he was right to point out she was so powerful and unrestrained that she ended up destroying an entire solar system in the madness of Super Saiyan 2. It's strongly implied the threat was so she'd get her act together, which she clearly remembers differently.
  • Good is Not Nice: Bra is on the side of the good guys, but isn't the most moral person. Credit where it's due she does become a kind person after a severe Break the Haughty experience.
  • Guile Hero: Despite her Blood Knight tendencies, it turns out Bra is fully capable of outmaneuvering her opponents when the situation calls for it. Bulma is her mom, after all:
    • Against Eleim, when his technology made the gravity of the arena super-powerful, she quickly realized all she had to do was not touch it. When he resorted to using carbonite, she quickly removed her glove rather than waiting to figure out what it was or give it a chance to spread. She then defeated Eleim by simply teleporting him dozens of light-years away from the tournament, out of sight, rather than beating him down and risking him using more carbonite.
    • Against King Cold, where she had agreed to a handicap of not transforming, despite Cold revealing a sixth form with a power roughly equal to that of Perfect Cell, she can quickly engage Cold in a ki-tossing tennis match that wears Cold down, throwing in several ki blasts of her own to put additional pressure on Cold. He takes exception to that and pummels her to within an inch of her life, but Bra had several senzu beans hidden in her gloves, allowing her to recover.
    • Later in the fight, Bra further revealed that she can create some kind of solid duplicate of herself, allowing for further misdirection of her foes, particularly when coupled with her Instant Transmission ability.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: To the point that killing Zangya in a single blow is considered a marker of restraint. Lampshaded by Vegito during Bra's special chapter. They went in the Room of Time & Space to Teach Her Anger so she can learn to control it. Vegito returned with half of his clothes destroyed, about to give up on doing that. Gohan, Trunks and Bulma wonder what happened.
  • Hero Killer: As Majin Bra she kills Nedwook, both Piccolos, both Gohans, Token Evil Teamate Cell, his Mini Juniors and Phipsil.
  • Heroic BSoD: After she breaks free from Babidi's control, she's left a crying wreck hugging herself on the ground. Vegito immediately rushing to kill her does not help to the point she outright suggests letting him kill her, but everyone else's What the Hell, Hero? towards her father helps her get back on track.
  • Hypocrite: She thinks magic users are cheaters, but she uses senzu beans when she fights King Cold. The novelization explains Bra did not consider it cheating because she had seen King Cold and other fighters constantly bending the rules and getting away with it every time, so she had no qualms about abusing the system.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: The novelization implies that for all her haughtiness, deep-down she suffers from insecurities since she was a kid of being unable to match her father and half-brother's skill levels. Grand Supreme Kai confirms it by implying she's doing all of the atrocities as a Majin due to her fears.
Grand Supreme Kai: I thought... You wanted to become a complete fighter, body and soul... Not just a slave to your fears.
  • YMVR Informed Kindness: The novelization in particular likes to gush about how "kind" Bra is, even though she's been a complete Jerkass throughout the story.
  • It's All About Me: In her worst moments Bra has a tendency to put her wants over everything else. The most egregious example of this is seen when she first went Super Saiyan 2 and went on a rampage that culminated in destroying a planet with billions of people on it (along with Goten) and then destroying the sun which destroyed the rest of the solar system. Her only reaction to the whole thing was that she was happy that she finally surpassed Gohan. This is probably why the way she finally frees herself from Babidi's control is not through her friends or family, or the damage she caused, but by another version of her highlighting the fact she's passive to Babidi himself.
  • It's All My Fault: After U18 Bra's dressing-down pushes her out of Babidi's mind control, Bra blames herself for falling under his influence and committing a massacre.
  • Jerkass:
    • She behaves like a spoiled teenager with superpowers, which is essentially what she is.
    • She's even more of a Jerkass in the novelization. One such example is when Pan is fighting against Bojack and fails to do any real damage to him, she initially wants to forfeit, but doesn't because she's afraid that Bra will mock her for being a coward. As a result... Well, let's just say it's a good thing the Dragon Balls are on standby.
  • The Juggernaut: As a Super Saiyan 2 Majin, Bra is nigh unstoppable. Whatever the heroes throw at her, she easily No Sells most of it, and they only manage to get in a few good hits in by catching her off-guard.
  • Kick the Morality Pet: Gohan is one of the few people Bra genuinely listens to and respects, with her flashback special showing him spending time with her when she was a child and playing games together. As a Majin however, she gleefully attacks both U18 and her universe's Gohan while making it clear she intends to kill them both. She eventually does kill her universe's Gohan with a smile on her face, showing she's far off the deep end.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Once she becomes a Majin, it signifies the Darkest Hour for the heroes. This was compounded by her brutal killing of Nedwook, both Piccolos, and her own brother Gohan.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: The reason she ended up forfeiting her match against Gast is that she realizes that she stands no chance against XII compared to Gast who has magic and Ki in his arsenal so if the latter agrees to use a wish to help Universe 19 then she might as well just give up then and there.
  • Lack of Empathy: She's a massive Jerkass but has a few redeeming traits. Once she becomes a Majin, however, she shows no qualms hurting and killing her loved ones, all with a Slasher Smile on her face. Averted after the Majin Rebellion, where her actions wrack her with self-loathing and she's working on being more empathetic.
  • Laser Blade: Another one of her techniques revealed during her fight against Cold, likely a variation on Vegito's Spirit Sword technique.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After spending almost the entirety of her screen time being a Smug Super, Bra's ego finally gets the better of her when she goes up against King Cold who promptly exploits her ego/her not seeing him as a threat to beat her nearly to death, even when she rallies and wins the fight she gets body-swapped by Ginyu, who had been masquerading as King Cold the whole time.
  • Lightning Bruiser: In her universe, she's second only to Vegito in terms of raw power and she uses teleportation regularly as part of her fighting style.
  • The McCoy: The Id of a U16 Freudian Trio that includes Gohan as the Superego and Vegito as the Ego. Bra is less disciplined, altruistic, and friendly than Vegito, and is the most passionate of the three—not just getting angry, but also being the only one to cry during the story.
  • Moral Myopia: Bra as a child sees little problem in destroying entire populated planets to win a fight. After all, there's several sets of Dragon Balls to solve that problem. U18 Bra in the novelisation specifically calls her on this horrible mindset during her "Reason You Suck" Speech to Majin Bra.
    • She has finally started breaking through that specific character flaw after getting a full taste of the emotional consequences of her actions that can't be wished away: she now has started to understand that SURE, it is possible to come back from the dead, but that does not remove the pain of dying or the atrocious context of said death, and she is therefore NOT automatically owed forgiveness for that.
  • Morality Pet:
    • Pan is one, with Bra acting as a Cool Big Sis to her. When she gets killed by Bojack, Bra goes absolutely ballistic. The fact Pan is traumatised by Bra's Majin killing spree and is hostile to her afterwards really bothers Bra.
    • Gohan is also one, being her mentor when she was a child and is one of the very few people that Bra treats with absolute respect. He is also the only one capable of stopping Bra's Unstoppable Rage without having to resort to violence like Vegito does. She's sincerely disgusted with herself for killing him as a Majin and implicity regards that action as absolute proof she needs to change for the better.
  • More than Mind Control: Babidi's magic is brainwashing her and influencing her mental state for the worse (resulting in her calling Babidi Master and obeying him without question) but Babidi did not create the darkness in Bra's heart, instead as U16 Gohan remarks he removed/suppressed the better parts of Bra's psyche resulting in a Bra that acts on her absolute worst impulses and desires without reservation or remorse.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She's very attractive, fights in very tight clothes, suffers a lot of Clothing Damage in her more intense fights, and there's a lot of focus on her chest and rear when she's in combat.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • Breaks down in tears and a Heroic BSoD after she blasts Vegito and Gohan while crazed from powering up to Super Saiyan 2 during the fight against Zen Buu.
    • Gets hit with a two stage version of this as a result of U18 Bra pushing her into a Heel Realization. After being forced to acknowledge that Babidi is in control of her actions, she freezes with a sickened expression on her face while thinking about how weak and corrupt she is for hurting her friends/family. Right after, when she is pushed into destroying the Majin mark and rejecting Babidi's magic completely, the immediate aftermath shows her crying and shocked as the reality of everything she did while Brainwashed And Axe Crazy sinks in.
    • And the realization pretty much still weighs on her psyche since a simple (though quite sharp) reminder from Pan of her gruesome actions Pan is enough to visibly shock her and cause her to freeze for a second with guilt.
  • My Greatest Failure: After the Majin Rebellion, it is very clear that she sees her abhorrent actions and words during the rebellion as a source of great shame. It shows that she is trying to become better when U4!Buu tries to rebel once again, as she comes to the aid of U19 and is in perfect control of herself even as a Super Saiyan 2. It is pretty obvious she feels sorry for the whole mess and wants to atone.
  • Never My Fault:
    • When U18 Bra forces her to recall the atrocities that she had committed, Majin Bra's initial response is to try and shift the blame on Vegito's extremely lacking parenting. But U18 Bra turns this argument on its head, saying that it's no excuse for how much of a monster Majin Bra has become and calling her out on trying to excuse her actions in such a way. Further invoked when we see the whole context as Vegito threatened to kill her, she can't fathom why Vegito was so pissed and is justifying to herself that it's not her fault things turned out so bad.
    • Aggressively averted after the Majin Rebellion. She admits it's all her fault and is horrified at herself for sinking that low, very much feels she should not be let of the hook for what she did.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: After nearly being killed during the match against King Cold, Bra reveals that she can create a solid After Image that can be broken and spread goo over the opponent to hold them down. Vegito explains it as a modified version of Gotenks' Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack.
  • Oh, Crap!: Bra royally freaks out when she notices Phipsil shot carbonite onto her boot, enough to inflict Agony of the Feet on herself.
  • Other Me Annoys Me: Played with. After talking to U18 Bra for the first time, U16 Bra thinks her girly counterpart is a hare-brained and insultingly weak idiot. Later, when U18 Bra (despite the absurd difference in strength!) bravely gets in her face to call her a space worm's worthless and weak-minded slave, resulting in enough self-disgust to bring her to snap out of the mind-control, U16 Bra starts admiring her saner and more strong-minded counterpart.
  • Plot Armor: In general when she's put into a situation where she should either lose or at least suffer severe consequences, expect something to happen to turn the situation in her favor. This is somewhat played for horror when she's the antagonist as the heroes cannot bring her down via fighting no matter how hard they try and end up dying brutally to her.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red to her father Vegito's Blue, though this may be reversing as of late.
  • Reluctant Hero: Deconstructed. Majin Bra claims that she never really cared about her duties to protect her universe. She only followed in her father's footsteps due to peer pressure and Vegito's own unrealistic expectations.
  • Shadow Archetype:
    • Serves as one to Gohan, especially during the Cell Saga. Both of them are Saiyan-human child prodigies with abnormally high power at birth who were pushed to fight from a young age by their father's, with bouts of explosive rage and a SS2 state that serves as a Superpowered Evil Side. But while Goku eventually came to understand that Gohan truly didn't like fighting and stopped pushing him, due to his own hang-ups Vegito has had no such revelations. Bra is a look at what Gohan could have become if Goku had just never stopped pushing him to fight, or if he had been raised by someone with Vegeta's issues.
    • If U13 Vegeta represents what U18 Vegeta could have been if he remained the genocidal space pirate under Freeza, Bra is Vegeta if he remained the same arrogant and self-serving Token Evil Teammate Jerkass he was during the Android/Cell saga who never learned humility.
  • Smug Super: Being the child of Vegito and trained by him personally, she is very powerful and boy, does she know it.
  • The Sociopath: She already has quite the list of nasty traits from the get-go, and becoming a Majin turns them up a notch. Her initial reaction to committing genocidal on a the scale of a solar system (claiming Its Not My Fault and only caring how strong it means she is) would indicate she already had some worrying elements to her pysche.
  • Strong and Skilled: Her base form is around Cell saga Perfect Cell's level, meaning that just by turning SS1 alone she'd be stronger than SS3 Goku from Buu saga. So she's not only one of the strongest competitors in the tournament, she's also very smart, it's as its clearest during the Majin Rebellion, where she outclasses everyone else in power, and when the Gohans and Cell try to outsmart her, she manages to either outsmart or see what they're trying coming, and gains the upper hand a bunch of times.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Her Super Saiyan 2 form, where she would quickly give in to her anger and go berserk. Made more poignant when Ginyu using her body, as well as her Majin self, were both able to control this form.
    • It is implied that the Super Saiyan 2 basically releases her base instincts and suppresses higher levels of reasoning, which means her lone priority is to go overkill and annihilate the enemy, while strategy, obstacles and consequences become nothing more than an afterthought, because deep down she thought every bad thing could be wished away and fixed back to normal. Now that she understands some consequences can't be wished away, and that she finally has a need to get a grip while in that form, she has an actual drive to control it.
  • Trash Talk: Bra occasionally engages in this, mostly about how she is more powerful than her opponent.
  • Teleport Spam: More so than any other character in Multiverse capable of it, Bra makes prolific use of her ability to teleport wherever she wants, whenever she wants.
  • The Atoner: Becomes this after the Majin Rebellion. She especially seems to wants to make amends with U19, going to their rescue when U4!Buu is attacking them and about to pierce their shield, and while she would likely forfeit from the tournament and do away with the violence, she makes explicit mention of her previous promise of a wish to save U19, as her reason to keep on fighting.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: As Majin Bra she admits she hated struggling with her moral consciousness and protecting those she saw as weak, so as Babidi has removed all those restraints, she's more than happy to give in to her darker side and fight both Gohans. She admits it under a More than Mind Control state though...
  • To Be a Master: Bra's primary motivation is to become the strongest fighter in her universe if not all universes. She admits to her U18 counterpart that she trains constantly towards this goal and in every tournament match she's taken part in she tries use the experience to improve her skills. This focus is somewhat and then outright deconstructed with revelation of far Bra will go in her pursuit of strength and the unhealthy implications of such a mindset, Grand Supreme Kai and Majin Bra imply that's Bra's desire to become a "complete fighter body and soul" and her frustration over not being able to control her Super Saiyan 2 state played a direct part in Babidi's magic taking her over.
  • Undying Loyalty: Surprisingly as Majin Bra she displays this towards Babidi. She dedicates her energy to protecting him, consistently freaks out and rushes to his defense whenever he is in danger (to the point of abandoning enjoyable fights), and passes up the chance to fight strong opponents if it means dealing with threats to his safety. One example is teleporting U18!Gohan into deep space because he was trying to bypass her and attack Babidi.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Bra has a bit of a temper to put it mildly, and it is only worsened by transforming into Super Saiyan 2. As a result, she is forbidden from doing this considering that she can barely control herself in that form.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: She is on the receiving end of several of them, but it's her counterpart's scathing lecture plus Pan "How could you kill my father?" cries that finally breaks her out of her toxic mindset.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Comparatively speaking, she was this during her battle with Cold as they made a bet for her to not use Super Saiyan. It's made clear that he has her beat in raw power, but she managed to defeat him even with the power gap by damaging him over time with the help of trickery, skills that slow him down, and senzu.
  • Weak-Willed: Surprisingly, despite all her boasting, Bra is notoriously weak willed. She admits that she was only doing good because she felt it was expected of her or because of fear of death by her father, and succumbing to Babidi's mind control and reduced to his slave rather quickly with no semblance of fighting back until the end of the arc, something multiple characters lampshade.
  • "Well Done, Daughter!" Girl: The novelization implies Bra suffers from the stress and pressure to meet her father's expectations and succeed him as protector of the universe. It all comes back with a horrible vengeance as Vegito gave her what amounts to a death sentence... if she can't straighten her act and master her impulses. Talk about pressure.
  • Worthy Opponent: Subtly shown but present: Majin Bra seems to view Cell as this. She is excited and pleased he turned on Babidi, since this gives her a chance to fight him. She comments almost appreciatively on his newly created mini-Cells and is concerned when he quickly adapts to her Teleport Spam orientated fighting style. She notably goes out of her way to be a No-Nonsense Nemesis towards him, using maximum force and trying to kill him as quickly as possible—a sharp contrast to how she toys with the rest of the fighters.
    Gohan

Gohan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/u16_gohan.PNG
  • Adaptational Badass: Unlike canon Gohan, this Gohan didn't stop training and still has access to his Mystic state.
  • All-Powerful Bystander: He's simply a spectator in the tournament even though his strength outmatches a vast majority of the combatants. He singlehandedly turns the tides of the Majin Rebellion when he gets the chance to break away from Cell.
  • Badass Bookworm: Became a scholar, but he's still a top fighter in his universe.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He's a fundamentally decent person and generous soul while also being one of the most powerful fighters in his Universe and has a legendary capacity for Unstoppable Rage when pushed too far.
  • Despair Event Horizon: After seeing his Brainwashed And Ax-Crazy surrogate sister kill his mentor/closest friend Piccolo and use looted Senzu Beans to recover from the damage he managed to inflict on her, Gohan sinks to his knees and gives up. Majin Bra then kills him.
  • Disappointed in You: His final words before dying are to possibly lament his disappointment in Bra for willingly succumbing to Babidi's control or at least for Badidi's will being stronger than hers.
  • The Glasses Come Off: When Bra gets enraged over Pan's death and attempts to kill Bojack, jeopardizing their placement in the tournament and Pan's resurrection.
  • Good Is Not Soft: By chapter 68, Babidi's stunts have gotten him angry. He beats Nappa and Kakarotto into pieces and disintegrates Ginyu in the first five pages.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Gets brutally bisected by Majin Bra.
  • Nice Guy: Gohan is by far the nicest person in Universe 16 next to Pan. Which isn't actually saying much since, outside of Piccolo, Videl and Pan, almost everyone from this universe is a Manchild, with Vegito and Bra being the most standout examples.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: By abandoning his fight with Majin Cell to save U18 Videl from Nappa, it left the evil android free to murder the Universe 19 warriors, the Piccolos and the Videl from his own universe. To make matters worse, Cell proceeds to murder U18 Videl as well.
  • Only Sane Man: The voice of reason among his more reckless, aggressive family members like Vegito and Bra. He's usually the one to talk sense into them and restrain them from misbehaving.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Gohan gets incensed near this level as he rescues U18!Videl and U18!Goten, literally tearing Majin Nappa and Majin Kakarot apart with his fists and then one-shot killing Ginyu/Cold with an energy beam. However, it truly reaches this point when Majin Cell kills both Videls. Gohan proceeds to power up and literally vaporize Majin Cell (and U18!Videl's corpse) while snarling in murderous rage.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Blue to Vegito's Red.
  • The Spock: The Superego of a U16 Freudian Trio that includes Vegito as the Ego and Bra as the Id. Gohan is the most calm, level-headed, and moral of the three, and always recommends the most reasonable course of action.
  • Team Dad: He's an actual father to Pan, but he also acts as the parental figure to all members, due to Vegito's irresponsibility making him unable to fill the role.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Oh boy, the Majin Uprising turns into this for him with tragic results. In short order: Cell murders both Videls and seemingly Piccolos, apparently to spite Gohan for abandoning their fight to try and save U18!Videl from Nappa, which in turn leaves him weeping over U16!Videl's corpse and flying into a disturbing berserk rage aimed at Cell. Right after this he is confronted by Majin Bra who revels in her newfound state and gleefully goes for the kill. After a grueling fight, Gohan manages to land a major hit on Bra...only for her to murder U16!Piccolo and heal herself with a Senzu bean. Seeing his mentor figure die at the hands of his surrogate sister on top of everything else pushes Gohan past the Despair Event Horizon and leaves him open to a lethal attack from Bra.
  • Unstoppable Rage: When Majin Cell gloats to him about killing both Piccolos and Videl. Cue the mother of energy beams nearly vaporising him.
  • Tranquil Fury: After Pan is murdered by Bojack in the ring, Gohan is incensed by this, and although he still holds on to reason by calming down Bra and reminding her of the rules when she starts to get out of control, it’s clear on a couple of occasions from the hateful Death Glare that he shoots Bojack’s way that he’s sorely tempted to go into the ring and tear him apart with his bare hands himself.
    Pan

Pan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/u16_pan.png
  • Badass Adorable: Just like any incarnation of Pan, only U16 Pan can also become a Super Saiyan. Didn't help her against Bojack though.
  • Back from the Dead:
    • Raichi uses her hatred to create a spirit of Pan and Bojack alongside several other competitors to fight Vegeta. Disturbingly, she and Bojack seem to be very buddy-buddy.
    • She returns for good when the wish to revive everyone who died in the second round is activated.
  • Bullying a Dragon: What her 'fight' with Bojack amounts to. She refuses to back down despite Gohan warning her about Bojack's cruelty and power, and all her attacks manage to do is anger Bojack into powering up, which quickly results in her Family-Unfriendly Death.
  • Child Prodigy: Being the child of Gohan and personally trained by Vegito will do this for you. Unlike GT Pan and U18 Pan, U16 Pan is a reasonably powerful competitor who can already become a Super Saiyan.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Goes up against someone who is massively stronger than her, ignoring her father's warnings about the strength difference and her opponent's brutality. As soon as Bojack gets serious she's overpowered and killed in short order.
  • Family-Unfriendly Death: Bojack strangles her slowly before proceeding to snap her neck.
  • Morality Pet: To Bra. She's one of the only people in the comic that gets Bra to show her softer and more "human" side. When Pan is killed by Bojack, Bra's ready to murder the Space Pirate right there and had to be talked down by Gohan.
  • Neck Snap: How she gets killed by Bojack.
  • Nice Girl: One of the sweetest characters in the web comic, which is amazing given how dysfunctional her universe is thanks to Vegito and Bra. It also makes her newfound hostility towards Bra, who she once idolised, all the more serious.
  • Older Than She Looks: Pan is 14 years old by the time of DBM, but looks much younger. Once Asura stepped in as the main artist of the webcomic, he began to draw her as looking closer to her age.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Though the smallest and youngest member of U16 at age fourteen, she can kick more ass than most adults.
  • Uneven Hybrid: Pan is a quarter Saiyan through her grandfather Goku and three-quarters human.
