  • Gamer Chick: She’s one of Kou’s opponents in Gate of Avalon, though she takes her loss to him personally, even in the ending of the After Story.

Voiced by: Mutsumi Tamura

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akira_10.png

The other newer SPiKA member along with Wakaba.

  • Gender-Blender Name: Akira is usually a boy's name, but this is mitigated somewhat by her being a Tomboy by nature.
  • Only Six Faces: She and Sora look similar to each other, with only their demeanor to differ them.
  • The Quiet One: If she does talk, it tends to be in rather brief sentences.

Nemesis

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nemesis_54.png

An organization dedicated to monitoring and managing the Eclipse. Nemesis was the first group that confirmed the Eclipse's being.

  • Ancient Order of Protectors: Their origins are stated by Asuka to be traced back to the European middle ages, where they functioned as a secret order of mystic practitioners and alchemists, although their intentions and aims are not disclosed. After World War II and the confirmation of the existence of the Eclipse however, their methods changed and they began to operate more proactively, resulting in the multinational outfit they are by the game's present, with branches across the planet alongside their primary London headquarters.
  • Benevolent Conspiracy: They are an organization that operates from the shadows with the goal of maintaining balance between the real world and the Eclipse, although they are ultimately said to operate on the same logic as their underworld counterparts.
  • Magic Knight: Nemesis' anti-Eclipse combatants are known as Enforcers, and are expected to be highly competent in both the use of their Soul Devices and their organisation's arsenal of spells, with Enforcer training usually taking multiple years to complete. Asuka, the sole Enforcer present in the game, due to her skill and youth, is particularly noted to be under a lot of pressure from both herself and her superiors to uphold this ideal, so when she goes missing in Chapter 5, Nemesis decides to wait and see what happens rather than send in reinforcements, seeing it as an opportunity for her to prove her worth.
  • Title Drop: It was the founder of Nemesis who coined the term 'Xanadu' to describe the alternate worlds that manifest under the Eclipse.

    Mizuhara

Mizuhara

Voiced by: Eiji Takemoto

A pharmacist working at a Nemesis-affiliated pharmaceutical company. Besides working as an everyday employee at Sakura Pharmacy, he also does research on medicines made with ingredients from the Eclipse.

  • Professor Guinea Pig: He mentions that he needs to test his Eclipse-based medicines on himself, since he has no one else to try them.
  • Taken for Granite: He gets pulled into the alternate Morimiya and is found frozen in Sakura Pharmacy. Kou and company frees him with an Affinity Shard's help.

    Yamaoka

Yamaoka

Voiced by: Takayuki Sugo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yamaoka.PNG

The proprietor of a Brick Alley cafe, and Asuka's landlord.

  • Chekhov's Gunman: For most of the story, he's only in the background and gives Kou some background information about Asuka. Later, it's revealed that since he helped develop the Xiphone's base technology, he knows about its special mode, which lets the user communicate with others even if there's no signal.
  • The Engineer: He was once Nemesis's head engineer, and worked to develop the Xiphone's base technology.
  • Sword Cane: He defeats a bunch of Greeds with a sword hidden in his cane.

Zodiac

    In General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zodiac.png

An organization dedicated to use the Eclipse for its own ends. It is a conglomerate of twelve major companies along with thousands of smaller companies that make up the "secondary Zodiac". One of the big twelve is the Hokuto Group.

  • Corporate Samurai: Zodiac's anti-Eclipse forces, Angraecum, are an elite group of gaurds who work to maintain order in Zodiac. Yukimura was formerly of this group, and is able to call on other former members for assistance when Morimiya is cut off from the rest of the world in the endgame. Interestingly, from how people talk about them, they appear to be feared even within Zodiac, with the usual tone being one of either wariness or disgust.
  • MegaCorp: If the influence of the Hokuto Group is a given throughout the main twelve, then Zodiac is more like an entire family of mega-corps, with numerous follower corporations across the planet.

    Seijuuro Hokuto

Seijuurou Hokuto

Voiced by: Hirohiko Kakegawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/seijuurou.png

Mitsuki's grandfather and the current leader of the Hokuto Group.

  • Final Boss: Serves as the final opponent in the Gate of Avalon mini-game. Defeating him twice in succession nets you the strongest Wind-elemental Master Core.
  • Old Friend: He's been friends with Sousuke since their school days.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: His previously intended successor, Mitsuki's father, whom we currently assume to be his son, died before the game's start, forcing him to remain in control until (as he hopes) Mitsuki succeeds him.

    Kyouka Yukimura

Kyouka Yukimura

Voiced by: Chiaki Takahashi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kyouka_7.png

Mitsuki's secretary and a former member of Angraecum, Zodiac's Anti-Eclipse forces. Her work ranges from doing normal secretarial work to acting as Mitsuki's bodyguard.

  • Bodyguard Babes: She regularly trains in order to protect Mitsuki.
  • Bodyguard Crush: In the Epilogue, it's hinted that she might have a thing with Seijuurou, as she acts flustered when he offers to buy her a new pair of glasses.
  • Combat Stilettos: She wears a pair of formal high heel work shoes, which she uses to great effect when she needs to get up close and personal with potential threats to Mitsuki and Seijuurou. In Chapter 6, she incapacitates Mikuriya by directly kicking him in the face with her high heel before he could get his hands on Rion again, allowing her to apprehend him on the spot.
  • Cool Big Sis: She often times acts as this towards her younger superior, making her one of the few people Mitsuki is open with.
  • Retired Badass: She's a retired Angraecum member who now serves as the Hokuto's bodyguard and secretary, but is still capable of combat when she needs to. In the Final Chapter, she temporarily reunites with her group to make a last stand against the Greeds and allow the X.R.C. to break into Pandora.

    Tomoaki Mikuriya

Tomoaki Mikuriya

Voiced by: Hisayoshi Suganuma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mikuriya.png

The 29-year-old heir to the Mikuriya Group, a company that is not one of the big twelve of Zodiac, but still exerts considerable influence. Mikuriya is a candidate for the position of leader of Zodiac.

  • And Now You Must Marry Me: Subverted. At first, it seems like his arranged marriage with Mitsuki falls in line with his ambitions. He later reveals that he hates the arranged marriage and implies that it won't increase his family's prestige as much as he'd like. His real plan to climb the Zodiac hierarchy is to control a Grim Greed and he's willing to kill his fiancée and her friends to achieve his goal.
  • Arc Villain: He's ultimately responsible for the events of both Chapter 5 and Chapter 6, with the former being just a test experiment for the latter. He aimed to control the Angel-type Grim Greed within Rion, all just to make his family name look good in front of the Hokuto Group and Zodiac.
  • Arranged Marriage: There are talks about possibly setting one up between him and 18-year-old Mitsuki. He ruins it after messing with Rion in Chapter 6.
  • The Cavalry: In the Final Chapter, Mikuriya saves the heroes from a Breed of Dawn with the help of an attack helicopter equipped with Spirit Missiles, which lets them go on to Pandora.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: In Chapter 6, he reveals that his goal is to take control of a Grim Greed and bolster his family's position within Zodiac. He loses control of the Greed and gets smacked aside as a result.
  • First-Name Basis: Addresses Mitsuki as "Mitsuki-kun", and likewise, she addresses him as "Tomoaki-san". After his scheme fails, she addresses him as "Mikuriya-san", showing that she's distancing herself from him. He still addresses her by her first name, albeit as "Mitsuki-san" instead.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After being saved by the party in the last chapter, as well as being tended to Rion, he decides to help clear the way for them by bringing a battle chopper to fend off a Breed of Dawn. After the battle, he pays for all the decorations and set-up for the Autumn Festival, truly showing that he's trying to atone for his mistakes.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Behind his smug attitude, he secretly thinks that the Mikuriya group is considered a laughingstock within Zodiac and calls his arranged marriage with Mitsuki a sick joke, implying that he resents the Hokuto group for being more prestigious.
  • Karma Houdini: Is disgraced, and loses his shot at being Mitsuki's husband, but otherwise suffers no serious consequences for triggering two Grim Greed incidents and nearly getting Rion killed. He still has enough power and wealth to deploy a battle helicopter in the final battle.
  • Narcissist: His profile describes him as such.
  • Obviously Evil: While he tries to play the role of a loyal Zodiac member, his pompous tone makes it obvious that he's not to be trusted.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: Played for laughs in the After Story when it turns out that the fashion coordinator he’s been talking to online was Kaoru, with Kou leaving him to his fate.

    Akane

Akane

Voiced by: Erina Tanaka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akane.PNG

A woman working at Star Camera and also an engineer working for Zodiac.

  • The Engineer: Akane is one of Zodiac's top-grade engineers who works undercover in Star Camera, and provides tools and upgrades for the X.R.C. to help them out with the Eclipse regardless of their affiliation.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She's often cold but polite as part of customer service, but every now and then, she shows some of her warmer side.
  • Taken for Granite: In the After Story, she and Tsubasa are frozen in the alternate Star Camera. Kou and company manage to free them with the help of an Affinity Shard.

Allies

The people from whom Kou and company can generally get help when it comes to the Eclipse.

    Sousuke Kokonoe

Sousuke Kokonoe

Voiced by: Takayuki Sugo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sousuke.png

Kou and Towa's grandfather, a priest at the Kokone shrine, and head of the family's jujitsu style.

  • Old Friend: With Seijuurou. They've known each other since they were still students.
  • Old Master: He’s this to Kokonoe-style martial arts that neither Kou, Towa nor Sora can beat him in sparring matches.
  • Retired Badass: He was part of the group that helped destroy the Twilight Apostle during the disaster, and so he knows about the Eclipse.

    Yukino

Yukino

Voiced by: Chiaki Takahashi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yukino.PNG

A woman who owns an antique shop in Brick Alley and is also the one who provides Kou with various part-time jobs.

  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Yukino has a vast array of valuable information, and when push comes to shove, she'll even get involved directly and fight Greeds with special tarot cards. However, most of the time, she just wants to lay back in her store and do nothing. She even admits that she doesn't like doing shop business in-general, which got Kou thinking about why she decided to run a shop in the first place.
  • Death Dealer: Uses a deck of Tarot cards to fight the Greeds.
  • The Gadfly: She loves to tease Kou at every opportunity she gets because it amuses her.
  • Knowledge Broker: She's probably one of the most well-connected people in the game, having intel on everything and everyone in the Underworld. Kou even lampshades this at one point, sarcastically wondering if she has the whole city bugged.
  • Mysterious Past: Not much of Yukino's past is known outside of her work, but the game drops very subtle hints that her history and relationship with Kou could be more than just simple employer and employee. She seems to have known Kou for a very long time prior to the start of the game, and at one point in the After Story, Yukino "jokingly" refers to herself as being like an "older sister" to Kou, of whom she has been watching over. However, the exact details about their past relationship as well as how and when they first met are never revealed. Which combined with how mischievous Yukino is in front of Kou, leaves everything about her past up to the player's imagination.
  • No Name Given: Her last name is never shown. This by itself isn't too unusual, since other side characters get the same treatment, but when she's introduced with the name of her voice actress, only "Yukino" is shown.
  • Taken for Granite: In the After Story, Yukino gets frozen inside a crystal after she gets transported to Shadow Morimiya. She gets freed when Kou uses an Affinity Shard along with Jun's spell.

    Mayu

Mayu

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mayu.PNG

An apprentice girl and granddaughter to the owner of Kuguraya.

  • The Blacksmith: While not quite on Jihei's level, she is slowly getting there thanks to his training, and she can pretty much do the same tasks as him. Her dream is to create the ultimate Spirit Arm for her friend Asuka in the future.
  • Genki Girl: Mayu is always so energetic and excited about creating Spirit Arms for anyone, especially the X.R.C.. Her energy may explain why she's able to handle Jihei's strict training methods.

    Jihei

Jihei

Voiced by: Takayuki Sugo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jihei.PNG

A master smith who can make weapons, armors, and elements from Eclipse materials. He is also Mayu's grandfather, and he is training her to be a spirit arms craftsman.

  • The Blacksmith: He's held in high regard among the Underground because of his status of being the greatest Spirit Arms artisan in Morimiya. He can modify Soul Devices, synthesize elements from Eclipse materials, forge effective weapons and armor against Greeds, and during the Final Chapter, has created numerous barrier devices to keep the Greeds at bay and protect the citizens from harm.
  • Eyepatch of Power: He's always seen wearing an eyepatch over his right eye. It is presumed that he lost his eye in either an Eclipse or during the Tokyo Twilight Disaster.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While Jihei can come off as very rough, intimidating, and condescending to anyone he meets, especially towards his granddaughter Mayu, deep down, he still cares for the safety of anyone involved with the Eclipse. His heart of gold side even shows itself more in Chapter 5 when he visits Mayu at the hospital concerned about her health after she was taken away by the Grim Greed's Kin.

Aoi Shinomiya

Voiced by: Sayaka Maeda

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aoishinomiya.PNG

Yuuki's older sister and an art museum curator.

  • Cool Big Sis: Sora admires how loving she is towards Yuuki, but he doesn't seem to like her constant doting on him.
  • Distressed Damsel: Her consciousness is stolen by an Elder Greed, and even after they free it, another one steals back before it can return to her.
  • Nice Girl: She's a very caring older sister, no matter how rude her little bro might be.
  • Sir Not-Appearing-in-This-Trailer: She does not appear in any promotional material for the game, despite her role in Yuuki's story.
  • Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: In Chapter 3, Aoi gets spirited away into an Eclipse labyrinth after she receives a jarring prediction from God's App. Kou, Asuka, and Sora manage to defeat the Elder Greed and save her. But then another Elder Greed, which turns out to be the true perpetrator behind the App incidents, appears and steals Aoi's spirit (essentially her soul) into another labyrinth, leaving her body behind as an empty shell. Her spirit is returned to her body when the students along with Yuuki defeat the Elder Greed causing the incidents.

    Eiji Gotou

Eiji Gotou

Voiced by: Eiji Takemoto

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gotou.png

The young second-in-command of the Takahane Group.

  • BFG: In the Final Chapter, he wields a minigun loaded with spirit-enhanced bullets to mow down several Elder Greeds with. It's implied by Gorou that the minigun could be a smuggled weapon from the JSDF.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Comes to aid the party in the last chapter alongside Akihiro, taking out 3 out the 6 Elder Greeds.
  • Expy: Looks a lot like Kazuma Kiryuu.
  • Neighbourhood-Friendly Gangsters: Dealing drugs on Yakuza territory is a no-no, and when an Eclipse gang starts dealing, he tries to shut them down.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Shady as the Yakuza are (both in this game and in real life), this guy isn't a complete dick. He's open to hearing others out, will back down if presented with proof, and becomes a staunch ally of XRC once they help him prevent a turf war that would embroil all of Morimiya in violence.
  • Yakuza: He's the waka gashira of the Takahane Group.

    Akihiro Inui

Akihiro Inui

Voiced by: Shunsuke Kanie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akihiro_5.png
Click here to see him after he changes.

The new leader of BLAZE who has sent the gang into a more radical direction since Shio left.

  • Advertised Extra: He received some notable pre-release advertisement, despite having no bigger a role than Chiaki or Aoi, who weren't advertised at all.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Back when Shio was still co-leading BLAZE, he called him "Aki", but he doesn't want to hear it from him now. Until his Heel–Face Turn, that is.
  • Arc Villain: Of Chapter 4. He tries to revive BLAZE in hopes of getting back at their rival gang CHAOS for killing their previous leader Kazuma a couple of years prior, and he's willing to use as many underhanded tactics as he can, like consuming a dangerous drug made from Eclipse ingredients to boost his strength. However, towards the end of the chapter, Aki overdoses himself to the point that he ends up being the focal point of an Eclipse labyrinth, and gets kidnapped by the same Elder Greed that supplied his gang the ingredients. By then, he becomes just as much a victim to the Eclipse as everyone else.
  • Bad Boss: He uses intimidation to keep his minions obedient, which causes them to abandon him when he gets sucked into the Eclipse. He wasn't able to inspire true loyalty in them like Kazuma and Shio.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Comes to aid the party in the last chapter alongside Gotou, taking out 3 out the 6 Elder Greeds.
  • Cardboard Prison: Downplayed. He’s in prison, but still surprises Kou as his opponent in Gates of Avalon.
  • Delinquent Hair: As a villain in Chapter 4, in contrast to flashbacks, where his head was shaved. His head is shaved in prison which is not only par for the course in Japanese prisons, but symbolic of him turning over a new leaf.
  • Freudian Excuse: He was kidnapped by the CHAOS gang, leading to Kazuma getting stabbed by the CHAOS leader to save him. This causes him to become obsessed with getting revenge on CHAOS and becoming powerful through Eclipse drugs, to the point where he becomes no better than CHAOS in abusing his power.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After Shio knocks some sense into him at the end of Chapter 4, he seems to finally learn his lesson. He later shows in the final chapter to aid the heroes.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Played with. Asuka states that his usage of the HEAT drug makes him and his gang powerful, this also leaves them vulnerable to Soul Devices in the real world. However, Akihiro is sucked into an Eclipse before the party can fight him, though this trope still applies because the drugs caused the Eclipse to appear.
  • Japanese Delinquents: He leads a group of them.

    Kenichi Kurashiki

The flamboyant owner of a boutique shop at Brick Alley.

  • Camp Gay: Besides his flamboyant personality, it's stated that he hits on men whom he is interested in.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Because "Kaoru" is a unisex name, and because Kaoru's speech is rather feminine, Mikuriya thought that Kaoru was a woman when talking to him online. When he meets Kaoru in the flesh, he realizes his mistake, but by then, it's too late.
  • Taken for Granite: In the After Story, he gets kidnapped by the Twilight Apostle and is found frozen in his boutique shop. After he's freed, he's rather disappointed that Jun, who's wearing his Seal Knight outfit, isn't going to an awesome costume party.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Despite his campy and sometimes business-first nature, he drops his flirtations and becomes very caring to his fellow residents in the Final Chapter when Morimiya is trapped in the Eclipse. He immediately gives shelter to a shopper from out of town who was trapped in the city and he even goes further than that by offering free clothing to those who are freezing in the Eclipse's chill - and making sure that the clothes he gives look good to help the wearer's morale.

Voiced by: Atsushi Abe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/demonprincerean.PNG

Magical Girl Alisa's arch-nemesis. He is a demon prince who is keen to cover the whole world with darkness.

  • Company Cross References: He's based on Rean Schwarzer, who's from another Falcom game. His appearance is essentially the same as a costume that Rean had in that game.
  • Laughably Evil: Despite being the main antagonist of the Magical Girl Alisa series, one of the in-game novels pokes fun at his bizarre fashion sense and over-the-top speeches.

    Rem

Rem

Voiced by: Mai Kadowaki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rem_12.png

A mysterious girl seen various times at many parts of the world. She seems to know everything about the Eclipse, but her willingness to talk is masked with her cryptic speech.

  • Actual Pacifist: The boss fight against the Five-Tailed Fox aside (since it was meant to test out the X.R.C.'s abilities), Rem prefers to not get directly involved with the Greeds, and simply observes the group from afar as they fight their way through the Eclipse.
  • Ambiguous Gender: While she has a feminine-leaning androgynous appearance and is referred to with feminine terms and pronouns in the English translation, her official biography in the Japanese website refers to her as “A mysterious girl (?)”, does not refer to Rem with any pronouns, states that many things about her (including her gender) are unknown and in the Japanese script, she refers to herself with the masculine “boku”.
  • Big Good: She's the only benevolent being from the Eclipse, and is actually responsible for giving Kou his Soul Device (and possibly the other Morimiya students too, excluding Asuka and Mitsuki). Overall, she simply observes the X.R.C.'s actions to see if they can overcome the challenges ahead and find their answers.
  • Cool Mask: Rem carries a fox mask with her. And when she wears it, she can transform into the Five-Tailed Fox Greed.
  • Cute Monster Girl: It's hinted that Rem is actually a humanoid Greed.
  • Nice Girl: Mischievous though she might be, she's got good intentions, such as giving Kou his Soul Device, helping him rescue Shiori, and even appearing to a fledgling photographer to give him hope in his struggling career.
  • The Tease: According to Sousuke in a sidequest in the Epilogue, she likes to put innuendos in her riddles.
  • Time Stands Still: Rem has control over time to some degree, and she can freeze time on anyone who are not Wielders. She mainly uses this to privately discuss with certain people without interruptions though, and never uses it for combat purposes.
  • Token Heroic Orc: While Greeds are known for creating chaos and destruction, Rem helps the heroes and is more keen to "observe" things than participate in harming people.

Princess of Doom

The true form of the Shiori Kurashiki seen in the main game.

  • Affably Evil: She shows sympathy towards Kou and actually seems sad about the Lie situation, but is still insistent on maintaining that Lie despite the resulting Greed outbreak.
  • Big Bad: She's revealed to be the main antagonist of the original game.
  • Bishoujo Line: Her first form is her torso on top of a large beast's body. Her second form looks more humanoid and while less tanky and physically powerful compared to her first form, her speed and magic attacks are better.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Trying to enforce her Lie across Japan and the world, regardless of the consequences in terms of Eclipse manifestation, is simply what she does. And even if the Lie was originally created for Kou's happiness, she's willing to kill Kou if he gets in her way. This is likely due to Greeds having destructive instincts.
  • Disappears into Light: She fades into the light after being defeated. However, Kou and his party manage to bring her back in the epilogue.
  • Doomy Dooms of Doom: Her title is "Princess of Doom".
  • Final Boss: She's the last enemy fought in the main game.
  • For Happiness: The reason for her existence in the first place. She doesn't want Kou to deal with the grief of losing a close friend, and created a ten-year long illusion to make him think that Shiori is still alive and well.
  • Redemption Demotion: Justified. After being revived in the True Ending, she is no longer fused with the Twilight Apostle, which means she has neither its powers nor its destructive impulses.
  • Ret-Gone: In the normal ending, she disappears after getting defeated by Kou and his party and everyone who does not have affinity to "Xanadu" forgets her existence.
    • Cosmic Retcon: In the epilogue, she is brought back to life as the real Shiori Kurashiki, with everyone remembering her (and in fact, they forget that they forgot her). And as ex+ shows, this is the canon ending.
  • Sequential Boss: Transforms into a gigantic monster called the "Nether Beast" (ranked as a Class 4S Grim Greed) for the first phase, and then the "Princess of Doom", a Winged Humanoid (ranked as a Class 5 XXX Greed) for the second phase in Final Boss fight.
  • Stripperiffic: In contrast to regular Shiori, her outfit barely hides anything at all.
  • That Man Is Dead: Both literally and figuratively. The real Shiori died ten years ago, and she claims to Kou and the X.R.C. directly that the "Shiori" they have been spending time with for all this time, is just a lie to make Kou happy.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: The real Shiori died 10 years ago during the earthquake. The girl we've been seeing for most of the game is actually the result of a fusion between her and the Twilight Apostle. Needless to say, nobody, especially not Shiori herself, saw this coming until the big reveal.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: She notes that the invention of the Xiphone lead to information being spread around the world faster, which caused her illusion of Shiori still being alive in Morimiya to clash with the rest of the outside world, which considers Shiori dead. The resulting paradox caused a massive increase in Eclipse activity making up the events of the game, so in order to fix this, Shiori attempts to drag all of Japan (and possibly the entire world) into Pandora's Box to keep the illusion going and stabilize the Eclipse. The problem is that it puts more people in danger of being killed by Greeds in the process, something that Kou and the X.R.C. will not stand by and let happen.

The Nine-Tailed Fox

Voiced by: ???

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nine_tailed_fox_3.jpg

A giant fox-like being hidden within Morimiya.

  • Asian Fox Spirit: He is a kitsune with nine tails compared to the five tailed one fought the month before.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: His little Cosmic Retcon at the end of the Epilogue that negated Shiori's death? Yeah, it had the side effect of negating the Twilight Apostle's destruction 10 years prior, allowing it another attempt to wreak havoc on an even bigger scale. While also applicable to the heroes, it holds the most responsibility in this.
  • True Final Boss: As the boss of the Epilogue, he is this to the main story.

The Twilight Apostle/Specter of Twilight

Voiced by: ???

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/twilightapostle.jpg

A "Myth-Class" XXX Greed responsible for ravaging Tokyo 10 years prior to the start of the game.

  • Always Chaotic Evil: Despite having more intelligence than other Greeds, it mainly follows its destructive impulses, which is why Kou thinks that it's ultimately no different from the less intelligent Greeds.
  • Barrier Warrior: The black flames on its body can soak up attacks, though attacking rapidly enough will allow the player to deal damage.
  • The Chessmaster: The Twilight Apostle has been manipulating the fates of all the X.R.C. members and their close friends throughout the whole game just so it can be reborn and cause destruction again. It's been able to reach as far back into the past in order to interact with the X.R.C. indirectly via the dark Eclipse gates, which explains why it's able to bypass the Cosmic Retcon despite technically not existing prior to the Epilogue.
  • Creepy Child: Takes this form for most of the After-Story. Specifically, it's based its appearance on 7-year old Kou.
  • Die Laughing: When it goes down for good in the After-Story.
  • Eldritch Abomination: A gigantic black shadow of monster that pretty much showed up out of nowhere, nearly destroyed Tokyo, and has the ability to warp reality (as shown with its ability to make a death "a lie").
  • Faux Affably Evil: After being separated from Shiori, it becomes much more malicious than when it was the Princess of Doom. It acts like a playful, but sadistic child in order to unnerve the party.
  • Final Boss: Of the After-Story as the "Specter of Twilight", making it the True Final Boss of eX+.
  • Flunky Boss: It can summon Element Greeds and any mook that isn't killed at the end of a phase is brought into the next phase.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: Defied. The form it takes as a 7-year old Kou is not a decision it made on its own, but rather forced onto it by an unconcious decision from Shiori when it merged with her. It still benefited from this form, however, as it allowed it escape detection from the underground and mess with the X.R.C. without looking like a conspicuous giant monster.
  • Generic Doomsday Villain: Even though it’s the strongest Greed in the game befitting a True Final Boss, Kou feels it’s just like every other one they’ve killed by the thousands.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: It was the ultimate cause of the disaster 10 years ago, but was apparently destroyed not that long after it appeared, leaving it exclusive to the backstory. The most you have to deal with during the main story are brought about by its kin. eX+'s After-Story, on the other hand, has it come back and become a proper Big Bad.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Combined with Clipped-Wing Angel. After its first two phases, it loses its legs and its infamous Hollow Quake. This is balanced out by how the player is limited to two-person parties during the third and fourth phases.
  • HP to One: In the third and fourth phases, it can grab the player character and reduce their HP to 1, but the player can switch to the partner in order to choose who gets hit.
  • It Can Think: Downplayed: as Kou points out, it is capable of thought, but it still follows its instincts like an animal.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Its ultimate goal is to cause reality to unravel in such a way that it'll collapse in on itself. In layman's terms, it wants to destroy of all existence and everyone in it.
  • Power of the Void: It not only has void as an element, but wants to destroy the world to nothingness.
  • Psychopathic Man Child: Even after shedding its disguise, it still keeps the child-like voice and speech patterns (complete with referring to itself with the Japanese Pronoun "boku"), which gives off these vibes.
  • Reality Warper: The Twilight Apostle has total control over reality, and it can manipulate it in any way it pleases. It is also the creator of "Shadow Morimiya"; an alternate reality separate from the original Morimiya City.
  • Recurring Boss: Downplayed. Technically, the party fought it earlier as the normal Final Boss, which is a fusion of it and Shiori.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: The only real physical difference between its disguise and young Kou.
  • Sequential Boss: After the Specter of Twilight's health bar is depleted the first time, it loses the lower half of its body (becoming even more aggressive in the process) for another fight. Taken even further during the After-Story's version of the fight, compared to the Boss Attack version, as you actually have to all 10 party members to battle it, for a grand total of 4 phases.
  • Shapeshifter Guilt Trip: At one point in After-Story, it takes form of Futaba in front of Gorou to taunt him. It briefly works until the party snaps Gorou out of it.
