     Izuku Midoriya

Izuku Midoriya

Quirk: Devil Fruits (Officially), Quirkless (Technically)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_7515.png

A young Quirkless boy who ended up eating a mysterious fruit that granted him a near-endless myriad of powers at the cost of his ability to swim.

  • Adaptational Badass: Gaining the power of the Devil Fruits and being trained by Rayleigh made Izuku much more competent than in canon. He's still a huge shy dork, though.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Instead of getting One For All, Izuku ends up eating a Devil Fruit that bestows upon him the power of every Devil Fruit from the world of One Piece.
  • Chubby Chaser: He doesn't mind Hilda putting on the pounds in order to train her body to harness One For All. In fact, Hilda fattened herself up because he actually liked 'bigger' girls.
  • Composite Character: A downplayed example, but him having Garp for a grandfather means he's either this trope or Crossover Relatives with Monkey D. Luffy.
  • Endearingly Dorky: Despite his Adaptational Badass status, he's still the same Hero-loving, Quirk-analyzing, shy-around-girls nerd everyone knows and loves him as.
  • Super Drowning Skills: Having eaten a Devil Fruit, he naturally cannot swim.
  • Superpower Lottery: Given that he can literally use every Devil Fruit from One Piece, it's to be expected. He even literally says himself that he's a "Swiss army knife of superpowers".
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Does this for Mineta, using the Castle-Castle Fruit to give him an opening to beat Todoroki during combat training.
  • Wrong Context Magic: Izuku's powers are NOT a Quirk, as is frequently stated. They come from the Devil Fruit he ate.

     Hilda Yasakani

Hilda Yasakani

Quirk: Optimal Condition + One For All

Additional Quirks: Danger Sense, Smokescreen, Blackwhip, Float, Fa Jin, Gearshift

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hilda_65.png
Click here to see her when she was skinny

Izuku's best friend. A spunky, laid-back, and carefree girl who ends up taking her friend's place as All-Might's chosen successor.

  • Acrofatic: Despite her bulk, Hilda demonstrates surprising levels of agility in her fight against Bakugo during combat training.
  • Ass Kicks You: Her first point in the UA Entrance Exam comes from crushing one of the training robots with her posterior.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: While training to inherit One For All, She fattens herself up to better handle the power and to give homage to Fat Gum. In no way does this detract from her beauty or combat capabilities due to how her Quirk, Optimal Condition, ensures that she always remains in peak physical condition.
  • Big Damn Kiss: After the events of the USJ, she kisses Izuku full on the lips in gratitude for him saving her from being killed by Shigaraki.
  • Changing Yourself for Love: One of the many reasons Hilda plumped up is to cater to Izuku's fetish.
  • Cooldown Hug: She gives one to Kota as a means of comforting him over the grief over his parents' death.
  • Fat and Proud: She sees no problem in being fat, even finding herself much more attractive as a result of putting on the pounds. In fact, she deliberately fattens herself up to get stronger.
  • Groin Attack: She delivers one to Gus the Ogre, which is hard enough to make him throw up and leave him vulnerable to All-Might's arrival.
  • Healing Factor: Her original Quirk, Optimal Condition, keeps her in a constant state of peak physical condition. This helps in keeping her nimble and strong despite fattening herself up to better handle One For All's power.
  • No-Sell: Shrugs off Shinso's attempt to brainwash her due to Optimal Condition adapting her body against any form of damage.
  • Semantic Superpower: Her Optimal Condition Quirk keeps her in a perfect state of health and that means not just keeping her physicality up despite gaining weight to bulk up for One For All but also heals her from injuries, even fatal ones, and allows her to resist mind control by developing new neural pathways.
  • The Tease: She loves playfully flirting with Izuku for the sake of embarrassing him.

     Benio "Ben" Torekuroshi

Benio "Ben" Torekuroshi

Quirk: Elemental Manipulation (Officially), Quirkless (Technically)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ben_42.png

A mysterious young man that Izuku befriends at the Entrance Exam. He wields a strange elemental power that is far beyond the range of any Quirk in existence, because it actually comes from multiple Quirks infused into him by All For One as part of something called "Project: Dragoon".

  • Always Someone Better: He's this to Todoroki, not only having access to Fire and Ice but countless other elements as well.
  • Author Avatar: He's this to the story's creator, Knightmare Lord.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Straight-up demolishes Monoma during the Sports Festival finals while tearing down the egotistical blonde's delusions.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: All For One tried to use him as an experiment and assassin, but he chose to become a hero after being saved during a raid headed by All Might.
  • Elemental Powers: His power allows him to harness the Elements ranging from Fire, Water, Earth, Air, and more.
  • Heroic RRoD: Overusing his powers can cause serious cellular decay, first demonstrated after his battle with Shoto in the Sports Festival.
  • Original Character: He's a character created solely for the story.
  • Ship Tease: Implied to have feelings for Penny after he displays unusual levels of protectiveness towards her during the battle against Stain.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Delivers one to Monoma during their Sports Festival match highlighting the blonde copycat's delusional arrogance and hypocrisy in mocking others over things they cannot control when Monoma himself had been mocked by other people for his Quirk, all the while casually defeating him in the match.
    • Gives another one to Shoto during their Sports Festival fight, calling him a coward for his refusal to use his fire powers just to spite Endeavor and telling him that he'll never be a hero if he doesn't give his all. He then shows him a future in which his actions have dreadful consequences. This manages to get through to Shoto.
  • Wrong Context Magic: He's technically Quirkless as his powers are not quirk related. This is was the reason Monoma was unable to copy them.

     Kirby Sakurai

Kirby Sakurai

Quirk: Hoshino Hoyo *

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kirby_01.jpg

A cheerful, friendly, and optimistic girl with a bottomless appetite who is secretly an alien from another planet. She is Katsuki Bakugou's girlfriend and the primary reason he's managed to mellow out.

  • Adaptational Species Change: Downplayed. Kirby was a puffball creature in his home series. While this version of Kirby is still an alien, she has a more human-like appearance.
  • Alien Among Us: She reveals herself as an alien from another planet and passes her powers off as a Quirk.
  • Big Eater: It wouldn't be Kirby otherwise.
  • Gender Flip: In the original games, Kirby is usually a boy. Here, Kirby is a girl.
  • Human Aliens: She's an extraterrestrial being, but she easily passes off as an ordinary human.
  • Morality Pet: She serves as this to Katsuki. Her presence has made him much more cool-headed than he used to be.
  • Official Couple: She and Katsuki are this together. It's thanks to their relationship that Katsuki Took a Level in Kindness.
  • Shout-Out: Her last name is a reference to Masahiro Sakurai, the man behind the Kirby and Super Smash Bros. series.
  • Wrong Context Magic: Her powers aren't actually a Quirk. They're a natural part of her unique alien physiology.

     Penny Polendina

Penny Polendina

Quirk: Buster Arsenal *

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/penny_18.png

A quirky and friendly girl with the unique power to copy the basis of other people's Quirks and create a near-limitless arsenal of weapons and tools based on them.

  • The Ace: She's this by virtue of being one of the students who made it into UA's Hero Course via Recommendation.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Somehow her cybernetic systems are able to quantify Quirk factors (which, in canon, aren't very well known beyond the basics), and copy them to use for her own ability.
  • Expy: With her Robotic Reveal, her Power Copying suddenly becomes quite reminiscent to that of Mega Man.
  • Ridiculously Human Robots: She was able to pass for human for months before part of her synthetic skin got accidentally torn off during the Sports Festival. She's even shown to be able to blush when Ben refers to her as "[his] Penny".
  • Robot Girl: She's an android who can think and feel like a regular human.
  • Variant Power Copying: Penny can scan other people and assimilate their Quirk Factor to create new weapons and gadgets based on the Quirk she scanned.

UA High

Class 1-A

     Katsuki Bakugou

Katsuki Bakugou

Quirk: Explosion

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bakugo.png

Izuku's old childhood friend turned rival. Initially rude, selfish, and hot-tempered, Katsuki mellows out considerably due to a multitude of factors.

  • Adaptational Badass: Possesses Conqueror's Haki in addition to his explosion-based Quirk.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: He and Izuku are on less hostile terms thanks to Kirby's stabilizing influence, though they still have some unresolved issues from their childhood.
  • Excellent Judge of Character: Immediately exposes Yo Shindo's efforts to ingratiate himself with Class 1-A as the sham it is, noting that his body language does not match up with his words.
  • Official Couple: Him and Kirby.
  • Secret-Keeper: Izuku and Hilda trust him with the secret of One For All, seeing as how he's managed to prove himself trustworthy thanks to his improved behavior.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: By the time Izuku and Hilda see him again at UA, he's become much more mellow, mostly thanks to his girlfriend Kirby's positive influence.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: In response to comments from a few Pro Heroes insinuating that Uraraka isn't strong enough to be a Pro Hero herself, Bakugo delivers a tongue-lashing that calls them out for their narrow-mindedness, stating that her unyielding determination to win even when her body refuses to go any further far outweighs any so-called "weakness".
  • Worthy Opponent: Expresses nothing but respect towards Uraraka for her unrelenting drive after she passes out on her feet from overcoming his Conqueror's Haki.

     Ochako Uraraka

Ochako Uraraka

Quirk: Zero Gravity

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/uraraka.png

A girl whom Izuku befriends and later rescues at the UA Entrance Exam.

  • Adaptational Badass: Can wield Armament Haki along with her Quirk.
  • Ambiguously Bi: She has started to develop feelings for Izuku like in canon but also seems to be crushing on Hilda as well.
  • Died Standing Up: A non-fatal example occurs during her Sports Festival match against Bakugo when Uraraka remains standing on her feet even after she falls unconscious from overcoming Bakugo's burst of Conquerer's Haki, still bearing the determined expression she had when she was about to land an Armament Haki-enhanced punch on him.
  • Secret-Keeper: She and Tenya along with Katsuki and Kirby, are let in on the secret of One For All by Izuku and Hilda.

     Tenya Iida

Tenya Iida

Quirk: Engine

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ida_5.png

A straight-laced young man and the younger brother of the Turbo Hero: Ingenium. After initially getting off on the wrong foot with Izuku during the Entrance Exam, he eventually becomes his friend.

  • Humble Hero: Despite wanting to become Class President more than anyone, he admitted that people usually see him as too uptight and was one of the people to vote for Izuku.
  • Secret-Keeper: Izuku and Hilda trust him enough to share the secret of One For All along with Katsuki, Ochako, and Kirby.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Absolutely rips into Stain's delusions by pointing out how his actions have only made worse by depriving families and friends of their loved ones along with depriving Japan of Pro Heroes who can potentially save more people.
Tenya Iida: Pardon my language...but that is complete and utter BULLSHIT! Not just Star Plasma, but all the other Heroes you've callously murdered have also saved lives! They could have saved countless more and shown they truly did have noble and heroic hearts, but you didn't give them the chance! How many people in Hosu are hospitalized, or worse, because a hero you removed wasn't there to help them? My brother had to give up hero work because your attack permanently damaged his legs! (...) This isn't some childhood comic fantasy, Stain! We're a rescue service first and foremost! Heroes are an ideal to strive for but at the end of the day, we're all human! My brother was a caring person that everyone looked up to. Star Plasma had a family as well. Friends and loved ones, the same can be said for ALL of your victims!
  • Sophisticated as Hell: His above speech has his normal manner of upright speaking... Coupled with a Precision F-Strike near the beginning.

     Shoto Todoroki

Shoto Todoroki

Quirk: Half-Cold Half-Hot

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/todoroki.png

The son of the #2 Pro Hero, Endeavor.

  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He's on the receiving end of one courtesy of Izuku and Mineta working together.
    • He's on the receiving end of another one at the hands of Ben during the Sports Festival, who takes the time to tear down his mentality of refusing to use his fire side.
  • I Work Alone: He tries to defeat Izuku and Mineta by himself during the Battle Trials and gets trounced by them both for his troubles.
  • Pride: His primary motivation for not using his flames is his grudge against his father. This grudge is over his harsh training despite his family situation not being as bad as it was in canon thanks to Garp's intervention.

     Momo Yaoyorozu

Momo Yaoyorozu

Quirk: Creation

Click here to see her when she was skinny

One of UA High's Recommendation Students.

  • Big Beautiful Woman: During an internship with Midnight and Tsuru, Momo ends up eating a giant cake monster alongside Kyouka and Mina and gains a ton of weight. While her friends shed the weight after internships, Momo decides to keep it in order to have more fuel for her Quirk.
  • Broken Ace: Despite being one of the Recommended Students, she feels unworthy of her place at UA, especially when Katsuki calls out her views on how one should learn to be a Hero as well as her defeat at Fumikage's hands during the Sports Festival. Thankfully, interning under Tsuru helps her build back up her confidence.
  • Fat and Proud: While initially greatly embarrassed over gaining so much weight, Momo eventually gets used to it, especially since it helps greatly with her Quirk.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Despite her wealthy upbringing, she's actually a very kind and modest girl.

  • Dope Slap: More like Dope PUNCH. She slugs Monoma square in the face for unnecessarily antagonizing Class 1-A.
  • Robot Girl: Her appearance invokes this trope, most in part due to her Quirk allowing her to transform her body into all sorts of technology and machinery at will.

  • Finger Poke of Doom: His Quirk allows him to superheat his index finger claws and transfer the heat through anything he touches with them.

  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: He can sprout extra arms with his Quirk, which can also summon scythes that he can use in combat.

The Dark Knights

     As A Whole
  • Adaptational Wimp: Word of God states that they won't be as powerful as their canon counterparts since the multiversal powers they had in Dark Nights would have made them too powerful for the story.
  • Badass Crew: They more than qualify for this title given how they've lost none of their edge over the long years of their supervillain career.
  • Balance Between Good and Evil: Stridently believe in maintaining a balance between heroism and villainy, with Merciless stating that "for darkness to continue thriving, the light must continue to shine."
  • Crossover Relatives: Are siblings of All for One, though they don't exactly hold him in high regard due to his single-minded obsession with having evil triumph over good.
  • Evil Old Folks: Have been around since the Dawn of Quirks and are infamous supervillains.
  • Long-Lived: Part of the reason why they've been active for so long is because they inherited their father's extremely powerful genes, allowing then to live far longer than most people.

The Batman Who Laughs

Quirk: Madness

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dcs_year_of_the_villain_special_vol_1_1_textless_batman_who_laughs_variant.jpg

The Leader of the Dark Knights.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Downplayed; he's still a crazy son of a gun, but at least he's not trying to recreate the multiverse in his own twisted image.
  • Ax-Crazy: This is the Batman Who Laughs we're talking about here, of course he's madder than a hatter.
  • Chain Pain: One of the applications of his Quirk allows him to spawn spiked chains that he can use to fight with.
  • Power Born of Madness: His Quirk allows him to essentially do anything that can be considered connected to the force of 'madness itself'. Essentially, this allows him to use just about any power he can imagine as long as it is related to madness in some way.

     Dawnbreaker

Dawnbreaker

Quirk: Spectrum Force

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/batman_the_dawnbreaker_vol_1_1_textless.jpg

The youngest of the Dark Knights.

  • Dude, Not Funny!: When Tomura loses his arms, he tries to lighten up his mood by telling him he doesn't have to worry about accidentally decaying his privates when masturbating...only to get unamused looks from his siblings.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: The youngest member of the group and the least mature, best shown with his remark about Shigaraki not having to worry about disintegrating his genitalia on accident after he loses his hands.

     Devastator

Devastator

Quirk: Doomsday

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/batman_the_devastator_vol_1_1_textless.jpg

The Muscle of the Dark Knights.

  • Adaptive Ability: His Quirk grants him all the powers of Doomsday, including the ability to adapt to anything that threatens his life and become resistant to it as well as develop counter-abilities.
  • The Brute: The biggest and toughest member of the gang.
  • Genius Bruiser: Despite his monstrous appearance, he is just as intelligent and wise as the rest of his siblings.

     Drowned

Drowned

Quirk: Ocean Master

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/batman_the_drowned_vol_1_1_textless.jpg

The sole female member of the Dark Knights.

  • Dark Action Girl: Given how long the Dark Knights have been around, it's safe to assume that she is more than capable of holding her own in combat.
  • Lord of the Ocean: Her Quirk allows her to command everything related to the ocean, including creating and manipulating water and communicating with marine life.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The sole female member of the group.

     Merciless

Merciless

Quirk: War God

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/batman__the_merciless_vol_1_1_textless_variant_001_0.jpg

The wisest of the Dark Knights.

  • Mentor Archetype: Seems to take this role the most seriously out of all his siblings, being the most prominent in mentoring Tomura to become a better villain.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: He calls out Dabi for his arrogance, telling him that his plans for revenge against his father will only result in him having nothing else if he succeeds.
  • Shout-Out: His ability to pull weapons from 'gates' brings to mind Gilgamesh.

     Murder Machine

Murder Machine

Quirk: Technomaster *

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/murder_9.jpeg

The most technologically advanced of the Dark Knights.

  • Artificial Intelligence: He's actually a fully-sentient AI inhabiting a robotic body. He was formerly human before having his brain uploaded into a computer, becoming a human-born AI in the process.
  • Mechanical Lifeform: He is basically a living machine due to his nature as an incredibly advanced AI inhabiting an equally advanced body.
  • Technopath: Being an artificial intelligence, his body is equipped with various built-in technological gadgets, weapons, and other functions. When he was still human, his Quirk allowed him to freely manipulate all technology around him.

     Red Death

Red Death

Quirk: Speed Force

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/batman_the_red_death_vol_1_1_textless.png

The fastest member of the Dark Knights.

     Grim Knight

Grim Knight

Quirk: Hidden Storage

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grim_4.png

The most heavily-armed member of the Dark Knights.

  • Adaptational Origin Connection: Canonically, he's not actually part of the Dark Knights from the DC Multiverse. He was made part of them for this story alone.
  • Hammerspace: His Quirk allows him to store a near-limitless supply of weapons, items, and objects away in his person, which he can then pull out at any time at the drop of a hat.
  • Walking Armory: Considering how his canon counterpart had a veritable arsenal of weapons at his disposal, this version is definitely packing some serious firepower.

Independent Villains

     Thanoseid

Shichirou Shigaraki

Quirk: Omega Infinity

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/thano.jpeg

The First Villain and the father of the Dark Knights and All For One.

  • Adaptational Wimp: While he is still plenty powerful, Word of God has stated that he will not be omnipotent or have the power to kill half of all life in the universe with the snap of his finger.
  • Affably Evil: Is unfailingly polite towards others and sincerely apologizes to Ben on All for One trying to make him his personal attack dog once more.
  • Balance Between Good and Evil: He firmly believes that Good and Evil must continue to exist and oppose each other in a proper balance, as neither can truly live without the other.
  • Complete Immortality: He's the very first supervillain and thanks to his Quirk, has lived for as long as his children have. He finally dies when he passes his Quirk on to August.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Despite being the first supervillain, Thanoseid genuinely loved his wives and children and is saddened that his eldest son, Mugen, chose to be irredeemably evil despite his best efforts at raising him.
  • Good Parents: Even though he's a supervillain, Thanoseid did his best to raise his kids well.
  • Passing the Torch: Thanoseid passes down his Quirk to August, his trusted apprentice, dying in the process.
  • Visionary Villain: Took it upon himself to re-stabilize society by amassing followers from the criminal underworld under his banner and inspiring heroic individuals to help others who couldn't help themselves during the Dawn of Quirks.

     Stain

Chizome Akaguro

Quirk: Bloodcurdle

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chizome_akaguro_ones_justice_2_artwork.png

The infamous Hero Killer.

  • Knight Templar: He's convinced that Hero society is filled with "fakes", which, as Shigaraki points out, makes him quite foolish due to his refusal to accept anything that deviates from his agenda.
  • I Reject Your Reality: When Iida points out to him that his murders have not only made things worse by depriving Japan of Pro Heroes who could have saved more people but also took them away from their loved ones, Stain angrily claims that his actions are just despite the blood he has on his hands.
  • Villain Respect: Expresses respect for Shigaraki's conviction and advises the Dark Knights to mold it in a fashion that will ensure that Shigaraki becomes a supervillain who is respected as much as he is feared.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Not only does he attack several UA interns, it's noted that one of the heroes he's killed, Star Plasma, was fresh out of high school and ready to become a pro hero herself.

Others

     Neito Monoma

Neito Monoma

Quirk: Copy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/monoma.png

A smug, self-centered boy with far too much arrogance for his own good.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: Even more of an insufferable jackass than his canon counterpart, and lacks any of his more redeeming traits or Hidden Depths.
  • Fatal Flaw: His pride, envy, and Irrational Hatred of the 1-A students winds up crushing his dreams of being a Hero.
  • Hypocrite: Part of his motivation to be a Hero is to prove those who mocked him throughout his life wrong, yet, when it comes to Class 1-A, he tries to look for even the smallest thing he could use to mock and deride them.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Getting busted down to General Education has done nothing to curb his egotism, as he gets right back to antagonizing 1-A once more during Final Exam season.
  • Irrational Hatred: Believes Class 1-A to be full of egocentric glory hogs just because they survived the Villain attack at the USJ and refuses to believe otherwise, and despite the negative reaction he gets from his classmates, he somehow believes that they share his desires to upstage 1-A. And after the internships, he's actually states that Stain should've hurt them more than a few scrapes and bruises.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: His rude behavior towards Class 1-A comes back to bite him when he's demoted to General Ed. He's replaced by Hitoshi Shinso. Even after his demotion, he refuses to learn his lesson and his continued antagonism of 1-A leads to him being expelled from U.A. entirely.
  • Never My Fault: He holds 1-A responsible for his expulsion from U.A., and it makes him angry seeing them have fun and smile in their performance for the Culture Festival, and considers himself a victim that was unjustly punished for trying to prove that he could be a Hero. Of course, he never considers that it was his own terrible attitude and need to prove his superiority over 1-A, along with his refusal to learn his lesson, that got him kicked out in the first place.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Pretty much no one in 1-B can even stand him thanks to his intolerable behavior towards other classes. During the Sports Festival, Ben points out to Monoma that no one, not even his fellow classmates, give a flying fuck about what he thinks of 1-A because he's such an asshole. When Juzo laments that most of 1-B missed the action at I-Island, Nia calls him out for sounding like Monoma. Later, during the Culture Festival, Awase says that if Monoma were still with them, he'd make something stupid and crazy like trying to squeeze in iconic parts from various plays/movies into one grandiose play.
