The Powerpuff Girls

    In General
  • Action Girl: These are the Powerpuff Girls, after all.
  • Adaptational Nationality: In the original cartoon, the girls are American. Here, they're Australian due to their hometown Townsville being the real city in Queensland, Australia instead of the fictional one in the US.
  • Alliterative Family: All three girls have names that start with 'B'.
  • Artificial Human: They were born due to a combination of the Chemical X reacting with a Mother Box and using Prof. Utonium as base, biologically making them his genetic templates.
  • Awesome Aussie: They were born in Australia and their powers are comparable to a Kryptonian.
  • Balance, Speed, Strength Trio: Blossom is the balance, Bubbles is the speed and Buttercup is the strength.
  • Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: Blossom is the brains, Bubbles is the beauty and Buttercup is the brawn.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: Just like in the show, Bubbles is blonde, Buttercup is brunette and Blossom is redhead.
  • Canon Welding: Element X, better known as the Tenth Metal, can be distilled in to what would be called Chemical X, which is how the girls were born.
  • Color-Coded Characters: As always, Blossom is pink, Bubbles is blue and Buttercup is green.
  • Composite Character: Their PPG uniforms are based on their design from Powerpuff Girls-Z anime.
  • Destructive Saviour: They were prone to causing destruction while saving the city of Townsville when they started their hero careers.
  • Flying Brick: All three girls are super strong and can defy gravity and fly at will.
  • Freudian Trio: Blossom is the Superego, Bubbles is the Ego and Buttercup is the Id.
  • Nice Mean And In Between: Bubbles is the Nice, Buttercup is the Mean and Blossom is the In-Between.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: The girls are highly resistant to blunt force trauma, extreme heat and cold, and many environmental hazards like fire.
  • Power Glows: When they're using their powers, their eyes and palms glow.
  • Retired Badass: In 2014 the Girls were forced to retire from official superheroics due to the Australian government losing interest in continuing their funding. Still, the return of an old enemy makes them spring back into action.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: Each of the girls has at least two sins as their vices; Blossom is pride, sloth and, recently, lust, Bubbles is gluttony and greed and Buttercup is envy and wrath.
  • Town Girls: As young adults it's pretty clear Buttercup is the Butch, Bubbles the Femme and Blossom the neither.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Mojo Jojo has created a special chemical cocktail called "Antidote X" which can render the active Chemical X in the Powerpuff Girls' bodies inert. If exposed to Antidote X, The girls' biology does not allow for the absorption of Antidote X. Once it works through their system, their powers will return.
  • Younger Than They Look: They were born as 8-9 year olds, making them barely over a decade old despite growing into young adults.

  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Her relationship with her former enemy and counterpart Brick is full of belligerence with an underlying tone of being attracted to each other.
  • Breath Weapon: Blossom can emit supercooled air from her mouth, causing the moisture in the air to quickly freeze, rapidly encasing solid matter in blocks of ice.
  • Child Prodigy: Blossom is a young genius and intellectual. She has a strong knack for science and often spends time bonding with her father in his lab.
  • Cultured Badass: She likes watching the news, educational programs and critically-acclaimed TV dramas.
  • Eye Beams: Blossom can emit superheated light particles from her eyes.
  • The Face: Serves as this for the Powerpuff Girls, she even practices a formal address to the UN in the mirror everyday in the off-chance that she'll be asked at the General Assembly without notice.
  • Fatal Flaw: Pride. Blossom is deeply afraid of not being there enough for everyone, not showing good enough leadership qualities, failing in class, et cetera. This can make her self confidence quite vulnerable at times. She also does not like being called "stupid" or other slights against her intelligence or ego.
  • In-Series Nickname: Bloss.
  • The Leader: She usually serves as the leader of the trio. She has great skills at organization, negotiation, and strategy.
  • Letting Her Hair Down: As a civilian she wears her hair down in contrast to her high ponytail as a hero.
  • Lust: Exposed to college life and peers, Blossom finds herself struggling with her hormones and sexual urges in a way she never expected. She has a slight addiction to the Matcheroo App and uses it to arrange hookups when she can't help it.
  • Not a Morning Person: Blossom doesn't feel right unless she gets ten hours of sleep. Waking her before this often results in a cranky and highly aggressive Blossom. This means she goes to bed earlier then most crimefighters and still sleeps in.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Other than red, Blossom usually wears pink and she's more feminine than Buttercup, although not as girly as Bubbles.
  • Psychic Link: When she is calm and focused, she can channel that emotion to her sisters to aid them in reimagining calm or focused, even in the most stressful situations.
  • Red Is Heroic: A red ribbon and wears a red hero suit, plus she's a redhead.
  • Shock and Awe: Blossom can emit pink lightning from her body (usually her palms). With concentration, she can absorb electricity into her body and redirect it. There is a limit to how much electricity she can absorb without injury.
  • Signature Headgear: The red ribbon she always wears to tie her ponytail.
  • Super-Senses: Blossom has heightened senses approximately ten times more potent than those of an average human. She can also activate "Blossom Vision" which causes her eyes to glow and allows her to see in absolute darkness and see through solid matter with some efforts.
  • Technicolor Eyes: While Bubbles and Buttercup have normal eye colors for humans, Blossom has pink eyes.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Blossom has an irrational fear of spiders.

  • Adaptational Sexuality: In the show she was too young to be fully determined, but here she's listed as bisexual.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Has blue eyes and dresses in blue. She also tends to be the nicer one of the trio.
  • Compelling Voice: Bubbles' singing can cause listeners to fall into a docile trance, making them prone to suggestion or more open to questioning.

  • Eye Beams: Bubbles can emit psychokinetic pulses from her eyes.

  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Blonde haired and is very sweet and bubbly, with a dose of Beware the Nice Ones.
  • The Heart: Considered the heart and soul of the team.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: She has blue eyes and is easily the most innocent of the girls.
  • In-Series Nickname: Bubs.
  • Super-Scream: Bubbles can emit a high-pitched scream, not unlike the Canary Cry, which can melt steel and shatter eardrums.
  • Omniglot: Bubbles appears to be able to understand and speak any language.
  • Primal Fear: Without Octi, Bubbles has a severe and irrational fear of the dark.
  • Prone to Tears: When her sisters argue or tease her, Bubbles usually just cries.
  • Psychic Link: When she is happy and full of cheer, she can share this sensation with her sisters to brighten their mood substantially.
  • Sticky Bomb: Bubbles can emit blue ectoplasm from her body (usually her palms). This usually looks like a blue and white bubbly mass of an energy with a "jelly-like" consistency which can be projected with enough force to overturn cars, destroy a brick wall, and even cause a Kryptonian to stumble about stunned. The sticky quality of the substance can also be used to pin opponents to walls or ceilings
  • Super-Senses: Bubbles can activate "Bubbles Vision" in which cause her eyes to glow and she can see through solid matter with some effort and also see the psychic auras of persons, ghosts, and other un-manifested ephemeral beings.
  • Super-Speed: Bubbles can run at speeds approaching the speed of sound (800 MPH/1290 km/h). She's the fastest of the Powerpuff Girls.
  • Sweet Tooth: Bubbles has an insane sweet tooth. If she doesn't have sweets, she tends to be cranky, lethargic, and depressed.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She loves ice cream.
  • Vanity Is Feminine: She wears heavy eyeshadow and make-up as a civilian and she's the most feminine of the three girls.

  • Dating Catwoman: She's sort-of dating her male counterpart and former enemy Butch Mojo.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Buttercup hates broccoli, coconuts and tofu.
  • Eye Beams: Buttercup can emit superheated beams from her eyes
  • Glory Days: Buttercup longs for a return to the "glory days" of being a full-time superhero and fighting crime. She will jump at any opportunity for adventure.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Buttercup is no stranger to the green-eyed monster. She tends to get cranky and upset when her sisters have something she does not.
  • Green and Mean: Her color is green and she can be a jerk.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Buttercup has a lot of anger management issues. She usually works through this anger by beating up criminals or punching a slap of meat. If she is worked up without an outlet nearby, she can become violent without notice.
  • Hand Blast: Buttercup can emit green fire (usually from her palms), which can shape into fireballs to launch at her enemies with tremendous force.
  • In-Series Nickname: Butterbutt and Miss Punch-a-lot.
  • Instant Expert: Buttercup has a natural affinity for hurting people. She has a limited mastery of most martial arts forms she has encountered and can quickly figure out how to use a weapon, including improvised weaponry.
  • Messy Hair: While as a hero she at least combs her hair, as a civilian her short hair is rather messy.
  • Odd Friendship: Back when they were younger, she considered Princess Morbucks her best friend.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Buttercup enjoys teasing Bubbles and challenging Blossom.
  • Super-Senses: Buttercup can activate "Buttercup Vision" in which cause her eyes to glow and she can see through solid matter with thermal vision or see in darkness with exceptional night vision.
  • Super Mode: Buttercup's anger, pain, and general moodiness can be harnessed to activate what Blossom and Bubbles call "Rage Mode". As this power only shows up when Buttercup has been pushed beyond her limits, few have seen its startling display. When active, Buttercup appears possessed with glowing eyes, burning hands, and angry shouts replacing her sarcastic quips. Buttercup appears practically invulnerable to most forms of damage while showing greater strength and speed than usual.
  • Super-Strength: Buttercup can lift about six tons (~5500 kg) when calm. Likewise, she can hit with approximately 12,000lbs (~5500 kg) of force per square inch of her fist. She is ranked as a Class IV in the Enhanced Strength bracket.
  • Tank-Top Tomboy: As a civilian she wears a tank top that shows her midriff and she's pretty tomboyish,
  • Tomboy: She's certainly not girly, and she loves playing tag and dodgeball. Plus she likes watching sports and mixed martial arts.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: She loves spicy food and anything with garlic. She also loves eating meat.
  • We Used to Be Friends: She used to be Princess Morbucks's only friend, but finding out she obtained her powers from a deal with the PPG's enemy HIM completely ruined that friendship.

Family and Friends

    Prof. Drake Utonium
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/professor_utonium_earth_27.jpg
  • Accidental Discovery: Despite his qualifications, Utonium's greatest inventions are usually created by accident. Most inventions he creates on purpose usually don't work at all, are volatile or otherwise dangerous, or have some great flaw that makes them all but impractical to use.
  • Adaptational Nationality: He was born in Korea and became a naturalized Australian rather than American like in the cartoon.
  • Asian and Nerdy: He's half-Korean and half-Japanese and can be a bit nerdy, which is how he created the girls in the first place.
  • Bad Liar: Professor Utonium is a bad liar. Despite this, he does have a bad habit of lying, likely due to his residual mischievous impulses.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Due to feeling neglected by his parents and overshadowed by his older brother despite his intelligence, as a child he acted out a lot, becoming a troublemaker and a prankster. He changed after seeing the destruction of the Manhattaning, which reignited his interest in school and sciences.
  • Composite Character: His first name Drake and him being asian refers to his PPG-Z incarnation.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: He seems unable to create anything edible except when he is following the most basic of recipes (and even then, most results are described as 'bland', 'lacking flavor', or 'unappealing').
  • Good Parents: He loves the girls unconditionally, being an affectionate and supportive father, whose pep talks were the largest influence on the girls' humanity and altruism.
  • Hidden Depths: He might not have much of an inclination for athletic pursuits, but he's pretty good at golfing, which helps him relieve stress. And he's actually better at miniature golf due to its application of physics and mathematics.
  • In-Series Nickname: Lots of them, which border on embarrassing: PPP (Powerpuff Papa, Professor Powerpuff, etc), Pookie Bear, Fuzzy Muffin, Cuddlefish, Love Bucket, Snootypoo, Sugar Cookie, Shlubbypuff, Physics Pants, Poogly Pie, Cutie Patootie.
  • Lethal Chef: Buttercup thinks Professor Utonium's famous last words will one day be "Cooking is just a practical application of chemistry!" Though Utonium is a world-class chemist, his daughters are quick to remind him that the kitchen is not his lab. He actually has more success in the kitchen when he ditches recipes and chooses to invent a new dish, but even then his results vary with one attempt to create 'the best chili' requiring a hazmat team to respond and his attempt to make edible candy for his girls resulted in the creation of a material he was able to sell to Kord Omniversal for use in the latest line of Smartglass technology.
  • Mr. Exposition: He's a member of The Network and his Online Alias is ChemXDaddy.
  • Naturalized Name: Born Uhgeum Dae-kyun in Seoul, South Korea, he changed his name to Drake Utonium when his family moved to Australia after the Manhattaning.
  • Nervous Wreck: Utonium is highly susceptible to stress. He can suffer from panic attacks, insomnia, migraines, stress-induced illnesses, or problem behavior as a means of coping with excessively built-up stress. His daughters are aware of this and do their best to not give their father any further undue stress, having nearly killed him in the past... on several occasions.
  • Official Couple: Married to Meg Keane, the former nanny of the girls.
  • Omnidisciplinary Scientist: Utonium considers himself to be well-versed in most scientific fields. He regularly consults with experts and specialists in multiple fields. While his specialty is chemistry, he's also well versed in geology, biology and physics.
  • Plot Allergy: Professor Utonium is allergic to dog dander, much to the annoyance of his daughters.
  • The Professor: It's literally his title, and Utonium is a world-class chemist. It’s considered to be his primary area of expertise.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Through his mother he's the half-brother of Risa Yurigama, better known as the second Rising Sun Archer in the comics. His half-brother Eugene Utonium on his father's side originates on the PPG-Z anime.
  • Sickening Sweethearts: The many cutesy pet names between him and Meg indicate this dynamic.
  • Younger and Hipper: His style of dressing is more laid-back than the cartoon or the anime.
  • Wacky Marriage Proposal: When he and Meg where imprisoned in a Vlatavan dungeon, he proposed to her thinking they wouldn't make it. When they were rescued she accepted the proposal and they married on their next stop.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Professor Utonium remains gravely afraid of cats, stemming from a previous experience.

    Meg Keane-Utonium
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/meg_keane_earth_27.jpg

Margaret Sandra "Meg" Keane is the former nanny, tutor and caretaker of the Powerpuff Girls and currently their stepmother.

  • Adaptational Job Change: Instead of the girls' kindergarten teacher, she was their personal nanny, tutor and caretaker.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: In the show she was straight, but here she's pansexual.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Apple Dumpling, Cheesy Quesadilla, Cutie Pie, Googly Moogly, Honey Bunny, Lovey Bear, Lumpy Bones, Meg, Meg K, Miss K, Pumpkin, Snuggle Puppy, Sticky Bun, Sugar Booger, Sweetie.
  • Big Eater: Meg eats her feelings. When she’s depressed, she’s likely to eat a whole carton of rocky road ice cream.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Yeah, Miss Keane is usually quite laid-back and casual, but you don't want to get on her bad side. Meg can totally lose her cool when she sees gross intolerance or evil of an unquestionable sort. Though she usually recites mantras to collect her calm rather than resort to violence, she's not afraid to turn a blind eye to her girls' eager use of violence to right the wrongs of their world. On at least one occasion, Meg's even actively sent the girls to rough up a mugger that Meg had personally witnessed accost a young woman earlier that day.
  • Good Parents: She’s kind, patient and a very smart woman, she can also be strict when she sees there's a need.
  • Good Stepmother: She is this to the Powerpuff Girls.
  • Good with Numbers: Meg has a real good head for numbers. She’s good enough to check her husband's math and even help him with equations. She does not get any thrill from numbers, though, and tends to burn out quickly.
  • Hippie Teacher: Her style of dress and numerous beads brings that to mind.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: Has some pretty blue eyes and she deeply cares about the girls as their adoptive mother.
  • Non-Idle Rich: Despite coming from a well-off family, Miss Keane instead chose to travel the world, which is how she ended up as the girls' caretaker and eventually mother.
  • Official Couple: Married to Professor Utonium.
  • Pride: Meg can be rather vain. She prides herself on her spiritual well-being and healthy lifestyle. She can become rather flustered when anyone insults or demeans her life choices or interests.
  • Supreme Chef: Having studied cuisine in France and having spent over a decade cooking meals for three very hungry girls and their father, Meg is quite the chef.
  • Team Mom: For over a decade, Meg has been the closest thing the Powerpuff Girls have had to a mother. She was their teacher, nanny, and all-around caretaker. She also looked after their father who desperately needed a woman's touch in his life. She must have done so well at all these duties that she ended up being promoted to being the actual mom for the Powerpuff Girls when she married Drake Utonium.
  • There Are No Therapists: Averted. Meg often acts as the unofficial therapist for Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. She has also provided therapeutic counseling for their father and Sara Bellum more than once. In addition to traditional therapy, Meg is also an expert in the use of esoteric healing using incense, music, massage, and other unconventional or holistic techniques.
  • Walking the Earth: While her father only gave her funds for a summer, she administrated so well she traveled for two years across the world before ending in Australia, which is how she became the girls nanny, teacher and caretaker.

    Sara Bellum

    Barney Foster
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mayor_barney_foster_earth_27.jpg

The former Mayor of Townsville, Australia. Currently the lawyer and spokesperson for the Powerpuff Girls.

  • Adaptational Attractiveness: When compared to either the cartoon or the anime, he's much more dignified and even younger-looking, even being of average height.
  • Named by the Adaptation: He was known only as The Mayor in the cartoon. Even when running for re-election, his campaign slogan had been "Mayor for mayor".
  • Recovered Addict: Foster has a history of substance abuse, including alcohol and prescription drugs. While he has been able to control his addiction in recent years, it remains a potential weakness.
  • The Social Expert: Foster is a skilled negotiator, able to represent his clients in business negotiations and reach favorable deals on their behalf. He is able to assess the strengths and weaknesses of each party and use his legal knowledge to craft effective agreements.
  • Suicidal Overconfidence: Foster's success in the courtroom has led him to become overconfident at times. He may take on cases that are beyond his abilities or underestimate the challenges he will face.

    JR Terrier
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jr_terrier__earth_27__commission_by_phil_cho_derspqf_fullview.jpg
A robotic dog and pet of the Powerpuff Girls.

    Robin Snyder
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/robin_snyder_earth_27.jpg
The Powerpuff Girls' next door neighbor and friend.
  • Best Friend: While she gets along with all three PPG, she's considered by Blossom to be her best friend.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: While Robin is generally a patient and understanding person, she can sometimes have a short temper when she's pushed to her limits. This can lead to arguments and hurt feelings, and even violent outbursts (usually directed at objects, but she's also been known to lightly wail on a nearby friend's arm).
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: She's the gentle to Mike's brooding.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Despite her talents and intelligence, Robin can sometimes struggle with finding direction in her life. She can feel lost and unsure of what she wants to do with her future — both long-term and short-term. She does better when she has trusted friend or authority figure that she can latch to and follow their lead.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Robin is courageous, often to a fault. She is rarely discouraged from action by the risk of danger, embarrassment, or failure. Robin can sometimes act impulsively, jumping into situations without fully thinking them through. This often leads to her making mistakes that come with serious negative consequences.
  • The Engineer: Robin has an exceptional talent for engineering, especially in regards something she has previously seen or interacted with. Several times she has proved herself able to "MacGuyver" herself some tools or weapons in order to escape a precarious situation. She does all of her own automotive repairs.
  • Family Theme Naming: She's named after the robin, and her older sisters Wren and Lark were also named after birds.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: As the daughter of a considerably talented artificial intelligence code writer, Robin was exposed to a lot of computer expertise growing up. Robin has a firm grasp on computer literacy, operation, programming, and repair. She also understands a great deal about high-tech gadgets and gizmos, even those she has not encountered before. At least twice Robin's technical savvy proved able to figure out how to work an alien device before her friends of their academic father.
  • Good Parents: Her parents Lewis and Mary Beth are very good parents for her and her sisters, despite her unplanned conception.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: While Robin is generally a smart and savvy person, she can sometimes be a bit naive when it comes to motives and intentions of others. This can make her vulnerable to manipulation and deception.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: She has blue eyes and she's a pretty nice person, even if she's no longer so innocent.
  • Mr. Exposition: She's also a member of The Network and her Online Alias is HappyAccident96.
  • Muggle Best Friend: A normal human who's friends with three superpowered girls.
  • Promoted to Love Interest: In the original show Mike and Robin didn't interact despite both being classmates of the PPG, but here they began dating after the retirement from public life by the Girls.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: While Robin is intelligent and skilled in STEM, she does not do well in social situations. Though she is a generally nice, loving young woman, Robin finds social interactions outside of her close friendships to be stressful. If forced to interact outside of her comfort zone, Robin's anxiety get the best of her and she begins to panic and flub her words.
  • Stubborn Mule: Robin can be quite stubborn at times, especially when she's convinced she's right about something. When she's stuck with faulty beliefs, it can be rather difficult for her to compromise or see things from other people's perspectives.
  • Too Much Information: When Robin learned that the Powerpuff Girls were accidentally created, she began boldly declaring that she was also an accident to everyone she met. This is a habit she still possesses, with all of her friends and associates being aware that she was the product of a contraceptive failure.
  • Wise Beyond His Years: Though Robin is not a genius by any stretch, she is remarkably smart and keen young woman with a head for STEM, and has been such from an early age. This led the girl to becoming rather precocious. When she was seven, she overheard her parents explaining that she was an "accident" — in contrast to her parents. Robin figured out what this meant on her own, but did not take offense to it — quite the opposite, in fact.

    Mike Believe
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mike_believe_earth_27.jpg
A young man with a vivid imagination. He's also a friend of the Powerpuff Girls.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: From simply a lonely boy who created an Imaginary Friend, to someone who had abusive parents, was possessed by a demon and watched as his parents commits suicide in front of him.
  • Adaptation Name Change: In the show his name was really Mike Believe, but here his name is Michael Brickowski Jr., before he changed his name to the nickname that Bubbles came up for him.
  • Best Friend: While he gets along with all three Girls, Bubbles considers him her best friend.
  • Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: He's clearly the Brooding to Robin's Gentle.
  • Demonic Possession: He had a demonic embryo implanted in his body by HIM, who would become the demon Patches. Even after being freed from the demon, he still suffers from PTSD and has a mild reaction to Cold Iron.
  • In-Series Nickname: Mike Believe, Mikey, Patches, The Patchwork Killer, TPK
  • Nepotism: The reason he was the very first person to become a playmate of the PPG is due to his father also working at the same lab as Prof. Utonium.
  • Official Couple: With Robin Snyder.
  • Pair the Spares: Even if the PPG aren't involved with anyone at the moment, their mutual friends Robin and Mike are now dating.
  • Punny Name: He was called Mike Believe by Bubbles as a pun of 'Make Believe', but after being freed from Patches and beginning a new life, it became his actual name.
  • Related in the Adaptation: His father is Mike Brickowski, a Dirty Cop who in the show tried to kill the PPG. In the show both characters never crossed paths.
