Heroes

    Zophy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zophy_2_5.png
The main protagonist. A true man with the soul of a fiery warrior hidden within. While he cannot jump, he has an iron-clad guard that prevents all attacks from doing any damage, and his grab allows him to throw back enemy projectiles or even just the enemies themselves.
  • Badass Arm-Fold: Zophy is prone to this as second nature.
  • Blocking Stops All Damage: As a measure of Zophy's physical power. He has to high block or low block for the appropriate damage, but otherwise can fully tank anything as long as his defense is up.
  • Bullet Catch: Zophy is able to do this and throw the bullet back to his attacker. He isn't limited to bullets either, being able to Catch and Return arrows, fireballs, or even laser beams.
  • Catch and Return: Bullets, arrows, spears, boulders, fireballs, meteors, grenades, tornadoes... If they fly towards Zophy, he can catch them and fling them back at his attacker.
  • Charles Atlas Superpower: His massive physical build and power comes from a life of training. While he was raised by the phoenix, his ability is all him.
  • Gentle Giant: A massive man and can smash boulders with his fist and wears a stern face. He is also kind-hearted and carries the spirit of justice. He is kind towards animals, immediately steps in to rescue people, and always makes sure to keep his promises.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Zophy is strong enough to pick up almost any enemy and fling them into their friends. The only exceptions are a camel seen once in the desert, a giant squid, and the final boss.
  • Ground Punch: His down special has him punch the ground, damaging everyone on the ground in a wide area.
  • Heroes Fight Barehanded: No weapons needed except for his fist. If he ever is seen using bullets or lasers, it's cuz he caught them barehanded and threw them back!
  • Made of Iron: Recognized as such in-universe. He can block anything with his bare arms, fights magical and mundane enemies with just his fists, and can repel lasers with his bare hands!
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: Those muscles aren't just for show, he really is the world's strongest man!
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He is only ever seen dressed in a loincloth, headband and jewelry.
  • Wild Man: Zophy is practically the poster child for the trope. A taciturn man raised in the wilderness who wanders through adventure with only a loincloth and some jewelry, and whose best friend is a lion.
  • World's Strongest Man: Zophy's backstory is revealed... and he's a perfectly normal human. While he does have ancestral blood of the Latour and phoenix running through him, they are so far back in his ancestry as to be diluted to meaninglessness. A life of constant training has made him a man powerful enough to fling elephants as if they were made of styofoam.

    Wolf
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wolf_13.png
A mysterious fighter first encountered stealing the bracelet away from Mr Barry's dig site. Described by Professor Ace as "a scoundrel who will take on any work for money". He admires Zophy and has honed his own invincible Wolf Punch. A combo-focused character who excels in movement speed and jumping ability.
  • Badass Normal: He has managed to become a fighter almost equal to Zophy, and honed a Wolf Fist punch that can shatter trees. But it's all from nothing more than personal training and a fondness for fights.
  • Blocking Stops All Damage: Similar to Zophy, but to a lesser extent. While his blcoks will tank any incoming damage, he cannot maintain it forever like Zophy can and will eventually break his guard.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Becomes the victim of this when he confronts Coma on routes other than his own.
  • Cool Bike: Gets a sports bike in his end credits sequence to ride the coast with Flora.
  • Ground Punch: Like Zophy, Wolf's down special is a ground punch. But unlike Zophy, it's in a much smaller area.
  • Heroes Fight Barehanded: Though he'll throw some kicks in too. His special technique is the Wolf Punch, which nobody can stand back up from except Zophy himself.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: Almost an equal to Zophy, his muscles display his fighting strength.
  • Private Military Contractor: Professor Ace describes him as a scoundrel who will take on any work for money. He's initially hired by the mercenary group Barracuda at the start of the game, but goes independent once Barracuda dissolves. At the end of his story, he convinces Andrios of the Mars Corp to hire him as a bodyguard.
  • Red Hot Masculinity: Wolf is a muscular brawler who is eager to test anyone's strength in combat if they're strong enough. Naturally, he completely geeks out over the legendary Zophy and is ecstatic for any change to fight with him. His trademark is a red baret and scarf, and Flora and his animal companions also all wear something red.

    Blackberry
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blackberry_4.png
The pyramid witch Blackberry, devoted to the resurrection of the legendary ancient wizard Diamond Mine. She feels the power released by the excavation of the bracelet and investigates, hoping to use its power for her purposes. She has a calm personality, but occasionally shows signs of madness. She is not very good at melee combat but, after purchasing enough specials pearls, can use a variety of magics against enemies.
  • Charm Person: Magically manipulates Miku to make her believe they are best friends, allowing her to learn about Miku's background and study her connection to the bracelet.
  • Combat Tentacles: Her Call of the Abyss spell summons extradimensional tentacles to thrash her foes.
  • Lady of Black Magic: The Pyramid Witch's attacks involve summoning a variety of demonic and eldritch beings.
  • Morphic Resonance: When transformed into a mouse, she maintains the blue fur of her hair colour and wears mouse-sized versions of her hair decorations.
  • Shock and Awe: One of her spells summons Chergov, an eldtich being that wanders back and forth and spews lightning.
  • Spell Book: Keeps one on hand for her powerful summon attacks.
  • Summon Magic: Her powerful attacks involve summoning eldritch beings to fight on her behalf.
  • Supernatural Sensitivity: She was able to detect the magic power released when the bracelet was unearthed, though she claims anyone with magical affinity could have felt it.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Can transform herself into a small blue mouse to dodge attacks or for infiltration.

    Coma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/coma_2.png
A cunning and sadistic female devil. She disguises herself as a human scientist and infiltrates armed organizations and large corporations to discover the power of the bracelet. While a master manipulator, she is also a well-balanced fighter who can fight at any distance with powerful up-close attacks and ranged attacks with no cost. Like Zophy, she cannot jump, but his highly mobile.
  • Deal with the Devil: As a devil, she makes time to make these. Her initial contract in the game is made with Zet.
  • Dodge the Bullet: When playing as her, she does not have the sheer physical strength of Zophy, Wolf or Power King, so her guard has her dodge attacks instead, inclunding bullets.
  • Lady of Black Magic: Coma, a devil who fights with access to demonic magics.
  • Magical Girl Warrior: Coma fights with demonic magic, augmenting her physical attacks or summoning weapons.
  • Ms. Fanservice: By design as a seductive devil. Her design is all about the sex appeal.
  • Prehensile Hair: The devil Coma can use her hair for certain attacks.
  • Storm of Blades: Her EXTRAPOWER attack has her open a portal behind her that fires out a near-endless amount of blades across the screen.
  • Villain Episode: Coma opposes the player characters throughout their routes. Then she gets her own side of the story.

    Power King
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/powerking_4.png

  • Badass Longcoat: Part of his ensemble.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Power King can extend his low punch by extending a blade from his wrist, similar to Zanba Head.
  • Deadly Gaze: His EXTRAPOWER attack has him pull out Medusa's head from his jacket, holding it aloft to stun and damage foes in front of it.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Much like Zophy, Power King is strong enough to lift up foes and toss them around.
  • More Dakka: While he is physically powerful and can throw punch and knife slashes around, Power King can also use an assortment of military weaponry and his down special has him fire bullets in both directions out of his sleeves.

Teammates

    King Leo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kingleo_1.png
Zophy's best friend and the king of beasts. A large talking, flying, 200 year old tiger who was blessed by the phoenix.
  • King of Beasts: His role as an uplifted lion of great wisdom.
  • Mysterious Animal Senses: He is capable of detecting the frenzy air given off by the bracelet.
  • Non-Human Sidekick: Zophy's best friend and closest companion.
  • Panthera Awesome: And this time, they gave him some choice lines to add to the awesome.
  • Snarky Non-Human Sidekick: King Leo has been given some choice lines this time around. Expect him to be the one to suggest Zophy should feed the upcoming enemies... feed them a fist!
  • Talking Animal: Unique as the only animal capable of speech, despite all the animals known by name and animal helpers. This was a gift granted to him by the Flame Princess phoenix.
  • Uplifted Animal: Was blessed by the phoenix, and so was granted speech, sentience, long life and flight.

    David and Marian
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/davimarie_1.png
Friends of Zophy who follow on his adventures. They met in the past on Magarda Volcano, and are apprehensive about needing to return there.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: David can't help but be awestruck by each girl he sees, commenting on how sexy they look to him. Marian usually gives exasperated sarcasm in response.
  • Pervert Revenge Mode: When the team settles on traveling to Magarda Volcano, David muses that Zophy and Professor Ace, who already wear next to nothing, can't wear any less to combat the heat... but that Marian totally could. Cue a slap to immediately silence him.
  • Those Two Guys: Always come as a pair, and provide commentary throughout Zophy's route.

    Professor Ace
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/professor_ace_room_maxed.png
A professor of archaeology who follows Zophy and his friends on adventure. Though he wishes to avoid danger, he is a seeker of treasure and staying with Zophy gives him opportunity. He runs the Bank of Ace ATM that all characters can use to store money acquired during the game.
  • Adventurer Archaeologist: A professor of archaeology but spends his time as the Lovable Coward following Zophy around. It's certainly a good source of adventure, and sometimes riches. Like the time he steals a large jewel from Blackberry's pyramid, prompting Ogonmushi to brain them robbers and attack. Though always the first to run from a fight, he nonetheless follows Zophy into the heart of danger, and surprises everyone when his archaeological expertise means he actually has insight in the adventure at hand. He's even got the hat.
  • In-Game Banking Services: When he's not picking up coins and gems for Zophy, he runs the Ace Bank ATM for all characters. Depositing money in the Ace Bank makes it available in the Professor's Room, where one can purchase credits, new playable characters, level select, jukebox, or just accumulate so that the professor can buy better clothes and decorations.
  • A Lady on Each Arm: As more money is deposited in the Ace Bank, the Professor Room steadily improves. It starts simple, a nicer chair for Professor Ace or giving him a sharp white leisure suit. By the final two tiers, his lavish lodgings will be capstoned with a tall glamorous babe leaning in on either side of him.
  • Non-Action Guy: Even DaviMari participate in battle insofar as they'll step in to heal Zophy if his health is low and he's bought Ahab's Elixer. Ace makes sure to pathologically avoid danger, and only picks up dropped cash in the background.
  • Ridiculous Repossession: While the player can save money to make things more luxurious in the Professor Room, the corollary is that as you actually spend money on the aforementioned unlocks these basic comforts and lavish luxuries are quickly taken away. You can easily redue Professor Ace from sipping on wine with babes on each arm to sitting shirtless on a basic folding chair by himself to buy that final character unlock.
  • The Smart Guy: Partially from being a professor of archaeology, giving him historical or cultural insights; partially from being a pragmatic coward who maintains an informations network to know who and what he might be dealing with before getting into danger.

    Flora
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flor_1.png
Wolf's companion and assistant, usually seen operating their hoverbike. She half-heartedly supports his work behind the scenes while acting half-impressed at his fights.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: She teases Wolf throughout his route, feigning jealousy when other girls are involved and especially when his obsession with fighting Zophy turns him into a complete Zophy geek. But admits she's something of a Wolf geek herself. They finally trade love yous before the end of the game, and ride off together on a motorcycle over the end credits.
  • Cool Bike: Rides a hoverbike during levels and certain cutscenes.

    Aggi, Mick and Wind
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/momotaro_2.png
Animal companions of Wolf. Like DaviMari and King Leo, they assist Wolf when the appropriate item has been activated.
  • Momotarō: Monkey, dog and bird companions are a reference to the companions of Momotaro.

    Aroma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aroma_7.png
Coma's sister. A fellow devil who looks on her big sister with affection.

    Slumber
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/slumber_1.png
A skeletal assistant to Coma.
  • Friendly Skeleton: A dapper skeleton donned in a tuxedo and top hat who is friendly with Coma and Aroma. Of course, he is a denizen of the demon world, so friendly might be relative.
  • Old Retainer: Dresses the part and acts with subservience towards Coma as if sharing this relationship towards her.

    Onryo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/onryo_1.png
Vengeful spirits who follow Power King. Unlike other player characters' companions, Onryo taunts Power King and look forward to his death.
  • Vengeful Ghost: Literally in its name. It haunts Power King, torments him, and relishes in his misfortunes.

Support

    Miku
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/miku_1_9.png
Saishu Miku, daughter of Saishu Itsuchi. A student from Japan who has come to Africa to find the truth about the death of her father - an explorer employed by Mr Barry - after having received a report simply stating that he died in an accident. She joins with Zophy and his friends after being rescued from Mr Barry's goons. Strangely, she can also feel the strange wind.
  • Brainwashed: Blackberry uses her magic to make Miku believe that they are long-time best friends, getting close to Miku and getting access to her family history in order to better understand the bracelet. Afterwards, Miku still has memories of her time under Blackberry's spell. It turns out that she believes they could have actually been friends even without it. More sinisterly, the bracelet also starts getting a hold on her mind too.
  • Damsel in Distress: Initially rescued from one of Mr Barry's goons trying to assault her, she is quickly kidnapped by Blackberry to learn more about the bracelet.

    Eighty and Johnny
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eighty_1.png
Two merchants familiar with Zophy who provide their services throughout the game. Eighty emits a special radius that nullifies hostilities around her.
  • Dungeon Shop: They make their services available in every stage. Even on the slopes of Magarda Volcano, in the tunnels of a violent gang, in the depths of a religious cult's secret subterranean caverns, and even in America.
  • Intrepid Merchant: They travel throughout Africa and even across the Atlantic to sell their wares to the heroes. Guess they know hero work is good business.

    Figma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/figma_5.png

  • Summon Magic: Can summon Sigma, the fire bear. As David puts it: Figma manipulating the magma brown bear Sigma. Or in the Japanese: Maguma no higuma no Shiguma o ayatsuru figuma!

    Tiger
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tiger_1.png
Friend of Zophy and King Leo. one of the best warriors in his family and the strongest fire beast user. Also felt the hot-blooded effect of the bracelet. Tigir family tradition forbids directly seeking their god Magma-O, just surrender to history and watch its flow.

    Magma-O
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/magmao_1.png
A god who lives in the creater of Magarda Volcano. He has observed the Earth since the earliest moments of the planet and has a deep knowledge of its history. In Wolf's route, he tells Zophy's origin story.
  • Exact Words: Zophy and the gang ask Magma-O if he knows anything about the bracelet. Magma-O, being an ancient being that has watched the history of the Earth since its formation, knows of something that resembles its effects, but he doesn't know anything about a bracelet. That's because it's actually a ring for giant Latour warriors.
  • Punny Name: He is a maō. And made of magma. A magmaō.

    The Galaxys Team
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/galaxys.png
Heroes from prior EXTRAPOWER games. A team of heroes based in America whose areas of activity include the Earth and space, led by Galaxy Star. They are friends of Zophy, and offer him support assistance.

  • Knowledge Broker: Wolf regularly uses her services to find information and locations.

    V
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/v_2.png
A man with an ore heart that allows him to transform into the beast god Vezerga. He is familiar with Zophy and with the tribe of Magarda, and is opposed to any demon over the death of his sister.
  • Super Boss: He can be fought at the end of the Boss Rush mode, but only if every prior boss has been beaten without dying. If you can survive that requirement, maybe you can survive him.

Other

    Crown and Fool
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/crown_and_fool.png
The hell jesters of Ispares, playable in EXTRAPOWER: Attack of Darkforce who function as dealers and hecklers in the Casino minigame.
  • Absurdly High-Stakes Game: They will occasionally threaten the player with the loss of life or limb if they lose, or that they can gamble their blood. Thankfully it's just part of their Cute and Psycho personality; only money can be gambled.
  • Angrish: Actually winning a full hand will have Crown and Fool respond incredulously, with Fool in particular prone to outbursts.
  • Betting Mini-Game: Their function in Giant Fist is to fascilitate the High Low minigame to make or lose some extra money.
  • The Cameo: These beloved characters were playable characters in Attack of Darkforce, and now play a minor role as dealers in the casino.
  • The Heckler: They relish in passive-aggressively pushing you to gamble more and humiliating you when you lose.
  • The Hyena: Fool especially is prone to bouts of laughter. She can't keep a straight face when pondering your shortcomings.
  • Symbol Swearing: One possible response when winning has Fool reduced to the verbal equivalent of keyboard mashing unpronouncable symbols.

    Sendo-san
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sendosan.png
A hidden character exploring underground. Attacking specific parts of certain maps will force her out of the ground, making her run away and drop a trail of gems behind her.
  • The Cameo: She originates in the freeware game あんだわ by Born, where she explores subterranean caverns and ruins and collects gems. Here she can pop out of the ground in confusing when certain hidden parts of the ground are attacked, and drops a trail of gems as she runs away.

    Lucky Djinn
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/genie_4.png
A djinn who appears when finding the Lucky Lamp, hidden in specific spots in certain stages. He grants unlimited use of techniques without cost and EXTRAPOWER moves without their low health requirement.

Antagonists

    Africa animals
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/africa.png
Don't worry, you spare all these animals
Various animals who have fallen under the frenzy wind of the bracelet.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: The frenzy wind given off by the bracelet does this to animals, driving them into an uncontrollable rage.
  • Cruel Elephant: The boss fight of the savanna, under the rampaging effect of the bracelet. Serves to demonstrate Zophy's strength: while all characters can fight it off with their usual repertoire of attacks, Zophy can simply pick him up and toss him aside!
  • Fiendish Fish: The mbenga that populate the water. They attack as ferociusly as every other frenzied animal and come in groups.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: The animals fought don't disappear like defeated humans do. Instead, after being fought out of their frenzy, they look back and forth in confusion and run away.
  • Heinous Hyena: A common animal that tries to attack the player.
  • Killer Gorilla: Would be GentleGiants at the best of times, and one of them is even known by name to DaviMari. Unfortunately they too have become susceptible to the frenzy. The majority of them sit on an elevated position and throw rocks, situated as tutorials for Catch and Return or projectile deflection, and don't engage in melee unless knocked down. A larger specimen serves as the midboss on stage one.
  • Maniac Monkeys: Even the monkeys have gone bananas.
  • Never Smile at a Crocodile: One of the animals driven to rampage in the first stage. Found only in the water, but can take more hits than most other animals.

    Secret ruins animals
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ruins.png
These ones, you crush.
Animals only available in the secret ruins in the digsite. Unlike the mammals, fish and reptiles aboveground, these insects and arachnids don't get the benefit of a Get A Hold Of Yourself Man beat-down. Bugs just get crushed.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: The spider, cockroaches and fly are all much larger than typical specimens of their species, but the spider easily takes the cake. And the baker too.
  • Creepy Cockroach: As docile and harmless as real cockroaches, but they're the size of a small child and come in groups.
  • Giant Spider: Thankfully only found in this area. And they spit fire.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Cute?: Even fish and snakes get to run away in confusion after a little Get A Hold Of Yourself Man. These arachnids just get destroyed.

    Mercenaries

Basic violent goons keeping the villagers at work at Barry's dig site. Some guard the interiors of the Barracuda base.

    J. Gargon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/j_gal_2.png
A mercenary bodyguard under the employ of Mr Barry. He attacks with machine guns and a bazooka. Mechanically, his boss fight encourages the player to guard attacks and throw back projectiles.
  • The Ahnold: With his machine guns, bazooka, sunglasses, and overall physique, looking like Duke Nukem.
  • More Dakka: His regular attack has him alternating machine guns to fill the player with lead, only sometimes taking a break to fire a bazooka instead.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: He was baking a pie when called out to kill the player. Unfortunately, it ends up burnt thanks to being taken away from it.
  • Shooting Superman: Though many gun-bearing Mooks attack Zophy, J. Gargon specifically calls him Superman, taunts him about Superman only surviving bullets in a comic book, and spends several dozen bullets trying to kill him. Upon his defeat, he asks Zophy how he can survive being shot at? Training.

    Mr Barry
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mr_barry_2.png
A wealthy man who is excavating for ancient relics in Africa, forcing villagers to work for him under threat of violence. He had employed Miku's father, Saishu Itsuchi, until his death in an on-site accident.
  • Asshole Victim: The first actual death in the game. Characters are usually taken aback by the horrific nature of his death, but nobody actually weeps for the greedy rich man who forced the villagers to work for him through violence. The mercenary leader Barrack gets more grief than Barry.

    Duba tribe
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/duba.png
Driven to the forest by a war in their ancient past, now the forest is their pride. Their distrust of Zophy stems fro how his hard body and blonde hair resembles theirs, but he is not bound to the forest, so they see him as one who carries the blood of those who defeated them
  • Annoying Arrows: The Duba who hide in the trees shoot their arrows down at an angle, usually the perfect angle to snipe you while you're busy with the ground troops.
  • Chased by Angry Natives: The Duba people are specifically hostile to Zophy, but otherwise are defensive of their sacred forest home and repel anyone who enters uninvited. Barrack was able to earn the respect of Chief Daba and his permission to let Barracuda access their forest only after defending the Duba from ones who sought to burn the forest down.

    Shaman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shaman_64.png
Member of the Duba tribe, first seen as an end of stage boss. An agile fighter who attacks with smoke bombs.
  • Floating Mask: The boss version of the shaman can summon large masks to blow a magic attack at the player, similar to one of Blackberry's spells in EXTRAPOWER: Attack of Darkforce.
  • Witch Doctor: They're the shamans of the Duba tribe, primarily attacking with their concoctions or with a summoning ritual during the boss fight.

    Chief Daba
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daba_2.png
Chief of the Duba tribe of Marva forest. Although he views Zophy as an enemy, he is a righteous man who values logic and civility.

    Terrorists
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/terrorists.png
Veterans of combat who work for the Barracuda organization. Barrack vouches for each man as an experienced killer. Unfortunately they are united specifically under Barrack himself, and disperse after his death.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: The ones defending the Barracuda base have been manipulated by Coma in some routes, such as in Wolf's when he is employed by them but they still become hostile to him.
  • Private Military Contractors: Members of the Barracuda organization.

    Doctor Donna/Coma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dona_1.png
A scientist researching the bracelet for Barracuda, and later for Mars Corp.
  • Charm Person: Is able to use her devil powers to magically manipulate anyone. Chief Dabbar, Barracuda, Mars Corp and even Wolf become manipulated by her at various points.
  • Devil in Disguise: As the very human Doctor Donna, allowing her to infiltrate both Barracuda and Mars Corp.
  • Evil Counterpart: To herself once she is split into two equal halves. While both halves are decided to equally be the same Coma entity, this half is decidedly more wicked than the playable Coma.
  • Human Disguise: As the innocent Doctor Donna.

    Mr Barrack
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/barrack_1.png
Head of the armed organization Barracuda. He is not only a man of valor, but also a man of principle and humanity, admired by both Wolf and Chief Dabbar. His interest in the bracelet is to nullify a government's weapons, knowing that their upcoming policy will be cruel towards the poor.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Barrack and his Barracuda organization are absolutely an armed organization taking up arms against an unspecified state's government, each member of the organization a hardened killer of hundreds of battles. But the government they oppose is pushing practices that will only further harm the poorer classes, and so seek the power within the bracelet to nullify the government's weapons. He even earned the respect of the otherwise xenophobic Chief Daba and the Duba tribe by protecting them against people trying to burn down their Marva Forest home.
  • Private Military Contractors: He leads the Barracuda organization.

    Fanatics
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fanatics.png
Fanatic worshippers of the cult of Diamond Mine, waiting for the day of his resurrection. They defend the deserts around Blackberry's pyramid.
  • Ancient Order of Protectors: These worshippers of Diamond Mine staunchy defend the pyramid where he slumbers.
  • "Arabian Nights" Days: Their general aesthetic. Desert-dwelling robe-dwelling combatants who attack with magic staffs and snakes, ride around on magic carpets or camels, and swing around large scimitars.
  • Magic Carpet: One type flies around on a magic carpet, dropping large rocks on the player below with magic.
  • Mini Mook: One type of fanatic is about knee high compared to everyone else.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: The Mini Mook variety is the smallest among them and is a tricky combatant who leaps about through the air and flings a fan of knives out.
  • Snake Charmer: A snake charmer is among the fanatic types guarding the desert around Blackberry's pyramid, using his snakes to attack for him.

    Desert scorpions
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scorpion_0.png

Souls of those who have died in the pyramid. They are bound to the pyramid and now defend it with their unlife.
  • Vengeful Ghost: The souls of those slain in the pyramid and now trapped within to attack those who would invade the pyramid.

    Skeleton
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/skeleton_53.png
Animated skeletons that defend Blackberry's pyramid. They can kick bones out as a low-altitude projectile attack.
  • Ballistic Bone: Their main attack is to kick out a bone horizontally.
  • Bottomless Magazines: The average human body has 206 bones. These guys don't have that limitation.

Green horse statues that most commonly spit fireballs forward.

    Mummy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mummy_7.png
Mummified remains who defend Blackberry's pyramid. A more elite form of undead defender than the phantoms.
  • Boss in Mook Clothing: Several of them populate the pyramid alongside other common enemies. Unlike common enemies, they hit like a truck and can take a hit like one too.
  • Mummy: Subtle, but it's true.
  • Made of Iron: It can take more damage than almost any non-boss enemy.

    Golem
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/golem_0.png
A large sandstone golem summoned by Blackberry during the savanna chase, and defends the inner sanctum of her pyramid.
  • Sentient Sands: The golems are made out of sand, given a pharonic appearance. They are reduced back to sand upon their defeat.

    Ogonmushi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ogonmushi_2.png
Guardian of Blackberry's pyramid. When Ace steals a treasure while accompanying Zophy, he brands them as thieves and a fight ensues. He floats and can escape attacks via warping, making it difficult to perform arial combos.

    Volcano horse
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/volcanohorse.png
Tall seahorses that populate the lowlands and highlands of Magarda Volcano. The red ones spew fire.
  • Seahorses Are Dragons: They live around a volcano. Some spit fire, some swim in lava and spit fire. That's a seahorse alright.

    Monkfish
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/monkfish.png

Ground-crawling fish that spew fire in an arc in front of them. Found in the lowlands of Magarda Volcano. They resemble deep sea anglerfish right down to the glowing lure, except they're a bright red. And shuffle back and forth on land. And spew an obscene arc of fire in front of them.

    Ogre
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ogre_93.png

Tall, red ogres who live on Magarda volcano. They can throw axes from a high or low level.

    Pteranodon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pteranodon.png

Temporaly displaced flying reptiles that occupy the skies around Magarda Volcano.

  • Dinosaurs Are Dragons: Fire-breathing pteranodons.
  • Terror-dactyl: Hostile, fire-breathing pterosaurs that are bipedal and perch with their wings folded above their shoulders. At least they seem to be toothless.

    Red moth
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/moth_9.png

Nobody suspects the moth.

  • Killer Rabbit: Given the inclines and volcano horse swarms expected in Magarda volcano, few things are deadlier than a moth fluttering from above and dropping embers on you.
  • Moth Menace: As if trudging through an active volcano swarming with enemies wasn't bad enough, the moths have to flutter in just to sprinkle embers on you.

    Rockman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rockman.png
Stone creatures who live on the highlands of Magarda Volcano. Their stone bodies can take a pummeling. Can shoot stones from their fingertips like a gun.
  • Degraded Boss: First seen as the stage boss at the end of the first Magarda Volcano stage. It then occurs throughout the volcano's upper elevations, usually in pairs.
  • Rock Monster: A subtle example but some evidence exists for this to be the case.

    Sigma
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sigma_58.png
A magma-based fire spirit. He's not just a bear, he's the largest species of bear, the brown bear!
  • Bears Are Bad News: Particularly an aggressive magma bear.
  • Elemental Powers: As a fire spirit, it uses an assortment of fire-based attacks to include launching fireballs or causing explosions to happen in front of it.

    Agents
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/agents.png
Agents of Mars Corp who oppose the players in Milles City and throughout the Mars Corp building.
  • Bombardier Mook: The jetpack version of this enemy type will wander back and forth in the sky, dropping grenades on the player with frustrating accuracy.
  • Jet Pack: The flying variety wear jetpacks to menace the player from above.
  • The Men in Black: The majority of Mars Corp's enemy type, running around in crisp black suits and holding their hands to their earpiece when they're too far from the player.
  • Private Military Contractors: They are employees under Mars Corp, which is specifically identified as one of these.

    America animals
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/america_1.png
Animals who begin to rampage throughout Milles City once the bracelet is brought to Mars Corp. It starts with crows, and soon you have sharks leaping out of the water and a giant squid attack.
  • Background Boss: The majority of the giant squid boss fight is made up of background elements - the main head/body, the arms holding up unfortunate agents. The foreground tentacles that occasionally attack are the only vulnerable parts.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Crows, sharks and a giant squid begin rampaging in Milles City because the bracelet has been brought to Mars Corp.
  • Giant Squid: The stage boss for the Milles City industrial zone.
  • Threatening Shark: Sharks leap out of the harbour in the last screen of the Milles City Industrial Zone just before the boss. In the Midwest.

    Army
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/army_3.png
Combat troops who make up Mars Corps's military contractor force. They defend the interior of the Mars Corp building and are better at combat than Agents.

    Bladecoat/Blackcoat
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blackcoat_9.png
Elite agents of Mars Corp who wear long, black coats and attack with sword and lasers. The boss version can split itself into doppelgangers.
  • Degraded Boss: Appears first as the boss of the first Milles City stage, then appears as multiple Elite Mook throughout the industrial zone and the later floors of Mars Corp.
  • Elite Mook: The non-boss versions. They can chase the player with a lunging sword attack, can fire lasers, and take a beating better than most Mooks.
  • Private Military Contractors: They are employees under Mars Corp, which is specifically identified as one of these.

    Burner
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/burner_2.png
Large soldiers who attack with flamethrowers.

    Latourians
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latourian.png
Worshippers of the Latour religious cult who have had their bodies remodeled by Zet.
  • Lovecraftian Super Power: The zealots in the above-ground floors of Zet's mansion have such augmentations as overly long prehensile tongues; transforming their arm into a massive, veiny fist; or leggy leaping grandpas. They become even more monstrous in the caverns below.

    Hitogata
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hitogata.png
Ghost-like floating foes who engage with a branching attack from their mouths.
  • Creepypasta: Their namesake is the "lost" Japanese commercial featuring ghostly white figures.

    Longman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/longman.png
Elongated, blue monstrosities that undulate forward and attack with sharpened arms from above.

    Mudman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mudman_8.png
Latourian cultists who have been reduced to a state so basic that they barely maintain human form. They shuffle along the ground and attack by leaping out to splash the player.
  • Blob Monster: Even their humanoid shape is fairly amorphous. They're typically seen as puddles shuffling across the ground or balls of mud flying through the air to attack.
  • Muck Monster: Effectively piles of sentient mud, occasionally taking vaguely human forms between lunges.

    Slime
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/slimes_5.png
Amorphous blobs that shuffle along the floor and occasionally leap forward. Not to be underestimated.
  • Cute Slime Mook: Bouncy, brightly coloured gumball-shaped creatures, how cute! They're like big, cuddly ''Pururu! Don't be fooled.
  • Killer Rabbit: One of the deadliest enemies in the game. They look as harmless as any other video game slime, but they do contact damage for every frame they touch you and rarely appear alone. They will melt your life bar just for touching one.

    Triple eye
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/triple_eye.png
Bipedal foes that stand in place and launch three eyes out of their face and body.

    Blackfighter
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blackfighter.png
A foe sculpted in the image of an ancient Latour warrior. Their skin is of hardened stone and they attack similarly to Zet and Zophy, but without the special techniques.
  • Elite Mook: A durable enemy that fights like the Latour warriors of prehistory.

    Fujitsubo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fujitsubo.png

    Zet
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zet_2.png
Final boss. Guru of Latour religious cult, he remodels the bodies of his followers into grotesque monstrosities. His identity is revealed as the sole survivor of the ancient Latour warrior race, and his boss fight has him perform enhanced versions of Zophy's techniques.
  • Advanced Ancient Humans: His true identity is that of the last surviving member of the ancient Latour warrior race. They had created the bracelet as a power amplifier that transforms the bodies of warriors into one best suited for combat.
  • Collapsing Ceiling Boss: On top of being a Load-Bearing Boss. His boss fight takes place in a subterranean cavern, where giant-sized Zet slams his fists around and repeatedly makes rocks fall from the ceiling to fall onto the player. Naturally, by the time the fight is over, the caverns are at the point of collapsing.
  • Ground Punch: His counterpart to Zophy's ground punch is strong enough to send rocks falling down from the ceiling.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Zophy. His attacks are basically amplified versions of Zophy's techniques. And he is a pure-blooded Latourian warrior, in contrast to Zophy's ancestral blood being so diluted as to make him a regular human.
  • Evil Is Bigger: Once he demonstrates how the bracelet is properly used. His boss sprite ends up filling the height of the screen.
  • Human Popsicle: Zet in the distant past was an ancient Latour warrior who was caught in a cave-in and glacial coverage, and kept frozen for thousands of years until he awoke 50 years before the game's start. Miku's telling of her family history has it that her grandmother found her grandfather frozen, and this clues in Blackberry to the possibility that his origin is that of an ancient race. No human could survive being frozen, let alone for thousands of years, she reasons.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: Or rather, Miku's grandfather.
  • Religion of Evil: Starts a cult that remodels the bodies of its practitioners into grotesque forms in revenge for the experiments he had to suffer.
  • Secretly Dying: After the experiments that he suffered through, he can only live among the spores of the cave beneath the Latour cult headquarters. His days were limited before his final confrontation, leading to his making a contract with the devil Coma.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: Upon his defeat at the hands of Zophy, he gives his tragic backstory. He was the last of the ancient Latour warrior race, who was frozen in ice until the modern day. He woke up, fell in love with a woman who found him, and then sought out his people. His friendliness was taken advantage of and he was captured and experimented upon, tortured to the point of blind rage. He has lived the rest of his life seeking revenge, starting his cult to experiment and remodel the bodies of humans the way they experimented on him.
  • Villains Never Lie: Zet is forthcoming and upfront about his own plans, his backstory, and his motivations. He's not immune to the bracelet's effects and might have his perspective clouded, but otherwise speaks the truth as he knows it. He even makes good on disabling the bracelet's anti-magic effect, perhaps seeing him as too untouchable for deceit to matter.

    Noah
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/noah_34.png
The spirit of the bracelet itself, who has secretly been manipulating the events of the game from behind the scenes. Seemingly benevolent when she does start appearing in later characters' routes, she seeks to steer events to drive the bracelet and its new owner to come together.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Noah, what a curvaceous figure you have!
  • The Man Behind the Man: Even Big Bad Zet was subtly manipulated by Noah for her own ends, and was only one tool in Noah's expansive machinations.
  • Walking Spoiler: If you're here, you're seeing one of the final reveals of the game that can change the context of certain scenes.
