    Hope
Hope NPCs are the shopkeepers and main characters that reside within the small remnant of Hope. Their personalities and relationships are discovered through quests and story events.

Miranda

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/miranda_50.png
"Please be courteous and considerate of your fellow students, whether they are here to buy or browse."
Miranda is the local bookstore keeper of Hope. Best friends with Andre, she has a brave personality and enjoys adventure.

Enheduanna

A formerly-blue Pluff, she was forcibly transformed into a Tattered state by the Everstorm. She was eventually able to regain the ability to change forms into a Heroic state.

Andre

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/andre_5.png
"Careful hands make careful work. Don’t worry about going too fast, or you’ll make unnecessary mistakes. Speed comes with practice."
Andre owns Tailored Fashions, the clothing store of Hope, where he sells patterns and materials involved in the tailoring craft. He is best friends with Miranda, but is often shown to be nervous around Kei... at least, until they started getting along well enough to become life partners.
  • Opposites Attract: Both (semi-)romantically with Kei, and platonically with Fray. He is more introverted and soft-spoken, while both Kei and Fray are... not. Yet, that's exactly why he gets along with them- they balance each other out.

Fray

See his section below.

Jay

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jay_96.png
"Yawn…‘scuse me. Getting up before dawn every day is tiring when Piper runs the Arcade at all hours. I need coffee."
Jay runs the General Store, which sells kitchen equipment, tools, recipes and cooking ingredients. Best friends with Lycus, she also rents out space for Lycus' sister Piper for her arcade.

Kei Aino

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kei_4.png
"My Salon will take you from drab to fab in a single Wardrobe change!"
Owner of the Salon, Kei is extremely optimistic and charming, and can come off as a bit flirtatious. He has a number of siblings and has a love for milk and cookies.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: They're not biologically his siblings; he only considers them this, but his parents run the orphanage so he treats ever single orphan there as his siblings, leading to this trope.

Nicholas Artois

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nicholas_5.png
"Good day! How can I help you? As Headmaster of the University, it’s my responsibility to guide all students in need."
Nicholas runs the Headmasters Office, the premium shop, and acts as Headmaster of Hope University. Father to Lycus and Piper, he has a curious personality and is allied to Iris.
  • Action Dad: While no action hero, he rushed into danger to save his family and kith.
  • Former Teen Rebel: He doesn't care too much if people know, and in fact looks upon this phase of his life rather fondly, crediting trying on so many labels with the development of his current empathetic and kind nature.
  • Putting the "Pal" in Principal: Well, headmaster, but still.
  • Happily Married: Is this with Estella.
  • Sweet Tooth: While it's not the most prominent part of his personality, it's still clear to see where Piper gets it from- he has a very large penchant for pie, and one of his quests has him asking for crafted sweets.

Iris

See her section below.

Piper Artois

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pooper_3.png
"Hmmnf? Oh, hi! Welcome to the Arcade! H-hang on, lemme finish my snack." Click the note to view her before the Cirque Faerial event. note
Piper runs the Arcade. She is the daughter of Nicholas and sister of Lycus, and constantly has her backpack zebra Seeba with her, who she speaks too as if he is alive. A cheerful personality, Piper is friends with many of the shopkeepers in Hope.
  • The Chessmaster: During the Cirque Faerial event, she managed to out-manipulate the fae.
  • Sweet Tooth: Quite a severe one at that.
  • Successful Sibling Syndrome: She's jealous of Lycus for his accomplishments.
  • The Runaway: A Circus runaway, mixed with a Changeling Tale during the Cirque Faerial event, she runs away to the faerie circus after a plan to finally convince her parents to give her her own Kith apparently goes awry.

Robin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/robin_87.png
"You won’t believe what I just overheard…"
Robin runs the Greenhouse Garden and sells produce and roses. She has a sassy personality and often knows about the town's latest gossip, though she's not so great with fact-checking.
  • Raised by Grandparents: Since her parents died in a fire, her grandmother raised her.
  • Trauma Button: She spent most of the rise of the Scourge that attacked the Snow Globe in a numb state due to her parents having died in a fire, which the Scourge was made of.

Lycus Artois

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lycus_0.png
H-hey, what are you doing here? Don’t disturb my studies unless it’s important…"
Lycus is the son of Nicholas and brother to Piper, and runs the University Lab. He has an impulsive personality and can sometimes get engrossed in his work to the detriment of others. Lycus has been directly involved in the discovery of both the Enchanted Forest and Coral Reef.
  • Science Hero: Lycus has helped discover two remnants, and wants to help people through his research.
  • Forgets to Eat: Jay has to routinely bring cereal around for him.

Hypothesis

A Nibblug Lycus befriended and later allied with during his adventures in the Cosmic Solarium.

Iris

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/iris_78.png
"We’ve finally found something real, something whole, after searching for so long through the Tatters."
Iris runs the Tatters on the edge of Hope, where students can ally with kith. Iris was the first kith to ally with a human when she allied with Nicholas, and has a curious personality like her partner.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: Like most Kith, she's a combination of multiple animals, in this case a dog and a sheep.
  • Monster Progenitor: She's not a monster, but she is the first Kith to emerge from the tatters, and the Couribon specifically modeled themselves after her.
  • Single Specimen Species: Even the Lucky Venture, who have seen Remnant after Remnant, have never seen another Kith like Iris.
  • Sweet Sheep: She's very kind and she is part sheep.
  • Team Mom: She takes care of all the Ally-less Kith.

Estella Artois

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/estella_1.png
"My name’s Estella Artois, and I’ll be helping you with any deposits or withdrawals you need today."
Estella is the mother to Piper and Lycus and wife of Nicholas, and comes home for supper every night. She runs the Bank of Hope and offers services such as exchanging items and general banking.
  • Almighty Mom: Not normally, but when she's provoked enough, she can tell off a group of Kith throwing knives at her.
  • Happily Married: Is this with Nicholas.
  • Mama Bear; While loath to consider herself an adventurer, the moment she considers that Piper may be in danger from Cirque Faerial, she sets her fears aside and goes after them.
  • Sweet Tooth: While she is very much a proponent of healthy eating as well, she isn't above indulging in this. The candy hearts and gummy bats you trade during the holidays? She eats those.

Fray

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fray.png
"Hi!! I'm Fray! I got lotsa fun Kith Stages you can buy that other people like you drew!!! Isn' that great!!?!"
Fray is Andre's kith ally, a gray Lumence. He was directly involved in the Frayed Alliance Storyline. Fray is impulsive and loves umbrellas, lovingly named flap flaps.

Shady Character

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shady.png
"Hey, you got any spare Gems? Not for me, it's for my Kith. The little trash ball literally eats them."
Real name unknown, even to those who've completed his Secret quest. A strange fellow who sells user-made clothing to feed his kith, Club, who eats currency.
  • Coat Full of Contraband: He poses like this in his third-level bond art.
  • Glamour Failure: At maximum bond level with him, his dark scleras, pointed ears, and purple skin begin to show through his disguise, because he's actually a Thespian.
  • Stock Slasher: This was his Role back when he lived on the Shadow Stage.
  • Sympathetic Murder Backstory: He was once the Shadow Stage's Slasher, but he was forced to become that in order to save the life of his dear companion, Club. Though he still takes on the role every Thursday the 13th, the only thing he still slashes is books.

    Enchanted Forest

Princess Celariel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/celariel.png
"Your arrival here answers questions but raises many more. How did your Wizards Three send you here? And - whatever for?"
Princess Celariel is an Elf and effective ruler of the Enchanted Forest, as her father must remain by the Heart to maintain the forest's protection from the Withering, the EF's equivalent of the Tatters. She is extremely dedicated to maintaining the protection of her people, sometimes to the expense of herself, which can be seen in the discovery of the coral reef story event. She runs the Throne Room where she sells patterns to elven hair and clothing.
  • The Dragon: Became this, quite literally, to the Narrator during the Reign of the Dragon event, but she got better.
  • Princesses Rule: Justified, since her father is unable to rule.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: Everything she says is in rhyme, unless she's distressed by uncleanliness or not herself. It is revealed in her Secret that this is because in her childhood, her rhymes were the only thing that made her father smile.
  • Lady and Knight: Her relationship with Dread is much like this.

Othidar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/othidar.png
"Watch a master at work, little one. There's a lot I could teach you, provided you're willing to learn."
Othidar is an Elf and runs Elven Cuisine in the Enchanted Forest, where he sells Enchanted Forest cooking equipment, ingredients and recipes. He can come off as prickly but has been shown to care deeply for others, particularly Princess Celariel. He is also good friends with Alban.
  • Papa Wolf: Killed Mara's partner to protect Celariel as a child.

Alban

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alban_5.png
"IT IS GOOD TO SEE... NEW FACES HERE. THIS IS A NICE PLACE... TO SET DOWN ROOTS."
Alban is a dryad of the Enchanted Forest and runs Forest Fittings, where they sell clothing patterns and materials. They have two kith allies, a Talion named Pincusion and a Cinis, Ter. Alban has been shown to be a lover of puns, and is one of the older EF residents, though their exact age is not known.
  • Nice Guy: Many of their quests involve wanting to help others, Othidar describes them in one quest as "always up to something good", and the reward for one Skylar quest where she wants to give Alban a gift is framed as Alban not understanding the concept of receiving gifts without giving anything in return.
  • Non-Human Non-Binary: Dryads lack genders, so they and Lenta use they/them pronouns.
  • No Indoor Voice: Is described as having a "booming voice", to the point of speaking in all caps.

Lenta

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lenta.png
"Do not touch that-! Yes. Much of my stock is, ah. Delicate. Please, tell me if you need something specific."
Lenta is a dryad of the Enchanted Forest and runs Magic for Sale, where they sell magic items, flowers and cleaning supplies. They are allied with their Licorne Valon and were directly involved in helping Lycus discover the Coral Reef remnant, as well as being responsible for most of the wedding planning for Princess Celariel that also occurred during the story event.

Dizzy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dizzy_32.png
"Hi! Have a look around if you want! Sorry if Burnie lands on your head, he likes sitting on pretty things. Don't worry, his flames won't hurt you, he's a good Kith! Eeheehee!"
Dizzy is an avoreal and runs the Nesting Place where she sells Enchanted Forest toys. A prankster at heart, she and her allied Phowl Burnie are constantly getting into trouble. She ran a pudding contest during the Coral Reef story event to determine who would be the best suitor for Princess Celariel.

Skyler

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/skyler_4.png
"Miranda used to run this store, but now she’s exploring the Tattered Weave to discover new books. It's all thanks to her that this store exists!"
Skyler is a quiet avoreal from the Enchanted Forest. Her left arm cuts off at the elbow, disabling her so she cannot fly like other avoreals. However through the March story event players were able to "fund" a project for her through the event, resulting in Skyler creating a prosthetic arm for herself.
  • Artificial Limb: She built one from wood. Although she still cannot fly, she uses a Hook Hand attachment to help her with climbing.
  • Keeping the Handicap: Most people in the Enchanted Forest use magic to heal their disabilities, but Sklyer refused it, because she viewed being healed as being forced into a warrior's life she didn't want.
  • Punny Name: Sky-ler the avoreal.
  • The Quiet One: Mostly due to her shyness.

Mara

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mara_1.png
A weeping willow dryad who plotted to overthrow Princess Celariel during the Illuminary Gala event
  • The Lost Lenore: Their partner was killed when he attempted to assassinate the royal family, and they mourn for him still.
  • Unwitting Pawn: The Narrator used their grief to pretend to be their dead lover, manipulating them into riling Celariel up enough for him to latch onto her.

    Coral Reef

Tethys

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tethys_2.png
"Oh! I didn't see you there. Don’t mind me! I was just crying because someone ripped my heart out and crushed it into sea foam. Nothing to worry about! See, all better now!"
Tethys is a mermaid from the Coral Reef who runs Siren's Delights, which sells CR food and recipes. Initially introduced during the Coral Reef story event as Echoes, she has a flair for dramatics. She was once in a relationship with Bonnie, and is still reeling from the breakup.
  • Sirens Are Mermaids: She's called a siren frequently.
  • Mood-Swinger: She's driven to tears very easily, and (post-breakup), loses her temper at Bonnie very easily.
  • Villainesses Want Heroes: Comedically inverted. When she and all the other merfolk are taken prisoner by The Dragon (who barely seems to notice any of the mers and is only using them as hostages), she is hopelessly infatuated.

Shay

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shay_1.png
"Oh. Ehm. Hello. I'm Shay. Please - don't bother my Kith Allies. I've finally put them all in the proper sequence."
Shay is a merman from the Coral Reef and runs Starboard Engineers, where he sells CR toys. Extremely particular, he comes off as distant and a bit rude at first. He and Ogenus do however seem to get along as revealed through shop quotes. Shay's design is influenced heavily by betta fish.
  • Animal Lover: He's got one Whimperial of each color and loves them all dearly.
  • Papa Wolf: Of a variety. The moment he's freed from Specter's brainwashing, the absolute first thing on his mind is his Kith and his anger at being taken away from them.

Bonnie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bonnie_20.png
"What, ya never seen a woman with a peg leg before? I'll let ya in on a secret then: I use it to shove pots onto the heads of folks who stare at me. So mind yer eyeballs, and we'll be just fine."
Bonnie is a human pirate and resident of the Coral Reef. She runs Pirate Galley where she sells CR foods and recipes. Friends with Marcus, shop quotes also reveal she had a relationship with Tethys in the past. Bonnie has a pegleg and a love for grog.

Dione

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dione.png
"Oh! For an outsider, you look positively darling. I never thought I would see newcomers in my time, but here you are!"
Dione is a mermaid from the Coral Reef who specializes in clothing, which she sells in her shop Decked Out. Quest lines indicate that she does not approve of Ogenus' desire to not wear clothes. Her design is influenced by seals.
  • Selkies and Wereseals: She's referred to as the Selkie by Thespians and she's a mer-seal.
  • Team Mom: She's often a shoulder to cry on for Tethys (especially post-breakup) and is more than willing to bring food around for Shay.

Ogenus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ogenus.png
"You've come a long way to the Reef, and even further down into the Depths, little wanderer. Why?"
Ogenus is a merman from the Coral Reef. He sells trinkets and shells in the Seabed, as well as taking care of a number of babies that other merfolk have left in his care. His design is influenced by anglerfish, a bioluminescent deep sea creature.
  • Animal Gender-Bender: He's based on a female anglerfish.
  • No Nudity Taboo: Played with. While Dione doesn't approve of his nudity, the fact that he faces no other consequence for it implies that merfolk society as a whole doesn't have as strong a taboo towards nudity as humans do.
  • Perpetual Frowner: None of his portraits depict him smiling, not even his Devoted portrait. Apparently, the staff made this a point.
  • The Stoic: Very, very few things can get him to emote. Even when he's hit in his soft spot, the eggs that are often laid in his grounds, he doesn't do much more than stammer.

Marcus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marcus_22.png
"Hi there! Me name's Marcus. Marcus Agathon Januarius Gaulthier Smith. But, uh, please call me Marcus."
Marcus is a human pirate from the Coral Reef. He is allied with a regal Seafairy named X, and plays cards with Bonnie.
  • Gentle Giant: He doesn't even fit inside the shop image borders! Despite this, his kind nature cannot be denied.
  • Overly Long Name: Look at his quote. Look at it.

Specter

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/specter_1_2.png
"You never learn, do you? The world is better this way... So much better. Yet you continue to disrupt the corrections I've made. You still believe that I shall not succeed in my aims? You are in error!"
A ghost ship.
  • Ghost Ship: What she appears to be, before...
  • Genre Shift: She's revealed to actually be a space ship made during the Golden Age, carrying out her Creator's last protocol.
  • Lost Lenore: Non-romantic, for the Sea Witch/Ysadora, her creator.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: She puts the Coral Reef's inhabitants into dreamlike trances, depicting what she thinks is their heart's desire. They escape when they realize what she thinks they want isn't actually what they want anymore after their Character Development.
  • Painting the Medium: When she puts the mermaids and pirates into their own personalized dream states, their icons change to ghostly blue.
  • Robo Family: Considers RiGBy this, calling him her little brother.

    Shadow Stage

The Hero

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hero_99.png
"Careful, traveler, these lands are cursed and dangerous. I don't recommend you go in any further alone and unarmed. A nasty Wolf prowls around not too far from here."
A regularly dying hero with memory issues. 'Defeated' the Narrator.
  • Alien Blood: His blood is ink-black, although this isn't natural for Thespians, it's a facet of his curse.
  • Human Pincushion: He's got arrows, spears, and his own sword stuck in him.
  • Idiot Hero: He's...not the brightest.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: In one of his quests, he says that he just doesn't get why people ask him to bandage his wounds, since he's clearly fine...but he'll do it anyway.
  • Papa Wolf: Most of the time he can't remember he's a father, but during an event where he and Witch worked together to bring back some unfinished roles, the performance began to reawaken his memories, and he promptly started freaking out when he couldn't find his son.
  • Resurrective Immortality: Has been cursed to never be able to die- he'll simply rise up again with memories gone.
  • Revenant Zombie: Driven with the undying purpose of defeating the Narrator. Now that that's taken care of, he sells miscellaneous items.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: His immortality curse. Doomed to live and die, over and over again, unable to recall the most important truths of his own life.
  • Wistful Amnesia: Though he forgets everything when he dies, his returning self feels like he remembers something from the past, and will remark that certain events seem familiar.

The Wolf

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wolf_72.png
"Hurry up and buy something. I have to go hunting soon."
An older Thespian who is the Witch's grandmother and the Damsel's mother. Her daughter's death scarred her severely, leaving her unwilling to risk anything else happening to her family.
  • Animal Motif: Wolves and canines, obviously.
  • Mama Bear: Grandmama. She's very protective of Witch.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Outlived the Damsel, and has all the mental scars to show for it.
  • You Wouldn't Shoot Me: During the Reign of the Dragon event, she dares Narrator to take control of her again, and when he claims he won't because he doesn't need to, she counters that because they're outside of the Shadow Stage, he can't.

The Witch

A child who loves candy and friendship. Grandson of the Wolf, and son of the Damsel and the Hero.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/witch_2.png
"Nibble nibble little mouse, do I hear someone nibbling on my house? Hey- wait, I DO hear nibbling! QUIT EATING MY HOUSE! I'M GETTING THE BROOM!"
  • Ambiguous Gender Identity: A boy who plays a female character in a story, but the story is also their life...Yeah, she doesn't even understand the question. Wolf only ever uses masculine pronouns, but Witch is fine with either.
  • Sweet Tooth: Loves sugary snacks, and specializes in 'sugarmancy' magic. Their full Role name is even the Sugar Witch.

The Dollmaker

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dollmaker_8.png
"Death is inescapable; we shouldn't try to fight that fact, but embrace it. Enjoy the time you have and never forget that someday, we all die."
A timid collector of possibly haunted dolls.
  • The Anti-Nihilist: Has embraced the fact that all things will one day die, but encourages people to enjoy the time they have.
  • It's All My Fault: Dollmaker blames himself for what happened to Hero and Damsel, because he helped hide their secret meetings.
  • Vegetarian Vampire: Not only is he vegetarian, he doesn't eat any food with faces on it, because he worries it might turn out to be alive. This isn’t the easiest thing to do in the Stage.
Pumpkin Pastries item description: Man, if Witch keeps putting faces on her food, I think Dollmaker is going to starve.

The Scribe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scribe.png
"Hm.. if I do that now, then in the next chapter I can... or maybe I should wait and do it in a flash back..."
The editor of Shadow Stage stories.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Boy is she ever. During the Shadow Stage's introduction event, she repeatedly interrupted the Narrator's dramatic spiel to point out plot holes, much to his increasing frustration.
  • Ghostwriter: They edited and wrote scripts when Narrator didn't feel like it, and took the 'ghost' part out when Narrator was overthrown.

The Damsel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/damsel.png
A Thespian who was beloved by all, before her untimely death.
  • Damsel in Distress: Her Role, of course. Except her actual personality was anything but.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: She was romantically involved with Hero, who her mother, the Wolf, can't stand. Although it's unclear if Wolf harbored such a grudge before her death.
  • Girl in the Tower: Narrator kept her in the highest tower of his castle, and she smuggled the infant Witch out to Dollmaker to protect him from this fate.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Dollmaker explains that Narrator decided to kill Hero, she got in the way to save him from death. The actual truth is more complicated.
  • My Secret Pregnancy: When she was pregnant with Witch, she managed to conceal her pregnancy from Narrator with increasingly elaborate robes.
  • Posthumous Character: She's been dead for at least a decade by the time the story starts.
  • Together in Death: When it became clear Narrator wouldn't let them leave, she decided on this with Hero, refusing to belong to Narrator any more. Hence Hero's immortality curse.
  • Uncertain Doom: Hero's Secret quest gives more insight on the truth behind her death. It's left somewhat unclear if Narrator actually killed her or worse.

The Narrator

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/strung_along.png
"Welcome, welcome, everyone. Allow me introduce myself: I am the Creator of everything onstage, the Narrator of these stories. I assure you, my Thespians have been dying to entertain you. Please, take your seats and prepare your confections as the curtains rise."
The Creator of the Shadow Stage.
  • Compelling Voice: When he narrates, he bends the Stage to his will.
  • Intangibility: He has no body, being only a whisper in one's ear when he's not controlling the Script with his voice. Although he's apparently capable of holding things and 'showing up in person', being mentioned as doing such in some quests.
  • It's All About Me: Claims he's the one who's "lost the most" as the result of the Cataclysm.
  • If I Can't Have You…: He feels this way about the Shadow Stage at large; when Witch stepped out of line, he threatened to kill her; when he was ousted, he sent the Everstorm which nearly destroyed the Stage; when Damsel decided she wouldn't belong to him any more, even in death, he did something to her, and cursed Hero so even death would elude them.
  • Last of His Kind: He seems to be the only Remnant founder from the Golden Age left alive.
  • The Lost Lenore: When Narrator is outraged at the Coral Reef's skeleton keys being used against him during the Reign of the Dragon event, Mara notes “...Have you, too, been grieving...?” It's implied this refers to the Sea Witch, AKA Ysadora, the Golden Age creator of the Coral Reef, and that all of his Muses are attempts to replace her.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He convinced Mara he was their dead partner, and drove all of the Enchanted Forest to a fever pitch until he pushed Celariel into becoming the Dragon.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: When Hero and Damsel tried to leave the Stage together, he decided to kill Hero.
  • Never My Fault: Claims Hero is responsible for Damsel's death despite Narrator being the one who struck the blow that killed her.
  • Painting the Medium: While most characters on the site have accounts that chat with each other over the forums during events, the Narrator can only speak via hijacking other character's forum posts with his red text-boxes.
  • Playing with Puppets: He can control Kith and Thespians with his narration, although the bond between a Kith and an Ally allow one to break though the possession. During the Shadow Stage's introduction event, he possessed Iris specifically to walk her body around Nicholas just to hurt him.
  • Returning Big Bad: Was this during the Reign of the Dragon event.
  • Unreliable Narrator: His side of the story, as Dollmaker puts it, says that when Hero fell in love with Damsel and wanted to leave the Stage with her, she refused, and so he tried to take her by force. This is a complete farce; leaving was Damsel's idea.
  • The Voice: He reads the narration, naturally.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: True to form, his claim that he's only doing what he does to stave off the Curtain Fall and the Tatters from consuming what's left of the world falls flat, as Scribe points out that his domineering over the Thespians served only to further his own power, and they could survive without him. He's quick to prove her right during the Reign of the Dragon event, where one of his first suggestions is to burn down the entire Enchanted Forest.
  • Would Hurt a Child: When Witch and Wolf begin to step out of line, he threatens to force Wolf to kill him.
  • Wrong-Name Outburst: Calls Celariel "Damsel" at one point during an argument.

    Cosmic Solarium

RiGBy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rigby_0.png
"R:/ BEEP!"
A malfunctioning robot who sent the signal that called Lycus to the Solarium, made up of three AI chips- Red, Green, and Blue.
  • Androids Are People, Too: Despite appearing the least organic, RiGBy's personhood is treated as no less valid.
  • Distress Call: Red's been sending one for years, before Hope answered.
  • Robo Family: Specter considers them to be this, calling them her little siblings.

Elliot Grant

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elliot_46.png
"Look at all this... That wasteful Upper Crust throws things away without thinking twice.!"
  • Anger Born of Worry: The ultimate reason for his scorn towards Kyprian- Kyprian agreed to become the Commander of the Solarium even after the Upper Crust's systems left him to die without a second thought, and his anger at Kyprian stems back to the fact that he resents the Crust for this.
  • Cyberpunk: The aesthetic of the Core, the lower area on the Cosmic Solarium
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Becomes perfectly willing to pull one of these to resolve Specter's attack on the Solarium. Luckily, he survives, albeit permanently worse for wear.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He may be standoffish, harsh, and sometimes downright rude- especially to Kyprian, who he was once joined at the hip with- but at the end of the day, he's only trying to protect others from being harmed by him and his Tatter affliction, which he gained in the first place generating resources for a society he's embittered with. If one of his devoted quotes is any indication, he even worries about creatures he believes caused major harm to the Solarium.
  • Time Dilation: He's the one who predicted this would be the case between remnants—the amount of time that has passed since the Cataclysm differs based on where you are. Fittingly enough, their word for the Tatters is the Black Hole.
  • Tsundere: He still feels this way for Kyprian after their rough breakup, comforting him while piloting around a Byte-Buddy bunny robot so Kyprian won't know it's him.

Xenia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xenia_6.png
"What? Oh, no, taking care of these babies isn’t boring! (Well… not VERY boring…)"
An artificial nanny built to help take care of children on the ship.
  • Androids Are People, Too: The game doesn't let you see her as 'just a robot' for even a moment.
  • Generation Ship: The Solarium wasn't intended to be this, which is why she had to be built to help raise future generations.
  • Jack of All Trades: She gathers many hobbies in order to cope with the tedium of one prime directive, and is described as this in game.
  • Raised by Robots: She's the robot doing the raising. Baby Casey will be this, when they grow up.

Marisol del Bosque

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marisol.png
"...Florachnid and QTpod have been nothing but helpful ever since I allied with them. They wouldn't have ever been a part of the alien attack on the ship, I'm sure of it... but I still have to keep their aid a secret in my reports, for now."
A botanist with clinical depression.
  • Interspecies Relationship: She is dating Beebot, despite her being a human and Beebot being a tiny pollinator robot.
  • Old Money: Her family is apparently a very established one, and Elliot doesn't understand why someone like her would work as a botanist.
  • Parasol of Prettiness: Subverted. Her parasol isn't for aesthetic, it's a UV light meant to help with her depression.
  • Punny Name: Her name is Marisol and she carries around a giant parasol.
  • Solar Punk: The aesthetic of the Upper Crust, the place where she lives and works.

Beebot

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/beebot.png
"So much to do!! It might bee okay if I take a quick break, just take a short rest to recalibrate, don’t you think??"
A pollinator robot who decided to become an individual.

Kyprian

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kyprian.png
"As you can well see, I am quite fascinated by Earth history books. You’re more than welcome to peruse my collection while I work."
The captain of the Cosmic Solarium
  • The Captain: He is the commander of the ship, but he's still privy to the decisions of the Bridge Crew.
  • Cyborg: He became this after an attack on the ship severely wounded him and killed most of the commanding officers, leaving him as the captain. Elliot became tattered in order to get the resources necessary to save him.

    Golden Colosseum

Chrysa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chrysa.png
"DO YOU SEEK TO LEARN MORE, BEFORE YE PART THE MISTS? VERY WELL."
Chrysa is the Oracle of Autumn, who spends her time in the Fallen Temple, listening to the words of the Gods and helping to decipher their obscure and mysterious prophecies. Her Kith, Pythia, helps introduce the remnant before the mists are cleared.
  • Medusa: Her portrait for when she's delivering prophecy looks like this, but it's actually just her Kith acting as her hair.
  • Mysterious Mist: She's the first to break through it.
  • Vagueness Is Coming: Many of her prophecies turn out this way. She's not too happy about this.

Zephyr

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zephyr_9.png
"Ha, what a delight to meet you at last! C'mon in!"
The gender-fluid Mystic of Spring.

Gallus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gallus.png
A laid-back Faun.
  • Fauns and Satyrs: His species.
  • Life of the Party: He was this in his past, but he's become more relaxed since, although he still enjoys throwing and attending parties.
  • Happily Married: He brings up his wife, Hypatia, constantly, and you can see her in a few of his poses.

Valeria

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/valeria_4.png
The Mystic of Summer and a mighty warrior.

Kosmas

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kosmas.png
The young Mystic of Winter.
  • Celestial Body: His ritual enabled this to become a special form for all Golden Colosseum kith, including his own.
  • Child Prodigy: He's in charge of the Temple of Memory despite not being very old.
  • Family of Choice: Kosmas, Quintina, and Menodora and Timaios were this, although the latter two died in battle some time ago, leaving the former still picking up the pieces.
  • Star Power: Wields this magic to protect the Colosseum, especially in his transformation.

Quintina

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/quintina.png
A Centaur who runs the armory.
  • Abusive Parents: In her secret quest, she mentions that her biological family mistreated her because she was unable to do transformation magic.
  • Dark Secret: Her description notes "She seems aloof, but what secrets are really hiding behind that perfectly tailored pair of shades?". Her secret is that she's completely unable to use magic, transformation or otherwise, and she's been completely relying on a store of magical armor and weapons Timaios stockpiled before his death.
  • Family of Choice: Kosmas, Quintina, and Menodora and Timaios were this, although the latter two died in battle some time ago, leaving the former still picking up the pieces.
  • Our Centaurs Are Different: They've got horse ears as well as a horse lower half, and this one wears sunglasses.

    Lucky Venture

Angelique

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/angelique_0.png
"Enchantée, I am sure! This cluster of Remnants you've all got here is music to our ears, with so many sweet new folks to meet… We should embark on some social overtures, ouais?"
The lead singer aboard the Venture.
  • Betting Minigame: She lets users buy lottery tickets, with one winner gaining the pot of all ticket sales...after the Venture takes a cut, of course.
  • The Casino: What her part of the Venture is.
  • The Chanteuse: She gives off this sort of air, being the lead singer.

Luc

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/luc_5.png
"Now folks, the Lucky Venture has encountered words your ears have never heard, and seen things your eyes have never spied…"
The leader of the band, who also runs the cargo hold.
  • Exact Words: They were happy enough to take Shimmerjoy's Snow Globe items, but they never said she could come aboard as well.
  • Sexy Sax Man: His Kith is saxophone themed, and, well...look at him.

    Snow Globe

Shimmerjoy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shimmerjoy.png
"Be careful what you say around here, okay?"
A grumpy Dweller who has a fair bit of crystal growth.
  • Grass is Greener: She wanted to leave the Snow Globe for a long time, leading to her being tricked by the Lucky Venture.
  • Ironic Name: Shimmerjoy is not particularly joyful. This is actually somewhat deconstructed: in her culture, names and their meanings are extremely important, leaving her feeling like she has to justify her own name to herself to feel comfortable with it.

Driftglade

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/driftglade_8.png
"Hey."
A chill Dweller who enjoys winter sports.

Hearthsworn

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hearthsworn.png
[He sweeps his arm towards his stomach, welcoming you in!]
A Deaf Dweller whose home is a major community hub.

Firmheart

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/firmheart.png
"May I politely direct your attention to the following list of etiquette suggestions?"
One of the Council members.
  • Happily Married: To Hearthsworn. They wear wedding rings on their antlers.
  • Opposites Attract: Hearthsworn and Firmheart are very different, but they balance each other out.
  • Stealth Insult: He's a master of this, mostly directed at Gloryglint.
  • The Stoic: He's very serious and reserved, probably as a result of living in a place where emotional outbursts can kill you.

Gloryglint

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gloryglint.png
"Come closer, precious... There's no cause for hesitation."
The keeper of the Benevolent Benefactress' gravesite, a position she's been elected to for 20 years running.
  • Happiness Is Mandatory: If Dwellers fail to do this and succumb to their curse, they end up in the graveyard she takes care of.
  • Obviously Evil: Subverted. Although her kith is a giant flaming skeletal deer, she's bizzarely fascinated with the crystalized corpses of dead Dwellers, and she generally acts and behaves like a supervillian, she's a normal npc shopkeeper and she gives it her all to stop the Deception's Scourge. In her usual oblique manner, her secret reveals that she leans into this intentionally, since in a world where revealing your inner truths can be fatal, her interest in these inner truths is seen as taboo.
  • Pen Name: One of her quests hints that she’s the author of the Nicelydraw series of Snow Globe books, a Nancy Drew mystery novel parody, under a pen name so other dwellers won’t know it’s her.
  • President for Life: Her position is technichally an elected one, but she hands out campaign flyers while astride her terrifying Kith, Poetic End. It's implied she keeps getting voted in because everyone else is too terrified of her to say no.

    Cirque Faerial

Marvelous

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marvelous.png
"This set of wings? Why, they were my very first! I may have been a mere lad, but the complicated contrivances I conducted to capture that piece of cake… THE STUFF OF LEGEND!"
An acrobatic fae contortionist with a love of monologues and mischief.
  • Added Alliterative Appeal: A huge fan of speaking like this.
  • Contortionist: His legs are bent backwards over his head in his icon, and he's flexible enough to worm his way out of the grasp of his own blade-wielding mannequins.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Was once known as Lord Splattington,
Marvelous: "...due to an accident during an aspirational aspic acrobatics act… Yet I was, as ever, utterly undeterred!"
  • Evil Brit: Speaks with distinctly British slang, despite absolutely no one else in his Remnant talking like this.
  • Hates Being Alone: When the Scourge of Discord makes him believe he has been utterly abandoned, he is the one hit hardest by the idea.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The mannequins he rigs to attack Estella have been sabotaged by Pandora, and they turn against him.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: He requests the audience call him "The Marvelous Mischief Mastermind" – four words, not "Mister" or "Monster" – but provides simply "Marvelous" if they must shorten it.

Calypso

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/calypso.png
"Accounting for body mass, windspeed, and updrafts, the optimal number of balloons for this scheme would be… seven! Oh, but - it’s, like, totally chill if the real villain prefers a different amount? ‘Cause, like, who would get uptight about NUMBERS? Not THIS accomplice!"
A changeling from the Coral Reef who yearns to earn her wings, and does accomplice work for everyone in the Cirque
  • Balloonacy: How her chair works. She also hands Kei some before knocking him off the floating platform they're on.
  • Changeling Tale: Calypso is a changeling; someone not originally from the Cirque (she's a Coral Reef mermaid, to be precise) who made an Agreement to stay. She encourages Piper to do the same.
  • Twisting the Words: Fitting for someone among the fae, no matter what someone says, she finds a way to bend it around on them; when Kai expresses concern for Piper running away, clearly it means he’s just trying to control her, and if people should have loyalty to their home, she claims they believe the Cirque should have left her to die in the Everstorm.
  • Mermaid in a Wheelchair: It has balloons rather than wheels, but Calypso is a merfolk and uses a balloon-festooned chair to get around.
  • Valley Girl: The way she speaks. There's a 'like' pretty much every other sentance.

Hotshot

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hotshot_6.png
"You got a PROBLEM with me? Oh, you’ll have a PROBLEM alright-"
A fae who runs a food booth, where the specialty is wicked burns
  • Blazing Inferno Hellfire Sauce: She cultivates spicy peppers which are on fire, and sells fire eater sauce where, again, the main ingredient is literal fire.
  • Macabre Moth Motif: If her makeup didn't tip you off, the black and red moth wings she has ought to. Like most of the Cirque, she's got a bad attitude, and her preffered method is utter and absolute chaos.
  • Playing with Fire: She has on-fire drumsticks in her hair.

Chadfrey

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chadfrey.png
"Get outta my face, dweeb, or taste my knuckle sandwich!"
The fae who runs the arcade. Thinks very highly of himself, and wears a dirty sock on his head.
  • Blatant Lies: He lies constantly and poorly. In the intro event alone, he claims to be Grandstand’s chosen heir to the Ringmaster position, best friends with the Narrator (while forgetting what Remnant Narrator is from), and that he gave Piper the idea for the trick with her Agreement that stopped the Cirque’s memory-erasure spell from affecting everyone. Piper shuts this down quickly.
  • Dumb Jock: He's enormous, and about as smart as a box of rocks on a treadmill. Also, he talks to himself in the mirror.
  • The Strongman: His role in the Cirque.

Pandora

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pandora_7.png
"Perhaps we can come to an Agreement…"
A chilling changeling from the Golden Colosseum, the Mystic of themself.
  • Changeling Tale: They themselves are a changeling, and they brought Piper to the Cirque with the hopes of her becoming one as well.
  • Cold Ham: In stark contrast to the rest of the Cirque’s general attitude of Tatters-may-care chaos, Pandora is deathly serious. But they still have villainous flair.
  • Supernatural Suffocation: Threatens Estella with this via wind magic sucking the air of her.
  • Villainous Cheekbones: Do they ever.
