    Hajime Hinata

Hajime Hinata

Stand: Dragonforce

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hajime_hinata.png

Hajime Hinata is a former member of the Reserve Course that Kakyoin scouts out to join Class 77-B. In canon, he joined the Steering Committee's "Ultimate Hope" project, hoping to be given an Ultimate talent of his own, but it left him a broken shell of a man. In JoJo New Universe, thanks to the actions of Kakyoin and the Speedwagon Foundation, he is saved from such a fate, and not only becomes the Ultimate Counselor, but also a Stand user.

His Stand, Dragonforce (named after the British band DragonForce), lets him manifest a Draconic suit of armor that gives him the powers of a Western-style Dragon.

  • Adaptational Angst Downgrade: Canon Hajime struggled to remember what his Ultimate talent was, and suffered from an inferiority complex due to basing his self-worth around the idea of having an Ultimate talent in order to be considered a person. This eventually made him desperate enough to take part in the Steering Committee's Ultimate Hope project, turning him into an apathetic Broken Ace. Here, because Kakyoin took Hope's Peak Academy away from the Steering Committee, Hajime ends up becoming the Ultimate Counselor and accepts his talent, becoming much happier and more emotionally stable.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Because Kakyoin took Hope's Peak Academy away from the Steering Committee's control with the Speedwagon Foundation's help, he gets a chance to join the Main Course legitimately. This means he never feels inadequate or has to worry about his family's financial situation, both of which contributed to him becoming Izuru Kamukura in canon.
  • Adaptational Skill: In canon, he had no talent, which became a huge factor in him becoming Izuru Kamukura, as his lack of talent left him feeling unworthy of Chiaki's attention. Here, he is the Ultimate Counselor, having both the empathy and people skills required to reach out and help people with their problems. It's also explained here that he did have a talent, but he thought it was "a real pain".
  • Adaptational Wimp: Zigzagged. As a Stand user, he's definitely stronger than canon Hajime and is an actual Ultimate (specifically, the Ultimate Counselor). But on the other hand, he never becomes Izuru Kamukura thanks to Hope's Peak Academy being placed under the Speedwagon Foundation's supervision.
  • Alliterative Name: Like in canon, Hajime Hinata.
  • Broken Pedestal: Downplayed, but when he sees that the Ultimates he admired don't live up to the hype, he's a bit disappointed.
  • Expy: His Stand is designed to have abilities similar to Spyro the Dragon.
  • Hidden Depths: He'd actually hidden his talent as the Ultimate Counselor, thinking it annoying. He comes to learn its benefits quickly once he's promoted to the Main Course.
  • Number Two: He assists Chiaki in her duties as Class Representative, letting her get some much-needed help and taking a weight off her shoulders.
  • Oh, Crap!: He's horrified to realize that Honami Sato, following her murder conviction, had replaced him as the primary candidate for the Steering Committee's "Ultimate Hope" project... and that he had narrowly avoided the fate that would have awaited him if Sato hadn't done so.
  • Point of Divergence: Because the Speedwagon Foundation helped Kakyoin take Hope's Peak Academy away from the Steering Committee, he doesn't go through the same tragic circumstances that led to his canon counterpart becoming Izuru Kamukura. Instead, the role of Izuru Kamukura and the "Ultimate Hope" went to Honami Sato.

    Chiaki Nanami

Chiaki Nanami

Stand: Pac-Man Fever

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chiaki_nanami.png

The Ultimate Gamer, Chiaki Nanami is Hajime's girlfriend. In canon, she never discovered Hajime's crush on her due to his low self-esteem preventing him from confessing, and she was murdered before anything came out of it. Here, thanks to Kakyoin, she survives, and she and Hajime formed a steady relationship.

Her Stand, Pac-Man Fever (named after a Buckner & Garcia song), gives her the powers and abilities of any video-game character she wants, provided she has personally played as the character(s) in question.

    Nagito Komaeda

Nagito Komaeda

Stand: Miracles

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nagito_komaeda.png

The Ultimate Lucky Student of Class 77-B, Nagito Komaeda is a highly intelligent young man with a strange obsession with hope.

His Stand, Miracles (named after R&B group The Miracles), gives him the power to manipulate people's subconsciousness via psychic empathy.

  • Abled in the Adaptation: He never winds up cutting off his own hand here.
  • Adaptational Heroism: He actually works with the class, and several others, without issue. He certainly doesn't go around bombing islands.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He warns Kuzuryu that he ultimately has a stronger Stand, and he will stop the young mobster from becoming a killer to preserve hope.
  • Born Lucky: His luck is something of a roller coaster, even more so in a version of the JoJo universe where luck is a very tangible concept. He even avoids getting suspended like in canon due to Oingo's actions.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: He's a lot more dangerous than his Stand's stated ability would have you believe, since it essentially gives him substantial mental control over others.
  • Love Freak: Wouldn't be Komaeda otherwise. His every action is spent trying to obtain the greatest net hope for everyone around him.

    Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu

Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu

Stand: Specials

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fuyuhiko_kuzuryu.png

The Ultimate Yakuza, Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu is the short yet tough-as-nails successor of his family, the Kuzuryu Yakuza Clan. His younger sister, Natsumi, was one of the first students of Hope's Peak Academy to die when she was murdered by Honami Sato.

His Stand, Specials (named after the British Ska band The Specials), manifests as a group of six mafia agents with each of their own personalities and skills.

    Hiyoko Saionji

Hiyoko Saionji

Stand: Cold As Ice

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grown_hiyoko.png

The Ultimate Traditional Dancer, Hiyoko Saionji is an abrasive girl with a nasty mean streak.

Her Stand, Cold As Ice (named after a Foreigner song), gives her the power to manipulate ice, especially when using her Stand's icicle club.

  • Big-Breast Pride: Once she grows up, her bust size can compete with the likes of Akane, a fact that pleases her very much.
  • Carry a Big Stick: Her Stand gives her a giant icicle that she can use as a heavy bludgeon.
  • She's All Grown Up: She gets a growth spurt early on that leaves her looking incredibly sexy.
  • Super-Strength: In addition to being given ice powers, her Stand also makes her incredibly strong — enough to wield her Stand's large icicle club.
  • Took a Level in Badass: At the start of the story, her Stand is dormant. Later on, it awakens as she hits her growth spurt.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: It's subtle, but she eventually moves away from bullying anyone, least of all Mikan.

    Mahiru Koizumi

Mahiru Koizumi

Stand: Paparazzi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mahiru_koizumi.png

The Ultimate Photographer, Mahiru Koizumi is a sensible girl who can tend to be a bit critical of others at times.

Her Stand, Paparazzi (named after a Lady Gaga song), is an analog camera that produces post-cognitive images of whatever she takes photos of during investigations she personally conducts, but otherwise acts like a real camera.

  • Crystal Ball: While Mahiru is conducting an investigation, Paparazzi can take post-cognitive pictures of anything it photographs, such as seeing how a murder victim died by photographing their corpse.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: Finding out that her friend Sato killed Natsumi gives her the same predicament she had in canon. This time, she takes her evidence to the police.
  • Mundane Utility: If Koizumi isn't involved in any sort of investigation, Paparazzi acts like a perfectly normal camera.
  • We Used to Be Friends: She was friends with Sato... Until Sato killed Natsumi and then turned into an egomaniac intent on rewriting all of reality. Sato on the other hand has only become more obsessed with Koizumi with time.

    Sonia Nevermind

Sonia Nevermind

Stand: Diamonds

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sonia_nevermind.png

The Ultimate Princess, Sonia Nevermind is a curious girl who is the crown princess of the kingdom of Novoselic.

Her Stand, Diamonds (named after a Rihanna song), manifests as sixteen diamond-like gems that can make any person indestructible when infused.

  • Forgot I Could Change the Rules: Near the end of the story, she's decided to use her royal influence to alter her country's bizarre tradition of having married couples capture and present each other with a makango (a type of animal), and instead have said couples raise their own. This was largely in response to the species starting to become endangered as a result of said tradition.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: She was hoping to interact with more people her age when she transferred to Hope's Peak. At first the curriculum made that difficult, but thanks to Kakyoin and Yukizome, she was able to not only get many friends, but even a boyfriend.
  • Mundane Utility: Sonia is fully capable of using her Stand as blunt instruments. After all, diamond is a very hard substance. Very good for cracking skulls.
  • Official Couple: She's pretty much Gundham's girlfriend by the time the class gets their first assignment.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Not only is she proactive in helping find the Skull Heart due to Novoselic being one of the kingdoms the Skullgirl frequently threatens, but she uses her own Stand liberally during all three arcs.
  • Super-Empowering: Diamonds can grant anyone Sonia wants a defensive boost.

    Mikan Tsumiki

Mikan Tsumiki

Stand: Cardigans

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mikan_tsumiki.png

The Ultimate Nurse, Mikan Tsumiki is a timid and clumsy girl who has a tendency to help anybody in need.

Her Stand, Cardigans (named after Swedish band The Cardigans), is a support Stand that can heal any injury and even improve physical health.

  • Adaptational Heroism: She never winds up falling under Despair before strangling Ibuki and slitting Hiyoko's throat.
  • Hospital Hottie: Definitely one of the beauties of the class, and the team medic.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Kakyoin can't help but be gobsmacked at the incredibly bizarre positions Mikan finds herself in whenever she trips.
  • The Medic: Her role on the team, and Cardigans' main power.
  • Non-Action Guy: Downplayed. Mikan does get into some minor fights and Cardigans is far from helpless, but for the most part they're meant to be the group healers.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: When Shuichi passes by her during the third arc, she's actually improved her look dramatically, including nicer hair and a lack of bandages on her body.

    Nekomaru Nidai

Nekomaru Nidai

Stand: Iron Man

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nekomaru_nidai.png

The Ultimate Team Manager, Nekomaru Nidai is a hot-blooded and passionate man with a knack for taking terrible teams and helping them become champions.

His Stand, Iron Man (named after a Black Sabbath song), turns his skin into steel and his nervous system into a powerful electrical weapon.

  • Alliterative Name: Like in canon, Nekomaru Nidai.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Nekomaru's strong enough even when his Stand's not active (even his bathroom trips can cause massive damage). When he does activate Iron Man, he becomes practically invincible.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • He knows a lot about physical health and biology, such as the fact that blood easily conducts electricity.
    • Much like in canon, Nekomaru is also the self-proclaimed Ultimate Masseuse.
  • Mythology Gag: His metal form can be compared to Mechamaru, his robot form from canon.
  • No-Sell: When he gets attacked by Eliza while his Stand's active, he proves too invulnerable for her to draw blood from.
  • Ship Tease: Gets a lot of this with Akane.
  • Shock and Awe: His Stand, in addition to turning his skin into steel, turns his nervous system into a powerful electrical weapon. When his Stand is active, he can channel this electricity from any opening on his body, including his pores, and discharge a massive electrical surge, making him essentially a walking Tesla coil.

    Teruteru Hanamura

Teruteru Hanamura

Stand: Bon Appetit

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/teruteru_hanamura.png

The Ultimate Cook, Terteru Hanamura is a passionate boy with a love of cooking and a bit of a skirt-chasing streak. However, despite his perverse ways, he takes cooking very seriously; not even pretty girls can distract him while he's making meals

His Stand, Bon Appetit (named after a Katy Perry song), can make anyone who tastes Teruteru's food experience all the action put into making said food, similarly to watching directly from the kitchen or anywhere else Teruteru cooked, enhancing their eating experience.

  • Chubby Chef: As in canon, he is a rather chubby teenager who is also a Supreme Chef. He got into Hope's Peak Academy as the Ultimate Cook because of his incredible talent for cooking.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Even having what is essentially a sexy yuki-onna in the room won't distract Teruteru from being concerned about the spread he just cooked, even if he gets a nosebleed in the process.
  • Foil: His Stand can be seen as one to Antonio Trussardi's Stand, Pearl Jam. The foods produced by both Stands are incredibly delicious, but whereas Pearl Jam enhances a food's health quality, Bon Appetit enhances a food's entertainment value. Also, Pearl Jam's foods heal physical infirmities by making whoever eats them undergo copious amounts of Body Horror before being healed immediately after, while Bon Appetit's foods make people appreciate the care and hard work put by others into making the food.
  • Loophole Abuse: Bon Appetit doesn't just show the work Teruteru puts into his cooking, but shows the work of anyone who contributes, no matter how small. Of course, this makes it easy to tell if someone has tampered with the food.
  • Meaningful Name: His Stand's name comes from the Katy Perry song, which is about a woman who willingly puts herself "on the menu". Fitting for a pervert like Teruteru.
  • Shout-Out: Bon Appetit gives those who eat his cooking a minor and temporary case of cibopathy.
  • Supreme Chef: So much so he could give Tonio a run for his money.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: When he and Ibuki encounter the Big Eater Ronald Shiner in Willamette, Teruteru realizes he's going to have to work extra hard to keep the guy fed.

    Akane Owari

Akane Owari

Stand: Down Under

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/akane_owari.png

The Ultimate Gymnast, Akane Owari is a brash, argumentative girl with a love for both food and fighting.

Her Stand, Down Under (named after a Men at Work song), increases the overall strength, endurance, and power of her legs.

  • In a Single Bound: Her Stand allows her to jump long and high distances in a single leap thanks to the increase in textile strength.
  • Kick Chick: Her Stand is focused on her legs, giving her increased textile strength in the skin, muscles, and bones. This allows her to leap at incredible distances or heights, and land from high places without breaking anything. It also strengthens her kicks to where she can break through stone and steel without injury.
  • Meaningful Name: "The land down under" is a term used to describe Australia, and Akane's Stand was meant to be an Expy of Sheila the Kangaroo.
  • Ship Tease: Gets a lot of this with Nekomaru.

    Kazuichi Soda

Kazuichi Soda

Stand: Carpenters

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kazuichi_soda.png

The Ultimate Mechanic, Kazuichi Soda is a socially awkward boy with a mechanically genius brain.

His Stand, Carpenters (named after the brother-sister pop duo Carpenters), gives him the power to disassemble or reassemble anything — living or otherwise — and improve them.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: His canon counterpart can be Endearingly Dorky, but mostly behaved like a Jerk with a Heart of Gold who emulated the behavior of his childhood bullies in an attempt to fit in. He was also an Abhorrent Admirer to Sonia Nevermind, creepily fawning over her and putting her on a pedestal, while antagonizing Gundham out of jealousy. Here, thanks to Kakyoin's intervention changing the plot, he's much nicer and more emotionally mature, if still socially awkward here. He also recognizes that Sonia had already fallen in love with Gundham and made peace with that, never bothering the pair again.
  • The Cameo: He shows up briefly during Cruel Angel's Thesis, having been working with Miu to remodel Unit-00. Since the EVA was originally incompatible with the new armor system, Kazuichi simply applied his Stand to the organic being beneath the armor to make it compatible.
  • Establishing Character Moment: While he's building a giant engine, his own Stand douses him with a bucket of water as Sonia approaches, showing Kazuichi has a tendency to get lost in his own work.
  • Magic Tool: Carpenters is capable of building almost anything, as well as empowering living things with its various tool arms.
  • Taught by Experience: Played for laughs. He notes to Komaeda that hanging around a guy whose luck flips like a coin has gotten Kazuichi to get really good at controlling his Stand.
  • We Can Rebuild Him: Downplayed; Carpenters' powers can apply to even people, but while the target(s) don't get any noticeable modifications upon being reassembled, they do get physical improvements akin to status buffs.

    Gundham Tanaka

Gundham Tanaka

Stand: Wildhearts

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gundham_tanaka.png

The Ultimate Breeder, Gundham Tanaka is a highly eccentric young man with a chuunibyou streak.

His Stand, Wildhearts (named after British hard rock band The Wildhearts), is a werewolf with tremendous speed and ferocious teeth and claws.

    Ibuki Mioda

Ibuki Mioda

Stand: Sonic Youth

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ibuki_mioda.png

The Ultimate Musician, Ibuki Mioda is a punk rocker girl with a hyperactive and social personality.

Her Stand, Sonic Youth (named after Noise Rock band Sonic Youth), can manipulate sound through the guitar it wields.

  • Hidden Depths: While primarily a punk rocker with Death Metal tastes, she is skilled in playing different genres like jazz, classical, and country. She also points out to Sayaka that even Heavy Metal has power ballads when the latter finds her playing softer music than her usual fare.
  • Make Some Noise: Naturally, her primary method of attack is joining her Stand in a sonic Death Metal strike.
  • Perky Goth: Her best music is Death Metal and she dresses the part, but the only girl you'll find who's more cheerful is Pinkie Pie.
  • The Power of Rock: Her Stand packs a powerful guitar of its own, with music that can either attack foes or aid allies.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: In canon, she is strangled to death and then hung by a brainwashed Mikan for no reason, other than to make her classmates fall in despair. Here, because the Killing Games never happened, she survives.
  • Super-Senses: Like in canon, her hearing is exceptional to the point where she can hear the subtle echoing of Squigly's voice, or discern the difference between glass shattering and ceramic shattering.

    Peko Pekoyama

Peko Pekoyama

Stand: Butterfly

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/peko_pekoyama.png

The Ultimate Swordswoman, Peko Pekoyama is Fuyuhiko's right-hand woman and girlfriend.

Her Stand, Butterfly (named after a Smile.dk song), lets her swap the properties of two different objects that she's presently touching.

  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: Upon learning of Natsumi's murder, she blames herself for not protecting the younger sister of her master. Fuyuhiko doesn't blame her for Natsumi's death, however, and only requests that she be a normal student while they're at Hope's Peak Academy due to being Childhood Friends.
  • Instant Armor: Her Stand lets her change her clothes into body armor by swapping their properties with her sword. She can do the same with her skin as well.
  • The Magic Touch: She needs to touch two items to exchange their properties, with the most common being her clothes and her katana. However, she can apply this offensively by swapping the density of her opponent's skin with her clothes.
  • Punch a Wall: Upon learning that Natsumi was murdered, she punches a wall so hard that it made her fist bleed.

    Ryota Mitarai

Ryota Mitarai

Stand: I Am Nobody

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mitarai_future.png

The Ultimate Animator, Ryota Mitarai is a timid young man with a passion for animating and a strong sense of justice.

His Stand, I Am Nobody (named after a song by Alex & Co.), is an independent Stand that can perfectly mimic the appearance and abilities of anyone Ryota knows about, including himself, albeit with the side-effect of appearing much larger.

  • Adaptation Expansion: He gets more time with the rest of his class, due to Kakyoin easily spotting him while Ian is distracting Chisa.
  • Composite Character: Ian is essentially The Imposter from canon, meaning he and Ryota are essentially fused into one character.
  • The Dividual: Theoretically, Ian could be as far away from Ryota as he wants due to being an independent, sentient Stand. Yet they're never far from each other for long.
  • This Looks Like a Job for Aquaman: When Ian and Ryota are concerned that they haven't been able to do much either in New Meridian or Willamette, Ryota gets the bright idea to have Ian copy Brock Mason and lure his partner Rome Eron into a trap.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Part of Ian's power makes it so that people ignore his girth whenever he's transformed into someone else.
