Takuto Hasegawa is an Ordinary High-School Student, but his high school is of a different sort. The Magician's Academy, a place dedicated to training mages and mystical creatures of all sorts. It is insane. During a summoning exam, Takuto accidentally summons an insanely powerful familiar in Tanarot, a girl with the mind of a child and enough power to destroy a country. Luckily, Tanarot is loyal to her creator/"husband".

Only two of the cast, at best, notice how odd the workings of this world are. There are some serious moments, but for the most part it's off the wall comedy fueled by magic and fanboys.

Magician's Academy, also known as Macademi Wasshoi, is a Light Novel series written by Ichiro Sasaki (author of Scrapped Princess and Outbreak Company) and illustrated by Blade, which was published under the Famitsu Bunko imprint from 2003 to 2007 for nine volumes (plus seven volumes of short stories).

An anime adaptation aired in 2008 for 12 episodes. Those living in North America, South America, United Kingdom, Ireland, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Netherlands, Portugal, Middle East, Africa, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines can watch it legally at Crunchyroll.

Tropes in Macademi Wasshoi include:

• Adaptational Badass: In anime, Eitaro defeated Gabriel and Agaliarept, however, in the novel, he only defeated two of Agaliarept's subordinates. In the spin-off series "A" the Magician, it is stated that he hasn't fully recovered from his battle with Abraham (which is described in Magician's Academy volume one), so it is likely that he is not as powerful as other angels and demons of the highest order yet.
• Affectionate Parody: Episode 5 plays out like an episode out of Evangelion; an angel attacks HQ and blows through their defenses because of its force field. Sakumo even does the Gendo pose with Eneus standing behind him. The difference is that this angel is a Macho Camp that kisses people into mindlessness.
• Affably Evil: For a self-proclaimed Demon Lord, Falce is remarkably polite and friendly.
• Amazon Chaser: When Takuto lists off the qualities of 'the girl in his heart' ^note  Tanarot , they include 'cheerful' and 'tough'. Fittingly, all three members of his harem are powerful people.
• Animate Inanimate Object: One of Falce's powers is to turn items into living spirits or tsukumogami, mainly because she is the living spirit of an item — a powerful magic staff.
• Anti-Magic: Suzuka involuntarily absorbs all the mana in an area, which makes casting magic impossible for everyone in that area.
• A Mech by Any Other Name: The "Golems"
• Art Shift: Between cartoon animation, old school RPG sprite graphics, and claymation censoring ^note  that last one is only present in the original TV broadcast version as it's nowhere to be seen in the home video version .
• Attractive Bent-Gender: Takuto makes a pretty good woman, to the amusement of his own harem...and Eitaro.
• Balance Between Good and Evil: Kept in check because there is an exactly equal number of Good and Evil supernaturals at all times, and always will be due to Creative Sterility. Tanarot could be either one, which would instantly break the balance. During the Climax of Episode 10, the army of Angel/Devil Fetuses that Takuto summons causes the scale to vibrate wildly.

• Barbie Doll Anatomy: Nipples do appear on women (and on Hapshiel), but genitalia do not (and, again, are unfortunately silhouetted in Hapshiel's case).
• Beehive Barrier: Metallis' Energy Shield, as well as Hapshiel's barrier.
• Berserk Button:
  • Do not cheat at Moe around Eitaro Sakuma!
  • Murdering the harem? BAD IDEA.
• Bespectacled Cutie: Suzuho is a shy glasses girl
• Black Box: Metallis has one in him labeled black box. It contains Love.
• Blue-and-Orange Morality: Falce is a sentient magical staff, and fully aware of it. Her moral compass revolves around how useful she is to her owner.
• Body Paint: Metallis' idea of a new school uniform — effectively a layer of heavily engineered magical bodypaint. It's chrome colored and 100 percent Fanservice, especially since Suzuho is the one wearing it. However it is more than just Fanservice as it has the benefit of containing her anti-magic power.
• Cerebus Syndrome: Episode 10 is when things start hitting the fan. The funny doesn't fully come back until the Bonus Episode.
• Chest Blaster:
  • Metallis' transformation attempts a Mazinger Z-style Chest Blaster. He runs out of power before executing it.
  • Eitaro's Mega-Eneus, a Humongous Mecha built resembling Eneus, has Aphrodite's Breast Missiles.
• Clingy Jealous Girl: Suzuho protests with her signs when someone gets too close to her cousin. Suzuka will physically separate you from him.
• Clothing Damage: Gabriel and Agaliarept have torn up sleeves and scarred arms after blocking a particularly powerful spell cast by Takuto to show how powerful he is since the two are effectively the local God and Satan analogues.
• Creative Sterility: Demons and Angels are unable to create things of their own — this includes procreation and any and all creative pursuits. This is one of the many, many reasons they're terrified of Tanarot — she's effectively an artificial Angel/Demon and not bound by those rules, meaning she could upset the cosmic balance if she joins one side or the other. They're actually terrified of Takuto because he can create newborn Angels and Demons at will.

• Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass:
  • The entire cast could be considered this, since they all act like ditzy Otaku but are, in fact, wizards of varying power and species.
  • Sakuma, the local Otaku Manchild. Acts all moron all the time, but but if you mess up his Moe items not even a God or Devil can help you because he'll kick their butt too. If you mess with his friends, not even the leader of heaven and the leader of hell — at the same time can save your ass. This is because he's Samael aka "The Grim Reaper" aka "The Angel of Death", one of the very strongest of the gods.
• Cute Bruiser: Tanarot. One of the strongest physical fighters in the series. Looks quite young, despite having an awesome bod.
• Cute Mute: Suzuho's personality is an adorably innocent girl who can't speak.
• The Chew Toy:
  • Metallis. Every episode, something bad is going to happen to him until he's thrown a bone (see below). Then the role shifts to George.
  • Synclavia and Miyabi are officially disavowed by their respective organizations after they're caught, leaving them officially rogue agents — and Sakuma's slaves. He seals their powers, leaving them helpless, and then uses them as Doujinshi assistants, as well as maids / models for his various hobbies (aside from the obvious, considering how lascivious all three of them are). They don't complain too much, other than the long working hours.
• Censor Box: Certain naughty bits are concealed via Claymation. It's as weird as it sounds, but it's only the TV versions
• Dancing Theme: The OP has the shortest hot-pants ever....and fundoshi.
• Darkest Hour: Yes, this Gag Series has one — The entire Alt!Takuto timeline. He is trapped in a pocket universe where he never discovered magic, which unfortunately means that Alt!Suzuko never discovered it, either — and her split-soul condition is fatal without magical treatment. She dies, days after making it crystal clear how much she loves Alt!Takuto. One of the scenes around the Eye Catch implies that he was days away from suicide, which was the entire point of the pocket universe — to get him to kill himself so that all his power would harmlessly go away, since outright attacking him doesn't work. Then... someone, implied to be Sakuma or Alt!Sakuma, gives him a tiny ray of hope... It takes Alt!Takuto almost a century of school and work (the final project alone takes 40 years to complete, not counting previous failures and the prep time) but he eventually recreates Tanarot... Via science.
• Defeat Means Friendship: After the very serious fight during the Darkest Hour Gabriel and Agaliarept help Sakuma finish his Doujinshi on schedule. He is overjoyed and hails them as "comrades".
• Does This Remind You of Anything?: This is the second time there's been a crisis like this. Takuto isn't the first to have this ability. About 2000 years ago, a woman named Maria created an unaligned divine (neither god nor demon) when she tried to summon a familiar. She has long since died of old age, but her familiar, who she named "Jesus", exists today. According to the light novels, he's the headmaster of the Magician's Academy. He's still unaligned.
• Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male:
  • Takuto's female schoolmate, Futaba, hits her brother Hazuki when he teases her about Takuto. No one cares.
  • Miyabi uses Intimate Healing on both Takuto and Shizuho; both of them unwilling, both of them traumatized by it and a 'deflowering' symbol is used for both. Naturally, this is played for laughs.
• Emotionless Girl: Trincia. The one time she expresses an emotion scares the hell out of Takuto and his harem.
• Evil Plan: Parodied. Because Falche insists that she's a demon lord, Takuto asks what she's after. She says "world domination?" then says that she doesn't care about the world but has to conquer it because she's a demon lord. Takuto says she's being tsundere about it.
• Failed a Spot Check: The dwarfs failed to noticed they forgot to install the Vital Bolt for the new Academy City, until someone points out they are sitting on it.
• Fan Disservice: Hapshiel. He is bad enough regularly but it gets really Squick worthy in episode 7 where we have a close up of him in a fundoshi causing Eitaro to cough up blood.
• Fanservice: Surprisingly, given the art style of the show, but there are a number of cosplay, furo scenes, etc.
• Functional Magic: The purpose of the academy is to teach this. There is magic for summoning tea as well as familiars. It involves Magic Gesture and incantations and instant runes.
• Genki Girl: Tanarot and Eineus's "sister" have a great deal of energy.
• Go-Go Enslavement: While Miyabi and Synclavia weren't very modest before Eitaro forced them into working for him, they're usually seen in some sort of fanboy fetish outfit afterward. Amusingly, Synclavia's fanboy fetish outfits are less risqué than her regular garb, which was basically BDSM gear crossed with a bikini.
• God Is Good and Satan Is Good: Both of them are goofy otaku interested in maintaining a peaceful and stable status quo. See Go-Karting with Bowser for more details.
• Go-Karting with Bowser: Gabriel and Agaliarept, probably the two most powerful beings in the universe, both decidedly on the opposing side in the "divine balance", and both Otaku who are never, ever seen apart. It's further implied that they're in a romantic relationship, as they were discovered to be secretly bathing alone together at a hot springs resort, and they freaked-out when they were discovered; their reaction was as if they had been caught having an illicit affair. They even have special pet-names for each other: "Gabu-yan" and "Aga-rin".
• Grilling the Newbie: Happens to Tanarotte and Suzuho when they join Takuto's regular school... especially after seeing how they act with Takuto. None of Suzuho's questions are answered.
  Classmate: "An exchange student?"
  Tanarotte: "That's what Takuto told me to say."
• Hadaka Apron: Falce wears it when the normal high school students come over to visit. It's also mentioned in passing as one of the possible new uniforms during the competition, but not seen.
• Heroic BSoD: After Tanarot is impaled and his subsequent freak-out, Takuto is forcibly contained in a magical supercomputer as they attempt to find the proper Quantum-Magic spell to rewrite history so he never discovers magic. The latest iteration we see contains, amongst other things, a dark blue haired Suzuho talking without her sketchpad. Unfortunately, because her finding magic was dependent on Takuto finding magic, this Suzuho is the Littlest Cancer Patient and she does not get better. Alt!Suzuho dying sends Alt!Takuto right past the Despair Event Horizon, as well. His harem, led by Eitaro, take a Journey to the Center of the Mind to free him. It's implied that Alt!Eitaro (or perhaps Eitaro, it's unclear if he's free by that point or not) gives him inspiration to create Tanarot anyway, this time using high technology, after 40 years of research.
• Hero Insurance: In the form of dwarves who quickly repair all the buildings which get destroyed.

• Innocent Fanservice Girl: Falce and Tanarot — both wear clothing (for certain definitions of the term), but neither are in any way bothered by nudity.
• In-Series Nickname: Sakuma calls Takuto "Harem" and Suzuho "Meganekko"
  "Quit using that name, please."
• In Spite of a Nail: Magic or Science, Takuto finds a way to create Tanarot and thus endanger the balance between Heaven and Hell. It's suggested that You Can't Fight Fate in this regard, and it's better to make sure the situation stays stable.
• Instant Runes: Magic used requires runes of light appearing somewhere. It's most notabe whenever Takuto creates something.
• Intimate Healing: Miyabi is an aggressive practitioner. It's implied she doesn't need to kiss someone to heal them but prefers this method.
• I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Metallis towards Suzuho when she unconsciously mentions Takuto's name while Metallis is trying to save her. It bothers him but he accepts it and then he gets over it as soon as the episode ends because she gives him a gift for saving her.
• Karma Houdini: No one suffers any long term consequences of their actions, save Synclavia and Miyabi (beacuse they're The Chew Toy). Even the two teachers who were trying to Ret-Gone Takuto and Suzuho get away without any complaints, because it's insinuated they weren't entirely in the wrong.
• Kissing Cousins: Suzuho is Takuto's cousin, and this is distant enough to make her a viable haremette.
• Large Ham: Sakuma is fond of shouting and gestures and making his own backgronds. This is especially the case concerning moe and when he brings out the large robot maid, and in the last episode when he forces Takuto to help him finish his manga.
• Laser-Guided Amnesia: The Academy hides their wanton destruction from Muggles using magic to prevent anyone from remembering them.
• Little Bit Beastly:
  • The Mimiger Z, a gun that gives everyone ears, and, once Eitaro gets done tinkering with it, paws and a tail.
  • Eneus has dog ears because her summoner has a thing for animal ears.
• Living Forever Is Awesome: Immortality means you have all the time in the world to study moe and collect rare items like limited edition capsule toys.
• Macho Camp: Hapshiel the Angel is tall, freakishly muscular, acts like a homosexual sterotype and kisses people. He made episode five messed up even by this show's standards.
• Magic Versus Science:
  • When the main characters use Functional Magic, what else would antagonists use but Psychic Powers?
  • The Midnight Blue Vampire is feared by the Academy because she can shut down all magic in the area and then wipe out mages with her mechanized sword.
  • Dr. Habarom uses Magic to trap Takuto in an alternate reality... and Science happens!
• Male Gaze: The intro has close-ups of Tanarot's scantily clad butt.
• Marry Them All: A complicated example with Takuto's harem. Suzuho and Suzuka agreed to share him pre-series because they're the same soul split in two but they don't like the others. Falce is okay with both Suzuho and Tanarot. The only one that does not want to share is Tanarot but her main focus is Suzuho. Takuto, for his part, treats them like roommates.
• Mecha-Mooks: The army of golems present at the Academy.
• Medium Blending: Claymation acting-as Censor Boxes, as well as Eye Catches.
• Meido: Miyabi and Synclavia are forced to dress like maids for Sakuma.
• Miko: Miyabi wears the traditional outfit and has Intimate Healing powers.
• Mood Whiplash: Episode 10. Quirky Miniboss Squad happens upon hero and his harem in their home base, which they mistakenly thought was vacant. So they seal them away to get some privacy. School finds out, and everyone uses it as an excuse to test out their Otaku themed "research" on the squad — mostly various ways to implant Moe into them. So far, so good, typical Wasshoi madness. Quirky Miniboss Squad turns out to be a Not-So-Harmless Villain, horrifically murders Tanarot and the rest of the harem, prompting Takuto to freak right the hell on out and instantly bring upon The End of the World as We Know It via an army of screaming "neutral" angel/demon fetuses. What the hell?
• Navel-Deep Neckline: Falce's standard garb is open at the middle, exposing her cleavage and stomach.
• New Transfer Student: Tanarot and Suzuho both transfer to Takuto's (non-magical) school. Tanarot under the name of "Tanarot Uncertain". This is never brought up again after the episode it happens in.
  • Eitaro and Eineus transfer to Takuto's school to protect Takuto and the girls, even though both of them are clearly over 20 years old. Eitaro made up a very unbelievable backstory for this.
• Nightmare Fuel: Hapshiel, both In-Universe and out. The entire school stops what they're doing to try to beat him up, which doesn't do anything but arouse him.

• Noodle Incident: The thing that split Suzuho's soul in two. Takuto explains it as "Stuff happened and now she can't talk."
• Nothing Is Scarier: Eineus states she instructed her sister and she won't be bothering them anytime soon. We don't see her instruction but we later see her little sister curled up in a ball against a snowy backdrop, with Wide Eyes and Shrunken Irises and a Madness Mantra of apologizing and promising to be good.
• Not-So-Harmless Villain: The Quirky Miniboss Squad of Episode 10. As funny as they appear they murder the harem.
• Oh, Crap!:
  • Gabriel and Agaliarept when they realize who SAkuMA EitaRO aka Samaero aka Samael is. Most people would know him under a different name — he is on an entire different plateau of power than the rest of the cast combined save, possibly, Takuto.
  • The dwarves at the end of episode 12, who are confident that the new school, Avalon, is built to withstand the fights between Suzuho and Tanarotte. Then they realize that they forgot to put the large screw in...
• Otaku:
  • It's implied that a lot of Demons and Angels become Otaku as well as other fanboys, because of Creative Sterility. Sakuma can bribe them with limited edition items.
  • Agaliarept and Gabriel called one store in particular "the holy ground of Moe".
  • Eitaro, who's a professor, a high ranked mage, a mad scientist, and an otaku.
  • Professor Stein will talk your ear off about the appeal of animal ears.
• Outside-Context Problem: The trio at the end of the series use supernatural powers, not magic.
• Out with a Bang: Alt!Suzuho and Alt!Suzuka. Originally Alt!Takuto thought Alt!Suzuka was tormenting him, but Alt!Suzuho begs him to go through with it after she regains control. It's never made clear if they did or didn't, and she dies off-screen immediately afterwards.
• Paid Harem: Eitarou starts out with Eneus, and acquires Synclavia and Miyabi. He doesn't pay them, per se; Eneus is bound by contract as a summoned being, and Synclavia and Miyabi are slaves.
• Pair the Spares: George/Hapshiel at the end. It's more of a mentor-disciple thing but given that this is Hapshiel the traditional definition still applies.
• Pet the Dog: Hapshiel of all people. He becomes Georges' mentor in the epilogue after George has his heart broken. Instead of the male-Marshmallow Hell one expects, he comes across as a genuinely caring sort. He still gets George to start dressing up like him.
• Power Fist: Tanarot's weapon of choice. Since they were designed by the staff at the school... they're cat paws.
• Power Levels: Tanarot's readings are off the charts, in a fashion similar to Dragon Ball Z — that is, her power level is over 9000. Eitaro even uses a DBZ-like scouter in the first episode, which promptly explodes when reading Tanarot's power level, after showing it at 100,000. Ultimately it is revealed that Tanarot is a tiny fragment of Takuto's power, which is strong enough to destroy the balance between the Angels and Demons if left unchecked.
• Pragmatic Adaptation: It's fairly obvious just by the opening animation alone that the anime only adapts a modest percentage of what the light novel series covers.
• Proud to Be a Geek: Magician's Academy is run by the geeks and this is especially evident in Eitarou and Professor Stein who give lectures on moe.
• Psychic Powers: As it turns out, both magic and ESP exist in this universe. This is discovered when Suzuho's magic cancel doesn't work on ESP powers.
• Reference Overdosed: The number of references to other series this show manages to cram in is absolutely staggering.
• Robot Maid: Giant Mecha Maid in the form of Eitaro's Mega-Eneus. Complete with Aphrodite-style Oppai Missiles.

• Ret-Gone: The final solution for dealing with Takuto after his breakdown. Fridge Horror when you realize in the alternate universe he was going under severe depression — the proposed solution appears to have been to find a way to modify the past so he would kill himself before creating Tanarot.
• Ridiculously Fast Construction: The dwarfs can rebuild anything in seconds.
• RPG Episode: Complete with little sprites for the characters.
• Saving Christmas: As only Macademi could do, the Christmas episode involves a Chain of Deals, harem infighting in skimpy outfits, Living Toys and a high speed destructive car chase.
• Schmuck Bait: When Eineus's "sister" shows up in episode 9 and vows to defeat Eitarou Sakuma and bring Eineus home, Sakuma lies and tells her that Hapsiel is Sakuma, and that she should defeat him. Each time she comes back, she gradually grows more and more purplish and weaker, and at the end can barely walk out of the room as Sakuma continues goading her.
• Serious Business:
  • Magician's Academy is the only place in the world that puts most of its students through a Death Course to decide the next school uniform. The guy who won the last 2 times cheats and wins again.
  • MOE IS LIFE!!!!
• Shapeshifting: Falce can change between all kinds of (generally stick-like) forms. Size is also free game, too — She appears as a pencil in a few episodes, shrinks to around 3 inches tall in another so she can get more enjoyment out of a can of soda, etc etc. Her natural forms are of a cute horned girl, and a magic staff that looks like it belongs in Phantasy Star Online.
• Slasher Smile: Synclavia and Miyabi were very happy to get some help working on the Doujinshi.
• The Slow Path: Alt!Takuto spends 40 years researching what appears to be biological engineering to recreate Tanarot in the universe he gets stuck in without magic.
• Split Personality: Suzuka, Suzuho's other side, known as the Midnight Blue Vampire. Her very appearance cancels all magic in the area.
• Stripperific:
  • Tanarot's standard outfit barely qualifies as pants.
  • Falce's always wearing an open robe that exposes her panties and her entire cleavage.
• Stalker with a Crush:
  • Metallis to George and later, Suzuka. Unlike other examples, he is regularly seen talking directly to her and the two are on good terms.
  • Fermi has a number of starlingly naughty fantasies about her boss, Agarept.
• Suicide By Hero: Falche, whose creator died before giving her a name or a purpose in life. She wants a reason to live, and since she can't find one, she decides to borrow one from the manga she had nearby: a Demon Lord's purpose — namely, dying to the hero in a fantastic final battle. She gets better, and decides to support Takuto as her purpose in life.
• Superpowered Evil Side:
  • Downplayed with Suzuka. She's not evil at all but she is significantly more aggressive and dangerous then Suzuho.
  • Overlaps with Superpowered Good Side, since Sakuma is undoubtedly a good guy, but his real identity as the The King of Poison, Samael clearly proves he is not the kind of person you would want to mess with even if you're God's Left Hand, Gabriel or Satan's Right Hand, Agaliarept themselves, something they discover quickly.
  Sakuma: If you want to stop me, you'd better bring Lucifer!
  • Do not make Takuto upset or he will awaken as the 'holy mother' and spawn monstrous and unaligned divinities that will wreck your shit no matter who you are.
• Sufficiently Analyzed Magic: This has already happened; that's why there's a school that teaches magic as if it were mathematics.
• Surprise Santa Encounter: In the final episode, the school's principal is revealed to be Santa Claus.
• Surreal Theme Tune: The OP goes right into insanity mode and barely makes sense.
• Taking the Bullet: Tanarot to Takuto. She got better, but not in time for Takuto to find out before his freakout.
• Talking with Signs: Suzuho, most of the time, because she can't talk.
• The Power of Love:
  • Metallis' backup power source, alongside a car battery is his intense love for Suzuka!...It's mostly the car battery.
  • What allows Tanarot to save Takuto is her love for him and then both of them to return to reality afterwards.
• Throw the Dog a Bone: Metallis, the previously-mentioned Chew Toy, gets a chance to shine when he falls in love with Suzuka, and ends up saving the day in spectacular fashion. Whatever the universe had against Metallis transfers onto George.
• Those Two Guys: Futaba and Hazuki, Takuto's two friends in the outside world.
• Too Hot for TV: But not when it comes to claymation.◊
  Agaliarept: "Don't worry girl, in the DVD the steam will be removed."
• Too Kinky to Torture:
  • Hapshiel. The only reason he stayed bound for 20 years was the seal aroused him so much he didn't want to remove it.
  • Agarept's lovesick maid, Fermi, lives for her master to punish her with his lightning bolts.
• Too Spicy for Yog-Sothoth: When Trincia suggests that Gabriel take Hapshiel back to Heaven, she acts like she doesn't see him. There is no possible way she couldn't see him.
• Torpedo Tits: Mega-Eneus has them, as an Aphrodite A parody.
• Tsundere: Lampshaded. A pair of magically enchanted bunny-ears cause whomever's wearing them to act Tsundere no matter what.
• Two-Teacher School: Or two and a half. Professor Stein and Professor Sagami are the only teachers we see. Sakuma seems to be an associate professor but he doesn't teach any classes.
• Unrequited Love Switcheroo: Happens to George and Metallis after the latter falls for Suzuka.
• Unsettling Gender-Reveal: On the viewer. That shapely body in the shower at the beginning of episode 2? Takuto.
• Unwanted Harem:
  • Takuto has Tanarot, Suzuho and Falce. Their fighting worries him and their advances scare him.
  • Since Eitarou wants his, it's more of a Paid Harem.
• Verbal Tic:
  • Tanarot ends all her sentences with "-nano de aru".
  • Suzuho is told to use "-puru" but it doesn't take.
• Wham Episode: Episode 10, or more specifically, the last 5 minutes of Episode 10. Tanarot is greviously injuried, Takuto freaks out, unaligned divinities spawn out of nothing, and the following episodes show a truly serious plot.
• Wide Eyes and Shrunken Irises: Multiple times, especially when people notice Hapshiel for the first time. Not funny at all when Takuto does it at the end of Episode 10.
