Fanon / Dream SMP

Go To

Given that much of the plot is happening within Minecraft with a lot of room for interpretation on different events, it's become fairly popular for different depictions of the characters to come up, with some interpretations being more common than others.

    open/close all folders

General/The World of the Dream SMP
  • Most characters (if not all) have been on the receiving end of Adaptation Species Change, being depicted as a hybrid of an animal or a Minecraft mob with no equivalent on Earth, and are sometimes depicted with traits associated with these creatures. Some of these hybrid ideas have basis in canon, in one way or another, while others rely on pure speculation and idea generation which is not associated with canon. Due to this piece of fanon and the Loads and Loads of Races aspect of canon, it is often speculated that there are few, if any, characters who are fully human on the SMP.
    • Many fans also believe that Fantastic Racism against hybrids exists in Minecraftian society, though it is a fairly controversial concept since a majority of the Dream SMP cast are played by white content creators.note  There are fans who try to get around this by making every major Dream SMP character a hybrid (or the odd non-discriminating human) and keep the Fantastic Racism in the background (as in, only within backstories and unrelated to the DSMP plotline and lore).
  • It is agreed by many in the fandom that the Dream SMP has a ban on flying. This is because access to the End, where one can get Elytra wings, is strictly forbidden on the server, to the point that cc!Dream would log on as DreamXD to prevent someone from breaking the rule. Considering that several characters are often depicted as Winged Humanoids in fanon, some fans take a step further and suggest that their wings would have to be clipped or hidden to enforce the rule.
    • This piece of fanon was challenged in light of the Elytra Event (currently known as the Team Seas charity event) in late October 2021, but fans have also concocted headcanons for how the winner of the server event would have wings, which usually involves being either born with them (and not using them for various reasons) or artificially constructing them. However, since Hannah won the event and gave an in-universe justification for her having wings, fans tend to believe that every time she lends someone her Elytra wings in the game, she's taking them on flights herself in-universe.
  • The in-game chat is represented in-universe as "communicators", a gadget used for communication, usually via texting. Artistic interpretations of "communicators" tend to vary depending on the person, but it is generally agreed that they can be customized according to the user.
  • Although the tie-in short story Hitting on 16 is said to take place in an individual timeline and yet is treated as canonical to Wilbur and his character arc, fans often conclude that the story is fully canonical and takes place around July or August 2021 (in real time), and believe the ending of the story is the cause of Ranboo's second canon death (the first would be either the detonation of the Community House or the prison, as per WMG).

    Applicable to multiple characters
  • Speaking of characters who can fly, Phil is often depicted with wings, a holdover from his Hardcore-series, where he's almost constantly wearing an Elytra. Phil has since canonized this.
    • Other than Phil, other characters often depicted with wings are Wilbur (due to being Phil's son), Tommy (due to him having wings on the Origins SMP server, or the popular headcanon he's also Phil's son), Quackity (likely in tribute to the A Lizard Named "Liz" trope, possibly canonized as of May 22nd, see below for more details), Bad (due to being a demon), and DreamXD.
      • XD having wings has since been canonized by Eryn in an offhanded comment in him and Eret's history tour livestream in early February 2022.
  • Wilbur's death at the hands of his father is almost universally portrayed in fanart as a first and last hug, with Phil holding Wilbur in his arms as he passes away. Needless to say, it ups the Tear Jerker factor of the moment in a way that the movement limitations of the game can't.
    • Similarly, Phil is often shown trying to protect Wilbur from the blast by pulling him into a hug and shielding him with his body. Those who draw him with wings often show his wings being damaged in the explosion, explaining why he can't fly in canon. Phil has since canonized this part.
  • Tubbo and Tommy are mostly depicted with a red and green bandana respectively, as a symbol of their friendship (since Tommy is most often associated with red, and Tubbo with green).
  • Certain characters are sometimes drawn with scars resulting from the events that took their canon lives. Tubbo is often depicted with burn scars from the fireworks at the festival, Quackity is sometimes drawn with a missing tooth (sometimes replaced with a gold tooth in light of his Las Nevadas arc) and scarring around his mouth (referencing Techno's line about how he's going to put a pickaxe through his teeth), and Ghostbur is often drawn with a huge open stab wound in his chest from his Suicide by Cop with help from Philza.
  • It has been theorized in some circles that Schlatt's final canon death might not be (directly) caused by a heart attack or a stroke as canon indicates. One of the most popular speculations was that he was being periodically poisoned by one or more members of Manburg's cabinet throughout his Presidency, with Quackity being the most probable option (since he had privately considered assassinating Schlatt in canon at least once before the White House conflict), but Tubbo and/or Fundy doing so isn't unheard of either.
  • Tommy once made an off-handed comment about having been made in a lab, which inspired some fans to make content about it for c!Tommy's backstory. Some would later also include Eryn as another lab experiment alongside Tommy after he joined the server, since him and Tommy are childhood friends in real life. Some fans take this a step further and jokingly theorize that the lab in question was DanTDM's Lab.
    • Eryn has since jossed this, explicitly outlining his character's origin pre-DSMP (being the product of an Interspecies Romance) and how he first met and befriended Tommy (by stumbling upon his house while out wandering). However, Tommy's canonical backstory before that is still open to speculation.
  • Somewhat similarly to the incident with Phil and Wilbur (see above), in light of the fourth "Las Nevadas" stream, Slimecicle is also often depicted to die (and revert into a dormant state) in Quackity's arms... as if what happened in the Minecraft livestream wasn't already heartbreaking enough as it is.
  • Connor is sometimes headcanoned to be the son of DreamXD, which is playing off of his retconned relation to Dreamnote  and XD's connection to time travel, as Connor is implied to be the other time traveler. It's also worth noting that when Wilbur asks Connor about threatening a god (in regards to XD), he says that it "wouldn't be the first time".
  • In canon, we never get an explanation as to how Schlatt got the revival book, but a common theory is that he got it from Connor, who he used to be close with on SMPLive, and who seems to have some sort of connection to time travel, and thus, to DreamXD, even if we don't know exactly what that connection is.
  • Puffy and Schlatt are frequently headcanoned to be siblings, due to both being sheep — a fact which Puffy actually points out with annoyance when Ant and Bad believe she is the only sheep on the server.

    Character-specific

Antfrost

  • Due to his character using the Fantastic Naming Convention of a Warrior Cat, there have been plenty of fandom jokes about Ant either speaking, thinking, or behaving like a cat from the Clans, often using Clan-style names and terminology for the server's player-characters or factions (e.g. calling L'Manburg "L'Manclan"). It's also a recurring joke that his server-mates are either confused or exasperated by him, or understand what he's saying but refuse to explain it to those who are locked out of the loop.
    • When he lost his first canon life during the Red Banquet, there were plenty of jokes about him respawning in or visiting the Dark Forest.

Awesamdude

  • In a more suggestive example of this trope, a good chunk of the fanbase claim that Sam works as a stripper in Las Nevadas when off of work from his Warden duties at Pandora's Vault.
  • Playing off of him being an anthropomorphic creeper in-game, many fans depict Sam as a creeper-based centaur-like figure.

ConnorEatsPants

  • Connor is frequently headcanoned as a trans man, particularly on Tumblr. This is sometimes visually represented in fanart by giving his onesie sewn-on top surgery scars.
  • While he is commonly accepted to be the other time traveler due to it being implied throughout the series, some fans instead believe him to be immortal.
  • Connor is often depicted as a half-hedgehog hybrid, Little Bit Beastly style.

Dream

  • According to Wilbur in an AMA, Dream is not human but rather a humanoid. You'd be hard pressed to find any fan depiction of Dream that actually uses this interpretation, since pretty much every major fan work depicts Dream as an actual human (with his iconic White Mask of Doom for good measure).
    • Dream's design overall usually matches up with most fan depictions of cc!Dream as well, typically wearing a green hoodie and sometimes armour.
    • In one of the more uncommon instances where Dream is depicted as non-human, he usually has either a floating white "volleyball" head or curly sheep horns. The latter is typically a reference to the formerly-popular fanon that Puffy was a mother figure to Dream as a result of the "duckling" incident, but has been waning in popularity since the prison lockdown arc as the headcanon was explicitly jossed.
    • For more comedic (or occasionally sympathetic) depictions, Dream is sometimes portrayed as the white blob that he appears as on his YouTube icon.
  • After being imprisoned in Pandora's Vault, many artistic interpretations of Dream have him wearing an orange prison uniform with the prisoner ID 001. However, a select few fans may prefer to give him the prisoner ID of 002... because 001 was reserved for Tommy.
  • There's a portion of the fandom that interprets Dream as a god or immortal figure of some sort for various reasons, often making him a Composite Character with DreamXD as a result. A smaller but still notable portion of the fanbase consequentially thinks that he and Cornelius (the character that he played in the Tales episode "The Village That Went Mad") are one and the same (largely since he didn't change his skin like everyone else in the episode), despite the fact that Cornelius died; these fans often overlap with those who believe that Cornelius and Catboy were in a relationship, and thus interpret that latter's death (and Robin's) as the catalyst for Dream becoming the villain he is now.

Drista

  • Drista is often interpreted as a Goddess of Chaos in the world of the Dream SMP.
  • In fanart, Drista is usually drawn as a Distaff Counterpart to Dream, wearing similar clothing to her older brother (a light green hoodie). However, she is also depicted to be shorter in height and having short and/or straight blonde hair to differentiate herself from Mamacita, Dream's canonical Distaff Counterpart (see below).

Eryn

  • A significant part of the fandom believes that Eryn had been tracking down the Dream SMP for months, starting from around the time of the Exile arc. This is usually in response to Tommy either sending concerning letters that hint at his mental state deteriorating or apparently not sending letters at all.
    • Some fans also claim that the Noodle Incident where Eryn ripped someone's heart out with his bare hands was while interrogating someone about where Tommy was.
    • Speaking of which, in many sadder interpretations, Eryn didn't recognize Tommy at first when they reunited in the world of the SMP, mainly due to Tommy's corresponding changes in aesthetic in fanon, occasionally with a dash of a more somber personality from his canonical Trauma Conga Line.
  • In light of Eryn canonizing his character as half-demon half-human, fans have speculated that he may be related to BadBoyHalo and his (adopted?) son Sapnap in some way, sometimes incorporating them into a family dynamic together. As of his "Origins" stream, the idea of BBH being Eryn's biological father has been explicitly jossed, though the headcanon that the two are related through Eryn's demon mother in some way is still present.

Fundy

  • Fundy is often drawn as a redhead with the ears and tail of a red fox, as an alternative interpretation to him being a full-on anthropomorphic fox in canon. Some also depict Fundy with white streaks in his hair, as a reference to the content creator's poliosis in real life.
    • He's also sometimes depicted to have fish scales in tribute to having a salmon for a mother, often in fairly conspicuous locations like the cheeks and neck.
  • Due to the vastly inconsistent reports on Fundy's canonical age, fan speculation goes that he's mentally the same age as his content creator counterpart but chronologically younger than other members of the server because he aged in "fox years" (which would technically make him chronologically about a year old around the time he joined the SMP).

George

  • Since he was seen building a mushroom house while the Manburg-Pogtopia War was waging in the background, fanart of George sometimes involve him wearing a mushroom hat and sometimes a matching cloak as well.
  • His "clout goggles" are sometimes interpreted to be colourblind glasses used to help him distinguish between colours in order to defy Colorblind Confusion.
  • George is often drawn with heterochromatic eyes with one brown eye and one blue eye, the former from his real life eye colour, and the latter from his initial Minecraft skin (which looks awfully based on a whitewashed Steve skin).

Hannah

  • After getting winning the Elytra competition and canonizing that her character is a fairy, fans started theorizing why Hannah never used her wings until now, with the two most common theories being:
    1. Her wings hadn't sprouted until recently, or
    2. She temporarily lost use of them when she got possessed by the Egg.
    • After her Elytra wings were detonated by Boomer, Hannah's wings have been drawn to be torn.

Jschlatt

Karl

  • Though usually drawn as human, Karl is still sometimes depicted as a colourful blob with a vaguely human shape. To be fair to the artists, that really was what his original Minecraft skin looked like, making this more or less canon other than the fact that he doesn't appear like this anymore.
    • To go with this, some people headcanon Karl to be a shapeshifter for this very reason.
  • After the first proper Tales From the SMP stream, the theory of Karl being a time traveler became popular due to his role as an Interactive Narrator in a story set hundreds of years before the current canon. Karl himself took a liking to this theory and showed a lot of love to fan works using this concept. Then, during the "Lost City of Mizu" stream, he made it canon, incorporating it into his character's lore... which proceeds to be played out for all it's worth.

Kristin

Mexican Dream and Mamacita/Girl Dream

  • Mexican Dream is often depicted to wear a beanie or somehow resemble Quackity, due to the two characters being played by the same actor. This ranges from him mostly resembling Dream except for the beanie and the Mexican flag painted on his mask, to looking exactly like Quackity, just with the addition of the mask, or looking completely different from either one of them.
  • Mamacita is usually drawn as a strong, muscular and buxom woman, in tribute to her PVP skills as virtue of being played by Dream himself. Her canonically blonde hair is also sometimes depicted to be curly or wavy.
    • Some people also headcanon her to be a trans woman and related to Dream somehow, most often as his twin sister (since she is "Girl Dream" and basically character-Dream's Distaff Good Counterpart).
  • Mexican Dream and Mamacita are also frequently headcanoned to be 5'8" and 6'3", respectively, reflecting their actors' real life height difference (or a rough estimate of it), and inverting the One Head Taller trope.

Purpled

  • Purpled is often depicted as an alien, with his UFO being his mode of transportation before settling on the server. As a result of this, quite a few designs of him include a pair of antennae.
    • This may have possibly become Ascended Fanon due to Purpled stating in a monologue that the UFO was part of his heritage and considered Quackity's destruction of it unforgivable. However, there is little to no context given in how exactly the heritage thing works, leaving the canonicity of this piece of fanon still up for debate.
    • Many also think that his backstory has something to do with the Bedwars minigame on Hypixel, since he is quite well-known for playing the game, to the point of being known as "Purpled Bedwars" both in- and out-of-universe.

Quackity

  • As mentioned above, Quackity is depicted by some fans as a Winged Humanoid — in this situation, usually a duck hybrid, mainly because of his name and Animal Motifs. The frequency of this headcanon has definitely increased ever since he is shown to use an Elytra in his May 22nd lore stream. However, there is not a given canonical reason for this yet, so it is currently unconfirmed whether the Elytra usage is based in Ascended Fanon or for another reason entirely. Despite the as-of-now ambiguous canonicity, many artists and big-name fans on various social media sites have subscribed to the headcanon, including SAD-ist.
    • The colour of the wings usually vary depending on the interpretation, but the most common one would be golden yellow.
    • As a follow-up to this headcanon, Quackity often ends up on the wrong side of the flight-ban rule (see above), or otherwise had undergone the same treatment in the Manberg era... the latter for fairly obvious reasons. Well, either that, or their growth was stunted somehow and for whatever reason.
    • Also in tribute to the headcanon, it's not uncommon to see designs of Quackity having feather-tufted ears, usually hidden under the beanie, and sometimes a matching tail.
    • To fuel the fire of this headcanon, Purpled's June 9th lore stream reveals that the interior of the Las Nevadas casino has posters for celebrating Quackity's "88th birthday", despite it being previously established in early SMP livestreams that he is around the same age of his content creator counterpart (19 when he joined the SMP). The most popular fan interpretation for this loops back to the duck hybrid headcanon, as 88 "duck years" is approximately 20.9 "human years" (translation: if a duck were to live 20.9 years on Earth, they would be very elderly for a duck, being the rough equivalent of a 88-year-old human).note
  • If not a duck hybrid, the other popular non-human interpretation for Quackity is him being a shapeshifter, in tribute to his many Minecraft-skin changes.
  • Regardless of whether or not he is depicted with wings, Quackity is almost universally drawn with a beanie hat, as his content creator is usually seen wearing one. (Which, surprisingly, has long been canonical since Quackity's first DSMP livestream where he said his Minecraft avatar is wearing a beanie instead of having a "really fucking shitty mullet".) The hat itself is usually drawn to be blue or black, though red/crimson designs emerged in the Las Nevadas arc, especially after the release of the official Las Nevadas merchandise beanie.
    • On top of that, he is also, in most cases, drawn closer to the appearance of the content creator than his Minecraft avatar... because it is believed by general consensus to be one of the most cursed things to grace the server. If anything, the ":]" smile-emoticon is often seen as either a pin on his beanie or occasionally a mask, Dream-style.
  • The diamond on his hot-bar during his April 12th lore stream is usually speculated to be his engagement ring. It's also often believed that the rings he planned on giving to his fiancés are worn on a chain around his neck (usually because they could be easily tucked away, symbolizing him hiding away the fact he's more of a lover than a fighter), or less often as earrings (which would cause them to be non-functional, which sometimes symbolizes him "giving up" on love in spite of still caring), though there are also people who speculate that they might have been melted down to form a gold tooth (because of the whole "Toothpick" thing), or even gambled away in some more pessimistic fan works.
  • Throughout his capitalistic Las Nevadas arc, Quackity is also sometimes depicted with a pet tiger, not just as a sign of decadence and wealth, but also as a nod to cc!Quackity's real-life pet cat named Tiger.
  • After the fourth "Las Nevadas" lore stream, in becoming Seriously Scruffy after Slime's death/shift into a catatonic state, many fans have speculated that Quackity has received severe burns from jumping into the lava after Slime, and that the wounds might have become infected in his refusal to take care of himself in his grief.
    • As a consequence of the above, some artists depict Quackity wearing gloves to hide burn scars on his hands and arms.
  • After his second death, some people portray Quackity as having back problems or needing a cane to help walk as a result of spinal trauma from the impact of hitting the pavement.

Sally the Salmon

  • There are many interpretations of Sally being a shapeshifter of some sort that can turn into a salmon, mainly to avoid the implications of how Fundy was conceived in canon. In this case, she would usually be portrayed as a redhead, occasionally with green eyes to match.
    • Since being continuously exposed to fanart of Sally, cc!Wilbur has started to become more open to the idea of Sally being a shapeshifter, making this idea potentially Ascended Fanon.
  • Her identity is also subjective to the interpretation, but many would ignore her canonical description as an accountant and instead give her a different identitynote . Oftentimes she's a mermaid or water nymph of some sort, or a sailor/pirate, or connected with water in some way, in tribute to her canonical origins as a fish.

Sapnap

  • Many fans take Sapnap's claim of being "born in fire" to infer to him being a blaze or demon hybrid (due to being BadBoyHalo's son, though whether he's adopted or not is Depending on the Writer), with the latter design usually incorporating elements such as small horns and a tail. Even though Sapnap the content creator has jossed this and confirmed that his character is human, many fans have elected to ignore this.
    • During Tina's first livestream on the SMP, Sapnap introduced the Nether of the DSMP world as where he was born, which has prompted further speculation on Sapnap's origins, usually circling back to the blaze/demon hybrid headcanon.
    • In Eryn's history tour livestream in early February 2022, he jumps into lava in the Nether and swims out, claiming that his survival was because he was "born in fire". This might possibly point to Sapnap possibly also being half-human and half-demon like Eryn, but this is not confirmed.
  • Sapnap is also often portrayed to have Playing with Fire powers due to his Pyromaniac tendencies, which in itself (the "pyromania" part) is Ascended Fanon from SAD-ist's animatic "Dream SMP War". Unlike the hybrid headcanon (which is used to explain the origin of his powers in fanon), cc!Sapnap endorses the idea of his character having fire powers, claiming that it "would be awesome", only that he didn't know if he could make it canon himself.note

Skeppy

  • Most fan depictions of Skeppy depict him as a human wearing a blue beanie (or a blue box-shaped mask) with a blue hoodie, sometimes with blue diamonds encrusted on his skin. That being said, his appearance in Minecraft-canon is an anthropomorphic diamond block. This has since become Ascended Fanon, with the animated segment in the Season 4 Eggpire finale depicting Skeppy with brown skin (much like his content creator counterpart) and the box mask variant design.

Slimecicle

  • Slime is frequently drawn to be entirely green because he is a slime that has assumed human form, i.e. closer to his appearance on the Origins SMP. This has since become Ascended Fanon to some degree through Slime/Charlie's green catatonic form in the epilogue of the fourth "Las Nevadas" stream.
  • After Quackity's defection to Pogtopia, Tommy started cooing over a slime in the underground ravine and yelled at Quackity for trying to kill it. It is suggested by some fans later on that the slime is actually Slimecicle in his true form.

Technoblade

  • Although Technoblade has been canonically identified as an actual Pig Man, he is often depicted as as a pink-haired Pretty Boy wearing a pig(-skull) mask or having pig ears (the former of which was popularized by SAD-ist, although it should be noted that SAD-ist also draws him with actual pig hooves, and her animatic "Hog Hunt" about Techno going up against the Butcher Army reveals that the porcine features are actually a part of his face and not a mask in the Totem scene). Techno himself has dubbed this variant "Anime Technoblade".
  • Many aspec fans resonate with Technoblade's disinterest in romance in the roleplaynote  and some headcanon his character to be aromantic, asexual, or both, or at least somewhere on the spectrum(s).
  • After his content creator counterpart's passing, fandom consensus goes that Technoblade the character has gone into retirement to live a calm and peaceful life, either in his tundra home or moving far away, and either way gets a happy ending.

Tina

  • In spite of Tina confirming her "cat ears" are demon horns covered in wool, most artists continue to depict her with what appears to be actual cat ears, and sometimes with a matching tail.

Tommy

General

  • Tommy was often drawn with braces in fanart, as he had braces in real life for all of Season 1 and over half of Season 2. He had them removed in December of 2020, and depictions of him with braces in fanart have declined since, with some joking that Tommy's character must have really struggled to find an orthodontist on the Dream SMP.
  • Many depictions of Tommy may include a small pair of red horns and a pointed tail like a demon, in tribute to his more mischievous nature. Similar non-human depictions of Tommy include being a raccoon or cow/mooshroom/moobloom hybrid.
  • One of the more common bits of fanon for Tommy's character is an interest in sewing. This is based on him questioning whether Techno had string (presumably to repair his clothing) and him commenting to Wilbur in the stream where they visited Las Nevadas that sewing and knitting could be a dangerous sport when done too quickly. Sometimes this is taken further, with the headcanon that he created L'Manburg's uniforms and flag, and/or repairs and makes outfits for the various members of the SMP.
  • Similarly to the case with Techno, aroace Tommy has gotten popular due to aroace fans, for a variety of reasons. These include 1) the discs Cat and Mellohi having green and purple hubs, respectively (which are colours of the aromantic and asexual flags, respectively); 2) Tommy generally speaking of relationships with women and marriage in a way that seems like he doesn't know how it works, and whose "girlfriends" are blocks of wood with carved pumpkins on top; and 3) his small conflict after the Prison Lockdown with Ranboo because got married to Ranboo while he was gone, i.e. your best friend pursuing a romantic relationship with someone else and leaving you behind.
  • It's not uncommon to come across works that depict Tommy as being religious, specifically in relation to Church Prime. This has become more popular recently (as of January 2022) as it was confirmed by Word of Saint Paul that the canon counterpart of Tommy's mother is the Goddess of Life, making c!Tommy himself possibly a demigod.

Post-Exile

  • During and after Exile, Tommy is often depicted wearing Wilbur's Pogtopia-coat as a Tragic Keepsake, sometimes with the compass from Ghostbur connected to Tubbo's house as a necklace.
  • Tommy is often drawn with long hair after Exile due to likely not having the tools to cut and care for it. Post-exile, this trait is often kept as a symbol of positive character growth. He is often given a braid during the time he spent living with Technoblade.
  • Tommy is sometimes depicted with a prosthetic leg after the Exile-arc. This is because, after escaping Logstedshire, Tommy wandered around in the tundra trying to find Techno's house for a long time, wearing just a ripped-up shirt and pants, and missing one of his shoes. Fans who use this interpretation figure that it'd be impossible to walk around barefoot in the snow for that long without getting frostbite, and hiding out in a dingy basement before being discovered by someone who could give him medical treatment wouldn't have helped.
  • In Season 3, Tommy is often drawn wearing cardigans/knitted sweaters and having flower/butterfly clips in his hair, to place more emphasis on his softer side. Usually, those cardigans and knitted sweaters are blue, most likely made from the wool of Ghostbur's pet sheep Friend.

Tubbo

  • Tubbo is sometimes depicted with horns during the period where he worked in Manburg, likely to draw comparisons with Jschlatt, as well as to symbolize his siding with the enemy (although he was The Mole). This sometimes extends to depicting Tubbo as a satyr, with goat or sheep like legs, hooves instead of feet, and floppy, furry ears. Schlatt and occasionally Puffy are sometimes drawn similarly.
    • Another reason cited to depict Tubbo as a Horned Humanoid is due to the recurring headcanon that Schlatt is his father, and Schlatt is usually depicted with ram horns. Since then, Puffy has canonized Tubbo having "little horns", and Tubbo later confirmed that he was a Horned Humanoid, but he explicitly states that the "Dadschlatt" theory isn't canon, possibly due to some implications regarding the events of Manburg Festival.
  • Despite his skin having blond hair, Tubbo is almost universally portrayed with brown hair. This is because his hair is brown in real life and on his Twitch-avatar, and to make him look more distinct from Tommy, as they look very similar when they're wearing matching clothes. However, there are still some fanart that depict him with blond hair, and some headcanons where he dyes his hair either blond or brown (making his natural hair colour a case of Depending on the Writer). cc!Tubbo himself is ambivalent on the subject.

Wilbur and/or Ghostbur

  • A lot of artwork of Wilbur in the Pogtopia arc and after his resurrection involve him having red eyes, though some fans dislike this depiction due to implied demonization of mental health through the art. As a result, those fans sometimes draw Wilbur with red-tinted glasses (often with heart-shaped or circular lenses) as an alternative, with the added bonus of them being literal rose-coloured glasses.
  • A lot of post-revival fanart of Wilbur depict him as a zombie of sorts, sometimes with literal stitches holding his skin together. While there are fans who draw him this way for the creepy factor, others simply use this as direct and symbolic reflection of his resurrection and reintegration with the living world.
  • There has been a fair amount of fanart depicting Wilbur with a pet cat, usually named "Mr. President", and not just basing it around Animal Motifs — the reason behind this is that his content creator counterpart has said he wanted to do that in real life, and a chunk of the fandom promptly decided that his character should have an emotional support pet cat.
  • A large section of the fanbase refuses to believe that Ghostbur was admitted to "Jubilee Hell", Wilbur's torturous Afterlife, as cc!Wilbur elaborated on Reddit. Instead, some of them subscribe to the idea that he got a comparatively more pleasant Afterlife than what his living counterpart experienced, such as being Together in Death with the previous incarnations of his pet sheep, Friend, meeting up with Mexican Dream and befriending him, ending up in the Origins SMP, spending time with Mumza (see below), etc. The Stinger of Wilbur's lore finale shows Friend being dropped off in the Afterlife with Ghostbur, though.

    Tales From the SMP
  • Thanks to a combination of their interactions during the episode (including them bunking together for most of it) and the fact that the people who play them were already often shipped together, it's become a popular headcanon that Catboy and Cornelius from "The Village That Went Mad" were in a relationship before their deaths.
  • It is not uncommon to interpret that Karl has a Reincarnation Romance with Sapnap and less commonly, Quackity, over the course of his time-travelling adventures. This is especially fuelled by the episodes "The Masquerade" and "The Pit", which feature explicit flirting between Karl and the character that cc!Sapnap plays. cc!Karl neither confirmed nor denied this piece of fanon but also thought the theory was "cool" when asked about it, which only added fuel to the fire.
    • Due to the Reincarnation Romance headcanon, as well as a surprisingly large amount of Ho Yay between the two in the episode, it is often believed that Jack Kanoff and Mason from "The Wild West" were in a relationship before their deaths. Foe Yay Shipping usually comes in full force for the episode because of this, and it's even fuelled by the fact that Mason was at least somewhat attracted to Karl.
  • In "The Pit", Phil's character Watson is obviously named after his content creator counterpart. This has prompted a fair amount of speculation that Watson is the same character as Philza Minecraft. It's backed by cc!Phil confirming that he originally wanted to play his main DSMP-character in the episode, implying that Philza the character would survive at least another century past the events of the SMP, but got an Executive Veto for the idea.
  • Many fans think of Ranbob from "The Lost City of Mizu" as nonbinary, because his colour scheme — black, white, yellow, and purple — consists of the colours of the nonbinary flag.
  • Going in line with the reality-based meme of "historians" trying to erase the existence of queer people, some parts of the fandom enjoys depicting Ranbob as that "historian" in question, 'explaining' same-gender relationships as close friendships. To be fair to them, there is basis in canon for this regarding the Fiancés, and the fans simply extend the courtesy to other relationships as well.

  • Some Dream SMP guests such as Ninja, Andrea, Corpse Husband, and KSI are depicted as their existing avatar appearances instead of the default Steve and Alex skins when they visit the server. For example, Corpse is usually depicted as his dark-haired and masked avatar as seen in non-DSMP media featuring him, though occasionally he might be interpreted as a Cat Boy as a reference to his Minecraft skin and possibly the character he played in the Tales episode "The Village That Went Mad".
  • While also not on the server, due to jokes of the Minecraft Championship being canon, Scott Smajor has occasionally been depicted in fan works to have some sort of presence on the DSMP, either as a Memetic Badass demigod host of MCC who can break people out of jail, bring players back from the dead, and force arch-enemies to work together for the sole purpose of the tournament (supported by him making a brief voice-only appearance on the server)... or Jack Manifold's roommate who for some reason chose to vibe in this Crapsack World as opposed to the gazillion other worlds he's been in.note  While he does make another voice-only cameo in Aimsey's character finale/epilogue as a florist, little else about his persona on the SMP is disclosed overall, allowing for the fanon characterizations to still remain somewhat plausible.
  • VelvetIsCake, Antfrost's real-life boyfriend, is often speculated to be what is inside the Egg or connected to the Crimson in some way, i.e. the VelvetIsEgg theory, and this is usually inferred to be what encouraged Antfrost to join the Eggpire, since he wasn't outwardly given one. cc!Antfrost later confirms part of this, saying that his character was promised Red's counterpart in exchange for his allegiance to the Blood Vines, and the cake at the Red Banquet was meant to be a nod to that. However, since he claimed that a version of Red "exists or existed" in the world of the Dream SMP, due to the wording of the statement, many fans believe that Red might have been fridged at some point in the story.
  • In relation to Church Prime, many headcanons included the idea that Prime as 1) a woman, often referred to as Lady Prime, 2) a life goddess or 3) Tommy's mother. As of January 2nd, 2022, it was canonized by cc!Tommy's real-life mother on Twitter that she was a life goddess in the DSMP-verse.
