Pets

    General

Note: Only some of these will apply to Rori.

    Rori

Species: Serval.

The main character of the story, whose view we see everything through, and the only character present in every scene as a result.

  • Apologises a Lot: Starts out like this. After being told several times he has no reason to do so, he seems to get the hint.
  • Badass Adorable: He's very cute, but he won't hesitate to leave his attackers in a world of pain if he needs to defend himself.
  • Berserk Button: After his therapy session, trying to demean him by reminding him of the abuse he suffered will trigger this.
  • Bi-Wildered: Spends much of the story in denial about his attraction to his Master.
  • Bishounen: Is delicate, especially at the start of the story, has slender, soft features, comes off as a bit girly and is considered cute by just about everyone.
  • Coming-Out Story: Goes through one over the course of the book, primarily towards his Master. It's a large part of the main plot.
  • Cowardly Lion: He spends much of the story afraid of people, but it doesn't stop him from living and, eventually, enjoying his life.
  • The Cutie: He is very sweet to those who are kind to him and he's mostly innocent.
  • The Cynic: Starts the story as this, and it's hard to blame him. Thankfully, he grows out of it with lots of love and care.
  • Dandere: He begins the story as a Shrinking Violet, which gets better but never fully goes away. With that said, he has been shown to be talkative whenever the right topic came up.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: It's stated that he has this, but few details are given. We eventually get the full details courtesy of Doctor Daniel Llawrence, and it's not pretty.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has his moments of this, much like his Master. But he is never mean about it, and Xávirac considers his snarking to be a good sign, since someone who is truly broken would not make quips like he does.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Starts out quiet, detached and aloof, but he warms up to people throughout the book. Especially Xávirac and Gloria.
  • Did Not Get the Girl: ZigZagged. He does hook up with the girl he falls for but, as she is someone else's pet, he will not be able to see her again for a while. He at least takes comfort in the fact that he'll see her eventually, and gets a cute memento from her.
  • Disappeared Dad: He mentions that he was raised by his mom and never had a dad.
  • Distracted by My Own Sexy: Once he starts gaining back the weight he lost after being starved, he finds he enjoys the way he looks.
  • Establishing Character Moment: The first time he is seen, he's on the run, but he is forced to stop and does put up a really good fight before he's overcome. It shows his determination, ferocity and strength, aspects he never loses despite wasting away.
  • Hates Being Called Cute: He does not mind it too much. Good thing, too, since it happens to him constantly.
  • Hates Being Touched: At first. It triggers his PTSD when he's not expecting it. He does okay when he knows it's coming and gives consent. Later on, it does not bother him.
  • It's All My Fault: It's clear that he blames himself for his entire squad getting slaughtered. He is thankfully set straight by Doctor Daniel Llawrence.
  • Kuudere: Shows signs of this, though he mostly fails at remaining aloof.
  • Lap Pillow: Comes to realize that Xávirac's lap is where he feels safest. Luckily for him, he's small enough to fit comfortably on it, even when sprawled out.
  • Lover and Beloved: Is the "Lover" of the pair, being that he is a young man who looks up to his much older (though perpetually young) Master, and eventually falls for him.
  • Masculine–Feminine Gay Couple: Is a somewhat feminine boy and dates Xávirac. That said, he also dates Gloria.
  • Mental Health Recovery Arc: Most of the book serves as this for him.
  • Missing Mom: He was raised by a single mother, but he always speaks of her in the past tense despite never saying what happened.
  • Nervous Tics: He has a tendency to hold and rub his wrists when he's nervous, which is frequent.
  • Panty Thief: He doesn't steal them, but he does keep and even wears Gloria's panties.
  • Parental Substitute: It's possible he sees Xávirac as this, since he grew up without a dad or father figure. It also makes his feelings towards him more confusing.
  • Pink Is Erotic: His favorite color is pink, and more than one character is delighted to see him wearing it.
  • Pink Means Feminine: He comes off as a bit girly and his favorite color is pink.
  • Pitbull Dates Puppy: The "Pitbull" to Gloria's "Puppy." Depending on how you look at them, he could be either one compared to Xávirac.
  • Power Dynamics Kink: He comes to enjoy Xávirac having power over him, but is initially unaware of just how much power he has in the arrangement. He also loves being called a 'good boy' by him.
  • Pretty Boy: Has soft features, a slim, boyish figure and is constantly being called cute.
  • Property of Love: He comes to enjoy being owned by Xávirac.
  • Rape as Backstory: Was violated numerous times by his captors before he was rescued by Melissa and brought to Xávirac. It's the biggest cause of his anguish and a large part of why he has so much trouble trusting anybody or accepting that anything good can happen to him.
  • Rape as Drama: The above is shown to have done tremendous damage to him and is treated with the appropriate seriousness and sensitivity.
  • Real Men Hate Affection: Subverted. He starts out hating being touched, but it's because it triggers his PTSD. He does okay with it if he knows it's coming. And he's shown to be affectionate towards his Master and Gloria.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Literally. While not a particularly manly character, his favorite color is pink and much of his harem outfit has pink in it. He also enjoys dancing, even getting belly dancing lessons from Lilian.
  • Sex God: Downplayed if not outright Played With, but still present. Both of his sex scenes, which are noted to be his first time (willingly) having sex with anyone, showcase his lack of experience and nervousness towards it, but he still manages to do well and please his partners. It helps that they were with Gloria and Xávirac, who were both very experienced and happy to instruct him on what to do.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Is the sensitive guy to Xávirac's manly man.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Is this throughout the story. It is the least severe of the traumas he has to overcome.
  • Shrinking Violet: Is very shy, quiet and withdrawn. Which makes sense, considering what he's gone through before the book starts and the new situation he is thrust into.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Rare Male Example. He wears fancy clothes at his Master's order but, as someone learns the hard way, he will not hesitate to defend himself if he needs to. Don't forget that he was a veteran.
  • Trauma Button: Reminding him of his past or a hint or reference to sex is enough to almost make him have a panic attack. At least until he goes to therapy. Trying to use this against him after that point will only make him angry instead. Coincidentally, having his trauma cured makes him even more confused about things, despite and because of the fact he can think about it without issue.
  • Troubled, but Cute: He has a lot of issues to work through, but is no less adorable despite them. Hell, he's probably cuter because of them.
  • Tsundere: Alternates between being warm and cold towards his Master for a while. He is never outright a jerk towards him, however.
  • The Twink: Has the build, is the right age, and is new (but in denial) about his attraction towards his Master. Though he is also into women.
  • Uke: He discovers he is submissive in bed with the help of Gloria. As his Master shows him, it's the best thing he can be as his pet.
  • Verbal Tic: Has a tendency to say "Uh," "Oh," and "Um" whenever he speaks due to nervousness. It happens less and less as the story goes on.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: He does not show much opposition to wearing women's clothing, and outright does so by the end of the book by his own choice, to Gloria's surprise and delight.

    Niko

Species: Snow Leopard.

The first pet Rori meets. His (soon, their) Master makes sure he's the first person he sees upon entering his new home.

  • Bathtub Bonding: Shares a platonic bath with Rori, which brings them closer.
  • Happily Married: To Lena. And their Master insisted on performing the ceremony himself, much to Rori's surprise.
  • Keet: Is cute, hyperactive and cheerfully tells Rori whatever he wants to know.
  • Kindhearted Simpleton: Downplayed example. He's not the sharpest knife in the block, but he's far from stupid. However, he's older than Rori and still in school, due to his previous Owner not wanting him to have an education.
  • Stepford Smiler: Is possibly this, as it's implied he's had a traumatic past of his own and might suffer from low self esteem.

    Lena

Species: Jaguar.

The second pet Rori meets. She was put in charge of giving their new arrival a bath.

  • Bathtub Bonding: Was told to give Rori a bath, and does so. He especially appreciates her gentle but thorough touch.
  • Closer to Earth: Is more mature, focused and intelligent than her husband.
  • Happily Married: To Niko.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite being Closer to Earth, she has a comical overreaction when Rori accidentally splashes her in the baths, eventually leading to an outright splash fight between her, Rori and Niko before she gets them back on track.
  • Women Are Wiser: Is the smarter one between her and her husband.

    Lilian

Species: Lion.

The third pet Rori meets. Despite not making the best first impression, her and Rori get along really well and spend lots of time together.

  • Hidden Depths: Rori initially thinks she's a bit of a bimbo, so imagine his surprise when he finds out she enjoys quiet nights in the library and is just as much of a bibliophile as he is.
  • Nice Girl: Is this. She is probably Rori's closest friend aside from (eventually) his Master.
  • Panthera Awesome: Is a lion, and has a strong but sweet personality.
  • Sultry Belly Dancer: Played with. She is a belly dancer and gives lessons on it, but she does it because she enjoys it. At the same time, Rori definitely admires her whenever she does.

    Gloria

Species: Jaguarundi.

One of Tavixis's pets. Decides to spend time with her Master instead of Xávirac's pets, until she takes a shine to Rori.

  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Averted for her. Her breasts are more modestly sized compared to the other females encountered in the story, but Rori finds her the most attractive of them all.
  • Casual Kink: She has little reaction (other than surprise and delight) to Rori wearing her panties.
  • The Charmer: She claims to have her Master wrapped around her finger. A single clue suggests she's telling the truth. She also has Rori infatuated with her in little time.
  • Cuddle Bug: She loves hugs, holding hands and cuddling. Especially with Rori.
  • Ethical Slut: She's very kind and caring, but is also sexually active.
  • Every Proper Lady Should Curtsy: She thinks so at least, and does this to Rori. Leading him to hastily return the bow so as to not appear rude even though he doesn't know what the custom is when it comes to bowing to other pets.
  • Eyelash Fluttering: She bats her eyes at Rori whenever she catches him staring at her face.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: She can cook rather well, according to her. It's one of the things her Master enjoys the most.
  • Fetish: She enjoys seeing men wearing women's undergarments, if her reaction to Rori wearing her panties is any indication.
  • Footsie Under the Table: She rubs her feet on Rori's legs and lap while they're waiting on dinner. She was about to go even further, had Julian not arrived with their food at that particular moment.
  • French Maid Outfit: Her harem outfit resembles one, complete with a skirt.
  • Genki Girl: Confident, outgoing, assertive, sweet and full of sunny energy.
  • Girly Girl: Proudly and traditionally feminine, down to wearing makeup. Helps that she used to be a beautician with her own salon.
  • Going Commando: Initially halfway, as she does not wear a bra under her harem top. Eventually fully, as a result of Rori wearing her panties.
  • Good Bad Girl: She is sweet, loving, affectionate, and open and honest about most things, including how much she enjoys sex.
  • The Makeover: She specializes in giving these, being a former beautician, and gives a mini one to Rori.
  • Manic Pixie Dream Girl: Gets Rori to come out of his shell. She even convinces him to go without his veil!
  • Massage of Love: Gives one to Rori. Complete with a happy ending!
  • More Experienced Chases the Innocent: She is sexually active and pursues Rori, who has never (willingly) had sex with anyone.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Is rarely seen without a smile on her face.
  • Pink Is Erotic: Wears black and white clothes, but has pink panties, which she has Rori feel, and later gives him to remember her by.
  • Proud Beauty: She knows and is proud to be beautiful.
  • Signed with a Kiss: She gives her undergarments to Rori to remember her by and, after Rori points out that her scent will come out in the wash, leaves a lipstick mark on them so he'll always have a small part of her with him.
  • Supermodel Strut: Walks with a noticeable sway in her hips. It certainly catches Rori's attention! To the point where he subconsciously imitates it later on.
  • True Blue Femininity: Her thigh-high socks are blue, which is one of the few colors she has on her. And she's by far the girliest character in the story.
  • Vanity Is Feminine: She takes greater care of and pride in her appearance than the other females.
  • Verbal Tic: She has a tendency to say "Mmm..." whenever she's pretending to think about something.

Masters

    General

    Xávirac

Species: Dragon.

The one that the others call 'Master,' the one who pays the servants, looks after the well being of the residents, and Rori's new owner. Lives in a massive castle that he shares with (what is implied to be) thousands of people who pay him to live there. Is literally the king of said castle. His word is law and he is the first and last authority on most matters.

  • Above the Influence: Refuses to take advantage of Rori, despite having several opportunities to. This is part of what finally wins him over and convinces him he's a good person.
  • Act of True Love: Offers to get Rori professional help when he sees just how much he is still suffering from the trauma of his past, while also refusing to let Rori become dependent on him. It's enough to finally convince Rori that he's not secretly awful.
  • The Atoner: Is implied to be this. We don't get many details about his past but, according to him, he used to be a tyrant and a terror to the common folk.
  • Benevolent Boss: The servants appear perfectly happy working for him and he is on a first name basis with them (and vice versa). The residents pay him taxes in order to live in his home and, considering the rest of the world is implied to be unstable and unsafe, it's likely a good arrangement for them.
  • Berserk Button: While he's more muted about it than most examples, outright disrespecting his pets angers him immensely.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Hahahaha! ...seriously, though, don't. The results will not be pretty.
  • The Charmer: He knows exactly how to get someone to like him and do what he wants, and they usually like doing it, too. It's likely nobody else could have gotten Rori to do what he was told, but he makes it seem easy and gets Rori to warm up to him at the same time.
  • Closet Key: Is this to Rori. And possibly some of his other pets.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Has his moments of this. Usually with little or no indication that he's joking.
  • Delightful Dragon: For sure.
  • Dragon Hoard: He has a massive one that took him hundreds of years to acquire.
  • Establishing Character Moment: He is first seen when Rori is brought before him. He is surrounded by his pets in various states of undress and commands them to leave the room so he can speak to Rori alone. Once alone, he opens with a couple of jokes, welcomes him, and establishes his power over him, albeit never in a mean, condescending or insulting way.
  • Extreme Libido: While he is not obsessed with sex, he is able to have sex thirteen (later, fourteen) times in a row and on a weekly basis without getting tired.
  • Fiction 500: His Dragon Hoard is possibly one of the largest in all of fiction, filling the entire inside of a mountain.
  • Gender-Equal Ensemble: He has seven male and seven female pets.
  • Gentle Giant: Is very tall and muscular, but he shows endless patience and understanding and, while he has a firm grasp, he is always gentle at the same time.
  • Harem Seeker: Was this before he got his pets. He may have been partially responsible for it being legal to own people as pets in the first place.
  • Has a Type: He is clearly fond of felines.
  • Hunk: As he is described as looking like a chiseled obsidian statue, we can guess he is this.
  • Large and in Charge: Towers over everyone else and is the one who calls the shots in his home.
  • Lonely at the Top: Part of why he decided to get pets was so he could stop being this.
  • Loved by All: All his pets adore him and all the servants love working for him.
  • Lover and Beloved: The "Beloved" of the pairing, being that he is much older than Rori and mentors him long before Rori develops romantic feelings towards him.
  • The Matchmaker: It's implied that he, along with Tavixis, deliberately set things up so Rori and Gloria would get together.
  • Mentor in Queerness: While it is clear he swings both ways, he does everything possible to help Rori come to terms with his newfound sexuality and attraction towards him.
  • More Experienced Chases the Innocent: He has a number of pets he regularly sleeps with, but he still spends a lot of his time with Rori. Unlike most examples of this trope, he is not wanting romance or sex from Rori, just companionship and bonding.
  • Nice Guy: Despite his size and potentially intimidating appearance, he is warm, kind and patient to pets and servants alike, and beloved by them as a result. Even though he is in charge of everything and has essentially absolute power, he does not talk down to anybody. If anything, he acts like they are more important than he is. Just don't mistake this as weakness.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Very downplayed. He is open and affectionate to his pets, who always eat it up. But he shows this at the wrong time towards Rori, which comes close to triggering a full blown breakdown.
  • The Paragon: Rori is only able to get better with his and Daniel's help. He's likely not the first person he's helped.
  • Real Men Cook: He sure can, and occasionally takes over cooking duties while still paying the other chefs. But he is not quite as good at it as Julian.
  • Real Men Hate Affection: Averted. He is open and affectionate to his pets.
  • Seen It All: As he's been alive for thousands of years, he has a good claim for this. That being said, Rori still surprises him many times. He finds it exciting.
  • Seme: Is always the dominant partner in bed. He is still a kind, patient and attentive lover.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Is the manly man to Rori's sensitive guy.
  • Sex God: His pets greatly enjoy having sex with him. And considering he is able to satisfy all thirteen (later fourteen) pets every Sunday morning, this reputation seems well earned.
  • Sheep in Sheep's Clothing: Is exactly as benevolent as he acts, despite what Rori suspects about him.
  • Shipper on Deck: It's implied that he, along with Tavixis, wants Rori to hook up with Gloria.
  • The Stoic: He does not show a lot of emotion most of the time. It's shown to be an act.
  • The Storyteller: More than once, he entertains someone (always one or more of his pets) with stories of his past. One even gave details of his sordid past.
  • Terror Hero: Believe it or not, he is this. At least to the point where people would rather flee than potentially face his wrath if they gave him or Rori trouble.
  • Uncle Pennybags: Appears to take joy in buying expensive things for his pets.
  • Verbal Tic: He tends to say "Hrmf." when he's thinking over something.
  • We Can Rule Together: A rare non villainous example. He wants nothing more than to benevolently control more of the world and provide safety and security to a lot more people, but he'll need the help of another Dragon Master to do so. Since dragons are not known to work with one another or share power, this desire has gone unrealized.

    Tavixis

Species: Dragon.

Another Dragon Master that Xávirac hosts, along with his pets.

  • Anti-Hero: Possibly. He is not as altruistic as Xávirac, but he is still polite and respectful, and his pets love him, if Gloria's fondness for him is any indication. It is implied that he keeps his pets on a shorter (figurative) leash than Xávirac does and they might not have as many privileges as his do. Aside from that, we don't get a deeper look into his morality.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: He is the youngest of the Dragon Masters. It is implied he is Xávirac's favorite of them despite/because of this.
  • Delightful Dragon: Gloria certainly thinks so, at least.
  • Has a Type: Seems to prefer having more exotic species as his pets.
  • The Matchmaker: He, along with Xávirac, are implied to have set things up so Rori and Gloria get together.
  • Shipper on Deck: If there's one thing him and Xávirac agree on, it's that Rori and Gloria would make a cute couple. He may have even helped set things up for them to get together.
  • Token Good Teammate: Implied. While Xávirac is undoubtedly the best of the dragons, he claims that Tavixis is the next best, and he has been shown to be a good judge of character.

    Satiirian

Species: Dragon.

A Dragon Master who appears near the end when Xávirac hosts him and his pets. Is known as "The Rainbow Dragon" amongst friend and foe alike.

Other Characters

    Daniel Llawrence

Species: Asiatic Lion.

The doctor brought in to treat Rori when his trauma proves too much for him to handle by himself. Is proven to be the best there is at treating trauma using some sort of magic.

  • All Psychology Is Freudian: Has some elements of this, including the most familiar. But Freud never used magic, and Daniel's treatment does not focus or even touch on sex.
  • Freudian Couch: Uses one to help Rori feel comfortable.
  • The Paragon: He's a doctor, it's his job. Unlike most, he actually makes people better.
  • Post-Treatment Lollipop: Not candy, but he does give Rori the ingredients for the tea he makes for him.
  • Riddle for the Ages: It is not revealed who or what he is by the end of the book, nor why or how he has magic when nobody aside from the Dragon Masters is known to have it, or why he's apparently the only character with a last name.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Appears in only one scene, but he is absolutely vital in Rori overcoming his trauma.
  • Super Doc: He specializes in trauma, but it's implied that he has helped numerous people with all sorts of problems. He even uses magic to help treat his patients.

    Julian

Species: Wolf.

One of the servants and one of only two whose name is given. He makes food for everyone and Rori in particular.

    Melissa

Species: Tiger.

The first person Rori meets. She is the one in charge of recruitment for Xávirac and for selecting his pets, and the one who saves him from imprisonment and a slow death from starvation.

  • The Creon: Is revealed to be the one in charge whenever Xávirac is not around, and willingly steps down whenever he returns.
  • Fiery Redhead: Has long red hair, shows assertiveness and refuses to be pushed around.
  • Nice Girl: She is very sweet and pleasant. It's likely a large reason why she is in charge of recruitment.
  • Panthera Awesome: Being a tiger likely helps give her the authority needed for her job.
  • Silver Fox: Rori gets the feeling she is much older than him, but it does nothing to diminish how attractive she is.
