Generation 1 -Myth-
Mori Calliope
- Ghost Rider ExplanationOne of Calli's neighbors owns and has been heard in the background driving a very loud motorcycle. She has apologized several times for his disturbance and has called him a skeleton, leading her chat to believe she's being accosted by the antihero Ghost Rider. One viewer took this a step further, renaming his account "Noisy Neighborhood Ghostrider" and donating to all the EN girls in-character.
- Morihongo ExplanationIn the same vein of Miko's "elite" English and "Marinenglish," Calli has decent knowledge of Japanese, being able to converse at a basic level; however, her pronunciation is notably stilted, resulting in over-enunciation of what she is trying to say.
- Nanchara Kanchara/なんちゃらかんちゃら ExplanationA nonsense word akin to "blah blah blah" or "yadda yadda yadda," used by Calli when attempting to read Japanese but blanking on the meaning of the kanji she's viewing. She says it so often that her fans will often donate to her with this as their message when they don't really have anything interesting to say.
- [X] is scuffed ExplanationIn almost every stream since her debut, Calli has run into technical difficulties of some kind, and either her or her chat will usually point to the issue as that one thing being "scuffed" in particular. It also is referenced in regards to the games she's playing, where something that happens in the game that makes something more inconvenient or difficult as being a "scuffed" element of the game.
- Guh ExplanationA cute sound she makes after taking a sip of her drink, like a downplayed Beergasm. Acknowledged in one of her track-making streams where it becomes one of the sounds she tries to use in her track.
- Fans have begun to notice that Calli tends to be the first to die in most multiplayer games, which they find quite a bit ironic considering her status as a Reaper.
- Palm Spaghetti ExplanationOne of Calli's favorite rappers is Eminem. That said, she's well aware of the memes surrounding his single "Lose Yourself" and likes to reference the mondegreen when talking about her lack of skill in games related to her nerves. She also uses it whenever she needs to excuse herself during a stream.
- Cultural Cross Pollination Explanation A phrase that Gigguk came up with during Calli's guest appearance on the Trash Taste podcast that caught on due to how awkward he sounded during its delivery. Due to hololive's growing global reach in 2020, this meme is used during English-only streams, cross-branch collabs, and when members interact with others outside their branch.
- Not Your Dad Explanation After Calli streamed a readalong of My Dad's the Queen of All VTubers?!, her audience would regularly call her "dad" to which she would respond by telling them she isn't their dad. Due to their similar sounding name, others have made reference to Maury was well as extending this to be in relation to Ollie (with Kiara as her mother), due to Ollie's personality being very close to Kiara's and her undead nature being more in line with Calli's theming. She has nowadays grudgingly accepted that chat will call her this no matter what so doesn't protest.
- Anemachi is Calli ExplanationA joke originating from a short fancomic showing Anemachi restyling her hair and changing her clothes to become Calliope, which resurfaced after Coco's Reddit Shitpost Reviews where Calli was the guest, where the reaper was shown said comic and asked if she was indeed the elder Hoshimachi sister. A few fans have since jokingly pretended that Anemachi and Calli are indeed the same person, which was helped along by the coincidence of Calli going on a week-long break at the end of May 2021 and Anemachi appearing in one of Suisei's talking streams right that evening after nearly a year since she was last heard.
- Smalliope ExplanationAfter Council introduced not one, but two new members who are taller than Calliope (Kronii and Sana), fans started making short jokes about Calliope, such as suggesting that she's only taller than Kiara because she wears heels, while Kiara wears sneakers, or suggesting that Calliope's "cool rapper" persona is meant to compensate.
- Two questions ExplanationCalli put up a meme template for people to use where she pops up from the bottom with a gun to ask what the fuck she's looking at and to just stop. Template here.
- Calli's Eyes ExplanationCalli's eye tracker on her avatar is noted to be one of the most highly expressive in hololive. Whenever she hears something that confuses her, her eyes tend to shift all over the place.
- Calli Can't Communicate ExplanationFans have latched on to the resemblance between the expressions of Calli and Komi, of Komi Can't Communicate fame, in a certain panel of the Calli's Christmas Catastrophe comic.
- Pregnant Calli ExplanationCalli claiming she wanted to reduce her alcohol consumption during a stream somehow caused chat to jump to the conclusion that it must be that she's secretly pregnant and just trying to hide it, leading to them often posting comments treating that as the de-facto reality, much to her chagrin.
- Horse Audio/Horse Fiasco Explanation (Extremely NSFW)Around February-March 2023, an infamous /vt/ post showcased an uncomfortable amount of deepfake AI audio tracks of Hololive EN girls, primarily Calli, engaging in intercourse with horses. The audio would then be passed around similar to a Shock Site, Calli's in particular gaining more traction than the others and getting some fanart. Acknowledged on Calli's April Fool's Day 2023 stream, where she said that she hoped those that made fanart based on the audio "get the help they need", and complains that because of them she had to use a boring car for her sheriff outfit reveal instead of a proper steed.
Takanashi Kiara
- Bottom Left ExplanationDuring holoEN's second collaboration stream, the girls made an "alignment chart" mapping their intelligence and purity; the chat immediately latched onto "Bottom Left", in other words, dumb and perverted, a sentiment further bolstered when Kiara's illustrator, huke, personally agreed with the assessment. Chat will spam "bottom left" or ↙️ during Kiara's moments of silliness or perversion; her high-pitched laugh may sometimes be subtitled "HA↙️HA↙️HA↙️HA↙️HA↙️" akin to Pekora. Conversely, chat will spam "bottom right" when she displays intelligence (but still perverted) or "top right" for intelligence and purity. Since then, it should be noted that Kiara's avatar is now positioned at the bottom left corner of the screen during many of her streams, with Kiara confirming this was done specifically in response to the meme. This meme has since spread to all of hololive and is used for (nearly) every idol without exception.
- Kicky Ricky ExplanationKiara's stream intro is "kikkeriki", which is the German onomatopoeia for a rooster's crow, fitting with her bird theme. Calliope pronounced it as "Kicky Ricky" in order to annoy her, and the joke stuck with Kiara's fans, as if she's encouraging people to kick anyone named Ricky.
- Papa huke ExplanationEach hololiver refers to their illustrator (and sometimes their Live2D artist/rigger) as their parent. huke, Kiara's illustrator, stands out for being consistently active in her streams' chat, either supporting or messing with her. The audience likens it to a doting (and sometimes mischievous) father.
- Real stream starting now ExplanationKiara's planned activities tend to run standard length for most hololive talent, usually no longer than a 2 hours or so. Her Superchat readouts, however, will drastically extend the length of her streams, sometimes being several times longer than the gameplay section itself. This is due to her reading and responding to every single message that accompanies a donation, sometimes with very lengthy back-and-forth conversations with her audience regarding the message, as well as a penchant for going off on mental tangents while in the middle of the readouts. Most of her more devoted fans tend to look forward to her readouts more so than the actual stream itself simply because of the variety of content that can be generated from it.
- KFP: An actual cult ExplanationA post on the hololive subreddit was made regarding the interpretation of each of the hololive EN members' fandoms, and juxtaposed Ina's "tentacultists" with Kiara's "KFP", stating that the former, despite being named as such, is not actually a cult while the latter engages regularly in cult-like behavior. This isn't helped by Kiara humorously encouraging this, such as telling her fans to watch her content exclusively.
- Aggressively Gay ExplanationAfter Kiara had read out her own entry on the Characters page that called her this, her audience latched onto the title to refer to her sexually charged comments whenever encountering female characters in addition to referring to her as "bottom left."
- Nah, she's European. ExplanationA follow-up to whenever Kiara's aggressively gay tendencies are brought up, as a reference to the song from the Legally Blonde Musical. Expect this line to always be followed up with "she's gay AND European!"
- Casper ExplanationAfter moving to a new house when she was still in Japan, Kiara said she had a "ghost" living in the ceiling and had "Exorcists" in to try to remove it. The chat nicknamed it after the eponymous friendly ghost. She later let slip that it was a mouse and feels sorry for trying to get it removed, later saying she would be OK with it staying there as long as she doesn't see it.
- Stream X ExplanationStarted from "Heart Challenger", when her channel got shadow-banned that injured traffic to her original song, prompting people to advertise the song to compensate with "Stream Heart Challenger!" The meme would go on to other holomembers' original songs like "Stream Reflect" or "Stream Violet", the latest being "Stream Sparks" for her third original song.
- Kiara the Yakuza ExplanationDuring her playthroughs of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, she started adding new art assets of various weapons and threatening the chat with them, including a gun, a spiked bat, a Frying Pan of Doom, a spiked ball and chain, and a katana. During her June 6th, 2021 stream, a combination of the plot and an actual bot spammer in the chat gave her a good reason to bring out all of them at once (except the gun, which she just couldn't find for some reason.)
- "OK but..." ExplanationOne of Kiara's homegrown memes where she praises the qualities of a given object or person as "divine" and "exquisite". Now complete with green screen for all of your clipping needs, and the opposite of Calli's "two questions" meme.
- Kikkerikick ExplanationA meme revolving around Kiara's enthusiastic high kick during her 3D debut in the 2022 Hololive Festival, which surprised many of her fellow idols. This has sparked several edits where the image of Kiara is superimposed into screenshots of fighting games, or has cropped out stills of other people placed on top of it to create the illusion that she's kicking the lights out of them.
- "It is Wednesday, my dudes!" ExplanationThis is an especially popular Kiara-related meme on Reddit that the forum users post on a weekly basis. This being a parody of the meme of the same name, but with the picture of the associated frog being replaced by Kiara's thumbnail of am frog instead. Frogiwawa variants of the meme have cropped up as well after the character's official introduction.
- Kiara's pancake butt ExplanationA long-running meme poking fun at Kiara's rather lackluster rear end that's plainly visible in full body shots or during 3D concerts, especially compared to the more well-built members of her generation. Kiara herself is deeply aware of this issue and has been trying to get her model "upgraded" for a long time to little gain. Even after receiving a generous upgrade in late 2022, which expanded the size of her butt considerably, this still remains somewhat of a sore point for Kiara whenever the topic is mentioned, especially if it concerns a member who's significantly more plump than herself (e.g. Iofi).
- Quaso ExplanationA meme spawned from Kiara's peculiar pronunciation of "croissant" that eventually became a universal catch-all chat term for just about anything happening on her channel.
- Kiara is Ame's #1 GoslingExplanation"Gosling" is a term used by Amelia Watson's fanbase the Teamates, for a fan who unconditionally love Ame. After Kiara was outed as a huge fan of Ame and possibly having Ame as her oshi, both the Teamates and Kiara's own KFP fanbase latched onto Kiara being the #1 Gosling
Ninomae Ina'nis
- Ina's Braincell ExplanationEarly on, Ina joked that she only had one brain cell. This joke gets played straight for moments where she messes up. When she figures out something complex, the chat jokes that either her single brain cell is working incredibly hard, or the rest of her brain power comes from an outside source (either her chat, which makes them her remaining brain cells, or her tentacles) Nowadays the single brain cell is shared among the Takodachi as a self-deprecative community joke or to illustrate their unity.
- INAFF ExplanationPun on "Enough." Ina is notorious for her reputation as a Pungeon Master at this point, so much that one sign of being an Ina fan is having a penchant for making puns. This statement is used by viewers and Ina herself when they are making beleaguered requests to stop making puns, despite the request being yet another pun. Another variation is calling a pun during a more serious moment "Ina-ppropriate."
- We live Ina society ExplanationAnother very common pun is substituting Ina's name for "in a" in various sentences, which is starting to leak beyond just Ina's own streams. The example given here comes from this video.
- Ina sing unravel ExplanationA hybrid meme that combines "Alexa play 'Despacito'" with the song "unravel", which was meme'd to play over sad imagery to make them (more) humorous. Ina's cover of the song comes from her very first karaoke stream and is notable for being the only cover of the song among the English branch at the time. Fans tend to insert her cover over clips of the English branch whenever something unfortunate happens to them. Ina's love of puns leads some fans to twist the song title into "Ungravel" whenever Minecraft is involved.
- Ina's GIANT ASS Explanation... keyboard. Ina once muted in the middle of saying "Let me move my giant-ass keyboard." Unsurprisingly, Ina's assets have been exaggerated in fanart and discussions as a result. Came back after the big off-collab in 2022 showed off Ina in 3d with very sizable hips.
- Ina of the mountain, what is your wisdom? ExplanationDuring her solo streams, she sometimes dispenses Ice-Cream Koans that both she and the chat jokingly treat as sage advice.
- Ina of the [X] ExplanationThough it's usually of the mountain, chat will sometimes reference something else when asking Ina for her "wisdom". Things relevant to recent jokes like a lake, her house's corndog-looking tree in Minecraft and her forehead.
- Future Ina / Past Ina ExplanationSometimes when Ina's too lazy to do something important, she'll just procrastinate and call it "Future Ina's problem". This has led into her joking that her past self is some sort of supervillain who's always trying to sabotage her, and eventually evolved into a miniature Myth Arc where she starts receiving Apocalyptic Log-style messages from her future self across space and time trying to prevent her other version from causing The End of the World as We Know It and the like. The fans took it and ran with it.
- Violet ExplanationDue to the extensive amount of time between Ina initially announcing "Violet" on May 21st, 2021, and when it actually released on August 4th, it became common for her fanbase to make jokes about "Violet" being in Development Hell, especially after both Gura and Kiara released new songs of their own on June 21st and July 6th, respectively. Seems to have completely died down once "Violet" actually released.
- FIVE GOLDEN RINGS!! ExplanationAs part of their December 2021 Christmas celebration, HoloEN released a cover of the traditional carol 12 Days of Christmas, with Ina's part being Day 5 where her true love gives her five golden rings. While the other members sang their parts normally, Ina's segment became especially notable (and memeable) due to its distinctly loud and choir-like reverberations, and as a result the Caps Lock is almost mandatory whenever it's brought up. Meme edits that splice Ina's face into other ring-related medias like The Lord of the Rings and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings quickly cropped up on Twitter and Reddit as a result.
- TOMORROW! ExplanationDuring the February 2022 Nintendo Direct watchalong, Ina becomes very excited at a Kingdom Hearts collection coming to the Switch and has this reaction when it's announced to be coming the following day. Her unexpectedly enthusiastic tone makes it stand out, and the reaction has since been used for other exciting events that will happen the next day.
- Ina's back ExplanationIn the full Myth offcollab arm wrestling competition there comes a point where Ame is attempting to adjust Ina's 3D model in preparation for the next match, during which there is a brief moment where we get a view of Ina with her back toward the camera. The combination of her backless dress and posture wound up making her butt look bigger than normal, something fanartists have ran with almost immediately, while also serving as an unintentional Call-Back to Ina's GIANT ASS incident.
The phrase not only served as a handy pun for Ina's much awaited return from a break, but it also brought the Takodachi into contact with fans of Reimu Endou from Nijisanji who also featured a similar backless outfit in her concept art. - Myth's Bad End ExplanationNamed after a popular fan animation depicting Ina's violent Face–Heel Turn against the rest of Myth, who are all helpless to stop her save for Ame and her Time Travel powers, though the Adaptational Villainy trend actually predates the upload by a large margin. Because of this, it has since become a running gag of sorts where fans will invoke this meme whenever Ina encounters any bit of perceived inconvenience from her genmates, even citing the incident as the canon event from which Myth's Bad End will happen.
- Grand Foreigner Ina ExplanationIna's illustrator is Kuroboshi Kōhaku, who's known for designing many Foreigner-class Servants in Fate/Grand Order with similar Lovecraftian-cephalopod themes like Abigail Williams and Katsushika Hokusai. This sparked a trend of fanarts depicting Ina as a Foreigner, or sometimes as a "Grand" Foreigner, the strongest known member of the class that's summoned to save the world from an apocalyptic Beast.
Gawr Gura
- a ExplanationGura's first tweet was a simple "a" as Gura was just testing her Twitter. Reactions ranged from confusion to bemusement. This was acknowledged on debut — the video thumbnail has the memetic screaming cowboy from "Big Enough" hidden in the background, and it was the very first sound she made after 30 seconds of silence. Since then, some viewers on other vtuber channels will type a single lowercase "a" in respond to any utterance that sounded like said alphabet.
- Shrimp ExplanationDuring one stream, Gura noticed someone in chat use the word "simp" and asked if he meant to say "shrimp" instead. Shortly afterwards, the fandom decided to use the term to refer to Gura's fans (and occasionally to fans of all five holoEN girls).
- Hydrodynamic ExplanationGura's explanation as to why she has a flat chest: "You cannot be hydrodynamic if you have boing-boing." Hydrodynamic has since become a synonym for flat-chested.
- Missing Bread ExplanationIn a prestream, Gura had told her chat that she had wanted to make a sandwich for her dinner before streaming, but somehow misplaced an entire loaf of bread. Since then a regular question that gets brought up is if she had managed to find the bread before it goes bad.
- Door = Progress ExplanationGura's second Minecraft stream ended with the only notable progress being a door after 3 hours. It's been a joke to tie her progress to when she makes a door. Gura herself invoked this by once spending a significant length of a stream building a massive door on top of a mountain.
- "Gura is a good shark" ExplanationFirst appeared in her original Dark Deception stream, in response to Bierce commenting how she can see into the player character's mind, how it is filled with regrets, which resulted in Gura denying the accusation with this line. Pops up every so often, usually when she isn't being good.
- Lost Shark ExplanationDuring her Maneater stream, Gura infamously got lost during one of the segments, spending quite a lot of time swimming around in circles. This has led to many fans joking that Gura has a poor sense of direction and gets lost easily, which seems to carry over into other games she plays.
- :GuraMM: ExplantionOne of Gura's membership-only emotes, :GuraMM:, is a slightly Super-Deformed closeup of her face. Chat often spams it when Gura does something weird or dumb, with Gura often asking chat why they're making "that face" or otherwise jokingly reacting to it poorly. Sometimes, she'll return the favor by overlaying the emote over her own face, treating the occasion like it's a Staring Contest with her chat.
- Dum ExplanationOne of the pieces of headgear in Among Us is a post-it note with the word "Dum" on it. It's become iconic for Gura ever since she wore it during her streams of the game, often appearing in thumbnails of videos of her being particularly ditzy.
- Gurandma ExplanationDue to her often being mistaken for being underaged, Gura has noted on several occasions that she's indeed an adult and that she's "old". Along with her musical tastes going back nearly a hundred years and broad knowledge of quite dated references, this had led fans to jokingly label her as an actual grandma during these moments.
- Gawr Gulag/Gurag Explanation "GULAG" is a common meme for detaining immigrants in Papers, Please. Once the option to detain immigrants became available during her playthrough, both Gura and the chat adopted her name into it. The chat continued to call it the Gurag even during Calliope's playthroughs.
- Bottom teeth ExplanationThe limitations of Gura's model make her unable to show her lower teeth (though she insists that she has them). Much like Coco's "nose reveal", fans began acting as if Gura doesn't have any bottom teeth, and jokingly hype up any piece of official media depicting her lower row of shark teeth, such as the art for Gura and Matsuri's cover of Sorairo Days, which was drawn by a different artist, as well as Gura's Nendoroid figure, which features an alternate face plate where Gura bares her teeth◊.
- StinkyExplanationA few months in, the word "Stinky" became attached to Gura as a common banter between her and chat, due to chat pointing out she always wears the same outfit and neve changes out of it.
- George Gura ExplanationDuring the 2021 Usada Kensetsu Summer Festival, Gura got to meet Sakura Miko for the first time. Miko tried to greet her with her "Elite English", and referred to her as Jaws. But Gura misheard her and thought she was being called "George". Fans started jokingly calling her George after that, with Ollie calling her "George-senpai" within only a few seconds of the incident.
- Milestone Speedrun ExplanationGura's subscriber count has been noted to rise extremely quickly, becoming the first member of Hololive to reach 1 million and 2 million subscribers in only a few months, and then 3 million in early July, 2021. Because of this, people have joked that she is speedrunning subscriber milestones
- TKB ExplanationDuring the first UMISEA collab, Gura picked Goomba as her character of choice, a decision followed by A-chan realizing what Kuribo's non-Japanese name was and Gura explicitly stating she wants to call him "chikubi"/"tikubi" - the Japanese for "nipple". What started off as a mildly embarassing moment (in a collab that involved Marine, among others). This was shortly followed up by Gura's first collab with Shion in Minecraft, where Gura trying to say the word "chikubi" to Shion accidentally mispoke chikubi as "TKB". Chat pounced on this and promptly spread this to streams of every girl playing Minecraft, with TKB being adopted as the official placeholder word for chikubi. Such as Ame's lava farm being christened "lava TKB" by Gura and her chat, Shiraken Construction adding TKB to the Amelia Statue's ginormous breasts, and even A-chan herself using TKB when talking about Gura's "chikubi" incident
- Oh nyo! ExplanationOne of Gura's signature Uwu moments, it has since evolved into a more general-use (though still mostly Gura-related stuff) meme where the POV character expresses trepidation at one of the idols' goofs and gaffes, but in a cutesy manner.
- Gabriella Giselle / Gabbie from Atlanta ExplanationAn alternate version of Gura with all the shark features removed, appearing in her December 20th 2021 meme showcase stream. Pretty much parallels Ollie's Olivia meme, with chat quite smitten by Gabriella and Gura being offended at the "inferior" version of her receiving more love than the real deal.
- Chapter Master Gura ExplanationA meme that has been popping up with increasing frequency in Warhammer 40,000 fan pages is artworks portraying Gura as the Chapter Master (the senior-most leader) of the Carcharodons, a Space Marine chapter with explicit shark iconography, including their chapter's symbol. This ranges from just having her alongside these Astartes to putting her head on the body of Tyberos, the actual Chapter Master, who is always portrayed in a massive suit of Terminator armor.
- Gura and Mumei are the same personExplanationDue to Gura and Mumei's similar sounding voices, fans began to joke that they were in fact the same person using different accounts, even attributing Gura's absences to be because she was streaming on Mumei's channel
- Gura and Mumei have never been seen in the same roomExplanationFans would point pointed out that for 2 years, Gura and Mumei conveniently never met each other at the various EN off-collabs/IRL meetings, despite the majority of EN girls meeting at that point. Further strengthening the meme that they were the same person
Amelia Watson
- Toxic Gamer Amelia ExplanationDuring her FPS streams, Amelia tends to exhibit behaviors associated with toxic FPS players such as calling out poor performance from her teammates, taking the credit for her team's successes, insulting her opponents, rage quitting, and in one (justified) instance, actually killing one of her own teammates. Thankfully, it's downplayed and Played for Laughs since she doesn't actually get mad nor does she communicate to anyone in-game, keeping the "toxicity" lighthearted and isolated to her stream. However, that doesn't mean she never has moments of genuine saltiness.
- Warm-up Game ExplanationRelated to the above. Any game that doesn't go Amelia's way (usually from getting eliminated early) will be regarded as "just a warm-up game." This gets especially humorous if she says this near the tail end of a stream, implying that the entire stream consisted of warm-up games.
- Secret Ending ExplanationAt the end of her Superliminal stream, Amelia let out a seductive "Ara Ara~" a few moments after she said goodbye to everyone as a bonus for anyone who stuck around till the very end of the stream. Since then it has evolved to fans sticking around for whatever joke Amelia makes at the end, whether it's another "Ara Ara~" (though once with an infamous twist), a Noblewoman's Laugh, her dog barking, or nothing at all.
- Ame hiding her real accentExplanationWhile lore wise Ame is meant to be British, during her debut she quickly dropped her British accent by claiming she was undercover and switched to an American accent. Since then it’s been a joke among fans and talents that Ame hides her real British accent and her American accent being one she puts on to stay undercover.
- Ame is muted ExplanationAme once overslept and was absent for the Overcooked! 2 collab with Gura, Calli, and Kiara. During the soundcheck of that stream, fans took jabs at Ame's absence by saying her mic was muted or that she's too quiet. Whenever there are holoEN collabs, you can expect these jokes to appear in the chat, even if Ame isn't scheduled to appear. Once happened literally in her second collab with Haachama.
- Pre-Recorded Stream Explanation When Amelia was announcing the activation of her membership, she had recorded an advertisement beforehand that she had convincingly used to make it seem like it was a live announcement. She then accidentally replayed the announcement when setting up her game capture window, completely destroying the illusion. Since then, her audience will claim that any technical difficulty was pre-recorded and staged.
- Ground Pounded Your Mom ExplanationDue to her western internet sense of humor, Amelia isn't above making Your Mom jokes at her chatroom's expense. The above quote comes from Super Mario Odyssey where she made the very first "your mom" joke on stream. Fans ran away with that joke, turning Amelia into a Memetic Molester in the same vein as Kakyoin who actively looks for moms to ground pound, and not even resident Team Moms such as Mio and Lamy are safe from her.
- "Ame isn't human, Ame is British/Bri'ish"ExplanationA recurring joke among the Teamates, who often uses the memetic derivative of "British" to dispute Ame's status as Myth's Token Human, with the reasoning being that being "Bri'ish" is mythical in and of itself, with many Holo members adopting this answer too.
- Chibi/Smol Amelia ExplanationSprouting from walfie's fanmade gifs starring the EN girls. While the gifs in general are already a Fountain of Memes, Amelia gets the most attention due to the number of gifs starring her. It started with a frame of her standing innocuously being edited into an image that highlights her as the odd one out among her gen-mates, and then it extrapolated into editing her into random scenes to look like a paranormal sighting. This has interwoven with her Memetic Molester "ground pounder" reputation to turn her into a Memetic Psychopath. walfie's Amelia eventually started showing up◊ in non-walfie◊ fanart◊, often poised behind a mother figure, with the joking implication that she's ready to "ground pound" them. It's since become an Ascended Meme, with Smol Ame becoming a regular side character in Amelia's streams and setting the stage for the other EN girls getting their own Smol avatars.
- #AmeWay ExplanationIf Ame sets her mind to something, she won't stop until she's accomplished it. Between her decisions to stream games that aren't the latest hotness, her efforts to manually land on the Sun Station, and her adherence to her unconventional Elden Ring combat style, her audience is generally confident that she can be successful with her own play styles.
- Amelia and Uto are long-lost sisters Explanation Due to them sharing an artist, people have noted how similar Amelia and independent VTuber Amatsuka Uto look, often referring to them as long-lost sisters. This also leads to jokes about how different the two are, as Uto is a Nice Girl angel while Amelia has her salty, even gremlin-like, moments.
- Amelia is adopted Explanation Related to the meme above, when Amelia and Uto's illustrator, Aoi Nabi, finally made her Vtuber debut, her soft-spoken, gentle nature made fans question if Amelia really is Nabi's "child" as it would appear Uto, who is also soft-spoken and gentle, is the real child. This would eventually become a Discredited Meme as it not only unfairly paints Amelia in a bad light, as it implies that her sweet nature is some sort of falsehood, but Nabi also showed that she can also be rather gremlin-like, culminating in Nabi hosting a Korean swear word class which proved that they're truly Like Mother, Like Daughter.
- Gega Senesis Explanation Amelia has a tendency to trip over her words and admits to having a noticeable stutter, which resulted in her using the term by accident when working at a booth during E3 when trying to refer to the Sega Genesis. Her chat will spam "Gega Senesis" whenever she mentions the console, making her wonder if she actually used the correct name for the console and will sometimes intentionally say it to lean into the joke.
- Amelia the Trendsetter Explanation Due Amelia's creativity almost rivaling Coco's at times, some of her unique stream implementations, such as "vtuber arms" (which Nene is actually the Trope Makers of) and superchat overlays, ended up being adopted by the other EN girls as a trend. This ultimately culminates in Ame's famous "vtuber legs" which not only gets adopted by the EN branch but also the JP and ID branches and even vtubers outside of hololive.
- Ame doko? Explanation Whenever Amelia starts her stream, ends her stream, or is simply taking a break midstream, and she's nowhere to be seen on-screen, her chat devolves into this Madness Mantra. Due to Ame's Gratuitous Spanish, fan have come up the shitty "Japanish" variation "Ame doko estas?"
- Amelia's Seiso Reputation ExplanationIt has been noted that a lot of the Japanese members are less aware of her reputation as a salty Competition Freak due to their status as her Morality Pet and the mutual language barrier, resulting in people joking that they think she's seiso. It was also joked that Coco's Shitpost Reviews kept ruining said reputation, as the majority of the memes featuring Ame usually focused on said salty side.
- Bee Ame Reactions ExplanationAmelia did a watchalong for Bee Movie using her 3D bee model. Throughout she made several reactions that caught on (including sleeping, cringing, and silently eating chips).
- "THE famous Paladins announcer Amelia Watson!" ExplanationAfter the release of her announcer pack for the game Paladins, her fans created a meme out of it as a sort of quasi-inversed Retroactive Recognition, where Ame is more hyped up as "that famous announcer from Paladins" than being an actual talent under Hololive. This usually comes up whenever said FPS is brought up in a conversation, and Kiara seems to be getting in on it too, with her dedicating an entire stream to obtaining and testing the voice pack in Ame's presence, with the meme being referenced in the title.
- Ame scouting new gens while on vacationExplanationDue to six (Indonesia gen 2, Project:Hope, HoloCouncil, HoloX, Indonesia gen 3, and Advent) instances of a new Hololive generation being announced and three of them debuting while Ame coincidentally was on break, fans started joking that it was Ame who scouted the new generation, and a telltale sign for any new generation debuting was to check if Ame was on vacation at the time.
- Ame moves a chair ExplanationDue to her time traveling capabilities, a common joke regarding Ame usually has her creating radically different timelines via butterfly effect by going back to the past and doing something mundane like nudging a chair or drinking water.
- Non Fun-Gullible (Ame) Tokens/NFATs ExplanationA meme that stems from a parody presentation Ame made in which she poked fun at the controversy surrounding NFTs.

- Kanata and Towa's Child ExplanationDue to her lore stating that she is half-demon and half-angel, fans have joked that she is the daughter of Kanata, an angel, and Towa, a devil.
- Coco NTR ExplanationDue to the above meme and the popularity of the ship KanaCoco, fans have also joked that the real reason Coco is leaving Hololive is because Kanata cheated on her with Towa.
- Towa and (Someone else) ExplanationDue to Towa being frequently seen as an angel, fans have pointed out the logic that 2 angels could not produce someone who is half-demon, and have instead joked that she is the daughter of the angel Towa and someone else like Choco or Ayame. This has gained traction after she revealed herself to have a weak grip, leading fans to joke that she's clearly not Kanata's daughter.
- YAGOO's hope ExplanationBecause of her character theme as a Hope Bringer, helped by a decidedly "seiso" backstory and early streams, the fandom heralded her, even before her debut, as the new savior of YAGOO's idol dream where Sora and AZKi failed. The advent of "YabaIRyS" largely ended this meme.
- IRS-chan ExplanationMany fans have pointed out the similarity of her name to the American Internal Revenue Service, or IRS. Many fans have joked that taxes can now be submitted through her via superchats as opposed to the normal filing process. When she asked for suggestions on a fandom name, the chat started spamming #TAXPAYERS. Not to mention that her name is also similar to another IRS.
- Musical Repeat Sign ( ||: ) ExplanationThanks to the countdown preceding her introductory preview using it at the end, as well as her Twitter's first tweet only being said symbol, it has quickly become memetic as symbolizing either her face or an expression she's making.
- IRyS is zero years old ExplanationDuring her debut stream, IRyS stated that she is as old "as long as hope has been in your heart". Cue jokes about her being zero years old
- Mom of the Year ExplanationHer Mother Simulation stream quickly gained traction for showing that, no, IRyS wouldn't make for a great and caring mother, what with yeeting the baby left and right and dumping him in the kitchen sink.
- Ceiling Fan Appreciation Association ExplanationIRyS developed a phobia of ceiling fans after watching too much Final Destination, and henceforth, she despised ceiling fans as obsolete, outdated and dangerous. In response, a society was made to question her on her hatred and animus towards Ceiling Fans
- "Hope has descended" ExplanationA play on the intro of her character bio due to her curious tendency to accidentally fall to her death in Minecraft, either off of things or into holes in the ground.
- "Hope has descended and is coming for you" ExplanationA variant on her catchphrase she used to threaten Ollie before chasing her through the EN Minecraft server, which quickly caught on as a phrase to describe how she can be surprisingly scary at times. Fans have joked that these moments are her demon half kicking in.
- 116 ExplanationA meme spawned from IRyS' stream of The Radio Station, which also had a heart rate monitor displayed on the screen. Near the end of the stream, IRyS had to excuse herself and go to an "idol meeting", while the heart rate tracker is still attached to her, resulting in the monitor skyrocketing to 116 BPM while she's taking care of businesses, much to the chat's delight. This went on to becoming one of IRyS' more popular chat memes, usually spammed whenever she has to go to the bathroom (or even gets near one in a videogame), in the same vein as the blue wave for other members. Later gets tied to Bae as well when she kept her heart monitor on during an idol meeting in her Resident Evil Village stream and also ended up hitting 116.
- MugRyS ExplanationA piece of merchandise she released for her 2022 birthday celebration, which became infamous as the design made it dangerous to use for its intended purpose as a coffee mug. It's still brought up from time to time.
- TofuExplanationAfter IRyS unveiled her 2.0 model which featured her chest having much greater jiggle physics, IRyS eventually got annoyed by her chat always bringing it up and would bring out a PNG of a plate of tofu to hide it. In response her chat memed about looking at the tofu, which eventually led IRyS's chest to be dubbed her "tofu", or rather tofu to be used interchangeably with boobs in IRyS's streams. IRyS herself eventually picks up the term, even naming her mousepad merch "the Tofu mousepad".
- MetamorphoRySExplanation IRyS cites Oresuki as the inspiration for her schoolgirl outfit. The black uniform with twin braids and Nerd Glasses ended up making her look very much like Saki Yoshida, protagonist of the infamous R-18 doujin Emergence by ShindoL instead, as the fandom was very quick to point out. Kronii would be inclined to agree as well, and even warned her of this exact reaction from her fanbase. IRyS had seriously never even heard of the story before.
Tsukumo Sana
- Space Cheeto/Forbidden Gummy Worm ExplanationTwo terms used to describe Yatagarasu. The latter was coined by Gura's chat to describe it after she expressed an interest on "chewing" on it while the former was adopted by Sana's audience when she asked them what they initially thought it was.
- Zodiac Gangs ExplanationWith her focus on astrology, Sana effectively divided her audience in twelve, depending on their sign, each proudly proclaiming their affiliation anytime something related to them appear on stream (like a crab for Cancer Gang for example). With each Holoscope attributing them one item, their "inventory" and affiliations are evergrowing (Scorpio Gang being also "Baguette Gang", "Chainsaw Gang", etc.)
- Sana... is eternal.ExplanationFrom the "Smol Adventures" short, the fact that Sana delivered such an epic line in the form of a space worm has not gone unnoticed. With her departure, fans mean it in a different way, too.
Ceres Fauna
- uuuuu ExplanationFauna's Verbal Tic. Wasn't considered a meme until people in her chat started pointing it out, to where it soon became a membership emote.
- Bald Fauna ExplanationOne common assumption among Saplings is that Fauna's hair is like tree leaves and, as such, falls off during colder seasons - even though Fauna herself later disproved it, saying her hair is actual hair. Nevertheless, it got elevated to proper meme status during her Mario Kart 8 collab with Gura, with one of the viewers joining with the bald Fauna Mii. Then, a month later, Fauna streamed Hitman 2...
- Cowkini Fauna/Cowfauna Explanation In an August 7 tweet Fauna complained about adding too much macha to her tea, making it in her own words "taste like grass". She then made light of it by following up with a variation of her Verbal Tic followed by a cow emoji. Fan artists immedieatly ran with this and began drawing pictures of Fauna wearing a cow print bikini, something Fauna herself was planning on.
- Saplingposting/Mommy Explanation "Saplingposting" refers to portraying saplings, both jokingly or unironically as extremely dependent on Fauna and suffering from mental breakdowns/depression the moment she stops streaming, often accompanied by a chibi picture of Fauna crying from her membership subcription while the sapling calls out for their "mommy". The fans even made a site to track how long they went without Fauna streaming. Became an Ascended Meme in August 2022 after Fauna posted this YouTube Short.
- MILF Explanation"Man, I Love Fauna". Fauna created this as one of her numerous hat art assets for her streams, which then became official merch during her 2-year celebration.
- "I miss Fauna."ExplanationFauna's fanbase (Saplings) tend to joke about missing Fauna heavily when she isn't streaming. No matter if her stream just ended, or she was on break, her viewers will often comment how much they miss her.
- Nerd FaunaExplanationHer casual outfit came with a pair of large glasses that gave her the look of a stereotypical nerd, which sparked a trend of related fanart and her audience spamming the nerd emoji in chat, the latter being typically done when Fauna suddenly veers off into a tangent about educational or highly technical subjects mid-stream.
Ouro Kronii
- Ceiling Fan/Kroniicopter ExplanationKronii's funky-shaped headdress was noted to look a lot like a big fan or a helicopter's rotor. That it came straight from the horse's mouth further fans the flames. Putting this and IRyS's ceiling fan phobia together and a new meme was born. In her official Live2D and associated pieces of fanart, the headdress also spins accordingly. In fan-made animations, Kroniicopter is also frequently accompanied by the song Helikopter by Romani-Bosnian singer Fazlija playing in the background.
- Kronii is a Saberface ExplanationKronii's artist is Wada Arco of Fate Series fame. As many fans were quick to point out immediately after her announcement, Kronii's basic facial design happens to match that of series mainstay Saber/Arthur Pendragon. There's In-Universe acknowledgement of all the Saber variants who show up as Servants across the franchise because they all have a "Saberface", and they know it, and the Hololive fanbase knows that Kronii is one as well. Some might say "Neroface" instead to acknowledge the saberface Wada Arco made, Nero Claudius. During their Diablo II crossover, Kiara called Kronii this, making it border on Ascended Meme.
- Kronii vs. Amelia ExplanationKronii and Amelia's first interactions on Twitter implied a rather rocky relationship, with Amelia stating that she was hiding from Kronii who then replied that she wanted a word with Amelia in an ominous tone. Because of this and their association with time in different ways, fanartists began pitting the two of them against each other, or otherwise depicting Kronii as being less than amused with Ame's time-traveling shenanigans.
- Looking respectfully ExplanationAn euphemism for Male Gaze, initially used by Kronii during her pre-debut Twitter banter with Calli.
- Flower ExplanationBaelz had a Minecraft stream that ended up turning into a collab with Kronii and Mumei joining in. At the end of it when Bae noticed she needed to add a flower, Mumei and Kronii started saying "flower" to each other multiple times. Kronii's deadpan delivery of the word sent Mumei into laughing fits, and she kept saying it to keep making her laugh. Fans of course caught on and started doing chains of just saying "flower"
- The Ribbon ExplanationWhen Kronii caught on about her chat's Male Gaze towards her chest, she insisted they were looking at her ribbon. Ever since then, fans would substitute the word "ribbon" whenever talking about her chest.
- Maid outfit when? ExplanationWhile playing Minecraft, Kronii decided to just start organizing any chest she could find just out of boredom, starting with Amelia's house. The chat started asking this because she was basically cleaning up the house. In response, Kronii admitted that she doesn't put this much interest in housekeeping in real life.
- Cortana ExplanationKronii returned from a week-long break with a new PC... only to discover all of the wonders of Windows 11 right as she was streaming Blue Archive, mainly update prompts and Cortana. The former was forcing Kronii's PC to restart every now and then, the latter was taking over the stream audio with the line "Hi, I'm Cortana!" overlapping itself several times in a few seconds. The situation got even worse during the superchat reading the following week, causing Kronii to freak out even more than usual and eventually resort to manual updates. That incident, as well as Cortana's ability to hijack the Warden of Time's lifestream, was picked up not only by the chat, but Kiara during the TTRPG as well.
- "Who are the Patriots?" ExplanationMany fans noted that the refrain from "Daydream" sounded a lot like "La-li-lu-le-lo", the codename for the Patriots from Metal Gear.
- GWAK! ExplanationKronii, to put it bluntly, cannot handle jumpscares at all. The distinctive noise she makes when startled is considered by the Kronies to be both hilarious and adorable.
- "They were protecting the boys!" ExplanationA controversy arose around Kronii after a Dead by Daylight collab between hololive EN and TEMPUS members lead to conflict around whether or not Kronii should collab with male members. After her "Psychiatry Help" collab with Vesper, which ended with the librarian emotionally drained, many jokingly state that the Kronies who were against Kronii collabing with the TEMPUS members were actually trying to protect the TEMPUS members (especially Vesper) from Kronii all along. That being said, her chemistry with them otherwise has not gone unnoticed, leading to...
- TEMPUS's fifth memberExplanationIn conjunction with the above, it's been noted that Kronii tends to cut loose around TEMPUS and generally act more unhinged and vulgar with them than with the girls, leading some to joke that she's their honorary fifth member. The hilarity only further increased when she was called in to replace Axel during a group collab hosted by Altare and promptly won the Wheel of Fortune knockoff for him. To top it off, it also makes for a perfect pun given the Latin word "tempus" means "time."
- SpidersExplanationKronii is scared half to death of spiders, so after she encountered one on the ceiling during one of her streams and was thrown into a panic, fans took her fear of spiders to be a Running Gag, including being scared by Spider-Man and even spider Bae.
- 95% legsExplanationA meme originating from Gura, who used the term to poke fun at Kronii's intense Leg Focus. This has since become a common chat meme, usually invoked in the comments whenever her full model is shown on-stream.
- The CreatureExplanation Kronii's best friend, Sally, ended up giving birth to a baby boy, with Kronii as an honorary aunt. When Kronii first talked about the baby after being born, Kronii would refer to said baby as being a "fascinating creature" and as well as using descriptions more befitting a lab experiment. Her chat would then take it upon themselves to refer to the baby as "the creature" and similarly utilizing bizarre terminology to mimick Kronii's initial description, despite Kronii's later protests to address the baby respectfully.
- But why?!ExplanationDuring Kronii's infamous NPC stream in March 2024, one of the six total phrases she was constantly repeating in response to superchats — among generic Character Catchphrases and vaguely flirty memes — was simply "But why?" With the frequency she would be constantly repeating this phrase for a full hour, it ended up buried in the minds of viewers who tuned in, many getting the sense that it was Kronii reacting to her own Sanity Slippage during the whole thing.
Nanashi Mumei
- Civilization ExplanationAs the Anthropomorphic Personification of Civilization, the fanbase joked that Mumei absolutely has to do a stream of the series by that name. She finally addressed the question and while she didn't give a definite answer one way or the other for now, she did mention that getting permission was "difficult". It wouldn't be until much later, in April 2023 to be specific, that she'd finally get the permissions to make this an Ascended Meme by streaming Civilization V.
- Kyawatori ExplanationCalliope replies to Mumei's first tweet by introducing herself and giving Mumei the nickname "Kyawatori". Kiara, needless to say, was not amused.
- I forgor 💀 ExplanationMumei admitted she doesn't have the greatest memory (despite, you know, being the keeper of all human knowledge), leading her to be linked with this existing meme. The aversion of it makes chat boom with "She rember". This sometimes leads to mashups with the Earth, Wind & Fire song "September" (the opening lyric of which is "Do you remember").
- VExplanationWhenever Mumei steps away from her computer in real life, she will often move her model down, leaving the top of her head visible, along with the two feathers adorned there. Due to the positioning of the feathers making a V-shape, her chat will start posting "V" whenever Mumei does this.
- When the Mumei Finger Spins in September ExplanationMeiMei Clips, a Youtube channel that specializes in clipping segments from Mumei's streams, is known for using an outro of a Mumei version of Rikka Takanashi's finger spin set to a mashup of the Macross Delta song "Rune Ga Pikatto Hikattara" and Earth, Wind & Fire's "September" (two songs which themselves are frequently mashed up with another due to how similar they sound). This outro has become popular among not just Mumei's fanbase, but to the rest of Hololive, and on Youtube one can find edits of the same gif featuring other Hololive members and set to the same song.
- Gura is MumeiExplanationSee Gura's folder for more information
- Kronii and the ice cream truckExplanation Mumei's first version of her cover of Dan Dan was removed due to a few Funny Background Events that made light of real-life disasters, such as the Black Plague and the Hindenburg. However, there's also a shot of Kronii chasing after an ice cream truck, which some speculate to be the real reason it was removed.
- Tickets to Mumei's free karaoke ExplanationSuperchats during karaoke streams would often claim to be "paying for tickets", which Mumei got angry with because karaoke streams are free entertainment (note that the JP branch does have concerts that require a paid ticket). The fans being what they are, this led to continually more creative ways of "buying a ticket", with Friend often being made out to be a scalper.
- Rap Towl ExplanationWhen Mumei gets flustered to the point of Angrish, she speaks so fast people would think she was trying to compete against resident rap god Calliope Mori. Clips of her raps have been placed next to Eminem's "Rap God" show how beat for beat it is.
- Anatomy EnjoyerExplanationAfter Mumei claimed she was "anatomy enjoyer" as a more indirect way of saying she enjoyed looking at scantily clad girls, fans took this and used this as a more cultured way to describe enjoying lewds.
- Moomin' ExplanationA catch-all term similar to Kiara's "Quaso" that was derived from "Moom", the Affectionate Nickname that was given to Mumei by Gura and subsequently adopted by the Hoomans. Generally, anything Mumei does that's at least slightly silly or cute can be labeled as "Moomin'", which the chat may participate in when prompted by her.
- Mumei is a Horse GirlExplanationAfter initial speculations by superchats that Mumei was a "horse girl"note a horse enthusiast, which was met by Mumei's adamant denial, this would be continuously brought up to Mumei as her version of "gaslighting a Holo girl into believing they are something else". Quite often Mumei's attempts at quelling these theories only end up digging herself deeper by inadvertently providing more evidence for chat to use.
Hakos Baelz
- Hamster/HakotaroExplanationFans began calling Bae a hamster rather than a rat, which circulated to the JP girls who added the nickname "Hakotaro" for her, based on Hamtaro.
- Zoomer Bae/Bae is actually 12ExplanationBae's frequent Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure for many movies, shows, and games have led fans to declare her a zoomer (Generation Z) and concluding she is actually 12 years old. Said meme is often accompanied by a slightly smudged image of her smiling, in a similar vein to Pekora's "Ogey" face, most commonly as part of fan clip thumbnails.
- VTuber Skaven ExplanationA meme spawned from the subsection of viewers who are also avid Warhammer fans due to Baelz being the Anthropomorphic Personification of Chaos with rat Animal Motifs. Cue the endless amount of Great Horned Rat jokes. Baelz herself got in on the joke in February 2022, where she used a piece of fanart as the thumbnail for an Apex Legends stream depicting her taking aim with a Skaven Warplock Jezzail, while a Doomwheel is rolling around in the background.
- "What is a fetish?" ExplanationWell after Bae had already been pushed past her breaking point by NEEDY STREAMER OVERLOAD, she was asked what her fetish was. She typed out a bunch of responses, one of which was long enough to become a copypasta all by itself.Bae: What is a fetish? If you really think about it, the negative connotation of fetishes just doesn't make sense. Don't you agree? I think if you just have your preferences you can have your own preferences and that's completely fine but like asking for someone else's fetishes just feels like you're prying into something but it shouldn't really feel that way??????????
- "Who's Baelz?"ExplanationBae is near-universally called anything other than "Bae" with almost no one referring to her by her full name of Baelz (aside from Kiara). This led to a hilarious moment when Calli actually did call her by her full name, prompting Bae to humorously ask "Baelz? Who's Baelz?" in a confused tone, as if no longer recognizing her own name, followed up by Calli's exasperated "Isn't that your fucking name, rat?". Fans took with this and ran responding to any instance where "Baelz" gets said with the same phrase "Who's Baelz?", with Bae joining in by replying she doesn't know. This later got taken to ridiculous levels when Bae began acting like "Baelz" was a separate person entirely, referring to Baelz in third-person and acting like she doesn't know anything about this mysterious Baelz.
- "Every game is a horror game"ExplanationDue to Bae's tendency to get overly scared by horror games and sometimes even getting scared by non-horror games, her chat jokes that every game is a horror game for her
- #sleepwellBaeExplanationDue to living in Australia and attempting to cater to NA timezones, Bae eventually put her standard stream time at 10am JST. This meant she tended to stream immediately after waking up, which left a high risk of oversleeping and being late for her scheduled stream. After this became a common occurrence (with a few occasions of her oversleeping by an hour or more), her chat would assume that any instance of her being late was due to her oversleeping again.
- DogezaExplanationJapanese for "bow", which Bae either promises or chat asks for from Bae whenever she oversleeps, with her "owing (X number of) dogezas" depending on how much she overslept by
- "Unleash the puns"ExplanationCoinciding with Ina going on extended break, Bae's chat started sending superchats containing puns. Eventually this would align with Bae being late to a stream, so it became tradition for Bae to get bombarded with puns until she finally shows up, with her punishment being to read out these pun superchats to make up for her being late
- Hololive JP member/"English perms lost"ExplanationDue to Bae's proficiency in Japanese and her occasional slip-ups that occur when speaking English despite being fluent, chat made jokes that she is actually a member of Hololive JP (in a reverse of the Miko being Hololive EN joke). Further enforced by Bae sometimes half-jokingly agreeing that her English skills have dropped and that she might be the worst at English in EN, while JP talents have even offered for her to join JP. This reached a fever pitch in October 2023, where Bae revealed that she's in talks to move to Japan sometime in 2024, which will be taking the "Bae is HoloJP" meme to a whole new literal level.
- "[INSERT WORD] Perms lost"ExplanationThis later expanded to various other topics, so that whenever Bae makes a mistake in regards to a certain topic, chat will say Bae's perms for that item have been lost too
- "Skip ad"Explanation Bae's tendency to shill her merch, especially her birthday merch, including announcements every stream while the merch was available for purchase, led her chat to joke that these were YouTube ads and type out "Skip ad" in response along with comments like "my ad blocker isn't working"
- PistachioExplanationOne particular superchat commented that the front part of Bae's bangs with strands of black and white hair looked like a pistachio. This led chat to use pistachio in reference to this part of her hair, which was eventually adopted by Bae herself.
- OnionExplanationOn a similar note, her third / "casual" outfit has the pistachio bangs tied up, where chat were quick to notice resembled an onion. Bae took to referring to it as this soon after
- "Professional streamer"ExplanationWhenever Bae makes a mistake related to streaming, such as: being muted, using the wrong transition, or messing up her model, this will lead her chat and Bae to call herself a "professional streamer".
- Password: 1111ExplanationDuring an offcollab with Fauna and Mumei during their first stay in Japan, where the girls got drunk while watching a New Year stream. At one point Bae accidentally logged out of the Vtuber model app, where she logged back in with the app's interface showed onstream, displaying her password as "1111". This led everyone to joke about the password being leaked and that all of Bae's passwords or every Vtuber app password was "1111"
- From Persona 5 streams:
- Purple BaeExplanationBae's tendency to be very greedy with collecting money, led her to be compared with one of the game's Arc Villains, Kaneshiro, with Shadow Kaneshiro having purple skin. This led chat to dub Bae as "Purple Bae" every time she starts showing gold fever.
- Ann neglectExplanationBae proceeded to avoid/ignore almost every opportunity presented to spend time with Ann, leading her to have the lowest relationship stats out of all the Confidants (Bae never got the option to even date Ann). This led chat to jokingly post replies such as "Poor Ann", "what did Ann do to you?", "Ann deserves better" whenever Bae ignores Ann for someone else.
- "The Gift of sight!"ExplanationOne stream after Bae had received an avalanche of membership gifting, she said the Brats who received the membership had now been blessed "with the gift of sight". Subsequent streams have Bae and chat continuing the meme membership gifts as the gift of sight.
- Genital JoustingExplanationBae plays a game called "Genital Jousting", a game about well... a sentient genital who live life exactly how every single person lived, whenever anyone mentioned this depraved game, fans are being reminded of that one vtuber who plays this game live on YouTube without any consequence whatsoever.
- "She's a MESS"ExplanationAfter Bae released her first EP, one of the songs "MESS", which described Bae's own clumsy daily routine, one line of the lyrics had her going "I'm a mess". This line has subsequently been used by Bae and her chat to describe Bae whenever she becomes tangled and mixed-up onstream or during her day
- JDON my soul!ExplanationBae hosted a multilingual game of telephone with English, Indonesian, and Japanese members. The last sentence she gave was full of Aussie slang, ending with the phrase "make a Macca's run soon, my shout!". This got corrupted into "maka jdon suru, my soul!" by the end, with Kaela and Kobo both demanding to know what exactly "jdon" meant. Bae's protests that "jdon" isn't a real word went ignored, especially when Kaela claimed she looked it up and found that it was a Hebrew name meaning "God has listened" (Jadon). Thus the phrase "JDON my soul" would mean "God has listened to my soul", she argued... which then took off on Twitter, much to Bae's despair.
- JDON my soul poseExplanationDuring Holofest 2024 "Capture the Moment", Bae's solo performance had her doing a pose where she descended to the floor, finishing in a kneeling position, with her arms outstretched to the side, and her head looking upwards. One fan quickly attached the "JDON my soul" caption to a screenshot, where this quickly became established as the official "JDON my soul" pose. Bae herself got wind of this and tweeted the screenshot of her pose with the hashtag #Jdonmysoul, daring people to caption it. Among the many replies, Bae was shocked when the official Holo EN Twitter account would tweet back with their version.
Generation 3 -Advent-
Shiori Novella
- I can fix her/Never mind she's perfect the way she is/Please fix me/She can break meExplanationGoing off her design alone, the audience expected her to be a brooding goth girl — the kind who'd need a Living Emotional Crutch. When Shiori had her proper debut, she defied expectations completely by being an Adorkable streamer with the occasional morbid interest, leading to the inversion of the impression.
- Shiorium deficiencyExplanationAn offshoot of Nakirium (related to Ayame). Became particularly prevalent when, barely a couple of weeks after her debut, Shiori left on a trip with her family, leaving her unable to stream. Fans who already couldn't get enough of her content were thus left stranded, without much of an archive to binge to get their Shiorium fix. Now an Ascended Meme.
- She's archiving the answersExplanationDuring Advent's HoloTalk with Kiara, Shiori scored no points on the hololive quiz (whether as a result of her being tired, busy, shy, not specifically knowledgeable about hololive in-jokes, or simply unable to beat FUWAMOCO to the buzzer, the world may never know). The irony of her lore as an archiver of knowledge, as well as the fact that she just stands there in complete silence throughout most of the segment, struck some people as funny, leading to the theory that she is busy recording everyone else's answers for posterity in her tome.
- Shiori's flashlight eyesExplanationA popular depiction of her luminescent golden eyes in fan works, where Shiori is often drawn with nightvision, or with eyes that actually emit visible beams in darkness like floodlights.
- Shiori is the best Shiori clipperExplanationJokes stemming from Shiori's tendency to upload stream highlights with a lot of editing added in.
- Shiori, what are you talking about? ExplanationShiori has a tendency to go off-rails whenever she she has a topic in mind, then suddenly veers off-topic and ends up talking about something else. And then that topic gets changed to something else. Even Calli gets frazzled by Shiori's train of thought that has nothing to do with what they're talking about, and the Novelites even sympathizes with Calli.
- Shiori's intrusive thoughtsExplanationSimilarly to the above, Shiori is infamous for always voicing everything that comes to her mind, even if it's lewd or dark. Especially if it's lewd or dark. Due to this, she is seen as the embodiment of "letting your intrusive thoughts win".
- Hentai protagonist ShioriExplanationOne of Shiori's alternate hairstyles includes her bangs covering both her eyes as a parody of the "emo haircut". In practice, she looks like the featureless male protagonist of a stereotypical hentai series.
Koseki Bijou
- Moai emoji (🗿)ExplanationDue to the diamond emoji already being claimed by IRyS as her oshi mark, Bijou instead settled for, of all things, a Moai head as hers. Given the typical connotations of the emoji, the fandom had a field day with memeing the hell out of her oshi mark in artworks before she even made her official debut. This ended up becoming an Ascended Meme when Bijou heavily incorporated the Moai into her content and lore.
- ROCK AND STONE!ExplanationBijou's "rock" theme quickly led to an overlap with Deep Rock Galactic memes, causing viewers to start spamming "Rock and Stone" voicelines in her chat.
- Vine BoomExplanationAnother meme related to her rock theming, where the Vine "thud" or "boom" sound effect is often inserted into her clips as a form of Gag Dub. This is due to her official use of the Moai emoji, as well as intentional references to Dwayne Johnson and his The Rock eyebrow raise meme, both of which are heavily associated with said sound effect.
- Bijou the Butt Spider-ManExplanationAfter Bijou wonders if Spider-Man can shoot web from his butt, this led the other girls to be dub her "the Butt Spider-Man". Fan-artists took this and ran, producing a slew of fanart and animations depicting Bijou as Spider-Man but shooting web from her butt
- J/G swappingExplanationInitially starting off as chat correcting Bijou over her mispronouncing certain G sounds in words with a J sound, with one of the earliest examples being Ganondorf from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom that Bijou pronounced as "Janondrof", this would escalate into chat gaslighting Bijou over her uncertainty by swapping out Gs and Js. Bijou herself would eventually embrace this as her meme, where she began intentionally pronouncing G words with a J sound like "Gottem" as "Jottem", sometimes even when it isn't a G, like saying "Horse" as "Jorse"
- :D ExplanationBijou's smiling/laughing expression with her eyes wide open has led to a lot of jokes and memes, with fans generally typing in the comments whenever the expression occurs.
- Deez Nuts MasterExplanationAfter Biboo showed an unusual savviness when it came to "deez nuts" jokes, chat would endlessly attempt to hit her with a deez nuts joke that she falls for (with little success). Biboo would explain that she studied the art of "deez nuts" in preparation for joining Hololive, making her an impenetratable Master of Deez Nuts. Three months of nonstop attempts later, chat finally managed to draw blood from a stone with an unusually elaborate setup.
- Who's Bijou?/Mandela EffectExplanationImmediately after debut, Bijou would become primarily known by the nickname "Biboo", which all of Advent refer to her as. This would lead the name "Bijou" to get used more and more sparingly, to the point where it came close to supplanting her original name. Chat would naturally take this and spin this into a meme, by asking "Who's Bijou?" whenever her real name is brought up, in a similar vein to Bae and the "Who's Baelz?" meme. It eventually got to the point where even Bijou herself was unable to convince chat that her name was was origin, with chat acting like her name being Bijou was a strange Mandela Effect, where eventually she gave up and went along with the joke that Bijou was actually a different person to her. Taken even further during April Fools of 2024, where she changed her Twitter name to "Koseki Biboo", but due to the Twitter feature this led her unable to change her name back and led her to accept this as her real name.
- Baby BibooExplanationThe first EN girl to join the ranks of Holo girls who receive "baby allegations" aside from occasionally Gura. While denying these allegations for ages, Biboo's kimono outfit featured a hat that looked like a baby's bonnet along with a pacifier, finally making her baby status canon
- TikTok Zoomer BibooExplanationUnlike Bae, who got the "zoomer" label for her constant Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure, Bijou has been declared a zoomer as a result of her extensive knowledge of modern memes and Tiktok trends, like the famous(ly cringey) "Sticking out your gyatt for the rizzler" song. The fact that she even looks and sounds like a young child also helps.
- "Sticking out your gyatt for Nerizzler!"ExplanationOne such example of her zoomer-ness, is the Advent-themed parody of the popular Tiktok song Sticking Out Your Gyat for the Rizzler that Bijou sung at the start of her game-clearing stream of Lies of P in mid-November 2023. Like its inspiration, the clip of her singing it quickly became the subject of fan remixes and memes due to its catchiness, much to the dismay of many viewers (and Bijou's own amusement).
- The REAL reason for Bijou's imprisonment. ExplanationThe sheer catchiness of Bijou's parody, the ensuing sanity damage it did to her fans and colleagues, and her embracing its memetic status caused many fans to speculate that spreading cringe and infectious memes was the real reason for her in-story imprisonment.
- Biboo Tax ExplanationA line taken from the above song, with the meaning explained as the amount of brainrot a listener receives for being exposed to her memes, where the listener gets "Biboo Taxed".
- SquidwardExplanationWith the reveal of Advent's Kimono outfit silhouettes, fans noticed Biboo's silhouette having tentacles-like features at the ends of her feet, leading fans to call her Squidward, which even her artist mama got in on
- Window wipersExplanationBijou has a particular squeaky laugh that has often been compared to the sound of window wiping, so fansubbers and clippers will often include images or overlays of windows being wiped whenever she's laughing particularly hard.
- Pull My Biboo TriggerExplanationBijou's love for the song "Devil Trigger" in Devil May Cry 5 resulted in a fan sending her an Advent-themed parody of the song in a superchat, which she read. This ended up getting set to music by the clipper Ludokano and achieved similar popularity as the "sticking out your gyatt for Nerizzler" parody, above.
- CLINK CLINK CLINK CLINK ExplanationWhen fans pointed out that Bijou's gem-encrusted feet would make noise every time she took a step, they had a field day editing the appropriate sound to her running in Advent's debut video. While Bijou initially was taken back by the meme and found it embarrassing, she later embraced it and started adding or requested to add the "clink clink" sound effect into videos too
- Ryouri suruExplanationWhile playing Shashingo: Learn Japanese with Photography, one word that Bijou encountered that she had particular difficulty in pronouncing, being Ryouri surunote translating to "cooking". Bijou would spend an incredibly long time struggling to pronounce the word, to the amusement of those watching. Since then, fans have tried to get her to pronounce the word by sending in superchats with the word or even changing their naming to the word to watch her struggle in saying it correctly.
Nerissa Ravencroft
- Demon of SoupExplanationDuring Advent's debut video, Nerissa's title was partially obscured by her model, this led at least one viewer misreading it as her being the "Demon of Soup." This soon caught on and was even acknowledged by Nerissa herself.
- No-Pan Nee-san/No Panty NerissaExplanationWhen Nerissa mentioned her dislike of underwear in debut, the nickname caught on.
- Ask NerissaExplanationThe default response from any Adventrix (sans the Jailbirds) whenever they make a lewd joke or a meme that flies over the head of the other Advent members. Owing to her knowledge of older memes and sexy matters, she is generally seen as an authority on them.
- Nerissa lays eggsExplanationThe inevitable speculation on whether a bird Hololive girl can lay eggs. Nerissa in particular finds herself fighting this allegation a lot, insists that she doesn't lay eggs, however her fans and other talents (especially Bijou) persistently convinced and wanting her to lay an egg someday.
- The Ravencroft family packageExplanationThe well-received guest appearances by Nerissa's sisters and the much-anticipated debut of Nerissa's mother had fans joking that by hiring Nerissa, Hololive got the rest of her family as bonus talent, or that her channel actually belongs to the entire Ravencroft dynasty as a whole instead. Fans even ask for her father and brother to cameo even though the chances are minuscule.
- "Aradia is my oshi!"ExplanationBoth of Nerissa's older sisters are immensely popular among the Jailbirds, but Aradia often takes the top spot due to her frequent appearance and mischievous personality. This prompted many Jailbirds to jokingly proclaim Aradia to be their true oshi among the Ravencroft dynasty, much to Nerissa's dismay.
- Sanest KFP memberExplanationNerissa was quick to reveal she was an Ascended Fangirl with her oshi being Kiara, and is not shy about expressing her love and affection towards Kiara. Both Nerissa's Jailbirds and Kiara's KFP chat like up dub Nerissa the "Sanest KFP member" after the "sanest X fan meme"
FUWAMOCO
- Cerberus of HololiveExplanationThe fact that Fuwawa and Mococo are stated to be demonic dogs who are also gatekeepers has resulted in fans drawing plenty of parallels between them and Cerberus, but in addition, fans have also compared their doglike natures to Korone and have envisioned her as being the third head of Cerberus, resulting in an abundance of fan art containing the three.
- VIOLENCEExplanationThe twins saying "Violence" in sync with a gravely voice during a playthrough of The Typing of the Dead: Overkill whenever the in-game narrator exclaimed the term quickly caught fans' attention. The latter quickly adopted it to illustrate the twins' percieved gap moe, often with "The Only Thing They Fear is You" playing in the background.
- EXTREME VIOLENCE!ExplanationAn extension of the above, based on the twins reacting the same way when the narrator says "extreme violence". Reserved for more the twins' "more chaotic and destructive moments".
- EXTREME ANGRY VIOLENCE!ExplanationA request to be able to touch Fuwawa's tail if Mococo wouldn't allow her's to be touched unlocked an even higher level of violence from the latter!
- Bau Bau!ExplanationThe Japanese onomatopoiea for barking that the twins use as a Verbal Tic, as opposed to Korone's "wan". Naturally, it's become a common meme amongst the Ruffians due to how cute it sounds with their voices.
- Fuwawa is not realExplanationDue to Mococo being the main gamer among the two and Fuwawa primarily backseating, to the point where they share one character in Minecraft, this gave the air of Fuwawa and Mococo's conversations being a single in-game character conversing with herself, not helped by their similar voices. This was poked fun at by their fellow Advent members during their first Minecraft collab where they gaslit Mococo by acting like Fuwawa wasn't there, with the Ruffians promptly following suit, much to Fuwawa's dismay. Popular variants usually depict Fuwawa as an alter ego or imaginary friend of Mococo's that goes away when she takes her medicine, Mococo playing both roles by pre-recording dialogue, or as a ghost of the real Fuwawa that her sister still clings onto out of denial or a sense of perceived guilt. An alternate version also cropped up after Fuwawa decided to host a solo Phasmophobia stream without Mococo backseating her, where the roles are reversed. After some time though, the meme has fallen out of favor with Ruffians due to being considered too dark and depressing, and any attempts to invoke this meme again will be met with disapproval and annoyance.
- "Today! Today! Not tomorrow, today!"ExplanationMococo's version of Ina's Tomorrow meme (see her section above), where her excitedly chanting "Today!" got memed as a popular reaction.
- MococœExplanationMococo's accent causes her to add an "-eh" sound to certain words, particularly those ending in a vowel sound. Subtitlers caught onto this, and would often transcribe her as saying things such as "Whæt?", "Hæh?", and "Nœ!"
- NattoExplanationMococo can't stand natto (fermented soy beans), unlike her sister who regularly eats it. It's a running gag in fandom to have Fuwawa chase Mococo with a giant bowl of natto.
- Mococo Belly Button for RentExplanationMococo's midriff-baring outfit leaves her belly button exposed, leading to others expressing the desire to touch it. Fuwawa went as far as to offer putting Mococo’s belly button for rent and auctioning it off, while Nerissa in particular vowed to stick her finger in it. Come Nerissa’s birthday, Fuwamoco gifted her a coupon granting her one free touch of either Fuwamoco, with Nerissa declaring she would use it to touch Mococo's belly button.
- Mococo's ThoughtsExplanationMococo is often directly positioned in front of the chat, and the chat has noticed this. It's not unusual for the chat to say something random, provocative, or yabai and capturing the image to express Mococo's inner thoughts to the world.
- Fuwawa's BAU BAUSExplanationWith the new year 2024 came the reveal of Advent's New Year kimono outfits. Fuwawa's outfit in particular received a lot of attention thanks to the emphasis on her sideboob, which she happily showcased on stream. Needless to say, a lot of Ruffians were very pleased.
- FuwaMoco Doro/Doro virusExplanationA snowclone of the "Doro" meme from Goddess of Victory: NIKKE featuring Fuwawa and Mococo being drawn in the same quadrupedal chibi form as Dorothy's fan-made version. This quickly gained traction on Reddit and other social media platforms and became prime material for fanart and memes, and even spawned its own variant featuring Korone and other Holomems drawn in the same art style.
- "Foreigners like to manipulate and post images like this."ExplanationA memetic phrase originating from VTuber message boards, used to refer to (and now generally used to caption) heavily distorted images of Mococo and Fuwawa's (mostly the former's) face, sometimes also subtitled with Mococo's aforementioned Verbal Tic. While warped edits of Holomems' faces are far from new, (most infamously Pekora's "ogey"◊ face), versions involving Fuwamoco took off incredibly quickly once they started circulating the internet.
- "As a foreigner, this manipulated image pleases me greatly." ExplanationA common response to said face edits.
- Mococo's Sneeze of DoomExplanationBecause of her chronic allergies, Mococo is known for frequently unleashing very loud, forceful sneezes mid-stream, occasionally directly onto Fuwawa next to her, much to her sister's dismay. Many Ruffians have taken to counting or compiling clips of all of Mococo's sneezes, which prompted her to vow never to sneeze again after hitting her 200th. Needless to say this didn't last very long at all.
- MOGOJANExplanation"Moco-chan" is frequently uttered by Fuwawa as how she personally addresses Mococo. Combining Fuwawa's accent with how often she says the phrase, fans (especially clips) often make fun of this by misspelling it as "Mogojan"
- Mister DonutExplanationThe twins' favorite pastry restaurant chain, which became a household name among Ruffians almost overnight after FuwaMoco's Geoguessr stream with AZKi, where Mococo managed to achieve an alarmingly accurate guess by basically triangulating the location of a Mister Donut shop she used to eat at.
- Akihabara's Mister Donut ExplanationThe specific Mister Donut store in Akihabara FuwaMoco visited upon their arrival in Japan has since become an extremely popular site of pilgrimage for Ruffians, who often post images of themselves sitting in the exact spot the twins occupied.
