Pride Royal Ivy

The crown princess of Freesia, the eldest child of Queen Rosa and Prince-Consort Albert, and the older sister of Tiara and Stale. She was a cruel and evil princess in the original timeline, but after remembering her past life as a Japanese girl, she becomes a kind and loving person, hoping to change the story and make a happier ending.

  • The Ace: As befits the titular Most Heretical Last Boss Queen, Pride is incredibly skilled at basically everything she does with the exception of cooking.
  • Action Dress Rip: She rips her skirt when she goes to rescue Roderick from a rebel army. After the fight is over, she gets embarrassed when she realizes her legs are fully exposed. In the Anime, her clothes are more generally torn and ripped, making her embarrassment more believble.
  • A Child Shall Lead Them: She is yet to ascend the throne, however she is already involved the kingdom's politics and affairs, even giving her complete freedom to make whatever decisions she delivers.
  • All-Loving Heroine: She has near endless compassion and forgiveness for people around her, no matter what their crimes are. It's somewhat deconstructed, as one of the main reasons for this behavior is that she knows how vile she was in the original game and considers any crimes pale next to the ones she committed in the game. This is also reconstructed too as well, due to Pride exercising proper judgment towards people who did wrong like Val and Gilbert, whom she didn't let their crimes slide just because she sympathizes with them.
  • Authority Sounds Deep: Pride projects an imposing, authoritative contralto when exerting her authority as the future queen, in contrast to the sharp, high-pitched voice of the evil Pride from the game's timeline.
  • Benevolent Boss: From the servants of her household who are devoted to her up to her sworn knights who are more than willing to fight for her sake, Pride is this to them.
  • Big Sister Instinct: As their eldest sister, Pride is protective over both Stale and Tiara, and works to ensure that neither are harmed nor exploited by either outside forces or from herself should she turn evil like the original Pride one day.
  • Cain and Abel: Originally in the game, Pride was Tiara's evil older sister who abused her and her love interests, eventually leading them to oppose her and punish her for her tyranny. Upon regaining her past life's memories, however, this is averted, as the current Pride is nothing but a doting and loving older sister to Tiara.
  • Cool Big Sis: The current Pride is this to Tiara, as Pride ensures that her sister is safe, happy, and loved, unlike how her original self treated her in the game's timeline. To a lesser extent, she is also this to her adoptive brother, Stale.
  • Cruel Mercy: Despite being sympathetic over the reason of his shady actions against her and basically admitting his guilt which is treason against the Crown that warrants swift execution, Pride doesn't let Gilbert off the hook. Her sentence for him is to atone for his crimes by serving the kingdom for its prosperity and peace for as long as he lives, knowing fully well that Gilbert's ability might as well allow him to live forever. By doing this, she's sentencing him to dedicate himself to the kingdom even long after his wife Marianne dies.
  • Cuteness Proximity: She internally gushes whenever Tiara does something really cute.
  • Dude Magnet: There's Stale and Arthur for starters, and it's indicated that several of Freesia's knights are attracted to her as well. Val also develops feelings for her later on. Her list of male admirers grows further as the novels run their course. Not that she's aware of it, though.
  • Evil Me Scares Me: Pride hates the evil, original Pride from the game and is utterly fearful of the possibility that she could inevitably become her one day and harm her loved ones like the evil Pride did in the game's timeline.
  • Evil Redhead: In the game, Pride was a vile redheaded villainess. Subverted in the new timeline where her Past-Life Memories make her into a good person.
  • Good Eyes, Evil Eyes: One way to differentiate the good Pride from her original, evil self is through their eyes. The current, kindhearted Pride has larger, more innocent-looking eyes compared to the original evil Game Pride's narrower, and more slanted ones.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Just because she is benevolent and compassionate person and royal who does things partly because she doesn't want to end up like old Pride doesn't mean that she will let people who clearly did harm against her, her family, and her people off the hook. Just ask Val and Gilbert.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Pride wants to do everything she can to make those around her happy and everyone sees her as a saint for it, but she still fears she might not escape her fate of becoming an evil villainess and finds herself despicable whenever she finds in herself traits like jealousy and pragmatism that she thinks make her similar to the evil Pride from the game.
  • I Didn't Mean to Turn You On: Pride is completely unaware of how much she turned Arthur and Stale into blushing, stuttering messes when she iterates the meanings of the flowers she personally picked for both of them, making it seem like she was proposing to them without context. In her point of view, she was simply telling them how much their relationship with her meant to her and that she was simply complimenting them for the traits that she found admirable between both.
  • Instant Expert: She's immediately proficient with the sword and with guns from just observing Stale's training sessions with Sir Carl and from watching the knights use them despite having no prior training or experience in using either weapon whatsoever. Turns out, Pride has an amazing memory and a talent to instantly master anything she's learned based on what she's seen, which Pride chalks up to her status as the "last boss character" in the game.
  • Lethal Chef: Despite being prodigious in a lot of areas, Pride's main weak point is her inability to cook anything without ruining the dish she's trying to whip up. The ironic thing here is that the girl she was reincarnated from was a good cook who can make decent meals and Pride inherited her culinary knowledge, but her current body is somehow unable to replicate the skills she once possessed from her previous self.
  • Loved by All: Ever since she recovered her Past-Life Memories, everyone who has met Pride ends up loving her.
  • Nice to the Waiter: The current Pride is compassionate towards all her subjects and is especially nothing but kind to the castle staff who are directly serving under her, making her a beloved figure to her subordinates.
  • No Name Given: The high school girl Pride was reincarnated from remains nameless in the narrative, and virtually nothing is known about her life prior to her death and eventual reincarnation into Pride beyond possibly sharing similar quirks and personalities with the current Pride, although it was at least mentioned that she was a good cook in her past life.
  • Oblivious to Love: Stale and Arthur were in love with Tiara in the game, so Pride assumes that's going to be the same case in the new timeline. She has no idea that both guys have fallen for her instead.
  • Onee-sama: Thanks to Pride remembering her past life, Tiara has a much better relationship with her than in the game, as Pride acts as a noble and respectable older sister.
  • Other Me Annoys Me: The current Pride completely detests the petty Villainess her character from the Game is, that she treats her as a separate entity by referring to her as either "Game Pride" or simply "Her".
  • Parrying Bullets: She can deflect bullets with a sword.
  • Past-Life Memories: Pride regaining her memories as the unnamed Japanese high school girl from her past life serves as the trigger to her becoming the complete opposite of the original Game Pride, derailing the original game's plot from the get-go. She admits to herself that she is still "Pride" despite this, albeit with the compassion, empathy, and additional knowledge that she inherited from the high school girl that the original villainous Game Pride lacked.
  • Pretty Princess Powerhouse: Pride is a beautiful princess, but she's also the last boss of the original game. She's such a powerful fighter that only Arthur can best her.
  • Princess Protagonist: She's the main protagonist and the crown princess of the story she has reincarnated in.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: In the original game, the evil villainess Game Pride wore a primarily red and black dress. Subverted in the new timeline where Pride dresses with the same colors despite being good now.
  • Red Is Heroic: The redheaded Pride is primarily adorned in red clothing no matter her age and is an unambiguously compassionate and heroic figure to her subjects and loved ones. This contrasts the Game Pride, who was an Evil Redhead.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Game Pride served as the Final Boss that Tiara is meant to kill. During the ambush that would have claimed the life of many Knight Recruits in a training exercise, the current Pride requests to be sent to the battlefield; where she deftly beat back the terrorists and saved the Knights including Roderick; the Knight-Commander. Following this, the rest of the Knights look up to Pride with... well. Pride.
  • Seers: In the original game, Pride had the power of precognition that she inherited from her mother. In the new timeline, she doesn't exactly have precognition, but her Past-Life Memories of the game still let her foresee the future.
  • Strong as They Need to Be: Pride is at once both a dainty princess who can't so much as climb a rope unaided, an acrobatic One-Woman Army that effortlessly jumps around over people's heads and cuts through fully armored knights with a single swing of her sword because that's how she was written in the game.
  • Sword and Gun: She comes to rescue Roderick from enemy soldiers while wielding a sword in one hand and a gun in the other.
  • Tears of Remorse: After gaining her Past-Life Memories, she cries as she apologizes to her servants for the awful way she treated them until then. She also cries when she regrets how her villain self from the game forced Stale to kill his own mother and made his life a living hell.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Thanks to remembering her past life, she goes from a cruel Royal Brat to a kindhearted and loving person.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Both Stale and Arthur are astonished when she tells them that they must kill her if she ever becomes evil. Keep in mind she was 8 and 11 at the time. Quite justified since her former life lived enough to attend high school, but still...
  • Weak, but Skilled: Pride's abilities border on Implausible Fencing Powers even in-universe, but as she herself notes, she's still in the body of a petite little princess, enabling Arthur to overpower her in a duel his route.
  • Wise Beyond Her Years: Upon remembering her past life, Pride immediately discards her prior bratty attitude and becomes much more mature in demeanor, personality, and wisdom even though she's just an eight year old girl at the time. This shocks nearly everyone who knew about her previously selfish and bratty reputation, though they are just as quickly won over by her upon getting to know her better.

    Stale Royal Ivy

Stale Royal Ivy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stale_royal_ivy.png

Pride's foster brother and adviser and a capture target in "Our Ray of Light".

  • Adopted into Royalty: Although he is a commoner, he has a special ability, so he was adopted by the royal family as an adopted brother and assistant to Pride.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Pride welcomed him as a member of her family and allowed him to keep in contact with his mother through letters. In return, Stale has sworn to do anything to protect her and make her the greatest queen of all.
  • Brains and Brawn: The Brains to Arthur's Brawn. Stale is a crafty politician and Arthur is a powerful knight, with both working together to support Pride.
  • Brainy Brunette: He's the brainy one of Pride's supporters and has dark hair.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Zig-Zagged. He's perfectly fine with Arthur's devotion to Pride because he sees him as a close friend and knows he would never betray Pride, but he absolutely loathes Gilbert because he's jealous of him and fears he could be more useful to Pride in ways he can't be.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Arthur. They quickly become best friends because of their shared love and admiration for Pride.
  • It Was a Gift: His glasses were a gift from Arthur. He treasures them so much that he refuses to wear any other glasses.
  • Matricide: In the original game, Game Pride had enslaved him and forced him to kill his own mother. Averted in the new timeline where Pride doesn't do that.
  • Misery Trigger: He nearly has a Heroic BSoD when someone tells him he's similar to Gilbert, especially when Pride says so. Given how he correctly suspects that Gilbert is up to no good against Pride at the top of being competent in statecraft, this is a strike against his ego.
  • Nightmare Sequence: Has horrid nightmares of what the Game Pride would be like, though it seems he thankfully forgets them upon waking up.
  • Not Blood Siblings: Stale is a foster brother to Pride and Tiara, and it's mentioned marriage between foster siblings is allowed by royalty. In the original game, he romanced Tiara, but in the new timeline, he has fallen in love with Pride instead.
  • Purely Aesthetic Glasses: Arthur gives him glasses as a gift, not because he needs them; they're a means for him to differentiate himself from Gilbert.
  • Rage Breaking Point: When Pride forgives Gilbert's crimes in exchange for serving the kingdom for the rest of his long life, Stale tries to suppress his frustration out of respect for Pride. After some prodding from Arthur, he finally snaps and lets out his anger by throwing clothes around.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: He's an intelligent and sharp-witted boy with glasses.
  • Subordinate Excuse: The royal family adopted him to make him Pride's assistant. After falling in love with her kindness, he's wholeheartedly devoted to the job of supporting his future queen.
  • Teleportation: His special ability is teleportation. He can teleport himself or the people and objects he touches to an exact location.
  • Undying Loyalty: He swears eternal loyalty to Pride.

    Tiara Royal Ivy

Tiara Royal Ivy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tiara_royal_ivy.png

The second princess of the Kingdom of Freesia and Pride's younger sister by two years. She is the protagonist of "Our Ray of Light" and was destined to defeat Pride along with the final target.

  • All-Loving Heroine: She's kindhearted and compassionate to a fault. In the original game, she couldn't bring herself to hate Game Pride no matter how unrepentantly evil her sister's crimes were.
  • Big Sister Worship: She loves and admires Pride more than anyone.
  • The Cutie: Tiara is a very adorable and sweet princess.
  • Formal Characters Use Keigo: Her Japanese speech patterns are extremely formal, as it's befitting of a polite and gentle princess.
  • Girl in the Tower: In the game, Game Pride had locked Tiara away in a tower, from which she escaped with the help of her love interest. This doesn't happen in the new timeline where Pride is good.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She has blonde hair, and is described as good, purehearted and pretty like an angel.
  • Hime Cut: Tiara is a princess with blunt bangs, cheek-length sidelocks, and waist-length straight hair.
  • Princess Classic: She's the perfect representation of a fairy tale princess; adorable, sweet and innocent. This is why her sister adores her and is jealous that Tiara is such a lovable princess while she herself was an evil queen in the game.
  • Romantic Wingman: Tiara keeps it very subtle, but it's clear, especially in the anime, that she supports both Stale and Arthur's feelings for Pride, so she pushes each party into scenarios that would have both boys grow closer and convey their feelings to Pride.
  • Satellite Family Member: With Pride having all but officially taken the role of protagonist from Tiara, Tiara is left with little to no characterization or relevance beyond being Pride's cute younger sister.
  • Shipper on Deck: At first, she supports Stale getting together with Pride. Then after figuring out that Arthur also has feelings for Pride, she later starts supporting both of them instead and cheers them on.

    Arthur Beresford

Arthur Beresford

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arthur_lastame.png

Another capture target in "Our Ray of Light". He's the son of Roderick, the commander of the Royal Freesian Order of Knights. His father expected him to become a knight, but he gave up the idea of becoming a knight because he initially thought his ability was not suited for combat.

  • Adaptational Badass: In-Universe, Arthurs' Green Thumb ability is revealed to actually be healing all diseases with a touch, the current Pride reveals this information to him five years earlier than when his game counterpart manages to unlock it.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: Pride can fight on her own, but Arthur takes it upon himself to become her champion.
  • Bodyguard Crush: After he becomes a royal guard, Arthur couldn't be happier with his job because it gives him the perfect chance to accompany and protect Pride at all times.
  • Brains and Brawn: The Brawn to Stale's Brains. Arthur is a powerful knight and Stale is a crafty politician, with both working together to support Pride.
  • The Champion: He aims to become a knight to protect Pride. Stale supports him because he wants him to become Pride's sword who will cut down anyone who means her harm.
  • Combat Medic: Besides being a very talented knight, he has a very rare healing ability that can cure any disease with his touch.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: In the game, after his father died, Arthur cut his long hair and changed his hairstyle to resemble his father to culminate his revenge towards Pride for letting his father die. In the new timeline, however, he instead starts tying back his hair into a ponytail after Pride inspires him to take his knight training seriously and with a newfound goal to become her champion.
  • The Gift: He's even more gifted for swordsmanship than his father. Even though he neglected his training for years, he gets into shape very quickly and can become a knight years earlier than he initially expected.
  • Green Thumb: His ability allows him to make plants grow nicely. Unfortunately, this was seen as an useless ability for a future knight and he thought he should become a farmer instead, until Pride made him change his mind. However, this is just one of his ability's applications and he truly can heal people with his mere touch.
  • Healing Hands: His true special ability can heal diseases with a mere touch.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Stale. They quickly become best friends because of their shared love and admiration for Pride.
  • Lady and Knight: The White Knight to Pride's Bright Lady. Arthur chooses to become a knight because he wants to protect Pride and make sure she never strays from the right path.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: He's a very pretty boy with long white hair.
  • Master Swordsman: He's destined to become the greatest swordsman in the kingdom. The only person that can actually compete against him is Pride.
  • Mystical White Hair: His white hair is a hint to him having a very special ability of healing.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He closely resembles his father, especially in the game where he adopted his father's hairtyle after his death.
  • Undying Loyalty: After Pride saves his father's life, Arthur vows to become a knight in order to serve and protect her. Even after he discovers he has a rare healing ability, he chooses to stay as Pride's knight.

    Gilbert Butler

Gilbert Butler

Voiced by: Koji Yusa (Japanese), Jay Hickman (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gilbert_lastame.png

The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Freesia.

  • The Ageless: With his ability to manipulate his own age, he has obtained eternal youth, making him essentially immortal.
  • The Atoner: In exchange for saving Marianne's life, Pride makes Gilbert swear he will loyally serve the monarch of their country for the rest of his days, as a way to atone for his previous manipulations and conspiracies against the royal family.
  • Canon Character All Along: In-Universe, Pride doesn't initially recognize Gilbert from the game, until she realizes that "Gilbert" was actually Gil: a Secret Character from the game that only appeared as either a young kid or an old man due to how his fiancée died and was motivated to join Tiara's Party in overthrowing Game Pride due to his part in creating a Super Registration Act that Game Pride took advantage of.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: He fell in love with Marianne when they were young and once he climbed the social ladder, he asked her to marry him, which she happily accepted.
  • Dual Age Modes: He has the ability to change his physical age. Pride initially didn't recognize him as a game character because he only appeared as an old man or a young boy in the game.
  • Healthcare Motivation: His fiancée is dying from illness, driving him to look for someone with a healing ability to save her life. This is why he schemed against the royal family and tried to push for a law that allowed him to check for all the ability users in the country. When all that fails, he tries to resort to human trafficking, but Pride and Stale stop him.
  • Heel–Face Turn: While Gilbert isn't a bad guy per se, he was particularly antagonistic towards Pride and attempted to do several morally questionable things out of desperation to save Marianne from her illness. When Pride helps him and saves Marianne while letting Gilbert off with what he had done in what is essentially a slap on the wrist, he becomes genuinely devoted to her and swears his life to faithfully serve the kingdom she cherishes.
  • I Kiss Your Foot: After he swears loyalty to Pride, he kisses her hand, much to her embarrassment. Her mortification only increases when Gilbert goes on to kiss her foot and shin as a symbol of his subordination to her.
  • In-Series Nickname: Marianne calls him "Gil" for short.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: Pride decides to not make Gilbert face an immediate punishment for his misdeeds, but instead orders him to serve the kingdom and lead it to further prosperity and peace for eternity. Given his powers and being genuine contrite over his actions, he can basically do that. This means that he will eventually outlive everyone he knows, including his beloved Marianne, and will live a lonesome immortal life with the sole purpose of atoning for his crimes.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: He's a handsome man with long hair that he wears in a ponytail.
  • Love Makes You Evil: He was willing to sell out his kingdom's secrets and engage in human trafficking in a desperate bid to save his beloved Marianne. Fortunately, Pride stopped him and brought Arthur to save Marianne before he crossed the point of no return.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Game Gilbert undergoes this when after his Super Registration Act had been passed, not only was his fiancée dead the same day from the illness, but that Game Pride now had free reign to enslave all Ability Users for her own personal army.
  • Self-Made Man: He started as a peasant who was orphaned at a young age and needed to earn money in illegal ways to survive. After he fell in love with a high-class lady, he worked hard until he became the kingdom's Prime Minister in order to gain the right to ask for her hand in marriage.
  • Shapeshifter Mode Lock: In the game, the trauma of Marianne's death caused Gilbert to lose control of his ability to control his age and become trapped in the form of an old man.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: To Stale. They have a strong animosity due to Gilbert spreading bad rumors about Pride. Though after Pride's actions save Marianne and Gilbert swears genuine fealty to her from then on, Gilbert eventually comes to respect Stale and finds his dislike of him rather amusing.
  • Super Registration Act: Gilbert pushed for Freesia to adopt one of these to check for abilities that are among its populace, the initial goal of which was for him to find someone with a Healing Hands ability to cure Marianne's disease. By the time that the Act was passed in the game, his fiancée had died the same day while Game Pride mocked him for this by rubbing in his face that she can now enslave Ability Users for her army.
  • The Transmogrifier: Besides being able to manipulate his own age, he can change the physical age of other people by touching them.
  • Undying Loyalty: Pride saving Marianne from her disease and eventual death via Arthur healing her as well as her compassion towards him and Marianne makes Gilbert swear true fealty and devotion to Pride for as long as he lives.

    Val

Val

Voiced by: Jun'ichi Suwabe (Japanese), Jeremy Gee (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/val_lastame.png

A bandit who gets captured by Pride during Roderick's rescue. She then forces him into a slavery contract to save the soldiers captured by the criminals. He played a minor role as Pride's minion in the game.

  • Big Brother Instinct: He later becomes very protective of Sefec and Kemet, basically seeing them as his adoptive younger siblings.
  • Can't Live with Them, Can't Live Without Them: Kemet and Sefec started following him around because they felt safe around him. Val got annoyed by this and tried to get away from them, but Pride's conditions in the slavery contract forbide him from hurting other people. After Kemet and Sefec are kidnapped by human traffickers, Val wants to save them so badly that his contract forces him to ask Pride for help. He still doesn't understand it himself, but he grew to care about the children.
  • Cannot Tell a Lie: His slavery contract with Pride prevents him from lying when she asks him a question.
  • Defrosting Ice King: He was initially cold and indifferent to Sefec and Kemet, only allowing them to follow him because his contract with Pride forbade him from hurting them. Over time, he softened to the children as he grew attached to them and came to view them as family without even realizing it.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: He can manipulate earth with his special ability.
  • Elemental Barrier: He has the ability to make walls and shields from dirt.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Val goes from a hired mercenary thug willing to have Freesia's knight trainees and commander killed in an ambush via his powers in his first meeting, to a man who grows to care for Sefec and Kemet and goes to willingly work for Pride regardless of the subjugation contract he's under out of genuine loyalty to her.
  • Humanizing Tears: As he can't stop thinking about what will become of Kemet and Sefec if they aren't rescued from the human traffickers, Val can't keep up the tough guy act anymore and breaks down in tears in front of Pride. This is when Pride realizes Val has come to care about other people for the first time in his life.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's rude and abrasive, but he truly cares about Kemet and Sefec as if they were his family. He also proves to be a valuable ally for Pride's team, even though his boorish and teasing personality can be annoying.
  • Lecherous Licking: He kisses Pride's foot when he swears loyalty to her. Then, he takes the chance to lick it, making her freak out from embarrassment.
  • Self-Harm: Pride forbade him from hurting other people when they made the slavery contract. To vent in moments of big frustration, Val punches walls so hard that his fists are left bleeding.
  • The Tease: When he swears genuine fealty to Pride, the first thing he does after giving her the customary kiss on her foot to prove his wholehearted devotion to her is to deliberately lick it right in front of Stale, Arthur, and Tiara. His smug grin afterwards shows that he really enjoyed Pride's reaction to this the most.
  • Tsundere:
    • He denies that he cares about Kemet and Sefec, even calling them annoying. Despite his gruff attitude, he's obviously attached to the kids, so much so that them being kidnapped made him so worried that he asks Pride for help, according to the conditions she set in his slavery contract.
    • He also develops a crush on Pride, but doesn't want to admit it and denies he's blushing when thinking about her.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Val never cared about anyone but himself, so he's terribly confused and distressed when he finds himself feeling angry and uneasy after Kemet and Sefec are kidnapped by human traffickers. Pride figures it out for him; he's worried about the children he has come to see as family.

Kingdom of Freesia

    Rosa Royal Ivy

Queen Rosa Royal Ivy

Voiced by: Kikuko Inoue (Japanese), Shelley Calene-Black (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rosa_lastame.png

Pride's mother and the current queen of the Kingdom of Freesia.

  • Adaptational Nice Girl: While she still keeps her at arm's length, Rosa is portrayed more sympathetically and is a notably warmer mother towards Pride in the first manga adaptation, as the reasons behind her being an aloof mother towards Pride as she grew up are explained much earlier than in the novels. She's also seen giving Pride a supportive hand when she notices that the latter's hands were trembling when she was about to sign Val's Fealty Contract. In the novels, she comes off as a colder figure in Pride's point of view and one of Pride's reasons for being the one to sign the contract with Val in the first place is that she feared that Rosa would give him a much harsher sentence if she hadn't done so herself.
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: She's a graceful and elegant queen wearing a primarily purple Pimped-Out Dress.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She's a benevolent and beautiful queen with blonde hair.
  • The High Queen: She treats all people equally, but she dares to wear a stern expression around her eyes in order to show her dignity as the queen.
  • Parents as People: Rosa genuinely loves Pride and is remorseful that she had to separate herself and Tiara from her first daughter for years on end, but a combination of her fears after foreseeing Pride's eventual turn to evil during Pride's childhood as well as her prioritizing her own duties as queen over being a parent have led to Rosa becoming an absent mother to Pride as the latter grew up. Regardless, she tries to be as supportive to her eldest daughter as much as she can to make up for it in the present and is truly proud of her as her mother whenever Pride acts in dignity as the Crown Princess of Freesia.
  • Seers: She has the gift of precognition.

Arthur's father and the commander of the Royal Freesian Order of Knights. In "Our Ray of Light", he died in an avalanche that Pride had foreseen yet did nothing to prevent. In the new timeline, Pride rescues him.

  • Super-Toughness: Downplayed. His ability makes it impossible for him to be cut by a blade, but he's vulnerable to guns or being crushed by rocks.
  • Tears of Joy: After he hears Arthur declare he wants to become a knight for Pride's sake, Roderick cries and thanks Pride for saving his life, as he now has the joy to watch his son follow his footsteps.

    Marianne Edwards

Marianne Edwards

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marianne_edwards.png

Gilbert's beloved fiancée. In the game, she died from an illness, but Pride takes the measures to assure her survival in the new timeline.

  • Babies Ever After: She and Gilbert have an infant daughter together named Stella some time after Marianne's disease was healed.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: With Gilbert. They met when they were young and became close as she sneaked out of her house to take late night walks with him around town. They fell in love and became engaged as adults.
  • Delicate and Sickly: She had a frail health from a young age and her illness was the reason of her death in the game. Thanks to Pride, Arthur heals her before it's too late.
  • In-Series Nickname: Gilbert calls her "Maria".
  • The Lost Lenore: Her Game counterpart died due to Gilbert's Super Registration Act being signed on the same day she died. The trauma of losing her caused Gilbert to become stuck in the form of an old man, which is why Pride didn't recognize him at first.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Even after her illness is healed, Marianne is a regular person with a normal lifespan. Since Gilbert has the power to halt his own aging, he's basically immortal and will likely long outlive Marianne.
  • Morality Pet: To Gilbert. His deep love and devotion to Marianne is what ends up making him sympathetic.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: She has pink hair and her fiancé Gilbert has light blue hair.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: She's a very sweet and gentle woman with pink hair.
  • Satellite Love Interest: All her characterization comes from her relationship with Gilbert and she only exists as the main motivation behind his actions.
  • Uptown Girl: She's the daughter of a Count and Gilbert was a mere peasant when they first met. After he heard she was going to become engaged to someone else, Gilbert worked as hard as he could to increase his social status until he finally became qualified to ask her to marry him.

Two children from the slums where Val lives.

  • Excellent Judge of Character: Sefec's intuition about picking Val as their guardian.
  • Happily Adopted: As Val got used to their company, he grew to consider Sefec and Kemet as his family and it's clear the sentiment is returned by the children.
  • Making a Splash: Sefec has the ability to shoot water from her hands.
  • Meta Power: Kemet's ability is to make any ability user stronger when they touch him.
  • Morality Pet: To Val. He used to be a rough and selfish bandit until he grew attached to Sefec and Kemet as he came to see them as his siblings.
  • Mundane Utility: Sefec's ability allows her to conjure clean, drinkable water. She uses it to secretly port and then sell water to the people in the slum to make a living.
  • Never Given a Name: They originally didn't have names. Val named them when he started getting attached to them.
  • Numerical Theme Naming: Their names mean "7" and "3" in the language of the country Val is from.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: When they finally get to wear proper clothes, Sefec wears pink and Kemet wears blue.
  • Stalker without a Crush: Having no family or place to go, Sefec and Kemet started following Val around because they felt safe around him. He was annoyed by this at first, but his contract with Pride prevented him from hurting them and he slowly became attached to the children.
  • Super-Empowering: Kemet's ability supercharges the abilities of others through physical contact. What's extraordinary about his ability is that it seems entirely passive, with no effects on his stamina and the levels it can elevate other abilities; Sefec's water sprays become geysers able to blow apart iron bars and Val becomes capable of completely altering surrounding terrains when in contact with Kemet.
