Azucena Milagros Ortiz Castillo

¿Es hora de entrar? ¡Aquí viene el espectaculo de Azucena! note

Origin: Peru
Fighting Style: Mixed Martial Arts based on Rumi Maki *
Voiced by: Marisa Contreras

Being the sole daughter of the Ortiz Farm, she delves into the world of MMA to publicize her family's home-grown coffee. She sets her sights on the King of Iron Fist Tournament to promote the farm even further.

  • Alternate Company Equivalent: She's a charming Genki Girl from Latin America whose given name is Spanish for 'lily' and was revealed in the same year as Street Fighter 6's Lily Hawk.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Even though she aligns herself with G Corporation, she doesn’t seem to see anything wrong with it, thinking that she's contributing to world peace by providing the best coffee to her compatriots. It isn't clear whether she's an amoral person, or just cluelessly naive when it comes to picking those she associates with.
  • Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: She's the only female character so far in Tekken 8 (Panda aside) whose default outfit adheres to this code (her alternate ones too).
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: She's obsessed with coffee to the point that she thinks her family blend is so delicious that its properties will help to encourage world peace, and that aligning with G Corp to achieve that is an acceptable course of action.
  • Crazy Enough to Work: In her ending, she mixes together her Ortiz brand coffee and Lili's own family tea blend after the pair fail to settle which is the best hot beverage. Azucena serves the concoction to a nearby alpaca, who slurps it up with relish, much to both girls' surprise.
  • Dance Battler: She is the fifth character that combines dancing with fighting introduced in the franchise, after Eddy Gordo, Tiger Jackson, Christie Monteiro and Lucky Cloe. Many of her taunts are also dances.
  • Easily Forgiven: Can be seen happily serving coffee to Leroy and a few Yggdrasil soldiers in the end credits of the Hope ending to 8, despite having allied herself with G Corp prior. Though this doesn’t mean that she had a Heel Realization, as she can instead be seen happily serving coffee to Dragunov and a few G Corp soldiers in the end credits of the Despair ending, making her the only character who ends up thriving regardless of which ending the player gets.
  • Finger Poke of Doom: She caps off her Rage Art with a very nonchalant flick on the opponent's forehead, all while asking them if they've had their morning coffee yet. She also has a taunt version of this, which with Heat activated becomes a combo starter.
  • Flower Motifs: The Madonna lily, which she's named after.
  • The Gadfly: Her dodges are all accentuated by her playfully taunting and goading, as if saying "you can't catch me".
  • Genki Girl: Her animations are bursting with enthusiasm, happily dancing in place and treating the fight like she's playing with her opponent.
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: One of her alternate outfits has her wearing a leather jacket.
  • Home Stage: Azucena makes her debut along with her own personal stage set at her family's coffee farm in Peru, complete with cute alpacas roaming around and panpipe playing locals watching from the sidelines. If the fighters smash the arena floor, they tumble down into a sub-chamber to find ancient Incan gold and architecture beneath.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Her family has their own coffee farm, and she can't get enough of the stuff. It's somewhat implied to be the reason for her high-energy personality. Amusingly, she even has a rivalry with Lili over which drink is the best, owing to Lili's fondness for tea.
  • Obliviously Evil: Azucena explains to Leo in her usual Genki Girl tone that promoting her family's delicious coffee is the best way to encourage world peace, and blithely aligns with G Corporation (and Kazuya by association) to support her cause.
  • Overly Long Name: Her full name is Azucena Milagros Ortiz Castillo, which makes her having the longest full name out of any character in the franchise since in most Latin American countries, it's typical for people to have two given names and two family names (one for each parent).
  • Perky Female Minion: In the Story Mode, she is aligned with the G Corporation due to them having better brand optics for her coffee.
  • Plot-Irrelevant Villain: Azucena has no larger connections to the greater Tekken lore and simply exists as an affable Punch-Clock Villain in the story mode.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: At the end of the day, she is only really interested in promoting her family coffee brand, and if siding with the G Corporation and Kazuya in his plans to take over the world can help grow her business, so be it. Dubious alliances aside, she is shown to be very amicable with anyone, as she is the only character that appears alive and well in both endings, and no matter the outcome, she serves her coffee with her same usual enthusiasm.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Decides to leave G Corp behind after losing her fight against Leo.
  • Shameless Self-Promoter: Her sole reason for fighting is to promote her family's coffee business. She's also willing to side with G Corporation if it means getting more publicity.
  • Theme Naming: Her move list employs some recurring themes:
    • Coffee is an obvious one with moves such as Aero Press Pegar, Roast Knuckle Combo and Golpe Capuccino.
    • Close Encounter, Daylight Disk, and Caffeine Abduction among other moves hint at some vague connection between her and the UFOs that appear in her home stage.
  • Take a Third Option: Her Character Episode ending has her decide to settle her coffee VS tea rivalry with Lili by combining the two drinks together. Lili is initially skeptical and fears that Azucena's committing cultural appropriation, but the end result causes a nearby alpaca to immediately chug the entire mixture, creating a brand new joint product between the Ortiz and De Rochefort families that becomes an instant hit!

    Victor

Victor Chevalier

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/victor8_1.png

Nous sommes les seuls a pouvoir controler l'equilibre de puissance de ce monde. note

Origin: France
Fighting Style: Super Spy CQB
Voiced by: Vincent Cassel

The founder and leader of the UN's independent forces. Descended from a bloodline of distinguished knights, Victor served in the French military where he quickly built up a fearsome reputation as one of their strongest operatives, earning the code name of "Phantom Raven". Foreseeing that the world would eventually fall under the control of a singular corporate entity, he created the Raven Unit with the intention of having an autonomous force that is still aligned with the UN's goals. With signs of his worst fears becoming true, Victor decides to take action himself and sets off to fight against G Corporation.

  • Alternate Company Equivalent: He is essentially Bandai Namco's answer to Hitman from DNF Duel, though he comes off more as a version of the pistol-wielding Secret Agent (a fellow subclass of the Agent line) from Duel's parent game.
  • Badass Boast: He all but tells the opponent to accept their defeat when walking into the arena. And for good reason.
"I'm looking forward to a nice, one-sided fight."
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: He's dressed in a stylish haute couture grey suit.
  • Blue Blood: A refined, aristocratic man of knightly lineage, with his family name literally meaning “knight” in French.
  • Cool Shades: If only to complete that secret agent look, of course.
  • Connected All Along: Victor is the main link between the United Nations and Raven's organization, with him being the founding leader of the latter.
  • Four-Star Badass: He does plenty of asskicking and holds the rank of Admiral.
  • Gangsta Style: He fires his gun with the Center Axis Relock stance meant for close-quarters gunfights.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: Shouts out "Hissatsu!" when performing some of his Iai stance attacks.
  • Greater-Scope Paragon: He's the head of the organization both Ravens have been a part of, meaning that his presence in Tekken's story has been felt since 5.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Uses a high-tech katana called the "Take-Mikazuchi" despite being French, though this helps tie him to the more overtly ninja-inspired Ravens.
  • Home Stage: His stage is set onboard a pleasure cruiser travelling down the Seine River in Paris at sunset, taking in a lovely view of the Eiffel Tower.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: The spec-ops unit he leads is called the Raven Unit in the game's NA site and the Raven Force in Bandai Namco EU's blog.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: Victor's appearance is designed with his VA, French actor Vincent Cassel, in mind.
  • The Leader: Of Raven and Master Raven's organization, the Raven Force. He also leads the combined coalition between the UN and Yggdrasil alongside Lars.
  • Light Is Good: He's a shady but ultimately benevolent figure, and goes into fights wearing a pristine white suit.
  • McNinja: A French ninja who uses an even more advanced form of Raven and Master Raven's fighting styles, being their commander.
  • Meaningful Name: Chevalier means "knight" in French. He's a descendant from a lineage of distinguished knights and his main motivation in life is to help others in need.
  • The Mentor: To Raven and Master Raven, being their direct superior.
  • Multi-Melee Master: He can wield a combat knife and sword in tandem, alternating between that, his fists, and a gun.
  • The Musketeer: He wields a high-tech katana, a combat knife, a karambit knife, and a pistol.
  • Occidental Otaku: He's a big fan of Japan and its culture, having been trained by a friend of his father's from that region and likely informing his use of a katana. Against Japanese characters like Reina, he'll quip about how they offer free pieces of tissue paper on street corners. When pitted against Yoshimitsu, he remarks how it is an honor for him to battle someone close to being a modern-day samurai.
  • Old Master: Visibly he's one of the older fighters of the roster, and is the mentor of both the series' Ravens, as he's the head of their mysterious organization, now known as the Raven Force. Both of them augmented aspects of his fighting style to include Japanese Ninjitsu.
  • Red Baron: Over the years he has spent as an operative, he soon came to be known and feared as the "Phantom Raven". Victor himself, however, is not fond of this moniker.
  • The Rival: Shares his subordinate Raven's rivalry with Dragunov, with Victor's unique intro and victory dialogue against him suggesting they share a long and storied history. Both clash in the story of 8; Victor wins and attempts to finish Dragunov off for good... only for him to escape.
(pre-fight) It’s been a while, White Angel of Death.
(activating Rage Art) Today's the day you die.
(during Rage Art) Oh, White Angel of Death... farewell!
(post-fight) Looks like the last number for this twisted dance of ours.
  • The Scrooge: He is stated to be a penny-pincher.
  • Significant Monogram: His initials (V.C.) are a reference to his voice actor, Vincent Cassel.
  • Silver Fox: He's quite dashing despite appearing to be among the older characters on the roster.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: His moveset is fairly reminiscent of the movesets used by Master Raven, Noctis and Kunimitsu II in how it combines sword strikes and teleports.

    Reina (UNMARKED SPOILER WARNING)

Reina

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/reina8_46.png

少しは楽しめたぞ。次だ!(Sukoshi wa tanoshimeta zo. Tsugi da!) note

Origin: ???
Voiced by: Asami Seto

A Mishima Polytechnical High School student who seems to have some sort of connection to the Mishima bloodline. All else about her is shrouded in mystery, but her demeanor and fighting style are eerily evocative of the previous head of the Mishima Zaibatsu — Heihachi Mishima...

Her true identity is that of the illegitimate daughter of Heihachi and an unknown woman. She enters the tournament with ulterior motives, coercing Jin into allowing her to join the ranks of Yggdrasil to fight against Kazuya and G Corporation. Though she successfully feigns camaraderie with the rest of Yggdrasil, she seems strangely fixated on fighting Kazuya and potentially dying by his hand, carefully and intently listening in on their discussions about the Devil Gene. After Kazuya absorbs Azazel's power and becomes True Devil Kazuya and appears in the final battlefield between Yggdrasil and G Corporation, she intentionally takes a blast from one of his lasers, seemingly dying in the process, but not long afterward she awakens with her eyes glowing red — the mark of a Devil. After awakening her Devil Gene, she begins her plans to take control of the Mishima Zaibatsu, to carry on the work of her father.

  • Ambiguous Situation: Her mother’s identity remains a mystery. She’s Heihachi's daughter and carries the Devil Gene, so she is either another child Heihachi had with Kazumi before she was killednote , since the Hachijo clan are known carriers, or considering the Devil Gene spawned from Azazel, her mother could be a woman from another clan who worshipped Azazel and inherited the Gene as a reward. There's also the matter of why she's so devoted to her father - is she devoted to someone she's built an image of throughout her life, or did Heihachi secretly raise her as his intended true successor?
  • Alternate Company Equivalent:
  • The Antichrist: She's a Devil Gene bearer who proves to be as power-hungry and tyrannical as her brother — a Devil himself — while managing to ingratiate herself with the series' heroes to further her own agenda and manages to succeed in the end.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Girl: Like Father, Like Daughter, Reina is very proud and self-assured of her prowess in martial arts, and not the least bit shy about letting others know where she thinks they ought to stand relative to her.
"Submit to me. Bow to me! Know your place! I'm way out of your league."
  • Avenging the Villain: She appears to have a grudge against Kazuya because he killed Heihachi, their father and one of the series' villainous characters.
  • Badass Adorable: Being a Dark Action Girl doesn't make her any less cute and beguiling.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": When forfeiting her tournament match with Jin, she transitions a little too quickly from calmly assessing her opponent to holding her side and acting like she's injured. Her inflection becomes too over-the-top as well.
    "Ouchie-wowchie! I give. I give already!"
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Though the extent of her villainy is up in the air, the Story Mode ends with her getting exactly what she wanted: Unlocking her Devil Gene.
  • Bastard Bastard: Reina is Heihachi's illegitimate daughter who is just as manipulative and ruthless as he was.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Lets out a big "NANDATTO?!?" when knocked out.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: The first we see of her in the story she acts very cheery and formal to Jin, though her inner monologue later on has her talking in a much more menacing and ruder tone. And while she does ally with Yggdrasil, she has her own plans of cultivating the Devil gene within her to take vengeance on Heihachi's death, which she succeeds in. In regular matches, she shows a lot of arrogance in her skill and will talk down on certain opponents, namely her relatives.
  • Blood Knight: Even against True Devil Kazuya, she's ecstatic to face him. Most of her role in the story revolves around hurling herself into life-threatening danger to try and unlock her Devil Gene. Most of her gameplay quotes involve goading the opponent to give her a challenge or reveling in her superiority over them.
  • Cain and Abel and Seth: A previously-unknown Mishima sibling who turns up out of the blue and whose goal of activating her own Devil Gene places her in direct conflict with both of her half-brothers, Kazuya and Lars.
  • Challenge Seeker: One of her intro quotes has her goading her opponent to do their best... So she can unleash her full power in kind. The story mode reflects this as she constantly tries to put herself in danger during the storyline in order to unlock her own Devil Gene power.
"Try your hardest. Push me to my limit!"
  • Combat Pragmatist: One of Reina's styles is Taido, a traditional martial art mixed with acrobatics and brutal efficiency. She's not afraid to scratch eyes, perform Groin Attacks, and will even Kick Them While They Are Down.
  • Contralto of Strength: Her voice is among the deepest of the female fighters, and she has a notably brute force way of fighting that is uniquely hers. Notably when pretending to be friendly with the heroes, she inflects to a higher pitch - such as when addressing Jin as "Jin-senpai" - all so she can remain more inconspicuous.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: Her fight with True Devil Kazuya. Though she manages to hold her own quite well and get in a few good hits, she proves to be no match for Kazuya and would've been killed had it not been for Claudio's intervention.
  • Cute Bruiser: Her small build doesn’t stop her from hitting like a truck.
  • Daddy's Girl: Unlike the rest of Heihachi's known children, she completely respects and adores her father.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: Whereas past Mishimas have all rebelled against their fathers in some way, Reina completely follows in daddy Heihachi's footsteps, emulating his style and mannerisms to a T, and sporting an ornate, traditionally Japanese alternate costume very much in tribute to her father's Fated Retribution outfit, as seen here, complete with oni imagery.
  • Dark Action Girl: She has a vicious streak a mile long, and is an utter Blood Knight out to get the best fight she can, as some sort of twisted echo of Heihachi himself. Her Rage Art finisher lends her a devil motif (with the resulting silhouette having a noticeable resemblance to the deceased King of Iron Fist's profile).
  • Design Preservation Villain: Not normally, but in the secret ending she successfully awakens her Devil Gene, resulting in her taking on the iconic image of the Devil after the main story saw Kazuya purged of it. Her Devil form's horned hairstyle also resembles her father Heihachi's own iconic hairstyle.
  • Distaff Counterpart: A lot of her moves, win poses and even quotes are based on Heihachi's.
  • Duality Motif: The basis of much of her design. From the use of two different fighting styles to the usage of yellow and purple electrics to her default costume being split between purple and black colors. She also puts two different personas when interacting with people, pretending to be friendly and dropping the facade when fighting.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Unlike Heihachi's other kin, Reina loves her father and sets her goal on continuing his legacy to reclaim the Mishima Zaibatsu and Take Over the World, as well as getting revenge on Kazuya for killing the father she loved. Going by her daydream in her Character Episode, she also seems to share her late father's appreciation for Kuma, imagining him as her right-hand who gets to share the honor of defeating Kazuya, even joining in on her Evil Laugh at the end.
  • Evil Counterpart: In addition to being highly evocative of Heihachi in many of her moves and mannerisms, Reina's other attributes, such as her Boyish Short Hair, nature as a high school student, hard-hitting fighting style, and even default apparel consisting of fingerless gloves, shorts, and boots, all give an idea as to what Asuka would look like were she a Mishima rather than a Kazama.
  • Evil Laugh: Just like her father, Reina does several of these. Her most notable ones are during one of her stomp attacks where she jams her knee into the opponent's back to trip them up and slams their chest against the ground while grinding her foot into their back, during her choke hold grab, and an epic one that's a dead ringer for Heihachi's during her Character Episode ending. Notably unlike Heihachi, her take on his iconic laugh borders on Noblewoman's Laugh.
  • Eye Awaken: After letting herself get blasted by True Devil Kazuya, she lies bruised and beaten on the ground before her eyes snap open, changing color from gray to red.
  • The Fake Cutie: Reina presents herself as a cheerful, cutesy "kohai" who admires Jin and wants to study under him while doing all that she can to help stop Kazuya, but it's all just an act. Her real personality is that of a cold and calculating young woman who wants to further her own ambitions by learning how to unlock her own Devil Gene, and to get revenge on Kazuya for killing Heihachi (who was also Reina's father).
  • Faux Affably Evil: She puts up a friendly, polite and enthusiastic facade to cover up her calculating, ruthless true nature. This at least got the Yggdrasil protecting her against True Devil Kazuya. Her real thoughts about examining the Devil Gene are shown to the audience throughout her tenure with Yggdrasil, however.
  • Foreshadowing: The fact that she has a dormant Devil Gene is actually foreshadowed by her Rage Art. The silhouette with red eyes that evokes Heihachi is actually that of her Devil form, and the dimension she sends the opponent to is shown being used by True Devil Kazuya during his own Rage Art.
  • Gendered Outfit: Her Devil form looks like a more feminine version of Kazuya's. Her waist is covered in panty shaped armor and her legs armor stops mid-thigh, looking like thigh highs, and her wrists have spiky growths to look like bracelets.
  • Groin Attack: Reina has a few moves that deliberately strike her opponent below the belt, one of which in particular, named Jewel Snatcher, involves her stabbing the point of her hand between her opponents legs before grabbing their groin and ripping.
  • Hereditary Hairstyle: Her Devil form shown in The Stinger of 8 has Heihachi's hair horns.
  • History Repeats: The story of Tekken 8 ends with Kazuya taking Heihachi's place as a powerful but ultimately pure human fighter, and Reina takes Kazuya's place as a Mishima with the Devil Gene.
  • Home Stage: "Secluded Training Ground" — a dimly lit Buddhist training dojo very reminiscent of Hon-Maru (from 4) or Mishima Dojo (from 7). It even has a broken wall that faces the full moon just like the Fated Retribution version of Mishima Dojo. Breaking the side walls also reveals the murals from both versions of Jin's Tag Tournament stage.
  • I Let You Win: After gleaning the information she wanted on the Devil Gene during her tournament match with Jin, she feigns injury and forfeits the match.
  • Interface Spoiler: Selecting Reina's P2 costume reveals that it has several golden Mishima Zaibatsu emblems adorning it — something usually reserved only for Mishima family members and affiliates of the Zaibatsu. This indicates to anyone who hasn't played through the story yet that her fighting style is not just mere coincidence.
  • Irony: Heihachi hated the Devil Gene to the point where he was willing to murder his own son just for potentially having it. Reina — who is revealed to have it in The Stinger of 8 — sees having it as proof she is worthy of his legacy and goes to great lengths to awaken it. Though for further irony, she really could be the kind of achievement Heihachi strove for via his experiments.
  • Keeping the Enemy Close: Jin allows Reina to join Yggdrasil not because he trusts her but rather to keep an eye on her due to having Mishima style techniques.
  • Kick Them While They're Down: She has a handful of moves where she stomps the opponent, and revels in dominating her opponent and making them submit.
  • Kneel Before Zod: One of her win poses has her sitting on her throne with her opponent bowing before her, demanding them to either surrender or die. Her ending has Yggdrasil being on her thumbs while sitting on her throne, spoiling her demands from bringing Kazuya to her to massaging her hands or pulling doors open for her.
  • Imagine Spot: Her Character Episode seems to conclude with her daydreaming. She wins the tournament to become the new head of the Mishima Zaibatsu and crushes Kazuya underfoot with an Evil Laugh...only to cut back to the tournament right before the final match where she says, "Just Kidding."
  • Large Ham: She speaks highly of herself in a very bombastic and grandiose tone, much like her father.
  • Leitmotif: "Silently Boisterous", the theme associated with the Secluded Training Ground, and what plays in Reina's reveal trailer.
  • Made of Iron: She takes a ludicrous amount of punishment in the story mode without any permanent damage. A brief barrage of punches from a Devil empowered Jin just knocks her back without fazing her (though she fakes being injured). Kazuya subjecting her to Beam Spam from all angles followed by a particularly large blast merely leaves her battered and bruised but still standing. Later during the Big Badass Battle Sequence when Kazuya unleashes a laser beam big enough to carve through the whole battlefield Reina deliberately steps into its path and takes the brunt of it without resistance and still survives, though the threat of death was close enough to awaken her Devil Gene.
  • Meaningful Name: The name 'Reina' means "wise" in her native Japan, though it's coincidentally cross-cultural, and appropriately enough for someone first glimpsed lounging on a throne, it also means “queen” in Spanish. Fittingly, she is quite cunning and manipulative, easily fooling everyone in Yggdrasil other than Jin into thinking she's an ally of theirs, while her true goal appears to be following in her father Heihachi's footsteps, making her the "Queen of Iron Fist".
  • Mysterious Purple: When introduced, she's a complete enigma to the rest of the cast, something emphasized by her purple palette.
  • Nominal Hero: Just like her father Heihachi in 2, Reina allies herself with the heroes and opposes Kazuya purely for personal revenge after he killed Heihachi (who was hardly a saint himself), and her primary focus during the story isn't actually on stopping Kazuya but awakening her Devil Gene so she can acquire more power.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: She's not invested in stopping Kazuya from world domination beyond opposing him on principle for killing their father, and her main goal throughout the story is to observe Jin and Kazuya's Devil Gene in action so she can figure out how to awaken her own.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: In her interactions with others, she puts on a more foolish and silly persona, such as telling Jin that she learned the Mishima style by "copying it off the internet" rather than revealing her heritage. She also only joins Yggdrasil and plays along with being an ally to them just so she can be put in a near-death situation, in order to awaken her latent Devil Gene.
  • One-Winged Angel: One of the final cutscenes of the game shows Reina having survived being blasted by Kazuya's True Devil form and transforming into a Devil form of her own, with spiked-up purple hair (fashioned into Heihachi's swallow's tail hairstyle no less), greyish-purple skin, horns, Black Eyes of Crazy with yellow irises and Hellish Pupils, retractile bat-like wings, and spikes jutting from her wrists, shoulders, and hips.
  • Playing Both Sides: She starts off fighting against Jin in the tournament to try and see the Devil Gene in action, only to forfeit her match and team up with him. But that's just so she can get close enough to Kazuya to get her revenge and see his Devil Gene in action. When she realizes that a near-death experience is required to activate her gene, she rejoins the heroes and enters the battle on their side once again. When Kazuya joins the fray and fires a massive blast at the army, she deliberately hurls herself in the way to try and activate the gene. It works.
  • Practically Different Generations: She is Kazuya's sister, and he is over 20 years older than her. She's actually younger than Jin, Kazuya's son and her nephew.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Sports an overwhelmingly purple and black palette, and is presented as one of the stronger characters of 8's cast, being able to hold her own against True Devil Kazuya to some extent.
  • Psychotic Smirk: She is rarely seen without a devilish grin on her face. It adds to her mysterious and deceptive nature.
  • Razor-Sharp Hand: Several of Reina's attacks aren't merely punches or open palm strikes, but even spear-handsnote . Most notably, she'll bury her hand in her opponent's abdomen before channeling a torrent of lightning into them in her Rage Art.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: She's a Dark Action Girl, whose third costume combines a crimson kimono and devilish mask with a black hakama and sandals.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: After taking a blast from True Devil Kazuya, an unconscious Reina lies bruised on the ground before her eyes snap open, changing color from gray to red, and indicating that her Devil Gene has awakened.
  • Replacement Flat Character: As the surviving Mishimas come to the end of their character arcs or at least reckon with the passage of time, Reina barges in as both as a comparably jovial psychopathic stand-in for Heihachi (in word and fighting style) and as an inheritor of the Devil gene after Jin and Kazuya are exorcised of it.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Reina serves as a walking symbol of the Mishima storyline, and shares aspects of everyone associated with the Mishimas.
    • She has Heihachi's moves and many of his mannerisms.
    • She is affiliated the color purple and possesses a sitting slouch, both of which have been associated with Kazuya since Tekken 2.
    • Her purple color motif, mixed with her cocky demeanor and devilish smile, call to mind the early days of Lee Chaolan, back when he was predominantly an Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy.
    • She is a purple-oriented Dark Action Girl, similar to Jun's villainous alternate persona, Unknown, from Tag 1 and 2.
    • She is around Jin's age, and attends Mishima Polytechnical School much like he himself did.
    • She bears a noticeable resemblance to Jin's cousin, Asuka.
    • The attacks she has imbued with the Mishimas' trademark electricity use a mix of all 3 colors associated with them throughout the years: blue (Kazuya and Heihachi), red (Jin) and purple (Lars).
    • She turns out to be Heihachi's illegitimate child (Lars), and carries the Devil Gene within her on her mother's side (Kazuya).
    • She is a female practitioner of the Mishimas' karate and also possesses the Devil Gene, much like Kazumi.
  • Shared Signature Move: Several of her moves are shared with her father, Heihachi, such as the Mishimas' trademark Electric Wind God Fist. This includes several attacks that even the other Mishimas don't share, such as Stonehead or Raijin Stance, as well as a variant of Heaven's Wrath. In the story mode, she uses Heihachi's Rage Art from 7 against Jin, which slightly tips him off to her true nature.
  • She-Fu: Zigzagged. One of Reina's fighting styles is Taido, which has some emphasis on agility and acrobatic movements, and features many capoeira-esque cartwheel kicks. However, this is interwoven with her Mishima-style Karate, with many moves pulling from Heihachi in particular, featuring much more grounded and heavy blows that range from heavy straight punches, to smashing headbutts, to grabbing her opponent by the throat and hurling them through the air. The blending of such contrasting styles is likely deliberate to further her Duality Motif.
  • Shock and Awe: Like the Mishimas, her motif is lightning, and her epithet is "Purple Lightning". The fact that she can perform an Electric Wind God Fist at all indicates some kind of relationship with them. And indeed, she turns out to be Heihachi's illegitimate daughter.
  • Slouch of Villainy: One of her intros has her sitting on a plush chair, similar to how Jin sits prior to his boss battle in 6 and how Kazuya sits in (among others) 1.
  • Smug Smiler: Is constantly sporting a devilish grin in every moment she's shown and has the Arrogant Kung-Fu Girl attitude to match. Like father, like daughter.
  • Smug Super: She has an incredibly high opinion of her own strength but considering that she's the first person in the entire cast that proves capable of standing up against the likes of True Devil Kazuya for some time, it isn't unwarranted.
  • The Spook: No one knows anything about her beyond the fact that she is a student from Mishima Polytechnical, the same college Jin went to. Not only does she use this to her advantage, but she also later reveals that she's actually Heihachi's illegitimate daughter, making her another Mishima.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Her introduction fills the gap in the roster left by Heihachi after the latter was Killed Off for Real in 7. Given that she's his illegitimate daughter, it's very appropriate.
  • Taking the Bullet: A rare non-heroic example. When True Devil Kazuya scorches the battlefield with his Devil Beam, she hurls herself in the way, not to protect anyone; mind you, just to try to use the near-death experience to activate her dormant Devil Gene. It works.
  • Technicolor Lightning: Her electric attacks are a blend of yellow and purple.
  • Teens Are Monsters: Being the illegitimate daughter of a powerful and corrupt businessman who hosts a worldwide martial arts tournament, it goes without saying that Reina embodies Heihachi's ruthlessness to extreme degrees, and being another carrier of the Devil Gene, she's literally a devil doing the impression of a teenager.
  • Terms of Endangerment: In her special intro with Jin Kazama, she calls him “Jin-senpai”, and expresses her eagerness to finally meet him in battle. While she clearly had more than a bit of sarcastic smugness packed into the statement, the fact the only thing her bio confirms as fact is that she attends Mishima Polytechnical School like Jin does certainly adds even more questions of just how well she knows him (especially since he doesn't seem to know her in the same intro). This may not be coincidental as Jin was Heihachi's understudy before her.
  • Thanatos Gambit: She takes the full power of True Devil Kazuya's Devil Beam, which seemingly kills her. Cue her eyes opening and her irises turning red. Turns out, she planned this suicidal stunt to try and awaken her Devil Gene, as it activates if its host is on the brink of death. It works.
  • There Is Another: By the end of the game's Story Mode, regardless of the ending chosen, the reveal of Reina being Heihachi's illegitimate daughter and a Devil Gene carrier left behind a few loose ends to the entire series' lore.
  • Token Evil Teammate: For Yggdrasil. Reina joins them after her bout with Jin, as he wants to keep an eye on her due to her displaying Mishima-style techniques. While she works with Yggdrasil seemingly with no intention of betraying or working to destabilize their plans, it's clear that she has her own agenda, which primarily involves awakening her own Devil Gene so she can rival Kazuya without any thought for Yggdrasil soldiers killed in the crossfire when an enraged Kazuya goes berserk and attacks her.
  • Tomboyish Voice: Her deeper voice highlights her tough, no-nonsense vibe. It gets higher pitched like the other females when she’s manipulating Yggdrasil.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: All of her study on the Devil Gene has led her to conclude that this is the way to unlock it. To that end, she throws herself into extremely dangerous or outright suicidal situations to trigger her own awakening. After parrying True Devil Kazuya's massive eye beam with her face, she succeeds.
  • Villainous Valor: However questionable her motives or arrogant her demeanor it cannot be denied that Reina shows unflinching determination and resolve even in the face of overwhelming odds, and a willingness to put her own life on the line without hesitation in the name of her ambitions.
True Devil Kazuya: "There's nowhere to run. You're going to regret this!"
Reina: (Chuckling) "Turns out this way works better for me!"
  • Walking Spoiler: Reina is so intrinsic to the plot details of Tekken 8 that it's impossible to talk about her without revealing the fact that she's not only Heihachi's daughter, but another Devil Gene-wielder as well. And all of these reveals occur during and after the conflict between Jin and Kazuya has been resolved, spoiling their outcome entirely.
  • You Killed My Father: She appears to have a grudge against Kazuya for killing Heihachi, their father.
