Middle-school faction

     Kaya Kazuhisa

If you die trying to save them, you won't be able to help anyone!

The protagonist.

  • Achievement In Ignorance: He's the first to kill an orc, and he does it entirely by accident. He digs an elaborate pit-trap, so he can kill The Bully Saso, who's trying to kill him via bullycide. The bully wanders away due to an earthquake. A moment later, an orc falls into the pit instead, dying, and giving Kaya a level up.
  • Animal Eye Spy: He gains a skill that allows him to see through the eyes of his familiars. He uses this to scout enemy encampments.
  • Attack Reflector: The aptly named [Reflection] ability, but using it is a rather tricky prospect as the timing has to be just right.
  • Bathtub Bonding: Invoked. He's forced to share a bath with both Arisu and Tamaki. At the time, he's way, way too hurt and tired to refuse, or really do anything other than let himself get washed down.
  • Briar Patching: When he confronts Saso, while rescuing Arisu, he shouts at the panicking Saso "Shoot me!" Saso does, leading to his own bullets getting reflected back into his own body, killing him.
  • Classical Antihero: He's a good, kind man, who deserves the devotion of his Battle Harem, but he's plagued by cowardice, doubt, and self-recrimination, thanks to at least an entire school-year of horrific abuse, and the resentment that brings.
  • The Farmer and the Viper: He steps in to rescue a victim of Sosa's bullying, and while it's not surprising that Sosa turns on him as a result, the victim takes Sosa's side and starts bullying him too, happily mocking him for being on the ground in a puddle of his own body fluids, including blood.
  • Heroic Safe Mode: When he spots Arisu heading off with Sosa, unable to hear the context of the situation, he goes into a self-loathing fugue and indulges in an orc killing spree. Fortunately, Tamaki finds him and snaps him out of it before he gets in too far over his head and dies.
  • Hope Bringer: He's the only reason the Middle-school faction isn't drowning in a pit of despair.
  • The One Guy: To his chagrin, he only manages to rescue the girl's dormitory of the middle-school, all the boys in the middle-school being long dead, and the high-school still under the thrall of Saso Shiba, who is such a heinous bully that he'd be indistinguishable from the orc menace, and brutalized him for an entire school year, would certainly not be amenable. Even after Saso's eliminated, the high-schoolers remain belligerent.
  • Summon Magic: One of the skills he chooses involves summoning familiars.
  • Support Party Member: As noted in his character profile, he doesn't have the talent for straight-up combat, and specializes in hanging back and supporting those that do.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: While he still hates the rest of the high-school that actively aided Saso, Saso's the only one he seeks to make dead, since the lout is a vile and completely unrepentant threat that's just going to keep coming, refusing to be swayed, until either he or Kaya is dead.
  • Took a Level in Idealism: Thanks to meeting Arisu, and falling in love with her, he's become much more hopeful and optimistic.
  • Trap Master: He specializes in digging traps.
  • Trauma Button: And its name is Saso Shiba. Hardly surprising considering that the most benign abuse mentioned involved being stripped naked, and being ridden like a horse, whipped whenever he stopped moving, while the rest of the high-school population pointed and laughed, including the teachers!
  • Unwanted Harem: He pointedly does not desire to have multiple female love interests, seeking to be faithful to Arisu, but as circumstances force more and more women upon him, this stance is harder and harder to justify.
  • Vengeance Feels Empty: Played with. While he doesn't feel any satisfaction seeing Saso die, he is very happy the sob is dead because the guy won't be a threat to his Amazon Brigade any more.
  • We Cannot Go On Without You: As mentioned by numerous characters, if he dies, his faction's morale will completely collapse.

     Shimozono Arisu

Love Tamaki and the others too, Kazu-sempai!
The first heroine and Top Wife.
  • Abusive Parents: Her foster parents were so cold and aloof that the only time they interacted with her was "discipline." What this entails remains unsaid, but it was so horrific, the terror of impending rape by an orc, losing her virginity in the process, has her completely unfazed.
  • Attempted Rape: Is introduced to the story with an orc bearing down on her, preparing to rape her. Fortunately, Kaya stumbles upon them and kills the orc.
  • Combat Medic: Her build. She chose spear mastery and healing magic as her skills.
  • Dissonant Serenity: No matter how dangerous the situation, she's completely unflappable and barely emotes.
  • First Girl Wins: She's the first girl Kaya meets, post orc invasion, and she's his primary love interest, which is just how she likes it.
  • Harem Seeker: She pushes several other girls unto Kaya as love interests, starting with Tamaki.
  • Preclimax Climax: In the prelude before they have to face an elite-orc for the first time, she agrees to have sex with Kaya in "the white room" so, worst comes to worst, they can die without regrets. Of course, she gets her virginity back when they come out of the room...
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Her eyes are red, and she's a force of nature in battle.
  • Technical Virgin: She and Kaya have sex in "the white room" where level-ups take people to choose how to distribute their skill points. Since her body-state returned to what it was before going into the room, she got her virginity back!
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives a glorifying one to Saso when the guy calls Kaya "trash."
    「Kazu-san is not trash!」

Arisu roared. She held my hand and shout with her chest out.

「Just like Kazu-san said, he liberated the Cultivating Centre. Those who survived from the middle school section are only the people from the Cultivating Centre. But because Kazu-san is around, about 30 people survived. Because of Kazu-san’s commands, everyone is able to grow to the extent that we can win against the elite orcs easily. Even the general orcs are defeated, same for the hellhounds. Even as per your promise, the general orc is defeated. This is all because of Kazu-san’s hard work. Other than Kazu-san, no one else can do it.」
  • Top Wife: She may want Kaya to have other love interests, but she insists on being his most beloved. Nobody has a problem with this.
  • Tranquil Fury: When she's pissed, she goes eerily quiet and then mows down the target(s) of her rage. Kaya makes a note to never, ever be the cause.

     Ryuuki Tamaki
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_6972.PNG
Can it be, you want to do me and Arisu at the same time?!
The second heroine.
  • Abusive Parents: Her foster parents had hair-trigger tempers and would shout abuse at her the moment they felt she failed at anything, in even the slightest. She got a major abandonment and inferiority complex as a result.
  • Birds of a Feather: She and Arisu have much in common in their backgrounds.
  • Bring Me My Brown Pants: The first of many showcased having an "accident" when terrorized by the orcs.
  • Dumb Muscle: She's not great on tactics or strategy, she just loves to rush in and smash things, either with the axe she took from an elite orc, or the magic sword she looted from the general orc.
  • The Gadfly: She loves to tease Kaya on having sexual interest in Arisu, and later in herself.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Wears her hair like this.
  • Girly Bruiser: Got the [Physical] skill so she'd be strong enough to wield the weapons belonging to the orc leaders, and [Swords] skill so she'd be adept at using them. More often than not, she can go toe to toe with them and match them in raw strength.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Golden-haired blonde and a good, kind woman who treasures her friends.
  • Hates Being Alone: Her greatest fear is abandonment. Arisu insisted Kaya form a romantic relationship with her to deal with it.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Scared of being seen as a burden and abandoned, she overcompensates and tries way, way too hard to outshine everyone else. Her adoptive parents did this to her, deliberately.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Since she has a deep-seated inferiority complex that drives her to outshine everyone else, she's prone to charging head-long into the enemy, ignoring her plans, preparation, and backup. This has put her in a serious pinch on several occasions.
  • Preclimax Climax: Exactly like with Arisu, she agrees to have sex with Kaya before going to rescue Arisu, in a battle where the odds are clearly against them, to help stabilize Kaya's mind. Seeing as there's a bunch of personal trauma he has to deal with too, and just like with Arisu, she gets her virginity back!
  • Stepford Smiler: She projects a happy and carefree attitude, but beneath it all is a little girl constantly terrified of failing and being abandoned.
  • Sword Beam: An ability she learns upon getting sword-skill rank 8.
  • Technical Virgin: Just like Arisu, she has sex with Kaya in "the white room" and gets her virginity back when they come out.

     Shiki Yukariko
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_4969.png
Let me play "the bad guy", Kazu-san. If you need to lay with any of these girls, I'll make it happen!
The class president of Kaya's class.
  • Accomplice by Inaction: She didn't participate in the bullying on Kaya, but she did nothing to stop it. Of course, both she and Kaya come to realize there was nothing she could have done, as the teachers and school director were entirely complicit.
  • Angst? What Angst?: In universe. She is among many victims of rape, for hours on end, at the hands of orcs, and most of the others required magic to stabilize their minds. She, on the other hand, states that she's pushing the trauma out of her mind by keeping busy and refuses to let her mind be calmed by magic.
  • The Atoner: She hates the fact that she did nothing to help Kaya when he was being bullied by the rest of the high-school and believes she deserved to be raped, and wants to be made to suffer.
  • Birds of a Feather: She and Kaya have so much in common that it's scary. They even think alike.
  • Blade Enthusiast: Loves to use throwing knives as weapons.
  • Chain Pain: When throwing knives aren't enough, she can wield a chain. Strangely, chains are also counted as throwing weapons thus benefiting from the [Throw] skill.
  • Class Representative: Prior to the earthquake that heralded the entire mountain the school resides on being shipped to this alien world, she was the class president.
  • Dirty Business: Which she undertakes of her own volition. She insists on being the one to dish out the Mercy Kill to those who can't be saved, due to the physical or mental trauma being too severe, and end their suffering.
  • Does Not Like Men: Combined with Hates Being Touched. The trauma of hours-on-end rape from the orcs has made her androphobic, and simply being touched by a guy is a Trauma Button.
  • Fiery Redhead: Red hair, and a hotblooded character who keeps the middle-school faction together while Kaya's indisposed.
  • Gamer Chick: Deconstructed. The reason she got shoved into this remote elite school is that she became addicted to MMO type games and went all hikkikimori for half-a-year. Her parents blew a gasket and shipped her off to this remote school so she'd be Nailed to the Wagon, since there's no internet, phones, or anything of the sort.
  • Give Me a Reason: After Sosa's willing accomplices find themselves exiled, as a result of their villainy, with the rest of the high-school faction now under Yuki's care, they go to the middle-school cultivation center and yell a bunch of misogynistic taunts, asking the girls to become their sex-slaves. Just taunts is not sufficient cause to kill them, much as Shiki might want to, especially considering their grievous wrongs upon Kaya. So she's waiting for them to do something really, really stupid, like attack Yuki, so she can send her girls out to show these fools just how outranked they really are.
  • Good Cop/Bad Cop: The bad cop to Kaya's good cop.
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: While Kaya focuses on the fighting, she focuses on the mundane matters.
  • Nailed to the Wagon: Fed up with her addiction to online games, her parents shipped her off to a school with no phones, internet, and lacking most modern conveniences.
  • Pragmatic Hero: While she does want to protect the lives of the survivors, she's not squeamish about getting her hands dirty in the process.
  • Stealth Expert: Chose this build so she can blindside monsters by sneaking up on them and using thrown weapons.

     Tagamiya Mia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fuyo_vol_4_cover.jpeg
Could it be that Kazu-sempai wishes to eat urine soaked panties?
The third heroine.
  • All Women Are Lustful: She approaches Kaya for sex, constantly.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Gets her arm blasted off by an [Orc General] at one point, and it takes several chapters before the party can graft it back on. Fortunately, there don't appear to be any lasting issues from this.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Meeting new "fantasy" races in this world makes her lose control and go gaga.
  • Blow You Away: One of her chosen skills is wind magic.
  • Casual Kink: She's fond of "suggesting" some rather unusual fetishes to Kaya, the "urine soaked panties" one being at the top of the list.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: She's extremely perverted, but mutual fully-informed consent is paramount.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: The other skill she chose is earth magic.
  • Gamer Chick: To the highest level of any named character. She uses terms even other die-hard gamers in universe don't understand.
  • Harem Seeker: Even more than Arisu. While Arisu only pushes women onto Kaya who are both close personal friends and for whom she has sound physiological and psychological reasons to believe they need an intimate relationship with him, Mia is completely indiscriminate and just wants Kaya to screw around as much as possible, purely to sate her perverse curiosity.
  • Hostage Situation: Not her, but her severed arm is stolen by Saso to compel Arisu to help him.
  • I Know Mortal Kombat: Her knowledge of RPG and RTS games helps her come up with some profound and viable strategies to deal with the monster menace.
  • Otaku: A rare female version who is otaku... For HENTAI, and since she suffers from "open mouth insert foot" disease, she tends to blurt out sexually inappropriate things, at the most inopportune times.
  • Squishy Wizard: She has powerful earth and wind based spells, but still has the fragility of a normal human.

     Nagatsuki Sakura
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sakura_42.png
Orcs, I will make your race extinct, by killing each and every one of you...
One of many victims of orc rape and violence who wants genocidal vengeance.
  • Guilt-Free Extermination War: She wants to utterly genocide the orcs to extinction. Considering how heinous they are, even to their own, this is a perfectly acceptable stance to have.
  • Rape as Drama: One of many who endured hours-on-end rape from orcs. This motivates her to want vengeance by extermination.
  • Revenge: Her motivation for joining the fight.
  • Waif-Fu: Her fighting style focuses on agility and evading monster attacks.
  • Weak, but Skilled: At level 1, she's agile enough to go toe to toe with a hell-hound, and the monster can't touch her. While she couldn't deal the monster any damage, the fact that it couldn't touch her allowed Tamaki to close in and behead it.

     Shimoyamada Akane
A girl that dies to the blade of an [Elite Orc].
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Gets cut in half, vertically by an [Elite Orc].
  • Heroic Sacrifice: When an [Elite Orc] tore through its own retreating underlings to lay siege at Kaya, he ordered her and two other spear wielders to retreat. All three of them tried to hold off the monster, with her dying in the process.
  • Hold the Line: Was a member of a spear-wielding vanguard to deal with an orc siege.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Introduced and killed off in the same chapter.

     Suginomiya Sumire
One of the survivors rescued by Kaya.

High-school faction

     Saso Shiba
The Bully who made Kaya's high-school life hell.
  • Asshole Victim: Nobody mourned his death.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: When he went to the middle-school, pre-invasion, he would be the doting "older cousin" and did his best to make Arisu happy. When he got back to the high-school, he ran a Reign of Terror and had the entire population victimize Kaya, for daring to rescue another victim.
  • Broken Pedestal: When Arisu learned of his true character, it destroyed her trust in him completely.
  • The Bully: His entire role in the story.
  • Control Freak: When he's not in control of the situation, he's very quick to have a breakdown and panic attack.
  • Despotism Justifies the Means: He just loves being in power and controlling the lives of others. He has no desire beyond that.
  • Entitled to Have You: To Arisu. When she went with Kaya, of her own will, he completely lost it.
「Don’t joke! You are mine! Not that trash’s, hurry up and come back, Arisu!」
  • Evil Virtues: He keeps his promises, so that the people he wants to control become dependent on him.
  • Gun Nut: Takes custody of a combination shot-gun/rifle his father, the director, smuggled onto school grounds and uses that to fight the orcs.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: He shoots at Kaya, and Kaya responds with "Reflection", causing his own bullets to hit him, and kill him.
  • I Control My Minions Through...: Whatever means are available. He can make others dependent on him by promising things in return for their servitude and then keeping his promises. He can control others by offering them their most base desires. Or he can control them by terror, and fear of invoking his wrath.
  • I Have Your Wife: He used Mia's severed arm as a hostage to force Arisu to aid him.
  • It's All About Me: He has to be the one in charge, end of story. Any and all objections are met with violence until the dissenters are utterly crushed and destroyed.
  • Kissing Cousins: What he wanted his relationship with Arisu to be, and he was doing quite well at setting it up. Then she learned what his true character is like...
  • Let's You and Him Fight: During the orc invasion, he kept his own faction safe and destroyed all dissenters by having disposable troops lure orc armies towards his rivals, weakening the orc armies and completely destroying said rivals.
  • Off Screen Villainy: The only reason he manages to escape being a complete monster is that most of his deplorable acts of villainy are off-screen, and are so graphic no narrative or description could possibly do justice to how heinous they are.
  • One Degree of Separation: He's Arisu's cousin, by adoption.
  • Psychotic Smirk: When his minions, being used as shields, are being pinned down by orcs, he openly smiles before shooting said orcs.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: He used his father's clout to turn the high-school into his own private fiefdom, even cowing the teachers to become his minions. His father openly encouraged this.
  • Shameful Strip: Among the many, many abuses he heaped upon his victims, flashbacks show that he loved to strip Kaya naked to further humiliate him.
  • Teens Are Monsters: He has an entire high-school's population, 700 odd people, beat up on a kid on a repeated basis, for daring to disagree with him.
  • Villainous Breakdown: When Arisu walks away from him, heading back to Kaya, and Kaya goes Not Afraid of You Anymore, he completely loses his composure, firing on Kaya. The bullets bounce back and kill him.

     Tagamiya Yuki
Mia's older brother and Ninja.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He was enraged beyond reason upon learning Saso was holding Mia's arm hostage to compel the Middle-school faction, specifically Arisu, to help him.
  • Ninja: His build.
  • Token Good Teammate: The only known high-schooler that does not actively aid Saso, and is still alive.

Natives

     Rirandarukarakumuru Ra Furamusa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_5004.PNG
Rin is the cat-girl on the right.
The first of the named natives introduced.

     Lucia
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vol5_1.jpg
Use me as you wish, Kuza-sama
The daughter of the elven king, assigned to Kaya to help defend the World Tree.
  • Do You Want to Copulate?: After being prompted by Mia, she asks Kaya if she's worthy of siring his children, due to the situation of needing war potential to resist the monster Alien Invasion. Kaya is not amused.
  • Fallen Princess: Her kingdom was destroyed by monsters, including orcs, prior to meeting Kaya.
  • Human Weapon: She was bred to be the ultimate weapon against the monster army, but her kingdom was destroyed before she was ready for action.
  • Mystical White Hair: Platinum silver hair and is a powerful and mysterious elf.
  • Non-Human Humanoid Hybrid: After many sacrifices, she is the product of native+monster breeding.
  • Playing with Fire: At Mia's recommendation, she starts out with level 5 fire magic.
  • Revenge: Just like Sakura, she lives only for avenging her people upon the monsters.
  • Whip Sword: She has a magical rod that transforms into a whip when fed mana.

Monsters, listed in order of appearance

     Common to All
  • Always Chaotic Evil: Without exception, they do horrible things just because they can, and destroy everything that's not useful to them.
  • Evil Gloating: Whenever they kill people, they pause and laugh at the suffering they cause.
  • Monster Misogyny: They just kill men they come across, but women, they will take their sweet, sweet time violating in every conceivable way. Even with magical "therapy", many never recover and have to be put down, just to end their suffering.
  • We Have Reserves: They see their own soldiers as nothing more than convenient tools and happily cut through them for disobedience, failure, running away, or simply being in the way of their intended prey.

     Orcs
The first enemy monsters the class has to face.
  • Beast Man: Half-man, half-pig.
  • Rape, Pillage, and Burn: Their MO. They take what they want, burn everything else, and rape all the left-over women until they get bored and kill them.

     Elite Orc
The first "Boss Monster" In addition to the orc entries above...
  • Disk-One Final Boss: The heaviest hitter to attack the cultivation center.
  • Elite Mook: Their true role in the Orc army. At one point, Tamaki, Arisu, and Kaya have to face three of them at once, in addition to an army of regular orc. Kaya's team wins, but not without casualties.
  • Make Me Wanna Shout: They can unleash a [Roar] attack that terrifies enemies below their level, unless said enemies have mind-protection magic.

     General orc
The toughest of the orc fighters. In addition to the above...
  • Anti-Magic: Its [Roar] cancels out magic. This is so effective, even magical silence is negated.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: It's so strong, it can blast off people's limbs by flicking pebbles at them.

     Hellhound
The first non-orc monster encountered.
  • Breath Weapon: Breathes fire.
  • Canis Major: It's a dog the size of an elephant.
  • Charged Attack: It has to pause and take a deep breath to charge its breath weapon.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: It is vulnerable to its own breath weapon, which Kaya learns by using [Reflection] to defend himself.
  • Playing with Fire: Breathes fire and love to burn things, and people, to charred husks.
  • Poke in the Third Eye: Saw through Kaya's familiar and pointed this out to the [General Orc] it was serving.
  • Sizeshifter: Can go from the size of a normal lap-dog to an elephant at will.

     Archer Orc
  • Cold Sniper: They snipe from ambush without revealing any emotion.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Subverted. While they are powerful with bows and flee when their enemies get too close, given the chance, if cornered where the bow is not effective, they use daggers as backup defensive weapons, and can use them to devastating effect.
  • Hit-and-Run Tactics: They hide in ambush, fire, and then flee.
  • Logical Weakness: As well camouflaged as they may be in trees, if the trees are taken down, they're revealed, and a big enough fall kills them.

     Giant Wasp
  • Achilles' Heel: They are especially vulnerable to fire, and they have very fragile wings that snap off easily, leaving them helpless.
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: They have stingers that they can launch at their targets.
  • Bestiality Is Depraved: They use human women as seedbeds to increase their numbers. The process is especially horrific.
  • Flight: They can fly.

     Globuloid
An Eldritch Abomination that the middle-school faction encounters being used by the orcs to transport themselves to and from the mountain where their high-school resides.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: While it provides the monster army a great many benefits, it has to be guarded as it can not move or defend itself and takes days to digest its sacrifices and convert them to power.
  • The Assimilator: It consumes women by absorbing them into itself and converting them into additional mass, over days at a time, with the girls in question screaming all the while, in both pain and horror.
  • Eldritch Abomination: It's a mass of slime, tentacles, and ooze that makes absolutely no sense from a biological standpoint.
  • Human Sacrifice: It gains power by consuming sentient beings, women specifically.
  • Mass Teleportation: Among its abilities, it can move armies, summon monsters, or landscapes, from the monsters' native world.

     Giants

     Hobgoblins
  • Zerg Rush: While they do have specialized roles, such as cavalry, soldiers, archers, and mages, their primary battle tactic is just to swarm their targets with sheer numbers. They are so numerous, it's often very, very effective.

     Mekishu Grand
The "divine level" beast Kaya and party wind up facing while rescuing human natives.
  • Anti-Magic: Its [Roar] can negate magic of below rank 7.
  • Having a Blast: Fires arrows that explode with the force of a volcano on impact.
  • Horsing Around: Is a four-armed giant centaur so even its legs are dangerous.
  • Kaiju: Over eight meters in height and powerful enough to blow up mountains with a near miss!
  • Make Me Wanna Shout: Can deliver powerful attacks, or negate magic, by roaring.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Has four arms and all of them wield weapons, two for a massive bow and arrows, one for a spear, and one for a sword.
  • Shock and Awe: Has a sword attack that calls down lightning.
  • Those Were Only Their Scouts: As hard a battle as Kaya and crew had fighting one of these things, there are apparently many more.

     Arachne

Top
