Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Gozu-Tennoh is known for capturing Manikins and forcing them into slave labor or using them as a disposable source of Life Energy, even having an entire prison filled with Manikins to slowly drain them of life. Willingly merging with Chiaki Hayasaka, Gozu-Tennoh enables her to launch a genocidal campaign against the Manikin race and create the Reason of Yosuga, an ideology that, if implemented by Kagutsuchi, would reshape the world into a giant slaughterhouse where people kill each other on a daily basis and those deemed too weak to survive are purged en masse.

Years later, when Kor Phaeron was serving under Lorgar as the Word Bearers' First Captain, he began conspiring with Erebus to overthrow the Imperium and sell the galaxy out to Chaos for their own benefit. Corrupting Lorgar to Chaos and seeding cults on the worlds they attacked, Kor Phaeron and Erebus's machinations led to the Horus Heresy, which shattered the Imperium and killed trillions of people. During the attack on Calth, Kor Phaeron stabbed Roboute Guilliman with the Athame blade, hoping to corrupt the Primarch to the Dark Gods. When the Horus Heresy failed and the Word Bearers fled to the Daemon World Sicarus, Kor Phaeron found a prophecy that told of Chaos's ultimate victory at the cost of his life; in response, he slew the prophet Jepeth and destroyed his prophecies, undermining the Word Bearers and the Chaos Gods he claimed to serve to save his own skin.

Upon finding out Steve is still alive, Thompson orders for Steve to be captured and silenced at all costs, resulting in a family of farmers being interrogated getting flogged and one of them being water-boarded to death, which Thompson watches without any sense of remorse. Launching a night raid on Steve's village, Thompson personally guns down civilians and poorly-armed resistance fighters alike, demands for the village to be torched, and rapes Steve's wife Mai La before killing her. When Steve tried to avenge his village by luring Thompson into a booby-trapped forest, Thompson then orders his underlings to force a captured woman prisoner holding a baby as a Human Shield to walk before them into the path of a tripwire-activated landmine, nearly killing both prisoners until Steve is forced to surrender, at which point Thompson had Steve captured alive, to be tortured and executed slowly and painfully.

[tup] to the MODOK rewrite, the Cinder Fall rewrite, the Doctor Arthur Watts rewrite, Xeraan/The Hunchback, Gabriel Kruger, Major Thompson, Baron Mordo,

Keep Cinder Fall and Doctor Arthur Watts.

[tdown] to Colonel Minh.

@Bullman: Have fun on your vacation.

@Pemulis_128: Unfortunately, I'm not too keen on making a page just yet because a majority of the keepers are concentrated in one medium (video games) and it hasn't gotten too unwieldy as of now.

Has anyone suggested The Dark Lord from the Doom Eternal dlcs? He has what might be construed as a Freudian Excuse, but I'm not sure.

Yes to Thompson. The Dark Lord is in no way a keeper.

Maybe the only time where the Big Bad mastermind isn't. But a bunch of his associates and minions are.

Alrighty, one cut I've been meaning to get too for a little while. From Underverse

Complete Monster: X Gaster is the creator of X-Tale. Initially a kind and well-meaning father, he became obsessed with making the perfect world. To this end, he killed his son's friends, as there was "too much happiness", describing their anguish as exciting. Later, he brainwashed his son Frisk into doing a Genocide route, forcing him to try to kill his brother Chara, all as X Gaster mocks Chara. He later has the Underfell universe purged for "interrupting his work", and upon being resurrected by Ink, is apathetic to the fact his manipulations resulted in the destruction of a good chunk of the Multiverse.

Okay....so there's alot from New episodes or looking back at his old stuff and such that have made me torture myself for days on if it was mitigating or if it was subverted(Dude makes Bait the Dog into a Gotdamn art form)

There are hints he might actually still care for his sons despite the horrid things he does to them, but you could maybe make a Dr.Emilia case where he just actively denies and ignores it, especially sense unlike even Emilia he combines callousness with loads and loads of Petty sadism. Like in the most recent stuff where Gaster breaks one of his sons Frisks minds into and uses it to mock Chara, who he lets have his mind cause he finds his anger Funny)

That's the tip of the iceberg and I could spend days talking about other stuff, hopefully strong arguments agaisnt them, Yada yada yada...but Ultimately? While most of any potential mitigating factors can be argued against, or Gaster just takes a good long piss on them. His friendship with Ink seems geniune.

He speaks of how he 'Admires' Ink and he seems to genuinely Consider Ink a friend. A negative influence on him and the reason he turns evil? Sure. But that dosent really alter it looking back.

It sucks, especially given he's gotten even worse.(It's been indicated that with his future vision he saw the events of the Underverse season 1 Finale, indicating that what happned in the Finale, including the destruction of the A Us were part of his plan. Slaughters a crowd of Humans to stop The X events attempts to kill themselves do to still needing them. And in the most recent stuff begins his assault on the Main reality, having his minions attack a City with numerous buildings destroyed and Rewritten X-Mettaton eating numerous peoples souls) but While he's one of the most revoltingly Awful baddies in a Fan Work, I gotta submit him for a cut at this point.

Honestly....I figured if I ever did settle on him being a Cut that it would hurt alot more, do to him being the legendary douche he is and he's probably one of my favorite villains ever, But....Honestly? I don't care as much. It sucks sure, but, I like to think I've grown alot, partially cause I'm finally free from the Pressure on if I should do this or not, and recent events and, Disagreements have....Desentized me to caring on if Really nasty charachters get cut and helped me look at things from an objective and Scrutinizing standpoint.

Also? Highly recommend, there's a shocking ammount of effort and talent that went into this stuff. With the main downside being it can get, Confusing at times.

Is Ryuunosuke Uryuu cut? He's in YMMV but I couldn't find him in any of the actual pages.
