Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

So while I'm catching up on One Piece (Chapter 1000! Just forty to go!), I figured I should ask: have we discussed Kurozumi Orochi, the secondary antagonist of Wano?

I mean, he's a spiteful coward who's deliberately trying to ruin the country.

Is there anything else Carvalho really needs?

The Wando arc is ongoing now, and Orochi is still active. No, we're not discussing him yet.

I'll also have an example from Wild Wild West, the show soon

Yes to Old Monk. Also, for that Polish crime show that I watch, I found 5 of the 10 missing episodes. Shockingly, I foudn two more potential candidates. One I am very sure about and will EP him now. Though, I will say that Witold Tarasiuk must be cut. Only confirmed bodycount of 3 really.

OK, EP;

What is the episode?

A nine year old girl has been found brutally raped and thrown into marshes where she nearly died. Police is examining what happened and find many child bones in the marshes...

Who is Tadeusz Mancewicz?

He is a serial rapist and killer of these little girls. He kidnaps little girls from age of 6-13 and brutally rapes them before throwing them alive into marshes where they die. He also poses as a doctor who cares for children and cures them. It has been revealed that every girl that Tadeusz killed, has been sick with allergies and went to him. It has been happening throughout 20 years all over Poland. Toward the end, police go to his house where the wife and daughter deny and argue "My husband helps children; what type of awful accusation is that?!" Before getting heart attack. The daughter gets ever more angry and refuses to call him. Police figure out that Tadeusz has an isolated house next to marhes and they raid it... only to find he hanged himself (reason why he did isn't unfortunatly explained or implied) and manage to rescue a little girl who was locked away in the room.

Redeeming qualities?

I say none. He has wife and daughter but again, I say this is "I act like regular guy to cover what psycho I am." Especially that we never see him interacting with them in any way. Also, he hanged himself. While it could be argued he did it out of guilt, there is no indication of that. He could do it because he knew he was being targeted by police.

Heinous?

I say he might be worst character actually. Serial child rapist killer is unique even for the show. I will copy and paste heinous standard again...

A man who strangled his seven-year old nephew to death and threw him from balcony because the little boy saw him cheating on his wife.

A woman who used little kids to collect money for her and they were allowed to only take half of it home and when one girl tried to take more home, she had her beaten and hospitalized.

Two 16 year girls constantly bullied a 13-year old boy and he accidentally tripped and fell under a car which killed him (granted, killing him wasn't their goal, but they sure showed no remorse for it).

Two 17 year old girls beaten third 17 year old girl because they were angry at her success at school.

A man murdered an elderly couple and their 19-year old granddaughter (his neighbors) because they had money and he wanted it.

5 white nationalists who brutally beaten and hospitalized an Armenian girl and burned her younger brother to death. When caught by police they were seen raiding a Vietnamese restaurant with and trying to beat (or maybe kill) Vietnamese owners. When arrested, we hear them scream things like "Why arrest Polish citizens?!" or "Traitors! Take care of those dirbags, not us good people!" They don't count because we never find out their individual names, and unfortunately, too much offscreen villainy here.

A 16 year old girl murdered her older brother because he objected to her dating much older man.

Witold Tarasiuk who was also serial killer but now I am inclined to cut him. He only has confimred bodycount of three.

Verdict?

Keep him.

  • Vol. 2—"Revolution"; issues #3-5: Zoran is a ruthless Atlantean militant who, disillusioned with the peace that Atlantis has struck with the surface world, attempts to wage war to conquer both land and sea. Zoran and his zealous loyalists slaughter many of their own Atlanteans, while Zoran masterminds terrorist attacks on the surface, having an entire town massacred and later trying to suffocate thousands more people in Seattle. Zoran's primary architect in these attacks is Namor's estranged son, Kamar, whose mind Zoran has been poisoning with lies for decades.
  • Disaster: Day of Crisis: Major Evans is Colonel Haynes's traitorous, thrill-seeking second-in-command. Joining Haynes's mission just to have fun being in natural disasters, Evans takes part in stealing nuclear warheads and unleashing earthquakes and tsunamis on the populated Blue Ridge City for fun. Killing his hostage Professor Davis when he tries to escape, Evans eventually betrays Haynes when he calls off the mission. With the final nuke in his disposal, Evans hopes to either use it to threaten the government again, or activate it and kill loads of people to alleviate his boredom, while planning to continue spreading natural disasters across the country so his fun won't ever end.
  • Starsiege: Prometheus is a malevolent, sapient AI who is the leader and creator of the Cybrids. During an experiment in which IT linked with the mind of ITs own creator, Prometheus came to the conclusion that humans are mere animals deserving extermination. Prometheus pushed the Cybrids into a series of apocalyptic wars against humanity, ravaging Earth's ecosystem, in hope to replace them with ITs own "perfect" children. During an unprecedented campaign of genocide, the Cybrid army under Prometheus's command commits many atrocities, such as strapping living humans—including children—to the hulls of their war platforms, using them as human shields; pumping them with pain-inducing drugs to make them scream; infecting small animals with nanoplagues to exploit human empathy against them; and maiming their victims in most brutal ways. When some of the Cybrids, called Metagens, defied the Core Directive for a more pragmatic solution of exploring stars instead of wasting resources in a pointless war against mankind, Prometheus declared them "bugthinkers" and ordered their elimination.
  • Thing-Thing series: The CEO—real name unknown—is the director of Systems Corp., a corporation that creates Super Soldiers and other bioweapons, subjecting its projects to inhumane experiments and tormenting them until they become mindless killers. Running Systems Corp. with an iron fist, and treating his employees abysmally, the CEO's callousness is further illustrated by a poster threatening to punish slacking with electrocution, not to mention his cavalier attitude towards sending his employees to their demises. When the behavioral modification treatment backfires on protagonist Project 154—turning him into a vengeance-thirsty, sociopathic mass murderer—the CEO sends many waves of his employees after 154. Upon 154's arrival at his office, the CEO casually comments via monitor that despite all of 154's efforts, he is just an expendable clone. Subsequently removing the latter's Healing Factor and sending more subordinates to kill 154, the CEO intends to rework 154's genetics and profit off the results.
  • The Well Speaks To Me series:
    • They Watch From The Walls: Mr. Pumpkin is a creepy man with a pumpkin mask, who lures children to his Haunted House, forcing them to play through his nightmarish "games" and observing them, to "punish cheaters". Children are often badly wounded or killed during his games, and the survivors are captured, ready to be sold to anyone who pays. Having several people vivisected and mutilated in one of his rooms, Mr. Pumpkin imprisoned his latest victim, protagonist Carrie, revealing to her his scheme and showing her that he left one of the children to bleed to death as a "punishment for cheating".
    • Like Veins Beneath The Town: The Suturer is a demon-worshipping human who desires to transcend humanity and become a demon himself. To this end, the Suturer abducts the women of Ishinakku Village and bludgeons them to death, offering their fresh corpses as sacrifices to the Forest. The Suturer also removes parts of their bodies to attach to his own and uses more to create twisted dolls, believing himself to be creating art. Having already done this to 22 women, when protagonist Dr. Jesse Thornheart comes to apprehend him, the Suturer tries to kill Jesse and turn him into another sacrifice.
  • Daken: Dark Wolverine's issue #5—"Empire, Act 2: Part 2": Petrus is a minor agent of Tyger Tiger's who nonetheless establishes a heinous operation for himself. In Tyger's absence from her main base, Petrus converts three entire floors of the headquarters into a brothel that specializes in trafficking dozens of enslaved children—as young as 10—to wealthy perverts. Not content with merely the sex work of children, Petrus even sells them to the Weapon X program, knowingly sending the kids to be vivisected and butchered by the monstrous Director's scientists so Petrus can line his pockets.

[up] Well, Witold mostly targets like girls 16-17, and he only has 3. I don't think he killed anymore actually. I rewatched an episode, and he only has a girl he killed in the beggining, and the one he killed in a city he went to college to. Those two cases are only ones mentioned. Unlike in case here where MANY girls are listed missing throughout the many years. Third one got saved (one he was kidnapping in the end of the episode). I feel he was on the way of becoming a CM, but... not high enough bodycount.

Edit: Tadeusz goes on the very top.

Sure to emp's, racist Fu Manchu and a big one to Loki, sounds a hilariously vile chap and great work finding! Yes to the Old Monk too and good job re-evaluating G!

Ordeaux the writeup's fine, please don't encourage padding so an arbitrary length can be achieved, we'll end up with entries that don't even talk about the trope then.

Also yeah, cut the suggestion, doesn't sound like they're measuring up.
