In Metropolis, a homeless man named Konrad Glumm seeks refuge in an abandoned public library in order to keep warm even though entering the building is against the law. He finds Superman's costume in a cardboard box and tries it on. A security trooper sees Konrad on the monitor and attempts to kill him with his vaporizer but the Kryptonian fabric of the costume protects him. When he leaves the library, Konrad causes a sensation as he encourages the people, who believe him to be the real Superman who had returned in accordance with the legends, to resist. The troopers eventually realize that Konrad can be killed if they fire their vaporizers at his exposed head and hands. Although he is reduced to dust, the people are inspired to stand up against their oppressors. When democracy returned to the American Republic years later, the Metropolis Christmas Rebellion of 2491 came to be regarded as the beginning of the Second American Revolution. (DC Comics)

This would become the first attempt by Earth at interstellar travel in nearly eight centuries. After many attempts through negotiation with the Community of Planets to have price controls and tariffs relaxed, Argon trader Moo-Kye founds the Yaki* , and they begin to build a secret smuggling empire in deep space between Split and Teladi territory.   • USC Major Kyle William Brennan takes command of the Terran jumpship prototype, the Xperimental Shuttle. During the jump test, the jumpdrive locks onto the X-Universe gate system and goes haywire, stranding him in Teladi space. He soon aligns himself with the Argon and helps them to destroy a planet-killer developed by the Xenon. This war becomes known as the Second Xenon Conflict. Soon a Kha'ak planet killer arrives and destroys the Argon sector President's End, including one of its gates. They then attack Omicron Lyrae. Terracorp joins the fight against the Kha'ak, and Julian Gardna's wingman rams the Kha'ak planet killer, destroying it and granting victory to the Argon. (X2: The Threat)

  • The Kha'ak war continues with the Argon military suffering heavy losses. Julian Gardna is contacted by the Argon Secret Service and asked to train new pilots. Gardna stumbles on a series of clues that lead to the secrets of jumpgate construction. Meanwhile the Paranid have been contacted by the Sohnen and asked to build a jumpgate in the sector Heretic's End. Upon completion the gate locks onto an unknown system. The Kha'ak arrive in Heretic's End to destroy the gate, but an enormous Terran warfleet streams out of the gate and flattens them. Earth has been reunited with the X-Universe. (X3: Reunion)

  • Over the past three years the Terrans have been making diplomatic forays, but despite their superior military technologies remain cautious almost to the point of xenophobia. They are suspicious of the Argon in particular, that they may be reverse-engineering the Xenon trying to create tame artificial general intelligence. For their part the Community of Planets fears the United Space Command's military strength and advanced technologies. The tensions eventually result in a cold war known as the Terran Conflict. Using special jump beacons, a small force of Xenon fighters enters the Sol System and is destroyed by the United Space Command. During the battle, a drone steals information from a Terran station and delivers it to an Argon ship near Pluto, which escapes with a jumpdrive. An unnamed USC pilot is tasked to investigate, leading to the rediscovery of the Terrans' long-lost Aldrin colony. Later that year, among other things the USC pilot helps the privately funded space force Operation Final Fury to destroy the last Kha'ak hive in Commonwealth space, aids the Goner in the construction of the Temple in Elysium of Light, and discovers the Hub, an ancient structure capable of inserting itself between up to three pairs of jumpgates.   • The Terrans refuse to join the Community of Planets and deploy a network of spies into the Argon Federation. This network is eventually discovered, and relations between the human powers sour further. (X-Universe)

  • Under their anti-AGI legislation, the Terrans deploy a fleet to the Argon border. Knowing they cannot defeat the Terrans in a direct confrontation, the Argon begin developing artificially intelligent warships to counter the Terrans' edge in starship technology.   • Saya Kho detonates a nuclear bomb on the Torus Aeternal, a massive station ringing Earth's equator that serves as a shipyard, docking ring, and orbital defense station. The bomb breaks the Torus, killing thousands of Terran civilians and military personnel instantly and causing millions of tons of debris to rain down on Earth. The Terrans launch an all-out assault on the Community of Planets. The Paranid Empire is so horrified by the actions of the Argon that it sides with the Terrans. The Terrans' Aldrin colony sides with the Argon over the Terrans' AGI paranoia, since the Aldrinites rely on tame terraformers to keep their society running. Due in part to the chokepoints created by the jumpgate system, the war stays deadlocked at the Argon/Terran border for over a year, with the various mega corps vying for power in the background.   • With military patrol forces diverted to the war, the Xenon surge into the X-Universe, rapidly taking over multiple sectors. The Ancients collectively say "fuck it" and shut down the X-Universe loop of the gate network as a firebreak. It stays that way for over a thousand years. (X-Universe)

  • Governor Deregon of the Australian Region, who is secretly an agent of the Dark Circle, attempts to use a cosmic energy sphere to wipe out half of Earth's population. It is the Dark Circle's hope that this will trigger World War VII and the survivors will be killed in the conflict. However, Chemical King, a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, sacrifices his life to ensure that the energy sphere collapses in on itself. (DC Comics)
