Adventurer Teams

This section covers named adventuring teams that appear throughout the story.

    Horns of Hammerad
Formerly a Silver-ranked group of Adventurers active in Izril led by Calruz, they are now a Gold-ranked team led by Ceria by killing an Adult Creler and earning them the title “Hell’s Wardens”. Their current members are Ceria, Yvlon, Pisces, and Ksmvr.

Chapters covering them are sometimes marked by an "H".

Tropes applying to the team in general:

  • An Arm and a Leg: Calruz, Ceria, Ksmvr, and Yvlon all have some level of arm loss.
  • Broken Ace: They're wracked with guilt and anger over their failures, but their struggles have gotten them to Gold Rank and earned them the title of Hell's Wardens.
  • Chariot Pulled by Undead Bears: The Horns default transportation for a while was a wagon pulled by undead bears. They later upgraded to a bone chariot pulled by undead horses.
  • Convicted by Public Opinion: Local Adventurers (in Celum at least) blamed Ceria and Yvlon for the Skinner disaster, and hated that they've been so apparently successful since then. Becomes a case of hypocrisy, as many of them run and abandon teammates during the Creler Battle.
  • Creepy Good: Pisces is a [Necromancer], Ksmvr is a giant ant, Yvlon can giggle through her arm being chopped off, and Ceria has a Skeletal Appendage.
  • Evil Former Friend: Calruz was the original leader who suffered Sanity Slippage after being left for dead in the dungeon.
  • Famed In-Story: After Wistram broadcasted them leading the raid on the Village of the Dead, they've become Household Names. Taken even further with Ksmvr, who becomes the subject of a documentary by Remi Canada.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Ceria and Pisces were estranged former friends, Yvlon distrusted the [Necromancer] on principle, and Ksmvr was an Antinium exile. After nearly dying in Albez together, they became significantly closer.
    • While certainly friendly to begin with, Colth only really begins to open up to the Horns after he and Yvlon decide to run through a gauntlet of deathtraps... while punching each other.
  • The Food Poisoning Incident: All of them except for Yvlon went through this with eggs.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: A large point of drama over Calruz's imprisonment and possible execution is whether he was actually driven insane, or under the influence of some form of magic from the Dungeon.
  • Mook Horror Show: The Horns slaughtered more than six full slaveships of Roshal, much of which was written from the perspective of said [Slavers].
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The Horns successfully found a massive haul of loot in Albez and promptly lost nearly all of it because they failed to check for traps at the very end, in part because Ceria and Pisces were fighting over a very magical staff. Subverted for Yvlon because she was incapacitated at the time and had no part in the otherwise collective failure. Also applies to the Horns gaining Tolve as an enemy and unleashing him on the world because they accidentally broke a stasis field.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Rivals!: Subverted. The Horns, like many an adventuring team, nearly split apart over the division of loot that Ryoka brought them from Hedault post-Albez. They pulled together out a sense of shame after Ksmvr forewent 'individually fair' loot division in favor of a division that made the team as a unit as strong as possible.
    • The original catalyst for this was Ksmvr refusing a shield that Yvlon wanted but felt that it would be unfair for her to take the shield and the sword—two power items. Several volumes later she gives the shield to him anyway to focus on using her sword two-handed instead of fighting sword-and-board style.
  • Party Scattering: During Volume 8, they're separated across the continent of Chandrar.
    • At the end of Volume 9, they're spread out across (and under) the sea , as well as on at least two continents.
  • Persona Non Grata: From Celum after an incident involving beating up their entire Adventurer's Guild, (falsely) threatening to start another Antinium War, and stacking 29 disembodied bandit heads on a Receptionist's desk. Interestingly enough as twist of irony, Pisces says this trope word-for-word about his status in Liscor before this incident. This is also where all four of them start out when they first form their team.
  • Promotion, Not Punishment: An addled Pisces and Ceria's first reaction at their promotion ceremony was them thinking that they were being demoted to Bronze-Rank.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: A half-Elf who offends Erin's idea of what Elves are, a [Necromancer], an Antinium, a half-metal berserker who thinks she's the Only Sane Woman, an obsessively helpful man working for the Demons, and a passively suicidal member of a long-extinct species.
  • Sacrificial Lion: The original Horns, as well as all the other Silver-Ranks going into the Crypt in Volume One.
  • Slavery Is a Special Kind of Evil: Both Pisces and Colth are escaped [Slaves]. After Erin was briefly captured, they decide to wage literal war on Roshal.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Invoked to various degrees until after the Horns fight a cave of Crelers on a mission that was just suppose to be fighting bears. After this point, Ceria and Pisces have finished burying their hatchet, Ksmvr has been fully accepted as not being a monster, and Yvlon accepts Pisces as the one [Necromancer] she can abide.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: Several attempts at sacrificing themselves so the other's can run are made in the battle against an Adult Creler. None of them are willing to abandon the others though.

Ceria Springwalker, [Elementalist] > [Cryomancer] > [Arctic Cryomancer]; [Prankster]

Ceria is a female half-Elf who was expelled from Wistram alongside Pisces. She was one of two survivors of the original Horns of Hammerad, and became the leader once they were reformed.

  • Amplifier Artifact: The Putrid One's Circlet increases her intelligence and mana, but suppresses her sense of morality.
    • This possibly graduates to a full-on Artifact of Doom once Ceria realizes that it is actually somewhat sentient. It can subtly affect her emotions, withold its magical power, and even hops off of her head to abandon her when it looks like she's about to be killed.
    • Being a Combat Pragmatist, though, she realizes that a sentient artifact can be threatened in order to get even more power out of it.
  • Can't Default to Murder: Has to invoke this when confronting Ressa over Ryoka when Ksmvr jumps to threats of murder.
  • Combat Pragmatist: She is able and willing to use anything at her disposal in a fight. In a duel with a formally trained, Gold-ranked Wistram graduate, she shocked him by attacking with a mundane dagger and her own teeth to throw him off guard.
  • Extreme Omnivore: While she enjoys "normal" food, she also happy to eat bugs, raw animals, etc. It says a lot that some fellow Adventurers seriously think her Skeletal Arm is from Autocannibalism.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Upon realizing that her Cursed Circlet is sentient and is intentionally influencing her, she deduces that it also must has a sense of self-preservation, and starts threatening it to make it do more to help.
  • An Ice Person: Being a [Cryomancer], her spells are mostly ice-related, and favor area control and defenses over straight damage. She can still cast the [Fireball] spell, but it's noticeably weaker than it used to be.
  • The Leader: She takes over the Horns' reformed party as their new captain, although she acts more as the party's representative than someone actually giving out orders most of the time what with everyone being more like buddies-in-arms and tending to go off doing their own thing, especially when they reach Gold Rank.
  • Mind Meld: She and Pisces manage to create a Frostmarrow Behemoth by combining their magic.
  • Older Than They Look: Although Ceria looks to be in her 20s, she actually is 60. Her half-elven blood means she ages about three times slower—and more gracefully—than humans.
  • Spell Book: She was left one by her Eccentric Mentor in case they died in their attempt to fight Cognita, but another student's Fantastic Racism against Half-Elves meant it was thrown into the sea instead, stunting her magical growth.
  • Training from Hell: The best method to improve Ceria's ice magic according to Grimalkin? Have her teammates boil her alive. Much to Ceria's dismay, this is not better than her old master's form of training: walking into blizzards naked.

Pisces Jealnet, [Necromancer] > [Deathbane Necromancer]; [Mage] > [Duelist of Wistram]

Pisces is a male Human from Terandria who was expelled from Wistram alongside Ceria. He joined the reformed Horns of Hammerad after helping to rescue Ceria from the Crypt.

  • Bastard Understudy: As of Volume Pisces is secretly a student to the Necromancer, Az'kerash.
  • Changed My Mind, Kid: Despite his [Flashstep] spell making him one of the few able to successfully run from the Adult Creler Battle, he ends up charging back anyways.
  • Fake Aristocrat: He is the son of a retainer to a member of Terrandrian nobility, but intentionally hid his last name and acted snobbish to hide his origins. His rapier adds to the image.
  • Flash Step: One of Pisces' signature moves.
  • Fingore: Explodes a few of his fingers when experimenting with casting a spell. Only his own ability to manipulate bones and the quick application a healing potion saved him from joining the rest of the team in having a notable arm or hand injury.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Starts off his introduction in the story by trying to terrorize Erin and steal from her.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Pisces often gives good advice; he's just insufferable about it most of the time.
  • Made a Slave: After the Village of the Dead raid, he's taken captive by a traveling caravan of [Slavers] from Roshal after the Party Scattering. Slavery Is a Special Kind of Evil is in full effect here.
  • Mind Meld: He and Ceria manage to create a Frostmarrow Behemoth by combining their magic.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: Pisces starts the story holding people at a distance and has few to no positive expectations of other people, in part in order to prevent them from being able to betray his feelings.
  • Non-Human Undead: As Pisces gains levels he starts using his bear bones to make Bone Horrors. He's also upgraded his stash of bones to include Gargoyle bones.
    • Taken to the logical extreme in Volume 9, when he becomes able to "reanimate" decayed structures, such as turning a sinking ship into a Ghost Ship.
  • Perpetual-Motion Monster: All of Pisces' undead, but this is one of the main reasons the Horns use undead bears and, later, undead horses to pull their wagon/chariot around, up to and including at least one instance in Invrisil where they rented a wagon and specifically had the living horses unhitched and left behind. Subverted only insomuch as Pisces' undead only keep going for as long as he can keep supplying them with mana since he doesn't 'turn loose' his undead to run on death mana, but skeletons are a low enough tier of undead that at Pisces' level he can power a small number of them effectively indefinitely.
  • Psychic Nosebleed: Summoning a Bone Behemoth at only Level 30 results in this, as well as Tears of Blood, and Coughing Up Blood.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: Pisces generally speaks like this in an effort to sound smarter. So far, Olesm and Numbtongue are eloquent enough to keep up with him.
  • Selective Obliviousness: Will pretend to not be aware of just how much other people are watching him or taking issue with his existence as a [Necromancer].
  • Takes One to Kill One: Of the “Heroic Menace vs. Evil Menace” variety. As a [Necromancer], he can kill most mundane undead with a snap of his fingers, and knows niche spells that are highly effective against undead.
  • Team Chef: Rarely comes up but Pisces does know how to cook.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Started becoming slightly nicer after taking Erin's advice to not sink to people's expectations of him, even if he was initially only doing it out of spite of other people's judgement of him and to build himself up as the morally superior person.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: In Wistram days he was a Chick Magnet, magic prodigy, master fencer, and all-around Nice Guy. When his skill in necromancy was revealed, he was shunned by everyone, his scholarship revoked, his possessions torched. After months of living as a social pariah, his desperate attempt to accomplish something before being kicked out of Wistram led to sixty people dying and him being expelled. By the time the story begins, his experiences have transformed him into a snide Jerkass.
  • Walking Ossuary: His Bone Horrors, which are custom-designed for increased efficiency.
  • Wine Is Classy: His alcoholic beverage of choice.

Ksmvr, [Brave Skirmisher], [Teammate], [Dancer], [Animal Friend], [Tree Collector]

Ksmvr was an Antinium Prognugator of Liscor's Hive until he was exiled after a battle that cost him one of his four arms. Since then, he adventures as one of the Horns.

  • Bow and Sword in Accord: While fond of Dual Wielding swords, his four arms and Bag of Holding means that he can also use several crossbows to great effect as well.

  • Commonality Connection: While initially annoyed at Vofea's attempt to join the Horns unprompted, he quickly changes his mind and starts looking out for her as a "Junior Member" once he realizes she's a Fish out of Water who intends to perform a Heroic Sacrifice. He doesn't seem to understand the parallels, and it's Played for Laughs how stupid he finds her attitude.

  • Cool Sword: He looted the Paladin's blade from the Village of the Dead raid. It's an Absurdly Sharp Blade that glows and is considered Relic-class. Becomes a bit Awesome, but Impractical that he hands it over to Nsiia as his fighting style is better suited to Dual Wielding.

  • The Exile: Ksmvr was banished from the Hive of Free Antinium just as the team was reforming, leading to him joining it at the last minute.

  • Forced to Watch: Tolve invokes this against Ksmvr during the Village of the Dead Raid because he recognizes that taking out Ksmvr's teammates is the best way to hurt him.

  • Fragile Speedster: His Ring of Jumping, movement Skills, and variety of weapons make him very mobile, but he's still the lowest leveled in the team by a wide margin.

  • Heel–Face Turn: Knocks Erin out during his first meeting with her, takes Pawn by force to torture him, repeatedly breaks the Hive's treaty with Liscor both to try and kidnap Erin and leaving Liscor to be destroyed by undead. Taking a fist to the face humbles him enough to start trying to apologize to some notable Liscorian citizens but he still sees himself as too important to go help rescue Ceria from the Crypt. Possibly only helps fight the Goblin raiding party due to his stated reason of being 'bound to protect Liscor' rather than any personal heroism. It takes him multiple volumes to realize that he actually needs to apologize to Pawn rather than rug-sweeping their history.

  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: As the lowest-level member of the team, he’s quick to refer to himself as a burden.

  • I Can Still Fight!: Asserts this to Ceria when she's concerned that his just-severed arm makes him unfit to fight. Continues adventuring for about a year like that until Xrn approves resources to regrow his arm.

  • Inadequate Inheritor: Klbkch sees Ksmvr as this in regard to the Silver Illusion Skill School.

  • Ironic Nickname: He becomes known as 'Ksmvr of Chandrar' despite not having been born on or spent significant time on Chandrar.

  • Monster Adventurers: Antinium are near-universally despised, and seen as unthinking, unfeeling drones of a species seemingly created in Hell. Ksmvr just wants to help his friends.

  • Mook Horror Show: Ksmvr's fight with a bandit group has him setting people on fire, (seemingly) raising some of their dead, and ignoring pleas for surrender as he systematically kills them from the shadows.

  • Multiarmed Multitasking: Notable because, unlike most Antinium, Ksmvr can use all four of his arms independently of each other.

  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Ksmvr studied Mrsha and Erin to learn how to exaggerate his naivete to put people off guard.

  • Selective Obliviousness: Starts doing this from volume 1 when he ignores his own negative feelings about pulling out of the defense of Liscor. Returns to this at times when he wants to do something that the other Horns don't approve of, like running ahead of the front line during the Village of the Dead raid or continuing to level [Tree Collector].

  • Square Race, Round Class: Ksmvr has levels in [Dancer], [Animal Friend], and [Tree Collector]. Most people still fear and/or hate him on sight for his species.

  • Sucksessor: Ksmvr was this to Klbkch before getting exiled.

  • Took a Level in Kindness: From torturing Pawn and abandoning Liscor to a hoard of undead to being willing to die for his team and gaining the [Teammate] and [Animal Friend] classes. Also went from being unwilling to help Octavia after being begged for assistance because it might have caused him trouble with Celum's City Watch to rescuing Nsiia despite the risks of bringing entire countries down on himself.

  • Trademark Favorite Food: He eats so much bread his teammates started to worry about his health. He spent a while eating almost nothing but sandwiches and he's also eaten raw bread dough.

  • Undying Loyalty: Ksmvr often states that the team is his only reason for living since his exile from his hive.
    • Played for laughs when he actually gets offended when someone implies that Pisces wouldn't reanimate his corpse if he fell battle.

  • Walking Armory: He is the Horns' dumping ground for weapons and he claims to be 'competent' with nearly every common weapon used on any of the world's five continents. He has his twin shortswords, a dagger, a bow, ten crossbows, several throwable jars of acid, two bear traps, and if all that fails he has a Skill for barehanded fighting.

  • What the Hell, Hero?: Ksmvr comes from the Antinium school of escalation and is very quick to threaten murder or war. He later shifts to 'establishing dominance' instead but his teammates would like for him to keep toning it down.

  • Younger Than They Look: Ksmvr, as a fully grown Antinium, is actually only three years old.

Yvlon Byres, [Silversteel Armsmistress], [Dreamer]

Yvlon is a female Human from northern Izril who joined the Horns of Hammerad after her team, The Silver Spears, were killed in the Crypt under her leadership.

  • The Berserker: Gains [Berserker's Rage] as a Red Skill. Considering a corrupt official had recently framed her for killing a lot of people, her guards and fellow prisoners tend to treat her like a rabid monster.
  • Chainmail Bikini: She typically wears full plat, but this is the starting armor of all new female [Gladiators] in Chandrar, much to her annoyance.
  • Chrome Champion: Her mutilated arms were replaced with her family's iconic silver-alloyed steel after she became a [Silversteel Armsmistress]. She can shift them into armored gauntlets, serrated blades, or normally-proportioned arms, and they greatly increase her strength.
  • Cool Big Sis: Yvlon has taken this role with Ksmvr, often guiding him through social situations, and training with him in melee combat.
  • Cursed with Awesome: She’s very self conscious of her new arms, as she feels like her new strength isn’t earned, or she’s becoming more golem than human
  • Determinator: She refused to give up adventuring despite debilitating injuries.
  • Feel No Pain: After becoming a [Wounded Warrior], Yvlon gained immunity to pain.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Growing up, she was never as good as her older siblings, but her parents still lavished her with praise. Because of this, she feels like many of her accomplishments are unearned.
  • I Can Still Fight!: Even with her [Ignore Pain] Skill Yvlon pushes on through infections and having an arm torn off. She only wavers when she wakes up post-Creler fight thinking that both of her arms were torn off.
  • Iron Butt Monkey: Immune to pain but takes more debilitating wounds by far than any of her teammates (and arguably any other adventurer) having lost 3 out of 4 of her original limbs.
  • Laughing Mad: During the Adult Creler fight, she giggled after one of her arms was cut off.
  • Mystical Plague: She gains the hidden Skill [Plaguesteel (Minor)] after fighting the Putrid One, which infects and corrodes any piece of metal her metallic arm comes into contact with.
  • Non-Idle Rich: Later applies to the whole team but Yvlon was born into a noble household, even if a 'poor' one.
  • Shout-Out: In Volume 8, she briefly becomes the protagonist of the infamous Skyrim opening scene almost word for word.
  • Skeletal Appendage: Yvlon's injured arms were heavily reinforced with bear bones after her injury in Albez.
  • Successful Sibling Syndrome: Her older sister is a successful merchant (albeit one who's orientation places her as a Black Sheep), and her older brother is the leader of the well-known Gold-rank team that she named her original team after. Her parent's still doted on her accomplishments, but she never felt she deserved their praise.
  • The Teetotaler: She didn't like to drink even before gaining her rage Skill and needing to be mindful to keep control. Unusual in a world where even Erin's inn, which is not known for its alcohol, will serve a 'weak breakfast ale'.
  • Walk, Don't Swim: After getting thrown into the open ocean with weights in Volume 9, Ksmvr managed to put a Ring of Waterbreathing on her, leading to her walking along the seafloor.

Colthei the Supporter, [Ultimate Supporter]

Colthei (or Colth) is a male Human who's in his thirties, and was already an accomplished Named Rank before joining the Horns. He was sent by his Demon contacts to watch over Pisces.

  • Older Sidekick: Being a [Supporter], Colth is strongest when he's helping others, and so tends to act as a More Senior Subordinate to the team.
  • Made a Slave: He once killed a [Slaver] in self-defense. Roshal's influence meant he was then enslaved and eventually turned into one of the Naga's top killers.
  • More than Mind Control: The Naga used a variety of methods to alter his mind. Years later, he's still terrified that he'll wake up and realize it was all just another series of false memories.
  • Slasher Smile: While generally extremely friendly, his smile takes on a deranged appearance whenever fighting challenging monsters or killing Slavers. This earned him the epithet: Colth of the Demonic Smile.
  • Verbal Tic: He tends to refer to whoever he's working with as "boss". This is not from his time as a Slave, but actually a form of rebellion against it: The Naga hated being called terms like that.

Vofea, no Class

Vofea is a Satyr refugee who fled to Avalon as a child over ten thousand year ago. She spent her time there as a lesser member of the Court, before returning to fulfill a childhood promise.

  • Exact Words: Nowhere in her fate was it said that she'd die soon if she returned, only that she'd die. Since she (assumably) gave up her immortality by leaving Avalon, she could very well end up dying of old age and still fulfill the exact words of her fate.
  • Fish out of Water: Being raised in Avalon has left her a bit confused about mortal concepts like not being able to see your own immediate future.
  • I Gave My Word: She admits that she could break her promise to the Fairy King with no real consequences, but refuses to do so because then she would no longer be the same person who made it.
  • Martyr Without a Cause: She knew her fate upon returning to the mortal world would be a Heroic Sacrifice, and doesn't understand why the Horns are so against it. She attempted to sacrifice herself several times now, and is frankly baffled as to why she's survived this long.
  • Older Than They Look: She's over ten thousand year old, but the nature of time in Avalon means that she didn't experience it like other realities would.
  • Suffer the Slings: Her primary weapon is a sling.
  • True Sight: She's able to see through Bogram's illusions, as well as perfectly spot distant figures in a storm.

    Halfseekers
A Gold-rank team who worked primarily in the north of Izril. They spent a number of months around Liscor and are now focusing their work on the south of Izril, largely based out of The Wandering Inn and Pallass.

Tropes applying to the team in general:

Jelaqua Ivirith, [Steelforged Whirlwind], [Lover]

Moore, [Bloodearth Mage]

Seborn Sailwinds, [Depth Rogue], [Faith Seeker]

Ulinde, [Spellslinger]

    Griffon Hunt
A Gold-rank team mostly active in north Izril. They and the Halfseekers were the first Gold-rank teams to challenge Liscor's dungeon after it was uncovered.

Tropes applying to the team in general:

Halrac Everam, [Veteran Scout] > [Bowman of Loss] > [Knight-Archer of Lost Flames]

  • Earn Your Title: Originally dubbed 'Halrac the Grim' by Todi as a joke, the name stuck and even people in Liscor know him by that title, despite even Selys (who works at the Adventurer's Guild) knowing few Humans by name or title.

Typhenous, [Rogue Mage], [Knifefighter], [Underworld Survivor]

Revi, [Summoner]

Briganda Rishaw, [Shieldmaiden]

    Silver Swords
A Gold-rank team well known in north Izril. They traveled down to Liscor in search of Ylawes' younger sister, Yvlon. After aiding in the defeat of Facestealer, the Silver Swords absorbed the Silver-rank team Vuliel Drae and the Bronze-rank adventurers Infinitypear and Rasktooth, all of whom had helped in the final battle against Facestealer.

Tropes applying to the team in general:

Ylawes Byres, [Knight] > [Knight-Seeker of the Silver Dragon]

The Human captain of the Silver Swords. Though stubborn in his beliefs, his heart is in the right place for the most part.
  • Ideal Hero: He might not be the most ideal example given his stubbornness and prejudices against what society deems evil, like Goblins and [Necromancers], he is particularly known for his heroism, such as him leading the defense of Esthelm against the overwhelming Goblin Lord's army. A crowning example is him taking on Facestealer when it breaks out of Liscor's dungeon in Interlude - Adventurers (Pt. 3); despite being clearly underleveled for the threat, barely survived getting thrown into the city, and other adventurers understandably wanting to stay back where the Named-ranks failed, he did it simply because it was right.
Nevermind that reinforcements might be coming. Ylawes did not go for that. He did not go in hopes of inspiring or for the glory or levels. He went because he had to.

Falene Skystrall, [Battlemage]

Dawil Ironbreaker, [Axe Champion]

Anith, [Mage]

Dasha, [Axe Fighter], [Baker]

Insill, [Pitfall Trapmaster Saboteur]

Larr, [Archer]

Pekona, [Blade Dancer]

Infinitypear, [Horrorbane Adventurer]

Rasktooth, [Adventurer], [Cook]

    Redfang Goblins
A Bronze-rank team based out of the Wandering Inn, they are the first adventuring team comprised entirely of Goblins. Prior to the formation of their team, Garen Redfang had been the world's only Goblin adventurer.

Tropes applying to the team in general:

  • Monster Adventurers: Hobgoblins are officially classified as Silver-rank monsters by the Adventurer's Guild.

Headscratcher, [Berserker]

Shorthilt, [Weapon Expert]

Badarrow, [Mountainrange Sniper]

Rabbiteater, [Indomitable Champion], [Knight of the Dawn]

Numbtongue, [Goblin Soulbard], [Miner], [Gambler]

    Flamewardens
A Gold-rank team from Pallass. All of their members are Oldblood Drakes who have a breath weapon. Four members of the team have been mentioned, although only two have had their names mentioned within the story.

Tropes applying to the team in general:

  • Blessed with Suck: The general state of Drakes with a breath attack. The Flamewardens offset the downside of being unable to breath after using their elemental attacks too much with a magical jar of air.

Keldrass

Nautia

    Wings of Pallass
A Gold-rank team from Pallass. All of their members are capable of flying. They currently have nine active members, although only three that have been named within the story.

Tropes applying to the team in general:

  • Fantastic Racism: Due to bigotry, team leader Bevussa pretends to not be the leader when in their home city of Pallass and instead plays the role of a diversity hire.

Bevussa Slenderscale

Issa

Kin

    Todi's Elites
A Gold-rank team formerly of Invrisil, now employed by Selys to protect The Wandering Inn. They are a revolving-door team where members are free to join on for as little as a single mission before leaving. The only permanent team-member is leader and team founder Todi.

Tropes applying to the team in general:

Todi

    Arcsinger's Bows
A Gold-rank team. Unusual in that nearly all of their members are hired and are payed a salary rather than just getting a share of loot and mission earnings. They're known for killing Goblins wherever they go.

Tropes applying to the team in general:

Elia Arcsinger, [Nemesis of Goblins, Ranger of Renown]

Capoinelia Arcsinger, [Markswoman]

Angest

Lilntas

Anwyne

Iloid

    Stargazer's Promise
A Named-rank team. Most of their fame and power comes from their team leader being in possession of a Relic-class weapon, the Blade of Mershi.

Tropes applying to the team in general:

Lehra Ruinstrider, [Magical Knight-Seeker of Mershi]

  • Earn Your Title: The Stargnoll.
  • Strong, but Unskilled: Justified since she was just a Silver-rank until she suddenly found herself chosen by the Blade of Mershi during its uncovering, giving her a tool that makes up for her glaring cockiness and inexperience. This comes to bite her in 8.67, during the defense of the Meeting of Tribes against the Walled Cities' armies, where she tries to solo a [General] on her own only to find her skills coming up short, and Feshi having to rally Adetr to her rescue.
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: Wielder of the Blade of Mershi, which despite its name, can transform into any weapon.

Suxhel, [Wizard]

Emper, [Monk]

Elgrinna Geostrand, [Axe Thrower]

    Shield of Tenbault
A Named-rank team on a long-term contract to protect the Healer of Tenbault. They have around twenty members but only one that has been named within the story.

Tropes applying to the team in general:

Merdon

    Named Adventurers
This section covers Named-rank adventurers, who are all generally agreed to be One Man Armies in the world of adventuring. Therefore, only individuals will be covered here.

Unlike other adventurers, who may stick to a general area or wander wherever there's work to be had, Named-rank adventurers are courted by cities and kingdoms if they do not already have a specific place that holds their loyalty.

Gazi Pathseeker, [War Scout], [Silent Commander], [Mage]

Loyalty: Flos Reimarch

A Gazer exploring Izril until she met Erin Solstice in Liscor. Taking an interest in her, she attempted to kidnap her in a bid to awaken her king, Flos Reimarch, but was foiled and forced to flee to Reim. Since then, she devotes her work to Reim.
See her section in the Chandrar page.

Saliss Oliwing, [Alchemist]

Loyalty: City of Pallass

  • Alchemy Is Magic: He is one of the best [Alchemists] on the Drake side of Izril, specializing in combat by throwing around Magic Potions with wildly varying effects, as well as completely transforming his body for battle.
  • Alternate Identity Amnesia: Though Saliss is able to become his female Drake cousin named Onieva Oliwing through the Faerie Flowers, it's later revealed that this comes at the cost of him not remembering what he did as Onieva, making Saliss and Onieva separate individuals in practice rather than Saliss transforming into what he wanted. It did not at all settle well when Saliss and Mirn hear it from Shaestrel.
  • Because It Amused Me: He gets a kick out of annoying people with his antics, especially those that he doesn't like, such as Chaldion and Zeter.
  • Broken Ace: For all the achievements he has as a Named Adventurer, he has many, many things to protest about Drake society, let alone the issues he wants fixed: that he's a Turnscale and wants better treatment for them as a whole; that the Drakes squabble amongst themselves and he finds it pathetic even though he serves in their military operations; and that his grandfather, Chaldion, could pass away anytime and leave Saliss forced into taking up the role of protector of all Drakes, not helped by there being few Drake heroes left after Reiss and Az'kerash's actions.
  • Earn Your Title: Saliss of Lights.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: Saliss is infamous for being a nudist. The only few times he does cover his crotch is when he's doing it out of respect to someone (like Erin giving him a tiny box to wear as a joke) or the situation isn't a time for joking around. The throwaway line where he tells Erin it's his way of rebelling against society is actually foreshadowing him being a Turnscale, specifically his gender dysphoria.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: However carefree he acts, there's a kind method to his madness. It's because of this that Erin recognizes that he's a fellow person who believes in doing good without reward.
    • When Octavia begs to be his apprentice and resorts to offering sexual favors, he drops his easygoing façade to make it clear she shouldn't have to do that.
    • Though Tyrion Veltras is an enemy of Drakekind, thus making him Saliss's enemy, he still decided to deliver the cure for his poisoned sons.
  • Secret Identity: By changing his body through Alchemy, Saliss can pretend to be 'his' imaginary cousin, Onieva Oliwing, whose gender she identifies with. Onieva then becomes a full-blown Split Personality after drinking a potion made using Faerie Flowers.
  • Stepford Smiler: He smiles, jokes and laughs a lot, but it all hides a lot of his deep-seated issues from being a Turnscale living in a city, let alone a continent full of anti-Turnscale sentiment to his anxieties about the future of all Drakes.
