The Powerpuff Girls

    In General

The Powerpuff Girls

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ppgd_powerpuff_girls.jpg
The titular characters from the 1998 series The Powerpuff Girls. 3 little girls that were created by their father, Professor Jonathan Utonium, from a combination of "sugar, spice, and everything nice" as well as a dose of a powerful, mutagenic chemical known as "Chemical X." The girls continue to use their superpowers to fight crime and the forces of evil alongside adjusting to their new life in the city of Megaville.

    Blossom

Blossom Utonium

Commander and the leader of the Powerpuff Girls, naturally. Blossom, being the most intelligent and knowledgeable among her sisters, takes the lead in coordinating and directing her sisters to action. During the course of the webcomic, she develops an intimate relationship with Dexter, especially after being saved by him from Mandark in the first arc of the webcomic.

    Bubbles

Bubbles Utonium

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ppgd_bubbles_profile.png
The joy and the laughter among the trio. She is the most friendly among her sisters, striking up numerous friendships in the series as well as an interest in ballet dancing.
  • Badass Adorable: While this applies to all three of them, Bubbles' stands out more due to her bubbly personality.
  • Chaste Hero: She's the only one of her sisters who doesn't have a Love Interest or a Precocious Crush.
  • Damsel in Distress: For a little bit when Mojo's monster ambushes her.
  • Dance Battler: Type 2
  • Friend to All Living Things: She gets along quite well with Courage.
  • Fangirl: Bubbles pounced on Jenny the moment she saw her.
  • Identical Stranger: Both Blossom and Dexter have noted that Bubbles looks and acts eerily similar to Dee Dee.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": She gets really excited when meeting Jenny Wakeman for the first time.
  • Magical Girl: Used as a gag.
    • Her dancing troupe outfit from Chapters 8 through 11 makes her look like a magical girl though.
  • Nice Girl: She's far more polite and empathetic than her sisters.
  • Odd Friendship: Bubbles striking up a friendship with Mandy and Gaz of all people.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Just like in the original 1998 series, Bubbles can communicate with animals. Because of this, she is the only character in the series (outside Monkey, another animal) that can understand Courage's gibberish and barking due to him being The Unintelligible.

    Buttercup

Buttercup Utonium

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ppgd_buttercup_profile_5.png
The toughest fighter among the Powerpuff Girls. Being the rough-and-tumble fighter of the trio, Buttercup is typically the most aggressive among her sisters, yet still fights for justice against the forces of evil. She also develops a crush on Sensei Jack, Megaville Elementary's gym teacher.
  • Action Girl: While this applies to all of them, Buttercup gets the most attention due to her being a Blood Knight powerhouse.
  • Blood Knight: No surprise that she loves fighting giant monsters and supervillains. When it bleeds over into her kendo classes with Jack, however, it leads to problems.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Was there ever any doubt?
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She does not like Jack and Agent Honeydew's growing closeness near the end of chapter 11.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Tends to snark a lot.
  • Eye Scream: Takes a vicious roundhouse kick from Bell that bloodies and blacks out her left eye...and doesn't even flinch. Girl's the "Toughest Fighter" of The Powerpuff Girls for a reason.
  • Hidden Depths: She's a surprisingly good chef.
  • Hopeless Suitor: She has a crush on Jack but given their age differences, Jack's Fish out of Temporal Water status, and growing closeness with Agent Honeydew, it's highly unlikely that her feelings would be reciprocated.
  • Incoming Ham: LET THE HAM GO!
  • Ironic Name: It's a little ironic for a tomboy to have a name like "Buttercup".
  • The Lad-ette: It's Buttercup, without the need for family-friendly viewing. This was inevitable.
  • Magic Skirt: In the first chapter, where Dexter is holding her upside down by one foot.
  • Meaningful Name: While she was named, Buttercup, as part of the same beginning letter theme to her sisters, it still gives meaning to her character as a "buttercup" is a chocolate treat with a peanut butter core. So while Buttercup looks sweet on the outside, her personality is that of a rough tomboy.
    • Her name could also be derived from the buttercup flower, a type of flower that has shiny gloss pedals with yellow pigmentation. They're also known to be poisonous for consumption and have a bitter taste. This falls in line with Buttercup's character because although she may visually be appealing from an outside point of view, she has a sarcastic and violent edge when compared to her sisters.
  • Odd Name Out: Unlike her sisters' names being meaningful to their personalities, "Buttercup" is only a name given to her because it also starts with a "B".
    • Subverted in that her name could also be derived from a poisonous flower of the same name.
  • Precocious Crush: Develops one for her PE teacher Jack.
  • Real Men Cook: A rare female example. Buttercup is the most "boyish" of her sisters whose interests aligned with traditional masculine activities (i.e. competitive sports, martial arts, etc.), and is very good at cooking.
  • Rescue Romance: She gains a crush on Jack for both his strength and rescue of her in chapter 2.
  • Team Chef: She serves as this for sisters and friends.
  • Unstoppable Rage: After Samantha killed Blossom... or something like that.
  • Women Prefer Strong Men: Considering her own Blood Knight tendencies, it's no surprise that Buttercup would develop this sort of attraction to Sensei Jack, and with an added dose of Rescue Romance.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: Is capable of performing several wrestling-inspired moves.

Friends, Allies and Associates

    Dexter

Dexter

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ppgd_dexter_profile_cleanup.png
Click here to see Dexter's eyes.

The titular boy genius of Dexter's Laboratory. Still, the same Science Hero that we all know and love, though thankfully not as arrogant this time around. Tests the girls' combat skills on their first day at Megaville Elementary, becoming friends with Blossom afterward. He is haunted by the death of Dee Dee, his older sister, who died trying to protect him while he was fighting Mandark, his arch-rival. He was attempting to reconstruct her as an android but has since suspended the project.

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: He loses Dee Dee prior to the start of the webcomic, and is forever haunted by how she died from his constant rivalry with Mandark.
  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Let's just say, Bleedman's art style is a huge improvement for Dexter compared to the original cartoon.
  • Adaptational Curves: He's much more humanly proportionate in the webcomic than in the original cartoon.
  • Adaptational Karma: If you believe it to be a case of karma for his arrogance, then Dee Dee's life is the price he had to pay in order for him to be humble.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Justified. He's far less arrogant and prideful in the webcomic and is noticeably kinder to others as a result of the trauma he experienced after losing Dee Dee from his rivalry with Mandark.
  • Awesome by Analysis: He's capable of immense deduction and analytical skills thanks to his scientific intellect, and is more than capable of holding his own in a physical fight through this, Sherlock-style. He even teaches Blossom how to do this prior to her second fight with Bell.
  • Badass Bookworm: It's Dexter. No surprises here.
  • Badass Longcoat: Observe.
  • Badass Normal: He doesn't have any supernatural powers, but is nevertheless capable of holding his own in a fight with his intellect and gadgets.
  • Big Damn Kiss: He gives this to Blossom at the end of chapter 13, much to her surprise. Unfortunately, it was given to her mainly out of guilt for his Last Kiss of Olga and believing that the latter isn't who he thought she was.
  • Boring, but Practical: Any inventions/gadgets that he makes and/or utilized, or assists in other people's projects/research aren't really flashy or mind-boggling compare to the ones before Dee Dee's death, but they can really get the job done in the long run without falling into Awesome, but Impractical/Cool, but Inefficient/Hoist by His Own Petard categories due to outside circumstances.
  • Break the Haughty: In the original cartoon of Dexter's Laboratory, Dexter would come off as an Insufferable Genius accompanied by a huge ego, along with a strange disorder. He hated all things "stupid" and did not enjoy some of the simpler things in life like Dee Dee had done. However, after Dee Dee's death, Dexter has shown to be a lot less arrogant and seems to act in a more caring and understanding manner than he used to. Instead of trying to prove his superior intellect to the world, he's become more reserved and helpful with others without showing any sign of arrogance on his end.
  • Deliberate Under-Performance: While Dexter is by no means any less intelligent than he was in the original series, it is shown that he rarely, if ever, creates any inventions like he used to, which are scientific marvels in comparison to his scientific colleagues. Before Dee Dee's death, his marvel inventions consisted of the following: time travel, dimensional travel, gravity manipulation, teleportation, reality-warping, and countless robots. However, since Dee Dee's death, he doesn't seem to show any of his old inventions or making new ones. Instead, he has directed his attention towards other projects instead and lending aid to research with his fellow scientists regarding the bomb that occurred on the Moon and on Earth.
Blossom: And so, as Otto and I traveled further, I began to see more of Dexter's life. This was the Dexter I never met, the Dexter I never knew. Dexter...before he lost his sister, Dee Dee, he seemed so different then, always working on new inventions and new ideas.
  • Deuteragonist: For all intends and purposes, Dexter serves as this as he gets the lion's share of on-panel appearances, especially a personal connection to the Starter Villain.
  • Heroic BSoD: Twice.
  • Interspecies Romance: He's a normal human who develops feelings for Blossom, an Artificial Human (labeled as a Transhuman by the wiki).
  • Last Kiss: With Olga in Chapter 9. It doesn't end well as they didn't die, leaving the two to be incredibly embarrassed.
  • My Greatest Failure: Dee Dee's death is one for him in his backstory, which is something is at least partially responsible for.
  • No Social Skills: Downplayed. He's capable of conversing well with others, but still has some trouble communicating at times regarding interpersonal matters as well as his slight tendency to work alone.
  • Not So Above It All: As the saying goes, "Old habits die hard". While he's genuinely kinder, sociable, and more well-adjusted than how he was in the original show, Dexter can still have his moments.
    • In his Establishing Character Moment, he challenges Buttercup into a fight to test her superpowers during recess. While Buttercup technically threw the first punch, Dexter's still should've known that attempting to provoke a physical fight on school grounds is not something you should do.
    • Whenever someone is in need of a "genuis", he'll respond pretty quick. Behold!
  • Now It's My Turn: In the first fight against the Powerpuff Girls.
  • Power Armor: Whenever he fights toe-to-toe with a superpowered opponent.
    • In his Establishing Character Moment, he dons the Dexo-Transformer in his test battle against Buttercup and not soon after, all three of the Powerpuff Girls.
    • When meeting face-to-face with Brick in a flashback during chapter 15, Dexter puts on an Iron Man-esque battlesuit.
  • Science Hero: A given, since he displayed interest in becoming a superhero in the original show.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: Most often coupled with Purple Prose. His Internal Monologue in chapter six is probably the best example.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: About Blossom to Coop in Chapter 5. Naturally, he doesn't buy it.
  • Sherlock Scan: Does this in his final fight against Mandark in chapter 6, as revealed to Blossom in a flashback in chapter 10, "Prolonging The Inevitable". He even teaches her how to do this, which greatly helps her to subdue Bell rather easily in their second fight.
  • Shirtless Scene: After the fight with Mandark. Made even better with the bandages.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: To Mandark.
  • Super-Intelligence: He's the boy genius after all.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: When he hacks the underground vault to the panic room and changes the password to "Big Red Bow" telling Olga it had no real meaning. Of course, it's hard to deny this in a room full of scientists, one of which being the father of the subject matter.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In the past, Dexter's personality was pretty much the same in the original show. It's only after Dee Dee's death, which he's also partially responsible for, is where Dexter becomes far less arrogant and kinder to others by the time the webcomic starts.
  • What Beautiful Eyes!: Blossom was amazed at how beautiful Dexter's eyes were under his glasses.
  • You Remind Me Of Her: Dexter views Bubbles as this because her behavior, mannerism, and appearance remind him heavily of Dee Dee. And not without good cause: they both have blonde hair in pigtails, they both have blue eyes, they're both very cheery individuals, they both love to dance (specifically ballet), and they both know how to talk to animals. If there's one difference between the 2, Dexter is far nicer to Bubbles than he was to Dee Dee when she was alive.

    Olga "Lalavava" Astronomonov

Olga "Lalavava" Astronomonov

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ppgd_olga_profile_cleanup.png
Mandark's sister and previously unseen member of Megaville Elementary student body. Appeared immediately following Mandark's death and seems to be keeping an eye out specifically for Dexter and the Powerpuff Girls. Has apparently been head of the school's dance troupe since something happened to the previous leader ( presumably Dee-Dee dying) and previously hung out with Mandy and Gaz.
  • The Ace: She's considered the best dancer in the school's dance troupe and is currently the head of it after Dee Dee's death.
  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Bleedman's improved art style makes Olga just as attractive to the Powerpuff Girls in the webcomic.
  • Adaptational Curves: She's much more humanly proportionate in the webcomic than in the original cartoon, who was a Distaff Counterpart to Dexter's stubby appearance.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Double Subverted. At first, it's believed that Olga will try to avenge Mandark's death, only to be revealed that it isn't the case when confronting Dexter at the beach. However, this comes into question when she secretly breaches Dexter's secret laboratory in the school and stole the android copy of Dee Dee, along with leaving a "message" in between chapters 11 and 13.
  • Ascended Extra: She was originally an One-Shot Character who serves as Dee Dee's ballet rival in a similar vein to the bitter rivalry of their brothers in the original show. The webcomic has Olga becoming one of the main characters along with her own agendas that are currently unknown.
  • Betty and Veronica: Although she isn't aware of it, Olga has this dynamic with Blossom, being the distant and mysterious Veronica to the latter's sweet and caring Betty. However, this be more nuance due to Olga's recent actions.
  • Death Glare: She can rival Mandy in giving these sorts of glares.
  • Dramatic Thunder: Just like in Dexter's Laboratory every time someone utters her nickname, lightning strikes. Even when they happen to be inside.
  • Emotionless Girl: Almost to the extent of Mandy, which is certainly saying something. Subverted both times when she believes that she was about to die in chapter 9 and her confrontation with Dexter at the beach.
  • Last Kiss: With Dexter in Chapter 9. Subverted as they never did die, leaving the two to be incredibly embarrassed.
  • Red Herring: It looks like she'll be a villain and wish to avenge her brother, but this turns out not to be the case... Or is it?
  • Unknown Rival: She doesn't know about Mandy's secret dislike for her.
  • Unresolved Sexual Tension: With Dexter.
  • Yaoi Fangirl: Gained a nosebleed when she saw Boomer kissing Dexter.

    Jenny Wakeman

Jenny Wakeman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ppgd_jenny_profile_cleanup.png
The robot heroine of My Life as a Teenage Robot and also part of Project Rowdy, where she more or less serves as the boys' combat training opponent. Their last simulation session ended badly. She lost an arm and was seen having it repaired. Has recently reappeared back in the story.
