A list of playable characters for the multiplayer modes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and III.

    open/close all folders

    General
  • Ambiguous Situation: Whom each faction is serving or working for isn’t known and why.
  • Enemy Mine: Although the SpecGru and KorTac fight against each other in multiplayer, their operatives are free to cooperate with each other in Spec Ops against the larger threat of Al-Qatala.
  • Friendly Fireproof: Zigzagged. While friendly operators are immune to damage from each other, they would still call out if an ally shoots too close to them. Played straight on Hardcore modes, however.
  • Gratuitous Foreign Language: All operators in the game, if they aren't native English speakers, will frequently insert terms and phrases of their own languages into their battle chatter. Izzy is the first character to avert this, speaking entirely in untranslated Japanese (not counting English loanwords).
  • Multinational Team: Both sides are composed of operators from a variety of different countries.
  • One-Steve Limit: Fully averted. The game does not restrict how many of each operator could be on one team at any time. With luck, it is theoretically completely possible to assemble an entire match where everybody on each team plays as the same character. Cranked up if this happens in a 64-man Ground War match.

Avid hunter and history buff, Reyes lied about his age to join the Canadian Special Forces and served in Urzikstan and Al-Mazrah.
  • Comic-Book Fantasy Casting: Visually based on actor and Recon Marine, Rudy Reyes.
  • Moose and Maple Syrup: He's so stereotypically Canadian that not only the stereotypical "Eh" features in some of his quotes, but his native language is French... despite him being from Alberta, the other end of the country.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Of Shane Sparks from the first game, who was also based on Rudy Reyes.

Voiced by: Chad Michael Collins (English)
A CIA agent and comrade of Task Force 141.
  • Handicapped Badass: Lost his leg destroying Roman Barkov's gas factory, but that didn't stop him.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Again, his supposed death at the end of MW 2019's campaign didn't stick, and the game doesn't bother hiding it.

    Io

Io

Real name: Unknown
Nationality: Unknown
Voiced by: N/A

  • The Voiceless: Like Atom, not a single word comes out of her mouth in battle.

    Butch

Butch

Real name: Unknown
Nationality: American
Voiced by: Edward Bosco (English)

    Starlight

Starlight

Real name: Annie January
Nationality: American
Voiced by: Erin Moriarty (English)

  • Adaptational Wimp: While she isn't completely Immune to Bullets like Homelander, in the source material, the worst even .50 cal bullets can do to her is knock the wind out of her. In this game, she can be Swiss cheese like everybody else.
  • Guest Fighter: One of the three members of the Seven added to the game during Season Four.
  • Light 'em Up: Has light-based powers that she uses for her finishing moves.
  • Token Good Teammate: She is the most morally good member of the Seven in her home series. This can be seen with her not being in KorTac like Homelander and Black Noir.

    Arthur

Arthur

Real name: Unknown
Nationality: Unknown
Voiced by: N/A
An enigmatic member of both BlackCell and Shadow Company whose only known associate is his dog Merlin.

  • Expy: Design-wise, he bears a striking resemblance to the FTL rig from Infinite Warfare.
  • Virtual Sidekick: Has one in the form of Gwen, a talking Gun Screen attachment that reacts to in-game events.
  • The Voiceless: Like all other BlackCell associates, not a single word comes out of Arthur's mouth in battle, only responding in grunts.

    Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg

Real name: Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.
Nationality: American
Voiced by: Himself (English)

  • The Bus Came Back: Returns to playable Operator status after his stint in Vanguard, this time in a less anachronistic setting. He also returns with some new skins for MWIII's Season 3 Battle Pass.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Subverted. While he's seen posing up with Makarov and his Konni cronies in MWIII Season 3 promotional materials, he's still fighting for SpecGru.
  • Mythology Gag: His "Snoop Dawg" skin from Season 3 of MWIII turns him into a Doberman, referencing his transformation into one in the music video for his song, "Who Am I (What's My Name)?".
  • The Stoner: As one would expect from the Dogg, his outfit has a clear weed motif. His bundle even comes with a blueprint called "Toke Force 141".
  • Visual Pun: His Blackcell skin in Season 3 of MWIII, "Snoop Dawg", turns him into an actual dog.

    Lara Croft

Lara Croft

Real name: Lara Amelia Croft
Nationality: English
Voiced by: Keeley Hawes (English)

  • Composite Character: She is an entirely unique version of Lara with elements of all major incarnations of Ms. Croft.
    • Original Timeline
      • Her outfit is quite obviously generally based on the classic Lara ensemble.
      • Her finishing move is named "Play for Sport", echoing her statement to Natla.
    • Legend Timeline
      • She is voiced by Keeley Hawes, just like this iteration of the character.
      • The "Mach-5" 9mm Daemons are Staccato Ps, which is a modernized variant of the M1911, Lara's pistols of choice in Anniversary. Speaking of Anniversary, Lara is wearing the classic ensemble as she did in that game.
    • "Survivor" Timeline
      • She wears the same necklace as "Survivor" Lara.
      • Her bundle comes with "Survivor" Lara's signature weapon, the red ice pick.
      • Some of her voice lines are borrowed from her, namely, "Run, you bastards! I'M COMING FOR YOU ALL!"
    • Film Series
      • Her custom "Mach-5" 9mm Daemons has silver plating and black accents that are evocative of Angelina Jolie's signature USP Matches.
  • Guns Akimbo: Wouldn't be Lara Croft without it. Her bundle comes with akimbo, silver-accented 9mm Daemons.

    Spawn

Spawn

Real name: Albert Francis Simmons
Nationality: American
Voiced by: Keith David (English)

  • Adaptational Wimp: As one would expect, he's nowhere near as impervious to bullets as in his comics.
  • Badass Cape: His Tier 100 skin grants him his iconic cape.
  • Baritone of Strength: It's Keith David, what did you expect?
  • Military Superhero: One of his Battle Pass skins, "Mil-Spawn", serves as an in-between for his pre- and post-Hellspawn selves, essentially being Spawn equipped with Vietnam-era gear.

    Ash Williams

Ash Williams

Real name: Ashley J. Williams
Nationality: American
Voiced by: Bruce Campbell (English)

  • Buffy Speak: If you thought Homelander was bad with military terminology, Ash doesn't even try most of the time.
"Gimme some big rounds, y'know? Fat-ass rounds, alright? Big caliber. Fat caliber rounds."
  • Composite Character: Mostly averted: the bundle explicitly cites Evil Dead 2 as the incarnation of Ash used, though other films in the franchise are referenced in his dialogue and blueprints.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Wouldn't be Ash if he wasn't.
  • Dull Surprise: A lot of his voicelines are so comedic due to his deadpan tone. Hilariously averted in his "too close" lines, where he screams hysterically upon nearly getting his head blown off.

    Alucard

Alucard

Real name: Vlad Tepes III of Wallachia
Nationality: Unknown (presumed Romanian)
Voiced by: Crispin Freeman (English)

  • Adaptational Wimp: As expected, he can be killed with much less effort than required in his home series.
  • Large Ham: One of Alucard's defining traits, and it's no different here.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Compared to the photorealistic designs of the other operators, Alucard's model looks much more in line with his home series, most noteworthy with his mouth constantly in an unnaturally-wide Slasher Smile.

    Inarius

Inarius

Real name: Inarius
Nationality: Unknown
Voiced by: Gabe Kunda (English)

  • Stock Audio Clip: His voicelines when performing finishing moves are reused from his game of origin.

  • Atrocious Alias: It's not explained where the nickname comes from, but it does make people think of the car part.
  • Disappeared Dad: He never met his father, who was recalled to the US and supposedly died.
  • The Fighting Narcissist: Downplayed: his bio mentions that his massive custom helmet protects his face, for the sake of his mother.
  • Monster Clown: With the Spawn-themed Season 6 Battle Pass, he gets a skin based on the Violator.

    König

König

Real name: Unknown
Nationality: Austrian
Voiced by: Jim Boeven (English)
A member of the German Kommando Spezialkraefte (KSK) unit, König has a reputation for working as a human battering ram.
  • AB Negative: His blood type is AB Negative according to his "The Wolf" operator skin.
  • The Big Guy: He's one of the larger operators in the roster. Ironically despite his current reputation, he formerly wanted to be a recon sniper but his size and inability to stay still made him a poor candidate which ended up with him being rejected. However his size made him a great insertion specialist and pointman.
  • Expy: Of Modern Warfare 2019's Krueger, although with a diametrically different attitude.
  • The Faceless: All his skins in Season One have him wear either a sniper's veil or a gas mask, like Krueger. And he continues to wear headgear that conceals his head face in later seasons.
  • Noble Wolf: He gets a wolf mask in the Grimm Wolf Operator Bundle, and he's relatively heroic.
  • Shrinking Violet: As a child, he suffered from severe social anxiety and he might still have that today with his habit of wearing face-concealing headgear.

Horangi

Real name: Kim Hong-jin
Nationality: South Korean
Voiced by: Nick Martineau (English)
A "dogshit gambler" who joined the Korean Army in order to avoid paying off his gambling debts.
  • Recruiting the Criminal: Downplayed. He's a gambler, and a bad one at that, and joined the Army to hide from the mob.
  • Shrouded in Myth: His backstory mentions several speculations as to why he prefers to stay masked, some of them painting him as a badass on par with Ghost.

    Hutch

Hutch

Real name: Darnell Hutchinson
Nationality: American
Voiced by: Guignard Isaac (Appearance) / Faruq Tauheed (Voice) (English)
After graduating college with a degree in computer science, Hutch was motivated to join the Marines after the Rammaza raid.
  • Expy: He's clearly based on Modern Warfare 2019's Raines (appearance, USMC background), but with elements of Rodion (technical education, allegiance to KorTac).
  • Genius Bruiser: In an inversion of Raines' background, Hutch's bio has him go from college to the military.
  • Lightning Bruiser: His bio describes him as "built like a house [and] quick as a panther".

    Stiletto

Stiletto

Real name: Salvatrice Muselli
Nationality: Italian
Voiced by: TapRackPewAmy (Appearance) / Silvia Baldassini (Voice) (English)
Italian carabiniera with a mysterious past.
  • Alternate Company Equivalent: Of Rainbow Six Siege's Finka, with the scar and a knife-related nickname.
  • Comic-Book Fantasy Casting: As revealed by Alex Zedra (Modern Warfare 2019's Mara), Stiletto's appearance is based on someone she knows.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Has a large jagged scar across the left side of her face.
  • Mysterious Past: Her bio mentions that it's not known why she joined the Carabinieri to work against the Camorra, but It's Personal.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Her voice seems to slip into an American accent somewhat regularly, particularly when she says "bastard" after downing an enemy (which, given the subtitles, seems like it was meant to be said in Italian — given the use of square brackets around the word — but she says the word in English and with very little Italian accent).

    Roze

Roze

Real name: Rozlin Helms
Nationality: American
Voiced by: April Nicol (Appearance) / Alicyn Packard (Voice) (English)note
Former Shadow Company operative, returning from Modern Warfare 2019.
  • Comic-Book Fantasy Casting: Modeled after motivational speaker and Internet personality April Nicol.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Has easily the deepest voice of the female operators so far.
  • Old Shame: In-Universe example; she's retired her dark suits by 2022, this being in reference to how utterly despised her skin was in Warzone for its much-too-effective camouflage and abuse by "tryhard" or "sweaty" players.
  • Progressively Prettier: In Modern Warfare, most of her skins were dark suits that covered up her face. In Modern Warfare II, she ditches those suits and grows her hair out, making her look absolutely stunning and more like her model, April Nicol.
  • Visual Pun: The patch on her right shoulder that depicts a rose.

    Zero

Zero

Real name: Sami Zakaria
Nationality: Egyptian
Voiced by: Martin Medina (Appearance) / Ayman Samman (Voice) (English)

  • Guest Fighter: Notably, the first one in-game who isn't a real person.

    Valeria

Valeria

Real name: Valeria Garza
Nationality: Mexican
Voiced by: María Elisa Camargo (English)
Former Fuerzas Especiales turned leader of the Las Almas Cartel known as "El Sin Nombre".
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Season Three's marketing, along with Valeria's operator bio and cosmetics make no attempt to hide she is El Sin Nombre, and not their sicaria as was initially believed in the campaign.
  • This Means Warpaint: Her Tier 100 skin in Season Three gives her skull-esque warpaint.

    Atom

Atom

Real name: Unknown
Nationality: Unknown
Voiced by: N/A
Mysterious operator with an affiliation with private manufacturer BlackCell.
  • The Speechless: Much like Velikan from Modern Warfare 2019, Atom does not talk, not even for a quip.

    Nikto

Nikto

Real name: Andrei Nikto

    Homelander

Homelander

Real name: John Gillman
Nationality: American
Voiced by: Antony Starr (English)

  • Adaptational Wimp: While he's Immune to Bullets in his home series, his appearance here makes him just as squishy as any other playable Operator.
  • Buffy Speak: He's not quite as comfortable with all the lingo as his allies.
    On your... six...? Yeah, whatever.
    Found a... valuable... here.
  • Guest Fighter: One of the three members of the Seven added to the game during Season Four.
  • Your Head A-Splode: His "Laser Everyone" finisher does this to the unfortunate victim.

    Black Noir

Black Noir

Real name: Earving
Nationality: American
Voiced by: Nathan Mitchell (English)

    Izzy

Izzy

Real name: Izanami
Nationality: Japanese

  • Animesque: Between the white hair, purple eyes, Fanservice, Japanese voice acting and the visual effects of her bundle's weapons, it's clear that's what the designers were going for.
  • Bilingual Bonus: She speaks entirely in untranslated Japanese, not counting the occasional English loanword.
  • Stock Audio Clip: Her voice is actually just Stiletto's Japanese voice clips recycled.

    Oz

Oz

Real name: Osmond Ryan
Nationality: American
Voiced by: Zoltan Bathory (Appearance) / Walter Gray IV (Voice) (English)
The de-facto leader of Shadow Company, Oz is a highly decorated cyber soldier tasked by General Shepherd with managing the narratives regarding one Commander Phillip Graves.

Nationality: American
Voiced by: Warren Kole (English)

Voiced by: Herself (English)

     21 Savage

21 Savage

Real name: Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph
Nationality: English
Voiced by: Himself (English)

  • Blade Enthusiast: His bundle comes with a unique knife, with a finishing move named "Stabbed.. A Lot" which depicts him, as expected, brutally stabbing a foe in three different ways.
  • Color Motifs: Red, a color associated with violence, death, and, of course, blood. One of his weapons is a red-colored BAS-P blueprint named "Red Opps" and both of his weapons shoot red tracers that leave a red skull upon an opponent's death.

    V4L

V4L

Real name: V4L3RIA
Nationality: Mexican (AI)
Voiced by: María Elisa Camargo (English)
An experimental robot soldier crafted by BlackCell based on the Las Almas Cartel's leader, Valeria Garza, aka "El Sin Nombre".

  • Stock Audio Clip: Her voicelines when performing finishing moves are reused from her game of origin.

    Skeletor
