Cover Discography and Imported Tracks
Much like its predecessors BanG Dream! and from ARGONAVIS, D4DJ boasts a large repertoire of cover songs from various Japanese media. However, it also contains original OST and songs exported from video games and other Japanese media, due to its DJ nature (being that DJs can utilise instrumentals and original tracks to create remixes/playlists as opposed to being limited to having to produce their own covers for use).

- Author's Saving Throw: The Japanese version's 2nd anniversary event used a new type of event format, a RAVE event, which was strongly disliked by players due to the rather confusing format that involved guessing which songs the in-game audience wanted. In response, Donuts Games put out statements on social media and in-game declaring they would not put out any more RAVE events for the time being due to "player feedback", issued event currency as an apology, and in the international version of the game, the event used the more familiar Raid format instead. The RAVE event format was restored with reworks in mid-2023 with the "Return of the RAVE" event, which also marks the debut of the event type in the international version.
- Dueling Games: With Project SEKAI, another idol- and gacha-based mobile rhythm game and which was released one month prior. Although Project SEKAI is published by a different company, its developer, Colorful Palette, is a subsidiary of CraftEgg, the developer for BanG Dream! Girls Band Party!, another such game published by Bushiroad.
- Dummied Out: Several secret songs are technically available in the non-Japanese versions of the game, but cannot be accessed because their prerequisite songs are missing. One particularly strange example is the old version of "Climax Jump": you are supposed to unlock it by making a medley of "Kamen Rider BLACK", "Climax Jump", "Journey through the Decade", "Knight Rider", but "Kamen Rider BLACK" is missing from the international version of the game; however the Medley Event "Welcome back! M4id, Br!de or Me!?" has a Task Song Medley with this song available. This means the song is playable, but exclusively in Medley Lives; you can't play the full song in a non-Medley Live. You can earn Score and Play Count rewards from it, but the Combo rewards are completely unobtainable because Combo rewards can only be earned by playing the song in a regular Solo or Multi Live.
- He Also Did:
- Yamajet, who is well-known for his music contributions to many other rhythm games like O2Jam, Cytus, Arcaea, and Lanota, is one of the chart designers for Groovy Mix.
- hi-low, one of the charters for this game, is also a BMS charter. In fact, they did both the BMS and D4DJ charts for "CO5M1C R4ILR0AD".
- Late Export for You: Content updates for Groovy Mix are delayed for the international version by a few months, assuming they aren't just outright omitted. Not helping matters is that said version gets licensed songs at a slower rate than the Japanese version. So far, the exceptions include:
- Character birthday events. Notably, when Call of Artemis was added to the English version on May 26, 2022, Mana's birthday (May 18) event was ran from May 30 to June 2 so that players of that version wouldn't have to wait a year for an event for a character that was introduced in that version a few days after her birthday.
- Navigation gacha banners, since they are tied to characters' birth months.
- Guilty Gear -STRIVE- collaboration.
- NEEDY STREAMER OVERLOAD collaboration.
- Troubled Production: While the international release of the Groovy Mix app was originally intended to be simply a language switch from the Japanese version, difficulties in licensing the large amounts of imported OSTs and cover tracks forced the developers to instead create a seperate app for international release, offering players who have been playing the Japanese release a chance to transfer their accounts at the loss of limited collaboration cards such as Monster Hunter and hololive in exchange for non-limited 4* selector tickets. This understandably caused a large amount of Hype Backlash from the player base, and caused a few issues when at least one of those limited collaboration events made it over to the international version, as players that transferred over from the Japanese version and sacrificed the collab cards would have to earn them again in the international version.
