Character-related memes
- The Protagonist/Ritsuka Fujimaru/Gudao/Gudako
- Rin and Shirou's children. Explanation Given that the design of the male and female protagonist was based on a genderflip of Rin Tohsaka and Shirou Emiya respectively, the fandom quickly made jokes of the protagonist being the child of the latters, or children if both the male and female protagonist are present. This was partially due to the game being released after the end of the Unlimited Blade Works anime - in which Shirou and Rin are romantically involved - and also due to Rin's route being the only one where Shirou could have any potential children.
- Gender Bender/Crossdresser Guda Explanation Because the player can change the main character's gender and portrait at will and at any time in My Room, they're often given this ability in fanworks.
- Beast VIII: Riyo GudakoExplanation Due to Riyo Gudako's status as a Memetic Psychopath, many fans have coined the name Beast VIII, declaring her to be the true ultimate evil in the game that makes other villains such as Goetia, Tiamat, Kiara, and the Alien God look like rank amateurs in comparison to her. This is only excerbated by the April Fool's card art showing her distressing in various ways Beast class villains. In fact it is fairly plausible that Gudako is the Beast of Alaya as the Counter Force has a Beast whose job it is to explicitly prevent the extinction of humanity.
- Harem Protag EX Explanation Related to EMIYA's Ero Protag EX meme, the player character proving to be a huge Chick Magnet story-wise has led to fans exaggerating it into them being the ultimate harem protagonist with everyone wanting their love.
- We are hot.Explanation Player Character Ritsuka is subject to just as much Self-Fanservice as the rest of the cast, usually leading to people saying that, since Ritsuka represents the player, it makes people enjoying fanart of Ritsuka technically lust after themselves.
- Fou
- FOU-KYU Explanation After Fou was noted to have a tendency to beat the crap out of Merlin, fans noted its battle cry (or similar) just happens to rhyme with the sort of phrase for someone who's utterly pissed with another person, as it sounds like "Fuck You". Comparison can be made with a certain AI youtuber and her attempt on the same thing: "Fakkyu!"
- Goredolf Musik
- YOU FOOL! CHALDEAN SCIENCE IS THE BEST IN THE WORLD!!!!Explanation When "Re: Discover Movie Lostbelt No.3" is released, it's revealed that Goredolf Musik will be voiced by Atsushi Imaruoka, with one of his most famous roles being Rudol von Stroheim. No points for guessing why the fandom created this line.
- Galahad
- Galahad the pervert Explanation Thanks to the outfit Mash gets when using Galahad's powers, fans have made jokes assuming him to be a massive pervert who designed the outfit to fit his kinks.
- That's Lancelot's son, alright. Explanation Related to the above, jokes about perverted Galahad are usually followed by jokes saying that he inherited his behavior from his father, Lancelot.
- Galahad tempted Ritsuka, so it's not their fault. Explanation (Spoilers) Fans who ship Ritsuka and Mash have joked that Galahad's reasoning for refusing to help Chaldea anymore during the Lostbelt arc is that the two of them had sex offscreen and Galahad stood by being a virgin. This is usually followed up by mentioning the outfit he gave Mash and saying that Galahad was just asking for Ritsuka to fall for Mash by choosing that attire.
- Crypters
- Kadoc got locked in a trunk and NTR'd. Explanation Anastasia serves as Kadoc's Morality Pet, to the point where his allies are worried that he might prioritize her over their goals. When he's inevitably defeated, his version of Anastasia is killed, and he is captured aboard the Shadow Border. The protagonist can then summon a fresh version of Anastasia, who falls in love with them. Fans then imagined Kadoc being forced to listen from the next room as his Servant grows to love the one who destroyed the world he meant to create for her.
- Such is the fate of Crypters.Explanation An eventually Discredited Meme. NTR-ing Kadoc originated from the fact that Kadoc's entire goal was to support Anastasia, only for his version of her to be killed and the summonable one to fall in love with us, leading many to see it as the player NTR-ing him and thinking the rest of the Crypters would follow suit, or to some people, seeing it as a punishment for what all the Crypters did in the Lostbelt Prologue, as many players at that time were still fresh off suffering a brutal Player Punch and people usually coped by trying to see this in a Black-and-White Morality manner, with the Crypters needing to be punished for being 'the ungrateful bad guys' and taking away everything the players did for mankind (and Kadoc, being the first Crypter the players faced while possessing an inferiority complex and jealousy against the protagonist, didn't help his case). This died out as the other Crypters were revealed, and players were further hit with just how much of a Grey-and-Gray Morality the conflict truly was and discovered the Crypters exuded other honorable and admirable attitudes, as well as avoiding being NTR'd in various ways. Ophelia died in her Lostbelt and you can't NTR the dead. Hinako is a bit more complicated since she dies, but becomes a very attractive Servant, and the Servant she's in love with, Xiang Yu, isn't exactly conventionally attractive being a hellish-centaur-robot-creature. Peperoncino lost control of his Servant to God Arjuna and has to work with the protagonist to defeat him which is more like God Arjuna NTR-ing him. Kirschtaria abandons his Servant Caenis the moment she failed him for his plans, meaning that he's OK if you NTR him, and later on, his reveal that he was Good All Along is taken as 'he's such a bro that he's OK if you NTR him, including that Pollux (albeit at the cost of NTR-ing Castor)'. At the moment, the Crypters are no longer seen as NTR-targets, and people also no longer subject Kadoc to NTR-ing (especially after Lostbelt 6.5 made him much more likable), although there's one Crypter who got hit with it deservedly: Beryl Gut, considering he stayed as an extreme Stalker with a Crush and continuously hitting on Mash. In this case, the players LITERALLY NTR him by merely defending their favorite kouhai from his advances. By the time Beryl died being NTR'd, the players have had their fill that they just stopped trying or forgot to NTR Daybit with Tezcatlipoca (who, of course, is a guy, but even female players just stopped trying either)
- Pepe is a JoJo character Explanation Many players noted that Pepe's character design looked similar to Hirohiko Araki's art style despite not being drawn by him. It helps that Pepe's sprites and facial expression looked like he would fit right in the world of JoJo.
- Because of Scandavinia Peperocino's obvious fake name, many NA players came up with silly names which are usually "[name of country] + [name of food]" such as "Yugoslavia Peperoni" etc.
- The Cautious Crypter.Explanation Kirschtaria decides to deal with Chaldea seriously right from the start of Lostbelt 5(A), starting from sending a whole fleet along with Caenis and prototype beasts to intercept Nautilus, backed by a giant Kill Sat in the orbit. Obviously, people compare him with Seiya or the Demon Lord from the show.
- DAYBIT!!! DAAAAAYBIIIIIT!!! HELP ME!!!Explanation Originating from a greentext post◊ from /fgog/ about Daybit where Wodime asks Daybit what if they summon Adolf Hitler to defeat the Protagonist, it evolved into Wodime asking Daybit for help with all sorts of things, such as whenever there is a difficult fight, him losing to the Protagonist or other forces, or other absurd things, with Daybit not offering any help due to his own agenda. If he does come to save him, it usually involves his sick skateboarding skills. Exaggerated after Lostbelt 5.2 due to the reveal that Wodime is a Dork Knight. Ironically, Daybit is never seen in Atlantis and Olympus and Wodime gets himself killed near the end.
- Oh, ORT, it's so good...Explanation Often, if Daybit doesn't show up on a skateboard to save poor Wodime, it's implied to be because he's too busy attempting to fuse with ORT in an, ahem, intimate fashion.
- Kirschtaria giving away Golden Apples.Explanation During the Pre-release campaigns of Atlantis and Olympus, the player would receive Golden Apples from Kirschtaria as a part of the Log-in Bonus. Cue fan-artists drawing him giving away the golden apples or growing them in an orchard.
- Kirschtaria Brodime Explanation (spoilers) When Kirschtaria was first introduced, many players came in fully expecting to despise him as yet another arrogant magus who looks down on the protagonists. Then Olympus came out and revealed that not only is this not the case, but Kirschtaria also actually greatly respects the protagonist. The reveal of his backstory, his true motives, and his more eccentric tendencies, as well as his Heroic Sacrifice in the end to protect the party endeared a lot of players to him.
- The Crypters practice social distancing. Explanation While rather normal during the JP release, the Global version of the first Lostbelt was released amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, with Kirschtaria alone in a room with holograms of the other Crypters. Cue memes that while the Crypters are trying to destroy the Proper Human History, at least they're practicing safety against COVID-19 via social distancing.
- KodacExplanation When you switch around the vowels of Kadoc (which is easy to do for some people who aren't careful when typing), it becomes 'Kodac', and it's spelled similarly to a camera brand (Kodak). Combine with the fact that his Servant, Anastasia, tends to be portrayed as a Camera Fiend, and you get people mistaking Kadoc as a personification of a camera brand or being the camera that Anastasia uses.
- Kadoc wakes up to see XExplanation This is based on how Chaldea has recruited various characters that Kadoc would be familiar with during the two years between his appearances in the main story and joking about the potential comedy of waking up to find the person who beat the crap out of him and put him in a coma or some of the people he worked with casually hanging out in swimsuits.
- Enemy-exclusive
- Goetia was right.Explanation Jokingly claiming that the incineration of humanity is the solution to whatever grievance or problem one has. Usually in response to a really bad joke or Incredibly Lame Pun.
- Zeus' crotch bulgeExplanation When Zeus' full body portrait was revealed, the fandom immediately latched onto his prominent crotch bulge, either jokingly comparing it to other characters they wished had one like Astolfo or having it be subject to Groin Attack.
- Ultimate Floof Explanation (spoilers for Lostbelt 6) In the story, Cernunnos is a rightfully terrifying and extremely powerful monster to fight against. However, he is considered to be utterly adorable by the fanbase, due to essentially appearing as a huge, fluffy ball of fur. Comparisons to other cute and large creatures such as Totoro were quick to follow.
- Mr. Camazotz, the creator of Alter Servants.Explanation (Nahui Mictlān Spoilers!) Camazotz, who received the protagonist's Command Spells from Tezcatlipoca, corrupted at least 2 Chaldea servants (Kingprotea and Beni-enma), changing them into their "Alter" forms. While it's not confirmed that if Nitocris Alter is "born" from him when she's summonable, people are already placing "orders" for further Alter servants, since even without Nitocris there'll be at least another Guardian of the Underworld under his control (Later confirmed to be Ereshkigal Alter).
Gacha-related memes
- Black Keys Explanation The way Grand Order's gacha is set up, most of the time you will be pulling out Craft Essences instead of actual Servants, Black Keys being one of the most common and least useful.
- Mapo Tofu Explanation The drop rate of Black Keys was reduced at the time Extremely Spicy Mapo Tofu was added, thus Mapo Tofu became the new example of a useless Craft Essence from the gacha. Being the Trademark Favorite Food of Kotomine, who's considered the Anthropomorphic Personification of gacha salt, helps.
- Saber Gilles Explanation The Servant equivalent to Black Keys, as he isn't considered very good or useful.
- Spook! Explanation In the 10-pull mechanic in the gacha, one of the cards will be guaranteed a 4* and above. When rolling for featured Servants during rate-ups, getting a 4* or 5* Servant when the orbs turn gold or rainbow only to find out that it wasn't the Servant you wanted is called getting spooked in Reddit, since it usually means that you pretty much lost your chances of getting the featured 5* Servant and wasted your quartz. Bonus points if they still got the 5* Servant in a later card after the 4* Servant was obtained in the same 10-pull.
- Don't spook me Kirei Explanation The standard prayer/good luck chant before drawing cards from the gacha, because some of the most common junks that they receive are either Black Keys (before it was discontinued) and Mapo Tofu, both of them related to Kirei Kotomine (his weapon and Trademark Favorite Food respectively), who has a memetic mocking of 'Yorokobe, shounen' when players didn't get what they want but got his favorite things instead.
- Unlimited Reroll/Waifu/Husbando/Jeanne Works Explanation A common practice among Grand Order players is to restart (reroll) the game in order to get the Servant you want, Jeanne in particular being VERY sought after thanks to her fantastic stats.
- EX/C/E Rank Luck. Explanation Due to the random nature of rolling for Servants and low drop rates for valuable items, players cite the Luck stat from Servant character sheets. EX is great, C is decent, E is terrible.
- OMAE JA NAI!! Explanation Roughly translates in English as: "Not You!!" For Saber Wars, when the rate-up summons were the popular and very strong units, Saber Alter and Nero, players instead got a gold Saber card that turned into Siegfried. This then combined with Siegfried's own memetic sumanai.
- It's a bait. Explanation Several times DW releases a "suspicious" gacha with fan-favorites or awesome Servants, making some players blow all their quartz on the gacha ... and despairing afterwards when DW announces a new gacha/event with even more awesome Servants.
- You need a catalyst to summon X. Explanation In Fate lore, you must provide some item that has a connection to your targeted Servant to summon them (i.e. Rin's pendant for Archer EMIYA, Avalon for Altria, etc). So players have joked that if they provide a catalyst, they will be able to summon their targeted Servant. The items used can be anything like a manga/doujin/action figure of a certain Servant, going to their place (Chateau d'If in France for summoning Dantes) or even Servants themselves to summon someone they know (i.e. Hassans in a party for King Hassan).
- Using mayonnaise to summon Hijikata. Explanation One of the most famous Hijikata depictions in Japan is Gintama's Hijikata Toshirou, a weirdo with an incredible fondness for mayonnaise. So when DW released their own version of Hijikata as a limited Servant, this joke cropped up a lot, especially if it was actually successful. The irony is that Hijikata here does have his own Trademark Favorite Food that usually drives people away... and it's takuan/pickled radish. The meme later evolves into mentioning mayonnaise for this Hijikata in addition of takuan. This kinda ascends, whereas a lot of Hijikata's latter appearances in GUDAGUDA sections (in its events or guest starring other events) will make mention of how much he just can't get enough of takuan, ironically making him kind of a toned down Toshirou with different Trademark Favorite Food.
- Similarly, use an Eyecon to summon MusashiExplanation The TV series Kamen Rider Ghost has a collectable item which contains the soul of Musashi within the series (similar to the Class cards of Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA) which can be bought in real life. Thus, people have joked that the vessel of the soul of Musashi would be extremely effective in summoning her.
- Alternatively, people have used thisExplanation From the same TV series, the main's character's soul was used to catalyse Musashi's summoning, so people have reasoned that his catchphrase (which he repeats at the beginning of every episode) would also catalyse Musashi's summoning in the game.
- Using Touken Danshi to summon Nobunaga and Okita. Explanation With the popularity of Touken Ranbu and the common practice of depicting a sword with any series' version of their masters, fans using Touken Danshi to summon their masters is a common sight. In this case, many use Heshikiri Hasebe to summon Nobunaga and Yamatonokami Yasusada to summon Okita.
- Gacha salt.Explanation Even though "salty" is pretty popular slang in all sorts of groups, in FGO it almost always comes from the gacha, because it perfectly describes the emotion you feel when all your efforts to roll your waifu/husbando result in a bunch of 3-stars and Craft Essences.
- Rate Up Is A Lie Explanation FGO's very stingy gacha rate has become a subject of jokes thrown around whenever people whaled and still failed to get what they wanted. While it can be used in other gacha games, FGO's version is usually accompanied with the picture taken from Learning with Manga! FGO featuring Jeanne d'Arc going doomsayer mode, only with her plank rewritten with the phrase. (pictured above)
- Desire Sensor at work Explanation An in-joke about the gacha's seemingly supernatural ability to spit out even multiple copies of higher rarity Servants the player isn't trying to get, but not what the player actually wants, leading to the suggestion the game has some kind of "desire sensor" programmed into it to detect results a player wants and prevent them from coming up to keep them spending. Technically, Desire Sensor is ever-present in any other gacha games, but FGO being infamous for being possibly the game with the stingiest gacha rate amongst gacha game means that the presence of Desire Sensor and its shenanigans is even bigger in FGO.
Maintenance/Post Maintenance/Event Rewards-related memes
- Unlimited Maintenance WorksExplanation Grand Order had a rocky start to say the least; during the first five days after its release, the game was only online for HALF of that time.
- 48 hours Explanation The longest period of maintenence so far, which has become rather infamous
- "So, what happens when the maintenance is over?" Explanation A comic featuring Cobra talking about the end of server maintenance. Has since mutated with Chloe and the female protagonist saying the same thing. "You don't know? That's when maintenance begins."
- ONE RIDER GEM Explanation In celebration of the upcoming Winter Festival in 2017, there was a special log-in bonus courtesy of Ozymandias... in the form of a single Rider Gem. Needles to say, the utter randomness of it made the whole thing go viral.
- Long Servant for maintenance Explanation There is a trend of posting Servants (usually with their Riyo artwork) with their bodies stretched out whenever there is an extended maintenance, with their bodies becoming longer the longer the maintenance goes on. The meme first began on the 2018 during NA's Nerofest, where the maintenance was extended for 18 hours, leading to people posting really long Neros. The crowning moment of the meme, however, was during "The Little Santa Alter" rerun, where the maintenance surpassed the Nerofest maintenance, leading to the game being under maintenance for an entire day, leading to stuff like this.
- Look how they massacred my streak... Explanation When the "The Little Santa Alter" maintenance ended up going for 24 hours, it simultaneously broke every single consecutive login streak in the game, to the bemusement of those who had maintained a perfect record of logins since launch, and preventing anyone from getting the bonus ten tickets for the then-ongoing 8-Million Downloads campaign. Fortunately, compensation was promised and delivered upon by giving those who participated in the campaign all the rewards they missed as a result of the broken streak, preventing the reaction from turning too bitter and acrid.
- 10 Saint Quartz Explanation To celebrate the 1,000 day anniversary milestone, DelightWorks rewarded players with only 10 Saint Quartz, to which the Japanese fanbase responded with anger and mockery, noting that previous day anniversary milestones had better rewards such as Golden Apples, EXP cards, and even rate ups of certain limited 5* servants.
Gameplay-related memes
- One Buster Man Explanation Due to the fact that, in early content and events, sufficiently leveled Berserkers could take out pretty much any enemy in one Brave Chain (if not one Buster attack), fanart would compare them to Saitama and his infamous One-Hit Kill punch. Unfortunately, this died off some time after later content started introducing enemies that wouldn't go down with one chain from a Berserker, relegating the class to a collective Crutch Character.
- The Lancer Curse. Explanation There are staggeringly high amount of players without a golden-rarity Lancer due to the difficulty of acquiring them, since most of them are either limited exclusives or story-unlocked; to put this into perspective, there are currently at least six gold-rarity Sabers able to be summoned anytime. Some unfortunate players eventually started to jokingly attribute this to Lancers' generally poor luck stat, though some players used this as an excuse to use the longtime fan-favorite Cu Chulainn... then jokingly blame their luck on him.
- Grail for Love. Explanation Given the limited rarity of Grail Rare Candy, much debate is on just who gets grail ascended. While there are a few characters who are useful in a spreadsheet sense, the general accepted answer is that you grail the character you love to play.
- 80% Explanation A meme in which an attack fails to deal crit damage even though it receives a very high crit rate. Also refering to Hans' Lv 5 Noble Phantasm whenever it fails to buff his allies (even worse if it is highly overcharged yet fails to buff both attack and defense).
- QP Hell Explanation A very common occurence among more experienced players, especially maxing out skills of higher rarity servants like Merlin and Waver (higher rarity servants tend to use a lot of Ascension materials as well as QP), where they discover that they have run out of QP of all things rather than just the materials needed for enhancement. As a result, anyone who tries to mock them or claim that QP is very plentiful quickly tends to get outed as a new player who hasn't really played the game enough.
- Reverse QP Hell Explanation Lottery events tend to give a LOT of QP, enough to overflow the cap and be lost if you don't use as much as you can before the event shop permanently closes
- Bone/Dust Hell Explanation Another common occurrence where the player runs out of Unlucky Bones and Void's Refuse to ascend their servants or max their skills. While they are generally relatively easy to farm, a lot of servants require them for ascension or maxing their skills, including newer servants and especially higher rarity servants. While there are some lottery boxes and event shops that give those out, many event farming nodes generally don't drop them, leaving players to farm those at the downtime between events. Bones are particularly difficult to acquire because the most AP-efficient nodes for farming them, in Fuyuki, have low drop rates but incredibly low AP costs, meaning the only limiting factor is the patience and sanity of the farmer at higher levels. Vlad III Beserker and Fujino Asagami are the biggest offenders of this meme, as the former eats up a total of 216 Bones when maxing all of his skills; while the later uses a bunch of various bronze materials (Bones and Void's Refuse included).
- Buster memes Explanation This has become a common joke among Fate/Grand Order players due to Merlin's overpowered kit; he significantly boosts Buster based servants to the point that he trivializes various challenge quests and makes the gameplay significantly easier for players who have him.
- Arts/Quick memesExplanation A variation of the above meme, featuring Tamamo for Arts and Skadi for Quick.
- Caster BallsExplanation A Fan Nickname given to the generic Hand Blast animation that was used at launch and the game's early stages (mostly given to Casters, hence the name). Often used as a derisive catch-all term for the game's bland animations early on that have stuck with some Servants (usually low-rarity Servants like Mata Hari).
- The Waver ticket.Explanation During the 20 Million Downloads stream, the devs announced a free SSR ticket for any permanent SSR (minus Odysseus and the Dioscuri due to being too recent) of the player's choice. With the extremely useful Zhuge Liang/Waver Velvet being one of the choices, nearly everyone declared it as the "Waver ticket", with jokes at how the already overworked Waver is going to be even more overworked surfacing as well.
- Pick Xiang YuExplanation Since the free SSR ticket includes Xiang Yu, there are fanworks and memes about Yu Mei-ren pressuring the player to pick him over Waver or any other choices.
- HELP! MY FREE SSR IS GONE!Explanation The free SSR obtained starts off as a temporary servant, and must be made permanent by ascending them once and raising their Bond level to 5. Considering the very lenient window of two months to do it, if you lost your SSR, pretty much everyone agrees that you're an extremely incompetent idiot who had it coming. Even if you picked your SSR at the latest possible time, that's still one month to fulfill the conditions.
- 2018: Year of Quick Explanation The game's 3rd Anniversary in 2018 introduced Scathach-Skadi, the long-awaited Quick support, and redefined the game's farming meta for 2 years until 2020 arrived and... see below.
- 2020: Year of Arts Explanation The game's 5th Anniversary in 2020 introduced Altria Caster, being a ridiculously loaded Arts support with all the tools Arts really appreciates to farm a lot more reliably, redefining the farming meta far more significantly than Skadi and Quick once did.
- 2021: Year of Buster Explanation (slight spoilers for Lostbelt 6) The game's 6th Anniversary in 2021 introduced Koyanskaya of Light, with a very powerful skillset intended to help out Buster servants in fast and reliable farming. Later on, the Avalon le Fae Conclusion Campaign introduced Oberon, the first Pretender servant, and also sporting a very powerful skillset intended for Buster farming. Although unlike Altria Caster and Arts effectively dethroning Quick farming, Koyanskaya and Oberon simply make Buster farming every bit as viable as Arts and Quick farming.
- NP Charge Explanation A Japanese meme about how many of the later Servants have at least one skill that increases their NP gauge to the point that it almost seems mandatory for them to be able to charge it. This meme even extends to Rank Up quests, as of the six rank ups that happened during the release of "Sea Monster Crisis" and pre-release of "Mississippi Mythicizers", five of them charge up their NP gauges.
- We've got wyverns!Explanation Story-only nodes did not become available until Babylonia, resulting in many story chapters abruptly shifting to a fight just so gameplay could be included. Orleans was particularly infamous for its onslaught of wyvern enemies, turning it into the face of this meme. It's become something of a joke in the game too, with Las Vegas and Olympus both quoting the meme.
Miscellanous memes
- "Fuck off Reddit." Explanation Someone on 4chan datamined the gacha used for the guaranteed 5 star servant and pasted a slightly transparent sign saying "Fuck Off Reddit" on it because of a perception that a reddit poster was claiming the anon's datamine. Said reddit poster took the bait and posted the datamine as it was, and was appropriately made fun of. Japanese posters, who were also looking for info in 4chan, found it and started typing the letters out in English without understanding what they were and wondering if the gacha was real or not. After that, every leaked picture of new events/Servants has this label.
- FGO chibis. Explanation A lot of people are very fond of posting Servant chibis in the style of Learn With Manga! while posting in imageboards. The April Fools events just made the chibis even more popular, since now, there's official chibis for everyone.
- TWO YEARS Explanation The North American version launched two years after the original Japanese version, and as it quickly became apparent that the NA version was in no rush to catch up, this became a mantra for people who wanted fan-favorites like Semiramis or Miyamoto Musashi as they had to wait that amount of time for anything new and exciting released in Japan.
- It's been 3 years. Explanation The third anniversary event released a Quick Caster support unit and a strengthening for Saber Altria's Instinct; the length of time it took for them to come out resulted in players thinking neither would happen to the point it became a meme.
- After the Japanese version got the "random Servant" feature for My Room in 2018, fanartists used it to get two random Servants, then draw the first cosplaying as the second, frequently with hilarious results.
- RULE BREAKERExplanation Live streams in the Japanese server give a certain amount of quartz a day after. However when someone brings out a replica of the Rule Breaker dagger in a live stream, the game gives away more quartz than intended.
- EX Clairvoyance Explanation Refers to the NA server of this game where players predict which events will happen next because of the NA servers following the same event schedule with the Japanese server, hence much of the playerbase end up saving months worth of free Saint Quartz to roll for their favorite servants such as Merlin, Jeanne Alter, Raikou, Miyamoto Musashi, etc. (In the Fate lore, Clairvoyance is a skill that increases one's accuracy and an essential skill for Archer class servants, and those with higher ranks may have the ability of precognition with this skill (for example, Arash), hence the origin of the meme).
- EX Clairvoyance will go down in two ranks Explanation During the Fate/Grand Order localization panel at Anime Weekend Atlanta in 2018, Albert, the social media manager responsible for Fate/Grand Order's NA localization, referenced this meme and said it will go down in two ranks in the next few months. Some fans speculate that there will be a massive deviation on the event schedule or various quality of life changes and animation updates coming sooner than expected. Regardless, due to the vagueness of this comment, this lead fans to massive hilarious speculation and memes. Although the EX Clairvoyance going down two ranks turned out to be a slight schedule change of events (for example, the Jeanne Alter banner came after the Halloween rerun with 2018's Halloween event that came after whereas the Jeanne banner came after the Halloween events that slightly overlapped with each other. In addition, the Thanksgiving banner does not have a guaranteed gacha, but rather, featuring different limited servants each day, meaning players will not miss out in the SSR servants when the New Year's guaranteed gacha comes in as opposed to last year where the guaranteed gacha was pushed forward into Thanksgiving, making the players miss out on Jack and Mordred).
- When did Fate become Dark Souls?Explanation Fans have noticed that several Servants from the Lostbelts like Ivan the Terrible and Xiang Yu look more like they came out of a Dark Fantasy like Dark Souls.
- The Real-Life Grand Order has started! Explanation Due to the resemblance between halos and Goetia's Noble Phantasm in the title screen, a Running Gag among the fandom is to look out for halos as a way to find out that they are now Masters drafted for the Grand Order... not before proceeding to joke about busting out their wallets/credit cards for summons. Case in point.
- "Goodbye Korea!"Explanation During the Babylonia release in the Korean servers, many Korean players were outraged when it was discovered the roll rates for 4* and above Servants were made worse by the publishers for the Korean servers. In response, many players refused to play the game, heavily slowing down the subsequent Solomon event. Redditors quickly joked that if the Korean servers didn't defeat Solomon, then the Korean servers would be shut down because Solomon successfully invoked the Incineration of Humanity to destroy it.
- Jokes Are Deepest Lore. Explanation Many early concepts done in jest are often explored more in later installments; more seriously.
- Winter is coming Explanation The Lostbelt 5 teaser reveals its tentative date which is in winter. Players borrowed the words of House Stark ("Winter is coming") because it's expected to be the Wham Episode of Part 2, since this Lostbelt is under Wodime who is said to be the strongest among the Crypters and the Alien God's chosen one to lead humanity. Turns out to very much be the case.
- ENDLESS BATTLE Explanation Dumuzid, the Mesopotamian god who is associated with shepherds, appears in Battle of New York 2019 as a golden sheep and as one of the shopkeepers. He even spouts random English words such as aforementioned "ENDLESS BATTLE", "PRESENT START", "GOOD JOKE", "FORGOTTEN" etc.
- ENDLESS FLUFF Explanation Because Dumuzid took the form of a giant golden sheep, a lot of fanart was made of the master of Chaldea falling asleep or simply resting on his wool.
- Halloween is cancelled Explanation Several people were shocked when it was announced that there was no Halloween event for 2019 in the JP server. Instead, the event was a sequel to Saber Wars and it's one of the few events that has no Welfare Servant. Nasu himself even jokingly explained that Halloween ended in the Heisei era after the Japanese calendar transitioned to the Reiwa era since April 2019.
- "X has been left behind in the Heisei era." Explanation Due to Nasu jokingly proclaiming that Halloween was left there when there was no new Halloween Event for 2019, fans have turned it into a snowclone regarding anything.
- The State of NA Explanation Named after a particularly infamous post on Reddit which was basically a compilation of the issues the North American server had during its first year, mainly with reduced SQ rewards and slow pacing. Noawadays it's mostly used to poke fun at people who overreact at every single issue, and is sometimes even spun into "The State of JP" whenever it's the Japanese server that's having issues.
- 10am Explanation For the New Years 2019 event, the game started using real time to calculate renovation points. This lead to a rather annoying bug for players outside of Japan where after completing a free quest, the game would become unresponsive, forcing them to restart the app. This was found to be a timezone issue, and people fixed by either setting their timezones to JST, or by waiting until after 10am of their respective timezone.
- We're taking back our future. Explanation As FGO characters become more popular, Google searches tend to include them in the front and their pictures, especially for more obscure legends. Thus tying in the original Arc Words.
- This is where our Whale Gacha money went. Explanation Comment on how the state of the art stunning special effects in PVs and animations like Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia were likely paid for with the 4 Billion Dollars that the game has made.
- Did you know Team Desert Beauty has never won a single round? START YOUR ENGINES Explanation During the NA Rerun of the Dead Heat Summer Race! event, many websites pointed out that the racing duo of Nitocris and the Caster of Nightless City was the only team to not win a single round on any previous iteration of the event on any server, and many vowed to try to push them to first place in the third round of the race, where they'd have good rewards for being in the top three anyway. It doesn't hurt that the usual top dog, Team Tyrannical Shooting Star, consists of two polarizing characters in the form of Caster Nero and Rider Alter, and many were actively rooting against them as a result. There was much rejoicing among fans once Team Desert Beauty won the third race, no doubt as a result of websites bringing attention to them never winning before.
- Welcome to my Chaldea - We have [x]Explanation A meme template where players invite others to their Chaldea by displaying some of their Servants with often silly nicknames or categories (i.e. displaying Nero(s) as "umu" or "Padoru").
- Paying tribute to the search results of historical figures that have been freshly turned into servants. explanation Because of FGO's long-reigning popularity, time has shown that once a historical figure gets turned into a servant, their search results will become dominated by images from FGO and fan art of the character, especially if the historical figure is not well-known. Obviously this doesn’t happen as soon as the servant is announced, giving people enough time to screenshot the search results and jokingly pay their respects before the inevitable changes.
- Rie Takahashi's PogChamp face Explanation The Chaldea Broadcasting NA stream before the release of the third Lostbelt had Rie Takahashi and Noriko Shitaya on as guests. They had some very spirited reactions to some of the English terms that Albert and the game director used, repeating a few key terms themselves. In particular, a still image of Takahashi saying "Saint Quartz!?" went viral in the community, especially for the similarity between her facial expression in the image and the PogChamp Twitch emote, as can be seen here.
- 2021 is the year of dead memes/meme-slaying. Explanation Many fans have referred to 2021 as such due to the huge number of Discredited Memes not just in FGO, but also for the Nasuverse as a whole with an actual release date for the Tsukihime remake.
- Buddy Ring (GOLD) Explanation During 2022 Valentines, a relatively minor though unique Command Code called the Buddy Ring (GOLD) was released. Cue fanartists treating it like a Wedding Ring.
- Toranoana in the AbyssExplanation The moment sales for Chica Umino's Oberon Comiket 100 doujinshi (which consists of 94 pages of design drafts for him) came out on doujin website Toranoana, sales shot through the roof so high, it broke the day's sales records and its first online run sold out in hours with 63,000+ copies sold. Cue many jokes about Oberon being so powerful he "sent Toranoana into the Abyss". In comparison, Takeuchi's book had slightly over 1000 copies sold and Wada Arco's was in the 900s on that day.
- Grand Berserker Usada PekoraExplanation Once Promoted Fangirl Usada Pekora was announced as the ambassador for the Japanese server's 8th Anniversary real-life event a number of hololive fans also playing Grand Order started cracking this joke due to how chaotic Pekora can be, especially during her own Fate/Grand Order livestreams. Coincidentally, the Grand Berserker seat just so happened to be vacant after Tezcatlipoca took the Grand Assassin seat at King Hassan's request...
Wishlist/Prediction-related memes
- [POPULAR SERVANT] WHEN? Explanation A common reaction from some players every time a new batch of Servants was released, which began primarily from the non-appearance of Iskandar in those releases. The Fate/Zero collab cashed in all the hype that people had for him. To make it worse, he was the only limited Servant of the event. The meme got ascended a little during the All the Statesmen! event; while Altera is 'masquerading' as Wyatt Earp, the protagonist can reply with "Oh, come ON! Wyatt Earp Servant when!?" Variants of the meme include:
- SEMIRAMIS WHEN? Or ACHILLES WHEN? Explanation They're the fan-favorite Apocrypha characters that were unavailable in the game for a long time. Achilles had been expected for a long time as he makes a non-playable cameo in Alexander's interlude and his two rivals (Hector and Penthesilea) were already in the game. With Semiramis, it became a common joke that she'd appear after an Amakusa gacha, a reference to her love for him. Or alternatively for both, when Apocrypha ended airing in Japan and received a collab event. Both versions are now Discredited Memes, since Semiramis became the focus for Valentine 2018 and Achilles became playable during the Fate/Apocrypha collab event.
- BERSERK ATALANTE/ATALANTE ALTER WHEN? Explanation After the airing of Episodes 21 and 22 of Apocrypha, the demand for an 'alternate' Atalante after using her other Noble Phantasm, Agrius Metamorphosis, got a rise. This became discredited, as Atalanta Alter was released along with the first Lostbelt chapter.
- SITA WHEN? Explanation Many players expected Sita to appear in the India Lostbelt since she's an Indian servant and they want her to be reunited with her beloved husband, Rama. Except she never appears in the entire Lostbelt at all despite Rama being one of the major Servant allies.
- Curse of Separation EX/Mad Jealous Rama/Bruh-Mastra Explanation The lore explanation of the above was that both Rama and Sita were hit with Curse of Separation, making them a very tragic pair of Star-Crossed Lovers that will never be together. And then, Sita actually became summonable... in the Arcade, where there is no Rama. Fans take it that Rama is very annoyed at his Curse of Separation and continues to curb down his anger and jealousy whenever he sees another Happily Married couple (such as Sigurd and Brynhild, who finally were able to reunite and be the happy couple they dreamed of) because he's constantly denied of his chance to reunite with Sita. Because of this, the phrase 'Bruh-Mastra' also gets an increase of usage with this situation, since it's just one letter away from Rama's NP (Brahmastra) and it put the emphasis of Rama's frustration on his separation issues. Furthermore, when several Arcade Servants got included in mobile thanks to the collaboration event... Sita is still not amongst the included summonable Servants (she can be equipped as an accessory only for that event), whereas they had time to include a brand-new Servant, Locusta. You can definitely imagine just how further annoyed Rama is for getting yanked yet again.
- MURAMASA WHEN?Explanation After his stellar scene of using his Noble Phantasm against Amakasa in Shimosa, there was a huge demand of him being a playable Servant. Like Sita, his supposed playable debut was deemed long overdue and many players kept hoping he would appear in future events and storylines with some speculating that he might show up when the third Heaven's Feel movie was released. As it turned out, he actually made an appearance in the Atlantis Lostbelt, a few months before the final Heaven's Feel movie was originally scheduled, albeit as one of the Foreign God's Disciples. This became a Discredited Meme after he was revealed to be the game's 2021 New Year servant.
- Swimsuit X when? Explanation A common yearning of certain fans to have a summer version of each of their favorite Servants who are yet to get theirs. Even newer Servants are not safe from this.
- Male Swimsuit when? Explanation Similar to above demanding a summer version of a male Servant like EMIYA and Gilgamesh. Starting from 2018, the game would release summer variants of the male characters, but as alternate costumes, not brand new Servants, which kept the meme alive. Of the boys that recieved one, Robin Hood and Edmond Dantes were the only boys to get a swimsuit-themed costume, while everyone else (Gilgamesh, Siegfried, Merlin, Kotarou, EMIYA, Gao Changong, and Sigurd) stuck to casual wear. Odder is their decision to showcase swimsuits for the entire male side of the Round Table in 2019 as cameos, yet still promote them with cardboard standouts and merch as if they were implemented (although Lancelot, Gawain, and Tristan would eventually get swimsuit costumes in 2023). Chief amongst this is 'Hawaiian Shirt Cu Chulainn', which has garnered popularity since Fate/hollow ataraxia and even made appearance in Carnival Phantasm, and yet DelightWorks has never bothered to give Cu this alternate outfit.
- SWIMSUIT OKITA WHEN? Explanation A Running Gag amongst the GUDAGUDA Servants was that Okita, being a well-loved 5-Star Servant, wished she could get a swimsuit alternate for her. And DW continued to yank her from the chance of getting it, Nobunaga stole the chance in 2017 Summer, and while Nobu got her 'comeuppance' (sort of) and Okita popped up wishing she'll get her chance next year... that didn't come to pass, as the Japanese Swimsuit Servants in 2018 were Ushiwakamaru and Ibaraki. And in 2019, once again she missed out the 'Japanese Swimsuit Servant' entry, beaten out by Musashi, Osakabe-hime AND Hokusai, but not after Okita expressed her lack of swimsuit variant in the fourth GUDAGUDA event which ran before the 2019 Summer. Okita's lack of swimsuit variant (or being constantly denied for it) became a running joke within the fandom and at the same time, also made her a most requested Servant to get a Swimsuit variant. It's now a Discredited Meme after the Summer 2019 TV CM revealed she finally has her swimsuit.
- OKITA STRENGTHENING WHEN!? Explanation A Spiritual Successor of the lack of Swimsuit Okita that popped up after Japan's 5th Anniversary. Okita is one of the earlier year Servants whose kit was effective enough that she never ever received any Strengthening or Interlude Quests. The fans were left frothing for the strengthening of Okita to make her even stronger or at least not look like she has an archaic skill set. And she was constantly denied of it as well, with the 5th Anniversary Strengthening Campaign seeing that Musashi once again stole her spot (followed by Sigurd, who missed out his chance in the Strengthening Campaign, only to be revealed that he got one to match his appearance in Summer 2020 event, so fans take it that Okita got backstabbed twice by fellow 5 Star Sabers). It was enough that Okita's name trended and her voice actress expressed her surprise, feeling of deja vu and disappointment that Okita got snatched from her chance again and that it trended in Twitter Japan. This was swiftly killed off as Okita finally did receive a Strengthening at October 2020.
- GORILLA KONDOU ISAMI WHEN??Explanation Kondo is actually one of the hypothetical Servants that Okita could summon using her unused Noble Phantasm Flag of Sincerity, which would summon all of the Shinsengumi members to fight for her. With FGO being a phenomenon in the 2010's, many of the players are also more familiar with Gintama, and amongst the major Shinsengumi members (Kondou, Hijikata and Okita), only Kondou was absent, with many lamenting that it was Saitou who became playable in GUDAGUDA 5 as the Shinsengumi representative (when he was actually more minor in Gintama. 90's fans, on the other hand, were overjoyed for him, because Saitou was the biggest Shinsengumi representative of that era thanks to Rurouni Kenshin), followed by Yamanami in GUDAGUDA 7 (but he's not included in the Gintama cast), then Shinpachi in GUDAGUDA 8 (but he's not amongst the main Shinsengumi group, but instead the main characters group). The meme's fullest form is when fandom wishes that Kondou Isami should take elements from Kondou Isao, up to being built like a Gorilla (and have a Gorilla/Triple Buster deck), or having stalker tendencies, with the other side of the fandom either joining the flow or reminding that Gintama was a very loose, not accurate take, of the Shinsengumi and the FGO renditions of Hijikata and Okita weren't carbon copies of the Gintama renditions (Hijikata is not obsessed with mayonnaise, and though he does like takuan a lot, it didn't override his other traits. Okita is not at all a sadist, even in her darkest form), so FGO shouldn't just copy Gintama wholesale (Not to mention elements of Kondo's 'Gorilla build' and 'Stalker' can be somewhat found in Napoleon, a muscular guy that did his best to impress certain ladies, though not in a creepy stalker way.). Regardless of that, Kondo remains as one of the most requested Servants to appear in FGO, but bonus points if he turns out to be like a Gorilla.
- Shinjuku Salter when? Explanation Saber Alter and Jeanne Alter showed up in Epic of Remnant in new outfits that were met with an overwhelmingly positive critical response from players. Jeanne Alter eventually got hers as an alternate costume for the Da Vinci and The 7 Counterfeit Heroic Spirits 2018 rerun. Saber Alter, on the other hand, has yet to get hers (many believe that she should've gotten hers during the "Saber Wars" rerun just two months after). While not as popular as her Avenger rival, Saber Alter is still very much a Breakout Villain, so the aforementioned phrase has become an obligatory comment of sorts whenever fanart of her in her Shinjuku outfit is posted. Now a Discredited Meme with DW finally releasing the costume dress on Feb 1, 2020.
- Skip NP when? Explanation Some fans are just not into the Noble Phantasm animation sequence. It's even acknowledged in Learning with Manga. When this issue was brought up to the developers in an interview, their response was basically Hahaha No. The closest we get to this feature is Bunyan's NP that only has 2 seconds of animation.
- Saber buff when? or Instinct upgrade when? or Avalon when? Explanation A common yearning of players, especially the fans of Saber Altria to fix her Power Creep-ed status, especially for an upgrade of her Instinct skill like MHX and MHX Alter got. The 3rd Anniversary more or less killed this meme by giving Saber Altria the much-needed Instinct upgrade... although there are still other Servants stuck with vanilla Instinct (example: Mordred) and some are still clamoring for a buff that uses Avalon in some form. Was further discredited when Mordred got Cigarette Knight to replace Instinct, and Altria's Mana Burst was later upgraded to Dragon Reactor Core B, which adds an NP Damage buff and also converts all of Altria's currently available command cards to Buster.
- Animation Update When?! Explanation After DW made a habit of reworking the sprites and animations for various servants, many began begging for animation updates on some of their favorite servants, in particular Servants available since launch that only had basic animations. While many have been updated, plenty of Servants are still highly requested.
- Ushiwakamaru's Animation Update. Explanation A now dead meme stemming from Ushiwakamaru being one of the most requested Servants to get an Animation update due to her popularity and overall usefulness. Yet until the Little Big Tengu event, she had no animation update, even when the Babylonia anime was airing (to put into perspective, Ushiwakamaru's animation update came out almost a year after the Babylonia anime). Not helping the case is that Marie, Caesar, and Fionn got an Animation Update before her. To take it even further Both Stheno and Euryale will got an animation update years before her, one of whom (Stheno) is one of the least-loved Servants in the game by the fanbase.
- "This is for not giving me an animation update, DW!"Explanation (Spoilers!!) Ushiwakamaru's long awaited adult form finally appeared during Lostbelt 5.5 Heian-kyo after being teased as far back as Onigashima...as an Avenger. Jokes about how the reason she turned into one involve her still not having an animation update for her younger version abounded pretty much instantly. Humorusly, Rider Ushiwakmaru got her long-awaited animation update the same day her Avenger version became summonable.
- Leonidas' Animation Update. Explanation While not as requested as Ushiwakamaru's, Leonidas is considered one of the Launch Servants desperately in need of an update. After his Adaptation Expansion in the Babylonia anime gave him a very impressive Defiant to the End Heroic Sacrifice against Gorgon shortly before Ushiwakamaru's own Heroic Sacrifice, many began clamoring for him to get an Animation Update too.
- Animation Updates Never. Explanation After March 2022 to today as of this writing (a bit more than a full year), there hasn't been any Animation Updates to servants at all, It doesn't help that Lasengle are Radio Silent on them without an explaination to why, Tesla was the last servant to get an Full Animation Update.
- Mooks Animation Update. Explanation To add insult to injury, the only ones who are reciving some kind of Animation Updates during this time period are..... a few regular mooks and mini bosses (Which includes the Camelot Knights, Dolls, Golems and Giant Ghosts) Needles to say, people who are waiting to actual Animation Updates for Servants did not take this very well.
- "[X] is a Massive Ghost? RIP their chances of playability."Explanation Whenever an antagonistic Servant summons or transforms into a Massive Ghost, players take it as a sign that the developers have not created the assets or do not plan to make them playable any time soon. This is especially prevalent because the only cases that did get Promoted to Playable are Ereshkigal, Bartholomew Roberts, Ashiya Douman, and Xu Fu (Douman having been slated for release ever since the beginning of Cosmos in the Lostbelt), while Dark Marie and other assorted Servants remain unplayable.
- X will be a Saberface. Explanation Due to the sheer number of Saberfaces in the franchise, fans have started to predict who the next Saberface will be, with female Merlin being one of the characters that fans believed would be a Saberface. Her having the same voice actress as Altria certainly lent weight to this theory. This was Jossed in 2020 when her FGO Arcade exclusive unit revealed that she’s actually a Merlin-face.
- The "Sea Monster Crisis" event welfare will be three Kons in a trench coat. Explanation The event's free Servant wasn't initially revealed, prompting a joke theory that the event's cute creature allies would become the new Servant. This ended up being exactly the case, albeit via Hive Mind rather than Totem Pole Trench.

- Sandstorm Explanation Camelot's earlier stages have a notorious sandstorm that greatly drops frame rates of the game. Many call it "The Rude Sandstorm", alluding to Darude's "Sandstorm".
- Furries!! Explanation The first Lostbelt chapter is filled with Yagas (chimeric people who are fused with beasts), most of who are wolfmen. One of them, Patxi, is very liked for his character.
- Man With a Mission Explanation The wolfmen also remind the fans of this band's wolf mask gimmick. Also, they have a song titled "Stella".
- GIVE ME MORE, BARBATOS◊ Explanation (Spoilers) The final Singularity in part 1 features a global raid against the Demon Pillars. Because Barbatos (the Assassin pillar) had the best drops (gears, demon hearts, pages), Masters in dire need of those materials literally farmed him to death. And since the Gundams in IBO share the same naming scheme with the Demon Pillars, a crossover was inevitable (though the context of the quote featured is different). It should also noted that Barbatos buffs other pillars with a pierce invulnerability buff, a buff that is considered to be annoying for most players, which is why he often goes down quickly for most players gameplay-wise. This is repeated in the Lady Reine's Case Files event; where he was about to die the first day of a multiple day raid (at a million deaths per hour); so DW had to quadruple his hit points.
- How to counter Cosmic Horrors or Eldritch Abominations? Use giant robots.Explanation The final boss of the Salem event is a Foreigner-Class Servant, which is weak to Alter Egos. Mecha Eli-chan is a welfare Alter Ego with a triple Buster Deck. Add Merlin for Tengen Toppa Mecha Eli-chan, and two Merlins for Super Tengen Toppa Mecha Eli-chan. The result? What should be a climactic final battle turns out to be something out of Pacific Rim or Getter Robo.
- The Lostbelt No. 3 ExperienceExplanation The battle against Qin Shi Huang in the third Lostbelt is often regarded by many as That One Boss, thanks to the fact that his persistent buff and Noble Phantasm ramp up his attack power to the point where he instantly kills Avengers in a single hit despite the class disadvantage as a Ruler, much to the sheer horror of players who thought bringing them would trivialize the fight, or at least make it simpler.
- Lostbelt 4 When? Explanation After Lady Reines Case Files ended, players expected that Lostbelt 4 would come next due to the release of a Daily Class Banner during the spare time for the next announcement (Daily Class Banners were previously released before a main chapter release) and that it had been months since Lostbelt 3 release. When a new Mystery Event was announced, the players started to ask when Lostbelt 4 would be released. The fact that the waiting time between Lostbelt 3 and 4 has the longest waiting period between main chapter releases (6 Months) didn’t help.
- DW doesn't want Nasu to end FGO. Explanation On this Interview, Nasu stated that the end of Part 2 will leave players with a sense of loss like he felt at the end of Final Fantasy IV. Some players interpreted this to mean that FGO will end on Part 2. When the wait for Lostbelt 4 was getting long, players started joking that DW was delaying the main chapters on purpose to prevent Nasu from finishing Part 2.
- Who let Sanzang drive?!Explanation Since Xuanzhang Sanzang's story is all about taking the most roundabout route from China to India imaginable, the jokes about her somehow being responsible for the wait between the two Lostbelts write themselves.
- Lostbelt 4 exists! Explanation On June 4, 2019, the Lostbelt 4 pre-release campaign was announced which prompted the fandom to cheer, "Finally!" after 6 months of waiting for the next main chapter to be released.
- Lostbelt 4 is Dragon Ball ZExplanation Many players compare the final battle between Super Karna and Arjuna Alter to a Super Saiyan battle due to the flashy animation and high-powered stakes.
- The Brexit Lostbelt Explanation Due to being a massive Crapsaccharine World of Jerkass, it's often joked about how the separation of Britain from the European Union led to the creation of the Avalon le Fae Lostbelt.
- Many Christmas-related jokes for Lostbelt #7 Explanation After it gets confirmed that Lostbelt #7 shall be released on Christmas Day 2022, many Christmas-related jokes end up happening such as Ritsuka deciding to visit Brazil for Christmas, or Daybit being Santa himself. This was actually foreseen by the developers as Rasputin says "Merry Christmas" only if played on the actual holiday itself.
- Arcueid help us.Explanation Upon finding out just how outclassed they are in the battle with ORT/Type-Oort Cloud, the playerbase promptly shat themselves and started praying for something, mostly Arcueid/Archetype Earth, anything, to get them through the nightmare that is Lostbelt 7.
- Permadeath.Explanation Within an hour of players finding out about ORT/Type-Oort Cloud at the end of Lostbelt 7 Part 1 during launch day, a rather infamous rumor spread among the players, saying that Servants that died fighting it will be locked out for the rest of the story nodes due the unique death animation where they turn into green crystals and get absorbed instead. With no way of confirming due to it being the last fight before the timegate, this infamous rumor is debunked for the time being. While there is a bit of a permadeath mechanic, it's only within the raid bosses against ORT. Other than those raid fights, you can freely use any servant you want to even if they died during a fight.
- YOU'RE GOING TO BRAZIL.Explanation Lostbelt 7 is located in the Amazon Rainforest, where not only Beast VII/U-Olga Marie sinks the Shadow Border, but is also filled with dinosaurs who have replaced humanity and Aztec deities roaming round, culminating in the appearance of ORT/Type-Oort Cloud. Because of this, memes relating of not wanting to be in Brazil popped up quickly, due to Brazil's infamous reputation as a Place Worse Than Death in real life.
- ORT is fine, but the Alter Egos have to go.Explanation (Major Nahui Mictlān Spoilers!) The fanbase quickly became amused by the fact that the Human Order is blocking Novum Chaldea from entering Antarctica because they abused the summoning of Rulers, Avengers, and Alter Egos, but it's seemingly fine with them summoning Foreigners and Pretenders, who are outright stated to be enemies of the Human Order, including the most recent Foreigner Servant, Kukulkan, who is the sentient heart of ORT.
- "Oh, no! Anyway..." (summons another Alter Ego)Explanation (More Spoilers.) Fans were quick to note that the event immediately following this "you shouldn't have Extra Class Servants" plot bomb was a collab with Arcade, with the poster Servant being an Alter Ego. The problem? Said Alter Ego was Tiamat, who has been in high demand ever since the Seventh Singularity. A good many players promptly ignored the implications and pulled for Beast Mommy, with many joking that the Human Order wasn't impressed. Another variation of the meme involves Popess Johanna, who is a Ruler and whose debut event was announced two days after Ordeal Call Prologue’s release.
- "I don't think this is helping to prove our innocence in the Ordeal Call."Explanation (3rd serving of Spoilers) Soon after Tiamat was released, the actual Arcade collab came and introduced of all people, Queen Draco, who isn't an Alter Ego but an actual Beast Class Servant, which is strong against the regular 7 classes but weak to all the Extra classes bar Shielder. Players decided to joke about the Human Order frothing at the mouth while they try to summon the first Beast Servant in the game.
- Ordeal StallExplanation After starting with a strong first half with the releases of LB 7 and Ordeal Call I, the second half of 2023 was considered very lacking by many players as event reruns are no longer possible along with relatively few new events and content in general. Combined with the infamous low cap of Ordeal Call tickets coercing players to do Ordeal Call runs in the middle of events to make room which interrupted their usual event farming, this term came into existence to describe the pacing so far.

- DW hates dudes. Explanation With many of the 4* and 5* servants composed mostly of girls and Medb's exhibition round punishing you for using male servants, some people have come to this conclusion.
- Nasu's still got it. Explanation This appears whenever story content written by Nasu concludes and fans are left very satisfied with the story, be it the emotional aspect, epicness, or jokes inside.
- LasagnaExplaination Admittedly, the developing company taking over from Delightworks, Lasengle, has a name that's easily misspelt and/or mispronounced, so most western players end up referring to Lasengle as 'Lasagna'. And of course, make Garfield jokes about it since lasagna is Garfield's Trademark Favourite Food.
- LazengannExplanation Another way of referring to Lasengle. Typically followed by "OVERLOOOOOOAD!" thanks to Lordgenome's Dying Moment of Awesome in the final battle.
- Intern-kun and the NA 6th AnniversaryExplanation The 6th anniversary for NA was especially buggy. First, the Super and Great Success EXP rate increase for Servants were much, much, much higher than the stated 3x, with Great Successes happening almost every time. This bug was patched out several hours later in an emergency maintenance, though by then most players already leveled their roster. After that patch, players discovered an exploit where they could get 10 SQ from each extra mission repeatedly. Again, this was patched out in another emergency maintenance, and the extra SQ where taken away from players. The playerbase quickly claimed that the bugs were the work of "Intern-kun," who was either a bumbling incompetent accidentally helping with their constant screw ups, or an unsung hero trying their best to help against the wishes of Lasengle executives.
General/Group Servant-related memes
- [X] Santa Lily. Explanation After the sheer adorableness that 2016's Christmas event brought with the introduction of Jeanne Alter Santa Lily, many fans took it upon themselves to make Santa Lily versions of their favorite Servants in the hopes that the next year might make one of them real.
- Genderbent Chaldea. Explanation The sheer amount of genderbent female Servants appearing in Chaldea had some fans wondering about an event where these Servants unexpectedly turn into their historical counterpart's gender. While some versions have the Masters try to reverse the curse, others fully embrace the change and turn this new Chaldea into a BL or Otome-styled facility.
- Who's this Servant you speak of? I only see a Mana/Rare Prism.Explanation Some Low-Tier Letdown servants such as Siegfried, Stheno (both pre- and post-buff), and Fionn are often joked as being more useful as Rare Prisms than in gameplay.
- "The Archer class is really made up of Archers." Explanation "Archer" in general refers to those use bows and arrows. However, within the game and setting, there are just as many Archer Servants who uses anything other than bows and arrows, as long as it's ranged weapon. Even swords getting thrown also count as 'archery', therefore fans like to mock that concept.
- Sabers fire beams! Explanation Similar to the "Archers don't actually use bows" meme, the Saber class is often joked about being made of Servants who just shoot beams with their swords instead of fighting in melee with them. The joke got new material when Okita Souji's Alter form (whose NP has a Sword Beam unlike her vanilla self) was implemented in the game as an Alter Ego servant, leading players to treat the class change as a Mind Screw; how could a Saber who fires beams not be a Saber?
- Ruler HeartGold and Ruler SoulSilverExplanation Qin Shi Huang Di and Samba Santa Quetzalcoatl look a lot like Lugia and Ho-oh when placed side by side. Not helped by both of their events being released at nearly the same time, much like the games the meme reference.
- The seven bronzes are the real 4th Anniversary Servants. Explanation The spotlight Servant of the 4th Anniversary was intended to be Rider Da Vinci. However the addition of seven new low-rarity Servants to the FP gacha for the first time since launch, many of whom were fan-favorites and all of whom had unique skills and animations to make them stand out, garnered far more attention.
- Hassan of the Sliced Onions Explanation Fate's version of the "onion-cutting ninja" meme, in which crying at a Tear Jerker is blamed on someone cutting onions out-of-sight
- Altria Grail War Explanation With the release of Altria Caster, players immediately joked that there were now enough Altria-clones to fight an entire Grail War with just her alternate versions.
- Overworked Support Servants Explanation Waver, Tamamo, Merlin, Skadi, Caster Altria, Koyanskaya of Light, Reines, Oberon, and Andersen are considered some of the most useful Servants in the game, and the sheer amount of mileage Masters get out of them have led to fans portraying the bunch as being forced to do lots of continuous farming and dying from overwork as a result, if Chen Gong doesn't kill them first. These memes are especially popular on the game's dedicated subreddit. Fate/Grand Carnival makes this an Ascended Meme by having the overworked servants go on strike for overworking them.
- Bunny Girl Servants Explanation After the introduction of Ruler Altria, the fandom got flooded with fan art and sprite edits of other female Servants in bunny girl outfits. Now an Ascended Meme with the introduction of Scathach’s Bunny Girl Spirit Dress.
- Type Moon wants your penis. Explanation A joke based on one-sided (as in always male-to-female) gender-flipping of prominent male historical figures in the Fate franchise. May be a Discredited Meme in certain parts of the fandom for those who don’t find the gender-flipping to be an issue, but not so for the fandom in its entirety.
- X character is an XFace. Explanation A Fan Nickname turned meme that’s applied to virtually any character that looks the same as another character. It started pre-FGO with Saberfaces (As in characters that look similar to Altria) but then moved onto other characters with reused character designs such as the Tamamo-no-Mae copies, characters that look like Jeanne (Jeanneface), characters that look like Sakura Matou (Sakuraface), Rin Tohsaka (Rinface) and most recently due to the reveal of female Merlin, Merlinface.
- Sus ClassExplanation (Spoilers for Lostbelt 6) Oberon-Vortigern's class is the Pretender, which can switch into any of the other classes. The name alone caused a spread of memes to appear, including comparisons with Among Us, where impostor(s) pretend(s) to look like crewmate(s), and the game having a lot of memes already, comparisons are inevitable.
- Pretenders singing 'Pretender'Explanation (slight spoilers for Lostbelt 6) The moment the new class name was announced, a number of Japanese fanarts portrayed Oberon, the game's 1st Pretender-class Servant, singing Pretender by Official髭男dism due to the song being the same name of his class, and the first line of the chorus "Goodbye, your fated one is not me" reflects those who failed to get him perfectly. Western versions would have him singing Freddie Mercury's 'The Great Pretender' or any song with the word 'Pretender' in it instead. Later on this meme extended to the other Pretenders as they're released, with the possible exception of welfare Servant Nine-Tattoo Dragon Eliza.
- The Dragon Slaying families. Explanation With the announcement of Fate:Lost Einherjar, which will feature the daughter of Sigurd and Brynhildr, Aslaug, as one of the main characters, it became a trend to depict the three of them together in fanart. This meme was also complimented with the release of Kriemhild in Fate/Grand Order and her my room interactions with Siegfried and Sieg, making them a mirror family to the aforementioned three.
- Hassan of the Giant SpoonExplanation in the 2023 Memorial Movie; one scene has First Hassan surrounded by a group of lesser Hassan/Nizari. One fellow is wielding a scythe, but another nizari's hood behind him makes it look like a giant spoon.
Craft Essence-related memes
- The outfit that Mash wears in the "Dangerous Beast" CE is often put on other characters, both male and female, by fan artists. Most of the art, especially the ones of female characters, tend to be very NSFW.
- This has been a ongoing theme for Halloween. One of the exclusive CEs for the 2017 Halloween event features artwork by the doujin circle ReDrop similar to the "Dangerous Beast" outfit note which was for 2016's event. Prior to it, for 2015's event, there was the "Halloween Princess" note which featured Irisviel Von Einzbern in a succubus guise. For 2017, there is "Trick or Treatment" note featuring Nightingale. For 2018, there is "Royal Icing" note featuring Lancer Altria Alter. They all tend to get popular around fan artists rather quickly.
- And then it was made canon during the ServaFes 2023 event, when Chloe (Avenger) has a variation of Dangerous Beast as her Third Ascension and is given a reason to wear it in the event's main story.
- Useless, just like Shinji Explanation Craft Essences featuring Shinji tend to either have increased debuff resistance or increased debuff success rate, which are less than useful attributes to buff.
Arcade-related memes
- X will be Arcade exclusiveExplanation Fate/Grand Order Arcade has received several exclusive Costume Dresses, including Jeanne d'Arc Alter's Shinjuku dress, and eventually exclusive Servants after Christmas Helena, Proto Merlin and Sita were revealed without an accompanying announcement for them in the mobile version. Because of this, many fans have joked that highly-requested Costume Dresses and Servants will be exclusive to the Arcade version.
- I'll never forgive the Arcade!! (raises hand)/ONORE, ARCADE!Explanation The phrase that accompanies anytime Arcade receives an exclusive that wouldn't be coming to the mobile version any time soon. It's a LOT more prominent in the case of Sita, because in conjunction of the Curse of Separation meme above, the player can easily associate this to Rama. This meme EXPLODED when it was revealed that Tiamat, one of the most highly desired characters to become playable on mobile, instead appeared on Arcade first in a unique Larva form, with even players who weren’t that bothered about the exclusive content, cursing Arcade for getting her first. To make matters worse, she's actually the same Tiamat that mobile players defeated, somehow reborn in the alternate universe of Arcade. So Arcade players didn't just get a Tiamat. They got our Tiamat. The r/grandorder subreddit even has a flair that says "Damn You Arcade" just for these situations alone!!. This was later tone down when it was revealed in FGO x FGO Arcade collaboration event that Tiamat will be also joining in the mobile game as well, though Rama is still not getting Sita.
- Onore Mobile!!!Explanation The Inverted Trope version, in the rare occassion where the mobile version gets something Arcade players want. Most notably with the release of Proto!Merlin's swimsuit version for Summer 2022 on mobile when she's an Arcade-exclusive Servant. Though her being a Pretender-class servant in Mobile while classified as Caster in Arcade might imply something bigger...
- Arcade Suzuka vs Mobile Suzuka Explanation For the 2020 Christmas event in FGO Arcade, they announced that its Santa Servant would be Suzuka Gozen with a gyaru aesthetic and a general cheery, lighthearted attitude. The next week, in a stream for "Mandala of Hell" in the main game, its trailer showed a shot of Suzuka with glowing red eyes, covered in blood and growling. The contrast in tone between the two was quickly noted by fans.
- Sheep yeetingExplanation The FGO: Arcade trailer for Jacques de Molay shows him kicking a sheep like a soccer ball which made many players joke that he and Asclepius are now fast friends because the latter hates his dad, Apollo, who is in sheep form.
- Stupid Sexy NoahExplanation The general reactions to Nemo/Noah’s Final Ascension art and some parts of his profile calling him “sexy”. Fans (especially the Western and Christian ones) have debated whether it crosses the line, or if the art should be more or less “biblically accurate” when it comes to his nakedness and posture, and so forth.
- Drunk Noah / “Where’s my Good Morning Kiss?”Explanation One of Nemo/Noah’s Terminal lines in his Third Ascension has him being drunk while denying that he is drunk and then asking his Master to give him an eye-opening kiss. Combined with his apparent weakness to alcohol, fans have joked that Noah should be prohibited to get drunk or else he would do and say inappropriate things.
- Isn’t it sad? Even Draco forgotExplanation (Spoilers) Players noticed that Noah is the only story-relevant Arcade-exclusive servant to never make any appearance in the Arcade collab at all, barring the event’s Command Support mechanic as Nemo/Noah. In the first days of the collab, Saber Jacques de Molay and Sita made appearances in the story albeit as NPCs, which made fans hopeful for his appearance. However, when the Master’s group reached the flooded Okeanos, a ship appears to give them a ground to stand on...which turns out to be Drake’s Golden Hind, helmed by Altria Lancer Alter using their Wild Hunt connection. And later near the end of the collab’s story, there is a flashback to the finale of Arcade’s Lilim Harlot from Beast of Sodom’s perspective. Everything is preserved... except for Noah’s presence in the scene. His lack of presence in the Arcade collab, coupled with fans’ grievances towards his characterization (see the above memes about him), quickly plummeted him into Memetic Loser status and the resurfacing of his “Grand Jobber” Fan Nickname.
Crossover-related memes
- With the abundance of reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail and the involvement of Arthurian characters here, some of its memes start to leak around here.
- Brought to its logical conclusion in this video, which features all in-game members of the Knights of the Round Table who were also in the movie.
- Fou is the Killer RabbitExplanation Fou's cuteness and hidden badass attitude (especially when Merlin is involved) makes it often compared with the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog, or thinking that they're the same. This is despite Tristan recognizing a similar rabbit named 'Vorpal Bunny' and Fou is actually the Primate Murder, Cath Palug, and it's a different beast altogether.
- Sir Robin Hood. Explanation All of the party members of King Arthur's group from the film are present as Servants (Arthur/Altria, Bedivere, Lancelot and Galahad)... except Sir Robin, who's entirely fictional. There is, however, a Servant whose first name is 'Robin'. So Robin Hood often gets saddled with the role of Sir Robin, further helped with how Robin Hood himself is a Chaotic Good Servant, chivalry ain't his thing and this is often translated to Sir Robin's 'Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot' trait.
- The capital of Assyria.Explanation The otherwise hard-to-answer question that threw Sir Robin to the Gorge of Eternal Peril is rendered absolutely trivial when the game roster includes the frigging Wise Queen of Assyria herself, Semiramis. She can either answer the question easily, or she asks the question instead in place of the Bridgekeeper.
- Revisiting Castle Anthrax A LotExplanation In conjunction with the Galahad the Pervert meme, Galahad's quest was about being utterly tempted in Castle Anthrax, full of beautiful Naughty Nuns trying to take away his purity; eventually, he wanted to give in, but Lancelot came to bail him out. With Galahad resenting Lancelot in-game, people like to infer after somehow escaping from the Gorge of Eternal Peril and before getting into the Throne of Heroes, Galahad paid a visit to Castle Anthrax a lot to satisfy his libido behind Lancelot's back, leading him to have a perverted mind to design Mash's armor.
- FGO x Pokémon CollabExplanation After the Anime Japan 2022 expo showcased a Noble Phantasm animation of the then-unnamed Trung Sisters, many fans point out that they looked like human characters from the Pokémon franchise (particularly Trung Nhi bearing a resemblance to Nessa from Sword and Shield) with the two animals on their hats as well as the elephant within their NP animation looking like actual Pokémon themselves. As a result, many fans begin joking about a Pokémon collaboration event, and it helps that their character designer also worked on the seventh and eighth Generations of the games.
- FGO x Fire Emblem: Three HousesExplanation Because the conflict in Lostbelt 6.5: Traum involved a war between three factions represented with red, blue and yellow, many fans have taken to nicknaming Traum as such. It helps that Constantine XI is drawn by Three Houses's character designer, and each of the faction leaders in the singularity have something in common with the leaders of the three main factions of Three Houses (Constantine XI being an Emperor that wears red outfits like Edelgard, Kriemhild being an Ax-Crazy person with a misplaced desire for revenge like Dimitri after the timeskip, and Don Quixote being far less evil than the other two faction leaders like Claude at least prior to Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes), and it is 'technically' possible to make a Three Houses team consisting of Astraea, Saitou Hajime, Kiichi Hougen, Oberon, and Scheherazade who share voice actors with Female!Byleth, Dimitri, Edelgard, Claude, and Rhea respectively. All that's left is for Male!Byleth and Yuri to become Servants.
- FGO x Black PantherExplanation Lostbelt #7 has drawn comparisons to Black Panther as well as its two films at the time of the Lostbelt's release as not only Izcalli's design drew comparisions to T'Challa, but this Lostbelt has Kukulkan as a servant while Namor from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever gets called Kukulkan by his people.
