The Warlord

    Travis Morgan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4498333_screen_shot_2015_04_09_at_45744_pm.png
A Vietnam veteran who found himself in the magical world of Skartaris, Travis Morgan is a brilliant military strategist and leader, a formidable hand-to-hand combatant, a superb marksman and an extraordinary swordsman.
  • Action Dad: Father of Jennifer and Joshua, even if he wasn't aware the latter was still alive for a long time, and the undisputed champion of Skartaris.
  • Always Save the Girl: Travis can't ignore a woman in distress, although more than one occasion his good intentions have been taken advantage of by enemies.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: His skill with the sword is one of the reasons so many look up to him.
  • Born in the Wrong Century: Travis is a lot happier in the savage Lost World of Skartaris than he ever had been in the 20th Century.
  • Cool Helmet: His signature winged helmet.
  • Cool Sword: His Hellfire sword, which has Anti-Magic properties and was specifically made to slay the Evil One.
  • Gladiator Revolt: Led one alongside Machiste, and that's how he earned his Warlord moniker.
  • Hand Cannon: Morgan's trusty .44 AutoMag, which he uses in combination with his sword. Certainly never standard issue for the USAF.
  • He Cleans Up Nicely: Most of the time he dresses as a barbarian, but on the rare occasions he dresses up, he looks good.
  • Heroic BSoD: Goes into one after believing he killed his own son, not knowing who he killed was a clone created by Deimos.
  • The Hero Dies: Killed by his own son Joshua at the end of the 2009 series, although thanks to subsequent retcons, he's back alive and as the Warlord.
  • Hungry Weapon: The Hellfire sword was cursed so that every time its drawn, it has to taste blood. While Travis tried to get rid of it, he eventually had to take it back.
  • I Choose to Stay: Any time Travis Morgan had an opportunity to return to the surface world, he always to chose to stay (or return, if he was forced back to Earth) in the Lost World of Skartaris, as he felt more at home in Skartaris than he ever had on 20th C. Earth.
  • Identical Stranger: Morgan has two.
    • There's a man native to Skartaris who resembles Travis and has been used by his enemies to take over his kingdom.
    • Travis himself resembles a white-haired version of Green Arrow. During series creator Mike Grell's tenure as GA writer, Travis finds himself in Seattle during one of his brief returns to Earth and has to team up with Ollie and Dinah Lance after dealing with several criminals who mistook him for Mr. Queen.
  • Man in the Iron Mask: Happens to Morgan when he is imprisoned while an Identical Stranger takes his place.
  • Manly Facial Hair: He's got a pretty neat and manly beard that's comparable to Oliver Queen's.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Walks around shirtless while wearing a white loincloth, which is pretty standard for the world.
  • Someone to Remember Him By: His third child, a daughter named Morgana, is born after his death.
  • Stranger in a Familiar Land: Out of date by decades, Travis Morgan experiences this whenever he returns to Earth.
  • Weirdness Magnet: His life got more and more weird the moment he landed in Skartaris.

  • Parent with New Paramour: Already an adult when they meet again, Jennifer can't help but see Tara as her father's wife rather than a second mother. They still get along, though.
  • Second Love: While Travis' relationship with his first wife is not explored in detail, it's quite clear Tara and Travis are very much in love with each other.
  • Skeletons in the Coat Closet: Tara prominently wears a tiara and a belt with a skull motif. The tiara was made by the mother of her childhood friend Graemore.
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: On more than one occasion she punched Travis in the face after not seeing each other in a long time. Then shortly after they kissed.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4097432_tinder_001.png

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/459996_rostov.jpg
  • All Love Is Unrequited: He loves Mariah and she did loved him back, but by the time they reunite, she has already moved on and fallen in love with Machiste.
  • Family Curse: The curse behind his lycanthropy was unintentionally passed from his grandparents, skipped his mother (but not her twin brother), and then manifested on him.
  • Fiery Redhead: Much like Mariah he's a redhead, and either in wolf form or in human form, very fierce in combat.
  • Master Swordsman: He was Mariah's fencing instructor, and even Travis himself knows Mikola is a master swordsman.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: He was cursed to turn into a werewolf during the full-moon. He went to Skartaris hoping the perpetual sunlight would free him of his curse. He eventually went back in time to the age when the land was called Wizard World. There Jennifer Morgan cast a spell that cured him from his werewolf curse. However he can still use his "wolf spirit" in battle.

  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Whenever things are about to get difficult, he invokes a martini and drinks it.
  • Inept Mage: Mongo is an eccentric who has considerable skill at performing small-scale magical feats, but has difficulty in performing large-scale ones. He somehow has knowledge of the Earth of our present day, which enables him to conjure up cigars and martinis for himself.
  • Insistent Terminology: He's a Dwarf, not an Elf.
  • Little People: He claims to be a dwarf alright, but he's a sorcerer, and not a very good one at that.
  • A Wizard Did It: When he suddenly invokes a martini for himself and Mariah asks him about it, he says that with magic anything is possible.

  • Heroic Sacrifice: Stays behind to allow Morgan and the rest of their men to escape from the New Atlantean's trap.

  • The Quiet One: Thanks to the Language Barrier, he doesn't speak much, but other characters can interpret what he means.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Like Travis, he doesn't bother wearing a shirt.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: His entire village was decimated by a plague brought by an infected unicorn, so when he arrives to Travis' time, he has nowhere else to go.

  • Arch-Enemy: No one has caused more pain to Travis Morgan than Deimos.
  • Back from the Dead: Deimos has been brought back more than once, although each time in worse shape than before: first time he had the sword scar across his face; second time, his body was fused with the dog that killed him; third time he was a head on a hand; final time he was a skull in a magical golem body.

    • And much later he didn't expect that Joshua would be able to wield his father's sword, killing him for good.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: He began as a simple, Gollum-esque creature leaving beneath the hideout of another wizard, until the Book of the Dead was accidentally dropped by Mongo, Mariah and Machiste and he found it, slowly becoming a far more powerful entity that began picking off wizards one at the time.
