Element: Fire
Rarity: 4*
Role: Balance
Class: Warrior
Race: Human
Leader Talent: Path to the Stars
Skill: Meteor Break
Gender: Male
VA: Ryōta Ōsaka
A mysterious boy who alights in Starview Village. He has no memory of his past or the world he is from, and he is eager for new knowledge. He is cheery and, oddly enough, a marvelous chef.

Flipperversary Variant
Element: Fire
Rarity: 4*
Role: Healer
Class: Support
Leader Talent: This Calls For a Feast!
Skill: Parfait de Shirano

  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Alk will save anyone he can, that includes even former enemies like Leve.
  • Cool Sword: He wields a named weapon called a Star Breaker that he had ever since he came to Starview Village. It is also the sword the the Lord of Shadow wields.
  • Death from Above: Alk's skill, Meteor Break, has him jump up and strike the enemy from above, damaging everything around him.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: When he first arrived in Starview, he had no recollection of his life before or his homeworld, only vague knowledge of things that should or shouldn't be normal.
  • Nice Guy: Primarily characterized by how cheery and kind he is.
  • Percussive Maintenance: When Stella tells Alk that she doesn't remember how to use the World Flipper, Alk suggests hitting it in case it's not working. Stella's only response is to advise against doing so.
  • Serious Business: Alk is very passionate about cooking.
  • Spell My Name With An S: His name is officially "Alk," not "Arc."
  • Supreme Chef: Alk's culinary skills are held in extremely high regard by multiple characters.
  • Tastes Like Friendship: Several times, Alk has managed to befriend people through food, most notably with Mino, but also to further his relationships with characters such as Nimbus and Rams.
  • Team Chef: Alk is an incredibly good cook, very eager to learn new recipes, and loves to cook for his friends; if there is food in a scene, nine times out of ten, it will be Alk's cooking. Furthermore, quite a bit of his interactions with other characters are defined by his cooking. His Flipperversary variant is even baking-themed to capitalize on this.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Alk as a strong aversion against killing. This actually causes a bit of strain between him and Light, since the former Champion has no qualms eliminating his enemies.

Stella

Girl Enigma

The Broken Goddess
Click to see Stella's Awakened Playable art
Race: Human/Dragon
Gender: Female
VA: Yuuka Aisaka
An enigmatic girl who can activate the World Flipper. Urged on by Alk, she leaves Starview Village to journey across countless worlds. She is frank and guileless, which proves to be both a blessing and a curse.

Playable Version
Element: Light
Rarity: 4*
Role: Supporter
Class: Support
Leader Talent: Found Treasure
Skill: Barrels of Fun

  • Ambiguously Human: In Chapter 5, Stella gets an apparent virus from the bugs infesting Mecha Metropolis and they begin pursuing her and the party, despite the fact that the bugs are mechanical in nature and shouldn't have any effects on organic, living beings. Regis outright questions WHAT she is, and even when the true nature of the "virus" is revealed - that it's the lost memories of the droids reaching out and connecting to Stella, allowing her to direct them - it does nothing to explain how Stella was affected and not anyone else in the party.
    • This also doubles as Foreshadowing, seeing as in the very beginning of episode 2 (after the Lord of Shadow's defeat), her artificial nature is doubled down on by the story revealing she's a creation of the Overlords, made only as a mere tool to purge those who try to cross to different worlds... the very thing she does with Alk and co.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Tends to drop these to villains or people who are hiding something, cutting right to the heart of what they're really after.
The Administrator: (to Dia) "They've been bad - very bad. And they must be punished... They MUST, my Diva! You sing for me, and me alone!"
Stella: "What... are you frightened of?"
  • Catchphrase: She is very excited to be the first one to welcome people to Starview Village, to the point that if anyone beats her to the punch:
Alk: (to Murakumo) Welcome to Starview Village!
Stella: (sadly) Alk! That's MY line…
Alk: Huh? Oh… Murakumo, can I take that back just for a second? You go first, Stella.
  • Hidden Depths: Oh boy, does she ever have this, and she isn't aware of it until far later. Not only does an evil doppelganger share her name, much to her confusion, but said doppelganger gives her back these memories (that are best left forgotten) before shifts in Light's world emerge, remarking that they were the very one who inadvertently doomed the world.
???: ...I am [an] observer and arbiter. Goddess and purger. But all these titles... are unnecessary. So I erased myself. And in doing so I abandoned a part of myself. Or so I thought...
Stella: I am Stella. I am the watcher of the Stars and observer of worlds. I am a tool whose purpose is to purge. A broken tool.
  • Lethal Chef: Contrasting Alk, Stella is absolutely horrid at cooking. This is exaggerated for humor in the Flipper World comics, where among other things, she manages to burn chocolate while using water to melt it.
    • She is able to cook one dish, a dish Shakari taught her, but in order for her to do so, she needs the same atmosphere and recreate the entire situation.
  • Literal-Minded: Not very good at picking up on sarcasm or threats:
Grimy Thug: "Where are you lovebirds off to in such a hurry anyway? Off to have a good time? How about lettin' us tag along too? Whatcha say? Gahahaha!"
Stella: "Feel free to join us. I can't guarantee whether you'll have a good time or not, however."
Grungy Robber: "Hey... You makin' fun of us?"
Stella: "Not at all. If you wish to join us, feel free to do so."
  • No Social Skills: Has a general lack of tact and situational awareness, and is frank to a fault. However, most people understand her intentions well enough, so she rarely ends up stepping on any toes.
  • Meaningful Name: Stella as a name means "celestial star", she doesn't recall anything about her origins, and inhabits a place called Starview Village. She's forced to put the two together after the Lord of Shadow's defeat to find out about her otherworldly origin.
  • Promoted to Playable: She becomes playable after clearing the Driven by Deams, Guided Through Darkness event.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Despite seeming like a typical Emotionless Girl at first, she's always polite and kind, more than willing to offer a helping hand to anyone in need, and is courteous even to those who have antagonized the party in the past, such as Regis.
  • The Stoic: You could probably count the amount of things that have genuinely surprised Stella on one hand, and still have fingers to spare.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Poor Stella. After the Lord of Shadow's defeat, rifts inadvertently open up within Light's world, bringing forth "Purgers" from the Overlords, the creators of Stella, and by extent, Pandemonium, who want to erase everything that remains for those who they deem unauthorized to use the World Flipper's powers. She only recalled these memories because her doppelganger, now named Leva by the Lord of Shadow himself, returned them to her after she deliberately erased from from her mind.

Light

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/209_8.png
The Beast Who Was a Champion
Rarity: 1*
Race: Beast, Human (Prologue)
Gender: Male
VA: Eri Inagawa, Hisayoshi Suganuma (Human)
A champion-turned-creature who emerged from the World Flipper. Though small and fuzzy, he has a will of steel and leaves no cry for help unheeded. He joins forces with Alk and Stella, hoping to one day return to his own world and defeat the Lord of Shadow.

  • Decoy Protagonist: He is the playable character during the tutorial and is established immediately as the hero destined to face down the Lord of Shadow. One battle later, he is fluffy and lost, and we are introduced to Alk and Stella, with whom he shares the spotlight.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Implied with Belsidia's betrayal.
  • Forced Transformation: After a round against the Lord of Shadow, he is transformed into a powerless rabbit-like creature.
  • Mentor Mascot: Light serves this role, albeit unwillingly due to his Forced Transformation. Losing his powers means that he's only good for flying around and talking, but being a seasoned warrior he uses his honed wisdom and keen intellect to guide Alk and Stella throughout their journey across the cosmos.
  • Oblivious to Love: He is clueless to signs of love both towards himself and the people around him. He didn't know that Princess Lily harbour feelings of love toward him. He also didn't know that his companions Joshua the cleric and his Childhood Friend Shakari the mage were lovers during their journey.
  • Team Dad: Downplayed. Though the role of "team parent" tends to be relatively evenly split amongst the four main characters depending on the situation, Light is the one who most often takes on a specifically paternal role to multiple younger recruitable characters, such as Nephtim and Arum, and other characters will jokingly rib him about it.
Light: (about Nephtim) "She's grown... It brings me joy, as well as sorrow."
Alk: "You really are a dad..."

Role: Attacker
Class: Bruiser
Race: Human/Beast
Leader Talent: Last Warning
Skill: Wild Roar
Gender: Male
VA: Kenta Miyake
A rugged tiger from a world with no other beastfolk. All he had to trust were his own two fists - until he befriended a young lord named Rolan.

Christmas Variant
Element: Wind
Rarity: 4*
Role: Attacker
Class: Bruiser
Leader Talent: I'll Go Down in History!
Skill: Holiday Roar
A tiger who ended up stranded alone in a desert world. Once, he had everything taken from him. Now, he has so much, he is giving some of it away for the holidays!

Flipperversary Variant
Element: Thunder
Rarity: 5*
Role: Attacker
Class: Bruiser
Leader Talent: Strength and Growth
Skill: Like a Shooting Star

  • And Then What?: His main motivation was to get revenge on the Lord of the Oasis, but after doing so he's not really sure what else to do. To this end Alk and Stella convince him to tag along on their journey.
  • Blood Knight: Downplayed, as while he does not actively seek battle, he only considers himself good in a fight and tends to see combat as exciting. He joins the main cast after giving up his quest for vengeance because he's really not sure what else to do besides fight new things.
  • The Big Guy: The group's best fighter and strongest in terms of physical strength.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: He's buff, tough, and a bit of a Jerkass at first, but he simply opts for knocking out Nadir when encountering him and eventually warms up to Alk, Stella and Light.
  • Character Focus: World 4, Fang Canyon, puts him front and center due to being a world populated by beastfolk similar to him, and ultimately reveals his hidden backstory as the missing son of a dead king.
  • Covered with Scars: He has scars on his body from his rough life in the Kingdom of Sand.
  • Dub Name Change: His Japanese name is "Shiro" (as in white).
  • Fluffy the Terrible: Rolan named him Nimbus, as his white, fluffy fur struck the young lord as cloudlike. He'd still rather be called Nimbus than Selenius Whitetail.
  • Lost Orphaned Royalty: His true identity is Prince Selenius Whitetail, who survived an attempt on his life when he was transported by the Fang Canyon World Flipper as a child to the Kingdom of Sand.
  • Red Baron: He is known in the Kingdom of Sand as the "Hellcat of the Dunes", partly because there are no other beastmen on that world.
  • Revenge: His initial motivation on the Kingdom of Sand is vengeance on the Lord of the Oasis for murdering the previous lord Rolan, his only friend, and framing him for it. Once he has his revenge, he realizes he has no other purpose and decides to join the protagonists on their world-hopping journey.

Recruitable Characters

Enemies

    Masked Sorceress

Leve

Gender: Female
VA: Yuuka Aisaka

An enigmatic lady who seems to delight in plunging worlds into darkness and destruction, and manipulating others into doing her bidding. She confronts the protagonists repeatedly, though it's not entirely clear if she serves the Lord of Shadow or is acting on her own accord.

  • Ambiguously Human: She looks humanoid, but given her powers and the mask she wears it's hard to tell for sure. Her Dramatic Unmask at the end of Chapter 6 puts her humanity even more into question.
  • Break Them by Talking: She attempts this at one point by posing as Alk's Shadow and attacking him in the Kaleidoscope, trying to convince him that he's scared of being unneeded and that he's the only one in the party who has nothing to fight for. Alk retaliates by affirming his belief in himself and his friends while acknowledging his weaknesses, finishing the duel with a Meteor Break.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: In addition to having dominion over daemons, just causing general havoc wherever she goes, and taking the path of most destruction, she enjoys watching events unfold that involve someone/something suffering and/or dying and gets appropriately upset whenever Alk and his party intervene and stop the good guys from doing anything rash.
  • Dramatic Unmask: At the end of Chapter 6, her mask breaks, revealing a face identical to Stella's, much to the shock of the protagonists.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: She genuinely cared for the Lord of Shadows and was his death really pained her.
    • She also came to see Sakuya as a friend and was devasted by her betrayal, and despite everything Leve still tried to save Sakuya.
  • Evil Virtues: Gratitude. Though she loathes Alk and the others for killing Oghir, she's still grateful for their help in saving Sakuya. She doesn't join them but she does leave them alone instead of fighting them again.
  • Meaningful Name: As Sakuya pointed Leve is a Danish word, it means "Live" which is what Oghir wanted Leve to do after his defeat.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: She wanted to see Nimbus to kill the Lord of the Oasis as revenge for the death of Rolan, but when Stella talks him out of it, the Masked Sorceress appears and deems the Lord of the Oasis no longer of any use, killing him instead.

    • His last moments also show he cared for Adjudicus as he said his nephew was too "beatiful" to carry the curse of the death.
  • Evil Uncle: Adjudicus is his nephew and the Lord has no problem trying to kill him.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: The fight in chapter 7 is this, while it's possible to defeat him its still very hard and the game expects you to lose.
  • One-Winged Angel: He became "Ohgir the Odious" a giant demon born from the fusion with the souls of those lost in the darkness.

Ilbis

Race: Demon
Gender: Male
VA: Ayumu Murase

  • Alas, Poor Villain: Alk at least felt like this.
  • Axe-Crazy: In his own words "he's not very stable".
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: After his final defeat Alk could only give him a pitiful gaze, something that really pissed Ilbis off.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Ilbis cannot comprehend on why Eric ignored him as he cried over his mother's corpse.
  • Fusion Dance: With Camir.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Before Oghir found him, Ilbis was set to be executed as he murdered his own parents.
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards Oghir. His last moments is spent crawling towards the Lord of Shadows, apologizing for his failure, and dying in his arms.

    Lord of the Oasis

Camir

Race: Human
Gender: Male
VA: Hiroshi Watanabe

  • Archenemy: Nimbus's due causing Roland's death.
  • Jerkass: He is an arrogant man who sees others as beneath him as has no issue with sending them to die.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Does this to Nadir by sending him to follow the protagonist to the ancient ruins to distract them enough for them to be burried inside.

  • Demonic Possession: Capable of doing this. Denah being an example.
  • Eldritch Abomination: The Devourer of Stars is an otherworldly monster.

    Chapter Bosses

Venito Solas

A corrupted Owlbert.

For tropes on Owlbert, see his section in Wind Characters.

  • Warm-Up Boss: As the first actual boss that the player faces, he's very straightforward, but establishes how bosses operate. Fittingly enough, his only difficulty in co-op mode is Beginner, and he is the only chapter boss that has that difficulty (all others start on Intermediate difficulty).

Regitare, Undead Lord

A corrupted Regitare.

For tropes on Regitare, see his section in Wind Characters.

Ancient Golem

The custodian guarding a World Flipper of The Kingdom of Sand.

For tropes of the playable Golem, see his section in Fire Characters.

Hermit King

Hermie, one of Amelia's animal friends, when corrupted by the Masked Sorceress.

Arch Accursed

A powerful fiend summoned by the Masked Sorceress.

Whitetail

Race: Human/Beast
Gender: Male

The vengeful spirit of Godking Whitetail.

  • And This Is for...: In his second phase, he uses skills that place gravity fields on the battlefield, to hinder the party's movement. Each one is dedicated to someone. In order, the moves are "For My Father", "For My Heir", and "For My People".
  • Turns Red: When he loses half his health, he uses the "Blind Fury" skill, which signals a phase change to a more difficult pattern of attacks.
  • Vengeful Ghost: His spirit is enraged that he, his son and their entourage were ambushed on their way to peace talks with the dogfolk.

The Administrator

Race: Human/Droid
VA: Akane Fujita

The last human and ruler of Mecha Metropolis.

  • Beam Spam: All her attacks are various lasers, fired from her main body's turrets.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: A variant on it, revealed far later in episode 2's prologue. The fact the Purgers resemble her is far from being a coincidence, hence why she put the entirety of Mecha Metropolis on lockdown upon the main characters landing.
Alk: The Administrator... She definitely knew about all of this [the Overlords and Purgers]. That's why she was so careful to put her world on complete lockdown.
  • Go Mad from the Isolation: Discussed by other characters; though she made the droids and robots to populate the world and in a sense, keep humanity alive, as the last human she is still lonely, and her frenzied efforts to maintain this world's society are gradually tearing it apart.
  • Last of Her Kind: She is the last human in her world, being the Sole Survivor of a world war after hiding in the safety of a bunker.
  • Light Is Not Good: She is Light element in her boss fight, but she is certainly not good. Also doubles as Foreshadowing for the Purgers.

Orochi

A giant, eight-headed serpent sealed in Yamato, summoned forth by the Masked Sorceress to wreak havoc.

  • Desperation Attack: Eightfold Fury. When all the heads have been defeated, Orochi regenerates all eight, becomes invulnerable to damage, and channels a storm of lasers that hit the entire battlefield. If all 5 of his weak spots are hit, however, the attack will be cancelled, and Orochi will lose the fight.
  • Elemental Powers: Unlike most enemies, Orochi uses multiple elemental powers; different ones for each head. As such, he has no elemental weakness, or reccomended element.
    • Light 'em Up: The Healing Head, which uses healing magic, and can inflict Light damage and reduce Attack power with Flashwave.
    • Playing with Fire: The Hellfire Head, which breathes fire.
    • Casting a Shadow: The Calling Head and the Abyssal Head. The former summons shadowy flames that pulse dark energy after a while, and the latter launches enormous beams of dark energy.
    • Gravity Master: The Repelling Head, which raises the gravity of the battlefield to push enemies away, and can inflict Slow with its attacks.
    • Shock and Awe: The Crackling Head, which drops lightning bolts on the team, which can Paralyze.
    • An Ice Person: The Frigid Head, which raises walls of ice to block or trap enemies.
    • Blow You Away: The Cyclone Head, which calls wind to push enemies to one side of the battlefield, and can summon whirlwinds to pulse wind damage.
  • Sequential Boss: All eight heads need to be defeated one at a time, then his final attack needs to be stopped before he finally goes down.
  • Orochi: Fitting for a world based around Youkai.
