The Host

    open/close all folders

     J.D. Roth

Born: April 20, 1968 (ages 33-38 throughout the show)
From Cherry Hill, New Jersey, U.S.

Born James David Weinroth, he's been the host of Endurance and its predecessor Moolah Beach since the beginning. His narration may seem condescending, but don't let that take away from the experience - he's trying only show the program has a market to kids. Otherwise, he is rather relaxed as a host.—-

  • Captain Obvious: When doing the temple of fate elimination challenge, he will state what elements each team picked even though it is clearly shown which element each team picked (the chosen element usually rises up in most seasons or is the only element to be shown in front of a team like in ''Hawaii'). Thus teams tend to react to the results before he sums up what just happened before them.
  • Catchphrase: Every temple of fate elimination challenge will have him say "Will the dominant element please rise now" before the chosen elements rise.
  • Game Show Host: He is the host of all seasons of Endurance and Moolah Beach.
  • Mr. Exposition: As the host and typically the only non-contestant person on the show, he explains how the missions work as well as the general mechanics of the game. This includes parts already known to teams like how the temple of fate challenge works which he explains every single time teams go up there.
  • Nice Guy: And how! In Season 2, he went as far as refraining from using the word "twist" (substituting it with the word "surprise" instead) to accommodate Keetin, who got really nervous whenever the word was said. He also tends to say something nice to teams who have just been eliminated.
    • He also disagreed with Cealey's position that some people just can't ever get along and instead encourages people to spend time with the other to get to know them.
    • In Season 4, he allowed Shea and Amelia to be the first team without having go threw the partner challenge (and risk being paired with someone else) when they both expressed a desire to be partnered with each other.

     Endurance 1 Contestants

Blue Team

Aaron Thornburg and Jonna Mannion

The second team formed after Ashley caught the Blue ball, and partnered them up according to the Jonna's List. From the outset, the Blue Team was the strongest team on the island: they managed to win the first two Temple Missions in a row. They also established an earlier alliance: the Brotherhood, along with Green, Purple, and Orange. However, they would immediately break off when the Blue Team gave the first Samadhi to Orange, and sent Green up to the Temple of Fate, along with Gray, with the intent that Green would be eliminated. When Green returned, both teams turned against Blue for their supposed betrayal. Instead, largely due to Aaron's crush on Sabrina (which she exploited) and his friendship with Christian, instead allied with Yellow and Red.

  • The Ace: Aaron physically, Jonna mentally. Combined, they won 6 missions, more than any other team throughout the show.
  • Aerith and Bob
  • Brains and Brawn: See The Ace.
  • Chekhov's Hobby: Christian suspected Aaron did well in Knotted Up because he was used to knots when making necklaces for Sabrina.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Aaron, though this was mainly because of Sabrina. He was allied with Trevor, Skylar and Brandon in an alliance called the brotherhood. After Sabrina started to flirt with him, he turned on the alliance immediately. He would however later send Yellow to temple in the final 4 and would have given them the samdhi in the final 3 if he couldn't remove it.
  • Flawless Victory: They won all but one temple mission and avoided going to temple the entire season; the latter feat only matched by one other team though unlike Blue, they did not become the endurance champions. Blue was hit by a samadhi but they managed to become the first team to win a temple mission despite getting a disadvantage.
  • Honor Before Reason: They had a lot of this.
    • When they won Eruption, they planned on sending Green and Orange to temple instead of Yellow and/or Red even though Green and Orange never won a mission while the other two had. Lana also claimed that Yellow would likely betray Blue the next time they had the chance which Jonna agreed with. However, Jonna said she already promised not to send Yellow or Red that round and insisted she never breaks a promise even if it seemed strategic to do so.
    • During the final three, they got rid of the Samadhi when given the option to do so. This made the final temple mission fair game even though losing the mission would give them an automatic sentence to the temple of fate. Luckily for them, they still won the mission.
  • Irony: Jonna, the creator of the partner list, became partners with one of the four people who went against the List.
  • It's All My Fault: Jonna after getting the note after Gray's elimination.
  • No-Damage Run: They were never sent to the temple of fate prior to the finale. They did get the samadhi once but still won the following temple mission in spite of it.

Yellow Team

Jon Crocilla and Sabrina Lloyd

The first team created on Endurance, being paired by Jonna, the Yellow Team was primarily led by Sabrina and her strategy to manipulate as many contestants as possible in order to get an advantage in the game. While this took them far in the game, it also made them a substantial amount of enemies, because Sabrina was ready to break an alliance at any given moment. Nevertheless, they were also good in challenges, breaking the Blue Team's winning streak in "Plant the Flag" and winning "Waterlogged". They were best friends with Red team and join them in an alliance with Blue, whom Sabrina took advantage of Aaron's crush on her. They also seemed to be friendly with Green at times.

  • The Chessmaster: Sabrina, who tricked Aaron into sending his allies home. This waned in the final 4 though as Blue choose to send Yellow to temple.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Sabrina made deals with various people throughout the game with no intention of keeping them once it was no longer convenient for her. This included getting Layla to ensure Christian and Ashley were paired, only to target them after winning Planting the Flag and convincing Trevor to reveal what was at temple. Most notable was lying to Aaron that she liked him so that they wouldn't target Yellow though she did plan on turning against Blue at some later point in the season. While she seemed closed to Ashley for most of the game, there were a couple of times when she seriously considered targeting Red. While this earned her disproval from some of the other contestants, including Jon, she justified this behaviour by saying she would be eliminated early if she always told the truth.
  • Dude Magnet: Like Ashley, most of the guys wanted Sabrina as her partner.
  • The Heart: Jon, who on the other hand desired to play the game more fairly and felt some discomfort with Sabrina tricking Aaron.
  • I'm Not Here to Make Friends: Sabrina, and she even voiced it in one episode. She even considered targeting Red at times, despite being close with Ashley for much of the game.
  • Jerkass: Sabrina took advantage of Aaron's crush on her, pretending to recoup them at times, in order to keep her team safe, to the disgust of both Christian and her own partner, Jon. She was also very harsh to Jonna when Yellow was sent to temple in the final 4.
    • Jerkass Has a Point: While her teammate and friends seemed to morally condemn her manipulative tendencies (particularly taking advantage of Aaron's crush on her), Sabrina does note if she told the truth, she would likely be eliminated very early on.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Sabrina, especially to Aaron. She took advantage of the fact that Aaron had a crush on her and flirted with him. This saved Yellow from being sent to temple before the final 4. It seemed to wore off though in the final 4 as Blue sent Yellow to temple against Green.
    • According to Layla, Sabrina and Ashley promised an alliance if she helped pair them with the partners they wanted (which Layla did for Ashley and Christian). However, Yellow would give later give Purple the samadhi and raised no objections to Red on sending them to temple.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Sabrina was red, due to her constant strategizing and role in the game to Jon's blue.
  • Wham Line: "I'm a liar too...", Sabrina's infamous quote from one interview.

Red Team

Christian Justice and Ashley Gudzak

Created by Layla, but with Sabrina's intervention in the partner selection. They got along well with each other, along with the Yellow Team. Ashley and Sabrina's friendship catalyzed into a significant alliance through the season, but also made the impression that they were carried by their two stronger allies due to winning only one mission.

  • Always Second Best: They did relatively well in challenges, such as "Knotted Up", but were overtaken by Blue or Yellow most of the time and despite making it to the final 3, they only won a single mission before getting eliminated.
  • Dude Magnet: Almost all of the guys wanted Ashley or Sabrina as their partner; so much so that Aaron compared it to a war.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Ashley and Sabrina.
  • I'm Not Here to Make Friends: Ashley although she did make friends with Sabrina.
  • The Load: Later on, as part of Yellow and (to a lesser extent) Blue's alliance-as the only mission they won was one based off a Schelling Point Game.
    • Christian in particular fits since the one mission Red won was completely due to Ashley. Christian also caused Red to lose in Leap of Faith, thus getting them sent to temple where they got eliminated.
  • Nice Girl: Ashley, especially compared to Sabrina.
    • Beware the Nice Ones: Ashley wanted to use her influence to get the Blue Team handicapped or sent to Temple, because they were the strongest team.
  • Number Two: Ashley to Sabrina.
  • The Social Expert: Ashley. This came in handy in the Squeeze Play mission since it was based around what everyone guess got the most the popular response toward survey questions and Ashley was the only one to get every single question correct, thus winning the mission for the team. Downplayed though in Waterlogged where she was outspoken about wanting Blue's pieces as this actually caused Sabrina to consider targeting Red as she wanted to keep Blue for protection. Fortunately for her, Jon would not entertain the idea of giving the samadhi to Red while Blue choose not to target Red despite Ashley's remarks (likely due to Aaron's friendship with Christian).
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Ashley's reaction to Yellow wanting to give the Samadhi to Orange (a team that had never won a mission) over Blue (who had won 2 by that point).
  • This Is a Competition: Ashley in Waterlogged because of no one wanting to send Blue to Temple.

Green Team

Trevor Wilkins and Lana Neiman

When Max caught the Green ball, he noted that Trevor pointed to Lana, and paired them up, breaking up Jonna's list. Not much later, the two partners would clash with each other; their lack of teamwork showing in "Tilt" and "Knotted Up". While Trevor was part of the Brotherhood alliance with Skyler, Brandon and Aaron, the latter ended up finding Trevor to be annoying and this prompted the Blue Team to send them up to Temple along with Gray with the expectation that Green would be eliminated. Much to everyone's surprise, the Green Team came back, leading to rivalry between Green and Blue. For the rest of the game, Green was sometimes on friendly terms with Yellow and Red.

  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Reversed. The reason why they lost "Tilt" because Trevor was holding a relatively larger Lana.
    • This would be later seen in "Plant the Flag", as Lana was the only girl running to put the flags on the poles.
  • Nerd Glasses: Trevor
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: The first in a long line of mismatched partners. They had gotten over it towards the end where they even surprised everyone by winning a mission.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After spending the first half of the season having poor mission performances and getting sent to temple twice, they gradually improved their performances and won House of Cards to the surprise of everyone else.
  • The Worsening Curse Mark: Started the Three-Temple Curse where a team is eliminated on their third temple trip.
  • Undesirable Prize: Shortly after being partnered with Trevor, Lana had this opinion about the prize for winning Endurance (which for her team would be a trip to the Amazon Forest) due to the fact that she didn't seemed thrilled about going on a trip with a partner she found annoying.
  • Younger Than They Look: Trevor was 12 when he was on E1.

Orange Team

Skyler Russell and Chelsea Myers

This was the second last team to be formed this season, chosen by Max when he caught the orange ball. While they were not supposed to be paired together according to Jonna's list, they seemed to get along fine. They were known as one of the more quieter teams, typically keeping to themselves though Chelsea did become good friends with Layla and Max. Skyler was a member of the Brotherhood alliance (along with Aaron, Brandon and Trevor) though it was quickly dissolved after Blue gave them the first samadhi.

  • Break the Cutie: Chelsea after being forced to eliminate Layla, her best friend, at Temple.
  • Butt-Monkey: The only reason this persisted is because both contestants were quiet. J.D commented in the reunion that despite having Luck as their starting piece, they did not do very well in the competition but were still heavily targeted by the stronger teams.
  • Cool Shades: Skyler
  • Fish out of Water: Chelsea was rather quiet as she didn't hangout with a lot of the other contestants. She did have a friendship though with Max, Layla and her partner. Of course, Max and Layla were amongst the first teams eliminated.
  • Irony: As noted on the reunion special, their starting pyramid piece was Luck. Yet, they failed to win a mission, they were given the samadhi twice and were sent to temple twice, eliminating their best friends (Purple) on the first trip and then getting eliminated themselves on the second.
  • Joke Character: Neither of them posed a threat to anyone diplomatically or athletically.
  • The Quiet One: Both; at the beginning of the season; people thought Skyler had a plan, while Chelsea didn't talk to many people. However, later on, Chelsea was able to break out of her shell.

Purple Team

Brandon Hendrix and Layla Brisco

Not long after Layla formed the red team, she was paired with Brandon by Jenna when she caught the purple ball. They weren't supposed to be paired together, at least according to Jonna's list, they seemed to work well together. Brandon was a member of the short lived Brotherhood alliance.

  • Compressed Hair: Brandon. Initially his hair was braided but his is a full blown afro

Gray Team

Max DeLeo and Jenna Jimenez

The last team formed this season, due to the fact that Max and Jenna catching the last 3 balls in the game (messing up three of the pairings on Jonna's list in the process). They appeared strong though they intentionally lost Tilt to make them less of a target. They were sent to the first temple as Blue thought it would be a strength test and that Gray would definitely beat Green (Blue's intended target). This decision however caused Gray to be the first team eliminated and began an alleged curse where Gray would usually be the first colored team out.

  • Girlish Pigtails: Jenna.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: They were chosen to compete again as season 2's brown team.
  • Nerd Glasses: Max
  • Tall Poppy Syndrome: Attempted defiance. They wanted to avoid this and so they threw the first Endurance Mission. They performed well in the partner selection game (initially forming half of the teams on this season) and had an early lead as a result (starting with 2 pieces while everyone else had one). While they could have potentially won Tilt they wanted to get under the radar to avoid being a target due to their earlier success. Unfortunately for them, their strength was a main reason why they were sent to temple as it was expected that would be strong enough to beat Green as no one was aware of what was at the temple of Fate at that time. This resulted in Gray's elimination.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: They were the first team eliminated. Subverted as they will voted in the reunion special to be allowed to return in Endurance 2.

No Team

Shane Peltzman, Ron Neurauter, Alejando Rose-Garcia;Lacey Elick, Heather Ichihashi, Cree Howard

  • Face Defeat with Dignity: While disappointed with losing the right to stay challenge, they were ultimately accepting of what happened.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: They were eliminated in the first episode and were not even brought back during the reunion special.

     Endurance 2 Contestants

Brown Team

Max DeLeo and Jenna Jimenez

Originally the Gray team in the first endurance, they were voted to return as the Brown team. They aimed to avoid the same mistakes they made in the past season. Their presence seemed to split the beach as some teams where fine with having them there while others were less than thrilled. They were allied primarily with Yellow and Green but were a main target by Scooter (Blue) and Purple.

  • Big "OMG!": Jenna after winning her first Temple of Fate.
  • But Not Too White: Max & Jenna gotten considerably tanner from the first season.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: During Endurance 2, Max tended to make deals with other teams, only to quickly break them such as promising not to give the samadhi to Blue or promising Purple that they weren't going to send them to temple but ended up doing both. This causes some of the contestants to become annoyed with him. Even Jenna noted this would get their team into trouble as the other teams stopped believing what he said to them.
  • Hypocrite: They were quite upset when Green informed them that they were sending them to temple in the final 4 despite Green giving them the courtesy of advance notice. In contrast, Brown (or at least, Max) had previously made promises with other teams (such as Blue and Purple) to not target them only to quickly change their minds.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: They were the first team eliminated in Season 1, but during this season, they Took a Level in Badass and ended up winning the game.
  • They're Back: They were the grey team in Season 1 where they were the first team eliminated. However, they were voted by the other Endurance 1 contestants to be given the chance to compete again.
  • The Chessmaster: Subverted. Max attempted to be this throughout the season, as he tried to make deals with a good number of contestants. However, as the season went on as his constant backstabbing caused everyone to doubt that he would make good on his offers with Jenna starting to believe this would end up causing trouble for them.

Green Team

Mike Lavigne and Keetin Marchi

Mike and Keetin were formed after each caught the green ball in Wash Out. They allied themselves primarily with Yellow and Brown though Mike was friends with Annie of Purple. Keetin was also close with Christa but opposed Scooter. Their initial wins in temple missions established them as one of the more stronger teams this season.

  • The Ace: They were both good mentally and with teamwork, winning three missions throughout the season. Their friendships with the other strong teams (Brown and Purple) also helped keep them safe from temple whenever they didn't win a temple mission. In their sole temple visit during the final 3 (which they had to go by default), they easily beat Orange who had won twice at temple beforehand.
  • Aerith and Bob
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Red thought so after the second temple mission as Red claims they had a bond which later prompted them to send a harsh letter when they ended up getting eliminated (though Green might not have felt the same way and seemed to be closer to some of the other teams). They did send Brown and Purple team to Temple despite their friendships with both while sparing Orange (though this was mainly because there were no more endurance missions left and eliminating one of their stronger competitors would increase their chance of winning the last temple mission and a spot in the finals).
  • Epic Fail: Green was the first team out in the Face To Face after Mike fell into the water as the cords were beginning to rise just a few seconds into the challenge.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Both Brown and Purple were very displeased that Green sent them to temple in the final 4 as both had been close with them throughout the game and neither targeted Green despite their early strong performances as well as the fact they weren't in general that close to Orange (who Green had sent to temple twice prior). However, the only remaining mission before the finals would be another temple mission and only the winner of that mission was safe from temple. As Brown and Purple were more consistently better mission performers than Orange, it made sense to Green to get rid of one of them to have a better chance of the reaching the finals.

Orange Team

Tyler Burkhalter and Michelle Durand

Tyler and Michelle did not get along at first. Michelle was very motivated to win the game while Tyler felt homesick and wanted to leave. They also rarely talked to each other at the beginning and fared poorly in missions. This made them an easy target during the first few missions as the stronger teams didn't want to make enemies of each other too early into the game. According to Purple, Orange early on was in an alliance them and Gray though Purple ended up giving Orange the first samadhi. The others eventually began to focus on bigger threats while Orange gradually began to work better with each other as time went on.

  • Batman Gambit: After winning Aqueduct and thus having the power to give one of the other teams (each of whom had won multiple missions) a handicap in the next temple mission, Tyler decided to take it out of the game. He guessed that one of the other teams would win the temple mission but wouldn't send Orange as they were still seen as weaker than the others. Moreover, he guessed there was a high chance that whoever lost at temple would likely give Orange their pieces. While Michelle was a bit skeptical, it worked: Green team won the temple mission and, despite having sent Orange to temple twice before this point, sent Brown and Purple. Purple was eliminated and, despite a pact with Brown, gave their 6 pieces to Orange, giving them a total of 8 pieces (double of what Brown and Green had combined).
  • The Chew Toy: Zigzagged. At the beginning the of the game, Orange was heavily targeted due to Tyler's homesickness, getting sent to temple twice by Green and gotten a samadhi by Purple (even though Purple was apparently in an alliance with them) despite Orange doing poorly in those first few missions. After surviving their second temple trip though, this aspect became more downplayed as they slowly began working better together while the other teams started focusing targets. Orange eventually won a mission and, once Purple was eliminated, was giving the lead in the competition (8 out of a total 12 pieces), giving them a serious chance of winning the whole competition. However, their lead did not last long as they lost the final 3 temple mission and then lost to Green at temple, just missing their chance of reaching the finals.
  • Honor Before Reason: By winning the Aqueduct endurance mission during the final 4, they could have given the samadhi to another team, all of whom had won at least 2 missions by that point. They instead took the samadhi out of the game. Fortunately for Orange, while they didn't win the following temple mission, they were not selected to go to temple.
  • Suicide by Cop: Tyler attempted to do this for the first 2 temple missions due to being homesick and for not initially being able to get along with Michelle. This failed though as Orange was able to survive both trips and other teams became targeted afterwords.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Tyler was homesick which made Orange an easy target in the early part of the game, causing them to get sent to temple twice. Their differences in personalities also meant they did not get along very well. They managed perform well though in the Aqueduct mission and made it to the final 3.
  • Took a Level in Badass: The team was constantly targeted in the first couple of rounds due to Tyler's homesickness and their personality clash resulted in poor mission performances. They slowly got better and won Aqueduct. Tyler also pulled off a gambit in getting rid of the samadhi which resulted them in getting Purple's six pieces.
  • The Worsening Curse Mark: Continued the Three-Temple Curse.

Purple Team

Jeff Phillips and Annie Kim

One of the stronger teams on this season due to winning multiple missions. They were one of the teams that were not initially- thrilled with having to compete with Brown though they had on and off alliances throughout the game. They also did not get along well with Yellow due to the constant clashing between Annie and Calley (their conflict was later ranked as one of the top 10 moments of the first four seasons of Endurance) though they did not seem to have any personal issues with Shep.

  • One of the Boys: Annie was typically seen hanging out with the boys rather than most of the girls (with Michelle being an exception) which may have contributed to the rivalry between her and the girls in the Brown-Green-Yellow alliance.
  • Purple Is Powerful: They proved to be one of the strongest teams on this season and held half of the pyramid pieces prior to their elimination.
  • Tall Poppy Syndrome: They became worried about becoming targets when they got Gray's piece (which put them in the lead) along with their elimination note revealing their alliance. This increased even more when they won the Fireball endurance mission the same day which further increase their lead and confirmed them as contenders. They tried to offset this by giving the samadhi to Orange (a weak team at that stage despite Annie's friendship with Michelle) and also by Annie's close friendship with Mike. After Brown sent them to temple though, despite Max making a deal with them, they felt it was imperative to win all subsequent missions as they were certain they would be targeted if anyone else besides them won. This ended up happening when Green won Plank Maze as, since only the winner of the next temple mission was safe from the temple, they sent Purple along with Brown in spite of their friendships in order to get rid of one of the stronger teams and this resulted in Purple's elimination.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Annie, with the exception of Michelle, clashed with many of the girls (especially Calley) this season because she frequently hung out with the guys, to the point where she said all the girls followed Jenna like dogs.

Yellow Team

Shep Allen and Calley Payne

Formed after neither person caught a ball in Wash Out. Calley was very supportive of Brown, even claiming she would target anyone who went against them though Shep did not seem to share such feelings. Calley and Annie tended to clash quite bit with each other with Calley encouraging others to target Purple at various points though they claim they made up. They were in an alliance with Brown and Green throughout the game.

  • Agony of the Feet: They almost won Tower of Power but decided to ditch their shoes in attempt to increase speed which instead caused their feet to hurt from the hot beach sand. This slowed them down and allow Green to get their first win.
  • Always Second Best: They did well in some of the missions (nearly winning Tower of Power, Rollerball and Cherry Picker) only to lose to another team at the last moment.
  • Broken Tears: Calley after her elimination.
  • The Load: Shep felt that Calley's lack of athleticism led to Yellow losing some of the challenges, and even their allies on Brown and Green noted this trend and began to question whether they should still be carrying them. Even Shep began to confess some frustration with some of her poor mission performances after Yellow lost the Face to Face mission which Yellow lost after Calley was unable to kept holding on to the rope. Her outspokenness about wanting to protect Brown, as well as her feud with Annie from Purple, also made Yellow a target whereas most people seemed to like Shep.
  • Nice Guy: Even though Calley was not one of his top picks for a partner, Shep was still quite supportive of her, especially when she was feeling sad. He also showed this during the right to stay as he was giving David encouragement when he was starting to slip.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The main reason why Calley clashed with Annie in a few episodes, as Annie was the tomboy while Calley was the girly girl

Blue Team

Cameron "Scooter" Magruder and Christa Schultz

Scooter and Christa differed in personality. Christa was a more quiet person while Scooter tended to be one of the more outspoken contestants this season. In particular, he was not a fan of Brown coming back to endurance while Christa didn't seem to mind. Moreover, Christa hanged out with the girls from the Brown-Green-Yellow alliance while Scooter hanged out with the other teams. Despite the difference in personality, they did well in some of the missions though they never actually won.

  • The Load: Scooter's attitude caused his team to be targeted by most of the other teams by the time there were 6 remaining including the Brown-Green-Yellow alliance who were otherwise very close with Christa.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Scooter's red (being very outspoken on who he didn't like) to Christa's blue (who was much calmer than her partner).
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Averted; they were on opposite sides of A House Divided and Christa did express some doubts when they were first formed, but they worked very well together in missions. They even finished second in a trust-based temple mission despite having the samadhi against them.

Red Team

Phil Morelli and Jacquelynn Pointer

Phil and Jacquelynn were quite close with each other to the point other teams speculated they had a more closer relationship than being friends. They did alright in missions but didn't win anything. They tended to hang out with teams that were in opposition to Brown.

  • Broken Tears: Jacquelynn after being sent to Temple
  • Dude Magnet: Every guy wanted Jacquelynn to be their partner.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Phil believed they had a bond with the green team but got sent to temple by them.
  • Sore Loser: Both of them made a very angry farewell letter to Green.

Gray Team

Wayne Williams and Maryelle De Vitto

Wayne wanted Jacquelynn as a partner (granted, most of the boys did as well) but was willing to work with Maryelle when it turned out she caught the gray ball. Maryelle was apparently close with Purple whom Gray had an alliance with. Max claims they had an alliance with Brown as well.

  • We Hardly Knew Ye: With the exception of Wayne's storyline with Jacquelynn, neither of them had that much screen time, with Maryelle speaking only once.
  • The Worsening Curse Color: Continued the Gray Team Curse. JD even commented that "Gray seemed to be destined to be sent first". Similar to season 1, it was the other team that the temple mission winners wanted gone but Gray ultimately became the victims instead.

No Team

David Cofresi, Glen Powell, and Trey Griffin;Sarah Ruckreigle, Abbey Konz, and Simone Bouffard

  • We Hardly Knew Ye: As usual with contestants eliminated in the right to stay challenge, these contestants only got a small bit of airtime.

     Endurance Hawaii Contestants

Gray Team

Chris Vanderweir and Lindi Oest

Although Bryannah really wanted to have Chris as a partner, he actually wanted Lindi and the 2 successfully plotted to make it look like Chris wanted Bryannah to be his partner, only for Lindi to bump her. They formed an alliance with Purple, Orange and Red while having a rivalry with Yellow. After having some difficulty early in the season, they proved to be one of the stronger teams this season and became the only gray team to avoid being the first team eliminated.

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Lindi claimed that Gray eliminated themselves in Squaring Off mission so that they would not have to send Yellow to temple as a favor to Yellow for sparing them from temple the day before. However, this results in Orange, a team Yellow did send to temple, winning and who used their power to send Yellow to temple against their allies, Green.
  • Chick Magnet: Chris. Bryannah and Lindi were fighting to have him as a partner. Lindi won, and Bryannah was stuck with Monroe.
    • As for Dude Magnet, many of the guys liked Lindi and they picked her to skip the right to stay challenge.
  • Hypocrite: In the final four, Lindi expected the Orange and Purple Teams to choose friendship over strategy, which wasn't the case for her.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Despite Bryannah's crush on him, Chris wanted Lindi as his partner. Rather than being honest with Bryannah, he and Lindi made a plan where they would make it look like Chris wanted Bryannah, only for Lindi to steal him away. Notably, Demian notes that Chris could have taken the number 1 ball which would have allowed him to pick who he wanted but he seemed to let Demian have it. Chris and Lindi's plan worked perfectly as Lindi got the number 2 ball and used it to bump Bryannah for Chris (and ending up pairing her with Monroe). Even though Bryannah wouldn't like Lindi, they assumed her crush on Chris would keep them safe from Yellow. This may have saved Gray when Yellow won the first temple mission even though they did consider sending Gray along with Orange (they instead picked Blue). Yellow would target Gray later in the game though this was after Gray took their pieces and gave them a samadi.
  • True Companions: Chris was best friends with Reece and this was why after winning Pipeline that they choose not to take Purple's pyramid pieces even though Purple was in the lead at that point (Chris even told Demian and Tom that Reece was his best friend in that episode). Lindi and Sarah were also frequently seen spending a lot of time with each other. Purple repaid the favor after they were eliminated by giving their pieces to Gray.
  • The Worsening Curse Color: Averted, as they were able to win the season and become Endurance champions, thus temporarily breaking the Gray team curse (this was the one season that featured a Gray team who did not end up the first colored team eliminated).

Orange Team

Demian Martinez and Nicole Clark

Demian, who caught the number 1 ball in the partner selection game, choose Nicole to be his partner. They allied with Gray, Purple and Red while having a bitter rivalry with Yellow (at least, Nicole did as she had a strong dislike of Bryannah while Demian seemed to become closer to them over time). Nicole also seemed to be good friends with Vanetta. The relationship between Demian and Nicole did gradually deteriorate, particularly after Demian felt Nicole was trying to boss him around, to the point that Demian didn't think they deserved to win.

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: When Yellow unexpectedly won Bagging on You, she begged them not to send Orange even though she and Bryanah did not get along. It didn't work and Orange was sent against Blue though Orange did manage to survive.
  • Alpha Bitch: Nicole. She had an intense dislike of the Yellow team, specifically Bryannah, even though there didn't seem to be much reason for it and convinced other teams to target them as well. She also exposed Demian's secret alliance with Yellow and Brown to Purple and Gray while also trying to boss Demian around to the point he didn't think the team deserved to win.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: The Yellow Team chose not to send the orange team to temple after the superteam mission. At the final four, the orange team returned the favor by sending its two biggest allies to temple (who admittedly would have sent Orange to temple if they won), keeping the yellow team safe.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Demian picking Nicole as his partner. As the season went on, their personality differences caused them to fight constantly and at times admitted that he didn't think his team deserved to win.
  • Epic Fail: In the mission to claim Yellow's Pieces, there would be one piece awarded to the team that finishes the race first but there were also platforms along the way the teams contain a possible piece (1 had the other piece, the other 3 were decoys) with the idea that each team might potentially have a shot at a piece even if they didn't finish first. Given that Orange went in with only 2 pieces compared to Gray's 8, it was important for them to do well in the mission for a chance of winning the whole series. However, due to the poor teamwork of Orange in the mission, Gray not only finished the race first (getting one piece automatically) but they collected all of the other potential pieces. J.D. did not even bother opening them afterwards as it was clear Gray won both pieces.
  • Honor Before Reason: Due to his partner issues with Nicole, Demian encourage the other teams to make decisions that could have been costly to orange. Specifically:
    • After Yellow won Out On a Limb, he encouraged them to put Gray and Purple on their superteam (Nicole wanted to pair up with Yellow and Gray) noting that they did not have partner issues like the rest of the teams and would thus one of them deserved to win. Yellow did this and won the following mission though Orange was spared from temple thanks to Gray and Purple.
    • After Nicole leaked Demian's secret alliance with Yellow and Brown, he requested that Gray and Purple send Orange to temple if they won the next temple mission as he felt Nicole did not deserve to win. While Purple did win that mission, they again spared Orange.
  • Irrational Hatred: Nicole's dislike for the Yellow Team (more specifically Bryannah since she never had a problem with Monroe). In the beginning, it was understandable since no one really seemed to like Bryannah due to her clingy and flirtatious nature with Chris but she grew out of that over the season and even got along very well with her partner (whom she disliked in the beginning). Nicole on the other hand continued to dislike her for apparently no reason at all and even got the other girls to hate her as well.
    • Fans even speculate that the reason Nicole hated Bryannah so much was because she was jealous that Bryannah not only was prettier than her but because all the guys seemed to like her better.
  • Jerkass: Nicole was this big time. When 'your own partner' admits that he doesn't think you deserve to win, you know you're not playing the game right.
    • Demain didn't usually tend to be as antagonistic to the other players though, in the Right to Stay mission, he did jump up and down on his pipe, knowing it was causing some of the players, especially Monroe, to slip. Perhaps somewhat justified though as Demain needed to outlast at least 3 contestants in that mission in order to ensure his own preservation in the competition and J.D did not rule his actions to be illegal.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Nicole was red to Demian's blue.
  • Saved for the Sequel: Nicole auditioned for season 2, and made it to the final 40, but didn't make the final cut because of being too young.
  • Suicide by Cop: During the final 5, Demian attempted this by asking Gray and Purple to send Orange to temple as he grown to dislike his partner. However, though Purple won the next temple mission, Orange was not sent. Since Orange then won the next 2 temple missions, this became impossible.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: A world traveler (Nicole) and a city boy (Demian) do not make the perfect team. It really showed in missions that emphasized teamwork. While they did win three across the season, the first win was given to them when Gray eliminated themselves and the other two were challenges that were quite luck based.

Yellow Team

Monroe Gierl and Bryannah Bascon

Monroe and Bryannah were paired after Lindi bumped Bryannah away from Chris. While neither were happy about this at first and were considered a weak team, they ended up getting along quite well and defied expectations by proving to be one of the stronger teams this season. They were close to Green and Brown but were the main target of the Purple, Red, Orange and Gray alliance, leading them to have a number of up and downs throughout the season.

  • Ascended Fanboy: Monroe set the example for future examples of this trope to follow. The casting specials even showed him watching an episode of Endurance 2 just before JD came to inform him that he was going to be a contestant on Endurance 3.
  • Break the Cutie: Nicole, Lindi, and Sarah tried really to make Bryannah suffer throughout the season. She was tricked into thinking Chris recouped her feelings about being partners only to be bumped by Lindi, leaving her to be partnered with Monroe (whom she wasn't close to at the time). The alliance then sent her and Monroe to Temple against their closest allies (Green), took all of their pieces, and gave them a samadhi that forced them to sit out during the next Temple Mission only to send them to Temple again against their only other ally (Brown).
  • Character Development: Neither were happy about being paired at first as Bryannah wanted Chris (Monroe may not have even been a second choice as she asked if she could bump someone for a different partner) while Monroe was unhappy with being paired with someone he believed everyone disliked, even claiming he wished he could switched partners if he could. It looked like they would fall apart as they did poorly in 'Ring of Fire' and were given the first samadhi despite being ranked as the weakest team by half of the competitors; However, they then quickly started working well together, overcoming the handicap to win 'Bagging on You' and gradually accepted each other and ended up becoming one of the stronger teams.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Lindi and Nicole really did not like Bryannah, so they thought that pairing her up with Monroe would make her an easy target. Unfortunately for them, he would be a force to be reckoned with in missions. They even won the first temple mission of the season with the samadhi against them.
  • Dude Magnet: By the final 4, the remaining guys had started to hang out with Bryanah more than their own partners, even the ones on the anti-Yellow alliance much to the annoyance of Nicole, Lindi and Sarah.
  • From Bad to Worse: Occurred during the final 5. First Gray won Pipeline which allowed them to take Yellow's 2 pyramid pieces. Then Gray won 'I'm Pulling for You'' and gave the samadhi to Yellow which prevented them from competing in the following temple mission. Their only consistent allies, Brown, lost a teammate by the morning of the temple mission and Purple ultimately won that challenge and picked both to go to temple. Yellow did survive and bounced back in the final 4 as they acquired Brown's piece and won another by winning the next endurance mission. They even forged an alliance with their main rivals, Orange, which got them to the final 3 at the expense of Gray and Purple.
    • The final 3 however saw their fortunes turn again. They lost the endurance mission to Gray who decided to give the final samadhi to Yellow (in turn breaking the precedent of removing the final samadhi out of the game). Orange managed to win the following temple mission and Yellow was forced to go to temple against Gray where the three temple curse caught up with them and saw them eliminated just before the finals.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: If the game "Out on a Limb" is any indication, Monroe is far tougher than his appearance lets on. Reese (who was showcasing quite an impressive display of muscles because of his shirt) was struggling throughout the entire ordeal while Monroe was casually looking at his competitors and was smiling and looked as if he was barely trying.
    • Though, one cannot ignore the fact that in that sort of scenario, it was crucial to lock your arms within your legs to get the most out of the muscles. In this case, Monroe did that perfectly.
  • Reason Before Honor: Tom was very upset that Yellow did not pick Brown to be on their superteam despite being their only allies remaining in the game by that point. Monroe however pointed out that Brown was a relatively weak team, especially compared to Gray and Purple whom Yellow was rivals with but still choose to be on their supeteam. Monroe's belief was vindicated in the following mission where Vanetta got stuck during the mission and thus gave the Yellow-Purple-Gray superteam a rather easy win.
  • Rivals Team Up: Yellow was rivals with the Purple-Red-Orange-Gray alliance throughout the game but this did not stop them from working together with some select members on a couple of occasions.
    • After winning Out on a Limb, Yellow had the power to divide the remaining 6 teams into 2 superteams. They decided to team up with Gray and Purple even though they were the strongest teams in the opposing alliance while leaving their only allies, Brown, on the other superteam. The reasoning was that only the winning super team was safe in the next mission and they felt Purple and Gray would help them win which, due to Vanetta's poor performance in Bamboo Jungle, proved to be correct. While the three teams seem to get along for a little while, Nicole was able to end it upon leaking to Chris that Yellow was in a secret alliance with Orange and Brown.
    • Despite Orange arguably being the leader of the anti-yellow alliance, Yellow and Orange made a pact in the final 4 to send Gray and Purple to temple as they knew if either of those two won, they would send Orange and Yellow to temple. Orange though sought to realign with Gray after they came back.
    • Yellow and Brown did have a sort of pact with Orange in the final 5 though it was downplayed since they were mostly allied with Demian while Nicole proved to remain loyal to Gray and Purple
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Monroe whenever he won a mission.
    • During the Right to Stay challenge, Demian keep making a stomping motion with the pipes which was causing Monroe (and possibly some of the other contestants) to start slipping. Monroe started pleading to Demian to stop in a normal voice but reverted to high pitch screaming as he was slipping near the end of the pipe. When he managed to outlast 3 of the contestants to remain in the competition, he gave a similar high pitch scream, though in a more celebratory tone.
    • He also did it during the superteam mission where he was dragged in the mud but kept screaming to his team members to keep going.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: At first, the two were not happy to be with each other. Bryanah was already upset that Linda bumped her from being Chris' partner but her reaction to having to go with Monroe suggested he was definitely not her second choice. Monroe in turn was disappointed that Alex picked Bjorn over him and he did not like being associated with a partner who was being targeted by most of the other girls. They performed poorly in Ring of Fire and were labelled the weakest team by half of the contestants (though by the teams who wanted Bryannah gone). This immediately got downplayed though as they the following temple mission despite a samadhi and they grew to be close friends and an undeniably strong team as the game continued.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Bryanah was the tomboy to Sarah, Nicole, and Lindi's girly girl, which caused conflict between the two groups as the guys (including their partners) started to hang out with her more often than them.
  • The Worsening Curse Mark: Final team afflicted with the Three-Temple Curse.

Purple Team

Reece Bors and Sarah Baker

Purple was one of the stronger teams in the season and were allied with Orange, Red and especially Gray. Like the rest of the alliance, they tended to target Yellow though they were not as explicit in disliking them as some of their allies.

  • Chick Magnet: The primary reason Reece was spared from the Right to Stay was because he seemed to be cute.
  • Honor Before Reason:
    • After winning Balance Ball, Purple decided to send Brown to temple instead of either Gray or Orange as Purple had personal friendships with the latter teams even though Brown, a team with an already mediocre mission performance record, only consisted of Tom by that point and thus hardly a challenge threat.
    • Sarah admitted that had Purple won the final 4 temple mission, they would have sent Orange to temple even though Gray was acknowledged by the others as a stronger team. Nicole was aware of this and cited it as the reason why Orange, who did win the final 4 temple mission, decided to send both of their former allies to temple instead of their frequent rival Yellow.
  • Hypocrite: They were accused of this by Bryannah after they gave the samadhi to Yellow, whom they claimed were the weakest team at that time, despite saying they would generally want to target the people who were the strongest threats.
  • Pet the Dog: In Squaring off, Purple, along with Orange Red and Gray, were targeting Yellow Green and Brown. They had a rhythm that would have easily got those teams eliminated and guarantee an alliance member would win. However, on one of their turns, they allowed Yellow to have a turn and thus giving them a chance to win. Alex suspected that Reece knew what was happening and didn't want to be apart of it.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Sarah thought that the purple rope was Pink.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: It seemed they might have ended up as this at first as Sarah stated before the partner challenge that she did not want Reece as a partner as she thought he would likely want someone like Linda as a partner. It was thus unexpected that Reece (despite having every girl except Linda to choose as a potential partner) pick Sarah. Despite this, they won the first endurance mission and tended to be one of the better performing teams this season, winning three missions and coming in second in another. Later in the game, Sarah did lament along with Nicole and Linda that the guys tended to hang out with Bryanah more then them but otherwise never seemed to get into any fights with Reece.
  • True Companions: They were particularly close with Gray. Neither planned to turn on each other despite the fact they both did well in missions. Reece even stated they he couldn't imagine being there without Chris. This would end up getting them eliminated however as Orange, who had previously been their ally, knew Purple and Gray would never betray each other and would have sent Orange if either won final 4 temple mission. Purple though did aid Gray one last time by giving their 3 pieces to them, giving Gray a huge lead.
    • Rachel seemed to suggest that Red was quite close with Purple (whom they stated were the most trustworthy and were the recipient of their piece, the only time an eliminated team voluntarily gave their pieces to a team that sent them to temple) though this seemed to be one sided as Purple did not seem to raise objections to sending Red to temple in order to save Orange following the superteam mission.

Brown Team

Tom Maden and Vanetta Smith

While Tom and Vanetta were eliminated in the right to stay challenge, they were brought back along with the other eliminated contestants to compete in the second chance challenge Headstrong. Tom won and picked Vanetta as his partners since she was the girl that remained in the challenge the longest. While Vanetta was close to Nicole, Brown tended to be allies with Yellow and Green.

  • Back from Elimination: They did not survive the right-to-stay challenge, but in a Deus ex Machina, they were brought back.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: The Brown team of the previous season consisted of players who had completed a right to stay challenge. This seasons' brown team consisted of players who explicitly failed to complete the right to stay but got a second chance mission instead. A side effect of this format was that while season 2's Brown team would end up as one of the better mission performing teams (and eventual winner), this brown team consisted of more weaker contestants with little mission success.
  • Dwindling Party: Both members of an Endurance team are usually eliminated at the same time. However, Vanetta's injury meant she had to be taken out of the group while Tom continued as a one man team. Tom was later sent to temple and lost, eliminating Brown for good.
  • Game-Breaking Injury: Vanetta fell and cut her leg on some bamboo. As this required stitches, she had to be taken out of the game.
  • The Load: When deciding Superteams, Yellow didn't pick them because they were relatively weaker than the other teams even though Brown was the only team left that Yellow could consider to be an ally.
    • And explains Vanetta in the mission afterward. At the beginning of Bamboo Jungle, the two superteams were very close to each other in position. However, Vanetta got stuck on one of the obstacles which severely slowed down her team and gave the Yellow-Purple-Gray Superteam an easy win. Even her partner Tom claimed that their superteam would have likely won if Vanetta wasn't with them. Damien (who was on the same superteam as Brown) also considered her the main reason they lost.
    • Vanetta's friendship with Nicole indirectly led to the elimination of Green as, in Squaring Off: during one of Brown's turns after the Yellow-Green-Brown alliance had been giving control where Vanetta convinced a reluctant Tom to let Orange have a turn again even though Orange and the other teams were aiming to get Yellow, Green and themselves out. Orange did not give Brown another turn and the Yellow-Green-Brown alliance were the first three teams out. Orange, who won when Gray eliminated themselves, spared Brown but sent Yellow and Green to temple, eliminating one of their consistent allies in the process.
  • Non-Gameplay Elimination: Vanetta hurt her leg on some bamboo before the final-five Temple Mission. The injury required outside medical attention, including stitching and thus she could no longer compete and left Tom as a one man team. This ended up being the only time someone was eliminated for a non-gameplay reason.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: They didn't seem to have big fights like what some of the other teams this season had (especially compared to Blue and Orange) but they did have disagreements regarding whether to aid Orange or not as Vanetta was close with Nicole while Tom was more loyalty to Yellow. They often didn't do well in missions and Tom believed Vanetta costed them some of the missions, especially Bamboo Jungle.

Red Team

Kareem Nugent and Rachel Lofton

Apart from Brown, this was the last team formed this season as Kareem was bumped twice and Rachel was the only girl who didn't have a partner yet with Rachel disappointed that Reece picked Sarah instead of her. They primarily allied with Purple, Gray and Orange though Kareem seemed to be close with Tom.

  • Et Tu, Brute?: While both were disappointed about going to temple after losing Bamboo Jungle, Rachel felt particularly upset that Purple (who was on the winning superteam with Gray and Yellow) didn't stuck up for them more and instead choose to spare Orange as she felt she was quite close with them. Despite this, Red still gave Purple their piece following their elimination, the only time in the series that a team choose to give their piece to a team that sent them to temple, while reserving their negative remarks to Yellow.
  • Outof Focus: Compared to the other members of their alliance, Kareem and Rachel were quieter. It is known that Kareem and Tom discussed an alliance once Tom came back and that the team overall seemed to be part of the anti-yellow alliance. Demian implied they had partner issues but such arguments were not shown on-screen or mentioned in confessionals. Their lack of success in missions didn't help either.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: While not shown much onscreen, especially compared to the partner issues with the Orange and Blue teams, Demian claimed that Kareem and Rachel were having issues and advised the Yellow team to not pick them (or Brown or his own team) for their superteam for this reason.

Green Team

Bjorn Leum and Alex Reid

Perhaps considered the first team formed this season, they mutually wanted to be partners and were shown to be quite close to each other. They also formed an alliance with Yellow, who were their closest friends, and seemed to be allied with Brown as well. They ultimately proved to be a rather strong team.

  • Tomboyish Name: Alex
  • True Companions: They were the yellow team's best friends, even with everyone else against them. Bjorn and Alex also seemed to be quite close with each other and were very glad to be partners.

Blue Team

Antonio Iannicelli and Willa Zhou

They were formed after Antonio chose Willa to be his partner. Willa though did not like him and she made this fact very open to the other contestants. Despite this, they actually performed decently in missions.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: They were the one team on this season to not be in an alliance. Their constant bickering didn't really help their situation and largely contributed to making them the first team eliminated.
  • Divided We Fall: They never got along.
  • Mercy Kill: They were so dysfunctional as a team that Bryanah sent them to Temple just so they didn't have to deal with each other over the course of the season.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Willa did not get along with Antonio as she did not want him as a partner. She did not seem to make many attempts to try to work out differences and would openly say harsh things about him in front of the others rather than talk it out. They did however do alright in the missions they competed in, coming in (out of 8 teams) third in Ring of Fire and fourth in Bagging on You.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: As they were seen having issues with each other rather than another team, Blue seemed the only team not part of an alliance. Antonio did vow to target Yellow but he only did so after they sent Blue to temple.

No Team

Marshall Katheder and Brandon Anderson;Taylor Madison and Eleanor Monahan

While right to stay contestants that lose the challenge are never really heard from again, they were given a second chance to form the brown team. However, Tom was the winner and picked Vanetta as a partner, thus once again preventing this four from being official contestants.

  • Ascended Fanboy: Eleanor showed to be a big fan of the show in her audition tape (shown in special that looked at how contestants were chosen) which included playing a temple of faith like game with her cat. While she didn't get to stay on the show for very long, she did at least get to be an official endurance contestant.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: They only appeared in a couple of episodes. The fact they got a second chance to earn a spot on a team meant they had slightly longer tenures than other contestants who were eliminated in the right to stay challenges. Taylor is a bit downplayed as it was shown she was good friends with Monroe whom they considered to be soulmates and potential partners if she wasn't eliminated.

     Endurance Tehachapi Contestants

Red Team

Franke Sisto and Erika Cook

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e4_ep413_recap.jpg
some caption text

Franke and Erika were the 3rd team created this season. Erika was one of the strongest contestants in the game and Franke was quite happy to have her as his partner. Franke was known for his quirky comments and was referred to as the comic relief of the group. While Franke's lack of strength did at times hinder the team, he and Erika did seem to get along well. They tended to emphasis friendship over strategy.

  • Action Girl: Erika, she was the reason why Red won their challenges.
  • Always Second Best: In teamwork based missions, Red was often one of the better performing teams but tended to be overtaken by either Green (Waterworks, Fireball) or Purple (Raft Pull, Create Your Own Game).
  • Brains and Brawn: Erika the brawn, Franke the brain.
  • Color Motif: The only team to invoke this by choosing the Heart piece by because of its color.
  • Informed Attribute: Franke believed he would have done well in Cubed which was more of a mental challenge rather the physical challenges that he sometimes struggled in. However, because Red took the samadhi for this mission, he never got to prove this as the penalty was to wait out 60 seconds and Purple managed to complete it in just 51 seconds.
  • The Load: While Erika is one of the strongest contestants this season (being the reason Red won both Drop Out and Circle of Trust), Franke tended to be one of least strongest which is apparent in missions that require strength to win. This was particularly apparent in Hang 5 where Red was the worst performing team due to his lack of strength. Jeszie even mentioned it in her claim that Red wasn't as strong as Purple (and thus not as deserving of the samadhi). He would also be the first contestant out in Circle of Trust even though both members of the Green Team got the samadhi. Downplayed in Spin Fly where Franke got 2 pyramid pieces for red while Erika only got 1. He also believed he would have done well in Cubed but the samadhi and Purple's fast win prevented him from proving this.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: His comments tended to be a common source of comedy for the season and was even explicitly acknowledged as the comic relief of the group by JD.

Purple Team

Jonathan Lebowitz and Daniela Bustamante

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e4_ep411_recap_3.jpg
some caption text

Daniela originally wanted Michael as a partner but Chris instead paired her with Jonathan due to a misunderstanding. While she was at first quite upset about this, the pair learned to work together and, despite being considered an underdog team, did quite well in some of the missions. Jonathan was quite close to Isaac and Chris, thus creating a Purple-Green-Yellow alliance.

  • Ascended Fangirl: Daniela
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Daniela was able to solve a puzzle-based Temple Mission in under a minute.
  • Didn't Think This Through: When deciding who to give the final Samadhi to after Purple won Create Your Own Game, Purple made the decision to give it to Green, their allies throughout the whole game up to this point, instead of Red as Green was usually the tougher competition in missions. With that said, when discussing with Isaac the next day that she hoped that Purple and Green both make it to the finals which Isaac responses that Purple then should have given it to Red (presumbly as it would make it harder for them to win the temple mission). Daniela then admits that now that he brought it up, he was right. In the end, both Purple and Green lose the mission with Green getting eliminated.
  • The Power of Friendship: As J.D. pointed out, their friendship with the green team was a big reason why they made it to the finale. This was because each try to the protect each other as much as could. Downplayed after the final endurance mission when Purple gave Green the samadhi as they would not be able to protect each other in the final temple mission.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Despite being considered an underdog team, they still won a number of missions and made it to the final 2.
  • Shoot the Dog: Gave the Samadhi to Green before the final temple despite preferring to go to the finale with them. Only the winner of the final temple mission would be safe from the temple of fate and Purple considered Green to be the strongest team there. Green though did take it well and were understanding of the situation.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Seemed to be this at first but then averted. Daniela originally wanted Michael to be her partner and was a bit upset when Chris paired her with Jonathan instead (he was not aware of who Daniela wanted) and they did not do particularly well Blocked. They did however quickly rebound when they once Raft Pull and, with the exception of Waterworks, typically performed quite well, winning 4 missions throughout the season. While they did have a bit of debate after they won Cubed on who to send to temple, they never shown actually fighting (especially compared to Green by the later point of the season).

Green Team

Isaac Hainley and Yesenia "Jeszie" Geronimo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e4_ep408_recap.jpg
some caption text

Isaac and Jeszie proved to be one of the stronger teams this season. Their personalities and friendships did cause them some conflicts, particularly later in the competition. Isaac was close to Jonathan (Purple), Chris (Yellow) and Amelia (Blue) while Jeszie was close to Erika (Red). Jeszie also wanted a partner she could control while Isaac tended to resist her demands.

  • The Ace: They were in control throughout the game, winning four missions throughout the season.
    • Broken Ace: After winning three straight missions in a row, their teamwork deteriorated following a big fight, which showed in challenges, and they were the first team eliminated in "Circle of Trust (in fairness, they were handicapped by Purple in that mission and both outlasted Franke).
  • Brutal Honesty: Jeszie was quite outspoken on who she didn't like. She outright told everyone she wouldn't want Franke as a partner and claimed everyone was happier following Julie's elimination. She was also had a yelling match with Isaac after winning Hang 5 where she very openly admitted that she wanted to give the samadhi to either Purple or Blue.
  • Control Freak: Jeszie ideally liked to have control over her partner and even stated she didn't want Franke as a partner because she didn't believe she could control him. This did at times clashed with Isaac if she wanted to target someone who was close to him.
  • A House Divided: Isaac and Jeszie performed well initially in missions but they tended to have disagreements on what to when they won missions, particularly as they differed on what teams to target. Isaac was able to be convinced to give a samadhi to Gray despite a promise to John but he wouldn't budge at Jeszie's later insistence to target Blue while Jeszie tried to avoid targeting Red too much. This reached its climax after the team won Hang 5 as Isaac refused to give the samadhi to either Blue or Purple while Jeszie refused to give to Red which lead to a shouting match between each other and they were still arguing in the moments just before they were to announce their decision. It was only after Erika volunteered to take the samadhi that Jeszie allowed Red to take it. In the aftermath of the fight, their teamwork abilities shown a decline in missions, most notably in Create Your Own Game where they were the worst performing them, and they never won an another mission before their elimination (though they did get a samadhi in the final temple mission which happened to be the type Erika excelled at).
  • Lovable Jock: Isaac was noted in his bio to be involved in numerous sports pre-endurance and his team performed well in many of the physical missions. Unlike Jeszie, who did not seek to have many friendships with the notable exception of Erika, Isaac was much more of a social butterfly and befriended many of the contestants although this would led to some conflict later with Jeszie regarding who to target.
  • Loved by All: Despite their mission success, Green generally lacked enemies with Isaac in particularly bonding with members from several teams. Notably, they were spared Temple after losing the superteam mission even though Yellow had not won a team mission at the point. Purple did later give them a samadhi in the final 3 but only because they would not be able to save each other in the next mission.
  • The Power of Friendship: Their alliance with the Purple Team, based on Isaac's friendship with Jonathan, propelled them both into the final three.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Jeszie's red to Isaac's blue.
  • Spicy Latina: Jeszie
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: While they were able to work quite well in missions, their relationship did deteriorate a bit when it came to deciding who they should target. This was seen in Fireball were they had some disagreement about whether to send Blue (which Jeszie wanted) or Orange (which Isaac wanted) but was even more prevalent in Hang 5 where it became a shouting match over who to give the samadhi to and ultimately only gave it to Red because they offered to take it. This may have in turn impacted their performance in the remaining missions as they didn't perform as well as did earlier in the season.
  • True Companions: Isaac was very close with Jonathan with both trying keep each other safe for as long as they could. Jeszie in turn, who usually was not focus on making friends, became close with Erika. There receptive friendships would cause the time itself to clash after winning the final 4 endurance mission as there was no team both members could agree to target.

Blue Team

Shea Thomas and Amelia Land
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blue_100_1.jpg
So Southern it hurts.

Shea and Amelia were the first team formed this season due to speaking up about who they wanted as partners to JD. Thus, they were exempt from the partner selection challenge. Blue had an alliance with Gray which they openly talked about, making both a target as a result. Amelia later formed a close relationship with Isaac from Green. They were generally considered a underdog team.

  • Good Ol' Boy: Shea
  • Graceful Loser: Even though Purple sent them to temple twice, resulting in their elimination the second time, Shae wrote in his team's elimination letter that he had no hard feelings towards Jonathan.
  • Nice Girl: Amelia. After Purple lost Waterworks (and thus guaranteed to go to temple if they didn't win the following temple mission), she tried to cheer Daniela up by pointing out that there was a still a potential way out. This is despite the fact that when purple won the first temple mission, they sent Blue (and eliminated Blue's closest friends, Gray, in the process). Moreover, when Green was having a hard time deciding who to give the samedhi to after winning Hang 5, she offered to take the samedhi to stop the fighting.
  • Southern Belle: Amelia

Orange Team

While most thought Michael was to be paired with Daniela, Chris instead paired him with Kylie. They tended to be considered an underdog team and usually performed poorly compared to the others. While Kylie was liked by most, over time some felt Michael was untrustworthy due to his tendency to switch alliances. At various points, he was allied with Blue, Gray, and Red.

  • Karmic Death: They eliminated Purple in the Fireball mission knowing that Purple would be forced to go to the Temple of Fate if they didn't win due to the Waterworks penalty. Orange though would also get sent to temple that day after Green won the mission and Orange ending up losing to Purple, getting them eliminated.
  • The Load: Kylie felt that Michael made the team a target due to his reputation of switching allegiances amongst teams and for seeming lacking social skills (Jeszie outright called him a rat). Meanwhile, no one seemed to have any problems with Kylie.
  • Younger Than They Look: Michael.

Yellow Team

Chris won the partner selection challenge and picked Callie as his partner. Chris also got to pick all of the other teams except Blue who was already formed. They were considered a strong team and were close to Green, Red and Purple. Some did find Chris though to be a little too cocky and was considered a potential target by some.

  • Break the Haughty: Chris after losing to Erika which apparently took rather hard according Callie.
  • History Repeats: A girl named Callie (but spelled differently) was placed on the yellow team on Endurance 2 and was also eliminated at temple against the eventual winners.
  • One-Steve Limit: See above.

Gray Team

John Kardian and Julie Dubela

some caption text

John and Julie seemed to be a rather strong team and worked well with each other. The exposure of their alliance with Blue though caused them to be targeted by the other teams.

  • Fatal Flaw: They hardly hid the fact that they had a strong friendship with Blue and made it clear that they wanted to be in the final 2 together. This caused both teams to be targeted immediately as, while everyone was in some sort of alliance at the time, this was the most clear one at the time. Gray got the samadhi as they were the stronger of the 2 teams. Since Blue was more of an underdog team, they weren't as heavily targeted (apart from Jeszie) following Gray's elimination.
  • Graceful Loser: Despite the fact that their elimination was largely the result of nearly every other team apart from Blue targeting in their only temple mission, their goodbye letter stated they still enjoyed meeting everyone and that will we remember their time on the show fondly.
  • Tall Poppy Syndrome: Their strong performance in Blocked as well as the exposure of their alliance with Blue got them the first samadhi and caused them to get sent to temple, leading to their elimination.
  • The Worsening Curse Color: Started the Grey Team Curse again after last season.

No Team

Nick Vederosa, Tucker Baer, and Keith Walker II;Brittany Harvey, Kendall Yorkey, and Brooke Bellows

Unlike most right to stay contestants, these six got to stay for 1 night before being eliminated in the right to stay challenge.

  • Irony: According to Nick, there was a planned alliance between himself, Tucker and Keith. All three were eliminated in the right to stay, making it moot.
  • Tempting Fate: Before the right to stay mission, Tucker told the others he was confident he would survive the right to stay mission. He didn't.

Green Team

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/green_200_1.jpg
Come on, get angry!
Alex Carignan and Cealey Godwin

They were the third team to form, chosen by Dakota and Kelsey. They were also the first team to complete Unwind, making them the first to get a color. They were in an alliance with Red, Orange and Purple, the relationship with the latter was especially close, which later had others accuse Green of being carried by them. Their involvement with the alliance included being part of the blue team switch: they claim Green would switch with Red if Blue let Red have the power, only to have Red switch Blue and Gray instead. They since maintained a rivalry with Blue for the rest of the season (especially between Cealey and Taylor).

  • Born Lucky: Thanks to their alliance with Purple and Red, they only got sent to temple during the final 3 where they beat Blue, who was there on their 4th trip. They made it to the final 2 with their closest friends and, thanks to their performance in the mission to acquire Blue's pieces, went into the final mission with more pyramid pieces than Purple and ultimately won.
    • Alex additionally got to bypass the right to stay challenge thanks to Aric.
  • Brutal Honesty: During the partner selection discussions, Cealey at one point screamed that she didn't want Garret as a partner (she instead wanted Alex) after he told the others he would try to make her his partner.
  • Defeating the Undefeatable: They eliminated Connor & Taylor at the Temple of Fate.
  • Friendship Favoritism: They received this treatment from Purple, the strongest team in their alliance which also included Red and Orange. Green was chosen to be on the superteam with Blue and Yellow so that Green was for sure going to the next round regardless of what superteam won. Purple also chose to keep them safe from Temple in the final 4 and let Red go instead which led to their elimination. This made Green unpopular with other teams (even Red didn't speak highly of them despite giving them a piece) who felt they were just being carried.
  • Hated by All: Both team members were disliked for riding on Purple's coattails; when the eliminated teams voted to give a final 3 team an advantage for the Final Temple Mission, neither Alex or Cealey got any votes. In contrast, every other player still in the game at that point got at least 1 vote.
  • Jerkass: Cealey had her moments, most notably for loudly making fun of Taylor during the final 4.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She consoled Kelsey when the latter didn't win enough votes to get the free ride. And when Taylor was eliminated, Cealey said she loved her.
  • Number Two: To the purple Team, until the finale.
  • Sore Loser: Cealey claimed that Taylor cheated in the Create Your Own Game challenge after Blue won the mission.

Purple Team

Dakota Fisher and Kelsey Schultz

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e507_recap.jpg
The popular kids.

They were the second team created, by Aeriel and Cameron, and the second team to get their color. After they received the Golden Triangle which assured them immunity from one trip up to Temple, they were considered a huge threat. Dakota was a strategist par excellence, planning to switch Blue and Gray when the former won Hot Potato, for example. They also had one of the strongest alliances, but were closest to Green.

  • The Ace: They were in control the entire season. The fact that they won most of the temple missions (with the remainder being won by their allies) allowed to become only the second team on endurance to reach the finals without going to temple. While they did have the triangle of immunity, they never needed to use it on themselves.
  • Betrayal by Inaction: They did this to Red. Purple and Red where in an alliance for most of the game though Purple was always more close to Green. After Purple won the final 4 temple mission, they had the opportunity to save Red from temple (who was facing an automatic trip there due to coming last in the previous endurance mission) with their triangle of immunity but instead choose not to do so. When Red ended up getting eliminated that night, they choose not to give purple either of their pieces because of their tendency to carry Green and for not saving Red when they had the chance.
  • Break the Haughty: Purple in the finale. While they were the dominant team throughout the season in terms of mission success, as well as having a role in creating much of the dramatic moments, their closest friends managed to take the lead in the final mission and then defeated them to become the champions.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Dakota initially struggled to admit he wanted Kelsey as his partner and so some of the initial group plans seem to pair him with Taylor while Kelsey was originally planned to be with Cameron. Cealey, aware of his true thoughts, even expressed annoyance at admitting it. Dakota eventually admits to wanting Kelsey though this leads to more drama as this seemed left Taylor suck with Garret, neither of whom wanted the other, as she had no other plans (though she ended up with Ike instead).
  • Fatal Flaw: Their decision to keep saving Green whenever possible, which made them unpopular with some teams including allies like Red (who choose to not give purple one of their pieces after Purple didn't save them from temple) or Orange (whom Purple didn't give the safe spot in the superteam lineups despite throwing the challenge so Purple could win), cost them in the end as Green was able to overtake them in terms of pyramid pieces after the final mission and then ultimately win the game.
  • Friendship Favoritism: They kept Green safe for as long as they could due their close friendship. This ultimately came back to haunt Purple when Green managed to gain the lead in Swingshot Alley and ultimately won the game.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Putting Connor on the blue team was Dakota's idea. Unfortunately for him, the new blue team would be a force to be reckoned with to the point of being in control of the samadhi the entire season.
    • They kept their best friends, Green Team, safe from elimination as much as they could (Green only went to temple once when Purple won the final 3 temple mission) and thus formed the final 2. Green then beat them at the finale.
  • The Leader: They were essentially the leader of their alliance with Green, Red and Orange. Purple often decided plans for the alliance (such as switching Blue and Gray as well as decide the division of the superteams). Considering they won more missions than their allies, they tended to have the final say anyway.
  • Inevitable Mutual Betrayal: Up until the final 4, Purple was in an alliance with both Green and Red. When purple won the final 4 temple mission though, they had to make a decision that would send at least one of them to temple and be at risk of elimination. Since they were much closer to Green, Red was force to go.
  • Never My Fault: Dakota could not comprehend why Red didn't give them a piece even though Purple was partially responsible for their elimination by not saving them after the final 4 temple mission and their tendency to carry Green whenever possible. Kelsey also blamed the lack of advantage votes for Purple (a combined 2 while Blue got 5) on the eliminated teams being sore losers rather than to take any consideration of Purple's role in their eliminations.
  • No-Damage Run: They never got sent to Temple of Fate prior to the finale. They got the samedhi once but it didn't stop them from winning the following temple mission, a pre-finals run that only E1 Blue accomplished. Subverted though in finals where a poor performance in the final piece mission gave Green the led and Purple ultimately lost in the end.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: The Purple Team made it to the finale with their best friends on the Green Team, yet karma came back when the Green Team took it all.
  • Purple Is Powerful: They were amongst the strongest teams in this season.
  • True Companions: With the green team, until the finale, that is.

Blue Team

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/newblue_200.jpg
You can't get rid of them!
Connor Finnegan and Taylor Sico-McNulty

Originally, Connor was with Darci (as Gray) and Taylor was with Ike (as Blue), former creating the latter. They were switched when Blue won the first endurance mission but gave the partner switch power to Red who (as suggested by Purple) switched them with Gray. Blue proved to be a strong team though frequently targeted by the Purple-Red-Orange-Green alliance. They became close with Yellow but choose to target their former teammates on Gray. The original Blue pairing conflicting a bit though the new Blue team seemed to get along fine.

  • The Ace: They won almost every Endurance Mission and were in control of the Samadhi throughout the season.
    • Broken Ace: They were frequently targeted by the major alliance, especially after the Yellow Team was eliminated.
  • Drama Queen: One could make a drinking game with how often Taylor cried during the course of the season.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Connor leaked Darci's strategy to Yellow; they were eliminated when Blue used it against the Green Team.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Connor felt really bad after Gray team left due to targeting them like all of the other teams and giving yellow the information to eliminate them despite the fact that Gray included his former partner, Darci, and he did like Ike.
  • Nice Guy: Connor was one of the nicest guys in the series. This came back to give him and Taylor a head start in the final Temple Mission.
    • Beware the Nice Ones: However, Connor and Taylor gave the Samadhi to the Gray Team, their former teammates, so that they would remain safe. They would also give the Yellow Team Darci's strategy at the Temple of Fate, so that they would return. Connor did express remorse for these actions though.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Taylor's emotional and tense red to Connor's blue.
  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Connor was concerned about originally being on Gray due the tendency of past Gray teams being eliminated first. While he was able to avoid this himself thanks to being switched to Blue, he and Taylor actively hindered the new Gray team by giving them a samadhi and then told Yellow Darci's temple strategy. If Conno hadn't have done either, Gray might not have been the first colored team eliminated this season.
  • Shoot the Dog: When Connor and Taylor won the first endurance mission after their team switch, they choose to give the samadhi to their former teammates. They knew that Gray were targeted by the Purple, Red, Orange and Green alliance and they promised to not send blue to temple if they gave them the samadhi. Connor also provided Yellow with Darci's temple strategy which allowed Yellow to beat them when Red sent to them against Gray at temple.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork:
    • The original Blue, Ike and Taylor, were this to an extent. First, in the elimination challenge following the partner game, Taylor wanted to go to Blue while Ike was trying to drag her towards Orange. Taylor also wasn't impressed about Ike asking people who the other teams planned to target since it was making teams to consider targeting Blue. They did however managed to win the first Endurance mission which was a teamwork based challenge.
    • Averted with Taylor and Connor who got along a lot better.
  • True Blue Femininity: Taylor wanted Blue when choosing colors while Ike wanted Orange.
  • The Worsening Curse Mark: Averted in regards to the three-temple curse; They broke the Three-Temple Curse. However, they would not survive their fourth trip. As for the Gray gets eliminated first curse though (not counting the colorless team of Garret and Anna), their actions outright sealed their fate by first giving the samadhi to Gray and then leaking Darci's strategy to Yellow.

Red Team

Cameron Uranick and Aeriel Miranda

Formed by Dakota, they were the first team to be paired this season. They were allies with Purple, Green and Orange. They were the team whom the original Blue team gave power to switch teams though it was on the premise that they would switch Aeriel with Cealey. In truth, they carried out their alliance's plan to switch Blue and Gray.

  • Manly Tears: Cameron is visibly upset when they lost to Blue at the temple of fate. Granted, they made it to the final 4 and lost to Blue on their 3rd trip in what would be the only time a team went to temple three times and still remained in the competition afterwords.
  • The Quiet One: Compared to many of the other teams, they didn't seem to be in focus much apart from the team switch and winning the first temple mission.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Their elimination letter noted that while they considered the remaining teams like family, they critiqued Green for being carried this far in the competition and likely resulted in Red's elimination (though Red would still give them a piece) and blamed Purple for the reason they were gone.

Orange Team

Max McFarland and Kristine Turner

They were the fifth team formed this season and created by Aric and Lilly. They were members of the Purple, Red and Green though they were open to sending Green to temple later on, feeling they were being carried by Purple.

  • Didn't Think This Through: Max decided to give up during the mission in Fill and Spill once it was just him and Dakota based on the promise that Dakota would do his team well. Max only realized after doing this that by letting Purple win, he had just given up an opportunity to get his team another pyramid piece (one the rewards for the mission in addition to creating the superteams). It also meant he had no control of the superteams as he wanted to be paired with Blue and Yellow so that he would be safe regardless whether of which superteam won the following mission as either his team wins or his alliance would send Blue and Yellow to temple. Purple instead put Orange with themselves and Red, giving Green the de facto free ride. The latter became moot though as Purple won on behalf of Red and Orange so they were still safe.
    • After being sent to temple by Green, he tries to have Purple lie to Blue about Orange's temple strategy, similar to how Yellow defeated Gray. This backfired as Blue distrusted Purple as they were the masterminds behind the Blue-Gray switch and sent Blue to temple after the superteam mission. Blue won the first round at temple by correctly guessing that Purple was lying to them again and that Orange was still banking on Blue to fall for it (even though Kelsey believed it would not work).
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Max voiced support to give Adrian the immunity from the Right to Stay due to how long he been trying to get on the show and become an official contestant though this ultimately became unsuccessful.
    • Despite the fact his alliance was targeting Yellow, along with Blue, Max made an attempt to convince Purple to send Green instead of Yellow after Purple won Superboats as he didn't think it was fair that Yellow would have to go to temple twice in a row (though the fact he asked Dakota this in Cealey's presence might have been a reason why Green sent Orange to temple after winning the next temple mission).
    • Post-elimination, Max decided to give his final temple mission advantage vote to Connor even though his alliance tried to eliminate Blue for most of the season.
  • The Quiet One: They didn't speak up much through the course of the series, though being in an alliance with the Purple Team may have contributed to that. Max did become a bit more vocal when it came down to the superteam challenge as he wanted orange to be with Blue and Yellow to ensure immunity and attempted to get green sent to temple despite being in an alliance with them.

Yellow Team

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yellow_200_9.jpg
The most honest team.
Aric Manthley and Lilly Brown

Aric was chosen by the guys to get a free pass from the right to stay challenge while Lilly effortlessly completed the challenge. They were paired by Alex and Cealey. They ended up allying with the second incarnation of Blue, especially when the Purple-Red-Orange-Green alliance asserted control of the game.

  • Action Girl: Lilly was this, due to her performances in the RTS and the Partner Selection.
  • Every Year They Fizzle Out: Lilly appeared at first to be one the strongest contestants at first, completing the right to stay before the other girls (and didn't fall in the water once) as well as being the runner up in Unwind and she seemed to get along quite well with Aric. However, Yellow's mission performances were typically quite poor, being the first team eliminated in both Walk The Plank and Fill The Spill (though it didn't help in the later that the PROG alliance ganged up on them and Blue) and finished sixth out of the eight teams.
  • Huge Schoolgirl: Lilly
  • The Quiet Ones: Because they were removed from the rest of the group, PROG used this as an excuse to target them after the Gray Team was eliminated.

Gray Team

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/newgray_200_6.jpg
They just have to win the next four missions in a row.
Isaac "Ike" Moody and Darci Miller

The original Gray team was Connor and Darci, formed by Max and Kristine, but Connor was switched with Ike from Blue. Gray ended up as an early target of just about all of the other teams, mainly because of Ike's unpopularity and tendency to run his mouth. Taylor, his former teammate on the Blue Team, was even irritated by this.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: While still on Blue, many people didn't like how Ike kept asking people who they would give the samadhi to and it made Blue a target by nearly everyone. When he was switched to Gray to be Darci's partner, he was still targeted. Even their former teammates went along with this by giving them the Samadhi and then informed Yellow of Darci's Temple of Fate strategy in order to ensure Gray would be eliminated. The remaining players though, particularly Connor, did express regret over doing this not long after Gray's elimination.
  • The Worsening Curse Color: Last Gray Team Curse to be afflicted with the curse before the Gray Team was discontinued in Season Six. Connor was even notably superstitious about it. Connor even stated that one of the good things about being switched to Blue with Taylor was that he now had a "better color", citing the poor performances of most of previous Gray teams. Connor would end up making this happen, first by giving Gray the samadhi and then by giving Yellow Darci's temple strategy which sealed Gray's fate.

Colorless Team

Garret Manno and Anna Nti Asare

Formed by Connor and Darci, neither really wanted to be paired with each other. Garret wanted Cealey and Anna didn't want Garret. They were only a team for a brief time since a twist meant they had to compete in a challenge where the last place team was automatically eliminated and that was ultimately them, hence their lack of a color. It was said that both members were close with Red but they instead choose to give the triangle of immunity to purple.

  • Hated by All: Nobody wanted Garret for a partner. He was not well liked by the guys either. This was not helped that he insisted they he wanted Cealey as a partner despite the fact even she vocally said she didn't want him. Some even planned to pair him with Taylor so that they both potentially be eliminated in one go. He ended up with Anna though as Ike apparently told Connor he wanted Taylor.
  • Odd Couple: Garret made it very clear that he wanted Cealey as his partner even though she wanted to be with Alex (and vice versa). When he ended up with Anna, he didn't seem interested in communicating with her despite her attempts.
  • Younger Than They Look: Garret just turned 13 when the season started filming.

No Team

Adrian Bardales and Rafael Liriano;Martina Iwala and Stefanie Fernandez

  • Can't Catch Up: After failing to complete a single lap due to constantly falling in the water and losing energy with every fall, Martina decided to quit during the challenge. Granted, she would have needed to complete 5 laps before 2 of the other girls in order to stay.
    • Adrian and Rafael also struggled to the point that they failed to complete a lap which allowed Cameron and Ike, who also really struggled in the mission, to complete their laps with a massive lead.
    • Stefanie was slightly downplayed as it was a rather close race between her and Anna for the final spot.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Only seen for 2 episodes though they at least got to stay at the treehouses for 1 night rather than having to leave on the first day.

     Endurance Fiji Contestants

Blue Team

Ben Scheuer and Jordyn Barbato

The fifth team formed, paired by Jonathan and Hannah. They did not take part in any alliance and were seen as being amongst the weakest teams. They did however, tend to keep out of drama.

  • Dark Horse Victory: They were a relatively weak team, having only won a single mission throughout the season (in contrast, Green, Orange and Red each won at least 2). They also had less pieces going into the final than their opponent Green. Blue though managed to be the only team to start the final challenge with less pieces than the opponent but still ended up winning.
  • Nice Guy and Girl: They were praised by the other contestants for not lying or backstabbing others as well as their tendency to not cause unnecessary drama. These traits even served as a big reason for why they were awarded the Karma piece by the fallen teams.
  • Underdogs Never Lose: Likely the most straightest example of the show. They were not a physical strong team and only won half of a temple mission. They were targeted by the stronger teams after Yellow was eliminated which meant they weren't being carried by others for most of the game and had 2 trips to the temple of fate. They even went into the final challenge with less pieces than Green but still won, marking the only time on the show that the team with less pieces still won.
  • Weak, but Skilled: They worked well together but were physically weak. The only mission they won was the first half of double temple mission, a memory challenge. Their actual strength was getting along well with other people which proved useful in acquiring Purple Team's pieces as well as being voted to get the "Luck" and "Karma" pieces.

Green Team

Will Cuddy and Leslie Powell

The second team formed this season after being paired by Connor and Jackie. Both initially got their spot after winning a vote contest to decide the last players of the season. They allied with Orange and somewhat with Red and turned out to be one of the strongest teams in the game.

  • The Ace: They were in control throughout most of the game.
  • The Chessmaster: They lied about what was in the magic box to grant themselves fake immunity from Temple after the first Temple Mission, and they kept it a secret, even from their closest allies, until they went to Temple and used it against said allies.

Red Team

Jonathan Young and Hannah Gross

The fourth team formed, paired by Caleb and Leslie. They were amongst the stronger teams though Jonathan and Hannah did tend to argue with each other in certain missions. They had a side pact with the Green-Orange alliance in the early part of the season.

Orange Team

Caleb Courtney and Lauren Dixon

The third team formed, paired by Will and Leslie. They were in an alliance with Green for the duration of the game as well as having a side pact with Red. They were also amongst the stronger teams this season.

  • One Head Taller
  • The Reveal: Their farewell letter revealed everything about their secret alliance with the green team and the lie about what was in the magic box.
  • True Companions: They had a secret alliance with the green team and gotten along well with them. It did have a bit of a rift though when they got sent to Temple against each other and the green team used the magic box against them (Green chose to not reveal the contents of the box to Orange despite their alliance). Orange still gave green one of their pieces to Green though (the other went to Red).
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Caleb

Purple Team

Connor Konz and Jackie Wei

The first team formed this season after Connor won the partner selection mission. They tended not to be in an alliance with anyone else and became a target of Green, Orange and Red.

  • Asian and Nerdy: Defied. Jackie wanted to proved she was more that some nerdy little Asian girl in her own words.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: They were stunned that Red sent them to temple with yellow as they taught they were good friends with them.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Jackie had this kind of hairstyle
  • Tall Poppy Syndrome: Their superior performance in the first temple mission caused them to become a target to the green and orange teams after the yellow team was eliminated.
  • Weak, but Skilled: This was the reason why they got targeted.

Yellow Team

Kyle Curtis and Briana Vega

The last team formed, paired by Jonathan and Hannah. Briana was not keen on being paired with Kyle, even though no else had any issues with him, since she did not know him as well as some of the other guys. However, they were paired as everyone else was in agreement with who they wanted.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Briana's refusal to have Kyle as her partner without even giving him a chance had gotten her team ostracized for their entire game. It didn't help that everyone else was already made up their minds on who they wanted to be paired with.
  • The Complainer Is Always Wrong: Briana's initial unwillingness to consider Kyle as a potential partner, and in turn threaten everywhere one else's partner plans, caused Yellow to be targeted, even after Kyle and Briana began working out their differences.
  • Drama Queen: Briana. Kyle suspected the reason Yellow was given the automatic sentence to temple was because of the drama over the partner selection when Briana voiced opposition to being paired with Kyle since she didn't know him well. Connor had called her out on the fact that she didn't really try to get to know Kyle (whom no one seemed to dislike) before making a big fuss over the fact she would likely be paired with him.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Briana was shocked when Orange gave sent her & Kyle to an automatic temple trip as she considered Lauren one of her best friends.
