"Brimming with love , Cure Heart!"

The team leader and Student Council President of Oogai Middle School. She tends to act before she thinks, and is always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. She defeats most of the Monsters of the Week by herself, thanks to the support of her teammates. Her best friend is Rikka, her other childhood friend is Alice, Mana is a fan of Makoto, and she befriends Regina during the series. Her dream is to be Prime Minister of Japan.

  • Academic Athlete: She has good grades and is multi-talented in sports.
  • The Ace: Very athletic and dependable. She got used to her powers quicker than some of the earlier protagonists.
  • Accidental Public Confession: In Episode 48 she blurts out her secret identity in public. Fortunately, this turns out to be a good thing, because everyone starts cheering her on during the battle with King Jikochuu.
  • Achilles in His Tent: In episode 22, her friendship with Regina and desire to keep her as a ally comes into question when King Jikochu's manipulation forces them to fight, being unable to to use the Lovely Force Arrow. Thus, to help her get over it, Cure Ace takes away Mana's Lovead in episode 23 for her to learn, which causes problems when Leva and Gula's more powerful Jikochuu annihilates the other three Cures in combat.
  • All-Loving Hero: She dislikes fighting, and avoids it when she has another option. She also does not hold grudges against the villains. For instance:
    • She tells Bel she has no reason for taking his challenge because the destruction of the Trump Kingdom can't be undone.
    • Despite the fact that the villains from the Selfish Kingdom are her enemies and keep attacking the humans, she tries to avoid senseless battles and befriend them, like Regina.
    • Deconstructed in episode 22, where her feelings prevent her from using the Lovely Force Arrow on the now completely brainwashed Regina, which leads her and the rest of the team to get curbstomped with ease. However, as revealed an episode later, this may have happened because she was worried the Lovely Force Arrow wouldn't have its intended effect.
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: When she casts away her Heroic BSoD she and Cure Ace engage Leva and Gula as a pair of badasses in Episode 23.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": She disguises herself as Princess Marie-Ange to prevent Makoto from quitting her idol career. Unfortunately, Makoto immediately recognizes her because Mana's disguise is just a mask made of a sheet of paper with the drawn face of the Princess while wearing the school uniform and she calls Makoto "Makopi" instead of "Cure Sword". Ironically, Mana's play with her voice is perfect.
  • Bad Liar: She plays with her hair whenever she lies. Rikka doesn't buy any of her lies.
  • Badass Adorable: As a baby she was able to climb to the top of a climbing frame.
  • Badass Armfold:
    • Mana does this, after she just fought two Jikochuus and saved her Cure friends in her civilian form. It's even better, Mana is absolutely clean, while her friends are all covered in ink.
    • She does this later again, when Regina begs her to save her father in Episode 48.
  • Badass Boast: In Episode 21.
    Cure Heart: "Don't give up!"
    Regina: "But-"
Cure Heart: "I don't want to hear any excuse! This here is nothing! Do you know who I am? I am Oogai Middle School's Student Council President!"
    Regina: "Is that special?"
Cure Heart: "Of course! The Student Council President is stronger than everyone, for the smiles of the students! Stronger than you and your papa!"
Charle: "That's right! Mana is number one of the universe!"
  • Badass in Distress: In Episode 21, when she and Regina are hanging from a spider web and above a pit of lava. It doesn't stop her from being badass, as she catches Regina with her legs. She later becomes this again in episode 44.
  • Badass Normal: In the first episode alone, she ran at the speed of an Olympic medalist to help out her classmates, ran up the stairs of a 999 m tall tower, and was thrown by a crab Jikochu into a railing with barely a scratch. Also, she scolded a Jikochuu before she even became Precure. Later in Episode 23, she bounces an autograph card Jikochuu with her voice and she deflects the ink stream of the pen Jikochuu to the other Jikochuu; both Jikochuus start to argue each other.
  • Battle Aura: She gains hers as a flowing radiant pink in Episode 23 in Precure form for completing her challenge.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • How do you save a person (Regina), who you just carried on your back, from commiting Heroic Sacrifice while you're hanging above a pit of lava and without using your hands? Use your legs.
    • In her first battle, she saves Cure Sword, who is dragged down by the second crab Jikochuu, by jumping from the roof, catching her hand and then holding of to a steel cable.
    • Mana saves Diamond, Rosetta and Sword from two Jikochuus in her civilian form. With just her voice and a parasol.
    • In episode 45, she does this for both Cure Ace and Regina.
  • Bishie Sparkle: When Jun met her for the first time. But for him, she was like a "prince on a white horse".
  • Break the Cutie: She gets emotionally very hurt when she sees Regina being brainwashed, fighting her and the others, and being defeated by Cure Ace. And then she suffers the same pain as Makoto and the mascots when Leva and Gula nearly destroy her hometown.
  • Brought Down to Badass: Temporarily in Episode 23, her Cure Laveads is taken away by Cure Ace as a Secret Test of Character, so she can't transform. That doesn't stop her from fighting two Jikochuus who had beaten her friends.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Despite her cheerful, airheaded nature, she still manages to be a competent Student Council President.
  • Character Catchphrase: ''Kyun~kyun~"
  • Chest Blaster: Cure Heart's first attack "My Sweet Heart" is fired off from her heart brooch.
  • Childhood Friends: With Rikka and Alice. The movie retconned her classmates Nikaidou, Momota, and Yashima to the gang.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: She just has to personally help anyone in need, despite the fact that she is the Student Council President and could simply delegate the responsibility to the appropriate member. This repeatedly come back to bite her. She even tries to be a hero to Regina of all people, trying to be her friend much to Makopi's dismay. Regina is on the side of the Eldritch Abomination who destroyed Makopi's homeworld.
  • Combat Stilettos: They don't interfere her jumps and landings.
  • Cooldown Hug: In Episode 47, she delivers one to Regina. That's how she gets her heart and friendship with Mana back.
  • Crash-Into Hello: She met Alice by accidentally running into her and have become close friends ever since.
  • Cuddle Bug: Has the tendency to hug her friends a lot.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Pink hair and pink eyes in civilian form.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: The idea of her singing causes her friends to run for cover and cover their ears.
  • Cuteness Overload: When Ai-chan is involved, she becomes enamoured to the point where the only thing she can focus on is Ai's cuteness.
  • Determinator: She doesn't give up easily, even if she suffers a Heroic BSoD. She impresses Melan so much that she reminds her of Cure Empress and gaining the Legendary Crystal Mirror/Magical Lovely Pad.
  • Ditzy Genius: Despite being excellent in academics, she has a lot of not-so-smart-moments and be a kluz.
  • Dreadful Musician: She's good at a lot of things, but one thing she absolutely cannot do well is singing. The idea of her singing causes her friends to run for cover and cover their ears.
  • Dub Name Change: In the dub, she's called Maya and her Cure name was changed to Glitter Heart.
  • 11th-Hour Superpower: Parthenon Mode is a Combined Energy Attack consisting of all the other Cures plus Regina channeling their power to her and allows her to match the legendary Cure Empress and defeat the Proto-Jikochuu.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Mana is noted to be be extremely well-liked by just about everyone, and one of her male childhood friends has a crush on her. Meanwhile, another of her childhood friends, Rikka is also rather close to her, to the point of getting jealous of Makoto in episode 10, when Mana starts spending more time with her. Regina is also extremely clingy with her.
  • Evil Laugh: In episode 7, she counters Bel's cackle with her own because the Cures don't give up hope easily.
  • Fairy Tale Wedding Dress: Her family owns one, which was used by her grandmother from mother's side, as revealed in Non-Serial Movie. Her future self gets to wear it in her wedding. It's also the basis of her movie-exclusive Super Mode, the aptly-named Engage Mode.
  • Fantastically Indifferent: Her reaction to meeting Charle is simply to introduce herself and shake her hand. Lampshaded by Rachel and Lance.
  • Fangirl: Was a huge fan of Makoto's idol career and even continues to act like a fangirl as Makoto continues, though more as a friendly advisor.
  • Genki Girl: She was very energetic and cheerful, even when she was a baby. She gave her mother a tough time.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: After suffering a heavy breakdown following a losing battle to a fused Leva and Gura, who break the Magical Lovely Pad they worked on in the last episode, Mana does this to herself, via slapping her on the cheeks, in Episode 31, promising to get over her doubt and gets the others to continue the fight.
  • The Glomp: Gives one to Regina in Episode 39, out of relief of seeing her okay… As well as interrupting her evil speech.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Her selfless and selfish desire to help any and everyone changes her hair from pink to yellow in her Cure form, where she can now follow through on her goals when it comes to Jikochu. As Rikka and Alice later point out, she's too caring to a fault, which becomes both a blessing and a curse later on.
  • Heartbroken Badass: She loses her entire will to fight back when Regina is put through even stronger Face Heel Brainwashing and loses all hope that the Lovely Force Arrow will be able to save Regina, losing her transformation in the process and needing Ace to remind herself that she has the power to save her fallen friend..
  • The Heart: She's the moral compass of the team, and the team wouldn't have become True Companions without her kind and forgiving nature.
  • Heart Beat-Down: Guess what. She's Cure Heart and all of her attacks involving using and focusing her the energy of her heart as a weapon.
  • Heroic BSoD:
    • After Regina is forced back into the Selfish Kingdom again, Mana becomes pretty depressive, keeping herself in her room. Thankfully, Ai-chan and Aguri aka Cure Ace save her from crossing the Despair Event Horizon.
    • After Magical Lovely Pad is destroyed, it seems that she's going into this, but she gives herself a Get a Hold of Yourself, Woman! slap!
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Forms this with her childhood friend and confidant Rikka, and in the end with Regina, who lives in her house in the epilogue.
  • Hikikomori: She briefly becomes this in episode 23, skipping school and refusing to going out of home. Fortunately, Ai-chan snapped her out of it.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf:
    • Mana is so hideously bad at singing that Rikka and Alice ran for cover then covered their ears outside the blast-radius of the "lullaby" she tried to sing for Ai-chan, which sent all the birds in the park flying off in terror.
    • It happens yet again during Pretty Cure All Stars: Spring Carnival: "THE WORLD IS LIKE A MERRY-GO-ROUND!!!"
      Hibiki Hojo: T-This is music?!?
  • Hot-Blooded: To a lesser degree than other Precure heroines, but she has her moments.
  • In-Series Nickname: Rikka calls her sometimes "The Happy Prince".
  • Large Ham: Sometimes she can be one, such as when she gave an Evil Laugh back to Bel before proceeding to deconstruct his plan and especially when she announces her identity to everyone in town.
  • The Leader: The de-facto leader of the team.
  • Mage Marksman: Her "Heart Shoot" has her use a magical bow to fire a gigantic heart like an arrow.
  • Meaningful Name: Her first name means "love". The "Ai" in Aida name can also mean "love" or "togetherness". Cure Heart, besides the obvious theme, is a reference to the suit of cards.
  • The Mentor: She is one her schoolmates, being kind, helpful and giving advice when they need it.
  • Modesty Shorts: As a Cure, she wears bright pink bike shorts under her skirt.
    • Hers are much easier to see than the others due to how her skirt is shaped.
    • In one of her summer outfits, she wears black bike shorts under a short ruffled skirt, fitting her energetic nature.
  • Nerves of Steel:
    • When faced with a villain Evil Laughing and the possibility that she and her friends will be trapped in another dimension forever, she confidently counters this with her own Evil Laugh, challenging him that since he can hop between worlds, all they need to do is beat him until he transports them back
    • Subverted, in episode 22, where she flips out when she is forced to fight a brainwashed Regina.
    • Even after she breaks down in tears in Episode 31, she quickly cheers herself up.
  • Nice Girl: Not one selfish bone in her body, this young lady has. She's a cheerful girl who's kindness and dedication has earned her the respect of her best friends, her classmates and teachers, and even some of the monsters. Though her kindness can lead to her overworking herself, she still pushes on and attracts others around her.
  • No Indoor Voice: Lampshaded in her introduction. And there are many situations where she's very loud.
  • Oblivious to Love:
    • She loves everyone in platonic sense. Some of them think otherwise.
    • The movie has her asking Nikaidou about the girl he likes, while looking straight at his blushing face. She gets called out of it in the following scene.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The normally energetic and unfazed, becomes a broken mess because Regina got brainwashed one more time and then was taken back to Jikochuu, making her fall into a depression for a while.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise.
    • Used literally in Episode 24, when she just wears a mask made of a sheet paper with the drawn face of Marie-Ange... while wearing her school uniform. Of course, MakoPi recognizes her immediately... Because Marie-Ange would never call her "MakoPi".
    • When she, Rikka and Alice were six, they put ridiculously weird looking masks on their heads, disguising themselves as decoration. It worked.
  • Parasol of Pain: She uses a beach parasol as a deflector shield in Episode 23. It didn't break, despite the ink stream being strong enough to send the three other Precures flying.
  • Parental Substitute: When Ai is born quickly assumes the role of mother for her.
  • Passing the Torch: In the ending, Jun took over her position as Student Council President.
  • Pink Heroine: She has pink hair and has pink in her skirt, shoes and shirt. As a Cure, she is clad predominantly in pink.
  • Plucky Girl: She doesn't have it in her to give up.
  • The Pollyanna: Incredibly positive and cheerful, bad moods don’t get her down for long.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Her deep magenta hair turns bright blonde as Cure Heart. Notably, like Peach and Bloom, she's a pink Cure who doesn't have pink hair in Cure form.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: Like most leading Precures, her regular magenta curls reach down to her neck, but in Cure form, her hair extends all the way into a massive ponytail that reaches her legs, gains two more curls, and two more loops of hair.
  • Punished for Sympathy: She gets severely chastised and abandoned by Makoto for trying to befriend Regina, who happens to have destroyed Makopi's country.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: She's the optimist and headstrong Red Oni to Rikka's realist and analytical Blue.
  • Say My Name: Screams "Regina!" at some points. Her own name is also shouted very often, usually by Rikka or the aforementioned Regina. And Tatsuya in the finale.
  • Screw Destiny: Unlike Aguri, who believes it is destiny and that it can't be avoided, Mana believes that there has to be a solution for both Aguri and Regina to co-exist after learning about their origins.
  • She's Back: In Episode 23, she goes back to her old cheerful and energetic self after suffering a Heroic BSoD after Regina is brainwashed, where she was a gloomy and depressive Hikikomori, even the other girls are glad to have her back.
  • Seven Heavenly Virtues: Temperance is the only virtue she lacks. She can't help herself to help others whenever the chance/need arises.
  • Skilled, but Naive: Despite the fact, that she is an academic genius, Mana's view on life and humanity is so rose-tinted that it rivals a pre-schooler in sheer naivety.
  • Slipknot Ponytail: In episode 23, her ponytail comes off when Cure Ace take her Cure Laveads from the ribbon holding it.
  • The Smart Girl: Compared to most other lead Cures, Mana has good grades. Also, she instantly pointed out that there is more than one way to escape from a parallel world.
  • Student Council President: A first for Pretty Cure leaders, and a competent one too.
  • Super Mode: Mana gains three power up super forms, two of which become her final forms.
  • Super-Strength: Mana is able to effortlessly carry a duffel bag full of school books so heavy that a boy can barely drag with one hand while not transformed. Granted, Jun is a quite short by the standards of normal thirteen-year-old boys (he's shorter than Mana), but it still speaks volumes on how fit and athletic she is. Carrying a heavy beach parasol seems not to be a problem for her, either.
  • Supreme Chef: She's a really good cook, just like her family.
  • Tareme Eyes: Her round and youthful eyes fit her cheerful and kind personality.
  • Trauma Conga Line: In Episode 22 and 23, Regina's latest round of Face Heel Brainwashing takes quite a toll on her. She gets somewhat better midway episode 23, but it's still quite shocking for a children's show, especially Pretty Cure, for a series to nearly break the main character in a way Gen Urobuchi would be proud of.
  • Unfazed Everyman: A lot of the bizarre elements in the story hardly bother or unnerve her. Her reaction in seeing Charle, Cure Sword and Jikochu in episode 1 is one of excitement, and her first reaction from seeing Ai's reaction is to jump and hug her while Rikka chastises her not even beginning to ask the mirade of questions with keeping a magical flying baby.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: In episode 46, Mana reprimands Aguri for her fight against Regina without letting her know the truth of her and Regina's origins.
  • You Remind Me of X: Being a Determinator, she reminds Melan of Cure Empress. Also, she reminds Proto-Jikochuu of her, too.

    Rikka Hishikawa (Cure Diamond)

Voiced by: Minako Kotobuki (Japanese), Cassandra Lee Morris (English) Foreign VAs

"The light of wisdom, Cure Diamond!"

The secretary of the Oogai Middle School Student Council. She has a good heart but is constantly burdened with work and stopping people from taking advantage of Mana's good nature. Both are best friends since their childhood. After becoming a Precure, Rikka is a supportive member and freezes the enemies up. Her dream is to be a doctor like her mom.

  • The Ace: On a team filled with female badasses, Rikka has proven herself time and time again. However, she gets less action than the others.
  • Angelic Beauty: To Ira with his Identity Amnesia she looks like an angel.
  • Animal Motif:
    • Subverted with her love of frogs. Her room is full of frog merchandise, including a frog clock and frog bed linen; she has even frog slippers and a frog apron. During the Festival Episode, she tries to win another frog doll. In addition, Rachel'snote  Verbal Tic is 'Keru~' which is very close to the Japanese word for frog, 'Kaeru'. However, she's neither represented by a frog nor does she represent a frog. Alice's flashback in Episode 33 suggests that her fondness for frogs comes from playing outdoors.
    • Swallows seem to be her real animal motif. With Mana being compared with the Happy Prince, Rikka is often compared as Mana's swallow.
  • Ass Kicks You: In Episode 36, Rachel in his Commune form drags her body with flying at full force directly towards the Blood Ring Jikochuu, making it a combination of Use Your Head and Ass Kicks You. Surprisingly, it works.
  • Athletically Challenged: She's rather unathletic. Even Aguri is more athletic than her.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: When she was six, she analyzed completely Alice's mansion with a gadget that she just got by Sebastian.
  • Badass Boast: To Ira in Episode 47:
"If you do not know, I will tell you: Diamond is unbreakable!"
  • Badass Bookworm:
    • She has confused a herd of Jikochuus by just shouting a random long number.
    • The way she plays karuta makes Mana look like a baby.
  • Bishie Sparkle:
    • It's suggested that Ira see her with this.
    • It actually happens in Episode 36, when Rachel sees her smiling face.
    • In Episode 34, she and her mother got a "mother-daughter" sparkle moment.
  • Blue Means Smart One: Rikka's theme color is blue and she's a Badass Bookworm who once managed to scare a herd of MOTWs simply by shouting out a long number.
  • Book Smart: She is one of the best students in the country, being one of the top ten scoring students in the national trial exams.
  • Childhood Friends: Has this relationship with both Mana and Alice. Mana’s side is usually given more focus.
  • Curtains Match the Window: She has blue eyes and her hair is also blue (albeit darker) as a civilian. As a Cure, her eyes and hair are both blue.
  • Cuteness Proximity: When Ai-chan is involved, she goes goo-goo-eyed.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Fits a similar role as Rin, snarking back at her more whimsical teammates' antics.
  • Dub Name Change: In the dub, her first name is changed to "Rachel" and her Cure name was changed to Glitter Diamond.
  • Face Palm: When she sees how Rachel's heart get broken in Episode 36.
  • Fantastically Indifferent: She has a stoic expression when Mana shows up with a carrot costume in Episode 37.
  • Finger Poke of Doom: Cure Diamond's first attack "Twinkle Diamond". She fires ice diamonds from her finger.
  • Full-Name Basis: She calls Cure Heart always "Cure Heart".
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In episode 48, she performs a blizzard attack that traps herself and various Jikochuu inside a ice prison. However, she comes out fine at the end of the episode.
  • An Ice Person: All of her attacks involving using ice to harm, stunt, attack, and/ or freeze her enemies into submission.. It's a surprise that neither of her finishing moves are called "Diamond Dust".
  • In the Back: It backfires: when she does this to Melan, Melan does this back at her.
  • Kirk Summation: Gives one to Regina in episode 44. It almost snaps her out of her brainwashing.
  • Luminescent Blush:
    • When Ira with his amnesia thanks to her or gives her compliments, she blushes.
    • Her face becomes completely red in Episode 34, when the girls comments about Rikka's baby story.
  • Making a Splash: Diamond Swirkle, surrounds the enemy with water.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name "Rikka" means snowflake. The "Hishi" is her surname means "a diamond shape". Cure Diamond refers to the suit of cards.
  • Modesty Shorts: Not as obvious as Cure Heart's, but you can barely see them in her solo part of the ending credits.
  • More Dakka: Her attack "Twinkle Diamond" spams... diamonds.
  • Nice Girl: In Episode 26, she finds an injured Ira with amnesia and decides to cure him, despite he's her enemy. She also cooks for him, feeds him and protects him from Cure Ace. He often tells her how nice she is in that episode. It pays off, as Ira secretly protects the Precures when he regains his memories.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Causes the conflict of Episode 35 by unintentionally rooting a fear of doctors in Makoto.
  • Only Sane Woman: The only voice of reason grounded in mundane reality of the four. She alone is still concerned with how bizarre a flying baby that hatched out of an egg is rather than how cute she is. Quite the opposite of the Cloud Cuckoo Lander who was Mugi, Minako Kotobuki's most beloved role.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The calm and polite Blue Oni to Mana's energetic and kind Red.
  • Refusal of the Call: Initially when she's asked to become a Pretty Cure she thinks she's not good enough. Later when Joe Okada gives her a Cure Lovies she tells him she can't accept it because she thinks he's suspicious. Joe replies that he didn't choose her, the Lovies did, and it's her decision as to what to do with her power. She chooses to use it.
  • Seven Heavenly Virtues: Temperance. Without her, who knows what kind of problems Mana will run into.
  • Shrinking Violet: Whenever she considers herself as incompetent or experiences uncomfortable situations like Mana getting closer to Makoto.
  • Shy Blue-Haired Girl: Especially when she was a child. In Episode 2, she mentions that she becomes shy whenever she meets strangers. It doesn't seem so.
  • The Smart Girl: She's the smartest and most academically accomplished Cure.
  • Squishy Wizard: Admits that she's not much of an athlete. In battles, she rarely uses close quarters combat unlike her teammates.
  • Stealth Pun: It seems that her penchant for frogs is based from Rachel's Verbal Tic "-keru" which sounds like the frog's noise "kero" or her wish for her parents to come homenote .
  • Teen Genius: Incredibly smart and well-read.
  • True Blue Femininity: Her theme colour is blue and she’s traditionally feminine.
  • Tsurime Eyes: Her sharper eyes fit her calm and cool (for the most part) personality.
  • Water Is Womanly: The most maturely feminine Cure and has water powers.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: Her father is a photograph and travels to other countries, so he's rarely home. Her mother works in a hospital and comes often late at home.
  • The Worf Effect: She hasn't defeated a Jikochuu since Diamond's introductory episode. And her attack Diamond Shower hasn't successfully frozen her enemies since episode 15 (except episode 19). On the whole, though, it's Subverted, as her efforts usually contribute to the defeat of the Monster of the Week.

    Alice Yotsuba (Cure Rosetta)

Voiced by: Mai Fuchigami (Japanese), Melissa Fahn (English) Foreign VAs

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cure_rosetta.png
Click here to see her as a civilian

"The warmth of the sun, Cure Rosetta! / As warm and bright as the Sun! I'm Glitter Clover!"

A gentle and talented Zaibatsu heiress who goes to the prestigious Nanatsuhashi Private Academy. First she refuses to become a Precure because she went once berserk in the past. However, she decides to protect her friends with her powers and she's now a defensive member.

  • Alice Allusion: Due to the fact that the Cures are all themed after the suits of playing cards, with a special emphasis on hearts.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: In episode 48, there's an Attack of the 50-Foot Teddy Bear when Alice summons a giant Lance using Rosetta Balloonnote . However, he mostly serves to distract King Jikochuu.
  • Attack Reflector: Her shields have this purpose.
  • Badass Adorable: Gentle, calm and kind… And has been talented in martial arts since she was a young kid.
  • Barrier Warrior: As Cure Rosetta. As made very apparent in Episode 33. She uses one of her barriers as a ledge to jump off of, then breaks her Rosetta Reflection in half and uses the pieces as Deadly Half-Discs.
  • Big Fancy House: With secret tunnels and traps.
  • Bully Hunter: As a kid, she beat up a group of bullies.
  • Childhood Friends: She’s known Mana and Rikka ever since she invited them to her house as young kids.
  • Clasp Your Hands If You Deceive: A rare heroic example, as she does this pose quite a bit.
  • Cool Plane: She has a personal (and likely re-usable) one-manned space shuttle that would came in handy in episode 41.
  • Crimefighting with Cash: She tries to invoke this by proclaiming herself as Precure's producer, but eventually she has to take the matters into her own hands.
  • Cultured Badass: She's relative good with Japanese culturally activities like tea ceremony, matsuri festivals and other non-Japanese culturally things like piano, painting, dancing. You can expect that she can do almost everything. Including piloting a space shuttle of her own.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Her eyes and hair are very similar in colour, specifically, brownish-orange. The similarity in colour becomes less blatant when she becomes a Cure however.
  • Cute Bruiser: Applies to all Cures, but she counts even in civilian form - she was trained in various martial arts by her grandfather and managed to beat up three bullies on her own as a kid.
  • Dub Name Change: In the dub, her name is Clara and her Cure name was changed to Glitter Clover.
  • Fantastically Indifferent:
    • Her reaction to a crab Monster of the Week attacking Clover Tower? "Sebastian, perhaps we could raise it at home?"
    • She gets pretty hyped when she sees Melan's dragon form and asks Sebastian to take her home.
  • Fiction 500: She's likely the richest person to become a Precure in the franchise's history. It does help that her family owns nearly everything. She has so much wealth that when a Monster of the Week asks how much money she has, she admits she's not really sure. Even her butler has thrown ludicrous amounts of wealth around on occasion.
    • Even more so at the end of the series, with Trump Republic now having regular trade with this world, and Alice apparently is now carrying their magic-infused products in her company’s catalogue. She just casually dropped an order of a million of those automated mops, very likely intended to resell and make some bank while doing it.
  • Girlish Pigtails: As Cure Rosetta, her hairstyle changes from odango hair to this.
  • The Heart: Fills this role for the team.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: Just because she's a Barrier Warrior doesn't mean she can't fight at all. And don't think barriers can't be used in offensive ways, Mamo have learned this three times.
  • Improbable Piloting Skills: She's just 14, but she is capable of flying a seaplane and pilot a space shuttle all by herself.
  • Improbable Weapon User: In Episode 33, she takes her in two halves broken Rosetta Reflection and uses them like Mai Shiranui's Paperfan Of Doom and then throws them like Cure Mint's Emerauld Saucers.
  • I'm Taking Her Home with Me!: Her Fantastically Indifferent reaction to the crab Jikochuu. Also, to Melan's dragon form.
  • Invisible Parents: Until her father is introduced in Episode 33. It's also mentioned that her mother is an opera singer who finally showed herself in Episode 47.
  • Kamehame Hadouken: In Episode 25, she gets a Power-Up, now she can Catch and Return attacks in this fashion.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: Can launch her barrier, and is the only one on the team who practiced martial arts.
  • Letting Her Hair Down: A more mundane than usual version of this happens in Episode 29, when she goes to sleep.
  • Lonely Rich Kid: She didn’t have a lot of friends she was younger due to her illness, but she grew out of this when she met Mana and Rikka.
  • Internal Retcon: Taken to extreme lengths - the Precures fighting monsters in broad daylight hasn't attracted attention because she pays people to do this to the entire Internet (alongside other things like destroying security camera records). Being the heiress to a giant media corporation is useful.
  • Modesty Shorts: Like with Cure Diamond, you can just barely see them in the ending.
  • Parasol of Prettiness: She is often seen carrying one around.
  • Pink Means Feminine: She actually doesn't wear pink, but her limousine, airplane and helicopter are pink.
  • Out of Focus: In Episode 25 (which was ironically supposed to be her Power Up episode). She spends most of her time training off-screen while Sebastian and Mamo takes up the majority of the plot.
  • Ojou: She is one of the two richest Pretty Cure ojous in the franchise. The other one is Karen.
  • Meaningful Name: See Alice Allusion above. Her last name means "Clover", the plant shaped similar to the suit of Clubs. Cure Rosetta's name is Italian for "Rose", possibly referring to the plant known as the rose clover. note
  • The Power of the Sun: According to her In the Name of the Moon speech, she represents the warmth of the sun.
  • Princesses Prefer Pink: She's an heiress, not a princess, but she does possess a pink car and helicopter.
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: Usually dresses like this in her normal form.
  • Random Effect Spell: Rosetta Balloon can summon random things when it pops.
  • Refusal of the Call: In episode 4, she initially refuses to become a Cure out of fear of losing herself to rage.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: Averted, but she won't hesitate to use her massive wealth to help in Precure related activities.
  • Shield Bash: Rosetta Wall is rarely used as this and not powerful. The broken halves of Rosetta Reflection are a lot stronger.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Fandom is currently juggling between spelling her name as "Arisu", the romanized spelling of its hiragana, or "Alice", the English variant which would normally be spelled in katakana instead, but stranger things have been known to happen.
  • Surveillance as the Plot Demands: She has an intelligence network so effective that it can detect monsters before the fairies do, and was able to effortlessly figure out the identities of Cure Heart and Cure Sword (for the latter she had video, fingerprint and DNA evidence!). She even has access to a spy satellite.
  • Tareme Eyes: Her big, round eyes reflect her gentle and kind nature.
  • These Hands Have Killed: Does this after hurting the bullies, giving her the reason to give up fighting.
  • Throwing Your Shield Always Works: She can throw her barriers to attack.
    • In Episode 30, Heart, Diamond and Sword enhance Rosetta Reflection and it becomes Lovely Force Reflection. It's so strong it breaks through Melan's barrier.
    • In Episode 33, she throws her broken Rosetta Reflection like Emerauld Saucers.
  • Wise Beyond Her Years: At times. Most teens don’t really know about accounting…
  • The Worf Effect:
    • Her Rosetta Reflection gets broken more often since episode 15. However, it zigzags between being useful or getting broken.
    • Subverted in Episode 33, when it gets broken again, Cure Rosetta uses the two halves as useful weapons.

    Makoto "MakoPi" Kenzaki (Cure Sword)

"The blade of courage, Cure Sword!"

The former protector of the Trump Kingdom. Makoto masquerades as a popular idol/model with the stage name of "MakoPi" on Earth so she can look for the missing Princess Marie-Ange. Blaming herself for the fall of the Trump Kingdom, she has become cold and withdrawn. However after joining the team, she is finally brought out of her shell. She's the most offensive member of the quartet.

  • Afraid of Doctors: Especially when it comes to a dentist's drill. Episode 35 centers around this.
  • Aloof Ally: She was quite cold prior to joining the team.
  • Ambiguously Gay: More cool and mature than "cute" proper, Makoto is the least overtly feminine of the Cures outside her Idol Career, with a tomboyish dress-sense, short and butch page-boy haircut and attitude to match. Most tellingly, however, is her blatantly jealous anger at Jonathan Klondike for being her "beloved" Princess Marie-Ange's male fiancé.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: It's basically the only thing she can do. After gaining the Magical Lovely Pads, all Cures get new individual attack. While Ace, Rosetta, Diamond and Heart get attacks that trap the enemy, Sword's attack is the only offensive one.
  • Bad Liar: In Episode 42, when she and DB buy ingredients for Aguri's birthday cake and Aguri speaks to them, Makoto replies "I'm not Makoto Kenzaki" and goes away. The terrible parts: Aguri knows Makoto's Clark Kenting costume, she doesn't address Makoto by her name in this scene, and DB is there.
  • Barehanded Blade Block:
    • In Episode 35; actually a Barehanded Drill Block!
    • In Episode 40, she catches the powerful Miracle Dragon Glaive with one hand. However, she doesn't catch the blade, but the stick.
  • Blow You Away: Her third attack Sword Hurricane.
  • Boyish Short Hair: With the side-locks, it only reaches her collarbone, though she’s not that boyish.
  • Break the Cutie: Seeing her homeworld destroyed and the princess, who she's supposed to protect, sacrificing herself to save Sword is really hard for her.
  • Broken Bird: She witnessed the destruction of her home world and the sacrifice of the princess she was supposed to protect, leaving her guilt-ridden and traumatized.
  • Celebrity Paradox: Her voice actress, Kanako Miyamoto, previously appeared in Yes! Pretty Cure 5 As Herself as a one-off character.
  • Clark Kenting: Because she's an Idol Singer, she wears Purely Aesthetic Glasses and a hat to cover herself in public and outside of school.
  • The Comically Serious: Starts moving in to this as she becomes closer to the rest of the team.
  • Conveniently an Orphan: Episode 42 reveals her parents died when she was a baby. She doesn't seem to be bothered about it.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Her eyes and hair are both purple (albeit in different shades and/or tints).
  • Cuteness Proximity: Enters this whenever Ai-chan is involved. She tries to hold it back, but fails everytime.
  • Diagonal Cut: Her signature move is doing this by her own hands.
  • Dude Magnet: She has even a fanclub full of apparently adult men.
  • Dub Name Change: In the dub, her name is Mackenzie Mack and her Cure name was changed to Glitter Spade.
  • Excuse Me While I Multitask: Singing while walking, transforming and catching a powerful magical weapon seems to be easy.
  • Failure Knight: Specifically, having failed to protect the Trump Kingdom.
  • Her Heart Will Go On: In her final moment, Marie-Ange tells Makopi to keep singing, even in the world where she no longer exists. Makopi takes those final final words seriously.
  • His Name Really Is "Barkeep": The name "Makoto Kenzaki" is just her alias, and it seems like "Cure Sword" is in fact her real name.
  • Human Alien: For a given definition of "alien". She's not from Earth, at any rate.
  • Idol Singer: Her in-universe fandom suffers from this. While most of the Victims Of The Week are not associated with the Precures, most of those who are somehow associated with them are either fans or rivals or co-workers or reporters or at worst just arriving the location she works.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: After failing to protect the Trump Kingdom from destruction, Makoto encases herself in a near-constant shell of bitter coldness to stop becoming attached to and/or hurt others ever again.
  • Lady of War: The most dignified and mature of the quartet in battle.
  • The Lancer: Sword has defeated the largest number of Jikochuu after Cure Heart (not difficult, considering that Cure Diamond and Cure Rosetta barely attack) and most of her attacks weaken/damage the enemies. Additionally, Makoto's more serious and light cold personality contrasts Mana's Genki Girl attitude well.
  • Loony Friends Improve Your Personality: Goes both ways with Mana, really. She learns that having an enthusiastic friend is better than not having an enthusiastic friend. Mana learns that some people can be hurt by her enthusiasm, such as the time she's trying to befriend Regina in front of Makopi.
  • Meaningful Name: The "Ken" in her surname means "sword", which is also the suit in playing cards that was the precursor to spades. She isn't, however, the first Kenzaki to be a warrior represented by spades.
  • Modesty Shorts: Like with Diamond and Rosetta, you can just barely see them in the ending.
  • My Greatest Failure: The series opens with her failing to protect the Trump Kingdom from an invasion by the Jikochuss.
  • Non-Indicative Name: At no point does she actually use a sword. Her forte is vaguely spade-shaped projectile Spam Attacks.
  • No Social Skills: Even though a superstar amongst kids her age, Makoto lacks the most basic skills required for a girl to fit into modern Japanese society, such as cooking, making friends, calligraphy or even sweeping the floor properly. This could be attributed to the fact she spent most of her life as a professional-warrior who never had time to learn housework or non-combat skills. In fact in Episode 10 Makoto says the Trump Kingdom had automatic cleaning robots. But even then...
  • Not So Above It All: When faced with Cuteness Overload, even she cannot keep her ice-cold shell from cracking and revealing the bubbly teenage girl beneath.
  • Not So Stoic: Since she joins the other Pretty Cures, she drops her stoic behaviour for most of the time.
  • One-Woman Army: Takes on an entire ARMY of Jikochuus in episode 48.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Played straight in her Transformation Sequence and in the Lovely Force Arrow sequence. This looks kinda odd, because she winks without smiling.
  • Pride: Her vice, as exhibited in episode 16 when she abandons Mana for trying to befriend Regina, who she considers responsible at least in part for destroying her homeland. Clearly, she's too proud to accept that there can be any shade of gray in the morality scale.
  • Purple Is Powerful: If anything, she's a magical girl veterannote .
  • Razor-Sharp Hand: How she fires her Holy Sword. However, she can actually use her Razor-Sharp Hand normally.
  • Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training:
    • In episode 6 she is comically inept at cooking - because as a warrior she never really had to cook before. She picks up quickly.
    • Episode 10 has her get into comical mishaps at Mana's school. Although the reason she didn't know how to clean was because she had automatic robots doing it for her in the Trump Kingdom.
  • Say My Name: Episode 45, when things have seriously goes out of anyone's hands, it's interesting that she only calls Mana alone.
    "MANAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"
  • Stage Names: MakoPi, which doubles as her In-Series Nickname. Point in fact it's used more often than her formal name "Makoto" in the show itself.
  • They Call Him "Sword": Not only that. A flashback from Episode 42 reveals that she was Sword (perhaps just Sword, with the Cure title being given to her later on much like the "Sir" title among knights) as a kid, implying that she's born in her Cure form.
  • Wake Up, Go to School & Save the World: Makopi is a student, an idol, a model, an actress, a Magical Girl Warrior, and a refugee from magical world searching for her lost queen. And she is a minor. The burden she carries is immense, and it shows: sometimes she falls asleep in class.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Gives a massive one —for kids show, at any rate— to Mana. Because Mana is trying to befriend Regina, who shares the blame for destroying Makopi's country.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: In Episode 35, she's afraid of dentists. It's her first time, though. But the caries Jikochuu who has a drill scares her so much that she refuses to transform, at first.
  • The Worf Effect: She suffers from this since she has joined the team, all credits for finishing the Monsters of the Week goes to Cure Heart or Cure Ace when they don't use group finishing moves. Especially when they got their first Mid Season Upgrades, she got the worst attack, since the only purpose of Sparkle Sword is simply attacking while the others' attacks defend, freeze and finish, respectively. Sparkle Sword has finished only one Monster of the Week, yet, but thirteen episodes after it was introduced. Depending on situation, her attacks are the least useful ones, but not useless.

    Aguri Madoka (Cure Ace)

Click here to see her as a civilian

The mysterious fifth Cure. Aguri is in fourth grade, but ages whenever she transforms. As Cure Ace, she is much stronger than the other Cures. However, she can only remain transformed for 5 minutes at a time.

It's later revealed that she's the light/dutiful half of Princess Marie-Ange, with the dark/selfish half being Regina.

  • Aloof Ally: Though it turns out part of the reason she comes and goes so often is to stop the villains from realizing that her powers have a time limit.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: The youngest Cure in the entire franchise in civilian form at just 9 years old (until Elle broke that record). She ages when she transforms into Cure Ace.
  • Because Destiny Says So: She gains this mentality from learning the connection between her and Regina. As a result, she is determined to settle the score between them, but she keeps Mana in the dark about it due to the two tropes. She even outright tells her the former as her justification for attempting to kill Regina while she's down.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Saves the other Cures from Regina's Sphere of Destruction.
  • The Big Girl: As Cure Ace. She is the strongest of the five, but is neither The Heroine nor The Lancer.
  • Brutal Honesty: Abuses this trope to no end when she first appears, just for the sake of making the Cures stronger.
    • Episode 23: She tells Mana in her face that Regina nearly killing them all was her own fault and to move pass it, completely ignoring that Mana was shocked to have someone she had just befriended being taken away by the villains.
    • Episode 24: She tells Makoto that her performance in the opening was lacking, which causes her to consider retiring from the idol business. It's worse in the English dub, where she flat out tells her to give up singing.
    • episode 25: She calls Alice weak when her Rosetta Reflection broke mid-battle, and told her to comeback stronger just so she wouldn't disappoint her anymore.
    • She isn't as bad with Rikka in Episode 26, where she just told her to really think over what she wants to do when she grows up.
  • Came from the Sky: As a baby. The other characters even make allusions to Kaguya-hime..
  • Character Catchphrase: "Bravo" when she eats sweets, and "adieu" when she disappears. It becomes heartbreaking when she says Adieu to Eru in episode 45.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Her attack Ace Shot changes depending on the color of lipstick used.
  • Cool Big Sis: As Cure Ace. Not so much as Aguri; after all it's difficult to have the 'big sis' vibe if you Comical Overreacting over a cake and scolding your fellow Cure with cream on your face, more so when you're younger than the one you scold.
  • Cultured Badass: As Aguri, she is quite knowledgeable about tea ceremonies - mostly because her grandmother is a tea ceremony teacher.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: To the powered-up Regina and to Jikochuus. Justified, she has a limit of 5 minutes before she de-transforms.
  • Curtains Match the Window: As Cure Ace, her hair and eyes are both red.
  • Deus ex Machina:
    • How she was introduced. She comes out of nowhere, without any hints about her existence or her identity.
    • The way she appears in the Non-Serial Movie is this. Justified, as her true nature made her unfit for a movie that revolves around past memories.
  • Does Not Like Spam: She hates carrots, but she eventually overcomes this in Episode 37.
  • Dreaming of Times Gone By: She dreams about Marie-Ange fighting King Jikochuu in Episode 42.
  • Dub Name Change: In the dub, her name is Natalie Miller and her Cure name was changed to Glitter Ace.
  • Finger Poke of Doom: Does this to a Jikochuu in episode 23. Without actually touching it! This proves to be Foreshadowing for the big reveal about her, Regina, and Marie-Ange.
  • Flaming Hair: Her hair is literally made of fire during her transformation. However, she doesn't exactly have a hot temper.
  • Freudian Trio: Has this relationship with Mana (The Kirk) and Regina (The McCoy). Semi-literal, since Aguri and Regina were originally part of the same person.
  • The Gadfly: It's suggested in episode 27 that she purposely put the other Cures through a tea ceremony just to see how they'd react.
  • Gratuitous French: "Adieu", and (combined with Gratuitous English) "Love Kiss Rouge".
  • Hand Wave: During the Non-Serial Movie she suddenly appears in Makoto's Lotus-Eater Machine. When asked how she got there, she literally claims Love Transcends Spacetime.
  • Happily Adopted: Her grandmother is not actually related to her; she's a foster child.
  • Heroic BSoD: In episode 43, upon learning that everything she thought she knew about herself was wrong.
  • Hour of Power: She can only remain in her Precure form for five minutes at a time. However, after obtaining the Eternal Golden Crown, time is no longer a problem.
  • Humanizing Tears: Like any Rie Kugimiya Type-A Tsundere (albeit a mild one), she breaks down crying before the other Cures at the first half of Episode 43 while in the middle of a Heroic BSoD upon realizing that everything she knew about herself may have been a lie all along.
  • Identity Amnesia: Episode 43 indicates that Aguri is suffering from this. In episode 45, the Eternal Golden Crown reveals to Aguri her true identity.
  • Identical Stranger: Cure Ace looks a lot like Marie-Ange. In episode 35, Makoto explicitly states that Aguri reminds her of Ange, and Aguri says that she finds Ange familiar despite the fact that they supposedly had never met before the episode. Mana also mistook Aguri for Regina when she saw her from behind. Episode 45 and 46 reveal that Aguri and Regina are both Ange's Literal Split Personalities.
  • Lightning Bruiser: She's stronger than the other Cures and is much faster than them.
  • Literal Split Personality: Both Aguri and Regina are this to Marie-Ange.
  • Makeup Weapon: Cure Ace's weapon is the Love Kiss Rouge, a tube of lipstick that has different effects depending on which of the five colors is used.
  • The Mentor: Both as Aguri and Cure Ace. As it turns out, she was fighting the Selfish long before the other Earth-born Cures got their powers. Except that this was untrue.
  • Modesty Shorts: A quick glance during the climax of Non-Serial Movie shows that Ace does wear them.
  • Older Alter Ego: Her transformation sequence ages her body.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: She quietly goes to Trump Kingdom Earth in episode 45 to confront Regina with Jonathan and Cure Sword, leaving Mana in the dark.
  • Petal Power: Rose petals. They are multifunctional, just as for teleporting, attacking, defending etc.
  • Playing with Fire: Her transformation sequence sets her on fire.
  • Plot-Relevant Age-Up
    • In Episode 43, it's revealed that Aguri landed on earth as a baby and was found by her grandmother Mari. They were immediately attacked by a Jikochuu, but they were protected by a light which purified the Jikochuu and the infant suddenly grew into a nine-year old child.
    • Inverted, since she's the light half of Ange and thus the Aguri we see is really Ange's Younger Alter Ego after she experienced Plot Relevant Age Down.
  • The Power of Love: Cure Ace can get stronger by love. While the other Pretty Cure can get stronger by their own love, Ace becomes stronger by the love of other people, too.
  • Power-Up Food: In Episode 37, she gets a Power-Up after eating a carrot which is full of the Aki Kadono's love, the carrot farmer.
  • Raised by Grandparents: She is raised by her grandmother. It's later revealed that Aguri is a foster child and isn't biologically related to her grandmother.
  • Red Is Heroic: She's decked out predominantly in red and she's one of the Cures fighting the Selfish Kingdom.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The jewel on her chest starts to pulse red when her transformation is about to time out, just like Ultraman.
    • Her origin and her relationship with her grandmother Mari is extremely similar to Son Goku and his grandfather Son Gohan. Both of them landed on earth as babies and were found by their respective grandparents who (have) raised them.
  • The Spock: Tends to be more pragmatic and conscious of rules than the other Cures, and less willing to show forgiveness to their enemies. It comes from being a physical embodiment of Princess Marie-Ange's sense of duty towards her people.
  • Story-Breaker Power: Time limit aside, her existence resulted in the last-minute additions of Leva and Gula as quick power ups for the villains so they balance out the battlefield. She was just that powerful in her first appearance.
  • Stranger Behind the Mask:
    • Meta-example. Since Futari wa Pretty Cure Splash★Star, every Sixth Ranger in the franchise has been a character that appeared before. But after Cure Ace first appears, she is soon revealed to be an entirely new character.
    • Zig-Zagged when it turns out Aguri was actually a part of Marie-Ange the whole time.
  • Sweet Tooth: She has a fondness for sweet foods.
  • Tagalong Kid:
    • Subverted. Aguri is a fourth-grader, but as Cure Ace, she's physically older than the others. But when her time limit is over and she transforms back, Aguri is definitely this and helpless.
    • Because of her time limit, she doesn't transform immediately when the enemies appear and she has to wait until the time comes when the girls need her help.
  • Tsundere: As expected from Rie Kugimiya; however, Aguri is a downplayed version of Rie's usual type A, especially compared to some other examples.
  • Two First Names: "Madoka" is usually a given name, not a surname.
  • Tiny Tyrannical Girl: Aguri has a bit of this. She spends much of her first appearances sternly lecturing the other Cures for not being strong enough. Ep. 32 sees her intimidating and lecturing many middle school students for relying too much on Mana.
  • Unreliable Expositor: Quite a few things she initially says about herself prove to be less-than correct. This is due to her Identity Amnesia.
  • Wistful Amnesia: She seems to have this reaction when entering the Trump Kingdom. See Literal Split Personality.
  • The Worf Effect: Subverted. She is the strongest of the Cures and had no problems with the Monsters of the Week when she was an Aloof Ally. But, when the villains summon new, stronger types of them, even Ace gets trouble, making this being an actually justified trope. However, her Finishing Move is still strong enough to purify both types, the combined and Blood Ring Jikochuus.

Mana's fairy, a plucky bunny with a burning heart. Later, she can transform into a teenage girl around Mana's age.

  • Curtains Match the Window: In human form, she has hot pink hair and eyes.
  • Dub Name Change: To "Kippie" in the English dub.
  • Hyper-Competent Sidekick: She is as competent as Mana. In her human form, Sharuru is very enthusiastic when it comes to helping Mana out and she is shown to work quickly and efficiently.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Like with "Arisu", there was a lot of trouble finding a good translation for her name (Sharuru? Cheryl? Charle?).
  • Meaningful Name: Her name is a corruption of "Charles", the card corresponding to the King of Hearts in old Parisian playing-card decks. It also means “strong”.
  • Nice Girl: Guess who is the biggest Nice Girl in this series? Like Pretty Cure, like partner, indeed.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Like other fairies in the Pretty Cure series, she's an adorable ally to her Cure.
  • Verbal Tic: Ends sentences with "~sharu".
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Davi in Episode 36, when they argue that love between humans and mascots aren't allowed. After Rachel's heart got broken, both of them feel sorry for him, and they hug each other while crying.

Rikka's fairy, level-headed and reliable. Later, he can transform into a human boy that's around 10 years old.

  • Adorably Precocious Child: For a newborn mascot, Raquel is very reliable, siding with his Cure even under pressure.
  • Badass Adorable: In Episode 36, despite being in his Commune form, he defeats a freaking Blood Ring Jikochuu. Well, then the Pretty Cures purify it.
  • Bishie Sparkle: Not him, but he sees every girl he loves sparkling.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Like Charle, but he's less succesful than her. In Episode 36, when Yashima says that he's her hero, he tries hard to be a hero. The Jikochuu learns this the hard way.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Downplayed. He's jealous of Ira who is taken care of by Rikka in Episode 26.
  • Curtains Match the Window: In human form, both his eyes and hair are blue.
  • Determinator: He will often go out of his way to achieve a goal and tries his hardest to be a good fairy to Rikka.
  • Dub Name Change: The dub changes his name to Rory.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Despite the mascara-like thingy near his eyes and bow, he is actually a guy. However, he still has a feminine name “Rachel“.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Some fan translations render his name as the more masculine "Raquel".
  • Meaningful Name: He's named after the card corresponding to the Queen of Diamonds in old Parisian playing-card decks.
  • Older Than They Look: Lampshaded by himself. According to him, he's the oldest of the three, but he looks younger than Charle in their human forms. Which makes no sense, since they were born at the same time.
  • The Power of Love: In Episode 36, his crush on Yashima gives him enough strength to defeat a Blood Ring Jikochuu while being in his Commune form.
  • Precious Puppy: He is a cute, fluffy mascot taking the form of a dog.
  • Precocious Crush:
    • He's suggested to have one for Rikka.
    • In Episode 36, he has a crush on Rikka's classmate Yashima, but after she introduces him her boyfriend, his heart gets broken. Shortly after that, he develops his true crush on Rikka again.
Rachel: "Rikka will always be my number one!"
  • Use Your Head: Justified, in his Commune form, he can only use his head, but he defeats a Blood Ring Jikochuu with The Power of Love. However, he actually hits with his right cheek and it hurts afterward.
  • Verbal Tic: Ends sentences with "~quel/~keru".

Alice's fairy, the youngest of the four and a little bit spoiled. Later, he can transform into young human boy.

  • Butt-Monkey: Lance is the go to mascot of comical abuse. His ears are chewed by Ai-chan in several episodes and falls face down to goldfish scooping stand. He's literally Ai-chan's Chew Toy.
  • Curtains Match the Window: In human form, he has curly orange hair which matches with his eyes.
  • Flight: Somehow possesses the rare ability to fly.
  • Meaningful Name: Lance is short for Lancelot, the card corresponding to the Knight of Clubs in old Parisian playing-card decks.
  • Third-Person Person: He has used "boku" only once.
  • Verbal Tic: Ends sentences with "~de lance" or just "~lance"
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Gains the ability to transform into human in Episode 29. Also he can transform in a boot, and it is unknown if he can take more forms.

Makoto's fairy, who is constantly concerned about her. She can transform into a human and acts as Makoto's manager DB.

  • Big Sister Instinct: Tends to treat Makoto like a concerned older sibling and appears to only lose her calm personality if it involves Makoto.
  • Cats Are Superior: By far the most competent and mature of the fairies. Justified due to being older than the others.
  • Curtains Match the Window: As DB, her hair and eyes have the same shades of purple.
  • Cute Kitten: Her true form is a small purple kitten.
  • The Gadfly: She seems to have fun teasing Makopi, though it's usually for her own sake.
  • Hyper-Competent Sidekick: To Makoto. Davi has more common sense than her. She's also the only one of the four mascots who knows some history of the Trump Kingdom since the others were send to earth, shortly after their birth. And she can drive a car.
  • Inconsistent Spelling: Her name could also be "Dabyi" or "Dabi", and possibly is that version since the letters "DB" are seen on a letter she left for Mana.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name is a corruption of "David", the card corresponding to the King of Spades in old Parisian playing-card decks.
  • Sarcastic Devotee: She supports Makoto, but she really thinks she should be more honest with herself.
  • Team Mom: For the other three mascots.
  • Token Adult: The only mascot who can transform into an adult while the other three transform into two children and a teenager.
  • Verbal Tic: Ends sentences with "~bi". When the four are in human form in Episode 29, she's the only one to drop this.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: She can transform into a human and assumes the position of Makoto's manager, and adult guardian.

A humanoid baby fairy that hatched from an egg the girls find in Joe Okada's shop. Mana essentially becomes her babysitter. At the moment, she provides Magic Enhancement and Mid Season Upgrades to the protagonists, as well as providing Cure Ace's transformation magic. It's suggested that she has an importance beyond this. Eventually it's revealed that she is the remains of Princess Marie-Ange's physical body, transformed into a fairy after her psyche was split between Regina and Cure Ace.

  • Blush Sticker: Not only those are perpetual, they’re shaped as hearts.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Ai~" and "Kyupirappa~".
  • Cool Shades: In Episode 38, she wears a pair of shades when turned into a Jikochuu.
  • Dub Name Change: The dub changes her name to Dina.
  • Flight: She has small wings, and can fly with them.
  • Literal Split Personality: She's actually the physical body of Marie-Ange, transformed into a baby-like state after her psyche was split.
  • Magic Enhancement:
    • She can enhance the power of the Precures.
    • Later on, her cry is able to enhance the villains. This turns out to be a subversion and inversion; Ai was actually weakening the villains the whole time. When she cries, it causes the bad guys to return to their normal power.
  • Pokémon Speak: In Glitter Force Doki Doki, Dina is prone to repeating her own name as her only way of speaking.
  • Red Herring: The fans had theories that she's the princess or Cure Ace or both. It turns out that she's not the princess and she's Cure Ace partner. Subverted when she did turn out to be the princess... the princess's body, that is.
  • Someone to Remember Him By: She becomes one for Jonathan and Makoto, when Marie-Ange's spirit makes it clear that she is not coming back to life.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: No one seems to find anything unusual about a winged baby with such unusual eyes and hearts embedded into her cheeks, not even Mana's mom after Ai uses magic to pose as her daughter.

    Princess Marie-Ange

Voiced by: Yuka Imai (JP), Kate Higgins (EN) Foreign VAs

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/princess_marie_ange.png

The beloved princess of the Trump Kingdom. When the forces of Jikochuus invaded her kingdom she fought on the front lines against them, and although she was able to petrify King Jikochuu she was driven back by their superior numbers. She was separated from Cure Sword when they fled through a dimensional portal to Earth, and her current whereabouts were unknown until the Precures find her in a glacier. She's currently sealed in magical ice...or not.

  • The Archmage: Show some shades of this, despite being a Magic Knight proper. She...
    • Seals King Jikochuu using Miracle Dragon Glaive without anyone else's help...
    • Creates Charle, Raquel, and Lance basically on the fly and while being tactically cornered...
    • As Ai-chan, creates more powerful Loveads whenever the Selfish Agents come up with new tactics.
  • Barely-Changed Dub Name: She goes from Marie Ange to Marie Angelica in the dub.
  • Battle Ballgown: Dons one of these in the battle with Jikochuus in episode 7's flashback.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Her lance is later revealed to be the Miracle Dragon Glaive, a weapon used by one of the legendary Precures from 10,000 years ago.
  • Chekhov M.I.A.: After the kingdom is lost, her whereabouts is unknown. A significant number of the episodes are spent looking for her. But she is — or at least the better part of her — there all along, as Aguri.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: After her father became King Jikochu, she is torn between her love for him and her duty to her people. In the end she decides to split her soul into Regina and Cure Ace, each embodying one of her two desires.
  • Creating Life: She created Charle, Rachel, and Lance.
  • Cultured Badass: She has a good upbringing as a princess. Furthermore, she's also aware of Earth, and is rather knowledgable of its cultures.
  • Defiant to the End: Before she can transform into a Jikochu, she pulls her own heart out and breaks it in two, effectively dying in the process but transforming the uncorrupted part of her heart into Cure Ace and her body into Ai-chan. All of this is to assist the future Precures and prevent the Jikochuu from gaining all of her power.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: As she is turning into a Jikochuu.
  • Exact Words: When contacting the Cures through Ai's mirror, she says she's borrowing Ai's power. Ai-chan is actually Ange's body, and the Ange speaking to the Cures was an illusion Ange created.
  • Frontline General: Whenever we see her in someone's flashback, she's almost always fighting the Jikochuu invaders.
  • The High Queen: Her role in the story, even though she's technically just a princess.
  • Human Popsicle: She is found frozen in ice in episode 20. Subverted in episode 45 when it's revealed it was just an illusion all along.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness: She rivals Saber in her dedication to her country. Subverted. She is selfish enough to consider staying with her father after he turned into King Jikochuu. Bel is savvy enough to see this and make an attempt to exploit it.
  • In-Series Nickname: She prefers to be called "Anne".
  • I Will Only Slow You Down: How she is separated from Cure Sword. However, this is not the entire truth— she tells Sword to go ahead because she wants to try to save his father again, fueled in no small amount due to her wish to be by his side.
  • Killed Off for Real: Marie-Ange dies when she removes her Psyche and splits it in two — Aguri and Regina — while her body becomes Ai-Chan. Her spirit even says these tropes herself by the end of the series, though the spirit then goes into Ai-chan after saying goodbye to Cure Sword.
  • Klingons Love Shakespeare: She plays karuta.
  • Lady of War: Began practicing swordplay from a young age, insisting that it was no less elegant or ladylike than her other hobbies. By the time the series begins, she's one of the most skilled fighters in the kingdom.
  • Laser Blade: The tip of her lance is made of magical light.
  • Literal Split Personality: The Princess' light side became Aguri, while the dark side became Regina. Each of them have faint memories about being Ange. These are her 'heart', while her body became Ai-chan.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Subverted. Her love for her father was capable of corrupting her into a Jikochuu. It corrupted half her heart before she broke it.
  • Magic Knight: A ridiculously powerful one. Even her Literal Split Personality Regina is more than a match for the Cures, and it takes another one of her split personality, Cure Ace, to balance the fights.
  • Princesses Rule: Appears to be the sole ruler of the Trump Kingdom; nevertheless, she's referred to as a princess and not a queen. Episode 46 reveals her father the King was there all along; he just wasn't shown until then.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: One of the few royals to actually fight and defend their kingdom who isn't a Cure themselves.
  • Sealed Good in a Can: Her apparent body is found encased in magical ice. No one seems to be able to get her out of it, until Aguri does so in episode 45... which reveals that she was never actually in the magical ice at all.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: When Bel tries to turn her into a Jikochuu through mind games, she simply rips out the corrupted part of her heart, stating that she will keep on fighting one way or another.
  • Significant Double Casting: The reason why she's not credited is because she and her reincarnated body Ai are voiced by the same person. If her voice actress was given right away, fans would pick things up and it would ruin the twist. Not that it was obvious just by their appearances alone.
  • Thanatos Gambit: Even when she's seemingly gone, her plan keeps King Jikochuu from invading Earth. It's less Thanatos Gambit and more like Thanatos Russian Roulette. When she realizes that she's also corrupted by selfishness, she breaks her own heart into the selfish part and the selfless part. She entrusts her selfless heart to fix things. The roulette pays off handsomely when both hearts of her turns out to be good people despite their flaws.
  • Tomboy Princess: According to Jonathan, she's good at some hobbies typically enjoyed by men, such as horseback archery and sculpting. She's also a capable fighter and plays karuta.
  • Warrior Princess: Fully capable of leading the charge into battle and kicking plenty of ass on her own.

A mysterious souvenir salesman who gives the girls the "Cure Lovies" they need to become Pretty Cures. His true identity is a knight of the Trump Kingdom, and the fiancé of Princess Marie-Ange.

  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • He rushed to defend Princess Ange when King Jikochu invaded, but he's too late.
    • In episode 45, he rescues Cure Heart out of Regina's magical trap.
  • Bodyguard Crush: He was one of the knights who protected the Princess. Then, they became fiancees.
  • The Bus Came Back: He finally returns at the near end of episode 44 to free Cure Heart. And he is back with the Eternal Golden Crown.
  • Can't Catch Up: The Cures keep getting upgrades, while he doesn't. This result in fairly skewed ratio of usefulness when he's fighting alongside of the Cures. Cure Sword has to carry him in episode 45.
  • Card Sharp: He knows his way with tricks. When things get really serious in episode 45, he throws an Ace of Spades to Cure Sword, which she catches.
  • Did Not Get the Girl: Despite everyone's best effort, Marie-Ange is really gone. But at least she left Ai-chan to Jonathan for him to remember the love.
  • Dub Name Change: He's called Jonathan "Johnny" Klondike in the dub.
  • Enigmatic Empowering Entity: He gets called out on it in Episode 18. We also learn he's not as knowledgeable as he seems - even he doesn't know who Ai-chan is or where she came from.
  • The Load: First in Episode 20, where he shows that he's not able to climb a mountain so easily like the Precures, despite being a knight, and he doesn't do anything useful. Then Episode 46 onwards, there he's so useless that Cure Sword has to help him and carries him on her back despite being smaller and lighter than him (not to mention that he's heavier with his armor). During the Grand Finale, he doesn't do anything, not even helping the evacuation of citizens, at least not on-screen.
  • Punny Name:
    • His full name, when spelled in all Katakana, forms the word "Joker". Which is awkward considering that the previous season had a villain named Joker. It's apparently so punny that Rikka finds it hard to believe it's real. It isn't.
    • His real name is a reference to the card game
  • My Greatest Failure: "Cure Sword wasn't the only one who couldn't save anyone."
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Obviously isn't a normal shop-owner, but whenever the girls try to press him for information he always changes the subject or has to leave suddenly.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: His time spent hiding ice-encased Ange from the Jikochuus, as well as his finding Eternal Golden Crown in the desert.
  • The Only Way They Will Learn: More or less the reason why initially he only helped the Pretty Cure indirectly.
  • Put on a Bus: In episode 23, he goes to an undisclosed location to keep Marie-Ange safe.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Becomes the president of Republic of Trump in the ending.
  • Say My Name: He seems to say his fiancee's name a lot, typically with anguish.
  • Significant Monogram: "JK", or "Jack", fitting the playing card motif.
  • Sixth Ranger:
    • After his identity is revealed he fights alongside the Cures until his bus trip.
    • When The Bus Came Back he also returns to his Sixth Ranger status, and accompanies Cure Ace and Cure Sword to confront Regina.
  • Walking Spoiler: His true nature and role has a lot of spoilers.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The Cures call him out for missing out on the things happening like Ai-chan joining the Selfish briefly and when Bel impersonated him.

    Sebastian

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sebastian_dokidoki.png

Alice's loyal butler, who contributes much to keeping the Precures a secret from normal society.

  • Badass Normal: Although he possesses no supernatural powers whatsoever, Sebastian has invaluable skills and connections to the real world that allows him to accomplish tasks that the Cures and Joe simply cannot with their magic. He has defeated several servants with his martial arts skills in a second.
  • Baritone of Strength: As an old retainer, he has pretty deep voice. While he doesn't have any super powers, he is shown to be a strong martial artist.
  • Battle Butler: He even knows martial arts.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: In Episode 25 it's revealed that he's reverse-engineered the Cure Communes and created one for himself, allowing him to transform into "Cure Sebastian" (who looks suspiciously like Batman). Until it's destroyed at the end of the episode. Subverted, because he never has a chance to use it.
  • Fantastically Indifferent: In episode 21, the Royal Crystals suddenly start glowing. Everyone in the room is seen having a reaction except for Sebastian.
  • Hyper-Competent Sidekick: Sebastian possesses connections to the adult world such as surveillance, law-enforcement, media and forensics that make our heroines' lives that much easier. He even can use an orbital satellite to track down the Royal Crystals. When they disappear, he manages to use the Yotsuba family's personal helicopter to get them to where they were last sighted.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: In Episode 25 he fights Mamo while wearing knight armor and a shield. Thanks to this, he ends up uninjured.
  • Old Retainer: He serves the Yotsuba family for many years, raises Alice, he's one of her most important people, and he's highly respected by the family and the other servants.
  • Parental Substitute: Ever by Alice's side, he is a second-father and best friend to her.
  • Satellite Character: Being a butler, his life of course orbits around the well being of his mistress Alice.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: Screwing even narrative rules, for the span of episode 25 Sebastian manages to become a Precure by building his own Cure Commune. Perhaps as lampshading, his Precure form looks like Batman.
  • Stock Character: He is but one of many Sebastians in 21st Century Anime who is a Cool Battle Butler to a refined young lady.

An old mascot who looks like a turtle, but she can transform into a dragon. She protects the the Legendary Mirror and tests the Pretty Cures. She was also the partner of Cure Empress, one of the three legendary Precures.

  • Barrier Warrior: It's so strong, it can block Lovely Force Arrow and Ace Shot.
  • Fangs Are Evil: Averted. Her fangs are seen just before her transformation, but they are shown only once. And she's not evil.
  • Flight: She has flight abilities in her turtle form like the other mascots, but she grows large wings in her dragon form and flies properly with them.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: Subverted. The girls still gain the Legendary Mirror.
  • Non-Human Sidekick: Was once the partner of Cure Empress.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: She can transform into a dragon and fights in this form.
  • Really 700 Years Old: 10,000 years on the island, trying to protect the Legendary Mirror. She even outlived her own Pretty Cure partner, Cure Empress.
  • Retired Badass: Despite being so strong, she decides to leave the fate of the world to the young generation of Pretty Cures.
  • Prehensile Tail: Cure Diamond freezes her wings from behind. Not only that doesn't work, Melan attacks Diamond from behind with her tail, too.
  • Threshold Guardians: To the Pretty Cures, as she protects Legendary Crystal Mirror.
  • Undying Loyalty: Even after 10,000 years, she still protects the Legendary Crystal Mirror/Magical Lovely Pad, the Regalia of her partner Cure Empress.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: From a little turtle to a huge dragon.

Friends

    Takuya Nikaidou

Voiced by: Takuya Sato

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/takuya_nikaido.png

One of Mana's classmates.

  • Ambiguously Brown: He has darker skin compared to the rest of his friends.
  • Childhood Friends: Mana's, according to the movie.
  • First-Name Basis: Calls Mana with "Mana" in Episode 3 (during Rikka's flashback), 48, and 49. This is significant because he's the first non-Cures non-relatives to do so, and most of the time he always avoids to refer her beyond using "you".
  • Hidden Depths: Seemed like a typical delinquent at first. Later, he showed a great leadership and problem-solving skills. Not to mention he really cares of Mana.
  • I Will Wait for You: He chooses to stay in the ruined Oogai Town and watches the Cures fighting Proto Jikochuu during the final battle.
  • Japanese Delinquents: Wears his uniform improperly? Check. Likes to pick up fights with other boys, even those who are from another school? Check. Called "Bro"note  by his loyal best friend? Check.
  • Jerkass: He flat out insults Mana in Episode 2. In the movie, he almost crosses the line by saying that nobody would marry Mana. Of course, this is just an act.
  • Luminescent Blush: In the movie, he did it three times in succession. Once after Rikka managed to blow up his act, once when Mana took his hand to draw her Heart Mark charm, and finally when Mana asked him about his crush.
  • Nerves of Steel: In Episode 32, he steps in front of the Selfish to protect the campfire without any hesitations. In the final episode, he keeps watching the Cures fight even though everyone else had evacuated.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: A minor one in episode 32, in which he becomes very unmotivated after knowing Mana's condition. And a major one during the finale, in which he is the only one who thinks calmly after Mana's Accidental Public Confession and starts calling Mana's name on regular basis.
  • Say My Name: In the finale, he sure says Mana's name a lot.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The Manly Man to Momota's Sensitive Guy.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: In the movie.
Rikka: "You know, when boys like someone, they like to tease them on purpose."
    Nikaidou: *blushes*
    Momota: "Is that so?"
Nikaidou: "I-Idiot! Who would like her anyway!?"
  • Took a Level in Kindness: While Episode 32 shows that he cares about Mana, he still acts like a jerk around her. However, in the movie, Mana herself tells him to be honest to himself and express his feelings properly. The next time we see him (in meta sense, since the movie happened before the finale), he does exactly so. He's noticeably a lot calmer, too.
  • Unresolved Sexual Tension: The last few episodes made it very obvious that he loves Mana. But he never confessed to her. Ever.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to talk about him without bringing up his crush on Mana, which was implied but not even elaborated upon until the Non-Serial Movie.

  • Brutal Honesty: Yes, she has a boyfriend. Rachel took it badly when he learned the truth. At least, at first.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: She appears in the first episode as the girl who got sick during the bus trip. She reappears as Rachel's crush.
  • First-Name Basis: Even though she calls Mana "Pres" like other students, she also calls Rikka by her first name in Episode 36.
  • Hidden Depths: Initially is known as a sickly girl, she turns out to be a nice girl who cares a lot for the environment.
  • Walking Spoiler: After Episode 36, it's hard to talk about her without mentioning Rachel's crush on her.

    Hiroshi Juujou

Voiced by: Shuusaku Shirakawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hiroshi_juujou.png

One of Mana's classmates and the Oogai Middle School Student Council's Vice President.

  • Foreshadowing: He was frequently seen walking to and working at Student Council room before he got properly introduced as the Vice President later in the series.
  • Hyper-Competent Sidekick: Subverted. Unlike fellow Vice President Reika, he's next to useless when it comes to leadership. But for mundane tasks, he's really competent. Although he needs Charle and Makoto's help sometimes.
  • Meaningful Name/Punny Name: His full name literally means "Ten List Professor". It was first shown in a scene that shows the Top Ten students list, and because he has the best grade, it's placed at the top of the list. In other words, he is the smartest person, the "professor" of the Top Ten students list.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: He wears glasses and is one of the smartest students in his year; at one point he outranks even Rikka.

  • It Only Works Once: In her first battle with Buggy, Rikka uses ice powers to cause him to crash. In her second battle, Buggy grows Spiked Wheels to move on the ice.
  • Spiked Wheels: Buggy's wheel sprouts spikes during his second conflict with Rikka.

Selfish Royalty

    King Jikochuu

King Jikochuu/King Of the Trump Kingdom

Voiced by: Hōchū Ōtsuka (JP), Patrick Seitz (EN)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/selfishkingprofile.png
Click here to see him as a human

The leader of the evil force known only as "Jikochuu/Selfish". He led a successful invasion of the Trump Kingdom, but was petrified by Princess Marie-Ange. The agents of Jikochuu now seek to revive him by turning Psyches into Jikochuus, the act of which generates the negative energy needed to undo his petrification. He was originally the King of the Trump Kingdom, and Marie-Ange's father.

  • Abusive Parents: Implied a bit before he finally speaks at Regina in episode 21, who's deathly afraid of him. Shown in full detail in episode 21, where he tries to electrocute his own daughter just to keep her bound to his own will and doesn't care if she falls into a pit of lava for defying him.
    • In episode 22, He even uses a real life Abuser tactic (Pretending to be sorry for their anger) just to trick her into giving her dark energy to make the pain in her heart go away, even when she was being treated better then he ever treated her.
    • Episode 46 reveals that he wasn't originally like this. He would do anything, absolutely anything, for Marie-Ange's happiness. This doesn't end well.
    • Archnemesis Dad: Considering that Aguri is the light to Regina's darkness, this is the case.
  • Astral Projection: Uses this to communicate with Regina and to brainwash her in Episode 22.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: After he has regained his power, he rips open a portal to the Earth and invade it.
  • Bad Boss: He electrocutes his minions with lightnings from the sky.
  • Big Bad: He and his army destroyed the Trump Kingdom and all villains are under his command. Yes, he was corrupted by Proto-Jikochuu, but he's not working for him and all of the bad things in the story started by his selfishness. King Jikochuu is also more dangerous than Proto-Jikochuu.
  • Big Red Devil: Close enough.
  • Bloody Bowels of Hell: His interior. It's full of Jikochuu mooks.
  • Blow You Away: Summons a black tornado to isolate Regina from the Precures in Episode 22.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: He only become King Jikochuu due to the dark essence sealed in the castle basement. However, Proto-Jikochuu only corrupted his heart, but he had no direct control over King Jikochuu.
  • Climax Boss: Despite being the Big Bad, King Jikochuu was purified by the Cures in Episode 48, the anime's penultimate episode, where the Cures have to fight Bel, now Proto-Jikochuu, as the True Final Boss.
  • Creepy Monotone: In Episode 22, when he talks to Regina. It overlaps with a fatherly tone.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Ironically, he's more dangerous than Proto-Jikochuu.
  • Eldritch Abomination: It's revealed that he Was Once a Man who was turned into a giant monster.
  • Enemy Within: Literally; when the Cures reach his heart they have to fight the equivalent of white blood cells that represent his selfishness.
  • Evil Is Hammy: Probably the hammiest Big Bad in the franchise.
  • Evil Overlord: He's the evil leader of the Jikochuu who is utterly prideful and cruel towards his subordinates for their failures, including Regina.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: And they are red.
  • Good All Along: Not only is he Marie-Ange's father, he was simply driven crazy by the loss of his wife and the illness of his daughter to the point where he was willing to do anything to save the latter, a selfish desire that left a pretty big opening for the dark essence from the castle basement to take him over.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He's successfully purified at the end of episode 48.
  • I Choose to Stay: He and Regina now live with the Aida family.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: To save his daughter Marie-Ange from her illness, he ultimately unseals Proto-Jikochuu by destroying the crystal that the Eternal Golden Crown is bound to in order to save her. Unfortunately, that also caused him to give in to his selfish desires, namely pride, allowing the Proto-Jikochuu to make him an easy prey, leading to him becoming the King Jikochuu who spearheaded the fall of Trump Kingdom.
  • It's All About Me: Even his minions say that everything is about him and that he's too selfish. Considering that he decided that destroying the world is better than losing his daughter, they are spot on in their observation.
  • It's Personal: Episode 42 suggests this is why he attacked the Trump Kingdom. His dialogue with Ange hints that he was someone she knew. Episode 46 reveals he was actually the King of the Trump Kingdom all along.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Once he finally gets his speaking role in ep 21, he shows his true colors, and it's not pretty. See Abusive Father above.
  • Large and in Charge: Towers over the entire Trump Kingdom and is the leader of the Jikochuu.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler:Until the sixth episode, King Jikochuu was only mentioned in promotional materials and in Episode 2.
  • Love Makes You Crazy: His deep fear of losing Marie-Ange clouds all of his reason. He know what would happen to his people if he shatters the sealing crystal, but he does it anyway.
  • Love Makes You Evil: His desire to save Marie-Ange at the expense of the world was an extremely selfish act, enough to allow him to be corrupted by the dark essence.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: He's revealed to be Marie-Ange's father. Notable in that the reveal is a surprise to everyone except Marie-Ange, who knew all along.
  • No Indoor Voice: He's very loud, he yells his very first line, not to mention how angry he sounds when he yells "REEGIIIINAAAAAAAAA":
    • Inverted in the following episode, when he talks to Regina with a calm, fatherly, but also monotone voice. He brainwashes her anyway.
  • Obviously Evil: A gigantic, dark-colored creature with Spikes of Villainy, Glowing Eyes of Doom and Red Eyes, Take Warning.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: He lost his wife in childbirth. Then his daughter fell ill and the doctors were unable to find a cure.
  • Passing the Torch: Gives up his throne to Joe, changing the kingdom into a republic in the process.
  • Pride: When you think that your love is not dispensable and your people are, you're a hubris-ridden man.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: His eyes are red and he's the Big Bad.
  • Say My Name: Has the tendency to yell names whenever he's angry.
    • "REEGIIIINAAAAAAAAA!!!"
    • "PREEEEECUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURE!!!!"
    • "AAAAAANNNNGEEEEEEEEEEE!!"
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Wakes back up in Episode 21 after Regina and the Selfish Trio deliver Marie Ange to him. He still seems stuck in place, though. He frees himself in Episode 45.
  • Shock and Awe: Uses black and red colored lightning upon awakening.
  • Sinister Silhouette: He's the giant shadow Cure Sword sees at the beginning of the first episode.
    • In Episode 42, we finally see a silhouette with this arms and his muscular body before he was sealed by the princess.
  • Spikes of Villainy: He's full of thorns as a sign of his villainy.
  • That Man Is Dead: He no longer sees himself as Marie-Ange's father, only as the King Jikochuu.
  • Tragic Villain: Even the characters can't really blame him for what happened.
  • You Are Worth Hell: Platonic version. When he was still the King of the Trump Kingdom, he was willing to sacrifice his kingdom for his daughter. As King Jikochuu, this desire has been corrupted into a belief that destroying the world and flooding it with monsters based on Seven Deadly Sins is something better than losing Marie-Ange.

Regina

King Jikochuu's daughter. After her first loss against the Precures, she decides to become friends with Mana - for selfish reasons. However, their relationship develops into a true friendship; she eventually goes through a Heel–Face Turn, but not much later she's thoroughly brainwashed by her father.

It's later revealed that she's the dark half of Princess Mari-Ange's psyche, with the light half being Aguri.

  • 11th-Hour Ranger: In episode 47, she joins the Precures.
  • Arch-Enemy: Due to their friendship, she's this to Cure Heart.
  • Badass Fingersnap: Many of her magic abilities are activated by this (See also Person of Mass Destruction below).
  • Big Damn Heroes: Regina regains her power and rescues Cure Heart from the pit of lava.
  • Badass in Distress: She turns into this when she regains her power, and she saves Cure Heart and herself by her own.
  • Blow You Away: Upon being brainwashed, she can fire a black tornado out of her hand.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: As of episode 22. In episode 46 she unbrainwashes herself, but still follows her father anyway out of love.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: She is the second shortest female character in the show, and is always making the Selfish Trio do things for her.
  • Break the Cutie: For all she's done in the series, she's one of three characters (the others being Mana and Makoto, the latter whose homeworld was destroyed) who get subjected to the most emotional torture in the whole series. In her case, though, the torture is far more serious.
  • Captain Ersatz: One might say she's a villainous version of Minako Aino/Sailor Venus. Coincidentally, they have the same actress in the English dub.
  • Character Development: A very dynamic one.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: After being brainwashed, Regina defeats the Precure without any struggles, but then Cure Ace appears and Regina is curb-stomped by her.
  • Cuteness Overload: When Ai-chan is involved.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: She even uses her status to boss the Selfish Trio around.
  • Damsel in Distress: Upon depowerment and snapping out of her psychotic state, the Selfish Trio kidnap her and take her back to King Jikochuu. She is also used as bait in episode 21 to lure Mana into a trap.
  • Dark Magical Girl: DMG comes in two varieties: immoral or enslaved. She's the former type. Is shown to also be the enslaved type after she snaps out of her mind controlled state, saying her father terrifies her.
    • In Episode 46 she actually unbrainwashes herself, but still follows her father anyway out of love.
  • De-power: Loses her abilities in episode 20, for unexplained reasons (though it might have to do with the Royal Crystals). She then regains them the next episode, gets her powers sealed by King Jikochuu, then regains them again.
  • The Dragon: To her father, King Jikochuu. Her summoned Jikochuus are powerful enough to withstand and break the Precures' individual Mid-Season Upgrade attacks.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She actually appears in the first opening as a silhouette in front of King Jikochuu.
  • Enemy Without: To Cure Ace.
  • Evil Costume Switch: Well. More Evil Costume Switch: Although it's more a Brainwashed and Crazy Costume Switch, as it turns back after she breaks the brainwashing in Episode 46.
  • Evil Counterpart: To all Precures. She is the evil blond girl to Cure Heart, the Spoiled Brat to Alice, comes from a different world like Cure Sword and wants to be Mana's only friend in contrast to Rikka. Also, her black and (former) red features of her appearance contrast the in white and red clad Cure Ace.
  • Evil Wears Black: Her costume is mainly black. During her temporarily Heel–Face Turn, she wears red clothes on the beach, but later switches to her black costume. Probably because the animation studio makes her joining the evil side again anyway.
  • Face–Monster Turn: Gets brainwashed by her father AGAIN, and gets increased power, with the red parts of her outfit now turned purple, as well as her eyes now permanently red. Granted, she's always falling victim to this at varying intensities for periods of varying lengths, but this time, it would seem she got it far worse than ever before.
  • Finger Poke of Doom: She creates Jikochuus by corrupting the people's hearts with a finger beam. She can also attack with finger beams.
    • After being brainwashed and her heart being completely engulfed by her fathers shadow, the finger beams turn into Kamehame Hadouken's out of her fingers.
    • Foreshadowing: This proves to be a hint about her true nature; Aguri also did this in episode 23, and episode 45 reveals that both are Marie-Ange.
  • Flight: One of her common abilities.
    • Chekhov's Gun: In Episode 21, when she regains her power and rescues Cure Heart.
  • Freudian Trio: Acts as The McCoy of a trio with Cure Ace as The Spock and Mana as The Kirk. Semi-literal, since Regina was formed from Marie-Ange's feelings towards her father while Cure Ace was formed from her sense of duty towards her people.
  • Genki Girl: A particularly villainous example. She is always cheerful because she always gets what she wants.
  • Good All Along: Both she and Aguri are Marie-Ange; specifically, she's Marie-Ange's darker side that was separated from her in an attempt to foil the evil machinations of Bel.
  • Graceful Loser: In episode 15, she actually seems amused by the fact that the Precure defeated the Jikochuu she created.
    • Sore Loser: In episode 19, when she lost the Jikochuu game and refused to hand over the four Royal Crystals.
      • Happens again in episode 23, when she loses to Cure Ace and yells at Mana she won't forgive the Precures.
Regina: "Precure... I won't ever forgive you! PRECUUUUUUUURE!!" *vanish*
    • In both of these cases, she's under mind control, so the point may be that despite her selfishness, she's naturally a Graceful Loser, while the Sore Loser tendencies show that she's not herself. Especially true in episode 23.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Episodes 22 and 46.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Episode 20 finally has her do one these as the result of the Royal Crystals leading her and Mana to Marie-Ange, which snaps her out of her psychotic state. Before she can stay by Mana's side, the Selfish Trio kidnaps her and the frozen Marie-Ange.
  • Heel Realization: A minor one in episode 16, but significant as she starts to realize after fighting Pretty Cure in that episode that her idea of trying to befriend Mana (i.e. killing her actual friends) may not have been the best way to go about it. Upon getting the Red Royal Crystal, she goes nuts for a few episodes, but by episode 20, she finally snaps out of that at least until being brainwashed again in episode 22.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: The hetero part is debatable, but she's living with Mana now.
  • I Choose to Stay: She and her father now live with the Aida family, with Regina transferring to Oogai First Middle School in the process.
  • It's All About Me: And how!
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: Her blue-eyed mode is her "least evil" mode.
  • Kaleidoscope Eyes: Her eyes keep changing from one color to another as a sign of how mind-controlled she is.
  • Kamehame Hadouken: Fires them out of her fingers after her father brainwashes her AGAIN and powers her up. Not necessarily with her fingers, though.
  • Kubrick Stare: Watch episode 18.
  • Lack of Empathy: She is the daughter of Selfishness itself, after all.
  • Licked by the Dog: Ai-chan, the cute baby fairy, really likes her despite her being from the Selfish Kingdom. Surprisingly, Regina likes her back. Just one of many hints that Regina isn't so bad.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: The dark to Aguri's light.
  • Literal Split Personality: To Marie-Ange along with Cure Ace.
  • Love Hurts: Literally! Being in (platonic) love with Mana brings great pain to her chest. When she cast away that feeling she stops being in pain.
  • Love Makes You Evil: Even when she escapes her brainwashing, she joins her father out of love.
  • Lust: She's driven by her desirenote . Her desire for Mana makes the plot of episode 16. Whether it's the lewd kind of desire is up to anyone's guess.
    • At the end of episode 46, her strong desire to be with her father makes her stay by her father's side without being brainwashed.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: When her father brainwashes her, she becomes more powerful and defeats the four Precure easily.
    • Due of her lack of level grinding, she's outmatched by them in Episode 39, but then she pulls out the Miracle Dragon Glaive, making her equal to the other Cures.
    • She eventually unlocks the full power of the said weapon in Episode 47, most likely making her that much stronger.
  • Mind Control: The Red Royal Crystal turns her batshit insane, her eyes gaining a red glow that glows stronger with more crystals gathered around her. She snaps out of it after she and Mana are led to Marie-Ange. See Not Herself below.
  • My Country, Right or Wrong: My Father, Right or Wrong: She only sides with her Brainwashed and Crazy father in episode 46 because she truly loves him.
  • I Am X, Son of Y: My Name Is Regina, Daughter of King Jikochuu: Her first introduction. And later, when she introduces herself to the Precures.
  • Mysterious Watcher: Her first appearance at the very end of episode 12.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: She greedily grabs the Eternal Golden Crown from Cure Ace's hands, forcing her to see what actually happened in the past. This breaks her out from King Jikochuu's brainwashing.
  • No Social Skills: Justified, she comes from the Selfish Kingdom.
  • Not Brainwashed: Episode 46.
  • Not Herself: After she gets the red Royal Crystal, she turns veeery bad, contrary to her earlier personality. There are times where she almost snaps out of it. It's later suggested that her reaction to the Royal Crystals was the result of being part of Marie-Ange.
    • She snaps out of it for real in episode 20 when she brings the crystals together and reveals the location of the frozen Marie-Ange.
    • It happens to her again after King Jikochuu re-power and brainwash her in episode 22. And this time she's seriously kicking ass.
    • Averted for the last part of her rampage. She is being herself, blue eyes and all, when she goes to King Jikochuu's side to destroy Earth: she truly loves her father.
  • Obviously Evil: The Cures couldn't guess that Regina is this at first.
  • Ojou: The daughter of an evil king. Also, Bel often calls her "ojou".
  • Only the Chosen May Wield: The four Cures aren't able to pull the Princess Mari-Ange's Miracle Dragon Glaive out of the ground. Regina can.
  • Paint It Blacker: Her outfit after King Jikochuu re-power her.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: If she wants, she can destroy Mana's school with a single fingersnap. Fortunately, Mana can prevent this action.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Being King Jikochuu's daughter makes her much stronger than the Selfish Trio (Bel being a possible exception when getting serious).
    • After her father brainwashes her in Episode 22, she can now fire Kamehame Hadouken's out of her fingers at a level that Cure Mint would be proud of, and casually, to boot.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Subverted. Her hair color becomes paler when she gets her Mid-Season Upgrade by her father. It gives her a colder appearance.
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: Very proper, if episode 45's twist is anything to go by.
  • Proud Beauty: When she sees Mana's photo album, she says that child Mana was cute... but not as cute as herself.
    • In episode 13, she says that she hates everything that is more beautiful than her.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Her More Evil Costume Switch changes the red parts of her costume into purple.
  • Put on a Bus: King Jikochuu puts her to sleep in episode 23 in order to heal from her injuries. But you just know she'll be back eventually...
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Her color scheme. It's all 'dark' colors, in contrast to the Cures. Though, she is not that evil until her eyes turn red.
    • The red parts turns purple after King Jikochuu brainwashes her and powers her up.
    • Subverted in the end. Even when she joins the Precure, lives on Earth and fights for good, she still wears her black and red costume.
  • Redemption Earns Life: Her end fate.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Her blue eyes turn red after gaining the red Royal Crystal in episode 17. And she becomes really evil. It's a sign of Mind Control.
    • Has them long-term after being brainwashed by her father in episode 22. The red eyes start to fade to blue as the mind control weakens, until they return to blue completely in episode 46, when she decides she doesn't need to be controlled to follow her father.
  • Red Herring: It looked like she would become the Sixth Ranger Pretty Cure. It didn't happen. However, she becomes the 11th-Hour Ranger and the Sixth Ranger in the end, but not as a Cure.
  • Say My Name: "Mana!"
    • Also, her name "Regina!" is shouted very often.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: In episode 19, during the Jikochuu Game.
  • Shaping Your Attacks: With the Miracle Dragon Glaive, she can fire a beam with the shape of a dragon.
  • She's Back: Villainous version. Episode 39. She's now more confident than ever in her crusade to make her daddy proud of her. She also gets the Miracle Dragon Glaive, and is not shy of using it. Daaamn.
  • Shock and Awe: Played for Laughs in episode 42.
  • Sixth Ranger: After being the 11th-Hour Ranger in the Grand Finale, she joins the Precure and fights with them for good. Unfortunately, this does not make her a main character, and she suffers from her unofficial heroine status like the Kiryuu twins and Royale Candy.
  • Slasher Smile: When she gets reeeally evil.
  • The Sociopath: Seems like one at first, but this is gradually subverted through Character Development.
  • Sphere of Destruction: After being Brainwashed, she creates one of these to finish off the Pretty Cure after they are forced out of their forms. It gets intercepted by Cure Ace just in the nick of time, though.
  • Spoiled Brat: She expects everyone to cater to her whims. The Selfish Trio can't really go against her since she's King Jikochuu's daughter.
  • Super-Strength: See Pintsized Power House above.
  • Tears of Joy: After she become aware that her father sacrificed his kingdom to heal her. Indeed, it was such a great love. Subverted. It's perhaps joy, but she is actually pushed to the breaking point because she can't choose between siding with her father or with Mana.
  • Token Good Teammate: Before brainwashing. Downplayed, since she wasn't good neither, just spoiled.
    • Played straight after being fully free from the influence of the red Royal Crystal.
  • Tragic Villain: Heck, her entire existence is based off selfish love for her father.
  • Troll: She loves pushing people's buttons.
  • Tsundere: The brainwashed Regina is this to Mana. When she accidentally blurts out that she likes Mana and Cure Heart just hears it, Regina's turns completely red. Either that was a Freudian Slip on Regina's part, or cracks are finally starting to show in the brainwashing...
  • The Unfettered: She doesn't understand the concept of 'obligation'. If there is someone she likes, she doesn't care that that someone may have obligation to people other than her. Mana has a student council to attend? Why, just destroy the school, then there won't be a council!
    • And after being brainwashed, rinsed and dried by her father yet again in episode 22, this trope goes to eleven.
  • Villain Forgot to Level Grind: Justified, she was Put on a Bus in episode 23 and slept until her reappearance in episode 37, while the other four girls became stronger, and then even more stronger after gaining the Magical Lovely Pad. In episode 39, Cure Heart outmaches her, but then Regina gets her new Mid-Season Upgrade in the same episode.
  • Villain Teleportation: A common ability.
  • Walking Spoiler: Pretty much everything happening to her counts as a spoiler. Especially the part that she's a villain for the most part of the series.
  • What Is This Thing You Call Friendship?
  • Yandere: Platonic version. She goes to great lengths to make sure that she is Mana's only friend - by getting rid of her other teammates. This backfires hard.
  • You Are Worth Hell: Platonic version. Even after seeing what actually happened in the past, she decides to side with King Jikochuu anyway— because she loves her father and doesn't have it in her heart to leave him alone.

Selfish Agents

    Selfish Agents in General
The primary agents of the evil force known as "Jikochuu", each named after one of the Seven Deadly Sins. Though they appear to be human on first glance, they can be identified by their pale blue/white hair and the small demonic wings behind their ears. They can create additional Jikochuu by amplifying the darkness in someone's heart (their "Psyche") and then forcibly separating the contaminated Psyche from its human body.
  • Badass Fingersnap: How they create Dark Psyches.
  • Battle Aura: They are sometimes surrounded by evil energy. Ai-chan can unleash their surpressed energy by crying.
  • But Now I Must Go: Their existence are tied to Proto-Jikochuu. When he's awake so are they, and vice versa. Proto-Jikochuu is defeated and forced into dormancy in the finale, which means the Selfish Agents are to return to long, long sleep. They aren't exactly bitter about it, since selfishness will always exist and they will rise again.
    • In case of Ira, he feels slightly reassured that there will always be people like Rikka to meet again in the future.
  • Flight: A common Pretty Cure villain ability.
  • It's All About Me: All of them are very haughty, vain and arrogant, looking down on everyone, even the Pretty Cure team.
  • Jerkass Genie: How they summon the Monsters of the Week. They say they would fulfill the selfish desires of the Victims of the Week, but they corrupt their hearts, rip them off and turn those into Jikochuus. And the victims don't even respond to their "offer".
  • Lack of Empathy: They are selfish, after all.
  • Laughably Evil: Sometimes, you think they are just Comic Relief Characters.
  • Obviously Evil: Their names are based on the Seven Deadly Sins, another tell-tale sign of their villainy.
  • Our Demons Are Different: They are subtle example of Demon Lords and Archdevils. Each of them is an embodiment of human vice, and as such can empower vice-laden humans. When they need better minion, they simply possess those humans. And they are tied to the prime evil, Proto-Jikochuu.
  • Out of Focus: The Selfish Trio loses spotlight to the Selfish Deputies and Regina.
  • Quirky Miniboss Squad:
    • Terrible Trio: Ira, Mamo and Bel. The Selfish Trio. Like almost all Terrible Trios in previous series, they rarely work together and they have even less team spirit. Also, they are often Butt Monkeys.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: Three of the five members of the Quirky Miniboss Squad are named after three of the demons that represent the Seven Deadly Sins: Bel is named after Belphegor, demon of sloth, Mamo after Mammon, demon of greed, and Leva after Leviathan, demon of envy. Ira and Gula are partial Odd names out, partial because "ira" and "gula" are Latin for "Wrath" and "Gluttony", respectively, (as in the Deadly Sins).
  • Seven Deadly Sins: Reflected by their names and personalities.
  • Spell My Name With An S:
    • Ira/Eera
    • Mamo/Marmo/Mammo
    • Bel/Bale/Pell
    • Leva/Leeva/Liva/Reva/Riva
    • Gula/Gura
    • Lust/Roost
    • Gouma/Goma/Gorma/Gooma
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Their eyes are yellow, an indicator that they're not human.
  • Villain Teleportation: Another common Pretty Cure villain ability.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Many of them have white hair, but they're all villains.

    Ira

Voiced by: Mayumi Tanaka (Japanese), Ben Diskin (English) Foreign VAs

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ira_dokidoki.png

An impulsive and immature brat who acts as one of the primary agents of "Jikochuu". He, Mamo and Bel form a team known as the Selfish Trio.

  • Arch-Enemy: Since his amnesiac episode, he becomes this to Cure Diamond, similar like Regina to Cure Heart.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: The reason he temporarily helps the Cures in episode 26.
  • Blow You Away: In episode 26, he uses this to save the Precures from Gula while pretending to attack them.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: His defining characteristic.
  • The Brute: He relies on brute strength, reflected by his (dumb) Jikochuus. He's also the member of the Selfish Trio who has fight the Cures the most, yet.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: As his name suggests, he's very easy to provoke to anger.
  • Identity Amnesia: Suffers this in episode 26. During this time, he actually acts kind and polite. He eventually returns to normal, but it's implied the experience may have changed him...
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Seems delighted when he saw Rikka with her friends in the ending, before he's gone for good.
  • Meaningful Name: He is named for the Latin word for "wrath" (ira).
  • Lack of Empathy: He and Mamo don't care about how King Jikochuu punishes his daughter. The events of episode 26 may change this for him.
  • Pet the Dog: In episode 26, he saves the Cures from Gula.
  • Restraining Bolt: In episode 32, the Blood Rings he and Mamo wear serve this function for Bel, until episode 38.
  • Running Gag: Most of his bowling throws are gutters. Interestingly, he threw only strikes when he was shown playing bowling for the first time.

    Mamo

Voiced by: Atsuko Tanaka (Japanese), Carrie Keranen (English) Foreign VAs

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mamo_dokidoki.png
A devious and calculating woman who acts as one of the primary agents of "Jikochuu". She is named after Mammon, the demon who represents "greed". She, Ira and Bel form a team known as the Selfish Trio.
  • Arch-Enemy: She often confronts Cure Rosetta, and she's usually the first villain who learns from Rosetta's Took a Level in Badass moments.
  • Blow You Away: In Episode 25, she uses as Cutie Madame a Combat Hand Fan to create strong blows.
  • Evil Is Petty: One particular rampage was set off by... discovering that she had a pimple. When she ended up being put to sleep by her own Monster of the Week, it ended up going away, and, as she thought she needed a beauty sleep, she was so overjoyed she left the battlefield without any complaint.
  • Finger Poke of Doom: In Episode 25, she fires a beam.
  • Greed: Her defining vice. She always want something, even if it's petty. Since her wanting may endanger people, the Cures always stop her. When she actually gets what she wants (see Evil Is Petty above), she is not looking for trouble.
  • High-Class Fan: In her high-class 'Cutie Madame' disguise, she has a fancy, fur-trimmer fan in hand, which also doubles as a Combat Hand Fan.
  • Lack of Empathy: She and Ira don't care about how King Jikochuu punishes his daughter. She even calls her stupid.
  • Manchild: Acts just as childish as Ira does from time to time.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: As Cutie Madame, she fights a Jikochuu that attacks her, then the Precures promptly finish it.
    • Stealing Sebastian's new gadget that causes his worries and attacking him is not a good idea, as Alice pays attention to her butler's concern. Of course, Alice is angry about this (though, not enough to put her Berserk Button) and she gets an Power-Up, resulting in Mamo getting her ass kicked by Rosetta. It should be noted that the Power-Up was "requested" by Cure Ace.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: A Jikochuu attacks her because of this in episode 25.
  • Paper Fan of Doom: As Cutie Madame, she has a fan as her weapon.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Her Cutie Madame costume. The first time when the characters saw her, only Sebastian who built the artificial Commune, Cure Diamond and Gula pointed it out.
  • Pink Means Feminine: As Cutie Madame, she wears a pink dress.
  • Professional Butt-Kisser: To Bel in later episodes, since she's enslaved by wearing his Blood Ring until Episode 38.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Though the gender of the two unseen agents are unknown.
  • Superpowers For A Day: When she accidentally finds Sebastian's artificial commune, she uses it to become Cutie Madame. Of course, she only fakes being a hero.
  • Sweet Tooth: Enjoys sweets and can be seen eating them in some scenes.
  • Villainous Glutton: She's almost always seen eating or drinking something. It got worse, since the Blood Ring she wears contains Gula's evil energy.
  • Whip of Dominance: She fights with a purple whip, fitting her domineering, bossy, and overbearing demeanor, and she'd often use the whip to chain and bind her enemies.

    Bel

Voiced by: Kazuhiro Yamaji (Japanese), Ray Chase (English) Foreign VAs

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bel_dokidoki.png

An sunglasses-wearing older man who acts as one of the primary agents of "Jikochuu". He is named after Belphegor, the demon who represents "sloth". He, Ira and Mamo form a team known as the Selfish Trio.

  • Arch-Enemy: Subverted. It looks like he would be one to Cure Heart or Cure Sword, but in the end, he isn't.
  • Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work: He kills both Leva and Gula after they were defeated by the Precures.
  • Beard of Evil
  • Breaking Speech: He attempts to call Marie-Ange's out in her selfish desire to save her father. Marie-Ange breaks her darkened heart in response.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Corresponding to the sin he is named after. He is the most powerful of the Selfish Trio but often doesn't bother to take action.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: This guy has serious issues when it comes to not betraying others.
    • He plans on betraying King Jikochuu and gain more power than anyone else. He let Regina fall into boiling hot lava pit when he thinks he can get rid of her this way.
    • He kills Leva and Gula and use their body to create Blood Rings, and he then tricks Mamo and Ira into putting them on, which lets him control them to an extent.
    • When Cure Ace confronts Regina, he tries to overpower both of them with a lot of Jikochu at once as they have been worn out from the duel.
  • Does Not Like Spam: He hates carrots.
  • Dragon Ascendant: He eats the remains of King Jikochuu and becomes the final villain.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: He really doesn't like being called "Bel-chan" by Leva.
  • The Evil Genius: The term "evil" fits, his plans are more vicious and radical than Mamo's. His first plan is sending the Precures to another dimension and making them desperate. His second plan involves kidnapping Ai-chan and forcing Mana to fight him alone in his trap zone. His third plan is killing both Cure Heart and Regina by throwing them in a pit of lava and the only thing that saves them is a spider string; either Regina would betray Heart and Bel would cut the string to kill her, too, or both would fall and die. And later, he absorbs Leva and Gula's evil energy after they ultimately lose to the Precures and kills those guys off. Then he tries to turn Ai-chan into a Jikochuu. However, his attempt to gain the Miracle Dragon Glaive for himself backfires.
  • Evil Laugh: Countered by Mana's own Evil Laugh.
  • For the Evulz: He likes breaking the will of other people or proving that love doesn't stop somebody acting selfish/evil. He's correct about that last part.
  • Hope Crusher: See For the Evulz above.
  • Insult Backfire: Tells the Precure that being considered a coward is "the highest honor a Selfish can receive."
  • It's Personal: Bel sets up a plan to battle Cure Heart one-on-one in retribution for her delivering the finishing blow against him in their first battle.
  • Kamehame Hadouken: In Episode 22.
  • Kick the Dog: He uses Regina as a decoy and tries to kill her, after she was electrocuted by her father and is still being de-powered. And later, he kills Leva and Gula after they were defeated by the Precures' finisher move.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Whenever he decides to get serious, things get edgy.
  • Lack of Empathy: Even after Regina was punished by her father, he used her as a decoy and tries to kill her.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Oh yes he is. He replaces Regina, and later Leva and Gula this way.
  • Out of Focus: While the Selfish Trio already suffers from Spotlight Stealing Squads, Bel gets much less screentime than Ira and Mamo. And he's not even The Dragon, who usually get less screentime than other villains. Considering his vice, this could be justified.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: In Episode 39, when he transforms into Joe, he still obviously wear an apron with Bel's color theme and his scarf, and often acts out of Joe's character. The heroines and mascots use this as their advantage.
  • Professional Butt-Kisser: To Regina. Then subverted when he tricks her into speaking out against her father. He actually wants an excuse to kill Regina so that he can be the king's Number Two.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: A Shout-Out to Kenshiro's Hokuto Hyakuretsu Ken, including a Temporary Bulk Change and ATATATATATATATATATATA.
  • Shock and Awe: Not for fun. Except in Episode 32 and afterwards, where it's used for fun at Ira and Mamo's expense.
  • Sleep-Mode Size: He's turned into a mouse at the end of the series.
  • Sloth: His defining vice. He is driven to avoid more confrontation with the Cures, and thus in the few times he appear, he's giving his all. But he's not strong enough, so it's always more work for him.
    • He waits until Leva and Gula ultimately fail to defeat the Precures and absorbs their evil energy.
  • Smug Snake: He thinks, he could defeat the Pretty Cures or becoming the Jikochuu's number two or even number one. But most of his plans don't work.
  • The Starscream: To Regina at least. He tries to kill her so that he could usurp her position in the hierarchy. He also thinks, he could usurp King Jikochuus position.
    • He does it again to Leva and Gula.
    • In Episode 38, he dreams of taking King Jikochuu's place. And in Episode 48...
  • Sweet Tooth: Apparently. He is often seen with lolipops.
  • Temporary Bulk Change: In Episode 38, he uses the two Blood Rings to become a muscle monster guy called Super Bel. It's utterly ineffective.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: His lolipops. He's often seen sucking them.
    • Chekhov's Gun: He kills Leva and Gula by absorbing their evil energy with his pink lollipop which turns red.
  • Villain Decay: He gets hit with this hard at the end of Episode 38 (admittedly because the Cures defeated him, but still). And in Episode 39 the Cures actually see through his Evil Plan... and take advantage of it!
    • Completely subverted in Episode 48... and double subverted next episode.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: In Episode 39 he's shown to, transform into other people and he can even mimic their voices. He disguises himself as Joe.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He was about to kill Ai-chan when Diamond, Sword and Rosetta came as Heart's reinforcement, judging that she's breaking the deal. However, Ai-chan saved herself.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: He kills Leva and Gula in Episode 31 after they lose their final battle.

    Leva

A thin, androgynous man who is named after Leviathan, the demon who represents "envy". His partner is Gula. He and Gula are killed by Bel who drains their evil energy in Episode 31. His evil energy is contained in one of the Blood Rings which is worn by Ira.

  • Arc Villain: Along with Gula, he's the villain from episode 23 to episode 31 where he dies.
  • Body to Jewel: Kind of. Between episodes 31 and 32, Bel used their absorbed energy to make the Blood Rings Ira and Mamo now wear.
  • Brains and Brawn: He has the brain, Gula has the brawn.
  • Evil Plan: Using a Jikochuu Tree which corrupts the hearts of all people in the world with evil seeds and turning them into Jikochuus. The evil energy of the Jikochuus would revive King Jikochuu.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: His Vice. He's envious about Cure Ace's beauty and hates her.
  • In Love with Your Carnage: Leva says he likes Gula's "wildness" while he's eating couches. The latter blushes.
  • Killed Off for Real: Dies when Bel drains his evil energy.
  • Mask Power: How his "face" looks like in his fusion form.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: In his fusion form, he breaks the Magical Lovely Pad. But there are five broken pieces left and all five girls gain their own Magical Lovely Pads. The result is that they gain their new finisher group and defeat Leva and Gula.
  • No Body Left Behind: Bel absorbed his energy, leaving no corpse to bury, just dust.
  • Perma-Stubble: It makes him looks like the stereotypical okama. His "face" of his fusion form has this, too.
  • Serial Escalation: His and Gula's immense strength are the result of the writers throwing in something last minute to power up the villain team by the mid-way point, since Cure Ace was that much powerful in her first appearance.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: After his and Gula's final defeat, Bel absorbs their evil energy into his lollipop, turning them both to dust.
  • Weaponized Headgear: It can slice through things like Kung Lao's!

  • Breath Weapon: Inverted. He eats attacks and inhales them instead of breathing out attacks.

  • Fat Bastard: Annoy him and he tries to eat you.
  • Fusion Dance: With Leva.

  • Meaningful Name: Gula means "Gluttony" in Latin, Spanish and Portuguese.
  • No Body Left Behind: Bel absorbed his energy, leaving just dust behind.
  • Serial Escalation: His and Leva's immense strength are the result of the writers throwing in something last minute to power up the villain team by the mid-way point, since Cure Ace was that much powerful in her first appearance.
  • Straight Gay: Suggested he's this to Leva, at least.
  • Tons Of Teeth: All his teeths are fangs.
  • Topheavy Guy: His legs are a bit short and noticeably skinnier than his muscular arms, too skinny for his fat/muscular body. Because of his legs, his arms look creepily long.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: After his and Leva's final defeat, Bel absorbs their evil energy into his lollipop, turning them both to dust.
