Playable Characters

    Gray
The initial protagonist. Gray travels to the Void in search of a way to rescue Lily from the clutches of demons.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Gray has some memories she is unable to access. It is later revealed she had those memories forcibly extracted so she could live as a human. The Bad Ending song "Voided" even refers to these memories as a 'Safety Locker'.
  • Camera Fiend: Gray in modern times never took to technology well, but she took to cameras quickly, making an album of photos to show Lily when she eventually escapes the Void. The Memory section in the pause menu is a collection of photos she took of Lillie that you can unlock with Memory Shards.
  • The Determinator: A necessity in order to traverse the Void without succumbing to despair and transforming into a void egg, she is willing to take on any burden on Lily's behalf.
  • Education Mama: Gray when raising Lillie was a strict but caring mother, making sure she kept up on her studies and did well in school. This drove a wedge in their relationship as Lillie desired to be her own person and Gray's own grief of being unable to rescue Lily and raising her daughter to be a replacement Lily created friction that eventually drove the two apart.
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: Not as bad as Lily, but Gray is noted by her own daughter to struggle with modern technology. However, she has taken a shine to cameras and photography.
  • Freudian Slip: In the last memory in Lilith Mode, Gray and Lillie get into a heated argument after the latter cuts her hair short and Lillie calls her out on her stick-in-the-mud attitude towards her life. Eventually Gray snaps and accidentally mentions that she's "just like her mother", causing Lillie to become taken completely aback by the knowledge that Gray is not her biological mother.
  • Glass Cannon: Zig-Zagged Trope where in the fight against the bandit and his goons, she has 9999HP, but in all other RPG fights she has a measly 10HP. Even with the low HP value, when she aims to hurt, she hits hard, being able to do 6666 damage to Bee should she land a hit on the Void Lord. Against regular humans, she is a Lightning Bruiser but against Void Lords, she's this trope.
  • God in Human Form: The DIS Ending route reveals that she's an incarnation of Void Lord Add.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: Before entering the Void, Gray was a renowned fighter and fights bare-handed, even against the likes of Bee's true form to protect Lily. The effort doesn't win her the day, but it's a valiant effort nonetheless. It IS however enough to completely trounce Johann in a single punch and leave him bleeding out on the floor.
  • Killed Off for Real: No matter what ending you get, Gray will either die of illness or become one with the stars in the DIS ending. There is not a single ending where she survives.
  • Red Baron: Gray was known as Gray the Destroyer before being employed under the service of the king to be Lily's aide.

    Lillie
The second protagonist. A rebellious young woman who winds up in the Void accidentally after being startled by Cif's true form and falling in. Going off of the title card at the end of her game mode, her name is short for Lilith.
  • Butch Lesbian: Possibly, going off of how she starts swooning and has a panic attack when Ninnie gushes on her about how strong and cool she is at the end of the Escort Mission.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Nearly succumbs to this after Bee forces her to either piece together the truth about her life and Gray's raising of her, or traps her in a completely unsolvable puzzle until she breaks if you skip the birch tree. Lillie eventually snaps, begs someone to end it all and turns into a void egg from despair, becoming seconds away from being devoured by Bee. Fortunately, the spirit of Add manifests from the Void Scepter and banishes Bee before restoring the girl's human form.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: Doesn't get to fully show it off, but like her mother, she was trained how to defend herself and frequently gets into fighting stance with some of the NPC's, notably when meeting the Bandit and Old Man. The stance is enough to make both of them immediately do a double-take after seeing Gray in her.
  • Gravity Is a Harsh Mistress: At the start of her campaign, she sees the Void open before her and suddenly a large demon appears behind her... only for the situation to appear back to normal and her standing over the opened hole in her room. The moment she realizes she's standing on nothing, she flails about before taking a tumble down into the depths.
  • Heroic Bastard: Biologically, she's the child of Lily and Johann, whose "marriage" was interrupted before Johann could sacrifice Lily.
  • Heroic Host: In her version of the DIS ending, Add awakens inside her body. The two bounce back and forth in control depending on the circumstances, like Add being in control when directly conversion with Lev and Lillie being knocked back into control when bonked on the head by her mother.
  • Like Mother, Like Daughter: Just like Lily, Lilith would act like a monster under her blanket to Gray. Unfortunately for her, Gray's not having it and tosses Lilith across the room, instantly defeating her and getting her to cooperate.
    • Very late in Lilith's story, she comes across an old man who gives her an intense aura and eventually prompts her to get into Gray's fighting stance, showing that Gray taught her to not put up with hostility... which makes the old man laugh from the resemblance. It's heavily implied he is Gray's king and seeing her in Lillie, all he can do is laugh at history repeating itself.
  • "Well Done, Daughter!" Gal: Ultimately, Lillie's eventual reasoning for traversing the Void after falling in accidentally. She just wants Gray's approval and to be accepted as her own being, her end goal being to ask the Void Court for one final chance to make amends with her deceased step-mother.

    Cif
ZERO Prosecutor of the Void Court and the third protagonist. Cif begins her own journey through the void in search of Bee, who went missing shortly after Lillie's tale concludes.
  • Berserk Button: Calling her horns fat is a quick way to get Cif upset with you.
  • Bullet Hell: Cif's boss fight consists of a unique mechanic of her bullets move in real time and clutter the screen while you're still locked to a grid. Extremely careful planning on movement is critical to dealing with her attacks.
  • The Comically Serious: Even when pulled into Bee's more silly moments, she still doesn't drop her attitude, such as calmly pulling out an umbrella to block Bee's crying from landing on her, or her resigned expression when dancing in the credits.
  • Expy: Cif, with her (initially) short hair, serious attitude, and relationship with her sister Bee, bears a heavy resemblance to Dori, who piloted the Type-C fighter, Decker. After beating her route, the ending graphic has her take the place of Dori in the ZeroRanger third anniversary artwork, and the Sound Test code 28-09 has Cif wearing the same suit.
  • Kaizo Trap: During her final barrage towards the very end, the screen will dim as her light begins to burn out. In complete darkness there is one last projectile that must be dodged completely blind to win the fight.
  • Marathon Boss: If you decide to attack Cif head-on in her boss fight, she can take an absurd amount of punishment from Add's Scepter.
  • Not So Stoic: Cif tends to keep a cool head about her but occasionally that mask cracks and she shows a lot more personality than she lets on, such as being completely dumbfounded and annoyed when Lily refers to her as "Big Horns".
    Lily: "Hey, you! Big Horns!"
Cif: *Death Glare* "Big what now?"
  • Only Sane Woman: Of the Void Court, Cif is the most level-headed and serious of the three, usually not getting into the antics of Bee and being more stoic than ZERO Judge.
  • Pride: Cif's sin. Cif thinks highly of their position in the void court and doesn't like the idea of having pity thrown her way by ZERO Judge, or being DIS' guinea pig. On top of that, insulting her appearance, especially her horns, is a surefire way to draw her ire, something Bee loves to mercilessly tease her about. Her battle inside DIS as a giant four-eyed demon is also what she sees herself as, something bigger and more intimidating than her true form(a small larva-like creature) is. She uses that form when she opposes another, such as scaring Lillie into the Void or standing against Gray/Lillie or even Lev in the joke ending of her route inside DIS.
  • Puzzle Boss: Doubles as Easy Level Trick. Hitting the right-most bug when it's charging an attack will instantly end the fight, being Cif's true body. Not unlike another game with an alien that fights with 3 bodies and the big one being the fake.
  • Victory by Endurance: More or less if you fight her the hard way, you burn out Cif's energy and she can't contain DIS' power anymore, self-destructing at the end of her final barrage.
  • Visual Pun: Disguises herself as a lamp in Lillie's room before scaring her into the Void. She's named after the Lightbringer.

    Lily
A princess with the reputation of a devil, who Gray has sworn to protect.
  • Bedsheet Ghost: Pretends to be this when being a brat, forcing Gray to get into a verbal duel with her.
  • Damsel in Distress: She spends the majority of both Gray and Lillie's stories sealed in the Void as part of the pact she made to save Gray.
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: At the end of Lillie's story and beginning of Cif's, Lily has been freed from the void at the same age she was sealed, but is stuck in modern times.
  • Fusion Dance: Lily and Gray/Lilith in the DIS Ending path fuse together to give chase to Lev after they attempt to take full control of DIS and destroy all life on Earth.
  • Hates Baths: Considering Gray telling her to take a bath in their play fight tends to do considerable damage to her, she doesn't like bathing.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: When Johann attempted to kill either her or Gray in order to fulfill his Deal with the Devil, Lily made a deal of her own to save Gray's life.
  • Human Sacrifice: Johann planned to sacrifice her in order to gain power, but she finds a way to avert that fate.
  • Identical Stranger: ZERO Judge over the course of the game takes an interest in Lily. When confronted by Cif about it, she just says Lily "Reminds her of someone". One possibility is Lily has a remarkable resemblance to Despair from ZeroRanger and that she might be her Heel–Face Reincarnation.
  • The Pig-Pen: Lily is notorious in the castle for her... 'regal' scent.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: She may seem like a dainty little princess, but her guards are scared of her tantrums for good reason with several on the floor in pain. She's even strong enough to Dope Slap Add by bonking her on the forehead with a chop and giving her pause! Even more impressive if Add is in Gray's body as Gray is also an incredibly strong fighter!
  • Promoted to Playable: Lily lacks her own Brand and spends the majority of Gray and Lillie's modes as a Damsel in Distress, but is playable for the final sequence of the DIS Ending.
  • Rebellious Princess: Foul-mouthed, recalcitrant, and utterly disdainful toward expectations placed upon her as heir to the throne. In one of Gray's earlier memory sequences, she proudly commends herself on another potential suitor 'crossed off the list' (read: driven away).
  • Trash of the Titans: Her room is an absolute mess in the first dream sequence.

NPCs trapped in the Void

    The Nun
A sister who has fallen into the Void after discovering a hole in her church's garden.
  • Crisis of Faith: If you repeatedly talk to her after rescuing her, she'll ask Gray if she believes in God. She goes about how one of the other members of the clergy devoutly serves Him but isn't so sure herself, despite being a nun.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Not her, but one of her superiors she talks about; a nun who goes by the name of Sister Ballbuster.
  • Nun Too Holy: Her short credits cutscene if rescued on the way to the true ending reveals that she smokes.

    The Bride
A runaway bride frightened into hiding after seeing Tail.
  • Glamour Failure: Because she did not love her fianceé genuinely, when she met Tail, she saw the Void Lord as her true self. This caused her to run in terror in fear of being eaten.
  • Nervous Wreck: Her fear causes her to be unable to think rationally and is very easy to fail her conditions for the ending sequence from being unable to calm down. Bumping into her, not giving her enough space and pestering her too frequently will cause her to shut Gray out completely.

    The Treasure Hunter
A nimble collector of treasures who has been taking locust idols ahead of Gray.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: When cornered, she has no qualms about giving the staff back in exchange for Gray sparing her life.
  • Graceful Loser: When she runs into a dead end, she gladly returns the staff. Should the player spare her, she's quite friendly and understands the staff stays with Gray since she can get it to work, even letting the lady-in-waiting have a share of locusts in the void.
  • Karmic Death: For all her trouble in tricking Gray and stealing the Void Rod, Gray simply pushes her into a Bottomless Pit behind her in order to move on, killing her.
  • Lovable Rogue: Troublemaker she may be, she at least presents herself as friendly enough that she still tries to strike up conversation after surrendering the staff back to Gray.
  • Schmuck Bait: She asks Gray if she can look at the Void Rod, which clearly rides on the player expecting that something bad will happen if they hand it over, but cannot help but see what happens. That "what happens" is that she steals the rod and you have to chase her down several floors without that rod to help you navigate.

    The Bandit
A ruffian Gray encounters on the way to introduce Lily to Johann.
  • Bullying a Dragon: The bandit goes and sets a trap for Lily, not knowing she's under the protection of Gray The Destroyer. This prompts him to freak out in the RPG boss fight and is easily defeated by her.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: Inverted, GRAY is the unbeatable boss and the RPG 'fight' is from his perspective!
  • Pose of Supplication: Upon seeing Lillie get into a fighting stance, the very same posture Gray took when fighting him and his goons, he instantly strips to his underwear, drops his sword and gets on his hands and knees to beg for mercy from her.

    The Kid
A troubled kid who is untrusting of Gray and Lillie, preferring to keep their distance.
  • Guide Dang It!: Most of the folks trapped in the Void can be saved rather easily without much effort, but the kid takes a bit more effort to rescue, requiring some knowledge of the game's mechanics to pull off properly. This isn't helped by the room having a bug or quirk that renders her *un-rescued* if you revisit the room during the same run.
  • Shmuck Bait: Keep pressing their buttons after they tell you to go away and the kid will eventually retaliate and push Gray/Lillie into the pit behind them, costing you a locust idol, and losing her "rescue" criteria.

    Ninnie
A terribly shy girl who is good at hiding. Lillie can take on a quest to escort her deeper into the Void.
  • Crush Blush: During the Escort Mission, she frequently blushes from Lillie's confidence and bravery, wanting to be as tough as her at the end of it. Unfortunately...
  • Failure Is the Only Option: No matter how you approach Ninnie, she doesn't get a happy ending. Doing her sidequest causes her to cross the Despair Event Horizon and turns into a void egg and ignoring her leaves her trapped in the void.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: She immediately starts crushing hard on Lillie the moment they meet and gets flustered when looking directly at her, calling her pretty. The pause screen even has them holding hands for the Escort Mission.
  • Escort Mission: Her sidequest involves making a safe path for her to reach the stairs as she cheers you on. Unlike most examples, Ninnie is only in danger of you not creating a stable path for her to cross to the stairs, putting her at risk of you abandoning her(She'll helpfully start sweating bullets if there's no clear path to the exit).
  • Shrinking Violet: She is a cripplingly shy lady who has a bad stutter and no self-confidence when talking with Lillie on how to defend herself.

    The Old Man
An aged man of dignified air, he bears an intense aura that intimidates even Lillie.
  • History Repeats: When he agitates Lillie enough that she threatens to rough him up, he notices she has the exact same fighting stance as Gray, his daughter's protector. The sheer absurdity of meeting someone following in her footsteps in the depths of the Void reduces him to laughter.
  • King Incognito: It is very heavily implied that the old man is actually Lily's father, the King. Especially since he recognized Gray's fighting style in Lilith, given that's exactly the reason he appointed her as lady-in-waiting for Lily.

Void Lords

    As a whole
  • Always Female: The Void Lords collectively refer to each other as their sisters with them either using she/her or at the most different they/them as pronouns.
  • Ancient Astronauts: The void they rule over is not actually a cursed labyrinth, but an ancient research facility.
  • Demon Lords and Archdevils: Their names are shortened versions of demonic figures in the Ars Goetia and The Bible.
  • God Guise: When appearing before Gray, Lily, and Johann on the day of the wedding, Gray asks if they're demons, and is told that while they're not literally demonic in origin their powers and origins are so vastly incomprehensible to mortals that they've adopted the moniker.
  • Horned Humanoid: All of the Void Lords have at least one prominent horn on their head, which helps feed into the belief that they're demonic in nature.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: Each of the Void Lords not counting Add have a personality trait that is attributed to a sin.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: They can take on (at least) three forms: a humanoid woman, a larva based on an animal or a giant demon.

    Add
  • Animal Motifs: Locusts, as the super-suit when fused with Lily is based on one.
  • Big Damn Heroes: The moment Lilith turns into a void egg and is about to be devoured by Bee, Add manifests from her scepter to teleport Bee away before undoing Lilith's transformation.
  • Big Good: Overall is the most benevolent force in the game. Even after Gray dies, she still rescues Lilith from Bee as well as awakening in Gray or possessing Lilith in the DIS Ending.
  • Living Shadow: Her familiars, the Shades, take the form of silhouettes of her that must be protected from harm.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Most of the conflict happens because Add has a really bad habit of not explaining her plans thoroughly enough and leaving her sisters in the dark. This lack of communication causes several of them to question her decisions or outright defect.
    • This is later revealed to be invoked as Lev has been conspiring against her from the start and couldn't spill a single shred of info lest Lev get knowledge of it.
  • Symbiotic Possession: In Lilith's version of the DIS ending path, Add takes over her body to stand up to Lev and stop her from accessing DIS's true power.
  • Walking Spoiler: Gray being revealed as a reincarnated, amnesiac Add in the DIS route is a major turning point in how the story is pieced together.

    Eus
  • Animal Motifs: Snakes, with Tail's true face taking the form of one when not reflecting one's desired person. Her familiars, the Leeches, are serpentine in shape.
  • Appearance Is in the Eye of the Beholder: Tail is able to take on the form of who someone desires most, such as the Queen when talking to Gray. If they have no such lustful desires, their true form is revealed.
  • Lust: Their sin. Eus, and by extension their subordinate Tail, can transform to replicate the appearance of the one desired most by the one conversing with them, such as Gray seeing Lily's mother, the Queen. Lilith, Cif and the NPC bride see Tail's true form because they do not have someone they have a longing for.
  • She Knows Too Much: She was on Bee's hit list for being a tattler, but fortunately for her, Gray kills Tail for her.

    Bee
ZERO Defense of the Void Court. Bee is a bubbly demon who is almost always smiling, but has an air of malice hidden behind that smile.
  • Animal Motifs: Flies. She's not named after Beelzebub for nothing.
  • Baddie Flattery:
    • If Gray has a lengthy conversation with Tail and ends up killing her after, Bee will compliment how cold of an action it was and thanking you for saving her the trouble of offing Tail herself.
    • If Gray continuously attacks her in the rpg fight without ever selecting any other action, Gray will actually be able to hurt her. This act deeply impresses Bee in a unique set of dialogue after, saying no human has ever managed to hit her before.
  • Big Bad: Of Lilith Mode. Bee seems to have a powerful desire to torment and break the young woman into falling into despair for a chance to eat her, even going as far as to invade her Dream Sequence to show that nowhere is safe from her.
  • Big Eater: Her sin. She loves to eat locust idols and apparently engorges on them, according to Cif. Not only that, she loves to eat humans turned into void eggs, spending the entirety of Lilith Mode trying to break the young woman into turning into a Void Egg so Bee can devour her.
  • Boss Arena Urgency: In her boss fight inside DIS, take too long in hitting her and she will target you 3 times and strike lightning at you, destroying tiles where you were, as well as if she is struck. It's very likely to run out of room very quickly and get yourself trapped.
  • Crying a River: During Cif's ending, Bee is so distraught that it causes Cif to open an umbrella to deflect the tears flying her way.
  • Cute and Psycho: Bee is a very cheerful Void Lord but this does not hide the fact that she gets quite aggressive to humans and preys on the ones that turn into void eggs. In the ZERO Court trials, she's quite friendly to her client, genuinely trying to defend their actions and spending her time teasing her sister instead.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Becomes subject to this if the DIS route is taken via Lillie, as she dies unceremoniously by the hands of the girl she tried to eat.
  • Expy: Bee, with her longer hair, cheery attitude, and relationship with her sister Cif, bears a heavy resemblance to Mido, who piloted the Type-B fighter, Rybb. After beating Cif's route, the ending graphic has her take the place of Mido in the ZeroRanger third anniversary artwork, and the Sound Test code 28-09 has Bee wearing the same suit.
  • Fan Disservice: Her demon form is a giant wingless fly with her naked body fused on top of it, while retaining the Nightmare Face.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: In Gray Mode, when Johann sics her on you, any attack sent her way will reflect damage back to you. If you wait too long, she will do over a thousand damage, instantly ending the fight. As this is a flashback, and Bee is alive and well in the present, the battle outcome is to be expected with Gray's loss.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Bee's other favorite meal is humans who have given up hope and have turned into helpless void eggs. Her end goal in Lilith Mode is to break Lillie into crossing the Despair Event Horizon and eat her.
  • Jump Scare: Bee loves doing this, whether it's leaning on the text box and getting uncomfortably close to the screen with a scary face, or suddenly scaring the player if Lillie tries to dream again at one of the later birch trees.
  • One to Million to One: When dealt damage in her DIS boss fight, she will separate into a swarm of flies, rush at you and then reform as her monstrous self.
  • Nightmare Face: When she gets aggressive and excited, she pulls off a hell of a look, leaning on the text box and staring right at the player with empty eye sockets and an inhuman smile.
  • Stealth Mentor: In a weird way. A lot of the trinkets you initially find will have an additional letter written inside the treasure chests. They give insight on what to use them for and usually end with "don't tell my sisters" with the letter signed by Bee herself. She may possibly know that Gray is a reincarnation of Add.

    Mon

  • Animal Motifs: Millipedes, as shown in their larval and demon forms.
  • Bifauxnen: They have a rather androgynous appearance, owing to their rather sharp facial structure.
  • Big Bad: Of Cif Mode, being the leading trail she needs to follow that could help her find Bee and being her only boss fight.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: As a boss fight in Cif's story, they transform into a giant millipede with two faces: one giant head at the front that can emit a giant laser, and a vulnerable humanoid face on their tail that will petrify Cif if she's in its sight.
  • The Dragon: Lev's second-in-command for their plot to usurp Add and take over DIS. Doesn't give them any special protections, unfortunately.
  • Friendly Enemy: To Gray and Lillie, Mon will appear on certain floors if you have over a certain amount of locusts. If you accept their offer and trade them all of your held locusts, they will give you tips on how to find secret passages that skip several floors.
  • Greed: Their sin. Mon selfishly collects locust idols and will barter for them with Gray and Lillie should they be carrying an abundance. In the deepest section of their hideaway, there are over dozens of treasure chests full of idols they've collected.
  • Invisibility: In Cif mode, once Cif realizes Mon's in DIS with her and starts trailing them, they're invisible save for a trail of footprints showing which pits they're falling down on purpose to reach their goal. Eventually, Cif catches up, and uses her sword to slash the prints in order to force them out of hiding.
  • Leitmotif: No Refunds, a strange track that plays every time they are on screen, ready to make a deal with you.
  • Midas Touch / Taken for Granite: Just like their signature statues, if their face on the back of their centipede form's tail is in line of sight with Cif, it will fire a beam that will turn her to gold. One of the chatty eggs you can encounter in the fourth zone helpfully mentions this is what the talisman on their forehead is preventing.
  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: After putting in the effort to betray their sisters and revive Lev, the first thing Lev does is vaporize Mon with a bolt of lightning.
  • Smug Snake: When finally confronted by Cif and nearly beheaded by her sword, they still don't drop their attitude and exude an air of confidence at all times. Especially right before transforming into their monstrous form, Mon outright refers to Cif as a greenhorn despite Cif getting them to spill some vital info that Lev is still alive and scheming.
  • The Starscream: Eventually it's revealed that Mon has been collecting locusts to revive Lev's body and have them take over DIS from her sisters.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: After taking damage once in their boss fight with Cif, Mon will begin to drop explosives behind them that eventually explode in a Bomberman-style + shape. They can be destroyed with Cif's sword, but if they are primed and ready to explode, slashing it will simply detonate it early right in your face.

    Tan
  • Flat Character: Unfortunately only gets limited lore from the void eggs and is too mad to converse when met, only serving as a boss fight.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Their sin. Despite being quite nice before the war within DIS, they are violently protective of their privacy to the point that Add had to strike them down. Even Gray/Lillie removing the sword does nothing but invoke their rage and immediately initiates a boss fight.

    Gor
A large, disembodied head blocking the way deep in the Void. She is a dour demon who seems tired of her lot in life.
  • Catchphrase: "How bothersome..." tends to be her reaction to anything that requires some form of effort from her.
  • Death Seeker
  • The Eeyore: Gor is a very crestfallen demon who just wants to find a way out of her existence, having been separated from her body and just being an immobile head. This completely flips on its head the moment she sees Add's sword and becomes legitimately happy and excited at the prospect of being struck down and wonders what the afterlife is like.
  • I Cannot Self-Terminate: In her current state, she is unable to end her own life and pleads with Gray/Lillie to strike her down, should they be in possession of the Void Sword.
  • Jump Scare: Don't pause the game in the white void when her body is on screen.
  • Mercy Kill: Gor just has had enough of living and begs Gray or Lillie to literally put her to the sword, as Add's sword seems to be the only thing that can truly kill her.
    • If certain conditions are met, Bee will move Gor to a new location, which horribly disfigures her into a strange cube-like shape. The moment Gray finds her like this, she immediately strikes Gor down on instinct, wondering why she did that but the implications are straightforward enough that Add acted through Gray's body for that moment.
  • One-Hit Kill: Not her herself, but her body wandering the deepest sections of the Void. Coming into contact with it will crash the game and instantly close the window. Her body will also instantly kill any enemy it contacts.
  • She Knows Too Much: If you exhaust Gor's entire dialogue and go fetch the Void Sword, Bee will make Gor disappear for coughing up too much information to Gray.
  • Sloth: Her sin. Her severe depression plagues her with apathy and no motivation to do anything but sleep and eventually await a way to die.

    Lev

  • Animal Motifs: Bats and/or sea angels.
  • Antagonistic Offspring: Lev has nothing but contempt for Add thanks to her jealousy of humanity, the beings Add takes much interest in.
  • Bullet Hell: Their final fight can have some bullet types that make dodging tight and difficult, especially in tandem with others.
  • Deal with the Devil: Should you run out of locusts and perish, a little bat (later revealed to be Lev themself) will ask if you want to return to the world of the living and should you accept, they will offer a fruit for you to eat. The fruit, while doing exactly what they promised, is also poisonous and eats away at your resolve, making Gray completely lose her way and force her to start over. Lilith has her own problems and is under the torment of another Void Lord, leaving her exempt from this problem.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: Lev is completely naked when introduced and is no less terrifying because of it, allowing the player to get a good look at their core and the veins coming off of it.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Is ultimately the final threat of the game, striking down Mon, ZERO Judge and attempts to kill Gray/Lilith and eventually Lily before deciding the entire human race needs to go.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Their sin. Their low opinion on humans stems from Add's adoration of them and wonders what makes them more special than their sisters. This eventually drives Lev mad to where they decide eradicating the humans is the best course of action in the DIS Ending path.
  • No Mouth: Lev lacks a mouth to vocalize with, as they usually transmit thoughts to their sisters via their horns. This causes a problem as they are incapable of communicating with Gray/Lilith due to their lack of horns until they steal part of ZERO Judge's helmet and speak through that.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Lev is violently uncaring of anyone they meet. Strangers like Gray and Lillie, bystanders like Lily, even their own like Add and Mon. Lev will not hesitate to strike down anyone who so much as implies they will be in their way.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: When about to strike someone down, they tend to precede with a "Let me say two things." followed by "Thank you. And die.". Mon knows exactly what is about to happen when Lev addresses them with this and promptly freaks out before being killed.
  • Puny Earthlings: Lev has an extremely low opinion of humans, referring to them as worthless sacks of flesh and expressing complete disbelief that DIS chose a "naked monkey" as its inheritor instead of them.
  • One-Winged Angel: Upon being fought, they fuse with the DIS mech to take on the Heavenly Usurper form, and at the end of Stage 0, fuse with the comet to become a giant statue with tentacles holding crystal balls.
  • The Starscream: Lev since their conception has conspired against their mother Add thanks to the latter's love and interest in humanity. To the point that Add had to migrate her staff's true form in a sealed chamber rather than Lev's brand room like her other treasures.
  • True Final Boss: They're only fought in the DIS Ending.
  • Unexpected Shmup Level: We'd say unexpected but seeing as who made this game, it was going to sneak in somewhere.
  • Walking Spoiler: Every single thing you learn about Lev, outside of the chatty Void Eggs, is only discovered at the very end of the DIS route, which itself is tucked away behind a very specific sequence of events.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Invokes this on their sister Mon, after helpfully resurrecting her with the collected locusts. The moment Mon appears, Lev smites her with a bolt of lightning as thanks.

Others

    Johann
A lord with the reputation of an angel, who arranges to wed Lily to fulfill his dark ambitions.
  • Evil All Along: Despite his handsome appearance and noble reputation, he's actually a Misanthrope Supreme who was sickened by the wars he fought in as a knight and made a Deal with the Devil for the power he needed to survive and take over the world.
  • Expy: Of Griffith from Berserk. Both are seemingly good, white-haired and handsome individuals who help the protagonist before eventually being revealed to have consorted with demons and aimed to make the protagonist's life a living hell. In this case, sacrificing Lily to the Void Court.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: He made a deal with the Void Lords in order to gain unparalleled power, but to keep that power, he had to reach a Human Sacrifice quota by a specific deadline. When Lily, his intended final sacrifice, makes a deal of her own to protect Gray's life, Johann's contract is broken and he's left powerless before a very irate Gray.
  • Undignified Death: After having his powers revoked by the Void Lords and left to deal with Gray's wrath, Johann tries pleading for mercy before Gray's fist connects with his face, killing him in one blow and leaving him bleeding out on the ground while Gray goes after the Void Lords.

    Freya
A fashion designer from the modern era, who comes across Gray holding an infant after her trek through the Void and takes them in.
  • The Cobbler's Children Have No Shoes: Stated by Gray during Lillie's memory of a Halloween when Freya just bought her kid a costume from the store instead of tailoring one herself like Gray did with Lillie's magical girl outfit.

    Dr. Lily
A scientist from an unknown era that was attempting to uncover the purpose of DIS and the ZERO Judge, only to be interrupted by a foreign threat.
  • Identical Stranger: To Lev, sharing the same hairstyle.
  • Significant Name Overlap: The impression she made on ZERO Judge is a possible reason why she takes such an invested interest in the other Lily whose story involves the Void.

    ZERO Judge
A mysterious stranger who originally appears as the judge of the Void Court, and acts as an agent of the Void alongside Bee and Cif. She is heavily implied to be Erasure from System Erasure's previous game ZeroRanger.
  • Affably Evil: Has to play this role as a member of the Void Court when interacting with humans. Even when doing her job, she's quite polite when talking to Lily as she strikes a deal with them.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: More or less just doing her job as judge and off the job, she's approachable and kind. Sometimes even on the job she is quite friendly, giving a hearty laugh when Lillie fights her way through the Void just to make the humble request of making peace with Gray.
  • There Was a Door: On rare occasions during Cif Mode's opening scene, when about to depart through the door she makes, she may begin to spin and fly through the ceiling instead. In ZeroRanger, her monitor form makes her exit like this at the start of 2-4.
  • Walking Spoiler: Let's be real here, the fact that she's not with the other Void Lords should probably tip you off that something's up about her.
