Main Mario series Characters

The main characters of the original Super Mario series.

    Yoshi

Yoshi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yoshi_wiki_render_2021.png
"Word up, Yoshisaur Munchakoopas is my name and Imma tell you how I beat the IRS at their own game."
First appearance: "Dreams" (2011)
Voiced by: Kazumi Totaka

A green dinosaur who often resides on the roof of the castle. He can be a nice guy... or a wallet thief/drug dealer, unless he's the one being drugged, that is. His personality seems to wildly vary with every episode he shows up in.

    Wario

Wario

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wario_wiki_render_2021.png
"Buy my stuff!"
First appearance: 'Darkness Takes Over' (2011)
Voiced by: Charles Martinet, Chris Patstone (War of the Fat Italians 2018)

Mario's greedy arch-rival who starred in "The Wacky Wario Bros." episodes for a while alongside Waluigi. He loves money.

  • Art Evolution: He was originally a simple palette swap of Mario. Starting from The Wacky Wario Bros.: The Welcome Invitation, he now uses his model from Mario Party 3, along with Waluigi.
  • The Bus Came Back: He and Waluigi finally return in "A Day In The Life Of Everyone" after a long absence.
  • Death by Materialism: How he (fittingly) meets his end in "The Mario Channel: MARIO'S CHALLENGE". The Wheel is about to choose "Survive being pushed off a plane" which Wario manipulates into landing on "Survive getting free money". He celebrates, thinking he's won, then the challenge begins and Wario is rapidly blasted by a coin launcher, pinning him against the wall.
  • The Ditz: To the point where he might be as, if not more, retarded as Mario.
  • Drunk with Power: After stealing a Power Glove in "SMG4: The Super Dudes", Wario goes on a rampage- creating an army of Wario-nosed minions to fight for him. It got so bad that Bowser found himself allying with Mario to stop him.
  • Enemy Mine: He and Waluigi are shown to be working with Donkey Kong to rob banks in "Wild, Wild Mario".
  • Fat and Skinny: The fat to Waluigi's Skinny.
  • Fat Bastard: A greedy one at that. Though he really isn't a villain, he just doesn't like Mario or his crew that much. Of course, there are episodes where he goes... too far with his dislike of Mario.
  • Greed: Oh GOD yes.
  • Hidden Depths: He loves his brother deeply, though he rarely shows it.
  • Money Fetish: Could you really call him Wario otherwise?
  • Morality Pet: To Waluigi post-WOTFI 2018. Whenever he goes into a rage, Wario calms him down and comforts him.
  • Mushroom Samba: In "High School Mario," he snorts the baking-soda he's supposed to use for his volcano project — and hallucinates himself flying around Rainbow Road. Cue Big "OMG!".
  • Out of Focus: Out of all the original major Mario characters, he and Waluigi receive the least spotlight as of 2019, not even having a single speaking role from "The Most Important Thing" to "A Day in the Life of Everyone".
  • Put on a Bus: Was said to have disappeared since Waluigi became a full-on villain and didn't appear until "Mario The Scam Artist". Played with in that Mario the Scam Artist takes place in between "Mario SAW" and "The Mario Carnival", with Wario's absence being justified as him leaving to try and find Waluigi.
  • Reality Warper: Twice - in "Stupid Mario Maker" (with an enchanted Super Mario Maker) and "The Super Dudes" (with an enchanted Power Glove note ). And naturally, Wario + Omnipotence = World Gone Mad for everyone else.
  • Related in the Adaptation: He and Waluigi are brothers in the SMG4 canon.
  • Suddenly Voiced: In the two "MarioTube" bloopers and "Stupid Mario Rabbids".
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Some late 2017 bloopers show Wario as a full-on villain, such as "Wild, Wild Mario" and "Christmas 2017: The XMAS Discovery". It would continue on into 2018 with bloopers such as "SMG4: The Super Dudes". However...
  • Took a Level in Kindness: At the end of Mario the Scam Artist, Wario has a Heel Realization and leaves to seek out Waluigi to make amends for his mistreatment of him. After the 2018 WOTFI, he does reconcile with Waluigi, bringing the Waluigi Arc to an end.

    Waluigi

Waluigi

Click here to see his "Rambo" form.
First appearance: 'Mario at the Olympic Games' (2011)
Voiced by:: Charles Martinet, Chris Patstone (War of the Fat Italians 2018), Luke (Mario SAW)

Wario's friend/brother. Also the arch-rival of Luigi who starred in "The Wacky Wario Bros." episodes alongside Wario. The main villain of the "Waluigi Arc".

  • Arc Villain: "Mario and the T-Pose Virus" establishes him as this for a series of episodes up until "War of the Fat Italians 2018".
  • Art Evolution: Same as Wario, Waluigi was originally a Palette Swap, but starting from "The Wacky Wario Bros.", he uses his Mario Party 3 model.
  • The Atoner: Judging by his reaction to SMG3 winning the "Most Outstanding Citizen" award for saving the world from him, he regrets all the atrocities he committed. Absolutely confirmed as of "The Most Important Thing", where he helps Bob discover that friends are the most important thing to him, albeit through a near-death experience.
Waluigi: Yeah, I figured after what happened with me... everyone could use a friend.
  • Battle Aura: He has a blue aura when using the Power of Rejection.
  • The Bus Came Back: Like Wario, Waluigi was absent from the series for a while during the 2018-2019 series, but eventually returned in "A Day In The Life Of Everyone".
  • Companion Cube: Waluigi's rubber duck.
  • A Day in the Limelight: "Stupid Mario Tennis Aces" and "Waluigi's Time".
  • Emotion Bomb: Waluigi can project his feelings of being rejected over and over again on to others via the Power of Rejection.
  • Enemy Mine: He and Wario are shown to be working with Donkey Kong to rob banks in "Wild, Wild Mario", and with SMG3 to steal internet in "Mad Mario".
  • Face–Heel Turn: Waluigi snaps from being denied entry into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a fighter in Waluigi's Time (where he was the "face" during the video) and establishes himself as an antagonist in the videos following after. He only goes back to being his normal self after Wario apologizes for mistreating him.
  • Fat and Skinny: The skinny to Wario's Fat.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: For many years of SMG4's canon, Waluigi was just your average guy that got into schemes with Wario. Then Mario and the T-Pose Virus happens.
  • The Generic Guy: Part of the reason that Master Hand refuses to put Waluigi in Smash is that there is nothing special about him. Until he discovers the Power of Rejection.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: His eyes glow blue as Walu Rambo.
  • Greed: Not as much compared to Wario, but he does show shades of this.
  • Hidden Depths: In Stupid Mario Tennis Aces, he convinces Jeeves to let Fishy Boopkins join a tennis tournament, even though Waluigi technically won. This is because he related Fishy's constant rejection to his own constant rejection from Super Smash Bros.. The two then go get ice cream.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Why Waluigi became an Arc Villain. He just wanted a special move.
  • Karma Houdini: Yes, Waluigi has been depowered and redeemed, but he still caused a lot of destruction in the Waluigi Arc. You would think that he should be held accountable for his actions. Said destruction is also hilariously glossed over, although you know SMG4. SMG3 even brings it up when Mario calls him out for turning the Mushroom Kingdom into a desert wasteland by stealing the internet
SMG3: "Pfft, so what? Just last month, Waluigi turned the kingdom into an infested apocalyptic nightmare!(Waluigi awkwardly scratches his head)Don't worry, you'll get over it."
  • Knight of Cerebus: Yes, it's Waluigi, so he's still Laughably Evil, as seen below. Yes, he did get better, but he is still the guy who ushered in the first of many arcs for the channel. For the majority of the Waluigi Arc, his actions are played dead seriously, although he does maintain a few comedic moments. Even after his arc finishes, the darker tone he brings in remains, with more arcs following after. Each one gets progressively darker than the last.
  • Laughably Evil: Even after becoming a legitimate threat after unlocking the Power of Rejection, he's still shown to have retained his goofy side in Mario SAW. There's also something silly about his rap battle in War of the Fat Italians 2018, and the challenges he makes Mario and SMG4 do.
  • Logical Weakness: The Power of Rejection draws from his feelings of being rejected many times. So if he is accepted by someone, the power fades away.
  • Not Good with Rejection: And how!
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: He starts out about as pathetic as any villain can be, but once he discovers the Power of Rejection, which grows the more people reject him, Waluigi carries out some truly dangerous schemes such as starting a Zombie Apocalypse and putting the Mario Bros. through a gauntlet of Death Traps, all so he can grow stronger the more people will reject him for his actions. This ends up making him one of the most dangerous villains in the series. Downplayed but still present after the Waluigi Arc, as he still gains super strength upon being rejected, usually using it to subject those who rejected him in the first place to Amusing Injuries.
  • Odd Friendship: With several characters, including Jeeves and Fishy Boopkins.
  • Oh, Crap!: In "WOTFI 2020", when Tari and SMG4 attacked him.
  • One-Winged Angel: When feeling strong rejection, Waluigi will turn into one thanks to The Power of Hate, his scepter granting him the ability to turn anyone into T-pose zombies by zapping them. Becomes Downplayed after his staff is destroyed, limiting him to super strength.
  • Out of Focus: Same as Wario, although he did have a brief taco stand gag in "Mario's Lemonade Stand".
  • The Power of Hate: Waluigi can call upon this to make others feel the pain of rejection he has suffered. Even after his Heel–Face Turn, he still accesses his Rambo form, which comes with super strength, upon being rejected.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: "WHAT IF...?" shows that he would have had to kill his brother if he had won in the Waluigi Arc, something that he greatly regrets afterward.
  • Related in the Adaptation: He and Wario are brothers in the SMG4 canon.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Seemed to share this dynamic with Meggy, as seen in Mario University and Stupid Mario Sports Mix. Over time though, this has lessened.
  • Stealth Mentor: Serves as one to Bob in "SMG4 Christmas 2018: The Most Important Thing".
  • Straight Gay:
    • In The Wacky Wario Bros.: Wario's Treasure Hunting Time, he was looking at photos of shirtless men at the Wario Bros. residence.
    • And at the end of Halloweegee special, he's seen sleeping with Weegee.
  • Superpower Lottery: The Power of Rejection gives him a variety of different powers including conjuration, levitation, shapeshifting and mind control among others.
  • Those Two Guys: With Wario.
  • Ungrateful Bastard:
    • The first thing Waluigi does once he discovers the Power of Rejection is pass the pain of his rejection onto Mario and Luigi. This might not sound so bad, but they both showed sympathy for him in his lowest point.
    • At the very end of Fishy Boopkins Plays VR Chat, Waluigi turns him into a T-Pose Zombie. Bear in mind that Boopkins believed in Waluigi after the latter defended and connected with the former in "Stupid Mario Tennis Aces".
  • Walking Spoiler: For his role as a very first Arc Villain.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: As an Arc Villain, he was as vile as can be. But it's hard not to feel sorry for him, since he's been rejected his entire life.
  • Zero-Approval Gambit: He deliberately makes himself the most hated person in the Mushroom Kingdom by starting the T-Pose virus epidemic so he can bring his Power of Rejection to full strength. When Mario remains the only person left who wants to be his friend (if only so he can get free food), Waluigi makes Mario reject him as well by putting him and Luigi through a Saw-style Death Trap.

Toads

    Ben

Ben

First appearance: 'Two Great Friends!' (2014)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ben_wiki_render_2021.png
A yellow Toad with the word "boobs" written all over his cap. He is X's mentally unstable "roommate."
  • Ax-Crazy:
    • He attempted to kill Toad in "Toadassass-ination" because Toad organized a Mario Kart 64 party without him, and threatened to kill Mario when he called him "Cute Yellow Boob Toad."
    • In "Pirate Plumbers", after finding out that Mario and Luigi accidentally flushed Mr. Squidge down the toilet, he appears with a chainsaw and throws it at Mario.
  • Berserk Button: Don't harm his pet Blooper, Mr. Squidge, whom he considers his wife. Or you will regret it.
  • The Bus Came Back: Made a brief cameo in "Super Mario Taxi".
  • Gratuitous Spanish: He speaks with a little bit of Spanish, using words like "amigo" and "señor".
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: He transforms into a merman after Fishy Boopkins gives him the ability to breathe underwater.

    Toadsworth

Toadsworth

First appearance: 'Toadsworth's How to - Princess' (2014)
Voiced by: Charles Martinet
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/85e7c5e6_a16d_4e8e_9f3a_f51db5983a5f.png
An old Toad who tries to keep Princess Peach from being kidnapped.
  • Art Evolution: He eventually got a newer model that uses Mario's movements as well as giving him more detail in his outfit.
  • Ax-Crazy: When pissed off sufficiently.
  • Butt-Monkey: As of 2019, Toadsworth seems to have a tendency to get run over when going shopping.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Can't tell whether or not Peach is awake or unconscious. Or the difference between Frankie and a crude replacement.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Tries to be this in New Year, New Mario to prevent Peach from being kidnapped. Not only does it not work, but Peach is so annoyed that she voluntarily gets herself kidnapped by Bowser.
  • Crossdresser: He dresses up like Peach in order to show her how a princess should act and then gets kidnapped by Bowser.
  • Dirty Cop: In "Wild Wild Mario" he's easily bribed to look the other way by the Wild Wahs gang when they rob the local bank.
Toadsworth:(after Wario throws money at him) Welp...looks like nothing's wrong here!
  • Dirty Old Man: For goodness' sakes, he taught Frankie to compliment a woman with "Send nudes!" (according to his reaction in "Mario's Dangerous Delivery")
  • The Dog Bites Back: In "Super Mario Taxi", Mario steals his taxi and locks him in the trunk. He breaks out near the end of the video and gets his revenge, throwing Mario out of his vehicle.
  • Ironic Echo: When Mario uses Toadsworth's painting as a toilet blocker, he tells him to "chill bro, it's just a painting." Toadsworth's response a few seconds later is to threaten Mario's spaghetti with the same fate, saying, "Chill bro, it's just a plate of spaghetti." They even use the same audio clips!
  • Made of Iron: In "Super Mario Taxi", and how. In the scene after he breaks out of the trunk, he survives getting thrown off the hood of the taxi and being run over, in order to grab onto the back of the car. He then somehow manages to hang on despite bleeding profusely and being pelted with miscellaneous objects by Mario (including a can of beans, Mountain Dew, a rubber duck and SMG4) in order to get his hands on Mario.
Toadsworth:(whispering) This is the part where you run away.
  • Parental Substitute: Again, he's technically not Peach's father, but nevertheless looks after her as a surrogate one. He attempts to influence her to be a "proper princess" (in the stereotypical snooty fancy way) and is frequently concerned for her safety, as in the official Mario canon.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Goes into one in "Stupid Mario Paint" when Mario stuffs his painting, The Mona Toadsworth, into the toilet.

    Toadette

Toadette

First appearance: 'The Toad, the Fat and the Ugly' (2015)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/toadette_wiki_render_2021.png
The only female Toad and Toad's love interest in "Retarded64: The Toad, the Fat and the Ugly". Unfortunately for Toad, she's very, very, VERY high-maintenance.
  • Art Evolution: Her model is the same improved model that Frankie uses, though designed to look like Toadette.
  • Awful Wedded Life: Downplayed, they are not married but her relationship with Toad otherwise has traces of this trope. In the most recent bloopers, she is full-on Yandere. Toad outright hates her.
  • Berserk Button: In "Mario vs. Sonic" she throws a temper tantrum when she thinks Toad is cheating on her. (It was actually Mario pranking her.)
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She can be as cute and adorable as her video game counterpart, but can also be very threatening when it comes to her relationship.
  • Character Catchphrase: "BUY ME MORE JEWELRY!"
  • Characterization Marches On: In her debut episode, she was a happy go lucky girl who wasn't even an adult. Nowadays, not only is she a fully grown woman, but she's also a completely psychotic Yandere who makes Toad's life more of a living hell than Mario ever did.
  • Fetishized Abuser
  • Retcon: Her debut episode had her mention she was 9 years old, leading to Toad getting arrested for pedophilia. Later episodes have ignored this and put her around the same age as Toad himself.
  • Self-Proclaimed Love Interest: She seems to be more into their relationship than Toad is.
  • Yandere: Yes. More apparent in the recent episodes.
  • Younger Than They Look: Her debut episode revealed her to be 9. This has since been retconned, however.

    Frankie

Frankie

First appearance: 'The Toad, the Fat and the Ugly' (2015)
Voiced by: Luke Lerdwichagul
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/frankie_wiki_render_2021.png
A Toad in "Retarded64: The Toad, the Fat and the Ugly" who is Toadette's other friend, and whom Toad and later Mario come to hate.
  • Art Evolution: Compared to Toad, Frankie uses a much more advanced model which more closely resembles those of Toads in the modern Mario titles.
  • Butt-Monkey: Frequently gets abused, especially in later videos. Considering who he is, he'd be pretty okay with it.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: In Ssenmodnar 11, Frankie attempts to ask Toadette a question but never finishes, very much to Toadette's frustration.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Is able to seriously maim people when provoked, such as pulling a knife on Knuckles and knocking out Toadsworth when thinking that the latter has come to molest him.
  • The Ditz: Frequently.
  • Dreadful Musician: As expected with Toads. Mario takes advantage of this by selling rocks for everyone to pelt him with.
  • Driven to Suicide: His entire character is this.
  • Leitmotif: "Goomba Village" from Paper Mario.
  • Lethally Stupid: He calls the ice-cream man during the battle between him and Toad, but eventually brings down Peach instead, who prompts to attack Mario and Toad after being called a bitch.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: It's casually revealed in "Mario's Dangerous Delivery" that Frankie is actually Toadsworth's grandson.
  • The Rival:
    • To Mario in terms of stupidity.
    • To Toad, at least in his debut appearance.
  • Smart Ball: In "Sonic the Derphog: Showdown of the idiots" he's smart enough to know how electric weights work and to organize a tournament.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Subverted, his idiocy and unpredictable behavior outweighs any nerdiness he has.
  • Suddenly Voiced: Luke gives him a voice in a quick gag in "Mario Games Be Like...", using basically the same voice he uses for Shroomy.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Oh, lord.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: His most preferred food seems to be one thing, and one thing only: muffins. Though he does eat ice cream as shown in Mario's Dangerous Delivery.
  • Unexplained Recovery: He is once a victim to SMG3's massacre as a test subject. By "Stupid Mario 3D All-Stars", he is shown somehow alive with no explaination of how he escaped the Graveyard. And just in case you thought it could have been any Toad with glasses, he's addressed by name in the 2021 Christmas special. Luke's explanation for this in the 5 million subscriber livestream is that he's a god... which obviously doesn't make any sense, and was probably more of a joke than anything.

    Ben's Mother

Ben's Mother

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bensmom.PNG
First appearance: "Seaside Stupidity Part 2" (2016)
Voiced by: Luke

Exactly What It Says on the Tin. She appears in the "Seaside Stupidity" two-parter along with her son. Her color code was previously used when SMG4 made Toad cross-dress to show he had a girlfriend in a 2015 QnA video.

  • Classy Cane: Uses one of these to walk after fighting Teletubbies.
  • Never Mess with Granny: She may be old, but when she opens a can of whoop-ass on those Teletubbies, boy does she open a can of whoop-ass on 'em.
  • Reused Character Design: Uses the same design as Toad when SMG4 made him cross-dress to show he had a girlfriend in a 2015 QnA video.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: She is shown to have excellent fighting skills for an old lady, but eventually she ends up throwing out her back which puts her out of action.

    Captain Toad

Captain Toad

First appearance: 'Stupid Mario Galaxy' (2017)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/79712891_71c9_4d92_9901_1d1ff5cade73.png
The great Captain Toad himself who helps and protects anyone for he is the great Captain Toad.

Alternate Versions of Mario

    The Police

The Police

First appearance: 'Crime Time' (2011)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/6d61385e_6c6f_4436_9d3f_ca0affd88c27.png
Click here to see the original design
Mario recolors that serve as the residential cops of the Mushroom Kingdom. They also serve as Peach's enforcers, most notably during the Anime Arc as the Anime Secret Service - the A.S.S.
  • Art Evolution: Began as simple palette swaps of Mario but started to use custom Super Mario 64 models as of "The Mario Café".
  • Art Shift: Have appeared as GMod models, Combine soldiers and Grand Theft Auto policemen.
  • Ax-Crazy: For police, these guys are pretty bloodthirsty. During the Anime Arc, the A.S.S yeet (read: spawn a Kill Sat on) anyone smuggling anime.
  • Beyond the Impossible: One of them manages to drive his car through Enzo's basement, which is, well, underground.
  • The Bus Came Back: Their N64 counterparts did initially return in the 10 year anniversary, but they didn't actually have a role as policemen until "Mario Reacts To Nintendo Memes 3," where they catch Yoshi in France.
  • Character Catchphrase: STAHP RIGHT THERE!
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Make an ice cream van crash into their car? Arrest the kid riding it. Break out a single prisoner? They will send everything they have to arrest and/or kill you. Said prisoner (replaced with a fake) doesn't do anything but fall over? Call in the military. Most of SMG4: Mario's Dangerous Delivery is an example of this.
  • Hero Antagonist: Most, though not all of their appearances show them in a negative light, thanks to all the law-breaking that the main characters get into. The only times they're portrayed as heroes are in "Birthday Freakout", thanks to the Big Damn Heroes moment they pull off near the ending, and "The Visitor (2014)" where they arrest Enzo.
  • Out of Focus: They rarely appear in the later bloopers.
  • Outside Ride: Many of the cops are not afraid to ride on the hoods of the police cars.
  • Perpetual Expression: Every single policeman has the same "Angry" expression. Though there are rare instances where they are shown with other expressions. One example is in "The Wacky Wario bros: Money Mayhem" when Wario convinces one of the officers that he's adopted and he runs off crying.
  • Police Are Useless: They ultimately fail to capture Enzo a second time after he breaks out of prison, and can even be fooled by a piece of paper taped over a pair of binoculars. Only with a bit of help from SMG4 do they actually succeed.
    • Likewise, the A.S.S guarding the checkpoint are fooled utterly by Mario's anime disguise and let Boopkins through the checkpoint without finding the smuggled anime. This is at its worst during the warehouse standoff; they don't do anything to stop Boopkins and Mario's escape while Swagmaster is preoccupied.
    • Don't rely on them during The Purge. Luigi found that out the hard way.
  • Police Brutality: They are completely fine with using violence if it means getting the characters to obey the law.
  • Secret Police: As Peach's anti-anime force, the A.S.S.

    Dr. Mario

Dr. Mario

First appearance: 'WEEGEE Disease' (2011)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e41ae99d_0d36_4a49_92fc_daa875228600.png
"I'm just the doctor version of you! I don't know crap!"
The doctor version of Mario, according to himself.
  • Art Shift: Just like regular Mario, he transitions between a recolored hat-less Mario and Dr. Mario's model from Project M.
  • A Day in the Limelight: In "Retarded64: A Dose of Dr. Mario". Though it may probably be the actual Mario since he has a similar behavior in this blooper. He gets another in "Retarded64: An Overdose of Dr. Mario".
  • Depending on the Writer: He is either a completely separate character from Mario or he is Mario.
  • Kill It with Fire: Dr. Mario uses a flamethrower against Weird in the first segment of "An Overdose of Dr. Mario".
  • Mad Doctor: Ya think!?
  • More Dakka: He has a machine gun that rapidly fires Megavitamins.
  • Mushroom Samba:
    • In "Retarded64: A Dose of Dr. Mario", he swallows a Megavitamin and goes into a Samba, almost entirely made out of Dr. Mario commercials and the brentalfloss "Dr. Mario With Lyrics" song, all set to the tune of What is Love.
    • This is repeated early into "Retarded64: An Overdose of Dr. Mario", where he eats a whole barrel of Megavitamins and goes drunk, riding a speeding hospital bed on wheels down the hall.
  • Shout-Out: His theme song is brentalfloss' Dr. Mario WITH LYRICS.
  • Shoryuken: Uses a Megavitamin-powered one on Fever.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Take a guess. It's spaghetti.

    Mario Head

Mario Head

First appearance: 'Ssenmodnar 8' (2014)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mario_head_type.png
"Oh boy! This makes me so PISSED!"
The severed Mario head originating from Mario Teaches Typing 2. There are several different versions of him. One is a monster who was summoned by Mario using golden spaghetti. Another was an AI for the Mario Teaches Typing 2 program found on SMG4's computer.

    Hobo Mario

Hobo Mario

First appearance: 'Casino, Cards and Chaos' (2015)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/df71q75_acf9f4c6_82ed_4a88_9031_391826ee381d.png
"IIIIIIIIIII ain't got no PINGAS!"
An ugly and distorted Mario clone that first appears as a "prize" from a casino machine at the casino Mario and Luigi were at. He later makes cameos and recurring appearances in future bloopers. His full name is revealed in The Grand Mario Hotel.
  • Decoy Getaway: In A Theatre Mario, High School Mario and If Mario Was In... Splatoon 2, he is used as a decoy by Mario to escape an unwanted event.
  • Expy: His model is heavily based off that of a gnome parody of Mario from The Simpsons Game.
  • Fake Shemp: In The Grand Mario Hotel, all of his voice lines are those spoken by Herbert the Pervert.

Bootleg Mario / 7 Grand Dad

Bootleg Mario / 7 Grand Dad

First appearance: "THE BOOTLEG DIMENSION" (2017)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/876c5663_6298_4633_aa0f_1580f850ca87.png
FLEENSTONES!?
Yup, that Grand Dad, who Mario finds during a brief trip to the Bootleg Dimension and brings back into the Mushroom Kingdom. He later reappears in "The Grand Mario Hotel" as Bootleg Mario.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Despite his turn to villainy, it came from the feeling of loneliness and depression at being stuck in his shitty, glitchy dimension, and he clearly doesn't want to go back.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Unlike the SiIvaGunner Grand Dad, this Dad is just as malicious as his Vinesauce incarnation, if not more.
  • Big Bad: Of "SMG4: The Bootleg Dimension". He's also very antagonistic to Mario in "The Grand Mario Hotel" and openly attempts to attack him several times (though more so because Mario was screwing everything up).
  • Bottomless Bladder: Averted. When SMG3 releases him, he thanks him, saying that he "really needed to piss".
  • Brought Down to Badass: In "The Grand Mario Hotel", he lost his ability to turn things into bootlegs and glitches. That doesn't change that he can still pose an immense threat to Mario, nearly succeeding in killing him even.
  • Drunk with Power: Once he accidentally bootlegs Toad, he and Mario go around town and do it for fun... until he goes mad with power and starts wreaking havoc on Peach's castle.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Once his status as The Virus is revealed and his power to "glitch" anything he touches stops being played for comedy.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Well, face banishment with dignity, as after Mario seals him back in the Bootleg Dimension, despite having begged not to be sent back, calmly lets himself be pulled back into the portal.
  • Freudian Excuse: He's bitter that he and his fellow bootlegs have been ostracized, which motivates him to turn the entire Mushroom Kingdom into a bootleg version.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Of "SMG4: Welcome To The Kushroom Mingdom", since he created it for SMG3 after being released by him.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Summons the Floating Mario Head to kill/injure Mario in "The Grand Mario Hotel", but has it turned on him and send him through a wall.
  • Nightmare Face: He spends most of "The Grand Mario Hotel" with a hugely outstretched and widened mouth. The faces he makes after tying Mario up and attempting to attack him are very noteworthy.
  • Palette Swap: Unlike other characters that use Mario's appearance, Grand Dad instead opts for a modernized Mario instead of his Super Mario 64 look.
  • Reality Warper: After his Face–Heel Turn, he basically goes Discord on Mario's world.
  • Synthetic Voice Actor: His voice is made in the Speakonia text-to-speech program.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: In "The Grand Mario Hotel," he's become an accepted regular at the titular Inn Between the Worlds.
  • The Virus: Grand Dad can turn anything he touches with his hands into a horribly deformed "bootleg".

    Mango

Mango

First appearance: "The Tari Abnormality" (2019)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mango.PNG
I’ve been fighting for 56 years... I have forgotten what it is like to feel.
Super Smash Each Other In The Ass Bros.'s version of Mario.
  • Armour-Piercing Question: Tari asks why they need to fight, prompting him to stop and explain his life story, and his horrors and experience fighting.
  • Captain Ersatz: He's the game version of Mario, but with a differently pitched voice and different proportions.
  • Evil Counterpart: He's this to Mario. Tari's Armour-Piercing Question prompts him to reveal he's secretly not evil, just horribly misunderstood.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: After explaining his life story and his depression, Tari offers to help and assist him, but Mario merely shoots him dead.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Upon realising Mario lied to him about the naked spaghetti party, he pulls out a knife and charges at him and Tari.
  • Stylistic Suck: His model is an intentionally badly compressed version of Mario in a tuxedo.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Let's see... a knockoff version of Mario who antagonizes him and his friends, but is revealed to be deeply tormented inside, only to be received even more ridicule and be finished off, both by the real Mario... are we talking about Mango or are we talking about GRAND DAD?
  • Trademark Favourite Food: He enjoys spaghetti just as much as regular Mario, to the point that he helps the other Marios destroy the city searching for it.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Despite dying at the end of "The Tari Abnormality", he appears fine in "Stupid Mario 3D All-Stars".
  • Warmup Boss: He seems to be this, as he's the one Tari and Mario fight at the beginning of the game and is labelled by as his Boss Subtitle as the tutorial boss.

New Super Duper Mario Plus Ultra

New Super Duper Mario Plus Ultra

First appearance: "The Weegee Uprising" (2019)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/descendant.png
A descendant of Mario 500 years in a Bad Future where Weegee Dolls reign. He teams up with Luigi, Boopkins, and Shroomy, who were frozen for 500 years, to undo the Weegee Uprising.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: His ridiculous model and lengthy name aside, he's much smarter and tougher than he looks, thinking up a plan to sneak inside E. Gadd's lab that works, and holds his own against a mob of Weegee Dolls long enough for the time machine to bring back Luigi, Boopkins, and Shroomy and undo the Bad Future.
  • Crazy Enough to Work: His "Big-Brain Move" is to have Luigi pretend to be a Weegee doll and sneak into E. Gadd's lab, then use a walky-talky and Boopkins's horrid singing voice to lure every doll outside the room the time machine. It works, only failing because he didn't take into account how loud the power-up button would be.
  • Go Out with a Smile: Dies smiling, giving a thumbs up as Luigi, Boopkins, and Shroomy travel through time while being devoured by the Weegee dolls.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Guards the time machine that would send Luigi, Boopkins, and Shroomy back in time to stop the Weegee uprising. He's also erased from time when they kill the Defect Weegee doll.
  • Killed Off for Real: A double example. He dies protecting Luigi, Shroomy, and Boopkins from a swarm of Weegee dolls so that they can go back and fix everything. He, and the rest of the Bad Future, are then erased when the Defect Weegee doll dies.
  • Last of His Kind: By the time Luigi, Shroomy, and Boopkins are thawed out, he's the last person alive.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Shares his ancestor Mario's love of spaghetti. Lampshaded by Luigi.
Luigi: Yep, he's definitely related to Mario.
  • Oh, Crap!: Can only say "Oh" when the power-up button alerts the Weegee dolls.
  • One-Shot Character: Appears, and dies, in the same episode.
  • Overly Long Name: Natch.
  • Ret-Gone: His ultimate fate when the Bad Future is erased.

    Mario Cells

Mario Cells

First appearance: "Mario's Inside Story" (2020)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mario_cells.png
Little, Mario-shaped cells that keep the Italian plumber alive.
  • The Bus Came Back: They return nearly 3 years after their last appearance in "Mario Goes On A Diet" to gun down a broccoli that enters Mario’s body.
  • Creator Worship: In-universe. They worship Mario as a god, due to him feeding them.
  • Good Counterpart: To the Weegee dolls. Whereas the Weegee dolls rebelled against Luigi, the Mario Cells worship Mario as well as help Luigi and Saiko.
  • Irony: Cells usually attack foreign bodies to keep the body safe. Luigi manages to get them to worship them, literally worshiping "outsiders"
  • Killer Rabbit: They look cute, but as biology dictates, they're brutal to anything foreign. That includes a shrunken Saiko and Luigi, at first at least.
  • You No Take Candle: They have a slightly broken speech pattern.

    Mario's Brain

Mario's Brain

First appearance: "Mario's Inside Story"(2020)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/marios_brain.png
The brain of idiot Mario himself.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Looks like a complete dope. If properly motivated, it overkills the virus threatening the main body.
  • The Bus Came Back: Returns in "Video ends when Mario gets 1 IQ", which was released three years after its debut, albeit without its Mario hat and cigarette. Its limbs are also in a different shade of blue.
  • Cool Shades: Is always seen with shades.
  • My Brain Is Big: When Mario has at least 1 IQ, his brain is shown to expand to be the size of an average human.
  • Smoking Is Not Cool: Is always seen with a cigarette that looks absolutely disgusting.

    Mari0

Mari0

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mari0.png
No! Stop! I must ELIMINATE!

A dark copy of Mario created by Zero specifically for the final battle with him in the Genesis Arc.

Other Mario Characters - Major

Other Mario series characters who have appeared a lot and played more significant roles in the series.

    Lakitu

Lakitu

First appearance: "The Cake Is a Lie!" (2011)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/977c9178_ec71_4fb0_8616_3147a2cec093.png
The cameraman of the series and a nerd in Mario's eyes.
  • Deadpan Snarker: During his stint in the earliest episodes, he spent his time throwing snide, demeaning remarks at Mario.
  • Demoted to Extra: Was a main character during the very beginning of the series, but disappeared for a good while after "Scatman's Revenge". Upon returning in "Hotel Mario", he only shows up for a cameo every few months.
  • Jerkass: Depends on the episode.
  • Put on a Bus: Disappeared from the bloopers for a long time after "Scatman's Revenge".
    • The Bus Came Back: Reappeared in 2013's "Hotel Mario", then the 2013 Halloween special and 2014's "The Visitor". He also makes small token appearances in "Retard Karts 101", "SwagQuest", "Mario for Hire", "Mario in real life!?" and "Problematic Pipe Problems". Finally, after several years of nigh-irrelevance, he finally gets another major role in 2022's "Video Ends When Everyone Stops Watching".
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: According to Mario, nobody loves him. Since nobody has contradicted him on this or said otherwise, it might be true.

    Professor E. Gadd

Professor E. Gadd

First appearance: 'Time Travel Tells' (2011)
Voiced by: Kazumi Totaka
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/090adba9_934f_4bfe_9385_772ce0e64734.png
"Uncle Gadd can't cure crazy, honey."
One of the main characters of Luigi's Mansion and its sequel. He started off as a bit character in early videos but has become a recurring character as of 2014.
  • Every Man Has His Price: Got paid by SMG3 in Textures Not Found, the villain wanted clones of the Glitchy Gang and his own just in case they betrayed him. SMG3 paid him and the scientist got working, but when SMG3 is trapped in the Internet Graveyard, he only cared about his payment not being delivered and trashes the textureless clones.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: As a scientist, this is a given. He can transform an organic being into a robot in the span of a few minutes.
  • Kavorka Man: A recurring gag is him attracting a bunch of women despite looking like...well, look at the picture. He's even unable to deal with the Weegee Dolls because he was on an island conducting research with a bunch of girls.
  • Only Sane Man: E. Gadd is surprisingly lucid for a character in SMG4's videos.
    • Not So Above It All: He is the one responsible for setting the plot of "War on Beeg SMG4" in motion. Though turning Glitchy in his Beeg form with demon magic isn't what a sane scientist should do.
  • Put on a Bus: He disappeared for a long time after making appearances in "time travel tells" and "P-O-I-S-O-N-E-D computer".
    • The Bus Came Back: Reappeared in "ṩṩἔᾗмὄḋᾗᾄʀ 9 - Time travel edition" and has made frequent appearances since.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He was forced to make an army of Shrek clones by Zero to capture Mario. This lead to Axol getting possessed and ultimately 0's return.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: He's responsible for quite a few issues the main characters have to deal with. He threw away a portal to a dangerous bootleg dimension right in front of Mario and expected him not to touch it; he turned SMG4 into a Beeg SMG4, nearly destroying the world in the process; he made a bunch of textureless clones that attempted to kidnap and replace the main cast; and he was forced to make a Shrek army for Zero to capture Mario, which lead to a lot of suffering.

    Weegee

Weegee

First appearance: 'WEEGEE Disease' (2011)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/weegee_wiki_render_2021.png
A giant figure that made frequent appearances in the series until he had a major role in "War of the fat Italians 2014" where a fan suggests he battles Mario and SMG4 on Final Destination. He is eventually defeated, giving the duo a "Weegee Board" that allows him to enter the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • Affably Evil: Once he's summoned by Mario, he's shown to have taken a rather soft side and enjoys playing games, and even befriends Luigi and gives him piggyback rides (that end up leading to mass destruction). If you anger him though...
  • Berserk Button: If something ever is to happen that isn't in his favor, he will either transform the face of someone into a Weegee, or dump that person into his home universe.
  • One-Winged Angel: Weegee is Luigi's Mega Evolution, as shown in "WELCOME TO POKEMANS!".
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Growing Kaiju-size and rampaging through a large city is fun, according to him. Although actually he is giving a piggyback ride for Luigi (his recent friend) and has been destroying buildings on the ride.
  • Put on a Bus: Hasn't appeared in a blooper since 2017, presumably because modern videos focus on more modern memes.
    • The Bus Came Back: Reappears in If Mario was in Friday Night Funkin’ (albeit only his head) and then again as a cameo in SMG4 Goes Insane.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: He just wants to have a friend he can play with, even while he's destroying a city.

    Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong

First appearance: 'Mini Italians' (2011)
Voiced by: Takashi Nagasako
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7b39b268_e297_44a1_94a0_2c25335b0794.jpeg
The main character of his namesake franchise who gives the Wario Bros. a run for their money.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: The Donkey Kong used here didn't really have the same issue with Mario that his grandfather used to have. He simply stole Mario's toys because he wanted some himself or he kidnapped Pauline as a ploy to lead Mario to a party. Here, he simply kidnaps Pauline because he thinks she's hot.
  • All Men Are Perverts: Seeing Pauline causes his Dong Meter to go completely crazy, and he sounds like he's on the verge of a climax mere seconds later.
  • Art Shift: As with other SMG4 staples, he can't seem to decide if he wants to use his Mario Party model or his modern appearance.
  • Berserk Button: Whatever you do, don't touch his treasures. Or play Donkey Kong in front of his face.
  • Big "NO!": Gives one after watching his crew of Kongs lose a 4-on-1 against Mario Mario didn't kill them. He got cemented to the ground and the four unintentionally took each other out. He gets so into it he acidentally knocks Pauline off the structure.
  • The Cameo:
    • A few. He makes a really brief one in "The Wacky Wario Bros.: Money Mayhem" when Wario and Waluigi are dumped into the garbage truck at the beginning.
    • And another one in "Ssenmodnar 9".
  • The Dreaded: To the Wario Brothers, thanks to easily overpowering them.
  • Enemy Mine: He's shown working with Wario and Waluigi to rob banks in "Wild, Wild Mario".
  • Groin Attack: Meggy gives him two in "Wild, Wild Mario."
  • Interspecies Romance:
    • If "SMG4: Mario VS Donkey Kong" is anything to go by, he seems to have a... fascination with Pauline. As the episode progresses they do start to get along, until Mario sends DK into an Unstoppable Rage after deciding to play Donkey Kong with him.
    • "Mario's Fancy Dinner has him on a date with Pauline. By the end of the episode, he manages to successfully have a good date with her despite the rough start.
  • Off with His Head!: Mario decapitates him for contaminating the water hole with his feces.
  • New Job as the Plot Demands: He's been seen as a security guard (several times), an outlaw, and others. Sometimes he doesn't even have a job.
  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: Played for Laughs, he kidnaps Pauline just so he can show her his gifts for her, and she even tells Mario he isn't such a bad guy. Mario doesn't care. And then DK just kidnaps Pauline again.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: During his golfing tournament against the Wario Bros, he is paired with Yoshi. Claiming he can defeat them without any assistance, he lures Yoshi off a cliff with a melon.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Easily goes ape over bananas.

    Toast Guy

Toast Guy

First appearance: 'Retard Karts 101'note  (2013)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/toast_guy_wiki_render_2021.png
"YEAH TOAST!!!"
A toast-obsessed Shy Guy with butterfly wings who made regular appearances throughout the series until 2018.

    Bowser Jr.

Bowser Jr.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bowser_jr_wiki_render_2021.png
"You didn't say 'Happy Birthday' to me today."
Bowser's son.
  • Bratty Half-Pint
  • Gasshole: Uses farts to get Mario to do what he wants in "Son of a bowser.".
  • Hilariously Abusive Childhood: Bowser here isn't exactly as nice to his kids as he is in Mario canon. You could make a drinking game out of all the times he put Jr. in danger.
  • The Leader: Of the Koopalings in "Stupid Mario World" and "War on Smash Bros. Ultimate".
  • Leitmotif: Uses SuperMarioLogan's incarnation of Bowser Jr.'s theme, "Get Outside", in "Stupid Mario Sunshine".

    Francis (Unmarked Spoilers

Francis

First appearance: "AREA 64" (2017)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/francis_wiki_render_2021_5.png
An anime-obsessed chameleon originating from Super Paper Mario. He is the boss of the anime cartel and requires the assistance of SMG4, Bob, and Fishy Boopkins to escort Saiko to Japan, however, he makes Mario stay behind and make up all his lost money. He forms a temporary alliance with Mario, Axol, and co. to get anime unbanned in the Mushroom Kingdom. After the ban is finally lifted, Axol leaves back for Japan without drawing any waifus for Francis. In response, he and the anime cartel kidnap all of Inkopolis to harness their ink and power the Inkweaver they took from Axol, becoming the arc's Final Boss.
  • 0% Approval Rating: Almost no one in-universe even likes Francis due to his nature even before being a villain in The Anime Arc where he becomes more despicable towards others.
  • Adaptational Villainy: To an extent. While Francis was a major boss in Super Paper Mario, in that game he was shown to be an extremely awkward and inept otaku who ended up being sympathetic because he just wanted to have friends. This version of him is the head of the Mushroom Kingdom's version of The Mafia, as well as an unrepentant mass kidnapper and even a murderer.
  • Adaptational Wimp: In Super Paper Mario, he was the boss of Chapter 3, and can summon Meowbombs, turn invisible, blind you with a camera's flash and swallow you with his long tongue for some damage. Here, without the help of his minions or Ink Weaver, he really can't do anything.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Begs for his life once Axol takes back his Ink Weaver and he's cornered by Mario and the gang. Considering his role in the arc it's doubtful he would have gotten it, but he was especially unfortunate that it happened to be Saiko who got to him.
Francis: Hey hey, let's not do anything rash now. It was just one Octoling-
  • Ambition Is Evil: His ultimate goal is to create an island of waifus for himself.
  • Arc Villain: Played with. Although he serves as an antagonist at first and appears to take the role in "Mario's Illegal Operation", he and the Cartel end up working with the main characters to unban anime. Once anime is unbanned, he switches gears and is revealed to be the mastermind behind the Inkopolis kidnappings (and by extension, Meggy's, Desti's and Axol's abductions) in "Mario and the Experiment".
  • Archenemy: To Meggy Spletzer, as his murder of Desti traumatised her for the rest of the series.
  • Asshole Victim: It's a pretty safe bet you'll be cheering Saiko when she throws him in the Ink-Zuccer 9000 and leaves him to be violently killed by the machine and the imminent exploding island.
  • Bad Boss: Really, "Mario's Lemonade Stand" is the only time he's shown any semblance of compassion towards his subordinates. He's a major Jerkass to them almost every other time. He sends Mario on a "dangerous mission" and threatened to break his kneecaps if he didn't make up for the destroyed anime, and in the later half of the arc, he constantly calls the Anime replicas he controls "bakas", and he doesn't intend on sharing his waifus with the rest of the Anime Cartel, if we take Axol's word for it.
  • Bastard Understudy: Kidnaps Axol after the anime ban is lifted, in order to take control of Ink Weaver.
  • Berserk Button: Destroying his anime or calling it dumb.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: He's a dorky, nerdy and silly-looking chameleon who leads a group of otakus. He also instigated the plan to kidnap half of Inkopolis and manages to power up Ink Weaver to 70%, where Axol only manages 50% with the help of Meggy, and by himself only used 5%.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: With Peach in the Anime Arc, though Peach is more of an Anti-Villain.
  • Big Bad Slippage: From a mob boss that commanded an anime smuggling operation and allied with Mario and the group to unban it, to a mad scientist and mass kidnapper, willing to kill for his ambition.
  • Broken Pedestal:
    • Axol is one for him. Francis expresses disappointment that Axol doesn't use Ink Weaver for its full capabilities. Played with in that this makes Francis' much less sympathetic as Axol is unambiguously good while Francis is evil and his idea of what Ink Weaver should be used for is purely hedonistic and selfish.
    • He himself is this to Saiko, to some extent. At first, he listened to her without question, and she trusted him well enough. But when she finds out he was behind the mass kidnappings in Inkopolis, all bets are off. Though she oddly doesn't seem too shocked about the fact, and the feeling is mutual.
  • Butt-Monkey: Falls off the roof of Peach's Castle after grappling a turret in "Mario Saves Anime" and is attacked several times by Desti and Meggy in "Mario And The Experiment".
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: To the previous antagonists Arc Villain Waluigi, Bob and Princess Peach. For one he wasn’t a previously established character (except for a few cameos) being introduced in said arc. He’s also the most monstrous with his plan being full-on genocide of the inklings for his own personal gains and straight-up killing a character. He’s also the only antagonist who does not change their ways but instead dies.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Saiko stuffs him into the Ink-Zuccer 2000, which extracts ink from Inklings forcibly and in a way that can only be described as torture, and considering how the machine works, it most likely was slowly sucking out all of his bodily fluids. To make things worse for him, Saiko turns the machine to maximum power. His death is further ensured by the Anime Island blowing up.
  • Darker and Edgier: He's easily the most vile and twisted Arc Villain, and (until Zero came along) arguably the most dangerous. His plan means genocide and he actually killed another character. Oh, and he was first Arc Villain who didn't pull a Heel–Face Turn and died instead.
  • Death by Irony: He is personally disposed of in his own Ink-Zuccer by Saiko. The irony here is two-fold. Saiko was someone he listened to and went out of his way to protect before going mad with power, and the Ink-Zuccer was the terrible machine he used to extract ink from all the Inklings he captured.
  • Dirty Coward: He's presented as fearsome, but as the Anime Arc goes on it's clearly shown that he's pretty weak and only fearsome due to the men he commands. This is true even after he's revealed to be the mastermind behind the kidnappings, as once his army of false Sephiroths are defeated and Ink Weaver runs out of ink in "Final Hours", Francis immediately tries to run away.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: He uses the new version of Ink Zuccer on Meggy because she gave him "The Reason You Suck" Speech. And the entire second part of Anime Arc began just because Axol refused to draw him some anime waifus.
  • The Dreaded: The Anime Cartel is feared by almost everyone, to the point where not even someone as sweet as Tari wants anything to do with them.
  • Drunk on the Dark Side: After taking the powered-up Ink Weaver from Axol, he goes mad with power.
  • The Don: Of the Anime Cartel.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Makes minor appearances as early as both "AREA 64" note  and "Doki Doki Mario Club" note  before his appearance in "Mario's Illegal Operation".
  • Evil Counterpart: To Fishy Boopkins. They're both Otakus, but you don't see Boopkins running a mafia with an iron fist. Or kidnapping an entire city for his plan.
  • Evil Nerd: In Hi-technicaaaaaal spades. Just look at his tropes.
  • Eye Glasses: The frames of his glasses often change shape depending on his emotions, mimicking eyebrows. At one point, his glasses get knocked off, showing he has no actual eyes underneath.
  • Fake Shemp: Uses Weasleby's voice clips, and some Filthy Frank clips too.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He always speaks in a cheerful tone, even when revealing himself as the Inklings' mass kidnapper or killing Desti.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: He wears glasses and is... not a nice person, to say the least.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Of Sunset Paradise, as his murder of Desti caused the string of events which lead to both Shadow Meggy’s creation and Meggy getting a ticket to Port Aurora, kicking off the series.
  • Hate Sink: Francis, the boss of an already shady crime cartel, goes the extra mile by kidnapping Inklings to harness them of their ink to create a harem of anime girls for his hedonistic pleasure. He later sent a Sephiroth replica to impale Desti and laughs maniacally at the others mourning her. It becomes even more evident in one of SMG4's storytime videos, where Luke literally says he made Francis a villain simply because he couldn’t understand how people could like him.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: His ultimate fate at the end of the Anime Arc is getting stuffed into his own zucc machine, which he built to drain the ink of Inkopolis's citizens as part of his Evil Plan, and being left for dead.
  • Hypocrite: A pretty audacious example — In "Mario and the Experiment", he disparages Axol for using his song to convince Peach that anime isn't dangerous and should be unbanned, even though he is living, breathing proof that she wasn't exactly wrong to think so.]
  • Implausible Deniability: You honestly didn't believe Francis' claims that he "didn't mean no harm" after the causal murder of Desti...did you?
  • Insult Backfire: Meggy calls him "seriously messed up" and he takes it as a compliment.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Despite the threats to break his kneecaps, Francis' anger towards Mario for botching the operation of smuggling anime is justified, and he's within his rights to force him to make up the lost profits from the destroyed merchandise.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Francis was the intimidating leader of a crime cartel, yes, but he was mostly concerned with smuggling anime after it was wrongfully banned, and his forcing of Mario to make up the profits he lost was justified. In addition, he was willing to fight for what the heroes believed in, as before their temporary alliance, he was shown opposing the A.S.S. when they were cracking down even harder on the ban. Other good qualities include treating the rest of the cartel with respect, ending his rivalry with Jeeves, and doing everything he can to protect the one who is most affected by the ban, Saiko. With all of this in mind, one would think that Francis' relationship with the heroes would improve now that the ban is finally lifted. Instead, Francis becomes so infatuated with Axol's magic pen that he hatches a horrible evil plot to kidnap all of Inkopolis and drain them of all of their ink. Keep in mind that this would kill them, meaning Francis would be responsible for mass genocide. As a final kick in the teeth, he no longer treated the people he once cared for—the rest of the cartel and Saiko—the same way after going mad with power. He had no intention on sharing his waifus with the former, and he was willing to try to kill the latter for opposing him.
  • Karmic Death: After torturing millions of Inklings using his Ink Zuccers, it’s only fitting he meets his end because of one of said machines. What makes this even more ironic is the fact it’s Saiko, a living anime character, which he attempted to use the Inkling ink for, who puts him in the Zuccer.
  • Knight of Cerebus: He is the first villain to irrevocably kill off a recurring character (Desti), and his actions indirectly cause Meggy to turn into a human; both events are treated with serious gravitas.
  • Lack of Empathy: Waluigi, Bob, and Peach all redeemed themselves for what they did wrong. Francis on the other hand maintains his awful streak with Iosef levels of gusto.
  • Laughably Evil: Francis' over-the-top mannerisms and cartoonish personality make him entertainingly evil despite his presence as a feared mob boss and mass-kidnapper. A good example is him advertising The Ink Zuccer 2000, in the style of an informercial, complete with Wii Shop Channel music provided by his audio recorder.
  • Laughing Mad: Lets out Light's infamous psychotic laugh after his second Sephiroth replica stabs Desti.
  • Loony Fan: Due to his status as an Otaku he worships Axol, and the man has to draw a Krillin to blast him away to be rid of him. He also ends up kidnapping Axol and has no qualms in torturing him once he gets his hand on Ink Weaver.
  • Lust: His reason for the attempted genocide of the Inkling race was wanting to use their ink to create an island of waifus.
  • Mad Scientist: Turns into this by the second half of the Anime Arc, if Anime Island is anything to go by.
  • A Million Is a Statistic: It's heavily implied that his plan will result in the slaughter of at least several thousands of Inklings and Octolings for the small goal of having an island of sentient anime girls. And it's fairly obvious he cares not one bit.
  • Nerd Glasses: Which he's blind without.
  • Nerdy Inhaler: Requires one after giving an Evil Laugh. Oddly, he didn't need one after offing Desti.
  • Nightmare Face: He pulls these whenever he's shocked, angered, ecstatic - basically, most of the time he is on screen. In "Mario And The Experiment" his stretched faces and near-constant Slasher Smile could give Burgerpants a run for his money.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: At first he's shown to be a regular sociopathic manchild with some extra muscle and he's portrayed in a comedic light. As the Anime Arc goes on, it turns out he is a completely unhinged, surprisingly manipulative and incredibly dangerous man-child once he gets hold of Ink Weaver. Not to mention how he gets Desti Killed Off for Real, making him the one and only villain in the series to have permanently killed off a character.
  • Otaku: Taken to extreme levels.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: He's willing to work with Mario and the others to get anime unbanned since it also benefits him and his fellow otakus.
    • He personally aids Mario in sabotaging Jeeves and his milk cafe because less competition means more profit for the lemonade stand, which in turn would be collected as payment for all the merchandise Mario destroyed. Francis also gets personally invested when Jeeves insults anime.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Make no mistake. Francis is an utter doofus and loser even for otaku standards, but the fact remains that he is the leader of a cartel that takes itself quite seriously - even if it does just revolve around smuggling anime. He only gets worse as the Anime Arc goes on as he kidnaps Axol, Meggy, Desti and half of Inkopolis and seems very willing to sacrifice their lives in order to create powerful henchmen for his own nefarious purposes. The fact his master plan is to use the kidnapped Inklings' ink to supercharge the Ink Weaver enough just to create an entire island of sentient anime girls in a "waifu paradise" leaves no doubt to the depths of his selfishness.
  • Reptiles Are Abhorrent: Even more so than his Super Paper Mario counterpart.
  • The Sociopath: The second half of the Anime Arc shows that he has no empathy for anyone that gets hurt in his evil plan and just wants to satisfy his insatiable ego.
  • Squishy Wizard: At least in the second half of the Anime Arc. Francis routinely gets beaten in a fight whenever he loses control of the Ink Weaver and relies on it for his main forms of both offense and defense.
  • Tom the Dark Lord: Francis is a pretty normal name for a genocidal mass kidnapper who caused the first ever permanent death in the series. Justified, as he is a Ron the Death Eater situation where he keeps his original, not-so intimidating name.
  • Uncertain Doom: Downplayed, his doom was very likely. It's how he met it that's a question. He's last seen getting stuffed by Saiko into one of his own zucc machines before his island explodes with little to no chance of escaping in time. It's not known whether the machine killed him or the explosion did.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: As Meggy points out, Axol unbanned anime for him and his cartel, but Francis still imprisons him and takes his weaver, even going as far as to mock him, call him a disappointment, and say he doesn't deserve his power.
  • Verbal Tic: He calls people who anger him "bakas", which is Japanese for "jerks/idiots".
  • Viler New Villain: He's easily one of the most evil Arc Villains in SMG4 history, and his grand plan was revealed at a time where past arc villains were redeemed by the end, including the likes of Princess Peach and Desti earlier in his own arc.
  • Villainous Legacy: His murder of Desti and transforming Meggy into a human were both defining moments in Meggy's life.
  • Villains Want Mercy: Once he has nothing at his disposal, he immediately starts begging for his life. It goes as well as expected.
  • Walking Spoiler: Not for his role as boss of the Anime Cartel, but for being the Big Bad of the Anime Arc as a whole.
  • We Can Rule Together: He offers Saiko a chance to join his island of Waifus. She refuses, for obvious reasons.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Willing to kidnap Meggy and Desti and plans to use the former for a painful process to obtain her ink for Ink Weaver to use. He also kidnaps most of the Inkopolis residents, and the playable Inklings from Splatoon are only 14 years old.
    • It gets even worse than just playable Inklings and Octolings — as shown with the desolate Inkopolis in "Mario and the Inkling Disappearances", Capt'n Cuttlefish is viciously defending some much younger Inklings from potential abduction rounds. And with Francis boasting he kidnapped half of Inkopolis' populace, there's no doubt some of those abducted are Inkling children.
    • He fully goes into this trope at the end of "World War Mario", where he creates a second Sephiroth replica that stabs Desti through the back. He then laughs like a psychopath while all the other characters stare in horror.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: Initially, he just wanted anime unbanned like Mario and his friends, but witnessing Ink Weaver's powers and the power-up that Inkling ink gives to Ink Weaver makes him switch gears and aim bigger for his ultimate goal.

    Funky Kong and Lawyer Kong

Funky Kong

First appearance: 'Mario VS Donkey Kong' (2017)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ee0ab8ff_9e9b_4601_baf1_37862925cac4.jpeg
"You look like you wanna be cooool!"
An ally of Donkey Kong, infamous for the "New Funky Mode" memes. He once scammed Mario with an NFT which, needless to say, resulted in catastrophy.
  • Driven to Suicide: Attempts this when he sees what introducing Mario to NFTs did. Unfortunately, Mario had "better" plans for him.
  • Hidden Depths: Given his reveal as Lawyer Kong, he apparently has a degree in law.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: In "Mario Gets Into NFTs" he only served to get Mario obsessed with NFTs. The result is Mario turning almost everyone into NFTs.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: He only intended to scam Mario with an NFT. He didn't intend for Mario to take the NFT business seriously and is horrified when Mario started transforming everyone into NFTs out of sheer greed.

Lawyer Kong

First appearance: "SMG4 Gets Sued" (2022)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/090dec59_371b_499d_a67e_eef129503509.png
CEASE AND DESIST!
During the Lawsuit Arc, he takes on the role of a representative of Nintendo's law firm. He views SMG4's YouTube channel as a violation of his company's IP rights, and tries to have it taken down.
  • Amoral Attorney: He sinks squarely into this by his second appearance, where he isolates the Mushroom Kingdom from the rest of the world and effectively turns it into a police state.
  • Arc Villain: The one causing all the problems in the Lawsuit Arc.
  • Arms Dealer: He gives up being a lawyer after his defeat and goes back to selling weapons.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Like Francis before him, he's goofy-looking and kind of a jerk, but he's a force to be reckoned with.
  • Bullying a Dragon: After he takes Mario away, Meggy breaks into his new game to take him back, and later fights off his army of ninjas. Lawyer Kong's response? Cut Peach's Castle off from the rest of the world with a firewall, turn the rest of the world into a barren wasteland, and forcefully revert the Mario characters to their canon personalities. SMG4 himself chastises Meggy for messing with him. There's also the fact that SMG4 is constantly worried that the gang's attempts to fight back against him will make him file a DMCA and erase his channel completely.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: After smacking the parody contract documents out of Meggy's hand, allowing Miyamoto to sign the Super DMCA and kill off the SMG4 channel, he somehow never thinks of destroying the documents - which if he did, would've guaranteed a permanent victory since there would be no way to undo the DMCA's effects of killing off the non-Nintendo characters - which allows Meggy to slip the documents into Mario's hat as she dies. It also never occurs to him to erase Mario's personality again either, which would mean the last person set out to stop him would be pacified.
  • The Bus Came Back: He makes two surprise appearances; one in "Mario Plays Cursed Mario Games", and one during an advertisment in "You Made Mario Do This", despite retiring from the law firm and going back to Funky Kong. Then again, neither of these instances are canon anyway.
  • Canon Character All Along: Although he bears a strong resemblance to Funky Kong, the ending of WOTFI 2022 reveals that he is Funky Kong, given a new name due to his new job as a lawyer. Once he loses the case, he goes back to his old identity.
  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Right off the bat, we can see how similar-yet-different he is from Zero, the main villain of the last two major SMG4 arcsnote . While both of their actions spell out certain doom for the SMG4-verse, Zero would have created an apocalypse that would have killed everyone, while Lawyer Kong simply would have reverted Nintendo characters to their canon personalities, leaving non-Nintendo characters out of the process, but also making them homeless. Zero serves no one, but Lawyer Kong works for a higher power, Miyamoto. Zero, as a perfectionist, wants to create the ideal universe, but doesn't really give much details on what he would want for it, while Lawyer Kong makes it clear that he wants a Mushroom Kingdom with only Nintendo characters in it. Funnily enough, even the way they're defeated is similar-yet-different, as they are both forced to stand down when the odds are against them, with one outcome leading to accepting death, and the other simply leading to retiring from the law firm in favor of a different career choice. As icing on the cake, they both have an identity complex; Zero is two people merged into one, and Lawyer Kong isn't just someone who looks like Funky Kong—he is Funky Kong.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: After his defeat and he goes back to being Funky Kong, he doesn't seem to hold a grudge against the gang, happily offering to sell his weapons to them.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: He wears a hat atop another hat. Specifically, a bowler hat atop what looks like Diddy Kong's hat, but larger.
  • The Dreaded: SMG4 states that Nintendo's lawyers are the only people he absolutely does not want to piss off. Once Lawyer Kong enters the picture, it's easy to see why—the only reason Mario manages to stick around is because of Miyamoto's intervention, and even that doesn't last for long.
  • Easily Forgiven: After the end of the court trial, nobody seeks vengeance against him for his role in the Lawsuit Arc or for using a DMCA to kill the non-Nintendo cast.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: In the WOTFI 2022 rap battle, he seemed quite perturbed to see Karen basically talk about how she wants to stop existing.
  • Evil Is Petty: He goes to horrible lengths to destroy SMG4's channel just because he, Meggy and Mario defied him; the fact that Lawyer Kong resorts to brainwashing and segreation because of this highlights how childishly petty he is.
  • Fantastic Racism: He seems to have great distain for non-Nintendo characters, outright calling them "trash" in his second appearance. Once he blocks off Peach's Castle with the firewall, he only allows Nintendo characters inside, with third-party characters who try to get in being detained.
  • Faux Affably Evil: His early screentime paints him as being Affably Evil, with him acting friendly to Mario and trying to politely convince him to join their new game, though it's rather obvious he's a dirtbag. Once Mario refuses to go with Lawyer Kong, the latter drops any sense of civility and takes Mario by force. By the time of his second appearance, he doesn't even bother with trying to be presentable.
  • Final Solution: "[NINTENDO HAS CLAIMED THIS VIDEO]" reveals that Miyamoto signing his DMCA causes every single non-Nintendo character (except SMG4 himself) to immediately drop dead.
  • Four-Fingered Hands: Despite using Funky Kong's model, which normally has 5 fingers per hand and 5 toes per foot, Lawyer Kong has 4 fingers per hand and 4 toes per foot. This makes his reveal as Funky Kong all the more surprising.
  • Graceful Loser: Surprisingly enough, despite all the underhanded tricks he used to try to win, once he definitively loses his case against SMG4 he takes it surprisingly well, seeing as a sign that his tenure as a lawyer isn't working and deciding to go back to his original job of arms dealing.
  • Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: He has the business suit to match his profession, but nothing underneath his belt.
  • Hate Sink: He's a corrupt, vindictive scumbag who takes advantage of the law to get what he wants and isn't above using dirty tricks to do it. Over the course of the arc, he isolates all non-Nintendo characters from the Mushroom Kingdom and brainwashes any Nintendo character into their canon self, and later resorts to what is essentially genocide just to get rid of SMG4's channel.
  • The Heavy: Shigeru Miyamoto is technically the main antagonist of the Lawsuit Arc, being Lawyer Kong's superior and the one who signs the Super DMCA, but Lawyer Kong is far more sinister and does all the work in destroying SMG4's channel.
  • Hypocrite: As Meggy, Mario, and SMG4 point out in "Objection", Lawyer Kong, despite claiming to be working for the law to keep the chaos and destruction the Glitchy Gang and their enemies bring out of Nintendo, he resorted to blatantly dirty tactics to create at first what's essentially the video game Jim Crow laws and then a Holocaust, making him little to no better in comparison.
  • Jerkass: He's right up there with Francis as one of the biggest assholes in the whole series.
  • Laughably Evil: The character being literally Funky Kong with darker fur and in a business suit is innocent enough, but the fact that his voice comes from The DK Rap, which has been memed to hell and back, is just plain ridiculous. Even saying "Lawyer Kong" with a straight face is challenging at the best of times.
  • Magically-Binding Contract: His legal documents are capable of physically affecting people (such as paralyzing them with a Cease and Desist). However, there needs to be a legal reason for them existing in order for them to be absolute (like how Meggy broke free from her C&D by saying she needs to have committed a legal infraction for there to be a C&D, which she didn't).
  • More Despicable Minion: He works for Miyamoto, but has none of his Affably Evil and Reasonable Authority Figure traits.
  • A Nazi by Any Other Name: He forces every non-Nintendo character (whom he's heavily prejudiced against) out of their homes, forced the "grey area" characters into a decontainment zone (where they're killed if they aren't seen as useful anymore), and actively allowed Miyamoto to kill all of the Original Characters eventually.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite generally despising memes, he'll still use them on ocassion.
    • In "Breaking Luigi," he tells Luigi a Your Mom joke to take away his confidence.
    • In "Goodbye, SMG4", he taunts Mario with his own twisted version of—what else?—the DK Rap.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: Initially, his persistence in taking Mario away seems to be so Nintendo can use him in their new game. His attempt to shut down SMG4's channel, while more petty, could also be seen as him just doing his job. However, once Meggy manages to take Mario back, Lawyer Kong's motivations shift to destroying the channel just out of spite.
  • Obviously Evil: Whereas most of the other Arc Villains in SMG4 progressed into the Arc Villain role overtime, with this guy, it's made clear that he's no good from the start.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Doubles with Meaningless Villain Victory. After getting his DMCA signed and notarized, it results in the termination of all the OCs along with the deletion of SMG4's channel allowing for Mario to be brought back to Nintendo again. However, because of this; Mario is left a broken shell of his former self that he is passively spiting every Nintendo Game Plot Miyamoto comes up with making it all the more impossible to even make another Mario Game ever again (E.G.: Mario tossing Princess Peach at Bowser as he arrives to try kidnapping her before flipping them both off and closing the castle door behind him, constantly leaping off the Smash Platform, etc.)
  • Recurring Element: He's another addition to SMG4's rouges' gallery of nigh-omnipotent scumbags surrounded by laughably quirky traits, following SMG3, Waluigi, Francis, and Niles.
  • Red Is Violent: When he's angry or being sinister, Lawyer Kong's body often gains a red tint.
  • Rewriting Reality: Although he needs his boss' approval to use them, Lawyer Kong's contracts accomplish this. With the power of DMCA and other litigations, he can produce a medley of effects - mind controlling characters, stripping away their memories and personalities to revert them to their canon versions, and even killing them on the spot if they're an original character. It's all undone, thankfully, but his control over law makes him extremely dangerous in a universe walking the thin edge of copyright infringement.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: An In-Universe case. The Lawsuit Arc centers around this guy wanting to take down SMG4's channel for using Nintendo characters, and the extreme lengths he goes to in order to do so.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After his final defeat, he simply gives up and turns back into Funky Kong, leaving to go dance to funky music and sell weapons.
  • Sinister Shades: On account of being basically an evil Funky Kong.
  • Slasher Smile: He's very fond of giving these expressions whenever things go his way.
  • Synthetic Voice Actor: His voice is an A.I.-created replica of The DK Rap.
  • Take That!: He's a living parody of Nintendo's infamous invoked overzealous enforcement of their copyrighted properties.
  • We Will Meet Again: Promises to be back for revenge after Miyamoto's interference allows Mario to stay with SMG4. He ends up doing just that in the next (canonical) episode.

Other Mario Characters - Minor

Mario series characters that play minor roles; usually one-time roles or arc roles.

    Chain Chomp

Chain Chomp

First appearance: "Dreams" (2011)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chain_chomp_wiki_render_2021.png
"Wanna be friends?"
A dog like creature who doesn't know "what the FUCK is a Sonic."
  • Art Shift: Like most other characters, it uses its modern model in the modern era. The larger Chomps are also often replaced with the smaller ones, though every now and then a larger Chomp will appear.
  • Character Catchphrase: "What the FUCK is a Sonic?"
  • A Day in the Limelight: A Chomp was the main antagonist of "Who let the chomp out?" and its sequel.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Decides to quit being SMG4's friends' execution machine in "Seaside Stupidity Part 2" after hearing Ben's mom's scolding on her son.
    Chain Chomp: Aw hell NooOOOooo!
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: The reason that the Chomp in "Who let the chomp out?" was chasing Mario and SMG4 around.
  • Large Ham: Tends to be this in its earlier appearances as its Super Mario 64 self. It briefly goes back to being this in "THE 5000000 SPECIAL".
  • Only Friend: Midway "Who let the chomp out?", he and Sonic become mutal friends on Facebook.
  • Palette Swap: Its first appearance was as a yellow colored chomp with no teeth, resembling Pac-Man. In "Who let the chomp out?" it turns into this when it grabs a star.
  • Poor Communication Kills: It wants to be Mario and SMG4's friend, but comes more across as a murderous animal than a playful dog. SMG4 tries to apologize at the end, but Mario doesn't care and kicks it out of the castle with a bomb.

    Daisy

Daisy

First appearance: 'Brother Love' (2011)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2e8fa237_3cba_4e2d_9841_e0f6cebfa0a0.png
"Hi, I'm Daisy!"
Princess of Sarasaland and Peach's cousin. Also Luigi's object of affection.
  • Alpha Bitch: Has a bit of a snobby tone in "Mario Simulator". This trait is no longer existent after that.
  • Butt-Monkey: In "Mario Simulator".
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: "Hi, I'm Daisy!" She even made a Christmas carol out of it.
  • Put on a Bus: Hasn't had a major role since 2017 and only appears in non-speaking cameos after that.
  • The Bus Came Back: After some non-speaking cameos, she made some surprising returns in "Mario Reacts to Nintendo Memes", repeatedly bothering Mario with her "Hi, I'm Daisy" line.

    Gourmet Guy

Gourmet Guy

First appearance: 'Mini Italians' (2011)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gourmet_guy_wiki_render_2021.png
A fat Shy Guy. His sprite is originally from the game Paper Mario.
  • Art Evolution: He was, for a long while, a sprite that was moved across the screen. Later appearances featured a new 3D model. However, he goes back to using his sprite in most later episodes, making him one of the few characters to revert back to their older design.
  • Butt Sticker: In almost all of his appearances he is shown crushing someone. This most notably happens at the beginning of "Who let the chomp out?"
  • Composite Character: He takes the role of the Duke in "Mario and the Village"
  • Fat Comic Relief: His primary shtick.

    Ztar

Ztar

First appearance: "Bad Stars" (2014)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ztar_wiki_render_2021.png
An evil star created by SMG3 and Bowser. It is the main antagonist of "Bad Stars" and the "Bad Star's Back!" 300k special. It is one of the foremost antagonists of the series.

    King Pipe

King Pipe

First appearance: 'Problematic Pipe Problems' (2014)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2014-12-12_at_7_10_20_pm_5050.png
A sentient pipe who lives underground with his other pipes and was the reason pipes suddenly sprouted everywhere around Peach's castle in "Problematic Pipe Problems".
  • Animate Inanimate Object
  • Disproportionate Retribution: His reason for attacking the Mushroom Kingdom? Because Mario and Luigi don't do their job of being plumbers and Mario used one as a toilet.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Mario is able to teach him how to be a plumber, which amounts to just whacking wrenches on pipes. Afterwards he allows Mario, Luigi, and SMG4 to leave, under the condition that they don't return to his dungeon. However Peach's castle is still covered in pipes, and when Mario returns home, he gets a warm welcome from Peach.
  • King Mook: The king of the pipes.
  • One-Shot Character: Had only one major role then didn't appear again after that, excluding a 3 million collab fan entry.

    Dr. Pootis

Dr. Pootis

First appearance: 'The Item Brick' (2015)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dr_pootis_wiki_render_2021.png
Basically Lord Crump with the Heavy Weapons Guy's voice. He was created by an item brick. Usually crosses paths with Eggman in the Sonic the derphog series, but shows up occasionally in the main Mario series as well, such as in "The Battletoads Justice Crew" and "Mighty Morphin' Mario Rangers".
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Considers himself to be the most dangerous man in history of worlds.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Calls Babeh a ‘sick man’ for sending Frankie, a child, to fight him.
  • Evil Is Petty: Among the crimes he performs in "Mighty Morphin' Mario Rangers" are littering, stepping on grass, kicking a pig, destroying Bowser Junior's toy, and not flushing the toilet when he was done with it.
  • Mundane Utility: He uses his giant mech to commit all sorts of horrific acts, like going into a public bathroom and not flushing or holding up a line.
  • The Rival: To Dr. Eggman, as well as to Swagmaster696969696969 in "MARIO'S CHALLENGE".

    Rosalina

Rosalina

First appearance: "Shoot to the Observatory in the Sky" (2015)

A princess who owns the Comet Observatory and makes an appearance in "Shoot to the Observatory in the sky". A bunch of Lumas live with her.
  • Put on a Bus: She disappeared after "The Smash 5 Trials".
    • The Bus Came Back: Finally reappears in "War of the Fat Italians 2019" as a brief cameo. She also showed back up in "Mario Reacts to Nintendo Memes".
  • Secret Admirer: Professor E. Gadd.

    Awesome Guy

Awesome Guy

First appearance: "Shy Guy Showdown" (2015)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/awsome_guy.jpg
General Guy from Paper Mario under a different name. He appears in "Shy Guy Showdown" wanting to take over the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • A God Am I: Considering he rules over a kingdom of Shy Guys, whom are forced to worship him, it can be assumed he views himself as this.
  • Art Shift: Uses a grand total of three different art styles: His original Paper Mario sprite, a custom Super Mario RPG sprite, and the SM64 Mario replacement model (which lacks the character's traditional general's hat).
  • Ax-Crazy: Will casually shoot one of his supporters with a shot-gun, and planned to take over the Mushroom Kingdom for no reason.
  • Badass Army: Subverted. His army is just as dumb as he is.
  • Bad Boss: He forces his troops to worship him, but if they get to close he will shoot them.
  • Berserk Button: Don't enter his personal space, he will shoot you.
  • Big Bad: Of "Shy Guy Showdown".
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: It is clear, by the end, that he had no real plan when it came to taking over the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • Cult: He seems to have formed one with shy guys.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: He shoots one of his supporters with a shot-gun because he got to close.
  • The Ditz: He's really stupid.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: He is horrified when Mario pulls out a Waluigi launcher.
    • He also has enough decency to send drunk soldiers home.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He acts like a kind and fair ruler, but is actually a stuck up Jerkass.
  • For the Evulz: Why he wants to take over the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • Harmless Villain: He is revealed to be this in the end, all he does is shout about how he'll take over the Kingdom while everyone just ignores him.
  • Hates Being Touched: So much that he'll SHOOT YOU.
  • Hate Sink: He is, by far, the most obnoxious antagonist in the entire series.
  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: It's really hard not to feel bad for him when he's left shouting about how he'll take over the Kingdom while everyone just ignores him.
  • It's All About Me: At noon, all the Shy Guys in town are forced to stand on the side of a row and worship him.
  • Jerkass: Beyond any reasonable doubt.
  • Lack of Empathy: Plans to destroy the Mushroom Kingdom For the Evulz.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: His army abandons him, and he is arrested by the cops.
  • Non-Action Big Bad: Deconstruction, as he is so useless when his army abandons him he is almost immediately arrested.
  • Nonindicative Name: Awesome Guy is anything but.
  • Only Sane Man: To his idiotic troops.
  • Pet the Dog: When he thinks Mario is a drunk soldier he orders a few officers to take him home.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: He even calls the cop arresting him a "meanie".
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: Subverted, he SUCKS at fighting.
  • The Sociopath: Narcissistic, violent, and manipulative, however, without his army he's extremely harmless.
  • Too Dumb to Live: He tries to take over a fucking kingdom with no plan, a useless tank, and an idiotic army.

    Shy Guy Elite Squad

Shy Guy Elite Squad

First appearance: "Shy Guy Showdown" (2015)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/smg4gayguys.jpg
Clockwise from top left: Assassin Guy, Awkward Guy, Steve Guy, and Crazy Guy.
Awesome Guy's personal team of elite Shy Guys, or as he calls it: the "Super League of Gay Guys".
  • Accidental Suicide:
    • When Mario keeps evading Steve Guy's chainsaw by teleporting between jars, Steve gets impatient and blows up the jars with a rocket launcher, killing himself in the process. Mario pops out of another jar which was much further away, making Steve's efforts All for Nothing.
    • Crazy Guy tries to drive a Pingas train into Mario, but he misses and runs over Assassin Guy in the process and then crashes into a wall, killing them both.
  • Chainsaw Good: Steve Guy uses one, fitting thanks to the franchise his mask originates from.
  • Cloudcuckoolanders: ALL OF THEM...
  • Colour-Coded for Your Convenience: Assassin Guy is red, Awkward Guy is orange, Crazy Guy is yellow, and Steve Guy is teal-green.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: To ward off Awkward Guy, the Shy Guy Mario allied with pays a nearby Old Man Wizard to transform him into a Shy Gal, followed by flirting with Awkward Guy, allowing Mario to kill Awkward Guy with his own cannon just as the good Shy Guy transforms back.
  • The Ditz: They aren't too smart.
  • The Heavy: Awesome Guy is the Big Bad of the episode, but they do all the work.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard:
    • As noted above, Awkward Guy is defeated by his own cannon while he's distracted by the friendly Shy Guy's disguise.
    • In an attempt to rid of Mario, Crazy Guy rides a Robotnik-faced Nyan Thomas towards Mario, only for Mario to leap out of the way, causing him to hit Assassin Guy instead and ram into the wall, killing both of them.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: A katana is wielded by Assassin Guy.
  • Ninja: Assassin Guy.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Steve Guy is just Steve wearing Jason's mask, though considering that the Shy Guys though Mario was one of them because his face was covered in weed, this is somewhat understandable.
  • The Runt at the End: When the Shy Guys are introduced one by one, "Steve Guy," who is literally just Steve wearing a Jason mask, is the last to be shown.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Tom the Dark Lord: Steve is still named... Steve.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Crazy Guy literally gets himself, and Assassin Guy, killed due to his own stupidity.

    Cappy

Cappy

First appearance: "Stupid Mario Odyssey" (2017)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screen_shot_2017_10_22_at_122707_pm.png
Mario's traveling companion from Super Mario Odyssey, who made his way into the SMG4-verse in the Stupid Mario Odyssey episodes.
  • Body Surf: Just like in his debut game, he enables Mario to capture both living and inanimate objects.
  • Cool Ship: While nowhere near as detailed as in Odyssey proper, Cappy still uses the Odyssey as means of travel.
  • Retcon: As there was no Garry's Mod model for Cappy's normal form at the time of his appearances, he exclusively appears transformed into Mario's hat.

    Koopa in a Wheelchair

Koopa in a Wheelchair

First appearance: "The Mario Hustle" (2018)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/df71q6y_5529dc70_1122_4a63_b3e3_6c3a54b1d876.png
Ravioli, ravioli, cure his cancer-oli!
A young Koopa Troopa in a wheelchair. Expect him to suffer a lot.
