Recap / SMG4 - The Weegee Uprising

Go To

When the Weegee dolls returns, Luigi, Boopkins, and Shroomy find themselves 500 years in the future.

  • Aborted Arc: While it seems that the Defect Weegee Doll is going to escape and cause trouble, Shroomy just shotguns it, undoing everything.
  • Asshole Victim: Usually, Toad's generally unpleasant demeanor stems from generally being caught in unpleasant circumstances. Here, his bad luck looks like it comes as a response to acting douchey unprompted. Namely, Toad goes out of his way to be condescending towards Luigi, Boopkins, and Shroomy having good clean fun and shows no gratitude for them trying to include him in it, which is subsequently followed by the Weegee doll Toad made fun of coming to life, making Toad himself its first victim.
  • Bad Future: Luigi, Boopkins, and Shroomy find themselves in one while hiding from the dolls in a freezer.
  • Beware the Silly Ones:
    • New Super Duper Mario Plus Ultra may have a long name and looks ridiculous, but he's also the one to suggest the plan to sneak into E. Gadd's lab, as well as holding his own against a mob of Weege Dolls.
    • Shroomy may be a boy scout, but he pulls out a shotgun to kill the Defect Weegee Doll, much to the shock of Luigi and Boopkins.
  • The Cameo: Minion appears in a flashback to "Luigi Labyrinth".
  • Covers Always Lie: The thumbnail shows Mario encountering huge Weegee dolls, but the focus is on Luigi, Shroomy, and Boopkins instead. That's not even Super Duper Mario Plus Ultra.
  • Darker and Edgier: Compared to "Luigi Labyrinth," this episode is this due to the Luigi Dolls successfully taking over the world and the whole gang except for Luigi, Boopkins, and Shroomy being dead either from being killed or from old age. We even get to see SMG4 getting mauled by the dolls.
  • Token Good Teammate: An SMG4 Weegee doll lives with New Super Duper Mario Plus Ultra and wrote the episode he was in with suspiciously convenient plot devices so that Luigi, Boopkins, and Shroomy would be able to fix the Bad Future.
  • Harmless Freezing: Luigi, Boopkins, and Shroomy hid in a freezer room in an attempt to wait the dolls out. They end up freezing solid and remained that way until a child Weegee doll freed them on accident 500 years later.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: New Super Duper Mario Plus Ultra sacrifices himself so that Luigi, Boopkins, and Shroomy can undo the Bad Future.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Shroomy mention the convenience plot elements. This causes an SMG4 doll to respond.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: After undoing the Bad Future, the timeline is soon replaced with a new one, leaving Luigi, Boopkins, and Shroomy questioning if something significant happened, but shrugs it off.
  • Lighter and Softer: The entire episode feels like a goofier/zanier version of the Waluigi Arc (More specifically the bloopers that involved the T-Pose Virus.)
  • Negative Continuity: Granted, the events of this episode were technically erased when the Bad Future was erased, but it doesn't quite account for the lore introduced later on in the Genesis Arc since the original Mario is dead.
  • Sequel Episode: To SMG4 Bloopers: Luigi Labyrinth.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: The last three surviving members of the SMG4 crew go back in time to kill the Defect Weegee Doll who started it all.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Luigi's role as the mastermind behind the first outbreak is never brought up.
