A photoshoot is usually intended for the model/performer/etc. to be captured in a flattering manner for publicity and promotional purposes. However, if the photographer or whoever is commissioning the shoot has unsavory motives, things can get problematic. The subject(s) may be asked to do something they're not comfortable with, such as showing a lot of skin and/or posing provocatively, or may be put into situations that are morally or ethically problematic, or simply violate their mental/emotional well-being. Things could escalate to the point that the subject is manipulated or coerced into sexual acts, or at least propositioned to. Whatever the case, this is often traumatic for the subject, both in the moment and in the future should there be fallout from the photos being made public, such as Slut-Shaming or being considered Defiled Forever.

This can also extend to media such as film and art, as the people behind the camera or creating the art can do the same kinds of things to the subjects of those media.

Can be a potent source of Fan Disservice depending on the circumstances and what actually happens.

  • Model Scam, which has overlap but is a con job from the get-go while this is a legitimate shoot that goes wrong.
  • Casting Couch, where the goal is to get the subject to have sex with someone in order to land a job.
  • Revenge Porn Blackmail, which can overlap if the scammer attempts to use the photos for blackmail.

Contrast Modeling is Glamorous.

    Anime & Manga
  • DEVILMAN crybaby: In "One Hand is Enough", Miko begins masturbating while thinking about Akira, but then thinks back to when she took Miki's place for a photoshoot with Koji, which transitioned from him taking photos of her to molesting her and possibly more.
  • Great Teacher Onizuka: In the side story "GTO: Great Tomoko Oppai", the shifty talent agent Munakata starts putting Tomoko in risque photoshoots, all in the name of publicity and getting her name out there. This angers her manager, Okinoshima, who is determined to keep her from being exploited.

    Comic Books
  • Exaggerated in Action Comics #592 and 593. Sleez, a former associate of Darkseid, manages to get both Big Barda and Superman under his mental control. Along with humiliating Barda, he works with an adult film producer in one of Metropolis' slums to have Barda filmed doing something indecent, and later tries to have Superman and Barda filmed having sex. However, Barda's husband Mister Miracle, tipped off to what's going on by Darkseid, interrupts the shoot and breaks them free of Sleez's control before things can get farther than them kissing.

    Films — Animation
  • Perfect Blue: As a way to promote her solo career, Mima is set up for a shoot with a photographer who, as her former bandmates note in a private conversation, has a reputation for getting girls out of their clothes. Sure enough, the shoot starts innocently enough, but the photographer plays on Mima's naivete and gradually talks her into increasingly racy photos; by the time it's over, she's completely nude and the photos that are shown border on softcore porn. Already distressed from a rape scene she'd filmed days beforehand, the experience wounds her even more, especially when the photos end up in a magazine and lead to public anger over the damage to her image. In a flashback to the sequence, the photographer is visibly getting off despite having both hands on the camera.

    Films — Live-Action
  • Embrace of the Vampire (1995): Charlotte is approached by a photographer, Sarah, who asks if she can model for her. During a photoshoot in her studio, it progresses to semi-nude modeling, then Sarah starts coming on to her. Charlotte at first goes along with it, but eventually halts it and leaves when it dawns on her that she's being taken advantage of.
  • Gia. Zig-zagged. During a photoshoot for a magazine, the photographer asks the models if any of them want to stay to make "art", by which he means, "keep the fence, ditch the clothes". Most of the models are repulsed and immediately bail. Gia, however, says that she will if Linda (the make-up artist for the shoot) will join her. Gia seems to be enjoying herself, and when Linda eventually disrobes and joins her, they're very clearly coming on to each other.
  • The Incredible Melting Man: A photographer is shooting outdoor photos of a model in a tube top and short shorts. After shooting several pics, he tries to talk her into taking her top off. She's not having it and tries to refuse, but he starts putting his hands on her arms to try to calm her down, and then pulls her top down, snapping photos while grabbing her hands so she can't cover herself. Not only is she angered and embarrassed, as she's trying to get away from him she stumbles into the remains of one of the Melting Man's victims, traumatizing her even more.
  • The Neon Demon: The underage Jesse's first real job in LA is a naked photoshoot where she is covered by gold paint and asked to pose "dead" on a sofa as if she's had her throat cut. There's a lot of emphasis on Jack, the much older photographer, rubbing Jesse's chest with paint. Ruby then jumps in and warns Jesse not to be alone with Jack, which may be true but also may be Ruby taking advantage of the situation to befriend Jessie.
  • Tricky People, a stranger danger PSA, has the villain Reginald Charming subject underage girls to inappropriate photoshoots, which he uses to pick out and prey upon girls that he particularly likes. He also uses the photos as blackmail, threatening to release them should they try to get help. Thankfully, one of his previous victims confesses what happened to her to Yello Dyno, who promptly bursts into his office and retrieves her photos to show to the police, leading to Charming's arrest.

    Literature
  • Slasher Girls And Monster Boys: "Verse Chorus Verse", the Leigh Bardugo story, is about Jaycee, a child star who shot to prominence as a young teenager or tween from posing naked in a bathtub (covered by only a few bubbles). It's revealed that she was also molested by the famous photographer while he was shooting.
  • Speak: When Heather, a high school freshman, poses for a photoshoot in a blue bikini, the photographer makes some off-putting comments while telling her to pose, including, "Sexy, sexy, very cute. Look this way. Sexy, think beach, think boys."

    Live-Action TV
  • The Crown (2016). Played for laughs when a picture of Princess Margaret taken by Antony Armstrong-Jones appears in all the newspapers, to the horror of the Palace. Thanks to careful cropping it looks like Margaret was nude during the shoot, though all Antony did was pull down the straps of her dress. He does try to seduce her afterwards, but Margaret turns down the offer of staying longer.
  • Impeachment: In the finale, Paula Jones reluctantly takes an offer to pose for Penthouse, as she desperately needs money after her failed lawsuit against Clinton. While at first she believes it will just be a few tasteful topless photos, she is soon forced to pose completely nude, and in the aftermath, most of her former conservative allies turn on her.
  • Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: The first-season episode "...Or Just Look Like One" revolves around a case involving the rape and beating of a teenage girl who worked for a "modeling agency". Benson and Stabler investigate the agency and the sleazy photographer who had fired the victim for being "too heavy." They eventually discover that the models are being supplied drugs, the photographer in question has a collection of photos of the models engaging in sexual acts with him, and the victim gave him oral in hopes that he would give her another chance at a gig.
  • In the 1995 television movie Paparazzo, a celebrity photographer takes some intimate photos of a film star he's seeing. She's furious at him when the photographs turn up in the tabloids, but later finds out she sent the photographs herself.
  • Pose: In "Acting Up", Angel manages to convince a photographer to take photos of her for a portfolio in exchange for what she thinks will be a few tasteful erotic shots. Things quickly go south for her, as the photographer bullies her into completely disrobing and touching herself on camera. When Blanca and Lil Papi find out, they break into the photographer's studio, beat the crap out of him, and steal the roll of film.

    Music
  • "You're Gorgeous" by BabyBird is about a naive young girl being persuaded by a sleazy photographer to reveal more and more. It becomes more and more apparent that this is a well-rehearsed patter from a guy who intends to sell the shots to wank-mags and pay her pennies for what will earn him hundreds—if he even does pay her.

    Video Games
  • Life Is Strange: Played with. Mark Jefferson is a famous photographer and his known photographs of women in distress are all considered very respectable. However, he and Nathan Prescott have a sideline in drugging and kidnapping teenage girls and forcing them to pose tied up in the Dark Room.
  • South Park: The Stick of Truth: In order to get a passport to Canada you need to take a picture. Unfortunately, the "photographer" at the photo shop turns out to be a pedophile who beat up and stashed away the actual photographer and is using the place to trick kids into doing naked photoshoots.

    Webcomics
  • Grrl Power: Invoked twice:
    • Right after ARCSWAT are announced to the world, they are assigned to do photoshoots to generate good PR. Maxima, being an Amazonian Beauty and a feminist who dislikes the attention her figure gets her, says that if her photoshoot turns out to be like this, they'll never find the photographer's body.
    • When Maxima's photoshoot finally happens, she's assigned a female photographer who notes that there are skeevy guys in the business. She does offer to take racy photos once the official shots are done, but in a well-defined manner with clear boundaries, even name-dropping a few celebrities she's done such work for—including Max's teammate Hiro. This seems to pique Max's interest, but she decides to politely decline due to the risks of having such materials just lying around for someone with superpowers to steal (with an Imagine Spot of it happening).

    Western Animation
  • King of the Hill: In "Transnational Amusements Presents", Peggy begins to be dismayed over her large feet, but is directed to someone named Grant Trimble by another woman who says that he helped her with the same problem. Trimble talks her into making what's presented as an educational video about the positives of large feet, but this is a thin veneer to legitimize what's actually a foot fetish video that makes its way to the internet. Peggy eventually finds out the truth, which crushes her even further, but a pep talk from Bobby helps her get past her shame and accept her feet.
  • Jem: "The Rock Fashion Book" has a G-rated version: after Pizzazz convinces her father to invest in the company currently behind Jem and The Holograms' successful photoshoot for their fashion book, she and her fellow Misfits put the former band into some embarrassing pictures, including having them do chores like carrying their bags and mopping Pizzazz's father's yacht. The Holograms are forced to endure the mistreatment due to their contract until they discover photos of their rivals sabotaging one of their past shoots, leading to them losing ownership of the company.

"Don't get drugged."

If you shapeshift into Lexie and try to get answers out of Zak Weston, he offers you a glass of vodka as he tries to rope you into a naked photoshoot. If you actually go through with it, you quickly discover that your drink has been spiked, causing you to lose control of your powers and revert to your true form right in front of Zak.

How well does it match the trope?
