Sith

    Lola

Lola

Voiced by: Úrsula Corberó (English and European Spanish)
Appearances: Visions
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lola_sith_visions_s2.png

A former Sith apprentice leading a peaceful but isolated life as a painter.

  • The Apprentice: Lola is the lapsed apprentice of the Sith Master. She tells him in no uncertain terms that she is no longer a Sith. He does not take this rejection well.
  • Art Attacker: She uses the force to aid in her painting. When her master comes calling and she resolves to defeat him, she uses the Force and control over her paint to befuddle and confuse him by changing the scenery.
  • Artificial Limbs: Her entire right arm is cybernetic.
  • Doing It for the Art: An In-Universe version of the trope as Lola appears to be doing art as a matter of self-expression and self-realization, with no apparent intent or opportunity for her art to be witnessed or experienced by others.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Her lightsaber's blade takes on the kind of curve you'd expect to see on a samurai sword.
  • Mundane Utility: Lola uses the Force, the energy interweaving all things in the galaxy for... painting. On the flipside, it's a plan with a whole lot less intended death than how most we've seen use the Force.

    E2
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e2_sith_visions_vol2.png

  • Dark Is Not Evil: Looks the part in all black with sharpish legs and a single orange eye that could be menacing and probably wasn't running with this trope when it's owner was still a Sith but by the time of the episode it's Lola's cute little Robot Buddy.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: About as big as your average astromech droid, but has a laser cannon in it that comes out with enough force and speed to remove a Sith Assassin Droid's head with ease.

    The Sith Master

Kutu

Voiced by: Luis Tosar (English and European Spanish)
Appearances: Visions
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lolassithmaster_sith.png

A Sith master who trained Lola in the ways of the dark side.

  • Arc Villain: For Sith. He's tracked down Lola with the intent of forcing her to become his apprentice once again.
  • BFS: His lightsaber is notably longer than Lola's, taking its inspiration from a medieval claymore.
  • Flaming Sword: His lightsaber gives off his impression, a la Kylo Ren.
  • Graceful Loser: Ultimately, he takes his fatal wound in stride, acknowledging that Lola has surpassed him now.
  • Resignations Not Accepted: Kutu doesn't take kindly to Lola up and quitting her apprenticeship, and will see her return to his side or dead by his hand.
  • Yandere: Platonic example — he wants Lola back as his apprentice, and he won't take no for an answer.

Screecher's Reach

    Daal

Daal

Voiced by: Eva Whittaker (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daal_visions.png

A young girl desperate to escape her current life.

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Daal wished more than anything to be able to leave the planet and find a better life. By the end of the story she does get to leave, but it's not for a better life at all.
  • Foil: To Luke Skywalker. Both are stifled and unsatisfied with their lot in life and dream of going out into the wider world. Though Luke is reluctant to just leave his aunt and uncle until the Empire makes the choice for him, Daal on the other hand takes the first opportunity to leave and makes a choice to leave her loved ones behind. Additionally, both face a test in a cave, but whereas Luke fights an illusion of Vader that served as an omen of his potential future, Daal faces a real threat in the Screecher and killing her is part of her initiation as a Sith apprentice.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: Daal is left with the choice to stay with her friends and continue their dismal working lives or leave them behind and depart with the Sith Mother for the promise of a better life. She ultimately chooses to go with the Mother, but her expression in the final shot implies she regrets giving up her friends in the process.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: The Mother insists she think this about killing the Ghost.
  • Red Is Heroic: Our protagonist: Red hair, red cloak, red lightsaber. Star Wars doesn't usually play this trope straight on a character by character basis, foreshadowing Daal not ending up on the usually good side of the Force.
  • Secretly Selfish: Daal is so desperate to leave the workhouse that she follows the advice of a Sith Lord to kill the Screecher. Although she initially questions whether she'll be allowed to bring her friends, she ultimately chooses to leave them behind when faced with an ultimatum. But the episode depicts her selfishness as being born out of desperation rather than true malice.

    Baython

Baython

Voiced by: Alex Connolly (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/baython_visions.png

One of Daal's friends.

  • The Big Guy: Easily the largest of the group, further emphasizing his maturity and parenting role.
  • Black Bead Eyes: Is the only one of the kids that doesn't have big innocent looking bead eyes. Instead he has placid grey eyes denoting him as calm and more mature.
  • Team Dad: The most mature of the group he acts as both older brother and parent to all of the younger kids, be it encouraging Daal, caring for Keena, or controlling Quinn.

    Quinn

Quinn

Voiced by: Noah Rafferty (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/quinn_visions.png

One of Daal's friends.

  • All There in the Script: His name is never spoken in the short itself.
  • Fiery Redhead: Certainly compared to the quiet melancholic but equally ginger Daal.
  • Paper Tiger: He's quick to boast that he's going to kick any ghosts in the arse, right up until he actually has to face one.
  • Wild Hair: None of the kids are particularly kempt but Quinn has the wildest torch of hair above his goggles.

    Keena

Keena

Voiced by: Molly McCann (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/keena_visions.png

A young girl who's friends with Daal's group.

  • Audience Surrogate: Implied to be the youngest and from outside the native culture of the other kids and has to have things like the titular Screecher's Reach explained to her and the viewer by extension.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Her size and personality give off this impression.
  • Character Tics: Blinks out of sync with her left eye starting after her right.
  • Token Non-Human: The only non-humanoid member of the group.

    The Ghost

The Ghost

Voiced by: Niamh Moyles (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screechers_reach_highlights_banshee_b311bc07_9.jpeg

The Banshee-like screecher of Screecher's Reach.

  • Alas, Poor Villain: After she's pinned beneath a boulder, and her true nature is revealed, the Screecher is presented as a pitiful creature whose sanity had eroded long ago, leaving her violently hostile toward anyone she comes across. Daal killing her may as well have been a Mercy Kill.
  • Ambiguously Evil: The Screecher has a red lightsaber, the signature weapon of the Sith and attacks anyone who enters her lair, but she doesn’t display the typical Sith lust for conquest. It’s unclear if she defected from the Sith or was stranded, and whether the Mother wanted her killed as punishment or just to tie up loose ends.
  • The Dreaded: She's resided in Screecher's Reach long enough to become the subject of local legend, and confronting it is the goal behind Daal's journey.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: She's a former Sith consumed by madness who resides within Screecher's Reach as a hermit with a few meager possession, but she doesn't attack the kids until they go out of their way to intrude upon her home. All of her aggression is a result of her madness-induced state than genuine malice.
  • Our Banshees Are Louder: Not called one in the episode but Cartoon Saloon hasn't been shy about naming the ghostly women as the inspiration and the fandom has been instant in dubbing her one.
  • Real After All: Daal initially assumes she's just an illusion or exaggerated legend, but once the Ghost activates a red lightsaber, it becomes apparent that it's all too real.
  • The Reveal: The "Ghost" is actually a Sith hermit who fell to madness long ago and became the subject of folklore.

    The Mother (UNMARKED SPOILERS)

The Sith Mother

Voiced by: Anjelica Huston (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sithmother.png

An off-world Sith Lord who offered Daal a way to a new life.

  • Arc Villain: For Screecher's Reach. She's been manipulating Daal with promises of a better life off-world, and sets her on her journey to the titular Screecher's Reach as a final test to determine if she's worthy of becoming her apprentice. Unlike previous villains, she only shows up in-person at the very end, but her presence is represented by the pendant Daal carries.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: She successfully converts Daal into her apprentice and leaves the planet with her.
  • The Fair Folk: Per the episode's objective of putting Irish folklore in Star Wars, the Sith Mother evokes it with her elegant and mystical but all too obviously evil appearance, enigmatic intentions and engaging in some classic Yeats-ian tempting of a human child away with promises of a life better than their miseries.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Has the classic Sith yellow iris rimmed in red. They're initially white till they change when The Mother gives the stern ultimatum that Daal will have to leave her friends if she goes with her.
  • Sink or Swim Mentor: Since she knowingly sent Daal into the cave with a dangerous former Sith, there's no indicator she would have stepped in if Daal was killed, as the test was to prove if she could find the will to take a life on her own.
  • Walking Spoiler: Writing her full title of the Sith Mother would give away the Twist Ending.
  • White and Red and Eerie All Over: She has white skin and clothing detailed with red, giving her a initially comforting but subly threatening appearance.

In the Stars

    Tichina

Tichina

Voiced by: Julia Oviedo (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tichina_inthestars_visionsvol2.png

The younger of two sisters surviving on their occupied planet.

  • Decoy Protagonist: Between the two sisters, Tichina is initially presented as the central focus. Then Koten sets out to steal water from the Empire's plant, at which point the story shifts to her efforts to protect Tichina while also reconciling with her nature as a force user.

    Koten

Koten

Voiced by: Valentina Muhr (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/koten_visions.png

The older of two sisters surviving on their occupied planet.

  • Big Sister Instinct: She'll do anything to protect her little sister. Even help topple a Imperial factory.
  • The Cynic: Doesn't think there's any point to fighting the Empire. She changes her mind later.
  • Willfully Weak: She appears to lack the same force sensitivity as her mother and sister. That is, until she is compelled to use that ability to save Tichina. Even without considering how her mother's failed rebellion affected her, flashbacks show that Koten just preferred to do things the mundane way.

    The Imperial Officer

The Imperial Officer

Voiced by: Kate Dickie (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/imperial_officer.png

  • Arc Villain: As the commanding officer of the Imperial plant poisoning the planet, as well as the one responsible for the death of Tichina and Koten's mother and most of their people, she is the central antagonist of "In the Stars".
  • Evil Brit: Well, her accent is more Irish than British, but it does little to hide how much she looks down upon Tichina and Koten.
  • Oh, Crap!: Has only seconds to react as the Imperial plant collapses from Tichina and Koten's use of the Force, with the rushing water consuming her.
  • Slasher Smile: Sports one as her Imperial walker corners Tichina and Koten.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Orders Tichina be thrown to certain death and subsequently sics an Imperial walker on both her and Koten.
  • You Killed My Father: Presumably responsible for siccing the Imperial walker that killed Tichina and Koten's mother.

I Am Your Mother

    Annisoukaline "Anni" Kalfus

Annisoukaline "Anni" Kalfus

Voiced by: Charithra Chandran (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/annisoukaline_kalfus_infobox_pic.png

  • Ace Pilot: Is able to use what is basically an RV to win a race with top of the line racing vehicles.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Her only response to Julan's taunts is to giggle nervously and wave, when asked why she lets Julan talk to her the way she does, she can only give a shrug.
  • Disappeared Dad: The short focuses on her relationship with her mother, but never mentions her father.
  • Only Known By Her Nickname: She is only ever referred to as Anni in the short, with her full name shown in the credits.

    Kalina Kalfus

Kalina Kalfus

Voiced by: Maxine Peake (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kalina_kalfus.png

  • Alliterative Name: Kalina Kalfus.
  • All There in the Manual: Her first name is revealed in the behind-the-scenes extra.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Anni believes so, not wanting to join the Hanna City family race due to her mother being loud, clumsy, and poor compared to the Van Reeples. She is then mortified when her mother lands their spacetug ship (and home) on the race starting line, dropping their laundry everywhere.
  • Big Fun: She's a big boisterous lady who enjoys playing air guitar to loud rock music, flying fast and isn't afraid of getting stuck into a race on a whim.
  • Good Parents: Embarrassing qualities aside, Kalina evidently loves her daughter (which further contrasts her with Dorota).
  • Hartman Hips: She's a pear-shaped woman, contrasting the slim Dorota Van Reeple.
  • The Lad-ette: Shows a couple elements of this, given how willing she is to call the Van Reeples names and make rude gestures at them during the race.
  • Wrench Wench: Kalina has the skills to repair droids and starships, and though they may look clunky her inventions will hold their own where it matters.

    Z-1

Z-1

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/z_1_9.png

  • The Klutz: Is very clumsy and is constantly stumbling around or falling over. It's implied it's due to Z-1 being old and broken down, which is another source of embarrassment for Anni.
  • Robot Dog: He's an astromech droid that, for some reason, acts more like a dog.

    Julan Van Reeple

Julan Van Reeple

Voiced by: Bebe Cave (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/julanvanreeple.png

  • The Bully: Keeps calling Anni's ship a Porta-Potty and constantly mocks her working-class background.
  • Generation Xerox: Not only resembles her mother, but their body and arm movements are in perfect synch, shown when Julan is talking to Anni while a screen behind her shows her mother mugging for the camera.
  • Privileged Rival: It's heavily implied that she and Anni are the best pilots at the school, and she spends almost every interaction with Anni rubbing it in her face she is poor.

    Dorota Van Reeple

Dorota Van Reeple

Voiced by: Daisy Haggard (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dorota_van_reeple.png

  • Abusive Parent: Once the Van Reeples start losing the race, Dorota angrily insults her daughter and roughly shoves her aside to take the controls herself.
  • Lean and Mean: Is very tall, thin, and unpleasant, contrasting with the short, stout, and affable Kalina.
  • Noblewoman's Laugh: Befitting such a snobbish character, she laughs this way while mocking Anni and her mum during the race.

    Wedge Antilles

Wedge Antilles

Voiced by: Denis Lawson (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wedge_antilles.png

Yes, THAT Wedge Antilles.

  • Adaptational Comic Relief: He goes from a straight-laced military man in canon to a goofy merchandise huckster here.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Wedge is ordinarily a pretty humble guy, but here he's more willing to capitalize on his fame and spends most of the short shamelessly promoting his merchandise.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: As in Return of the Jedi, Lawson reverts to his native Scottish (being more noticeable from having more lines).

Journey to the Dark Head

    Ara

Ara

Voiced by: Jang Ye Na (Korean), Ashley Park (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ara_jttdh.png

A young woman determined to help end the war against the Sith.

  • Big Damn Heroes: Uses the explosives she'd brought to create a blinding light that distracts Bichan long enough for Toul to kill him, then saving Toul from falling to his death by diving after him and using a parachute.
  • Compressed Hair: Her hair reaches her mid back yet it easily fits underneath her hat.
  • Seers: Downplayed as she herself doesn't have the ability innately, but as child she helped record the visions that appeared on the rocks when it rained.
  • Wrench Wench: She claims to be a pilot, but her skills are mediocre at best. On the other hand, her mechanical skills are much better.

    Toul

Toul

Voiced by: Lee Kyung Tae (Korean), Eugene Lee Yang (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/toul_visions.png

A young Jedi struggling with his emotions.

  • Blue Is Heroic: Wields a blue-bladed lightsaber and has blue eyes which, given the color blue is associated with the Light Side of the Force in the short, reflects Toul's heroic nature as a Jedi.
  • The Cynic: His encounter with Bichan has left him severely shaken, harboring great anger and fear.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Bichan killed his master and friends but left Toul alive so that he may be converted to the Sith at a later time.
  • Just a Kid: Ara immediately states this upon seeing Toul, much to his annoyance.
  • Scars Are Forever: Sports one over the right-side corner of his mouth, inflicted by Bichan during their first encounter.

    Bichan

Bichan

Voiced by: Yun Yong Sik (Korean), Daniel Dae Kim (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bichan.png

A Sith who shares history with Toul.

  • Arc Villain: He's the main antagonist of "Journey to the Dark Head", which focuses on his pursuit of the protagonists, Ara and Toul, during which he tries to convert Toul.
  • Beard of Evil: He has a thin goatee underneath his mask and is a pretty ruthless Sith.
  • Off with His Head!: He is beheaded by Toul.
  • Tom the Dark Lord: He has an oddly cute name for an evil Sith Lord, specially to anyone familiar with Japanese honorifics where "Chan" is usually a suffix to small children, pets, and young girls.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: Toul survived his initial encounter with Bichan because the latter saw his potential as an apprentice. So when the two sense each other on Dolgarak, Bichan practically jumps at the opportunity to bring the boy to the Dark Side.

The Spy Dancer

    Loi'e

Loi'e

Voiced by: Camille Cottin (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/loie_tsd.png

  • Dance Battler: She moves with the same fluid flying motions she dances with while fighting.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: She moves like a Jedi with her dancing and fighting being beyond human abilities, and at one point even casually blocked blaster bolts with her weapon, said weapon being a long retractable stiletto blade that looks and acts like a Lightsaber minus the glow and heat. She even has a Padawan-like apprentice in Hétis, but is never shown using the force nor referred to as a Jedi.
  • Parachute Petticoat: Loi'e and Hétis have voluminous robes/silks that can act as parachutes to slow their descent from high up to the floor.

    Hétis

Hétis

Voiced by: Kaycie Chase (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hetis.png

  • The Apprentice: While the exact nature of their relationship is unknown, we can see from how they interact that they have a close almost familial bond, but also a professional one as well with Hétis being a fellow dancer and someone who warms up the crowd for Loi'e. Given how much Loi'e resembles a Jedi we can see this same resemblance in Hétis as her padawan.
  • Hide Your Otherness: Unlike the others we see of her species, Hétis hides her horns under her bangs. As her job at the cabaret involves interacting directly with guests, it's likely to present a less alien appearance more comfortable to the human Imperials.
  • Professional Voice Dissonance: AKA; everything sounds sexier in space French*. Contrary to hiding her horns for the reasons described above, she plays up her accent with the stormtroopers but once backstage, her natural accent is more subdued.

    Jon

Jon

Voiced by: Lambert Wilson (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jon_764.png

  • Aerith and Bob: Where Loi'e and Hétis have alien-looking spellings of French names, Jon is just Jean spelled Anglophonically.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Saves Hétis from the KX security droid.

    The Officer

The Officer

Voiced by: Rudi-James Jephcott (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_officer.png

  • Hide Your Otherness: His horns were cut-off and his golden eye was blinded in order to appear human.
  • Missing Child: He is revealed to be the missing child of Loi'e, abducted in his youth by a white-uniformed Imperial officer.
  • No Name Given: He's never referred to by name. Either his given name, which Loi'e never mentions out of grief, or whatever name the Imperial who took him gave him.

The Bandits of Golak

    Charuk

Charuk

Voiced by: Suraj Sharma (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/charuk.png

A young man trying to protect his little sister.

  • Filching Food for Fun: Charuk plays a game with Rani where he pretends to be a bandit and she, a bandit chief, and he filches food for her. For fun, but also for survival, as they are escaping the Empire and don't appear to have brought any substantial store of food with them.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Charuk is the responsible sibling, taking care of his younger sister and even carrying her on his back. His sister Rani is impulsive and has limited control over her Force powers, which she has a tendency to unwisely use in public.

    Rani

Rani

Voiced by: Sonal Kaushal (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rani_golak.png

A Force-sensitive little girl.

  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Rani is the foolish sibling; she is impulsive and has limited control over her Force powers, which she has a tendency to unwisely use in public. Her brother Charuk is the responsible sibling, taking care of her and even carrying her on his back.
  • Siblings in Crime: Rani and Charuk play a game where they pretend to be a bandit chief (Rani), and a bandit (Charuk), while he filches food for her.

    Rugal

Rugal

Voiced by: Lillete Dubey (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rugal.jpg

A Jedi hiding from the Empire.

  • Big Damn Heroes: All seems lost as the Inquisitor pursues Rani through a telekinetically-influenced sandstorm. Then Rugal, the matronly proprietor of the outdoor restaurant they are in, draws her two blue lightsabers from her walking stick and takes a fighting stance.
  • Dual Wielding: She wields two classically blue lightsabers in combat, which she keeps disguised as a walking stick.
  • Never Mess with Granny: Or in this case, perhaps Never Mess With Auntie: Rugal appears to be a slow-moving old woman who walks with a cane. The Sword Cane turns out to contain two blue lightsabers, which she uses to dispatch the Inquisitor convincingly.
  • Old Master: She's an elderly Jedi master who can match the Inquisitor with ease.

    Inquisitor

Inquisitor

Voiced by: Neeraj Kabi (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/inquisitor_on_golak.png

An Inquisitor hunting surviving Jedi.

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: He looks human but his skin is green.
  • Arc Villain: For The Bandits of Golak.
  • No Name Given: He's never referred to by name and is only known as the Inquisitor.
  • Sadist: Inquisitors are generally happy to torture and kill if it helps them find Jedi, but this one gloats about wiping out entire villages to find Rani.

The Pit

    Crux

Crux

Voiced by: Daveed Diggs (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/crux_2.png

  • Decoy Protagonist: He is captured and killed before he can mount a rescue of the other prisoners. Instead, it is Livy who wins everyone's freedom by rousing them to call out to the city.
  • Disney Villain Death: Inverted since he's a hero. He meets his end when the stormtroopers chuck him into the pit. His corpse is only seen by the feet, covered by a blanket.
  • Inspirational Martyr: Crux free climbs out of the mining pit at great hazard to himself, and then gives a Rousing Speech which seems at first to fail to attract the attention of the wealthy, self-absorbed cosmopolitan city dwellers. Then he is summarily executed by being thrown back into the pit. However, his words to Livy and the kyber crystal he gave her to inspire the people of the pit to cry out to follow the light and the city folks to rescue them, and later, it is implied that Livy connects to the crystal as it stands up on a point in her hand and turns blue.

    Livy

Livy

Voiced by: Jordyn Curet (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/livy_7.png

  • Fling a Light into the Future: Crux gives the young girl Livy a kyber crystal and tells her to use her voice to tell people to follow the light. After his fall, she speaks up and urges the people in the mining pit to chant to follow the light. In a climactic Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane moment, the people of the city flood out carrying lights and non-violently drive off the Stormtrooper overseers and then send transports down to rescue the people.

    Stormtrooper Commander

Stormtrooper Commander

Voiced by: Steve Blum (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/commander_2.png

  • Arc Villain: He's the main antagonist of "The Pit", being the head overseer of the kyber mines where the slaves work.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: After the crowd refuses to cow to his threats and pushes through his men to reach the trapped miners, the Commander realizes he's lost control and orders his men to pull out while they're busy with the rescue effort.
  • Non-Uniform Uniform: He wears a Phasma-like cape with his regular stormtrooper armor.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: In a grander story, this guy's just a Mook Lieutenant, but the smaller scope of the short and the utter lack of Jedi or Badass Normals allows him to be its lead villain.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: After the slaves deplete the kyber mine, he just leaves them there to die for no readily apparent reason.

Aau's Song

    Aau

Aau

Voiced by: Mpilo Jantjie (English), Dineo DuToit (Singing)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aau_2.png

A young girl on a planet full of kyber crystals.

  • All-Loving Hero: Aau is a sweet young bunny-rabbit-looking person whose song can purify mountains of corrupt red kyber crystal.
  • Call to Adventure: Aau receives two calls to adventure: first, when she hears the crystals in the distant mine singing to her, and she leaps across a chasm to go investigate. Second, when the Jedi Kratu offers to take Aau away from her planet to train her in the use of her force abilities.
Kratu: We cannot choose where our calling takes us. Only whether or not to answer.
  • Expressive Hair: Aau's dreads occasionally poof out a bit when she's shocked, or otherwise excited.
  • The Hero's Journey: Aau experiences a succinct version of the hero's journey. She starts in a wasteland created by the ancient Sith bleeding the kyber crystals of an entire world, she jumps across a chasm to answer the Call to Adventure, she is a literal rabbit person entering a magical world down a hole, and her apotheosis sets off a World-Healing Wave which purifies the kyber in the planet on at least a regional scale.
  • Magic Music: Aau's song can remove the corruption from mountains of kyber in a few moments. The Jedi Kratu comments that in her travels to thousands of worlds, never has she heard a voice like Aau's.
  • Missing Mom: No mention of her mother is made.
  • The Quiet One: Aau only speaks a handful of times and is silent for most of the short. Even when singing, she vocalizes, but doesn't actually say any words. This is because her voice has an effect on the corrupted kyber crystals that Abat assumes is dangerous. Once she is allowed to finish her song and purify the crystals, she becomes a bit more chatty.
  • World-Healing Wave: Aau's song sets off a wave of blue light within the mountains which purifies all the corrupt red kyber crystal in a few moments.

    Abat

Abat

Voiced by: Tumisho Masha (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/abat.png
Aau's father, a kyber crystal miner.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: Abat means well but his blocking Aau from completing her song of purification is what is causing the danger from the red crystals as she sings.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Api's fear of the crystals reacting to Aau's voice causes him to stop her in the middle of cleansing the mountain, which cause the Kyber crystals to react violently when returned to being red.
  • Papa Wolf: Everything he does is out of love for his daughter, misguided though his efforts are.
  • Wrong Assumption: His opposition to Aau's singing is because he mistakenly thinks that it acts as a Brown Note towards the corrupted Kyber crystals when it's actually purifying them.

    Kratu

Kratu

Voiced by: Cynthia Erivo (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kratu.jpg
A Jedi that occasionally stops in to purify the kyber crystals that the Korbans mine.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: She has purple skin.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When the crumbling mountain puts Aau and Abat in danger of falling to their deaths, Kratu narrowly intervenes by jumping in and using the Force to cushion the two's fall, then projecting a small barrier to protect them all from falling debris.
  • Blade Brake: When she arrives to save Abat and Aau from the falling mountain, she uses her lightsaber to slow her descent down a cliff face.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Kratu is somewhat impassive and regal in her bearing, but with Aau, she is curious, compassionate, and generous in giving her two weeks to choose.
  • Signature Headgear: She has a pretty impressive wide-brimmed hat as part of her ensemble.
