Ayana and associates

    Ayana Fujisawa

  • All of the Other Reindeer: She’s her classmates walking punching bag and they let her know it.
  • Cain and Abel: The Abel to Yamase’s Cain. They’re also each other’s second cousins due to his mother and their father’s relationship as first cousins.
  • Broken Bird: Practically everybody in this story relentlessly tortured every once of self esteem out of her, while the majority felt indifferent towards her plight. She’s about as broken as it possibly gets.
  • Bully Magnet: All the delinquents targeted her since she had no friends backing her up one Yuuko left.
  • Creepy Loner Girl: She’s a middle school student, has messy dark hair, her entire class ostracizes and bullies her, and her parents emotionally abuse her.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Suffers this once she witnesses Emi’s death and finds out Yuuko hung herself on the same day. Then a bigger one when Daisuke rapes her. Also on the same day. Small wonder this snaps her out of this and pushes her even more edgy on her Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
  • The Dog Bites Back: She’s this towards everyone that either bullied her or ignored her sufferings.
  • Freudian Excuse: Given how monstrous her bullies treated her, from No-Holds-Barred Beatdown over extreme pettiness, outright sexual assault, and attempted murder, who can blame her for going on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
  • Friendless Background: Before the start of the story, she was really close friends with Yuuko, Emi, and Miho. But Yuuko furiously chewed her out and ended their friendship because she couldn’t stand the pressure of everyone’s expectations. This escalated the bullying since Yuuko was the only one who held it off due to her high standing, while Emi ignored Ayana, and Miho joins two of Ayana’s most cruelest bullies, Mao and Shiori.
    • Yuuko does want to make amends but felt too shy, and by the time she did work up the courage, she’s made the second victim of Ayana’s revenge. Emi does successfully patch up with her, but then she accidentally falls to her death. Then she finds out Yuuko took her own life.
    • Miho was actually infiltrating Mao, Shiori, and Mari to expose them for their crimes against Ayana as a means to protect her. By the time she realizes the truth and rushes to protect Miho, her former friend has died. Ayana does not take this well.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: Her messy hair sometimess hides one side of her face, usually when she’s under extreme distress.
  • Hope Spot: She reconciles with Emi after she saves her from her bullies’ torments, reveals Yuuko’s role in toning down the bullying and wishing to make up to her as well. Then Yuuko’s mother barges into the school and Mao accuses Emi of taking the photos of Yuuko in the nightclub. Emi runs off to answer her call to Yuuko, who reveals her plans to kill herself while asking her to look after Ayana, but not before calling Emi a traitor. Emi desperately tries to climb up for better signal, but accidentally loses her balance and falls to her death. Then Ayana walks into the scene of Emi’s demise.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Does this to Daisuke by telling him You Should Have Died Instead while she was mourning Yuuko and Emi. He punches her and threatens to rape her unless she apologizes but she refused and continued her Madness Mantra. When Daisuke leaves, she reveals that her phone record the entire assault. This inspires her to get back on track to her Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
  • Madness Mantra: To Daisuke, “You should have been the one who died… You should have been the one who died… You should have been the one who died…”
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: She meet Ren badly injured after he got into a fight with senior students. She shot down his protest, walked him to the nurses’ office and patched up his wounds. This leads to his Mad Love towards her and forces her to be his “toy
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Pays this onto her bullies for making her life a living hell.
  • Rape and Revenge: 4 of her classmates have raped her before and during the story, and she’s made sure not to leave them out of her revenge scheme.
    • Yuuto Seo acted like he wanted to help her from her bullying troubles, only to force himself on her once she visited his home. She arrange one of her other rapist’s, Ochi, to attack Yuuto because he was “dating” the former’s crush and outs him for being a womanizing. The girl leaves him in disgust and declares she’ll tell everyone else his true nature.
    • Daisuke usually raped her on Ren’s command but decided to go behind his back and rape her because he couldn’t stand her taunts. She sets up a pitfall trap full of spikes for Daisuke and reveals that she recorded the entire assault. She threatens to either send the recording to the police or show it to Ren, much to Daisuke’s horror. She decides to leaves him for dead.
    • Ochi also raped her with Daisuke under Ren’s command. She orders him knocked out, tied to a chair in an abandoned building, and tortured.
    • Ren is the leader of her rapists who prefers watching her raped as he orders his minions to do it for him. She hates him the most and fears him out of all her revenge targets. [[spoiler: Ren is the only one who escapes her revenge list because he’s convinced her
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Sums up her characterization in a nutshell.
  • Silly Rabbit, Romance Is for Kids!: Given her parents’ abuses and disowning her, along with her friends abandoning, then dying before or after she reconciles with them, it’s no wonder she believes in this trope. Every guy that ever shown interest in her turned out to be [[{{Jerkass jerks]], rapists, or both. Fukushima was the only boy she really liked, only to find out that he liked Miho. Then Ryou came into her life, the first and only guy who has genuinely romantic feelings towards her. But by then, the damage has been done beyond repair.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: Mari planned on the bullying all along because her father killed himself because of his dismissal from Mr. Fujisawa. She really wants him to suffer with his daughter’s suicide, but it’s All for Nothing since he never loved her and disowned her.
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse:
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Before the story, she was once a cheerful little girl and had a happy school life, then the bullying hit her out of nowhere.
  • You Should Have Died Instead: Heavily mourning Yuuko and Emi while her guilt for dragging them into her Revenge sinks into her, one of her tormentors, Daisuke, shows up and belittles her. This pisses her off, not because of his insults, but because someone as cruel as Daisuke is alive and well while her friends are dead. She drops this trope to Daisuke, infuriating him into beating her and threatening to rape her unless she apologizes. Instead this trope becomes her Madness Mantra. Little did Daisuke know, she put her phone on recording mode.

    Ai Nomura

Ayana’s right hand. She’s convinced to follow Ayana’s Roaring Rampage of Revenge because it’s highly likely she’d become the bullies next target once they’re done with Ayana. She finds it really cool for her boss’ revenge scheme against her tormentors and sympathizes with her.

  • Evil Is Petty:
  • Those Two Guys: They’re always seen together.

    Takashi Mineshima

    Kentarou Tsujimura

    Yuuki Abe

Other Classmates

    General

  • Accomplice by Inaction: The reason Ayana refuses to excluded everyone of her revenge is because they refused to stand up to her bullies or alert their teachers.
  • Apathetic Citizens: Most of them preferred to stand back and ignore a girl getting ruthlessly tormented by a Gang of Bullies.
  • Bystander Syndrome: So a girl is getting remorselessly brutalized by a bunch of delinquents and what to the majority do? Act like nothing is going on and continue on with their lives. Emi and Yuuko are the only exception to this trope, but it takes them a while. While Ryou’s friend’s purposely distracted him away from what was going on, and Rino did try to stand up to the bullies, but got threaten into backing off.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Tetsuya Shimizu and Masatoshi Kobayashi are this in regards to their respective girlfriends. They’re both horrified once they find out they killed crows as a “prank” against Ayana and Mari just because they couldn’t attend the same middle school.
  • Fat Bastard: Hayato Igarashi
  • Fat and Skinny: Mai Natsume and Misato Koga.
  • Geek Physiques:
  • Girlish Pigtails:
  • Hate Stink:
    • Ayana hates not just her bullies for treating her less than dirt, but the rest of her classes as well since they did nothing to help her out.
    • The only exception to this trope are Emi and Ryou. Yuuko was horrible to end her friendship to Ayana just so she’ll let off steam, but realized the error of her ways once she realized their friendship was the only thing protecting Ayana from the bullies.
  • Nerd Glasses: Naoto Moritani and Mai Natsume sport this look.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Naoto Moritani posts on Twitter that he’s made Ayana “his girl” and boasts over how close they are. Then he’s forced to answer his claims to Ren, who previously forced Ayana to kiss him, but made it clear how much hatred he has on anyone that dares touch her without his permission. Cue No-Holds-Barred Beatdown.

    Yuuko Takishima

  • The Atoner: Tries to be this towards Ayana but felt too ashamed to express her remorse. Once Ayana came back from her hospitalization from her attempted murder by a classmate, she steps up against two boys bullying her, but walks off without saying a word afterward. She consults some friends at a nightclub of her worries, and they successfully encourage her to apologize to Ayana. Which she did plan to do the next morning, but Ayana had already exposed her secret double life to her parents since she didn’t know her former friend’s true intentions.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Deep down she does want to admit to Ayana over her guilt in making the bullying worse since she ended their friendship, but she feels too shy and unsure if Ayana would forgive her.
  • Class Representative: Serves as this to the entire class.
  • Dramatic Irony: Worries if it’s too late to make amends with Ayana, and Ayana has already had her vengeance on her former friend by faxing photos exposing her rebellion against her parents.
  • Driven to Suicide: She hangs herself once her parents imprison her until she graduates and forcibly enroll her in an all-girls high school deep in the mountains.
  • Dying Declaration of Hate: Thinking Emi is the one who faxed the pictures of herself visiting the nightclub, she secretly sneaks back her phone to deliver one final call; that to reveal her parents plans, intrust Ayana to her protection, and call Emi a traitor.
  • Hime Cut: Her hairstyle is this trope.
  • Kick the Dog: Once promised to help out Ayana from the bullying, but never showed up at the meeting. The next day, she exploded at Ayana over everyone’s expectations on herself. This makes Ayana cry, but she shames her for making it look like she’s the bad guy. When Ayana brings up their friendship, Yuuko ends it. She comes to regret this event, but little did she knew, Ayana had no intention on sparring her from her revenge.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Ending her friendship to Ayana also took away protection from the bullies, and she feels extremely guilty for this since she only meant to let off steam from her studies and dealing with her controlling parents.
  • My Greatest Failure: Cutting ties with Ayana is this for her. She truly did care for her friend but shut her down at a moment of vulnerability, which made the bullying a whole lot worse on Ayana. Her club-friends encouraged her not to kick herself over this and go out and apologize before it’s too late.
  • Oh, Crap!: She understandably has this reaction once her parents find out her double-life against their “education plan” and outright declare their intent to lock her up and never let her so much as walk outside.

    Emi Kuboda

  • The Atoner: She starts to feel remorseful for abandoning Ayana once Yuuko is gone. It’s because of this she stands up to the bullies.
  • Big Damn Heroes: She walks in as Ayana is getting drowned in the bathroom sink by a Gang of Bullies and she demands they back off unless they want their teacher to receive a newly recorded video of their attack.
  • Bully Hunter: Like Ryou, she also has a reputation as the “ally of justice” and proves this when she demands Mao, Shiori, Yui, and Anna to back off from their assault on Ayana.
  • Heel Realization: She started to realize how terrible it was to abandon Ayana once Yuuko is out of the picture.
  • Kind Hearted Cat Lover: She owns two cats and loves to text pictures of them.
  • Phoneaholic Teenager:
  • Nice Girl: Easily one of the nicest girls in this story, and the only one to warm up Ayana’s heart with her apology.
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: Just as she mends her friendship with Ayana, she accidentally falls to her death.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Was this towards Ayana and Miho. It ended when Miho shifted towards a bad crowd while she left Ayana when Yuuko ended their friendship. She regrets leaving Ayana and quickly stands up for her once Yuuko is “sick”. They successfully mends their friendship, but it doesn’t last.

    Ryou Kitaura

  • The Atoner: By the end of their series, he turns himself in for his murder of Daisuke, since his guilt has catches up to this point.
  • Beware the Nice Ones:
  • Bully Hunter: His friends noted that he has a strong sense of justice, so they would always lure him away around the same time Ayana is getting horrifically bullied. Then he finds out what Ren and his underlings did to her. This leaves him on a crusade against them.
  • Death Glare:
  • Love Confession: He did this trope to Ayana. In the past, he confessed his love towards her due to her helpful and kind nature. It seemed like she reciprocated… until she reveals she’s gotten bullied by his fan girls and shames him for not being considerate of her feelings. To hammer the point home, she kisses Naoto in front of him. In chapter 8, he finds out it was Ren that forced Ayana to reject him and kiss Naoto.
  • Nice Guy: He’s one of the few nicest characters in this entire story, but he does have his limits should you cross the line.
  • Rape and Revenge: Once he finds out
  • We Used to Be Friends: He was this with Ren back when they were kids, but fell out once Ren became a dangerous gangster.

    Rino Wakatsuki

     Yuuya Yamase Unmarked Spoilers

  • All of the Other Reindeer: As a little kid, he was bullied due to his family running a flower arranging business.
  • At Least I Admit It:
  • It Amused Me: He’s the one who’s truly responsible for everything wrong with Ayana’s life, just because he was bored.
  • Bastard Bastard: A major chip on his shoulder is being born out of wedlock, thus he could not inherit his father’s riches. He loathes his half-sister, Ayana, since she’s born from their father’s legal wife, but said father feels Yuuya is more deserving as his heir and attention.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones:
  • Cain and Abel: The Cain to Ayana’s Abel. They’re also each other’s second cousins since their father had Yuuya with his first cousin.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind:
  • Karma Houdini:
  • Manipulative Bastard: He’s the one who kickstarted the entire plot, from inspiring Mari to get her revenge on Ayana, arraigning Ryou and Ren to meet Ayana, and getting Ayana bullied, just because he felt like it.
  • Walking Spoiler: Hard to talk much about him since everything about him spoils everything.
  • We Used to Be Friends: He and Ryou were close friends with Ren as little kids, but fell out once he became a gangster. It seems like they mended their friendship, until Ren finds out he’s the one who set the entire plot in motion.
  • Would Hit a Girl: He gives a well earned slap to Mao for doing her usual thing. When Shiori tries to stand up to him, he scares her with a Death Glare, making it clear he won’t hold back any punches should she also stay out of line.

Other Characters

     Souichiro and Mrs. Fujisawa

Ayana’s parents.

The nicest they are around Ayana is ignoring her. Then Ayana’s father outright tells her she should have never been born, just because she found out his affair with his cousin and called him out. • Parental Favoritism: Ayana’s father prefers his son, Yuuya, because he was born out of his affair with his cousin. Mostly because of his good grades, but also because his mother was the only one he loved before her death. This caused a major chip in Yuuya’s shoulder since Ayana is his legitimate child while he’s not.
  • Parental Neglect: Their most kindest treatment towards Ayana is acting like she’s not around.

    Yuuko’s Parents

  • Abusive Parents: They’re both extremely possessive towards Yuuko and only care about her getting goods grades. They expect nothing but perfection and cruelly punish Yuuko whenever her grades fall short or if she dares to disobey them. Once they find out Yuuko has secretly visited a nightclub instead of attending cram school, the father slaps her as soon as she gets home. He harshly berates Yuuko for rebelling and the mother has the gall to ask her what’s so wrong with how they planned out her future. Then the mother dumps an entire bag of locks and declares that Yuuko will never leave the house and hire a private tutor for her studies. When Yuuko secretly takes her phone back from them, we’re shown that she’s covered in bruises and wearing a disheveled dress. She’s surrounded by textbooks of every subject and reveals that her parents are planning to enroll her into an all-girls high school in the middle of the mountains. And they’ve made good on their word to imprison Yuuko until she graduates, then ship her off to boarding school. Yuuko refuses to give them this satisfaction.
  • Education Mama: And papa to boot. If Yuuko’s grades fall below expectations, they severely punish her.
  • Foil: They’re this towards Ayana’s parents.
  • Frivolous Lawsuit: They want to sue their child’s middle school and the nightclub Yuuko regularly visited because they firmly believed both establishments are at fault for “corrupting” her.
  • Insane Troll Logic: So because Yuuko prefers to ditch cram school and hang out with friends at a nightclub, as a means to have her only freedom and stress relief from their strict parenting, automatically makes her “corrupted” and should force her to never leave her own home?!
  • Karma Houdini:
  • Never My Fault: They’re utterly horrified that Yuuko rebelled against their wishes and blame her friends and teachers for ruining her. They fail to realize their daughter is only human and not a machine to program to live their idea of a prefect citizen. All of this cumulated into driving Yuuko into taking her own life since they’ve imprisoned her, but the parents are more worried over suing the school.
  • No Name Given:

     Masaharu Fukushima

An old friend of Ayana and Miho from their old elementary school.

  • Childhood Friend: He’s this to Ayana and Miho.
  • Nice Guy: One of the few good-hearted characters without a mean bone in their body. It’s no wonder Ayana is happy to see him again once she transfers to his school.
  • Ship Tease: Flashbacks revealed Ayana had a big crush on him and admitted this to Miho. Then she overheard his Love Confession towards Miho, who turned him down. He takes this in stride though. At their elementary school graduation, Ayana profusely apologized to Miho because she realized she also liked him but didn’t want to let it get between their friendship.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He doesn’t show up until later, but his role brings up how much of a nice kid Ayana used to before the bullying began. And his father is a police sergeant looking into the case of Ayana’s old classmates “disappearing”.
