    Joins in Part One

Storch

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_062412_9.png

Class: Brawler → Gladiator

A Farm Boy from the imperial state of Belaro. Living with his parents and younger brother Marlen, he's still recovering from the death of his older brother, Augustyn, at the hands of bandits some years ago.

  • Anti-Armor: The Katzbalger deals effective damage against armored units.
  • Anti-Cavalry: The Katzbalger also deals effective damage against horseback units.
  • Broken Pedestal: Before the final chapter, he realizes Titus partook in the civil war to satisfy his thirst for power and loses his respect of him.
  • Commonality Connection: He bonds with Kusuma over the loss of their older siblings and the ensuing grief. It's the only truly romantic paired ending Storch has.
  • Did Not Get the Girl: He is particularly touched by this trope during his paired endings. He is turned down by Esfir, Naia and Larisa.
  • Embarrassing First Name: Apparently, Storch is short for Storchinski. It's so lame not even his parents call him by his full name anymore.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Including his signature weapon, the Katzbalger. Later on, he can also get the Cornhusker, which aside from giving a +3 to both Strength and Defense, also has innate Charm.
  • Heroic Neutral: At the end of the day, his only goal is to go back to Belaro to live quietly.
  • It's All My Fault: He blames himself for the death of his brother. He grows out of this by the end of Part 1.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Of the three lords, he is one of the fastest, but can also hit as hard as well as he can tank.
  • Old Flame Fizzle: He used to be in a relationship with Larisa. If they form an A-Support, Larisa reveals she feels like the both of them changed too much during their break-up to simply go back to what they were.
  • Official Couple: With Kusuma if they have an A Support and with a Belaro woman if he has an A Support with Vagelis.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: His Humble Hero characterization tends to harken back to Ike.
    • Deconstructed Character Archetype: In many ways, he demonstrates the dangers of a Humble Hero that’s too humble. Ike was confident enough to handle his growing reputation as a hero and wise enough to retire the Greil Mercenaries before they became a permanent tool for royals. Meanwhile, Storch allows his self-doubt to override his successes and realizes far too late that attaching his reputation with Titus gave the Lord the political power to become Emperor.

Esfir

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9536939d0d8f95dc45cb3c1c42c190d9d1828f96_2.png

Class: Thief → Rogue

Friend of Storch and mother of Lera, originally hailing from western Nevan. Her past is unclear and mysterious, though she might have ties to Nevanese nobility...

  • Crutch Character: Starts at Level 9, and her growth rates are only just enough to get her through to the end when her thief utility isn't taken into account.
  • Jack of All Stats: Compared to Otilie and Dreyfus, she has the most balanced stats and growths of the two, including middling Constitution. This means that she might not be the powerhouse that Otilie can potentially become, or steal weapons from the enemy a lot like Dreyfus, but is decent enough to do both, just not as much as the other two without a Body Ring or Kaya.
  • Mama Bear: Very protective of her daughter.

Lera

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9536939d0d8f95dc45cb3c1c42c190d9d1828f96_1.png

Class: Mage → Sage

The 15-year-old daughter of Esfir and close friend of Marlen. She was taught magic by the sage Vernon. It's currently unknown who her father is...

  • Child Mage: 15 years old and one of the first units you obtain.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Doesn't seem like it at first glance, but she has some nasty dialogues against bosses.
Lera: (to Gelt, chapter 10 boss) "What is it with you old, self-conscious men anyway?"
  • Implied Love Interest: With Marlen.
  • Magikarp Power: Starts out a bit underleveled, but if well trained, she can become a decent magical nuke.
  • Really Royalty Reveal: She's Titus's daughter.
  • Tagalong Kid: The youngest member of the starting roster by a considerable margin.

Vagelis

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_063523.png

Class: Bow Fighter → Warrior

A hunter from Belaro, and one of Storch's closest friends. He has a fraught relationship with his family, specifically his father.

  • Alcoholic Parent: His distant relationship with his father has much to do with his drinking habits. Although an attempt to reconnect goes wrong due to his drinking, he is able to get Vagelis's personal weapon, Sister's Hope, into the possession of his son if he visits a specific house in Chapter 1-10.
  • Brutal Honesty: His default method of communication.
  • Glass Cannon: His best stat by far is his Strength, with decent HP and Speed, but his Defense and Resistance are both sorely lacking.
  • The Stoic: According to Storch, he "wouldn't flinch if he was on fire." He tends to have an unflappable demeanor.

Arckady

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9536939d0d8f95dc45cb3c1c42c190d9d1828f96_2_1.png

Class: Axe Mercenary → Hero

Vagelis's cousin. A woodcutter and Casanova Wannabe, Arckady is probably the most relaxed and immature of the starting team.

  • Dumb Muscle: Not the brightest candle in the chandelier, but nonetheless reliable in a scrap.
  • Jack of All Stats: His stats are very well-rounded for an axe user, in line with him technically being a Mercenary and not the traditional Fighter.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: On Hard Mode, he's outdone in pretty much every way by Nazar, who gets stat bonuses on top of already having Wrath. Version 2 seeks to remedy this by giving him his own Prf, the Kasuyu - basically a cross between a Hatchet and a Swordreaver.

Larisa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9536939d0d8f95dc45cb3c1c42c190d9d1828f96_4.png

Class: Lance Armor → General

Daughter of a successful blacksmith, and Storch's ex-girlfriend. Increasingly frustrated by his distant behavior, she nevertheless helps his group defend their hometown from soldiers.

  • Pink Means Feminine: Her armor is a very bright pink. Stina even calls it “prissy.”
  • Strong and Skilled: Her Skill is among her best stats, so unlike many Armor Knights who will struggle to land hits, she has no trouble doing so.

Marlen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_064826.png

Class: Sword Cavalier → Paladin

A youngster from Belaro, and Storch's kid brother. Still wide-eyed and optimistic, he prefers to fight on horseback.

  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Starts as a Sword Cavalier, and has the Brother Sword in his inventory. Judging from its name and the fact that Augustyn's illusion wields it, it's heavily implied to be a Tragic Keepsake.

Onisim

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_065219.png

Class: Priest → Bishop

A former pirate who joined the church to atone for his past sins. He is a caring man who wishes the best for everyone and is happy to offer aid or advice when approached.

  • The Atoner: Became a priest to make up for his piracy days.
  • Confessional: He says he listens to confessions in his support with Michael, which the latter ultimately agrees to partake in.
  • Reformed Criminal: Was once a brutal pirate, but is now a regular, if very muscular priest.

Nazar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9536939d0d8f95dc45cb3c1c42c190d9d1828f96_5.png

Class: Pirate → Berserker

A pirate working for Borst's crew. His old comrade Onisim manages to convince him to give up his old life and turn over a new leaf after his boss starts targeting women and children.

  • Critical Status Buff: Wrath allows him to gain a crit boost whenever he has half of his health remaining. It pairs very well with his Berserker Crit Bonus.
  • Glass Cannon: Much like every Pirate, he isn't expected to take a hit well due to low defense and resistance growths, but makes up for it with a great strength and speed growth.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Has a terrible skill growth, but has one of the best strength and speed growths. Having Secret Books are a handy investment for him.

Dewi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9536939d0d8f95dc45cb3c1c42c190d9d1828f96_6.png

Class: Troubadour → Valkyrie

A healer and fugitive from Kuching who is trying her best to avoid returning home. She is constantly trying to keep her alcoholic brother Sri out of trouble.

  • Jack of All Stats: At least compared to her fellow Part I healers, her growths are actually fairly balanced, albeit with a lean toward speed over power.

Sri

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_070002.png

Class: Bow Scout → Forrest Knight (Ranger)

An archer and refugee from Kuching who has recently picked up a drinking habit. Despite being a loudmouth, he is very close to his sister, Dewi.

  • The Alcoholic: Is noted to be quite the drunkard. In his solo ending, this becomes fatal for him.
  • Deadly Distant Finale: If he's not paired with anyone, he dies of alcohol poisoning in his ending.

Gunnar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9536939d0d8f95dc45cb3c1c42c190d9d1828f96_7.png

Class: Sword Mercenary → Hero

A mysterious and antisocial swordsman who's found at a cult-infested graveyard. Little is known about his past, though he seems to have ties to The Order in some shape or form.

  • Ascended Extra: He is one of the main characters of the Epilogue.
  • Born Unlucky: Gunnar hasn't had the brightest past, and this is reflected with his terrible luck growth.
  • But Now I Must Go: Disappears when all is said and done, no matter what ending he gets. The Epilogue reveals that he goes into hiding after reclaiming the Dark Blade of Ove.
  • Dream Walker: The experiments by The Order sought to turn him into an assassin that kills people in their dreams. It's likely how he seemed aware of Storch's dream in 1-7xx, even if he denies it.
  • Mage Killer: He hunts and kills Order-affiliated dark mages, which is emphasized by his high Resistance and pitiful Defense.
  • Unwitting Test Subject: He was a regular mercenary before The Order began to experiment on him. The results turned him into the cold, nonsocial man he is today.

Osane

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9536939d0d8f95dc45cb3c1c42c190d9d1828f96_8.png

Class: Staff Mage → Sage

A half-Nevanese, half-Mahalan woman who went to visit a graveyard to learn more about her ancestors. Joins Storch's group alongside her brother Bosco when they are attacked by cultists.

  • Fragile Speedster: Her speed growth is phenomenal, meaning that after she promotes, enemies usually have a hard time hitting her.
  • Older Than They Look: She's 22, despite looking significantly younger. Ends up getting brought up in her support with Cashew when she has to turn him down in part thanks to their six-year age difference.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: After her Version 2.0 rework, she has a much higher Magic growth at the expense of a terrible Skill growth and base.

Bosco

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9536939d0d8f95dc45cb3c1c42c190d9d1828f96_9.png

Class: Soldier → Halberdier

Osane's older brother and an old friend of Augustyn, Storch's deceased brother. Works as a guardsman and is fiercely protective of his sister.

  • Big Brother Instinct: He's very protective of Osane. He's the reason she decides to train in anima instead of dark magic, or that she doesn't know any offensive magic at all until promotion.
  • Mighty Glacier: Of the playable Soldiers, he’s the slowest, but also the strongest and usually most durable.

Ruslan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_071248.png

Class: Lance Wyvern → Wyvern Lord

A free-spirited former knight from Balti who quit to become a mercenary. Objecting to his boss's treatment of prisoners, he left to help Storch kill the jailer and free the prisoners. His wyvern's name is Papillion.

Lajos

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9536939d0d8f95dc45cb3c1c42c190d9d1828f96_10.png

Class: Sniper

A sniper from Osturc who's dedicated to his family above all else. Distrusting of Nevanese due to the racism his people have faced, he nevertheless accepts their aid after he is imprisoned and forced onto the battlefield by the jailer.

  • Boring, but Practical: He’s hardly flashy, but his archery makes him excellent against the numerous Wyvern Riders you’ll face, and he can still provide adequate chip damage otherwise.
  • Crutch Character: His growths are fairly shaky, so his reliable, accurate chip damage is at its most valuable in the first two parts.

Titus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9536939d0d8f95dc45cb3c1c42c190d9d1828f96_11.png

Class: Mage Armor → Baron

Lord Gradin's nephew, a polite and friendly nobleman who is otherwise characterized by his intense ambition. His father is murdered at the start of the hack, and he aligns with Storch in an effort to both avenge him and extend his own influence.

  • Ambition Is Evil: While he is in his right during the campaign against Gradin, the whole of Part 4 is his selfish bid for more power.
  • Critical Hit Class: His high Skill combined with Wrath and Dire Thunder means he’ll be landing crits fairly often.
  • Deuteragonist
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: While not evil, he simply can't understand that Storch genuinely prefers his simple farm life over the life of a lord or noble.
  • Face–Heel Turn: The last cutscene of the game reveals that 16 years after the game, he is blackmailed by Horvath into attacking Mahala.
  • Lonely at the Top: Played with. While he misses all his companions and doesn't understand why they've stopped working for him after he became Emperor, he considers the sacrifice of their company worth it for his rise in power. On the other hand, after sixteen years of rule, he's still unmarried and childless, which eats at him.
  • Mighty Glacier: Of the three lords, he is the slowest, but can hit hard with Dire Thunder. Even without it, his magic will still pack a punch. This can be even more pronounced if he wields Dark Tomes, which is the heaviest of the magic, but hits the hardest.
  • The Red Mage: As a Baron, he can use all types of magic.

Helga

Class: Axe Wyvern → Wyvern Lord

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_072022.png
Lord Titus's bodyguard. She is a straightforward and serious woman who is constantly frustrated by her liege's scheming, yet remains loyal to the end in spite of it all.
  • Barbaric Bully: The knightly equivalent. She admits to being a terror in the knight's academy, to the point it cost her signficant promotions in
  • But Now I Must Go: Regardless of her support level with Titus, she ultimately leaves his service at the game's end.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: After all her loyalty, Titus' refusal to trust her with his plans ends up breaking their relationship.
  • Mighty Glacier: Her Speed is shaky, but she has great Strength to compensate.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Not her, but her wyvern winds up reciprocating the feelings of Ruslan's wyvern. Tragically, it's not meant to be.
  • Unsportsmanlike Gloating: Indulged in this during her days in the academy and its one of the core motivations for her rivalry with Lesley.

Otilie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_072234.png

Class: Thief → Rogue

A young girl from Belaro. Due to a rough home life, she's resorted to thievery to make a living and can be convinced to aid your party.

  • Ascended Extra: She is one of the main characters of the Epilogue. She's also one of the few to survive.
  • Glass Cannon: Hits the hardest of the three thieves, but still, keep her away from enemies that can hit her, especially against lance users.
  • Magikarp Power: Of the three potential Rogues you get, she has the lowest starting level and bases, but the highest growth rates, meaning she'll likely be the best combat unit of the three. She will, however, struggle with stealing due to having a low constitution.

Zoya

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_072441.png

Class: Soldier → Halberdier

A captain in Belaro's military, and the younger sister of General Lesley. Despite her closeness to her sister, she disagrees with Lesley's Undying Loyalty to Gradin and decides to join the resistance.

Hollace

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9536939d0d8f95dc45cb3c1c42c190d9d1828f96_12.png

Class: Sword Armor → General

A knight of Belaro who was convinced by Zoya to turncoat with her. He's constantly paranoid and fears for his own death, yet will fight by your side regardless.

  • Long-Lost Relative: He turns out to be Anisa's older brother.
  • Mighty Glacier: Possesses traditional Armor Knight growths: Slow, but tough and strong.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Every armored unit beats him out in the game. Larisa and Titus have unusually high speed growths, while Kir is a decent meatshield for Waluyo's team, and has a decent Prf weapon that can easily take down other armors. Not helping him is that he starts in the Sword Armor class, while multiple sword-wielding units are able to perform his job much better than him.
  • The Paranoiac: Although having his baby sister kidnapped in a raid will do that to someone.

Honeydew

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_073036.png

Class: Axe Mercenary → Hero

A mercenary originally hailing from the Belaro countryside. She's cheerful and friendly with a love of food, and life on the farm has made her hard-working.

Sarka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_073323.png

Class: Paladin

A subordinate of General Erasmus of Nevan. After Erasmus speaks to Titus in the middle of a battle, he is convinced to send Sarka to join their rebellion since he can't interfere directly.

  • Crutch Character: She's a prepromoted Paladin, and initially the only one you get if Marlen wasn't promoted into Paladin. She can still contribute to the army with her Lance rank until Erasmus arrives.
  • Flowers of Femininity: She gardens as a hobby, specifically flowers.
  • Fragile Speedster: Once her time as a Crutch Character is over, she’ll at least have this going for her.

Duck

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_073516.png

Class: Axe Cavalier → Great Knight

A sharp-tongued, eyepatch-wearing traveler and mercenary. He's been dealt a bad hand in life, though being hired to defend Castle Belaro leads him to question his allegiances.

  • Born Unlucky: Dude has been through a lot, and his attempts to make things better don’t always work out.
  • Defector from Decadence: Eventually reveals that he used to be a knight until he abandoned his post after most of his squad was killed in an attack. This leads to him being on the receiving end of a "The Reason You Suck" Speech by Stina, who had a relative die in the same attack, though they patch things up in their ending.
  • Did Not Get the Girl: Briefly dates Helga in their paired ending, but it ultimately doesn't work out.

    Joins in Part Two

Tien

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_20230527_151255_chrome.jpg

Class: Monk → Bishop

A traveling monk originally from Mahala. He was stopping at a town in Belaro when a gang of bandits began attacking, leading him to assist the militia in its defense.

  • But Now I Must Go: Goes on a journey at the end and is never seen again. Freyja or Cassius can join him if they get an A-rank support.

Freyja

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_073659.png

Class: Axe Fighter → Warrior

A woodcutter from Belaro and a member of her town's militia. Very straightforward, she meets up with Storch's group after they arrive to assist in driving out the bandits plaguing her town.

Naia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_073843.png

Class: Myrmidon → Swordmaster

A Mahalan swordfighter currently employed by Obermueller. She knows Storch from back when she used to be romantically involved with Augustyn, his older brother.

  • Boring, but Practical: Compared to Zuljalal, who joins later and has Wrath, she joins much earlier than him, and has enough availability to grow into a decent Swordmaster, and Vantage can be used to prevent enemies from getting the jump on her, especially if she wields 1-2 sword such as the Thunder Sword.
  • Glass Cannon: Fast, and her Strength has a not-insignificant chance of capping out, though as a result, she’s very fragile.

Dreyfus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_074103.png

Class: Rogue

A rogue from Freyung and a member of Obermueller's crew. Driven primarily by a love of money, he nevertheless cares about those he's close to, including his brother Michael.

  • Big Brother Instinct: He's quite protective of Cashew, and was supportive of his actual younger brother prior to him running off.
  • Fragile Speedster: Of the three Rogues/Thieves you get, he is the fastest, yet also the most frail of them.
  • Utility Party Member: He has the highest constitution of the three thieves you get, meaning that he can put Steal+ to good use by stealing enemy weapons as long as he's faster than them. Body Rings further enhance his stealing capabilities.

Cashew

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_074315.png

Class: Archer → Sniper

A young archer working for Obermueller as a carpenter. He's constantly out to prove himself, as well as wanting to find out more about his father.

  • Mage Killer: The highest Resistance growth of the potential Snipers, contrasting his awful Defense.
  • Magikarp Power: If the player is able to withstand his low level and train him up, he can become a decent Sniper.
  • Tagalong Kid: For Obermueller's boat crew, even if 19 years old is still technically adulthood.

Vernon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_074528.png

Class: Sage

A wise sage from Balti, the capital of Nevan. He once taught Lera how to use magic, and reunites with her in Mahala before a fight breaks out in the middle of the desert.

  • Cool Old Guy: Might be the oldest member of your party, and he's well-liked by people he's familiar with.
  • Mighty Glacier: Magical example. His magic growths, alongside resistance are decent enough to last him throughout the game. However, his speed, while having a good base, has a low growth rate at 20%. It's recommended to give him at least 2 Kayas or Speedwings if one plans to use him long-term.
  • Utility Party Member: Even if his offenses are compromised, he can still contribute with Spur Magic, which allows allies to deal +3 magic damage.

Hokulani

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_074730.png

Class: Lance Pegasus → Falcoknight

A pegasus knight of Mahala, and member of the royal guard. She is a loyal soldier who assists Storch and Titus in the defense of queen Akela against an attack by cultists.

  • Mighty Glacier: Her growths are built like this, which is unusual for a character of her class. Still, her speed will prove to still be decent in the long run thanks to its high base.

Mango

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_074927.png

Class: Sword Mercenary → Hero

A swordfighter who's made a name for herself as an arena fighter in Freyung known as the Orange Scorn. It appears her and Duck have history together...

Menahan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_075211.png

Class: Soldier → Halberdier

A knight-captain of Ofenloch, in service to Lord Lori, and a martial arts enthusiast. He, along with a pair of cavaliers, assists Storch in taking down a disgraced former noble at the Wabooz Canal.

  • Fragile Speedster: By far the most fragile of your potential Halberdiers, but makes up for it with the best Speed of the bunch.

Jae

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_075341.png

Class: Sword Cavalier → Paladin

A cavalier from Ofenloch, and friend of Selanne. She has a passion for art, and will often carry art supplies with her into battle.

  • Fragile Speedster: Her Strength leaves something to be desired, but she'll be considerably faster than Marlen on average.

Selanne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/9536939d0d8f95dc45cb3c1c42c190d9d1828f96_13.png

Class: Lance Cavalier → Paladin

A cavalier from Ofenloch, and friend of Jae. She has a habit of skywatching and is often fixated on the current weather.

  • Glass Cannon: Unlike her fellow Ofenloch knights, her Strength is her best asset.

Rakkaus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_075742.png

Class: Berserker

An axe fighter from Nevan with a history of raiding and pillaging. He assists Tompkins in defending the canal until he realizes he's on a sinking ship and decides to turn a new leaf.

  • Big Brother Mentor: He eventually becomes this for Cashew in their supports.
  • Deadpan Snarker: For a brigand, he's got a surprisingly sharp wit and a clever sense of humor. His support with Titus highlights this particularly well, where they playfully banter about dancing together.
  • Glass Cannon: Being a large man with an axe in a Fire Emblem game, this is hardly a surprise.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He comes off as rough and rude at times, but if you do something nice to him he'll be genuinely touched by it and won't forget it.

    Joins in Part Three

Waluyo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_080939.png

Class: Great Chief

The chief of one of Kuching's tribes, the Rhajawali. He is the POV character of Part 3, in which he leads a band of soldiers in a fight against invading Nevanese soldiers.

  • Crutch Character: A unique Lord variant, though he'll usually remain useful throughout the game.
  • Glass Cannon: Of the three lords, he is one of the fastest and hardest hitting, but his defenses and resistance take hit, and god forbid he go near an Anti-Cavalry weapon.
  • Horse Archer: Can also use bows.

Kusuma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_081204.png

Class: Sword Scout → Forrest Knight

A loyal and courageous soldier of Kuching. She fights alongside Waluyo in his efforts against Nevan's invasion.

  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Being the Storch to Waluyo’s Titus, of course she wields swords into battle.
  • Jack of All Stats: Her stats are extremely balanced.
  • It's Personal: Averted. She's obviously upset when she learns Storch's team is responsible for killing her sister, but she forces herself to move past her grief for the sake of the wider conflict. She can even end up marrying Storch in one ending, one of her sister's potential killers.

Surya

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_082126.png

Class: Brigand → Berserker

A brawler from Kuching who fights alongside Waluyo. He is incredibly bold, and always ready to run head-first into danger with an axe in his hand.

  • Strong and Skilled: Unlike Nazar, he has a surprisingly good skill growth, which is about the same as his huge strength growth. This means he can effectively serve as filler for Nazar if one is unwilling to invest Secret Books to him.

Bulan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_082426.png

Class: Shaman → Druid

A fortune teller working for Waluyo. Definitely in love with her job, her abilities prove useful in Kuching's efforts against Nevan.

Michael

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_082617.png

Class: Bard

A bard from Freyung, and Dreyfus's younger brother. He ran away from home due to his parents not approving of his sexuality or general life decisions, and soon he winds up performing for Waluyo's party.

  • Functional Addict: Relies on tobacco and alcohol to calm down, and a mention of "jazz cigarettes" in 3-3x implies he also smokes cannabis. Notably, he agrees to cut down on the first two at the end of the chapter, but never says anything about the latter.
  • Older Than They Look: Despite looking rather young, he's actually twenty-three.
  • The Twink: Bulan even compares him to a chipmunk in their support, and given how small his stature is, it doesn't come out of nowhere.
  • Wandering Minstrel: He becomes this after leaving Freyung, which is how he ends up in Kuching to begin with.

An archer from Kuching who fights on foot. Despite being Nevanese in origin, she does not consider it her home, finding comfort in the home of her youth instead.

Kir

Class: Axe Armor → General

A soldier of Nevan. Despite his wife being from Kuching, it takes a conversation with Waluyo for him to fight alongside them instead.

  • Happily Married: To a Kuchingi woman. She serves as his main motivation to fight alongside Waluyo despite being a knight of Nevan.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: Is an Axe Armor, though his prf weapon, the Toss Axe, deals effective damage against armors, making it a Hammer with an Hand Axe's range.

Cajon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_084045.png

Class: Lance Cavalier → Paladin

A duke of Mostyn. A model of nobility, he decides to fight alongside Waluyo directly when his country refuses to take a stance.

Stina

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_084259.png

Class: Axe Cavalier → Great Knight

A knight of Mostyn, loyal to Cajon. Though incredibly dour, she puts up with her superior's more over-the-top mannerisms out of a strong sense of duty.

  • Butch Lesbian: Turns out to be this in her support with Bulan.
  • Consummate Professional: Will regularly chew others out for not taking the current battle seriously, much to the chagrin of her comrades.
  • Flowers of Femininity: Her portrait changes to have one if you get her to an A-support with Bulan.
  • Rugged Scar: Right around her eye. Apparently, her ex gave it to her after a heated argument when the ex's family found out about their relationship. She says she's lucky her eye wasn't damaged.
  • Undying Loyalty: Her loyalty to Mostyn is all she has, as far as she's concerned.

Onderdonk

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_084631.png

Class: Wyvern Lord

A kind, older mercenary from the mountains of Nevan. Self-taught and not overly intelligent, his desire to help leads him to aiding Waluyo in the defense of some civilians.

Zakawat

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_085331.png

Class: Mage → Sage

A former swordfighter and old comrade of Zuljalal from Kuching. He gave up the life of a swordsman to live as a hermit, a life he is much more fond of.

  • Stone Wall: His high HP and Resistance make him more fit for defense than anything else, though being a Mage he can still do decent damage.

Zuljalal

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_085653.png

Class: Myrmidon → Swordmaster

A swordfighter from Kuching. Initially planning to join Hindrawan's forces, he winds up joining Waluyo directly instead after dragging Zakawat away from his mountain home.

  • Critical Status Buff: Starts with Wrath, which when combined with the high skill cap of Swordmasters and the +15 Crit bonus, can easily cause his attacks to almost be composed entirely of critical hits.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Unlike Naia, it takes a bit of investment to have him blossom as a Swordmaster. Enough investment, and he can easily crit units to death, though his weapon rank can lead him trailing behind a bit.
  • Hot-Blooded: Unusually for a myrmidon unit, he's much more boisterous and easily excited.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The Red Oni to Zakawat's Blue Oni.

Batari

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_085824.png

Class: Valkyrie

A priestess and healer from Kuching. Out of a desire to help, she joins Waluyo's forces in their final battle against Nevan.

  • Combat Medic: Being a prepromoted Valkyrie, she can wield both light magic and staves at base.
  • Fragile Speedster: Has a defense growth of 5%, though she has a fair chance to cap her Speed.

    Joins in Part Four

Erasmus

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_090122.png

Class: Paladin

A paladin from the imperial army, notably sympathetic toward Storch and Titus from the very beginning. He's the one who sends Sarka to join them and ultimately joins them himself when a civil war breaks out.

  • Lightning Bruiser: Starts out near the caps of the Paladin class, which is a good thing considering his join time. Furthermore, his skill Knight Aspirant encourages this, as he gains a damage and avoid bonus if his health is at least above 75%.
  • Sixth Ranger: While he does appear later in Part One, it isn't until the beginning of Part Four where he ultimately joins.

Timmonen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_090301.png

Class: Halberdier

A soldier loyal to Lomsk. When Lady Sigrid turns out to be alive and with Titus, he gladly joins them in their battle against the rest of Nevan.

  • Straight Gay: Comes out to Michael in their support.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Lomsk, to the point of him siding with a rebellion because of Sigrid's association with them.
  • Younger Than They Look: He's around his late-20s, yet his experience leaves him looking older than he really is.

Sigrid

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_090434.png

Class: Monk → Bishop

Daughter of the head of the state of Lomsk. Her supposed "death" leads to the war between Nevan and Kuching, and her survival helps spark the civil war in Part 4.

  • Death Faked for You: By Horvath, it turns out, though it was pretty much involuntary.
  • Experience Booster: Her personal skill is Elite, allowing her to gain double experience.
  • Light 'em Up: She wields Light Magic, most notably Soma Thera, her Brave personal tome.
  • Living MacGuffin: She, or rather the fact she isn't dead at all, is the proof that the war against Kuching is a False Flag Operation by Festan.
  • Magikarp Power: Joins as a squishy unpromoted unit at a point where all of your units should already have been promoted, but has the best growths of any playable unit and tools to level her to compensate.
  • You Killed My Father: Attempts to get her revenge against Horvath for killing Sjohstrom, her father.

Cassius

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_090543_7.png

Class: Druid

A druid from The Order. He is sick and tired of the corruption inside The Order, and joins Titus's forces in the battle against Horvath, the man responsible for its current state.

  • Ascended Extra: He is one of the main characters of the Epilogue.
  • But Now I Must Go: Disappears after he goes on a journey to prove that Horvath survived their battle. It turns out he was right, and he possibly ends up being killed by Anwen for his troubles.
  • Summon Magic: One thing that separates him from other Druids is that he has the unique Summon Skill, which allows him to summon a dark-magic wielding chicken called Custer.
  • Uncertain Doom: In the Epilogue, we last saw him confronting Anwen but Gunnar is shown having faith about his survival.

Anwen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_090700_3.png

Class: Bishop

The right hand of the Divine Bishop of Orebro. Currently on a mission, she joins Storch and Titus when they stop by the village she's staying in during a battle.

  • Combat Medic: Starts out as a Bishop, meaning that not only she can use staves, she can also use light magic as well.
  • Face–Heel Turn: She joins The Order shortly after the events of the main story, as seen in the bonus final chapter. She ends up turning Tien, Freyja and Radoslav into statues for their troubles.

Zuzana

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_091025.png

Class: Hero

A high-ranking Nevanese soldier. Despite being tasked with guarding imperial prisoners, she can be convinced to join your army if she gets a chance to spar with Erasmus.

  • 11th-Hour Ranger: The second-to-last party member you receive, she's only useable for a total of two maps.
  • Anti-Frustration Features: Don't worry if you had to fufill her recruitment condition by having Erasmus attack her and she gets KO'd; She still joins you regardless.

Lori

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20211023_091212.png

Class: Warrior

The lord of Ofenloch, in Nevan. Though initially loyal to the emperor, Ofenloch's safety due to Titus's actions leads her to join him at the tail-end of the war.

  • 11th-Hour Ranger: The final party member you receive, partway through the second-to-last map.

    Bosses

Turken

Class: Axe Armor

The leader of a town guard, and the first boss you fight in the game. He hates the poor.

  • Skippable Boss: Surprisingly enough, it is possible to avoid him, since the goal is to simply escape rather than fight him, and since he charges at the first unit he sees, depending on Storch's position or not, it's entirely possible to forgo fighting or not.

Cutter

Class: Brigand

A man who, much like our protagonists, has been forced into thievery to survive. In his case, he's joined a group of bandits in attacking a merchant caravan.

  • Starter Villain: The first mandatory boss fight in the game, and he's mostly a pushover compared to the rest of the bosses.

Ghirken

Class: Axe Fighter

The leader of a gang of bandits, and Cutter's superior. He takes advantage of the poor situation the citizens of Belaro are living in and attacks Storch's hometown.

Ivy

Class: Shaman

A dark mage from the Order. When Gunnar leads Storch to a secluded part of the graveyard, she is among the cultists they wind up fighting.

Garrison

Class: General

A commander stationed in Ft. Osbar for several years. Though he holds no ill will toward the rebels, he fights them out of a sense of duty to protect his fort.

  • Punny Name: His name is the term for a group of soldiers stationed in a fort. He's absolutely obsessed with the fort he's in charge of.

Lesley

Class: Halberdier

The head general of Belaro, and Zoya's older sister. An immensely loyal and feared soldier, she's a consistent thorn in the side of Storch throughout part one until she's stationed to defend Castle Belaro at the end.

  • Berserk Button: While she's frequently stern and oppressive in her duties, she generally maintains her composure and her battle quotes are largely dismissive towards her opponents. Facing Helga puts her in a frothing rage as she attempts to strike down her old school rival.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Her first appearance is in the very first chapter, where she serves to prevent you from turtling at the start.
  • My Country, Right or Wrong: Is even willing to kill her own sister when she (along with the rest of Storch's army) comes to take Castle Belaro.
  • Undying Loyalty: Gradin saved Lesley and Zoya from poverty and helped propel them to the stations they keep in the present. No matter how corrupt Gradin has become, she refuses to turn her back on him.

Gradin

Class: General

Head of the state of Belaro, responsible for the harsh taxes that have been levied against its population. His primary concern is keeping the Emperor, Festan, happy, and is happy to jail his own people as a result.

  • Disc-One Final Boss: The final boss of the first of four parts.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Pressure from the Empire gradually changed the benevolent, orphan-rescuing mentor to the paranoid thug he became in the game proper.

Reichard and Purcell

Class: Rogue (Both)

Two bandits that raid a fort for their supplies.

  • Acrofatic: Reichard is surprisingly agile for a fat bandit.
  • Dual Boss: In a bit of a twist of the usual "bandit twins" archetype, Purcell doesn't arrive until a few turns have passed.
  • Fat Bastard: Reichard is most definitely this due to raiding a fort and coming in conflict with Storch's army.
  • Fragile Speedster: Unusually for bandit twins, rather than being in axe-wielding classes, they are instead Rogues who prefer to dodge attacks.

Reisma

Class: Wyvern Lord

A knight captain of Nevan. A man with an intense hatred of Kuching, he enjoys the opportunity to corner and kill Waluyo's remaining forces.

Yogya

Class: Forrest Knight

The chief of the Kalijaga tribe in Kuching. Six years before the events of the hack, he and his tribe skirmished with Waluyo's tribe when he attempted to hunt a herd of young gazelle along the borders of their territory.

  • Killed Offscreen: By another chief, after he attempted his hunting-in-another-tribe's-territory scheme again.

Rodman

Class: Bishop

An excommunicated priest who now does mercenary work for Nevan. He has been contracted to round up and capture Osturc civilians.

Horvath

Class: Druid

Emperor Festan's close advisor, and a high-ranking member of the cult known as The Order. He is known to make shady deals with politicians in order to advance his cult's position in the world, and is largely responsible for the amoral experiments and general practices The Order is known for.

  • Blackmail: His go-to M.O. He blackmails Festan with the knowledge of his Dead Person Impersonation. He does the same with Titus and his sterility.
  • Magical Sensory Effect: He appears to be able to sense the bloodline of old dynasties. Which is likely how he figured about Festan's commoner blood and Lera's relationship with Titus.
  • The Man Behind the Man: The deal he cut with Festan is the main reason why the latter even became the Big Bad, down to even the taxes in Belaro: The prisoners who were taken in due to being unable to pay their taxes are heavily implied to have become victims of the Order's experiments.
  • Patriotic Fervor: He reveals in his battle quote with Anwen that he wishes to expend The Order with the purpose of strengthening Orebro as a whole, who is a poor nation with only religion as its saving grace.

Bromhilda

Class: Wyvern Lord

A general of Nevan. Though she has her reservations regarding the war similar to her comrade Erasmus, she ultimately decides to remain aligned with the Emperor and predictably dies as a result.

  • My Country, Right or Wrong: The truest example of a Camus archetype this hack has to offer, even with other bosses like Lesley or Alexander fitting such bills as well.

Fredericks

Class: Paladin

The loyal guardian of Emperor Festan. Even with his disagreements with Horvath, he remains loyal to the end even as Titus comes knocking at the castle's doors.

  • Skippable Boss: Given how the map is structured and Festan's tendency to rush down the left side of the map toward whichever blue units are there, it's extremely possible you never engage with him in combat at all even with his movement speed.

Festan

Class: Baron

The Emperor of Nevan, and the most powerful and influential man in the country. He is determined to keep his grip on power no matter the odds, and reluctantly cuts a deal with Horvath and makes him his advisor as a result.

  • Really Royalty Reveal: Inverted. He was never royalty to begin with, just a youth from Balti who has been forced to impersonate the real Festan for thirty-five years due to his impulsive friend murdering him.
