Princes and Princesses (Elena's age)

    Prince Alonso

Prince Alonso

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/princealonso.jpg
Voiced by: Tyler Posey

The layabout prince of Cordoba.

  • Birds of a Feather: He and Valentina are both enamored with their own looks, much to Rebeca's and Chloe's chagrin.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: By his later appearances, he's more willing to help even with his oversized ego.
  • Narcissist: He is enamored of his own reflection. His next appearance has him confront this side of himself and come to terms with it.
  • Ship Tease: He and Valentina commiserate in front of a mirror, and he even shoves her out of the way of Yolo's spell. They're later seen dancing at Elena's coronation together.
  • The Slacker: A lazy prince who would rather picnic and take Elena on a date than do the work his father assigned him. By his next appearance, he willingly volunteered for a diplomatic venture.

    Princess Chloe

"In Norberg, we don't hug, we squeeze!"''

The Princess of Norberg and the daughter of Queen Abigail.

  • Bear Hug: In Norberg, they don't hug, they SQUEEZE!
  • Deadpan Snarker: In "Coronation Day", when Alonso and Valentina are making remarks about themselves in the mirror, an annoyed Chloe asks Rebecca "Who do you think'll look away first?"
  • Disappeared Dad: Her father has yet to be seen.
  • Does Not Like Magic: Due to a wizard messing up, she accidentally turned Chloe and a bunch of other people into cupcakes at the princess's birthday party. Ever since, Chloe's had a fear of magic... and desserts, leading to her bursting into tears when Mateo shows off some magic tricks at another one of her birthday parties.
  • Foil:
    • To King Hector. Both have No Social Skills and their Character Development revolves around learning to be better around people. Hector is/was a rude and inconsiderate Psychopathic Man Child, while Chloe is a sheltered but friendly and well-meaning young girl.
    • To Princess Valentina. Both are princesses from rich kingdoms who come across as impolite and inconsiderate at first, and are overly basked within their own opinions, but ultimately wind up showing a much nicer side. But while Valentina bragged about how great Paraiso is in hopes of impressing Elena, Chloe is merely Innocently Insensitive and had No Social Skills, in addition to taking her lesson too well. And while Valentina solved her magical problem using magic herself, Chloe did so by Talking the Monster to Death.
  • Genki Girl: At least towards Gabe, whom she immediately attaches herself to by the hip when she first sees him.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In "The Birthday Cruise", she agrees to stay with Maliga forever if it means she'll let her friends go. This results in Maliga's Heel–Face Turn, which convinces her to let Chloe go as well, prompting the immortality curse inflicted on her to be broken.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Expresses this desire in "The Birthday Cruise", revealing she has trouble befriending people due to her lack of filter.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: When Gabe laments that he didn't get to spend his day at Norberg with Naomi, Chloe understands and hints to him that it's typical for people to watch the Norberg lights with someone they care about.
  • Love at First Sight: Upon first seeing Gabe. She dashes over to him soon after and immediately suggests showing him (and the others) around the palace.
  • Motor Mouth: Prior to her Character Development in "The Birthday Cruise", as a result of her No Social Skills.
  • Nice Girl: Although she spends most of her appearance lovestricken with Gabe, she also shows that she's a good person by offering him and the Turners to a tour of the palace as well as pushing for Gabe to pursue Naomi when he expresses guilt over not hanging out with the latter.
  • No Social Skills: In "The Birthday Cruise", she reveals she has trouble making friends. Elena determines that this is because she lacks tact when talking to people and is sometimes impolite without realizing it, which instead leads to Chloe attempting to be a Yes-Man for the rest of the episode until she realizes that it isn't the right way to do it either.
  • Ship Tease: With Gabe. They have a Love at First Sight moment and apparently spent the entire day together at the palace, not to mention that Naomi clearly looks upset that Gabe decided to spend time with Chloe instead of her and that Chloe is rather touchy with Gabe. However, Chloe notices that Gabe misses Naomi and wants him to spend time with his friend.
  • Token White: Chloe is the only one of Elena’s princess friends to be Caucasian.

    Princess Marisa

Princess Marisa

Voiced by: Gina Rodriguez (teenager), Gia Lopez (child)

"But even the sea and the land meet at the shore! We can bridge that gulf if we try."

The princess of the Sirenas.

  • All-Loving Hero: She sees the best in humans, and wants to do anything to show that the Sirenas have changed.
  • The Atoner: She wants to do anything to prove that the Sirenas are good now.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Like all her people, she has a hypnotic singing voice that can lure humans, but she's an All-Loving Hero who wishes to create peace between the humans and sirenas.
  • Foil: She greatly resembles Elena. Both are All Loving Heroines who are determined to do the right thing against all odds. However, Elena is the eldest child (and thus the crown heir) of her family, is mature (mostly), and has gone through traumatizing experiences that make her intimidating to set off, while Marisa is the youngest child of her family and is a Wide-Eyed Idealist.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: She and Marzel can turn their tails into legs on land because their mother Queen Camila was a human before being transformed into a sirena, although Camila herself can't.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: She does have an impulsive streak.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: She wants to bring about peace between the sirenas and humans, and whenever something goes wrong, she reasons that it is simply just that as opposed to worst-case scenario.
  • The Voiceless: She does not speak in "Marisa and the Mirror".

    Prince Marzel

Prince Marzel

Voiced by: Prince Royce

The prince of the Sirenas, and Princess Marisa's brother. As King Pescoro's firstborn child, he is the heir to the throne.

  • Bad Powers, Good People: Like all his people, he has a hypnotic singing voice that can lure humans, but he's the benevolent future king of the Sirenas who eventually comes to accept his sister's desire for peace.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He's very protective of Marisa.
  • Chick Magnet: He's very popular among sirena ladies, and even human girls find him attractive.
  • Fish out of Water: Quite literally in "Two Left Fins", where he fails to fit in with the other kings of the Royal Retreat and has much trouble with the land. Fortunately, he gains their admiration after he risks his life to stop them from remaining sirenas.
  • Foil: He greatly resembles Gabe physically and in personality. Both are rule-followers stuck with a headstrong and compassionate female counterpart. He and Gabe also have Ship Tease towards Elena.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: He and Marisa can turn their tails into legs on land because their mother Queen Camila was a human before being transformed into a sirena, although Camila herself can't.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's cynical and snarky, but also fiercely protective of Marisa. While he's mistrustful of Elena at first, he's friendly towards her after she proves she's sincere about wanting humans and sirenas to reconcile.
  • Ship Tease: With Elena. While Marisa sings "A New Tale", she dances with the two and throws them into each other's arms. They catch each other, but immediately awkwardly turn away from each other and pretend it didn't happen.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: He's much nicer to Elena and humans in general after "Song of the Sirenas".
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: He seeks to make his father and his people proud representing them on land at the royal retreat (which King Pescoro can't do).

    Princess Rebecca

Princess Rebecca

Voiced by: Jamie L. Sigler

The princess of Galonia.

  • Action Girl: While trying to escape from her ship during a storm, she throws a hook to shore despite being several yards away and hacks down the mast to make it into a makeshift bridge to the beach.
  • Meaningful Name: The name Rebecca is Hebrew in origin and means "servant of God", befitting that she is a representative of the show's Latino Jewish kingdom.
  • Nice Girl: She's very kind and interactive.

    Princess Valentina

Princess Valentina Montañez Tores

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/princessvalentina.jpg
Voiced by: Chrissie Fit

"If you come to Paraiso, we'll do the same... and a little bit more."

The princess of Paraiso, 17th heir to the throne.

  • Crazy-Prepared: She finally remembers to bring her tamborita in "Coronation Day" considering her previous two appearances involved some sort of magical mishap or incident.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Valentina means "strong, healthy" in Latin languages.
    • Her name brings to mind St. Valentine's Day. She sure seems to have a lot of love for herself.
    • In Spanish, Montañez means "from the mountains"/"mountain people" and Tores means "tower", befitting her haughty nature.
  • Nice Girl: She's really just a good kid, albeit initially misguided. After she drops the act, she's very nice.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Her main color is pink.
  • Stealth Pun: Her nickname is Val, and she comes from Paraíso. There's cities in Peru and Chile called Valparaiso.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The girly girl to Elena's tomboy, relatively speaking.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: After realizing in her debut episode that she doesn't need to act arrogant to be considered cool by Elena, she's a lot more humble in subsequent appearances and stops acting snobby.
  • Try to Fit That on a Business Card: Princess Valentina Montañez Tores of Paraiso, Defender of the Realm, The Shining Light Of The South, 17th Heir to The Golden Throne... and apparently, she has way more titles than that.

Princes and Princesses (Isabel's age)

    Prince Ari

Prince Ari

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4aefc474_0470_4243_bc53_16a6b6561ae8.jpeg

Voiced by: Julian Zane

The prince of Galonia.

  • Nice Guy: He's kind and interactive, and quickly bonds with Isabel.

    Princess Caterina

Princess Caterina

Voiced by: Marsai Martin

King Joaquin's young daughter.

  • Child Prodigy: Like Isabel, she's skilled in engineering and other sciences that would stump adults like her father despite her young age. She's responsible for Cariza's hydro-gondolas and helps Isabel with making one such system in Avalor City.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Downplayed, as she isn't malicious or much of a troublemaker, but she successfully convinces Isabel to climb up an unsafe structure so they can examine a mechanism at the top.

Kings and Queens

    Queen Abigail

Queen Abigail

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7194546f_966f_47d9_9c13_049f8bbd4fd3.jpeg

Voiced by: Andrea Martin

The Queen of Norberg.

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: In "Coronation Day", she causes Chloe to yell "Mom!" in exasperation and facepalm when she tells Elena the latter may have come far, but not as far as she has (in the literal sense).
  • Big Fun: She's a large woman and is fun to be around, although not to the Manchild extent of Hector.
  • Cool Old Lady: So long as you're not a jerk, she's a fun and friendly lady. And if you are a jerk, expect to be called out on it by her.
  • Foil: To King Hector. Both are loud and boisterous, but Hector has no manners and is a complete jerkass while Abigail is friendly to everyone (who isn't a jerk like Hector, anyways), has boundaries, and isn't afraid to call out jerkassery like Hector's.
  • Good Parents: She seems to be a good mother to Chloe, since she carries around a picture of herself and a younger Chloe celebrating Family Day and Chloe seems well-adjusted.
  • Nice Girl: Despite being overly boisterous, she's very fun, friendly, and interactive.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: She hugs Julio and squishes his cheeks when meeting him, having heard of him.
  • Womanchild: Not to the extent of Hector, but even she's not immune to getting into petty arguments with him.

    Queen Camila

Queen Camila

Voiced by: Rita Moreno

The queen of the Sirenas, and the mother of Princess Marisa and Prince Marzel. Years in the past, she nearly drowned after the ship she was on sunk, but King Pescoro saved her life by wrapping her body in magical seaweed, allowing her to breath. As a result of its magical properties, she was transformed into a sirena and the two fell in love.

  • Emergency Transformation: In order to save her from drowning, King Pescoro wrapped her in magic seaweed, transforming her into a sirena.
  • Was Once a Man: She used to be a human woman, but King Pescoro turned her into a sirena to save her from drowning.

    King Joaquin

King Joaquin

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kingjoaquin.jpg
Voiced by: Echo Kellum

The King of Cariza. He is one of the rulers that participates in the Royal Retreats.

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Ash uses a spell to mind-control him into luring Elena to Cariza in "Naomi Knows Best". She releases him once Elena is captured.
  • Butt-Monkey: Not a huge example, but he's been in magical mishaps, or even malefic, more often than not. He's turned into a sirena in a transformation that nearly becomes permanent, brainwashed by Ash, eats chocolate filled with Elena's anxiety magic, and brainwashed again by Vuli.
  • The Good King: After Elena helps him get free of Hector's influence, he proves himself to be a kindly and intelligent leader who cares about the wellbeing of those around him.
  • Nice Guy: He's very kind and polite.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: In addition to being king, he is also a skilled olaball player.

    King Juan Ramon

King Juan Ramon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eoa_king_ramon.PNG
Voiced by: Anthony Mendez

King of Cordoba, a kingdom which is separated from Avalor by a large body of water.

  • The Good King: A wise and virtuous ruler who even rides into battle against a powerful monster that is attacking his subjects, despite the risks to himself.

    King Lars

King Lars

Voiced by: Jeff Bennett

The King of Maarswik. He is one of the rulers that participates in the Royal Retreats.

  • Sweet Tooth: He loves Avaloran chocolate.
  • Sycophantic Servant: Even though he's a king in his own country, he still acts like this to Hector. He stops after Elena talks some sense into them.

    King Pescoro

King Pescoro

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elena_of_avalor_king_pescoro.PNG
Voiced by: Edward James Olmos

"I'm sorry. I'm afraid the gulf between our worlds is too wide."

The king of the sirenas, and the father of Princess Marisa and Prince Marzel.

  • The Atoner: He is burdened with the knowledge of what his ancestors and even he himself have done to humans, and feels like sirenas should have nothing more to do with humans (whom he believes will always justifiably hate them) as penance.
  • Defrosting Ice King: He initially wants nothing to do with the humans, thinking that they still hate sirenas, but he does turn to command the other sirenas to help Elena and company.
  • Expy: Of King Triton, being a king who mistrusts the surface world because of their treatment of merpeople, especially towards his family. While unreceptive to his daughter's attempts at reaching out to the humans, he comes around when he realizes they should work together to defeat a common enemy and they end up creating a connection.
  • Heel Realization: Saving and falling in love with Camila made him realize that the murderous hatred his kind had long felt toward humans was wrong, and he is deeply remorseful about it.
  • I Am a Monster: When two humans almost took his daughter away from him because they immediately assumed that he was trying to lure her to a watery death, he became convinced that humans will never see him and his kind as anything other than murderous creatures, and gave up on the notion of reconciliation between the two species.
  • Love at First Sight: He first met Camila when she was a regular human who almost drowned. He used magical seaweed to save her, and they fell in love afterwards.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is derived from the Latin root word, pisci-, meaning "fish".

    King Raja

King Raja

Voiced by: Aasif Mandvi

The King of Napurna. He is one of the rulers that participates in the Royal Retreats.

    King Santiago

King Santiago

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b9bb8516_37a5_417d_86c9_439f7aba7b1e.jpeg

The king of Paraíso and Princess Valentina's father.

  • Bait-and-Switch: At the beginning of "The Incredible Shrinking Royals", Julio voices intent to invite him to the Feast of Friendship, only for Valentina to show up, who then explains that her father wanted her to have more diplomatic experience.
  • The Ghost: In "The Incredible Shrinking Royals", Julio intended to invite him to the Feast of Friendship, but he instead sent Valentina so that she could prep for future diplomatic meetings when she becomes queen. However, we do see a mini mazapan figure of him and a painting of him in Avalor Palace.

    Queen Teresa

Queen Teresa

Joaquin's wife and queen of Cariza.

    King Toshi

King Toshi

Voiced by: George Takei

The king of Satu.

  • Easily Forgiven: He easily forgives Elena for trying to juggle between her promise to her sister and his visit, as he has a brother of his own and the people of Satu value promises.
  • Nice Guy: Forgives Elena for skipping out on his visit to help her sister, and would rather see people be their own thing instead of trying to please everyone else like when Esteban and the others thought that he would like them to use Satu culture instead of their own during his visit.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: In "The Incredible Shrinking Royals", he admits to trying to stay neutral amidst arguments, but when King Hector tries to blame Queen Abigail for their predicament, King Toshi runs out of patience and tells him that it's his fault and sides with Abigail.
  • Sibling Team: He says that he never goes anywhere or does anything without his brother Shoji.

Officials and government staffers

    Daria

Reef Commander Daria

Voiced by: Rosario Dawson

Reef Commander of the Sirenas.

  • Expy: Of Disney Fairies' Nyx, another Disney Expanded Universe character voiced by Rosario Dawson (in addition to Craig Gerber being a writer for the Disney Fairies films). Nyx was also a strict and stern leader of her species' protectors. Though Daria takes her job too far, Nyx's paranoia is still reasonable given the circumstances of her story and both realize their mistake when they see their people getting hurt by their attempts at protecting them.
  • Freudian Excuse: She hates humans because she was scarred by one in an attack.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Daria attempts to prevent the treaty from being signed because she still distrusts surface-dwellers, but after being betrayed by Saloso and seeing her kingdom pay the price of her own treachery, she decides to make up for it by helping drive out the malandros and being the one to sign the treaty on behalf of her people.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: She thinks surface-dwellers can't be trusted, yet she turned to a known criminal to help her achieve her goals (which inevitably backfires on her).
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's rude and hostile to Elena even before setting out to undermine the treaty. Despite her issues, however, she just wants what's best for Coronado.
  • Meaningful Name: Her name means "he who holds firm the good".
  • Moral Myopia: She hates humans for their hostility toward her species, despite the fact that they had brought it on themselves as a result of sinking human ships for years.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She has this reaction when Saloso double crosses her and seizes their kingdom.
  • The Voiceless: Like Marisa in "Marisa And The Mirror", she does not speak in her focus short "Feeling Clammy" . note
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: She wanted to stop the peace treaty between the humans and the sirenas because she believed that Humans Are Bastards after her past experience with them.

    Manuel

Manuel

Voiced by: Alex Hernandez

One of Valentina's servants.

    Nathaniel

Ambassador Nathaniel

Voiced by: Trevor Devall

An ambassador from the kingdom of Norberg.

  • Big Eater: His defining personality feature.

    Rivas

Captain Rivas

Voiced by: Victor Turpin

A captain in the guard forces of Cordoba.

    Shoji

Shoji

Voiced by: James Sie

The brother of Satu's King Toshi. He represents Satu in trade negotiations.

  • Meaningful Name: The Shoji era is a Japanese era. It took place during the Kamakura period, in which medieval times (feudalism) first began in Japan under the titular shogunate, as opposed to the imperial government that it replaced.
  • Rage Breaking Point: He usually appears to be very calm and levelheaded, but when he puts on a magical mask which accentuates the worst aspect of his personality, all the rage he's been storing up bursts out.

Other outsiders

    Bronzino

The Great Bronzino

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2f994dd5_6aa8_45e1_8db3_97afbe8dba7b.jpeg

A sorcerer from Hectoria hired by Gabe to teach magic to the Avaloran Guard, who turns out to be more flash than substance.

  • Actor Allusion:
    • He resembles the Genie from the Broadway version of Aladdin, whom James Monroe Iglehart also played as.
    • He has a moon (and star) motif; ironically, Lance was the only main human in Tangled: The Series outside of Rapunzel who didn't have a moon motif.
  • Broken Pedestal: Becomes this to the Royal Guard after he flees instead of trying to fix the gingerbread problem.
  • Cosmic Motifs: Moon and stars.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Upon being asked to restore the palace back to normal (after it was transformed into gingerbread), he doesn't know how to do it so he goes away. Fortunately, Mateo solves the problem.

    Sir Cassius

    Miriam

Voiced by: Tovah Feldshuh

Rebeca and Ari's grandmother.

  • Nice Girl: She's very accepting of Elena and her family.

    Ocho

Ocho

A talking octopus who hangs out with Daria.

  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's suspicious and even hostile to humans, even without provocation. However, he's still a good person regardless.
  • Meaningful Name: In Spanish, "ocho" means "eight", and you know, octopuses are known for having eight arms.

    Veronica

Veronica

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bf2ff40e_3ed1_4bce_9fa7_ccfb9b67420c.jpeg
Voiced by: Auli'i Cravalho

A childhood friend of Naomi, now a solo captain of her own ship.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Like Naomi's parents, she calls her Nomes. Naomi calls her V, a courtesy that Veronica extends to Elena.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Presumably, she's the Ever Realm equivalent of Pacific Islander, if her voice actress is anything to go by.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: She asks Naomi what she really wants, because being on the Grand Council clearly isn't something she'll be happy with for the rest of her life.
  • But Now I Must Go: She leaves Avalor before she can say goodbye to Naomi, but leaves her hat and Naomi's letter behind with a note telling Naomi that she'll be there for her when she finally decides to become the captain of her own ship and destiny.
  • Childhood Friends: With Naomi.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: She resembles Auli'i.
  • Not Quite the Right Thing: She urges Naomi to pursue her childhood dream of traveling the world by ship, something that would have been more sympathetic if Team Ash wasn't a dangerous threat to Avalor at the time.

    Yacalli

Yacalli

Voiced by: Jason LaShea

A monster dedicated to protecting a particular habitat in Cordoba.

  • Affably Evil: He politely apologizes for his rampage, and even tries not to harm anyone.
  • Cultured Badass: He's unfailingly polite, but he's also easily strong enough to completely overpower the military of Cordoba.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: He's only attacking Cordoba because he is honorbound to protect his birds' home, and is very careful not to actually harm anyone, choosing instead to break things. Once Elena and Gabe demonstrate that they can make new homes for the owls, he accepts their solution wholeheartedly.

Outside nations in general

    Cariza
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: The Carizans appear to be the equivalent of African descent, though Cariza's proximity to Avalor and King Joaquin's name would suggest that they're specifically Afro-Latino, which would point them to being the equivalent of the Caribbeans or just the Afro-Latino populace in Latin American in general.

    Cordoba
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Appears to be one for Argentina and Uruguay, as Cordoba's main colors (as seen on King Juan Ramon and his royal guards) are the same colors on Argentina and Uruguay's flags. Additionally, Alonso's clothes appear to be inspired by historical Argentine and Uruguayan fashion.

    Coronado
A kingdom of sirenas and other sea creatures that live off of the coast of Avalor's Nueva Vista.

    Galonia
  • Culture Chop Suey: Truth in Television. Latino Jewish people are more known for their major Sephardic Jewish population, but they also include a population of Ashkenazi Jewish. As such, Ashkenazi aspects such as latkes and calling their grandmother "bubbe" are also used alongside Sephardic aspects like bimuelos and almost everything else.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Not to a specific country, but of the Latino Jewish population (also known as the Ladinos). It should be noted Galonians observe both Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jewish aspects, which is Truth in Television for the real-life Latino Jewish population.
  • Jesus Taboo: Jewish variant. The origins of Hanukkah are given and the historic struggles of the Jewish people are alluded to, but not too detailed to keep it kid-friendly and vaguely religious. At the very least, Ari also describes the origin of the hanukkiah (they only had enough candlelight oil to last one night, but divine intervention allowed it to last eight nights) as a "miracle".
  • Truth in Television: There are Latino Jewish people in real life, something not well known among Westerners. Likewise, it is also true that Latino Jewish people are made up of both Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jewish observers.

    Maarswik
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: King Lars's name and Maarswik's name would suggest that Maarswik is the equivalent of a Germanic-speaking country.

    Napurna
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Napurna seems to be derived from "Annapurna", a Hindu goddess and a massif of the Himalayas in Nepal that is named after the goddess.

    Norberg
  • Ambiguously Christian: Naomi mentions that she, her family, and her parents' co-workers celebrate Christmas.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Although it was popularly theorized by fans to be the equivalent of the Netherlands or Scandinavian countries, Craig Gerber has stated that it's actually supposed to be one for Colonial-era America.

    Paraiso
A neighboring kingdom that had been in a feud with Avalor over chocolate until Princess Elena and Princess Valentina reforged their kingdoms' bond.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Apparently, it might be in the south, if Valentina's title of "the Shining Light of the South" indicates anything.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: From what little we know about Paraiso, it seems to be one for Chile, as Valparaiso is the second most largest city in Chile after its capital city, Santiago.
  • The Ghost: All we get to see of Paraiso is the border it shares with Avalor towards the end of "Royal Rivalry".

    Satu
  • Artistic License – History: Japan doesn't have "kings" like Europe does. They have "emperors" and "shoguns", but this was probably simplified to avoid the implications of an empire in a children's fairytale show and so that children would understand Toshi's position as ruler more easily.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: To Feudal Japan, and of Far East culture in general.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • "Satu" seems to be from sato, meaning "village" or "hometown". It is the most common surname in Japan.
    • In Finnish, "satu" means "fairy tale".
