@ We're No Angels

Unusually for the trope, the main characters reach the border very early on, but it's heavily guarded and something keeps stopping them whenever they think they've found a way to safely cross it.

  • Action Prologue: Within the first six or seven minutes, Bobby shoots his way out of the prison while dragging Ned and Jimmy along for the ride. The rest of the movie is noticeably less action-packed.
  • Must Have Nicotine: Jimmy is very anxious for a cigarette after the escaped convicts reach a town.
  • Right in Front of Me: Storekeeper Harry complains to Ned and Jimmy about how all of the priests in town aren't buying anything from his store, right before another local walks in and tells him that Ned and Jimmy are priests (actually, they're just impersonating priests), at which point Harry frantically apologizes.
  • Sideboob: Ned gets a sideways view of the town's prostitute changing through a window and is pleased by the sight.
  • Single Mom Stripper: Molly works as a prostitute to take care of her deaf daughter (whose father is never mentioned).
  • Wardens Are Evil: The warden is a well-dressed, self-righteous man who whips two prisoners for talking during his speech. Although he does have some Jerkass Has a Point moments about how bad Bobby (who escapes with the two protagonists but travels separately from them) is.

@ Murder at 1600

  • Chekhov's Gunman: The dog that is surprised by the Secret Service agents as they search the White House after the murder is initially just there to provide some levity. Then, the heroes realize that if the dog was there, then his owner, the President, was also present, despite his claims of being at Camp David.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Kyle is a self-centered domestic abuser, but seems to be genuinely unsettled by the murder of his one-night stand.
  • Resign in Protest: General Tully quits out of anger over how the president won't commit to rescuing the servicemen being held hostage in North Korea.
General Tully: Mr. President, I feel duty bound to tell you that your lack of action here borders on the criminal.
  • Really Gets Around: Kyle goes through girlfriends fast, and his goal is to have sex in every room in the White House before his father leaves office.
  • Sleazy Politician: Despite his ultimately sympathetic portrayal, the President does seem willing to write off the hostages in North Korea despite the advice of all of his subordinates, is willing to let his son get away with murder when he thinks the young man is guilty, and engages in some Treachery Cover Up rather than admit the late culprit was one of his advisors.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: The fate of the U.S. troops being held hostage and tortured in North Korea hasn't been resolved at the end of the film.
  • Workaholic: General Tully is introduced sleeping on a couch in the White House, having not had time to go home between briefings.

@ Shin Godzilla

  • The Chains of Commanding: The Prime Minister struggles to make proper decisions on time, but he is leading his country against Godzilla and does make some tough calls. He's very reluctant to evacuate Tokyo while people are in danger, but is pressured to do so.

    Reiko Hanamori
Played by: Kimiko Yo
The Defense Minister.

    Yusuki Satomi (SPOILERS)
Played by: Sai Hiraizumi
The agricultural minster, who is uninvolved in the initial response to Godzilla but becomes the new Prime Minster in the second half of the movie.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: He pays a bit too much attention to his soggy noodles for a man with his responsibilities, but he's capable of decent judgment.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He struggles to make good decisions, but can be persuaded to a good course of action without unnecessary delays.
  • Reluctant Ruler: He is clearly overwhelmed by and nervous about his sudden promotion. Once the crisis is over, he and his cabinet resign to make way for more qualified people.
  • Unexpected Successor: He's an obscure minister of wildlife and fisheries who doesn't even appear prior to the core cabinet being wiped out, and he only becomes the new prime minister due to to party loyalty making the government secretaries rush him into the role.

    Kunio Hazama
Played by: Shinya Tsukamoto
A scientist on Yaguchi's team.
  • Almighty Janitor: He's an associate biology professor at a university, but becomes a key figure in responding to a national crisis.

    Shuichi Izumi
Played by:Satoru Matsuo
A friend and trusted associate of Yaguchi. He serves as an advisor to Satomi.
  • Honest Advisor: He gives advice with both frankness and reason behind his words.
  • Serendipitous Survival: He survives being killed with the senior cabinet due to taking the day off.
@ Snatch.
  • Fan-Preferred Cut Content: Some people who've seen the deleted scenes think that a couple of them let several characters be particularly impressive and deserved to stay in.
    • Brick Top getting a fake diamond from Sol and Vinny and trying to sell it to Avi. Whether they think the scene should have stayed in or not, fans love seeing Brick Top's dragon and Tony face off and Brick Top meeting someone who scares him as much as he scares everyone else. Also, they feel that it gives additional context to why Brick Top let Sol and Vinny go in the first place.
    • Frankie trying to escape from Sol, Vinny, and Tyrone is pretty cool and adds to their hilarious incompetence.

Penny Arcade

  • Sunk Cost Fallacy: Discussed in this comic when Gabe asks Tycho why he finished Cyberpunk 2077 after saying he didn't like it. Tycho describes it like going to a buffet where the food is bad that it makes him puke, but he paid for it. Gabe brings up the trope name, originally thinking it was a dick thing. Tycho believes the fallacy is "you need to maintain harmful behaviors in perpetuity because of a bad decision, and deserved to be punished." Gabe says that's not what that means.

Something I want to add to the Full House page, under Aborted Arc...

  • "Happy New Year" has Joey signed up on a video dating service, where he falls in love with a woman named Christine that shares Joey's interests. Their New Year's Eve date (naturally including a New Year's Kiss) goes off so well that Joey and Christine even decide to get married that night, until they come to their senses and agree to continue dating for a while. But Christine never appears again after this episode. It could be justified, in that things possibly did not work out between Joey and Christine.

Bland-Name Product

In his video for the Spike TV channel show alternate history, Cody notes (and makes fun of) how all the major websites on the Internet in the timeline of the show where the Nazis took over and been in charge of America since the end of World War 2 are somehow the same as ours, except with different names. For example, Google is named Goebbels, Wikipedia in called Nazi Almanac and Facebook is called Fascpage.

For Dexter: New Blood

  • Call-Back: When Harrison confronts his father Dexter, he says the line "Open your eyes and look at what you've done!", which is similar to the line from the original series premiere when Dexter confronts Mike Donovan and says "Open your eyes and look at what you did!"

  • My God, What Have I Done?: Dexter realizes that he crossed the line and broke the code after his son Harrison confronts him and reminds him of the terrible things he had done and many innocent lives lost because of him, so he allows Harrison to kill him.

Thanks. I can't believe I forgot to go back and check the stuff inside the folders again.

@ Daylight's End New page.

Daylight's End is a 2016 Zombie Apocalypse movie starring Johnny Strong as a zombie-killing drifter and Lance Henriksen as the leader of a group of survivors in Dallas, Texas, who the drifter offers to help fight an Elite Zombie (who he has a personal grudge against) as they look or a way out of the city. The title comes from how zombies die in the sunlight, but attack in hordes at night.

Topes in this Movie

  • Action Film, Quiet Drama Scene: Multiple times.
    • The night after Rourke first arrives at the police station, there is a long scene showing several leaders and fighters of the group having nightmares, looking concernedly at their sleeping loved ones, or praying.
    • Before Ethan joins Rourke in the raid on the nest, he has a conversation with his father about a The American Civil War story that Frank told him years ago that he relates to their present situation.
  • Anyone Can Die: Out of the twenty-one named human character, only Rourke, Sam, Vince, Chris's wife and stepson, Harker's daughter, the half-insane Annabelle, and maybe but probably not Bishop and Frank survive to the end.
  • Attempted Rape: Several marauders are trying to rape Sam before Rourke shows up and kills them.
  • Asshole Victim: Seeing someone trapped in a car that is being swarmed by zombies and shooting himself by shaking uncontrollably isn't a pleasant sight. Still, if it had to happen to any of the survivors, then Dugan is by far the least pitiable of the bunch, after constantly insulting Rourke and unsuccessfully trying to convince Vince the pilot to abandon the rest of the survivors—including children— so the two of them can escape alone.
  • Bare Your Midriff: Earnesta wears a tied-off shirt, although her navel is usually covered by the tails of it.
  • Battle Couple: Burton and Earnesta are a married couple and two of the group's best gunfighters. They take on zombies together in several scenes.
  • Black Dude Dies First: The African-American Mike is the first character to die, when marauders gun him down. His brother Chris lasts past the half way point, but also dies.
  • Bolivian Army Ending: During the final battle at the police station, Bishop is last seen cornered in a closet and blazing away at an enormous charging horde, while Frank is tackled by a zombie after running out of bullets. Neither of them is seen being killed, but their odds aren't good and they aren't seen with the other survivors at the end.
  • Crusading Widower: Rourke is out to kill the Alpha to avenge his dead wife.
  • Drunk Driver: When the zombies first appeared, Drew was in jail for driving drunk due to depression over his wife and son leaving him. He seems sober and reliable during the movie itself.
  • Elite Zombie: The Alpha is a ruthlessly intelligent zombie who has organized the local zombies to use tactics to corner and wear down the Dallas survivors, who have been reduced to trying to flee the city. He's also seemingly impervious to bullets (although that turns out to be because he's wearing body armor).
  • Friendly Sniper: Bishop is one of the more friendly and level-headed survivors, and gives the party heading to the Alpha's nest detailed and concerned instructions about the conditions under which he'll be able to provide covering fire during their retreat. Ultimately, though, he's only ever seen using grenades and short range firearms (both of which he's effective with) against the zombies.
  • Hero of Another Story:
    • The local survivors recall how a National Guard Unit tried to provide support and cover for the civilians to evacuate, then holed up in a hotel and were overrun after two days.
    • Vlad was part of a Russian commando team that hijacked an airliner to flee from zombie-infested Russia and crash-landed in Miami. He then fought his way to Dallas, before Chief Hill's group found him wandering drunk and naked through the streets some time before the beginning of the movie. His new companions comment how his story feels like something straight out of a movie.
  • Mother Russia Makes You Strong: Former Russian commando Vlad is good with a gun and is also one of the few people willing and able to take on zombies up close with a knife.
  • Mr. Exposition: Ethan is the on to tell Rourke the history behind their group.
  • Not in Front of the Kid: Right before Zombie Infectee Harker is put down, he asks that his daughter be taken to the next room.
  • Our Zombies Are Different: Zombies turn people into mindless monsters with their bites but (as the title suggests), they burn up in the sun. They can also be killed by shots to the torso.
  • Quick Nip: Ethan is seen taking sips from a flask a few times.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Bishop, Chief Hill (Lance Henriksen)'s most loyal subordinate, is named after the character Henriksen played in Aliens.
    • The zombies burn in the sun like vampires, and two of Hill's men are named Harker and Vlad, like the protagonist of Literature/Dracula and the antagonist's inspiration, Vlad the Impaler.
  • Staking the Loved One: On the first day of the outbreak, Ethan had to put down his infected brother Evan.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Sam wears her engagement ring (her fiancee is dead) on a necklace around her neck.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: On of Rourke's first scenes shows him removing his shirt, exposing his muscular, tattooed chest.
  • You Should Have Died Instead: Chief Hill expresses outrage that Rourke is alive when the others he took with him to attack the Alpha's nest, including Hill's surviving son Ethan, are dead.
@ Daylight's End New page. @ American Horror Story: Asylum
  • He's Just Hiding: Since Teresa isn't shown being finished off by Bloody Face II, some fans hope that Johnny might have fought his murderous impulses for long enough to spare her.
@ American Horror Story: Asylum @ Batman: The Movie
  • Values Resonance:
    • While turning off the camera was Too Dumb to Live under those circumstances, Robin's discomfort about how his surveillance detail is making him watch Bruce and "Miss Kitka" get intimate on a date feels more relatable in the age of digital surveillance and the surrounding controversies.
    • Batman and Robin's concern about marine life (a porpoise that makes an offscreen Heroic Sacrifice for them and even a shark that is rigged with explosives) feels more relevant today than it did before.
@ Can't Hardly Wait
  • Moe The yearbook girl might come across as annoying to her classmates, but her perky attitude and school spirit, and how she wants the yearbook signature of everyone regardless of social status can make her rather endearing.

  • Boom, Headshot!: Benson takes out Robert Martell this way to keep him from setting off a bomb in Washington Square Park.
  • Faking the Dead: Declan had to fake his death when he was pulled out of his undercover assignment.
  • False Flag Operation: North Star's plan after all the small hate crime attacks is to set off bombs in the Islamic Center of NYU, a Jewish student center and the Village temple being all within range of Washington Square Park, turning everyone against one another.
  • Hate Plague: The episode starts with an attack on Jews and Muslims on Christmas Eve. Later on, a mosque gets bombed.
  • Inspirational Martyr: Susan Nolan considers Benson killing Robert Martell a favor since now the cause has a martyr.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: Rollins offering to walk Darko's dog, Danika, works in her favor since he gives her his keys and phone number, allowing her, Fin and Khaldun to enter his apartment.
  • Lazy Alias: Darko Povic's alias when he introduces himself to Declan and Rollins is Don Johnson.
  • Oh, Crap!: While opening up the closet in Darko's apartment looking for Danika's leash, Rollins, Fin and Khaldun find enough explosives to level the block.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Dalen, one of the kids IDed throwing rocks at the synagogue, is the only one to drop his rock and run away when he sees the other two kids are serious about vandalizing it.

For Wrestle Angels:

  • Continuity Nod: In chapter 9 "The Vagrant Traveler" (Melody Kobato's chapter) in the story mode of Wrestle Angels Ai, Zero Kotobuki gets defeated by Melody Kobato because the old acquaintance of Melody's mother orders her to punish Zero. This is because she has a grudge against Zero, who mercilessly beats most wrestlers (including newbies) in an unsanctioned prize fight (it doesn't help that Zero's boxing-based fighting style leans more into mixed martial arts than professional wrestling). In Survivor 2, Zero's title match intro, she speaks this:
Zero Kotobuki: A serious match without grudges... Let's go.

Check these out please! Remember, links and quotations and such come when I actually post, so don't be surprised that they're not there.

Bruised is a Danny Phantom and Justice League crossover by Dizzly Puzzled, primarily focused on the Batman elements. In it, Jack and Maddie are recruited for a project by the G.I.W., sending Danny to Maddie's cousin for the few months it will last. Said cousin happens to be Bruce Wayne.

  • Adaptational Origin Connection: Lazarus Pits are tied to the Ghost Zone somehow.
  • Genius Loci: The city of Gotham turns out to be sapient. Danny and Ember can feel it evaluating them when they arrive at the airport, and Danny can sense it empowering Bruce as Batman.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: The people of Amity tend not to like the Justice League that much, since the League has written off the ghost attacks in the town as hoaxes.
  • In Medias Res: The story begins with Danny awakening in a Lazarus Pit. We then go back and see how he ends up in it.
  • Many Spirits Inside of One: When Danny gets shoved into a Lazarus Pit, the ghosts trapped inside possess him so that he can return them to the Ghost Zone.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Bruce and Maddie are cousins in this universe.

My Hero Academia: Mega Izuku is a My Hero Academia and Mega Man crossover by Seer King. Izuku, as always, wants to become a hero. Unfortunately, his Quirk allows him to turn either hand into an Arm Cannon, and Japan has a firearms aversion. Can he overcome this stigma and still become a hero?

  • Adaptational Badass: Izuku has a Quirk of his own in this universe, so that's a given. Not to mention how All Might is still interested in gifting him One for All.
  • Arm Cannon: Izuku's Quirk allows him to transform either or both of his hands into a gun. Initially, he was stuck with the blocky design reminiscent of Mega Man's, but with training, he developed his Quirk so he now can make a wide array of firearms.
  • Blessed with Suck: While Izuku's Quirk is rather powerful, the fact that it takes the form of a gun in Japan, a country with a strong taboo against firearms use, means that he suffered discrimination for it as a child.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Nezu notes that while Sir Nighteye's heavily focused on the idea of Mirio succeeding Toshinori as the bearer for One For All, he hasn't considered if the blonde would want the Quirk or not. Nezu personally believes that Mirio would refuse the Quirk if offered; given how much time the boy has spent to master his Permeation Quirk, he would likely feel that accepting would render his efforts redundant.
  • Doesn't Like Guns: Like real life, the story's version of Japanese society has an aversion to guns. Unfortunately for Izuku, his Quirk takes the form of transforming either hand into an Arm Cannon, so he's suffered discrimination for it.
  • Variant Power Copying: If Izuku touches someone, his Quirk copies theirs to form the base of a kind of ammunition for his Arm Cannon for five minutes. If he has permission or defeats the original bearer of the Quirk in a fight, he gains unlimited access to the Quirk from then on.

Seer King's Asylum for Plot Bunnies That Won't Stop Bugging Me is, as the title suggests, a collection of ficlets by Seer King. The vast majority of the stories in the collection feature Worm, though many are crossovers in some manner.

  • Adaptational Badass: Many of the collection's ficlets have Taylor gain powers much more offensively oriented than her canon bug-controlling abilities.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Most of the ficlets in the collection revolve around Taylor gaining a different power than she gained in canon.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Some versions of Taylor gain powers like blood or bone manipulation, but they're still good people.
  • Crossover: In some of the collection's ficlets, Taylor either interacts with characters from other settings, gains powers from those settings, or both.
  • Death by Adaptation: Several of the collection's ficlets have Danny killed, in contrast to his survival to the end in canon. His death ensures that we can see Taylor seeking brutal revenge against his killers.
  • The Stations of the Canon: A significant portion of the ficlets in the collection have Taylor defeat Lung and save the Undersiders, just like in canon.

Haunted Ties is a Danny Phantom webcomic by T Kdoodles 77 on Deviantart. It opens with Danny assaulting the G.I.W. base to free some captive ghosts, and during the process, he finds a mysterious baby. Said baby turns out to be his clone/daughter.

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Danny doesn't have any human confidantes in this universe, which causes him to become more and more isolated from the human side of his life.
  • Age Lift: Dani/Ellie is canonically a preteen physically due to Vlad artificially aging her after he created her. The Guys are the ones who make her in this universe, so she's still physically an infant.
  • Alternate Universe: Danny is alone during his accident, deciding to keep his powers a secret even from Sam and Tucker. After a while, he decides to leave Amity entirely.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Danny's exact ethnicity in this story has yet to be confirmed, though there have been hints.
  • For Want Of A Nail: The main alteration to the story begins with the portal accident. In this version of events, Danny gains his powers while he's alone, and none of the human characters learn about them. These changes push him closer to a number of the ghosts, allowing him to befriend them but causing him much more stress on the human side of things in exchange.
  • Race Lift: As a nod to how Phantom's skin is darker than Danny's in the cartoon, Danny's considerably darker-skinned here. A later comic confirms that he and Jazz are mixed-race, with Maddie also being noticeably darker in this universe.

Crimson, Gold, and Silver is a crossover between Exalted and Yu-Gi-Oh 5ds by Elia 41. When Jack steals Yusei's Duel Runner, both Yusei and Rally become Exalted during the boat rescue; Rally transforms into a spider Lunar, and Yusei ascends into a Twilight Caste Solar. Two years later, Yusei's attempt to recover his dragon gets infinitely more complicated when the world turns out to be in danger.

  • After the End: An unspecified event called the Fall destroyed Creation. The modern world is the apparent result of what's left after going through thousands of years of rebuilding.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Despite the rarity of Solars and Lunars, Yusei and Rally become Exalts near-simultaneously. Kerry suspects that a Sidereal is behind it.
  • Fusion Fic: The world of Yu-Gi-Oh 5ds is Creation After the End, and the various Exalted have survived in the shadows while the world rebuilt itself.
  • Mr. Exposition: Kerry, a Beagle Lunar, explains to Yusei and Rally what they have become.
  • Training the Gift of Magic: Because of how powerful the Exalted can become, Exalt elders have the duty to guide novices.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Yusei Exalts, while nearly drowning in the process of saving Rally from the sinking boat. Rally Exalts while seemingly watching Yusei drown.

Super Mahou is a completed black-and-white webcomic by Mari. In the comic, a group of five teenage girls with superpowers meet and decide to become magical girls to fight monsters.

  • Contrived Coincidence: Five girls with superhuman powers manage to meet and become a team.
  • Mistaken for Suicidal: Kozue and Miwa first see Ageha when she's standing on the edge of a bridge, and presume that she's going to jump. Her flight power means that she was never in any danger.
  • One Person, One Power: Each of the girls has a single superhuman power.
  • Personality Powers: Each of the girls has a power that seems to correspond to an aspect of their personality.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Ryuko is one of the shorter girls in the group, but she's the one with Super-Strength.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Ageha and Ryuko's dynamic in a nutshell. They go from arguing to friendly at the drop of a hat.
