Manhua has a separate over time reading order, first starting out similair to manga, then being more like western stuff
I'm not sure how distinct that makes it tho
Manhwa has an icon and is read like western stuff but does seem to have a more consistent art style according to the page
I'm erring on they're seperate enough but I'm not fully sure
For the moment, I'll say they're separate enough. (Although I usually have a hard time remembering which is which.)
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Manhua are Chinese comics, Manhua are Korean comics.
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectMy point exactly.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Something to consider: Some Korean Webtoons use the /Webcomic namespace while others use the /Manhwa namespace. I'm unsure what shall be done about that.
The Korean comics in the Webcomic/ namespace are Web First, I believe. While the ones Manhwa/ namespace are Comic Book first.
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectYeah, that's beyond the scope of this thread.
And yeah, to merging the two into Comic Book.
Also to be clear in case anybody asks, we're not touching the Anime or Manga namespaces (at least not this time), if mostly because it would be a colossal pain in the ass that would mean rewriting most of the wiki.
Yeah, just merge them, I'd say.
Avatar SourceYeah, Manga is well enough established that it's not worth the trouble (much like why we have distinctions between Anime, western animation and all other animation), whereas Manhua and Manhwa can safely be folded into ComicBook/
Very much in favor of this, and it's not unprecedented either; we've got country-specific genres having indexes under a broader namespace (eg Korean Pop Music, Hanguk Manhwa Aenimeisyeon for South Korea; Japanese Pop Music, Visual Kei for Japan)

1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (all editions) progress: 426/1089 (39.12%)The bigger problem with anime and manga is the recursive adaptations in every direction (and how many of the examples should actually be in literature because the original source was a LN). Just putting them in one folder when you start having multiple nearly-identical continuities really saves a lot of headaches from people adding things to the wrong folder.

Avatar Sourceto merging both Manhua/ and Manhwa/ into ComicBook/
Though for the sake of convenience, and navigation; keep them as indexes.

Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectYeah, keep indexes.
And to the Manhua and Manhwa that were Web First, to merging those into Webcomic/
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectLooking for the origins of Manhua and Manhwa, a discussion started in the Media namespaces -- a battery of questions thread February 12, 2012. The original argument from Heatth for lumping is the overlap in fan perception.
So, I do not believe the difference is just the source country. But the difference is subtle for a casual reader, and even a non-casual manga reader.
Manhua and Manhwa were then added to Namespace by Jicragg in March 2012.
Right now, Anime has 1888 work pages, and Manga has 3069.
Manhua has 53 and Manhwa has 89. Very small for namespaces around twelve years old, if not older. The only other work namespace in English with comparable numbers are Script (47) and Magazine (82) (unless I missed something).
On one hand I don't like using wick count against a namespace since it's just as likely that it's being held back by the knowledge of the troper base rather than the validity of the namespace itself. And it still feels kinda icky to lump these works into a namespace that doesn't suit their language. On the other hand, if we were having this conversation a decade ago, there'd be just as strong an argument for not making Anime/ or Manga/.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI feel like those were already reasonably established namespaces when I signed up, which was ten years ago...
Avatar SourceWell, you know what I mean
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessSomewhat fair point, but I'd rather still just keep it focused on the topic at hand. Still in favor of merging the two into Comic Book/ and Webcomic/.
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectI'm not sure how I was off topic there (I was just giving my own opinion on an argument presented), but alright.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure Pureness@17: This is what happens when a Buffy fan site mutates over ~25 years into a gigantic wiki lol
Just like the other thread, I'll let this thread run for maybe 3-5 days, maybe even a full week to gain some options.
After some time, I'll request a crowner with the options.

Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectIt's already policy for those to go in Webcomic/.
Oh, I see.
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectShouldn't we be trying to get more voices in before we even consider a crowner? It hasn't even been a full page.

Crown Description:
There have been concerns as to whether Manhua/ and Manhwa/ are distinct enough to warrant their own Namespaces or if they should be merged into the Comic Book/ namespace instead.- Vote UP to merge the Manhua/ and Manhwa/ namespaces into the ComicBook/ namespace.
- Vote DOWN to keep Manhua/ and Manhwa/ as namespaces.
